I am so proud of myself. I was suffering such ill effects from last night’s adventures that I slept perfectly through the hour when the cock thrice cockles, that in which I was supposed to be at the studio mixing away with Inkydust. How’s that for responsible.

Since I’m home in pajamas instead of working, I may illustrate the cause of my inebriation. We were gearing up to go dancing at Chicago’s premiere goth hangout, NEO, last night, so of course I spent yesterday afternoon sewing an entirely new ensemble in pure white. Isn’t that the ultimate gothic rebellion? I say so.

It was a large party as usual because we had a plan, which I’ll explain momentarily. But first, GK, who had arranged the dinner reservations, had told us we were going to a little Italian whole in the wall, essentially making it out as though we were dining at a hot dog stand, which we were all perfectly fine with, especially because I can eat hotdog buns all night if you’ll let me. Of course, it was all an utter sham because it ended up being about as upscale an establishment as they let girls like me into, so we ended up having the most delightful dinner of endless red wine and pasta. Mine was spinach, in case you’re curious. Girl’s gotta get her vitamins, yo!

Funny how I scarcely remember drinking and yet my camera proves otherwise…

I just want you to look, really look, and note how positively demure Anna and I appear. Remember this so that you can contrast it with what is to come:

See, it’s already going in the wrong direction. A couple of glasses later and we’re already eating our spoons. I mean, why? Why?

Now we’re at the club, where a pirate lets us in with surprisingly little ceremony for a pirate. My lady leads me to the dance floor, and now you can see my new “heart on ass” bloomers. That’s true emotion, baby. You know a girl means it when she wears her heart on her ass.

Things progress naturally. I’m not sure what kind of martini it was, but it was working. The best part about club pics is looking at the people in the background and asking yourself “what the fuck?” Note the chick in the back who seems to be lifting weights:

Then Inkydust himself, lord of MVS, shows up and the plan begins. You remember the plan, right? Trick question, tarts, haven’t told you yet. Here’s a classic portrait of me with the ‘dust:

The plan. The plan is to get Mr.DJ to play secret track, yep, one of the new badass musical gems from the nearing completion “Opheliac.” I crawl up to talk to DJ and hand him the CD containing “I Want My Innocence Back,” and “Misery Loves Company.” I told DJ that if he played the first song and didn’t like it, then he could kick me out of the club, but if he thought it passable, then he had to play to second one sometime later. DJ, who turned out to be called Ryan Bedlam was a fucking sweetheart and played “Innocence,” and the guards with the handcuffs and straight jacket were nowhere to be found. It was a glorious moment…the pure evil that is “Innocence” permeated the night and made us all want to commit murder. Better still, people actually danced.

Then, glory be to god in the highest, my cellist Lady Sarah shows up. Lady S lives by the rule that you ought not to wear feathers if you can’t bring enough for the whole class, and so I was soon feathered (but not tarred) as well. Joy was ours!

We believe that the band that dances together plays together. Please note guy on the left who looks like he’s about to take somebody out West Side Story style. Sharks! Also note how long, weird, spindly and positively inhuman my outstretched hand looks. I do have long spindly hands, but that’s just freaky:

If you can figure out what’s going on her, you get a cookie. I can’t.

So now that Lady S is with me, I think it’s time we go back to our perch by Sir Ryan. Is this not the hottest band pic ever? Go on, go on and tell me it’s not. Besides being a brilliant cellist, Lady S would have gotten the job simply because she knows how to pose.

But what? Ah yes, the first bouncy bass lead strains from"Misery"…it’s funny how it takes you a minute to recognize your own song when it’s played in a completely new context…we got hot and sweaty to that, all traces of demurity lost forever. My night was made, thank you Sir Ryan from the bottom of my ass-heart, you get record credit and endless love for being the first to spin the new tracks.

Club’s almost closing. Why do all my nights end like this:

It actually makes me insanely sad that all the crumpets have distanced themselves from emilie. They made the asylum experience what it was, and it will never be the same without them. The shows with just Moth and Veronica were seriously depressing. Even the crowd seemed deflated.

My favorite K-Drama Couples 2023- Spring 2024

NOTE: I tried to include 2022 but my list got too long :)

Moving (Bong-Seok & Hee-Soo, Joo-Won & Hye-Won & Doo-Shik & Mi-Hyun): It's very obvious by this list how much I love this drama and how many blorbo-from-my-shows it created for me. And I know I'm only reviewing couples, but I was blown away by this drama. I don't even LIKE superhero shows, but I made an exception for this one and I'm so glad I did. If you like character development and plays on good vs. evil, I highly rec this! Bong-Seok and Hee-Soo are one of my favorite couples EVER and I loved the softness and epic romance of Joo-Won & Hye-Won. (And we all know that scene at the rainy window with Bong-Seok and Hee-Soo). These couples are really EVERYTHING.

Tale of the Nine Tailed: 1938 (Lee-rang & Yeo-Hee): This is the only time I've ever watched a season two and liked it better than season one. It's probably because it featured my favorite tragic half fox Lee Rang and gave him a love line with a mermaid. The two are SO sweet together---SOB!

Tell me That You Love Me (Mo-Eun & Jin-Woo): Wow. Maybe one of the softest couples I've ever seen in existence. Just watching them together was like a warm blanket in front of a cozy fireplace. I didn't like the ending choice which is a shame, but the drama was super well done and I still think people should watch it. There is also a very cute high school couple too!

The Eighth Sense (Jae-Won & Ji Hyun): not to be dramatic (just kidding!) this is the best bl kdrama I've ever seen. Literally this is it! I don't even want to tell you about the couple because I want you to just watch it! I'm dying for the writer to make another one because we need more queer media like this one!

Crash Course In Romance (Haeng-Seon & Chi-Yeol): Give me a noona romance featuring a man who has not felt warmth in 1000 years (ok not literally but this dude needs to have a warm meal made by an amazing lady!) This drama fell apart at the end (this seems to be a theme this year) but the couple makes it worth watching.

King The Land (Gu-Won & Sa-Rang): If you're looking for a low stakes, totally fluffy, rom com with TONS of chemistry (featuring MY BIAS!), King the Land is for you. Amazing skinship, kisses and just like a really fun duo to watch. Plot? Not so much but there are a billion good moments-- just look at the tags: They are full of cuteness.

Love After Divorce Season 4 (Benita & Jerome): Listen, I know I'm cheating by putting a reality tv show on this list but if you're in the mood for one, I highly recommend this season (it's on Netflix). Benita and Jerome will steal your heart and they are still together! I'm rooting for them. <3

See you in my 19th Life (Ji-Eum & Seo-Ha, Da-Hoon & Cho-Won): My bias Shin Hye Sun kills it in this drama featuring past life romance. Honestly it's not fair because this drama is totally my vibe so I'm obviously going to love the mains. But when a drama gives you more than one love line and they are both interesting and lovely?? Chef's Kiss!

Dr. Slump (Jeong-Woo & Ha-Neul): This drama TOTALLY fell apart at the end and left us all very disappointed, but that's not because our leads weren't a perfect couple! They bonded over mental illness and even took their meds together. Communication: check. Comfort/Healing: check. Chemistry: check!

The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (Yun-Woo & Tae-Ha). You probably don't know this but I've been following Bae In Hyuk's career since we was in silly little web dramas. Seeing him as a lead is really wild! To be fair, he's not nearly the actor that Lee Se Young is, but do we care about that when there's a time slip romance drama featuring a historical lady who's been thrown into the future and has to fake marry someone who looks just like her de*d husband for reasons??

The crime scene investigation scene reached there with Hoseok as people started to crowd the place I was talking to the cat-looking guy Min Yoongi "Sir did you spot someone suspicious?" I asked him and took out my small notebook and a pen "I didn't and I was inside my house with my friends" he said nonchalantly "What are their names, sir?" I asked, "Why do you want to know?" I gave him the 'really ni**a' look and he said "Whatever their name is Park Seon-jin and joo hee sung" he said "Okay thank you you may go now" I closed my notebook and said "If you see something suspicious please inform on this number" I gave him a card "yeah yeah whatever" he walked away with his hands on his pocket and I scoffed "what are rude guy" I mumbled then I walked over to Hoesok "take the blood sample and run some DNA test on them and also this mask" I gave him the mask "this is one creepy looking mask" he said "I know right" then my phone started to ring I took out the phone from my pocket and looked at the caller ID it was my mom, I picked it "is everything okay?" I asked her "Young lady why aren't you at the house right now?" she asked angrily, I rolled her eyes at her nosiness "I am at a crime scene Mom for goodness sake and I'm literally 26 years old, stop babying me" I said getting a little angry "I don't care wherever you are I want you home this instant" she shouted "It isn't safe for a woman to be out so late, especially when you wear that kind of clo-" I cut her off "there is nothing wrong with my cloths, and I'm a fucking detective and goddamn adult. stop being so fucking nosy Mom, and I can protect myself" I snapped at her and cut her phone, I went back to the crime scene and so everybody was almost done. I sighed as I sat inside the car with Hoseok and rubbed the temple of my nose as we drove away.

On our way, my phone started to ring again and this time it was an unknown number, I picked it up "Hello?" I asked "Hello there y/n" I immediately nudged Hoseok Hyung and put the phone on speaker "Who is this?" I said "That's for you to figure out..." he said creepily "Who the fuck is this?" I said angrily "You shouldn't have talked to your mother like that detective.....what if you never see her again" My eyes widen as I shouted "IF YOU LAY A FUCKING FINGER TIP ON HER I'LL KILL YOU" Hoseok hyung turned the car around and started to drive to my house "oh please like you can ever catch me" his voice darkened as I heard some giggles in the background "I swear if this is a joke-" "you would find my location and arrest me and all that shit," he said nonchalantly and cut the phone "shit!" I grumbled as we reach my parent's house I got out of the car and ran to the front door I banged on the door violently and my mother opens the door "Why are you bangi-" I hugged her and cupped her face "Did that asshole hurt you? are you okay? I looked at her face "Woah woah sweetheart calm down...what happened" I sighed as I hugged my mom again "Nothing Mom.....I'm sorry for talking to you like that...I was stressed out"

i definitely saw rang’s response to yuri’s kiss as kind of heartbreaking disbelief that she would care—that little laugh he gives ugh my heart—rather than disinterest. in my headcanons they did have some fun together 😏

i haven’t seen the woman who still wants to marry because it’s not online anywhere that’s accesible to me (i think, i checked awhile ago) but i want to! beom looks adorable in it. i find it really funny how they gave him all these cutesy romance roles early on when he had that baby face and then it was just. tormented dongsaengs and action sequences for the next five years lmao

i haven’t heard enough of his singing, i mostly just swooned over his song in bof! need to go further down that wormhole, his voice does things to me

Well, I interpreted Rang’s little laugh and that spark in his eyes when Yu-ri kissed him as disbelief and pleasant surprise 😀 I don’t think he took it as more than her elation at having achieved a goal.

The man’s new to someone showing him affection, and he simply smiled, not knowing how else to react, proud of her, interpreting it as her excitement at her achievement - and, it was probably just that on her part. Or, maybe not. Maybe she had feelings for him, and because he never crossed the boundaries of a friend and a mentor, never letting her break down the iron walls he has built around himself, she probably let it go after a while.

Like I said, I would’ve loved to have Rang/Yuri as a couple rather than Yu-ri with Shin-joo. But I’m glad Yeo-hee was able to break down Rang’s walls and get through to him - the man deserves all the love he can get.

As for Beom not doing romantic roles - I think that’s his choice. He has hinted he prefers other genres to romance, and that’s how we’re getting those troubled dongsaengs and tough-guy parts. Padam Padam was quite different though- he was both hot and adorable (how can a man be both ?!!?)

But… he has also said he’s open to romance if the part interests him. So we can only hope. That said, I’ll happily take whatever role he does because he excels in everything. The only show I was disappointed was That winter the wind blows, because he has very little screen time and nothing much to do. And I’m not going to watch Goddess of fire, because though he looks good and has amazing chemistry with the leading lady, he dies pining for her. I don’t like unrequited love.

I don’t know if it’s available in your region or not. Beom is the reason I watched it, but I also liked two of the 3 leading ladies. As for Beom, he’s the ultimate romantic - you should see the way he woos the woman he loves!

Beom’s “I’m going to see you now” in BOF is my favourite k-song. He’s also sung a couple of songs for TWWSWTM, and some Japanese songs which are lovely as well.

My Demon └ Characters

While there are a few inarguably amazing characters, many are teeming with comic relief. Or they are or seem like the bad guys. Relate if you're brave!

There were plenty of memorable characters after all! A couple of which stood out for me as untrustworthy. But I'll just have here the ones who stood out for me as allies.

Do Do-hee. An orphaned person who somehow finds herself in situations that threaten her safety. Romantizices feeling safe and being saved. Need I say more? Still independent enough to not be too desperate, though.

Jeong Gu-won. Overpowered demon that isn’t completely inhumane and actually connects with and develops his humanity relatively fast when he wants to. Still and forever a demon, though!

Joo Cheon-sook. I never tire of granny. Such tough yet gentle love. And so wonderfully and multifacetically human, too. I don’t think she fully realizes how much of a pillar of strength she is to Do Do-hee. Imagine how vigourless she would have been if she hadn’t taken her in to guide and shelter her.

Jin Ga-yeong. My heart goes out to this type of character more often and more intensely than you’d guess. I was worried things would get seriously bad between her and Do Do-hee, but she’s such a kind and emotionally mature person that she was able to de-escalate issues despite her own desires. I hope she finds the love of her life or lives the best life possible.

Park Bok-gyu. This guy is so shamelessly loyal to Jeong Gu-won that it’s adorable. Regardless of how many times he screws up or goofs around. I hold that he’s a nice complement to Jeong Gu-won and humanizes him to some degree  (i.e. makes him less scary).

Homeless Lady (a.k.a. God). I love that cap that says both “Good” and “God”! Cryptic lines and insightful views will never get old.

Unlock my Boss / Unlock the CEO (2022-23)

I enjoyed this, though it's not really that deep. A well written corporate thriller with a bonkers premise — the "missing" CEO isn't just kidnapped, he's also trapped in a phone!

What Worked

What made this work is the characters. The protagonists were flawed and easy to relate to and cheer for. The villains were greedy, unscrupulous and believably bad. And for most of it, you didn't know who to trust, including the voice of the trapped CEO pulling the strings!

What Didn't Work

The plot was very convoluted at times and there were times when the obstacles being thrown at them don't make sense. Also, the way these obstacles got resolved seemed a little too convenient. I also got annoyed with some of the PPE, but that's how this goes sometimes.

The Performances

Chae Jong-hyeop as "the jobseeker" Park In-seong. This guy was fun to watch, and pretty much carried the show. It was great to watch someone who is completely out of their depth, but is fighting to stay positive throughout.

Seo Eun-soo as "the secretary" Jung Se-yeon. The character was meant to be a stoic (who eventually opens up when she meets the right people). Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between a stoic and an actor who is a little too wooden. Overall, I liked the portrayal and enjoyed cheering for Jung Se-yeon, but I didn't miss her much when she was off-screen.

Park Sung-woong as "trapped CEO" Kim Seon-joo. Lots of good voice acting, and you spend so much time thinking about this voice in the phone being the character that when you finally see the actor on screen, it's almost a shock. Overall a good performance.

Kim Sung-oh as "baby loanshark" Ma-pi. I liked what they did with this character overall, and the actor did a good job of playing the heavy.

Ki So-yu as "the adorable daughter" Kim Min-ah. Child actors are usually hit or miss in kdrama-land, but this was a noteworthy performance from someone so young. There were a number of times when she outacted the grownups.

Lee Sang-hee as "evil lady executive" Oh Mi-ran. I think the writers made her plotline and arc a little confusing, but I completely understood the motivations behind all of it, and the actor did a great job making the character believably bad.

Jung Dong-hwan as "evil old man executive" Oh Young-geun. I disliked this guy, even when he ended up being slightly less evil than the other executives. Kind of wished he'd gotten more comeuppance, but I guess that just means the actor did a great job.

The parents. It felt like these characters were off on their own planet at times. I liked the scenes with Park In-seong, but the rest of it was hit or miss for me.

The henchmen. The action scenes were good. The henchies were a little interchangeable at times, but the actors did a good job overall with making them punch-ably bad.

Everyone else. The best friend (Yoon Byung-hee as Jung Hyeon-ho) was fun to watch though like the parents he was kind of on his own planet. The other people were pretty forgettable.

TL; DR:

This was a fun show with good characters and some decent performances. If you're looking for something new, this is definitely worth a look.

I usually watch K-drama series. But I found a Korean drama movie to watch called “Love, Lies” (2016).

WARNING!! DO NOT watch this movie if you don't want to be bummed out!

I know K-drama always have love triangle. But this is the saddest love story I have ever seen in my life! And I have watched a lot of movies over the years.

It takes place during the Japanese occupation of Korea or rather Joseon (1943).

Two girls ~ Jung So-yul (played by Han Hyo-joo), and Seo Yeon-hee (played by Chun Woo-hee) ~ who have beautful voices were raised to be “artists”. (That's what they were told. They both found out later that they were just beautified to be “artful prostitutes” for the Japanese men.)

One young Korean man ~ Kim Yoon-woo (played by Yoo Yeon-seok0 ~ who is a song-writer. But he writes popular songs for the common people ~ “Joseon's Heart”. Not the traditional music (jeongga, or classical Korean songs) the girls have been trained to sing for the upper class Korean society and the Japanese.

He says he is in love with one girl but then he meets her best friend.

I won't tell you how this story unfolds but it was so so so so so so so so so so so so … painful!!

Some reviewers criticized the movie in a bad way. I disagree. I thought the acting was superb and by the end of the movie, my heart was broken. I was totally shattered.

On the plus side:

The scenery, the costumes, especially the traditional Hanbok clothing and the modern westernized clothing that both ladies wore were gorgeous and very stylish. Their hairstyles whether long hair or short hair was beautiful!! Also, I really liked the album covers. Both ladies released an album with them singing and the artwork for both album covers is incredible!

In fact, that's how the movie begins. Some people found an old album and wanted to know the whole story behind it.
