Buddy Daddies Vol 3

Alright! I’m wide awake and have Buddy Daddies vol 3~ forgive my blankets in my pictures… I am not bothered to get out of bed…

Let’s begin!

The package arrived in shiny plastic - I noticed it was immediately lighter than the first two which had me worried lol. Nothing to worry — the bonuses this time were just very light/ small.

The box cover~ as I predicted in my last post, this one features Rei and Miri together with Kazuki alone. I was also correct about it being blue. I wanted a rainbow but hey, sticking thematically to colours works too!

We’ve all already seen Vol 4’s colour scheme so I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that maybe we’ll get variations of red/ pink and blue.

Now inside! Disclaimer: this volume comes with a serial code for a digital copy of the entire series (Yay!) so for this reason, a couple of papers (with the serial code) are missing. Edit: Turns out I cannot read as well as I thought I could without glasses - the code is actually for an hour special with Rei and Kazuki's voice actors. I can't share recordings or anything, but they play mini games. (Who can thread a needle the fastest, quizzes on small details in the anime [they had to remember what pattern was on Kazuki's underwear lol], folding socks fastest, a cook off where they make french toast and more!)

The DVD case! The only complaint I have about these cases is the fact that they don’t click shut — they’re cardboard, similar to the ED song album. My only fear is that stuff falls out as I put it away, but it’s a small fear and not really a big deal.

We have shopping with Kyu-Chan! And of course Rei and Miri on the DVD

Disc on the left is episodes 5 and 6…. And disc on the right is the Drama CD Vol 2!

(I’m not planning to immediately translate it as I’d like a break after I finish drama Vol 1, but if no one else does it, again, I’ll take a crack at it lol)

The booklet! Same stuff as before is in it: image references of scenes in the episodes (the daycare especially). And a new art! You may have seen the left side all over Twitter — well, the right side is here too! Since it’s for the drama, and the drama preview is about Kyu-Chan’s stalker… I’m guessing that might be her?

The drawing image is of all the children’s parents — with of course oil baron Rei and comedian Kazuki.

The caption in the bottom says:

Aaannnddd that’s a wrap! I’ll see y’all next time for Vol 4… (but I suspect you’ll be seeing me much sooner for the Drama Vol 1 translation)

WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE KYU-CHAN (from Buddy Daddies) IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED CHARACTER. Like, sure people talk about him, but only because he's one of like the only 5 or 6 relevant characters. He helped Kazuki and Rei so much and did even more to try to keep Miri safe. I'm pretty sure Kazuki went to the cafe to just talk to him and feel like a human after how his super chaotic and dehumanising life treated him (while still having to look after Rei) and he was the only one who truly knew about the weight Rei carried on his shoulders. I just don't think people appreciate him enough, that's all.

I can’t help but notice that none of these have Miri’s mother in them... maybe it’s because they didn’t want to spoil ep. 10, but probably it’s because she dies and these four live happily ever after ♡♡♡

The real Buddy Daddies crackship is Kyu and Anna.

Kyu picked Miri up after school while Kazurei are working, thought the teacher was cute. Anna was charmed by Miri's handsome uncle.

Kyu meanwhile is curious about her and does some background checks. He starts running into her in places near her home and such.

Kazuki and Rei have to tell him that it's okay to have a crush on her, but it's not okay to stalk her! (he objects that he was merely creating coincidences to talk to her)

Next time they see each other, Anna asks him out. And she starts visiting him when she has time off, so she can have drinks with him. I think miss Anna deserves a handsome and charming bf.

When Kyu leaves the organization, he waits a couple weeks before reconnecting with Anna. She never finds out unless he chooses to tell her

why are ppl villainizing kyu-chan!!

he did the best possible thing. literally everyone that matters was in danger; kazuki, rei and miri were in danger and even kyu-chan himself was in danger. if he refused to comply and give the information he’d be a traitor and we saw what happened to traitors. if he would give the information he would betray kazuki and rei and also put them in danger. 

he found a third way, one that involved keeping everyone safe. he was right when he said the family they created was an illusion. in the end rei’s past would have caught up with him or another tragedy could befall them again like what happened to kazuki before. there is no place for a family in their line of work and kyu-chan told them that numerous times. 

next episode we’ll see their real plan, maybe the writers tricked us or maybe they really decided to leave miri for her safety. both of these options are plausible, although i think an episode where we see their lives turn upside down again (but this time in a different way) because of miri will be really interesting to see. although sad :( 

anyway kyu-chan really did the best he could and kazuki and rei both know that. in the end miri matters most to them and they can’t afford to be selfish and keep her around just because they want to.

And the beloved Kyu? We want to know more about what happened to him, is he still with Yadorigi ☕ working for the organization? It would also be nice to have an OVA showing the past of how KazuRei met him, so many things can still be shown
