Grammar. This, that, it. [-이/-저/-그]
2023년 5월 22일
안녕하세요!
Following this previous lesson, we will be learning how to say "this/that/it/the". It's really easy!
이 is used when the objet is near you.
저 is used when the objet is far away from both (you and the other person you are talking to).
그 is used when the objet is far away from you but near the other person you are talking to.
What if i don't want to say the name of the objet? Well, in that case, you can use -거 (것) after 이/저/그. As you can imagine, -거 (것) means "item, thing". (This is how i learnt it to be more easy for me, if someone more advance in korean knows a better way to explain the used of -거 (것), please tell us!)
Therefore:
이 means this.
이거 means this thing, this item, this one.
저 means that (over there).
저거 means that thing/item over there.
그 means the, that.
그거 means the thing, the item, that one, it.
Hope its clear for you all! I tried to use very simple ways to get this!
See you soon!
HOMEWORK:
1. How do you say "what is that over there?"? 2. How do you say "this computer"? Computer = 컴퓨터.
Fill the blanks with the Korean word to make the Korean and English sentences have the same meaning.
3. 그거 (___) 예요? - What is it? 4. 저거 뭐(___)? 저거 코피(___)? - What is that? Is that coffee over there?
Translate each word to English.
5. -거 (것) - 6. 이 - 7. 저거 - 8. 그 -
Correct answer under the cut.
저거 뭐예요?
이 컴퓨터.
뭐.
예요 and 예요.
thing, item.
this.
that item over there / that thing over there.
that, the.

"do you by chance speak one of the Romance languages?"
Once again asking Charles to elaborate on which Romance language he speaks because it surely isn't French or Latin and he hates Italians too much for it to be Italian

Tonight's writing problem is that I know/remember just enough German to know when google translate is not doing what I want (using Du in dialogue between family members who would definitely not Sie each other) but not enough to be sure my fixes make any kind of sense xD
I mean, that's what alpha/beta readers are for, but still x)

listen now. i am under no illusions that most pro-scottish independence memes on this hellsite are likely spread without a lot of thought put into it. maybe you hate the idea of monarchic statehood. maybe you think the uk’s right-wing government causing a constitutional crisis over trans folk being able to complete a legal process a little easier is exceptionally funny.
but as someone who’s campaigned for independence for nearly half her life (started at 16 and i’m about to turn 31); it just... it means a lot. even if it’s fleeting, even if its a notional solidarity. living in scotland so often feels like a constant test of your critical thinking skills. scots are taught from an an early age that our language doesn’t exist, that our culture or heritage isn’t as important to learn about as british or global history. we’re taught, in many ways, that we’re just funny sounding english people with a propensity for drinking and ceilidh dancing. we’re constantly manipulated by the mainstream british media which we’re trained to believe is some of the most non-biased in the world (particularly the BBC). we don’t know who we are or where we came from as a nation. and if you’re not paying attention and asking questions, it is so goddamn easy to believe this piss state is better. it’s a lie we’ve been beating into ourselves for hundreds and hundreds of years.
it’s sometimes hard to see outside the bubble and remember that other people looking in might see what so many of us on the inside see. so thank you. even your damn bugs bunny memes have warmed my hardened little heart on this january eve.

Brewed myself a super strong cup of coffee this morning so I can push through and finish translating/editing "All About Mercury." Honestly, I'm pretty proud of my working pace considering I got it on 8/25 and it's a 72 page art book filled with Japanese handwriting of wildly varying legibility...
Just 4 pages left to go... But they mostly include paragraphs and paragraphs of handwritten messages from staff members, so lol.
Looking at pieces from so many incredible artists has me itching to draw something myself though. Inspiring stuff.

What? You’re saying I’m going to have a harder time processing and learning Spanish that’s above my proficiency levels solely because I’m in so much pain that my native tongue has become alphabet soup in my brain? *clutches pearls* Why, what ever do you mean??? /s

anyway the longer he travels with pikachu & lucario the more satoshi picks up their respective bits of pokéspeak & the more attuned to their auras he gets the better he can understand them until eventually he does understand them just as well as he would any human. his other pokémon need a little more effort to be understood because he isn't necessarily as close to them as he is to pikachu & lucario, but he picks up on words, on phrases, like knowing a sixth of a foreign language.

What are you planning to do in Germany? (btw I’m from Germany 😶‍🌫️)
i want to teach english and continue learning and strengthening my own german. (ahh cool cool! i may want to pick your brain >.<)
(i’ve been job/internship hunting in the states and keep thinking about going back to europe. i love the idea of teaching as i hope to one day teach creative writing or an environmental course at the collegiate level, so i believe this would be a wonderful opportunity and experience for me. furthermore, i fell in love with europe when i went seven years ago, and i believe this is something i need to pursue for the sake of my soul 😂🥲)
