Listen guys I know we all like to think of our favorite queer pairings as married, but in Japan gay marriage is unfortunately illegal, now this isn’t some that has to effect your fanfics, but I would actually like if we as a community acknowledged it more. I just think it’s more impactful if the characters had to struggle with the biases of some of the people around them. It would make the characters situation more relatable, and it would also make for interesting plot for the fic, even if it is just a side thing. For some of the ships it might even make for interesting cultural shock, like with Ranpoe, since America does allow gay marriage in most states, while Japan doesn’t it would probably make for a funny interaction. My point is while homophobia and discrimination is unfortunate, it doesn’t mean we have to ignore it in stories, and pretend that it doesn’t exist at all. Idk man I just want some of my fics to be more interesting and this is one way to do it.

Edit: this is not for those who write stories mainly as escapism. If what you want in the story is to play around without the shit called homophobia, then you do you.

Edit: I wanted to say that, this could also very well be used for crack, considering canon BSD, and not an AU where they aren't all criminals. Just imagine, Dazai in a wedding dress, using a machine gun to take down the government officials who won't let him have his wedding with Chuuya (or whoever you ship him with). It also kinda depends on what year it is in Japan

I see your "Kunikida finds insert ship is a couple" and raise you Kunikida being in a secret relationship that no one (cept Ranpo, Katai and maybe Fukuzawa) know about.

His ideals about his partner are just a list of things he loves about them.

Maybe no one knows because of said partner being part of an enemy organisation. Or because Kunikida just refuses to talk about his relationships at work because it's unprofessional.

Could be both.

Bonus points if Dazai is the last to find out.

it is early on in their partnership and sometimes, dazai will look at kunikida and see chuuya. loyal to a fault, burning with passion, with humanity he himself is not capable of having. its the aftermath of a mission (they're starting to get more in tune, learning to work together, and it's new but still painfully familiar) and when kunikida turns his head just right the sun catches his hair and it glows red and just for a moment, he is 16 again and on a rooftop with chuuya, overlooking yokohama's skyline.

and sometimes kunikida will look at dazai and see katai---far more intelligent than a normal human being, isolated, unused to feeling safe, the brains of the operation. it has been a few years since the azure king incident, a few years since katai left the agency and the dorms and everything behind (katai's ability only works when he feels safe, and kunikida isn't there to protect him anymore, not all the time, not like when they did back when it was just the two of them against the world, together) but kunikida still has a stash of pamphlets on depression and mental illness dating back years, from before the agency, and when dazai spots them he will say nothing but there is something analyzing in his gaze when he looks at kunikida after that, something curious. neither of them acknowledge it.

Ya know what's crazy. Kunikida started out so untruamatized. Like the only truama he has was being an ex-math teacher. And now this poor man. He adopts a kid, the kid sacrifices himself to save kunikida. He starts liking a girl, she tries to kill him, and instead kills his son, then dies. He gets married, a few years later his husband gets shot by a terrorist and kidnapped(no seriously where tf is katai). He adopts a daughter, she almost gets bombed. He gets another husband on accident( they adopted the same child), that husband explodes infront of their daughter and turns into the same terrorist that shot and kidnapped his first husband.

This poor man. Not to mention he loves his detective job. He loves waking up every morning and living his life according to his schedule written down in his book about how to live. And then a bandage wasting mackerel with a book on how to die messes up his day. Every. Single. Day.

My poor kunikida.

Kunikida and Katai knew each other since they were twelve. Katai joined the Agency for Kunikida. He left after the Azure King died and before the Azure Messenger case. He even left the fucking ADA dorms for that crappy dilapidated house. WHAT was it that happened between them for him to leave??????
