In my early 20s, I worked for FedEx in the call center for a year or so. One particularly slow Saturday, I answered a call from Paul Waldman, the founder of the Living American Masters Photography Project or LAMPP. He captivated me with stories from hanging out with celebrities -- mostly those a bit before my time, and some I only knew by name. I can't remember the stories or the people he mentioned anymore, as that call was 25+ years ago, when Paul was in his early 60s (?), and the stories were from decades prior. I'll never forget that we had such a fascinating conversation though, and that he was kind. It made my tedious job interesting for a day, and I appreciated that more than he'll ever know.

Today, we're connected on LinkedIn, although I doubt he remembers who I am or why we connected. ... You never know when a conversation is going to impact someone, for better or for worse, and certainly not for a lifetime.
