I need to be studied by scientists please.
I want them to scan my brain and look at the images and show me pictures of my brain and I want to see my brain and I want the smart people to see my brain and study it and say “Wow you have such an interesting brain! We must study you!” And then I say “Yay! Please study me please please!” Because I want to feel special and also because I want to know everything that’s wrong with me.
So then I live my life in a white room. A white room. You know- the white room? You know! The light. The ever expanding. Endless endless. I get lost in my enclosure. But then they open the door again.
The let me out and run some tests.
I color in some shapes. I tell them that circles are red and squares are blue. Triangles are yellow, but everyone knows that already. I laugh, but they don’t laugh with me. I stop. I look away, ashamed. I cry. They write things in their tiny notepads. I apologize, but they reassure me, “You’re doing fine.” I stop crying.
Then they have me solve a maze. First they gave me a paper. “It’s blank,” I said.
“Flip it over.”
“Oh..” a maze. A maze! Oh I love puzzles. I go through paths in my head, eliminating the easy dead ends. I look at the start and finish points and solve from both ends, joining the two lines in the middle. After I’m finished I draw little hearts in the white space of the worksheet. I like the pen. I mean- Of course I would. I chose this pen. I did. They laid out a whole row full of pens.
Standard pens- red, blue, black.
Colorful pens- pink, purple, blue.
Some are hard. Plasticky. A few rough, a few smooth and shiny. Some have a more silicone texture, kinda rubbery.
I alternate pens a lot. I have certain phases of pen if that makes any sense at all. I’m quite fond of certain textures and that fondness ebbs and flows constantly. Right now though, I use a black pen. A black ink pen I should say- the pen itself is a kind of dark red. Hmm, yes, this one- yes. This one is nice right now.
I never pick the pencil.
At some point after I finish the maze they interrupt me while I’m drawing on the page. “Yes, yes, well done. You solved it, good job. You are very smart.”
I smile.
I am smart.
“The next test is ready, come with me.” So I follow them to the big room. The one where the more physical tests are held. The room is set up as a maze. They don’t tell me what to do, but I do it anyways. I struggle with dead ends, but I brute force my way through. Just stick to the right. Just stick to the right. Eventually I reach the end. They applaud. I soak in the attention. I get cubes of food as a treat. Why do they bother to cut them into perfect cubes, I wonder… It is good though. Good size. Predictable. Hard edges. Good.
Later they take more pictures of my brain. They study them again. “What’s wrong with me?”
“What?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
“There’s nothing wrong per say- you’re just-“
“Why am I built wrong?”
“There is no wrong way. Just a standard and an alternate approach.”
“But I feel wrong.. I know I’m different- I don’t feel bad about being different necessarily. I’ve always known I was weird- ever since I was a little kid- but I never really felt directly ashamed of it. But.. I’m different BECAUSE I feel bad. Normal people don’t feel bad. Not the way I do.”
“We know.. that’s why we’re trying to fix things.”
I speak up again, “Will I ever feel normal?”
They don’t answer.

The more I look and analyse Burned Bridges the more I realise it’s like. A really fascinating car crash. A flaming disaster. Y’know. But you also can’t look away from it cause there’s so much you can unpack from it and it makes it so so fascinating.
The two are similar in a way where they’re both very resilient to change. Y’know. Cold barely changes at all in all of the routes while Smitten is usually blind in his own beliefs, and is steadfast in his loyalty towards the Princess. Ideally they would be paired up with another character who is less resilient to change that would make the dynamic a bit more balanced, y’know. Like Cold with Contrarian and Stubborn with Smitten or something.
Not saying that they can’t change at all, just saying that they are like. Really really resistant towards it. They would need like a gigantic push for them to get out of their comfort zone. Which is why I think they should have like. A couple of mental breakdowns. As a treat :)) (joking joking)
(Edited to have this cause I have a stupid idea. Ignore this)

From the Crisis Core Ultimania (shhh, don’t tell anyone I have these scans)
Tumblr media
Bro, nobody told me this Ultimania confirmed exactly what people always “assumed” in this fandom. Seph DID grow up in the Science Department. It’s all he remembers, hence the “no home” line. FS isn’t even adding anything new. This info has been sitting here since 2007. He wouldn’t call Midgar his home like one of the executives living in the Shinra suites might.

Portal Timeline Including Fan Content (accurate to the best of my ability)
1944 Cave Johnson buys a salt mine and starts Aperture Science Innovators
1950’s Aperture’s heyday! Astronauts, war heroes and Olympians come to Aperture to help advance science
1952 Testing on Repulsion Gel begins
Portal Stories: Mel; Mel arrives at Aperture and goes into long term relaxation
1953 The first quantum tunnelling portal technology is created
1968 Aperture is investigated by the US Senate over missing astronauts.
1971 Testing begins on Propulsion Gel
Aperture now promises to give $60 to anyone desperate enough to volunteer for testing
1981 Cave Johnson buys moonrock, finds it makes a good portal surface and turns it into Conversion Gel. He also finds that he’s allergic to moon rock and develops cancer (Fun fact! Moon dust does give people allergic like reactions. We don’t know how toxic it is)
1982 Cave starts looking for a way to live forever through technology. He says that if he dies before it’s finished, his assistant Caroline is to be put in charge of Aperture whether she wants to or not. If they need to, he tells them to put her in his machine – once it’s finished – and make her immortal.
Aperture starts to have AI staff.
The human staff are now forced to be test subjects.
Portal: Revolution; One of the scientists working on brain mapping technology is Emilia Conly.
1986 Aperture finds out Black Mesa is working on portal technology. In response, Aperture starts properly working on developing GLaDOS
1987 Cave dies
Late 1980’s or early 1990’s Aperture Desk Job; A personality core called Grady and a human Aperture employee test toilets. They make toilet turrets and meet a version of Cave who survived death by becoming a giant robot head.
Robot-head-Cave begs for death but can’t be killed. He falls into the bowels of Aperture where he will live forever. Grady and the human Aperture employee go into witness protection.
1990’s Caroline is forced into having her mind uploaded into GLaDOS
GLaDOS tries to kill everyone
The scientists attach personality cores on her, to try and control her
Extrusion tunnels are invented
2000’s GLaDOS kills almost all the scientists and begins perpetual testing
Portal Reloaded; An AI learns that GLaDOS will be defeated at some point in the future. They wake test subject 4509 and gets her to test with the triple portal gun, in the hope that she’ll be able to change the future
GLaDOS makes the Lazer Redirection Cubes
Lab Rat; Doug Rattmann puts Chell at the top of the testing list
Portal 1; you know how it goes
Between Portal and Portal 2
With no humans or central core to tell them what to do, some of the AIs start to do their own thing
Aperture starts to fall apart
Portal Reloaded; Test subject 4509 and the time aware AI appear, solve tests and go back in time.
Test subject 4509 escapes and probably dies almost immediately
Betty Help; Betty wants to help everyone
Portal: Revolution; Aperture continues to decay. A cleaning core called Stirling decided to reactive GLaDOS by getting a test subject to use the Spire. The Spire doesn’t work as intended, things get teleported about and the test subject ends up deep underground.
Emilia Conly has a copy of her memory and personality uploaded into a core. Emilia and the test subject stop Stirling and they end up on the moon.
The Underground; Due to the shenanigans in Portal Revolution, another one of Cave’s try-to-cheat-death machines is activated. A version of Cave finds himself in the Mainframe.
The Mainframe instructs some Aperture AIs to set up a sifting system for cores. Cores the Mainframe likes get added to the Mainframe. Cores he doesn’t like get turned into Party Escort Robots.
Portal Stories: Mel; Virgil falls into old Aperture. He wakes up Mel and gets her to help him get back up. The two inadvertently triggering AEGIS. AEGIS sees them as a threat and try to kill them.
AEGIS shakes Aperture while trying to kill Virgil and Mel. This scares Wheatley who starts waking test subjects and spending them to find the portal gun. He wakes six test subjects (Doug Rattmann is possibly one of them) and assumes they die when he can no longer see them.
Mel beats AEGIS and Virgil helps her escapes to freedom. As AEGIS shuts down, it wakes Chell.
Wheatley knocks on Chell’s door
Portal 2! If you’ve read this far, you know the plot of Portal 2 and you don’t need me to summaries it
Portal 2 Co-op
Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative; Nigel – a personality core designed by GLaDOS – gets a test subject to test with a Paint Gun. The Paint Gun shoots repulsion and propulsion gel. The test subject tests and does maintenance by deactivating the Aperture Laboratories Stability Stable Energy Reactor (ALSSER).
Meet the Cores; various Aperture cores are doing their own thing around the facility. Aperture seem to be falling apart again
Edit: Since the multiverse is a thing in Portal canon, anything that doesn’t fit properly can be treated as if it happens in another universe. VALVe has said that Aperture Desk Job can be treated like an AU but might also become fully canon at some point.
There’s a good chance that The Underground is set after Portal 2 rather than between the main games. This means that GLaDOS and the Mainframe could conceivably have a showdown at some point which would be fun to see (I might write a fanfic about this at some point).

It’s fun that the only man I’m into from portal it’s literally the only one who is barely mentioned in the game, is used in the ARG and the ONLY moment he totally appears is in a comic
I we need more Rattmann appreciation

Going straight from FF7Remake to Crisis Core with no context is so jarring. What do you mean, Sephiroth is smiling genuinely and having fun? That is not the same man as the one in Remake. What happened to him??

Do you think the Rats all have the same biological mother? Or do you think Douglas just stole three kids in a cardboard box one day?
lol
i haven't thought of a mother too much. i don't know if in my canon dougie just did weird mad scientist stuff to grow them without eggs, used a donor, or something else- but yes, they're all biologically related in any form of the word, same father and same means to be grown and such, however that happened lmao

Bloody Hearts Bingo Day 21
Prompt: Awesome, Romance | Watching their love interest turn into a creature of the night and still being attracted to them
It seemed that every day they fought, Ichigo learned new depths the Shinigami were willing to sink to or new levels of blindness that the half-decent Gotei officers could pretend to. The bargain for time had been accepted, but these days he and his friends were sent out more and more on their own, with less and less supplies. Part of it, he knew, was the limits on both personell and avaliable supplies in general- the whole Gotei was on a bit of rationing, and there always seemed to be a need for more people everywhere, especially with steadily mounting casualty counts and injured who needed time to recover. The other part, of course, was the combined facts that Central 46 did not want to depend on ryoka but could not order them killed outright and the fact that few people wanted to fight alongside them anymore.
Ichigo was well aware that the changes Urahara had made stood out in combat- he'd made sure they could live well, but he was making them into beings who could survive, and in their world that meant being able to fight well. He understood that people feared differences, and seeing what seemed to be teenagers turn into 'monsters' and rip into walls of enemies was a shock at the best of times.
But he couldn't see why everybody was so upset. He thought his friends (girlfriend! boyfriends! He still couldn't believe it some days) looked amazing, coming ever-more into themselves with every change that slid forwards. Yes, they were monstrous, but there was beauty in that, beauty that it seemed none of the Shinigami could see.
Chad was the most blatant- one arm of crystal, the other of bone, always impossible to miss. He stayed wherever the fighting was thickest, breaking up attempted formations and pummeling any who dared step close to whatever he happened to be protecting at the moment. The safest place to be for a breather was right behind Chad, because nothing ever got past his shields. He was the immovable rock in the river, the mountain that kept rain away from a desert, the great canyon that ensured none could cross.
Orihime, in his eyes, was the most beautiful. The others had their grace, their strenght, but in pure visual appeal, Orihime would win. Her scales shone in the moonlight, gleaming blue and orange as she kept her fairies moving- Tsubaki flying forwards like fire out of the dragons of old, the other fairies flitting in and out of formations faster than he could keep track of in combat, her indomitable will driving back the natural order of things as she imposed her reality on the crumbling structure of the old. The front lines were defined by Orihime, all things orbiting around her, and in the depths of things, when horns twisted up out of her hair and power glassed the sand around them, Ichigo couldn't fathom not seeing her as beautiful.
Uryuu was the most subtle of them all, though that said little when considering the sheer explosive power the others brought to bear. He was hardly weak, but it was true that his techniques demonstrated the kind of precision that still left Ichigo's knees weak if he thought on it for too long. It showed in his form, too- stretched long and thin, spindly and draped in threads of shadow and light, just human-looking enough to set off every threat response. It had scared off even the quintet of Third Seats when they'd run into him in a dim room, but Ichigo loved the blatant predatory hints even as Uryuu laid more needles through the space around their enemies, laying traps to send them to their doom.
Ichigo was well aware of his own changes. He and his Zangetsu slid closer and closer every day they fought, blending their edges together. Few remembered that Quincy preyed on Hollows just as much as Hollows preyed on Quincy, though the veneer of civility did much to hide the viciousness. And Vasto Lorde were above even predators, deigning not to fight instead of remaining out of fights in an intricate calculation of energy expenditure versus hunger. He was both, balanced by the flexible straighforwardness of the Shinigami, violence in every cell of his body honed to a killing edge by Urahara's clever hands.
For now, Ichigo would love his partners and fight in the war. The Shinigami would learn to fear them sooner or later. All the rest wasn't his concern.
