So it was set during Cloud Recesses era and Wangxian had gotten together at some point before the fic, and the fic itself is about wx being caught having sex in the library by SMS, except he's being a gross voyeur and getting off on that without wx's permission.

They catch him in the act and when sms tries to say that they'll end up punished when he says what happened, LWJ went and said something like "Even if I'm punished, you'll be punished worse cuz I'm clan and you're just an outer desciple."

During this, from what I remember reading this Jiang Yanli and the others are planning on reconciling with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wanji asked his brother for encouragement in confessing to Wei Wuxian and permission in marrying him - also asking Lan Xichen for a forehead ribbon. 12. Hello, I am new here! But I have been trying to find this one fic, that I read a while back and am not sure if it was deleted or not. I think it was a time travel fix-it of sorts. All I remember is that WangXian got together either before or during the war with the Wens and after a battle or on their way to a battle, they are passive through a burnt down village where WWX senses or hears the call of a Fierce Corpse and calls to it. It is severely burnt, like chard black, burnt and it is carrying a bundle. It turns out to be LSZ as a baby. WWX realized that the corpse, a'Yuan's birth mother, was so worried for him that even after her horrific death her Fierce Corpse protected her son.

WWX promises her that he and LWJ would raise him and keep him safe, allowing her to pass on. As they leave WWX says that LSZ feels like he is theirs, and LWJ agrees that he is now theirs. I think it was a WIP or that it got completed not long after I read it originally, but for the life of me, I cannot recall the name or anything outside of this scene. I think it wasn't very nice to JWY/JC, but I could be very wrong about this...

While it's true that Jgy/Jgs wasn't involved in the nightless city massacre in mdzs the way they were in cql, I don't think it's right to say that there was zero involvement in their part in the situation. Especially in creating it.

This is somewhat speculative, but I think the text bears this out. When we learn of the events leading to the incident, we get know that in the three days that Wwx was bound by Wq's needles, the sects have gone from a cease fire to participating in a pledge conference to destroy the wen remnants and to oppose the YL. The reason for this is Wen Ning's second rampage. During which, we learn from the cultivators wwx ran into, the biggest damage was to Gusu Lan, as they lost the most desciples (along with Qinghe Nie desciples, I actually don't know if any Lanling Jin desciples died there, rather tellingly Jgs doesn't mention it).

To me, this is deeply suspicious for a few reasons. Why would Wn loose control like that? Especially as his family's life depends on his death and his surrender? Wn's rampage on Qq road was because Wwx lost control of his own cultivation and let the resentful energy overwhelm him and this affected Wn who killed Jzx. But the second time, wwx was far away, and also bound, so it's not very obvious why Wn lost control. It could be an incredible coincidence/bad luck of course but I don't think it is for the following reason. The most losses was for Gusu Lan. We learn from Wn later in the book that Lwj actually spoke up for them (the siblings) when they turned themselves in. Gusu Lan (and the Nie to a certain extent) don't have the same motivation to siege the BM, but they are two of the great sects, and their support would be neccessary. Isn't it interesting then that there is immediately an incident that now makes it clear that Wwx is against their sects and means them harm?

Again, before Wwx learns of the conference, he thinks there is a cease fire between them. He even thinks, in a low moment, that he's glad the wen sibs have given him a way out (and he hates himself immediately for it) and the only reason he learns of the sects gathering is by pure chance. He has no reason to believe that they were going to attack him, so part of his anger is also because they are going back on their word. But to the great sects, wwx was the one who apparently went back on his word. He sent Wn to apparently surrender, but Wn killed their desciples and it seemed like Wwx just sneaked him to destroy the sects. Which comfirms their idea that Wwx is infact against them. What happened at Qq road isn't clear to them, but this incident to them confirms that Wwx is deliberately going against them. Enough that they don't listen to him at all. Again, this could all be incredible coincidence, but I don't think it is.

My brain won't shut up about it so here's my Let Jin Ling inherit Lotus Pier Agenda:

No golden core transfer happens. We'll take Wen Ning's golden core reveal and place it before that mess ever happens. He times it just right, so that Jiang Cheng won't be dying anymore out of his unwillingness to live and before they go to the mountain to perform the operation. He's a sad depressed grape about it but he'll live.

Sunshot Campaign is still won without Wei WuXian's demonic cultivation. Let him invent a bomb talisman or whatever. Either way Meng Yao kills Wen Rouhan and Sunshot Campaign is won. What we need here is for YanLi and Jin Zixuan to be on better terms. (Make it so that their relationship is unlabeled but they are definitely in love.) Anyway, YanLi helps the war effort with her soup, Jiang Cheng still recruits people for Yunmeng (acting as YanLi's speaker more or less. I refuse to leave you a useless grape Jiang Cheng!) And Wei WuXian fights alongside Lan Wangji (develop their romance here too, if you want)

YanLi becomes sect leader (I've read a few no golden core transfer and this usually happens. Lol this is the main thing that made me think of the Jin Ling gets Lotus Pier agenda.) Wei WuXian isn't drinking his life away here since no throwing people to burial mounds happened. YanLi, since she wasn't heir, doesn't really know how do to the sect leader-ing at all. They all don't anyway, but Jiang Cheng at least has some knowledge about it so what happens is YanLi becomes more of a figurehead while Jiang Cheng runs Lotus Pier. YanLi and Wei WuXian figured that it is for the best, even if Jiang Cheng insists on teaching his sister how she refuses. Jiang Cheng needs to do something or else he's just going to be a depressed grape in the corner and both don't like seeing their little brother self deprecate like that. Still, Jiang Cheng can't very much represent Yunmeng Jiang so YanLi does that. We know that she won't easily bow down to others or bite her tongue (lol especially if you insult her siblings, you don't insinuate that Wei WuXian isn't her brother or that Jiang Cheng is useless because he has no core. She will fight you. Have her channel that for all of Yunmeng and you have a very strong willed leader in the face of public.)

The freeing the Wen Remnants happens. (Yes we're still doing that) say that during Sunshot Campaign, yes Wei WuXian never did demonic cultivation but he did expand on his theory. He still takes them to burial mounds (because who's stupid enough to follow them there?) Here's when Wei WuXian actually dabbles with demonic cultivation (cause my friend said he's sexy when doing his necromancy thing and I will respect that). He needs it to protect the Wen Remnants. We also get the whole "Come to Gusu with me." From Lan Wangji.

Jiang Cheng is the one who's stupid enough to follow them to the burial mounds. He's mad about it. It reflects on their sister, of course he's going to be mad about it. They are still idiots and they fight, more of a hissy fight than stabby and break-your-arm fight because Wei WuXian won't hurt his bro like that. The cultivation world saw the advisor/secondhand in command of Yunmeng Jiang leave Burial Mounds all angry and just started the rumor mill that Wei WuXian is kicked out of the sect. Jiang Cheng, of course, regrets his hissy fight with Wei WuXian for three reasons, 1) now the world thinks that they won't support his brother, 2) he overstepped his sister's authority (as much as he runs Lotus Pier, and the desciples and Yanli see him more as their leader, he still puts YanLi's authority over his), 3.) Wei WuXian is the strongest cultivator of Yunmeng Jiang. They are almost defenseless without him. The world praises them for "doing the right thing" though so clearing up the misunderstanding seems a little dangerous, especially with Lotus Pier still weak so they just never commented on it.

YanLi who was pretty chill with her position with her baby brothers' backing is suddenly shown how cutthroat the politics is. She had initially thought that she can one day step down and give the throne to it's rightful owner once the world calms down. She and Jin Zixuan were kinda together, unlabeled relationship and all that and she still wanted that life she was raised for. But with Wei WuXian in burial mounds, Jiang Cheng with no cultivation and how the cultivation world is, her big sister instincts kicks in and decides to fully sacrifice that dream life, telling Jin Zixuan that they should stop, whatever it is they are doing because she is a Sect Leader now and Jin Zixuan is the heir of Lanling Jin.

Jin Zixuan is in love with YanLi. He's also seen how Jin Guangyao is more or less running Lanling Jin at this point. He tells his brother (who at this point is probably planning his murder using Wei WuXian one way or another) that he's planning to secede and marry into the Jiang Sect. Jin Guangyao in his head: I can work with this.

Jin Guangshan dies after Jin Zixuan secedes. (Any father would die of heart attack if their only legitimate son eloped with the woman of his dreams!) Jin Guangyao already has enough backing to take over, Jin Zixuan's support is just bonus. It helps that Gusu Lan also supports him as well as Yunmeng Jiang.

Jin Zixuan marrying into the Jiang brought them a strong cultivator (I think he should be strong anyway), money and a reassurance that Lanling Jin, the sect offended by Wei WuXian the most, won't be waging war against them. (Mo XuanYu is with Jin Zixuan when he left, an attempt by Jin Guangyao to remove yet another rival to the throne from Lanling. It would also be better to kill him away from Lanling if it ever comes down to that.)

With the shit that's happening in Lanling (the heir seceding, the sect leader dying and his illegitimate son inheriting) the world forgot about Wei WuXian's Wen remnants (let's say that it took awhile before Jin Zixuan solidified his resolve to secede just so the attention on Wei WuXian's Wen Remnants would die down first before the new biggest scandal in the cultivation world arises). While the whole world is eating up the happenings in Lanling, Yunmeng Jiang invited Wei WuXian and his Wen remnants into Yunmeng, first making them give up their names to join. Wen Qing and Wen Ning (making him a fierce corpse is gonna make things hard so let's just not) are probably going to be taken in as prisoners of war or something. They can say that the non cultivators among them perished in Burial Mounds. People are free to go to the burial mounds to check if they wanted to. Then again the world will probably only know this in YanLi's wedding... That's attended by all the great sect's leaders so really all the people who has issues with it can do is to gossip.

Jin Ling is Jiang Ling now. Heir of Lotus Pier. He gets Sandu instead of Suihua because Jin Zixuan is very much alive and Jin Ling loves his Jiujiu, he'd rather inherit Sandu than have his own sword. (Jiang Cheng giving him Sandu is his symbolical "I'm happy even without my cultivation now/I'm giving up on the what ifs of my life") He's still very close to his jiujiu because it's his jiujiu who teaches him how to be a good sect leader (no way in hell I'm giving up my Jin Ling and his Jiujiu feels!) The Jiang family is very much complete (and Jiang "I compensate with my lack of cultivation by making strong Cultivators marry into my sect" Cheng and the Lans are still arguing whether it's Wei WuXian who will marry into the Gusu Lan or it's Lan Wangji marrying into the Jiang)

I feel people forget we have canonical examples of people adopted into the family and that going better for the adoptee. People who argue that there's no difference between Wei Wuxian's position in the cultivation world compared to others forget that we have both Wen Yuan and Meng Yao for comparison. You can clearly see how the family treats them affects their standing.

Wei Wuxian was a young master (and yes that's relatively privileged) but he's clearly not considered part of the Jiang family and their equal. And that directly affects how he's treated and what he can get away with. People keep talking about how rude he is but others have been ruder and got away with it. Everyone knows what Madam Yu thinks of him. Everyone also knows what position he holds relative to Jiang Cheng, it's why it's so easy to make allegations about him to Jiang Cheng about insubordination. It's why it was easy for Jin Jixun to openly disparage/yell at him. He may be a desciple but he's got no actual authority or place in the Jiang sect, he's closer in postion to Su She then even someone like Jin Zixun (albiet a much more favored then Su She). It's sort of like the mc of Knives Out.

Compare this to Jin Guangyao, who even with the snub of his name, was still adopted into the family proper. His treatment at the Jins left much to be desired but he's still got all the privileges of rank. He's considered Jin Zixuan's brother and he's in line to inherit. And while the Jins are like that, clearly people from the outside treat him as a part of the Jin. See how Jiang Cheng treats him compared to how others treat Wei Wuxian, despite both having common backgrounds.

Finally we have Lan Shizui. He's adopted into the Lan clan proper, he's given the ribbon of the main family, and the Lans treat him as one of them. He's never ever treated as anything other then as a young master of Lan. He's given all the privileges of his rank. Even when Jc snipes at lan jingyi or Shizui, he's still wary of going over the top and incurring the Lans wrath. This is directly down to how Lans treat Shizui and how rumour proof they are. Note that his circumstances sort of mirror Wei Wuxian's (Lan Wangji just turns up with a child) and yet there's not horrible stuff said about him. People argue that Madam Yu makes sense with her yelling about what Wei Wuxian would have meant to Jiang Cheng's position, but Lan Wangji turns up with a child and his reputation doesn't suffer. And Jin Guangyao is adopted into the clan and no one really thinks he's above Jin Zixuan. It's her own insistence of constantly believing in the rumours and being part of the gossip that probably makes them worse. If she really cared about her son, she should have just laughed. But she doesn't, because she's not doing it out of care or political savvy, she's just doing it because she wants to berate Jiang Fengmian.

Yeah, that’s a good point. JGY isn’t fully respected, there are clearly people who still see him as just the bastard son of a prostitute, but the name “Jin” does buy him a lot of respect. Even before he becomes sect leader (or even the immediate heir) people at least won’t insult him to his face; even when JC is talking about how he’ll never amount to anything, he says it to WWX, not to JGY’s face. And yeah, no one seems to think that JGY outranks JZX despite actually being JGS’s son, because... he doesn’t. That’s not how it works. And LSZ very clearly has the full support of the Lan sect; as you say, we see JC sniping at them (picking a fight with teenagers, that’s real mature) but he doesn’t dare go too far for fear of annoying the Lans. He... might actually be the heir after LWJ, it’s unclear (he’s certainly head disciple and was adopted into the main clan, but we don’t know who adopted him; if it wasn’t one of the Twin Jades he’s likely not near the top of the succession line), but either way he’s clearly well respected and liked within the sect. So like... clearly most of the time there isn’t concern about the succession when someone is adopted into the sect. Also, I seem to recall getting someone telling me once that an adopted child wouldn’t be above a blood child in the line of succession regardless of age, at least not automatically.

Honestly? I wouldn’t be surprised if the only reason there was gossip about WWX being JFM’s bastard was because YZY kept shouting about it. I mean, the one person who really brings up anything related to it is JZX, who is the son of YZY’s best friend. I don’t think JFM taking in his best friends’ orphaned son and giving that son the rank of head disciple when he turned out to be super talented was actually suspicious on its own. I mean, LWJ brings a completely unknown kid back from the Burial Mounds after fighting his sect’s elders to defend WWX and no one says shit about it! But if JFM’s wife is constantly shrieking about WWX being the result of an affair between him and CSSR... Well, that would draw some attention.

if i had to join a sect... i think the structure in living as a lan desciple would probably help keep my life on track? the cloud recesses are beautiful so that’s a major plus. but, i’m also weak to lotus pier. it’s gorgeous and i’d have a bit more freedom, like i could express myself more. in the end i’d have to go with jiang (can dual discipleship exist though? please? 😭)

as for who i’d pull a (literal) life-swap... and i’m not saying i’d love for this to happen, but... what if jiang chen died protecting wei wuxian... instead of yanli...? i’d need to sit on this one for a while to really get a feel for what the repercussions would be, but with how much wwx and jc sacrificed themselves over and over for the other, i see wwx having the same rection as he did to losing yanli. what this would mean for lotus pier, though... hmm. ouch. i’ve hurt myself.

A report came in earlier this week about a sea of black shadows that had covered a small town. The desciple who was managing the reports that morning brought it to the attention of the head desciple, Lan Sizhui, who brought it to the attention of Hunguang Jun, and, coincidentally, the Yiling Patriarch as well, who was sitting across from Hunguang Jun taking their afternoon tea.

“A sea of shadows sounds like resentful energy.” Wei Wuxian said without looking up from his task of pouring a new cup of tea. He filed it up just under the brim and nudged the cup across the table towards where Lan Sizhui still stood.

“Come sit with us A-Yuan,” he winked and made a show of gesturing to all the empty space around the table.

Lan Sizhui dropped his shoulders and bowed to Hunguang Jun and Senior Wei one more time before sitting down to join his dads for tea.

So part two in my re-read of MDZS but now in german:

So when the desciples and Wei Wuxian the disguised Xue Yang help in the Yi city arc...Lan Sizhui wants to help Wei Wuxian in supporting Xue Yang but Wei Wuxian tells him not to. Because they don't know if skin contact could also be infectious.

My question now; is Wei Wuxian immune to corpse poisoning or am I missing something? Because he tells them a lot of times to hold their breaths, to not touch or to stay away from it but he himself doesn't seem to be doing the same? Was he around the corpses for so long that he grew a immunity to it? Because this is not his own body, if it was the case of immunity but than again, his alcohol tolerance seems to have been brought over to Mo Xuanyu's body. Unless the anxious, abused gay was a secret alcoholic...

Oh! And on Twitter someone said that Wei Wuxian is the only one who can see and hear ghost wothout any assistance but the disciples can see A-Qiao and get even spooked by the way she looks and can pivk out details from her. Plus, Wei Wuxian is teaching them how to look for hints/weaknesses in a way that as if they will be seeing ghosts more often. Then again he might be talking about other things as well...

Anyway, that where just thoughts I had since I read the novel for the first time and came back up with this re-read.

Okay, let me scream why I love the Wanxian couple so much.

What people think of them as individuals, is the actual person of the other.

Let me explain!

What people think of Lan Wangji: Hanguang-jun is such a logical person and has his emotions so under control! He is abstinent and he is so patient with people! etc.

What people think of Wei Wuxian: He is so blunt and so shameless! He does what he wants and has such a dirty mind! He is so impulsive! He makes so many jokes! etc.

Meanwhile Lan Wangji: multiple horny thoughts about Wei Wuxian. "Everyday means everyday." Will straight up not talk to someone he doesn't like. Will not even touch them or be near them. But will latch himself onto Wei Wuxian like a puzzle piece. Is genuinely funny and a thicker face than Wei Wuxian. Embarrasing his husband over and over again. Cannot to save his life, not help someone that needs it. Most of his actions being motivated by his emotions. (not to mention his first dream literally being about him acting out his wish to rail young Wei Wuxian into the floor.)

Meanwhile Wei Wuxian: being a logical think person. The only times where he has horny thoughts has is when he is together with Lan Wangji and has learned from his husbands horny thoughts. Sure he reads porn books but he only seems to do that with the other boys around from what I can tell through the story at least...he only flirts with girls to get either informations or to make sure he has food in the city, for the possibility of being in a problem. (not to mention the small amount of money he always kept in his ropes but that is for another rant..T.T) he literally just wants to re-create the happy family like the only memory he has of his parent's. Wei Wuxian is also pretty good in politics and still somehow talk to people he doesn't like just yaknow..not long. (he made himself a cottage core lifestyle with Lan Wangji in his dreams and not even just in his dreams he even thinks of it before they confess to eachother! Someone said that they see Wei Wuxian as demisexual and I am since then also a believer of it.)

And just because I can, thinks they share:

Their morality (no duh), their skilled hands and detection in teaching the young desciples. Their parental instincts immediately activating around said young desciples. Shared humor (try to convince me otherwise. I'll wait.) compatible kinks. Their love for eachother in romantic as much (if not a little more) in sexual. Their none verbal communication. Their genius minds! Their respect for eachother in pretty much everything. How pretty and handsome they are. The care they have for eachother.

Re that cql take on Lan shizui, yeah I am still bothered by that take. Because not only is it a bit of a stretch to connect that one time Lan Yuan comforts Wei Wuxian to his eventual need for speaking for Lan Wangji, it's not even accurate? Because clearly Lan Jingyi also does the same thing. It looks and feels like Lan desciples just taking care of minor annoyances for their respected senoir and not any trauma induced need to comfort/look after grown ups. Not to mention, the one time wwx actually gets angry at A'Yuan he actually removes himself immediately in cql? And Wen Qing is the one who sends A'Yuan to him?

I don't know, people just go poor Jiang Cheng, he's trying so hard with the baby he got left with and excuse all his yelling. But then they don't see how a 20 yr old who didn't sign up for taking care of people and a baby in the BM can maybe have one emotional moment.

Also, I am loving how Wei Wuxian is held to have somehow traumatized Shizui for losing his temper once, but Shizui's going through actual trauma (being kept in a prison camp, having his home be seiged, losing all his memories and his family) is not seen to have affected him in any way. Like if you are going to argue that his past makes him have a tendency to diffuse situations or try to talk angry people down, well I would think keeping your head down in a Jin encampment filled 2with angry Jin soldiers might be a better bet?

It’s like... the Lan juniors are old enough to recognise that the adults are upset and want to comfort them because they care about them? Especially in CQL, where the increased time between WWX’s death and resurrection means they’re in their twenties. I don’t know how to explain this, but a twenty-year-old wanting to comfort and support the people who raised him (one of whom is in his mid-thirties and the other due to death shenanigans is only around 20 himself) is a sign of being a caring person, not a sign of some deeply-held trauma. Also... yeah, as you say all evidence suggests that talking to people for their seniors is... the job of junior disciples. And yeah, when WWX gets mad at A-Yuan he removes himself from that situation so that he doesn’t hurt the kid as soon as he realises what he’s doing. And you are completely right, it’s ridiculous that people coo over JC and handwave every way he hurts JL because “he was left alone holding the baby” when that isn’t even true (I don’t believe for a second that JL spent any real amounts of time in Lotus Pier while his grandparents were alive and even with JGY it’s a 50/50 split and if it’s uneven it’s almost certainly in JGY’s favour) but say that WWX getting mad at A-Yuan one time and immediately taking steps to rectify that situation while twenty years old and slowly losing his mind due to resentful energy AND being attacked by all the sects INCLUDING HIS OWN following his brother’s betrayal is irredeemable and traumatized LSZ, who doesn’t even remember him for most of the story, permanently.

And yeah, if any part of LSZ’s childhood traumatised him it was being locked up in a prison camp at the age of two or three and then having his entire family slaughtered by people he knows will never face justice for it, not by WWX getting mad one time.

God yeah the Su She meta. Where people are like he's someone who took lan secrets and made them open source, taking back from the man. Which, do people even know what open source is? It's making it accessible for/to everyone regardless of what they do, and why they need it. As long as you want it you should be able to get it. Given that, Su She's only teaching the techniques only his deciples (which. Is. The. Exact. Same. Thing. The. Lans. Do.) calling it open source is just ugh. What Su She did is basically sell buggy pirated software for the same price as the original. And he didn't even tell people it was buggy. Oh also, I love how cql people are like omg the lans left outer desciples to die (even tho Lan Qiren specifally tells people to take them to safety) when Su She basically just abandons his own sect in the second siege. It's even worse when book fans try to pretend he's some class hero when he's basically ready to give up Mianmian to save his own neck (when Mianmian is clearly a servant who had no privilege). Or how about he's completely happy to let Wei wuxian take the fall , and is happy to kill him, when Wei Wuxian saved his life twice! Both at great personal risk to himself. The only decent thing I have got from the Su She meta is the implication that Su She and Jiang Cheng are alike... Both pretending to be the victim of circumstances and pretending like people are out to get them/inconvenience them by merely existing.

Also uh... every sect has their own techniques that are only taught to people within the sect? That’s why people join the sects, to learn from them. And there’s no evidence that joining a sect costs anything but time and a willingness to uphold their principles. Also good fucking luck making cultivation techniques available to literally everyone given the massive time and teaching requirements involved plus the need for spiritual energy (which not everyone has). This isn’t a piece of software or a textbook, it’s years of training. You can’t just do it at home! And yeah, SS fully just... deliberately leaves all his disciples to die along with the other sects in the second siege, so... yeah... maybe don’t argue that the Lans are worse about caring for their disciples? SS’s just a prick, guys! It’s not that deep!
