I like that the interior design is so similar to Nijo Castle in Kyoto!
Pic by : Exploring Museums in Kyoto
I visited Nijo Castle last year. So imagine my surprise when I notice the uncanny resemblance of the wall art while watching Shogun! The production team are really paying attention to detail for this show!
There are many rooms in Nijo Castle, each room with a different theme. For example, the room where Lord Toragana is in have tigers on the wall art which are meant to intimidate the guest.
Usually the Daimyo will grant audience to the visitor in a tiger themed room for a guest that he sees as a threat. In this case, Lord Ishido purposely put Lord Toranaga in this room to make his point.
If you ever go Kyoto, I highly recommend visiting Nijo Castle and get a feel of what it's like to walk around the castle ground. And don't forget to eat the Gold Leaf Matcha Ice Cream while you're there!
