Just a Normal Day

Why was is his turn? It wasn’t that big a deal but damn he hated being away from his guys. Not that he hated grocery shopping, but something always went wrong whenever he wasn’t constantly watching them. Skipper had spent the last hour stuck in similar thoughts. They may be new in town, but that wouldn’t stop something from going wrong. Rico was already past due on blowing something up. Realizing this, Skipper walked slightly faster back to the apartment they were lodging in.  Getting to the front door and fishing the key out of his pocket, Skipper still couldn’t believe this place took them in. Most other places they looked at had rejected them through various…. misunderstandings. This one though… This one had taken them in almost without even a second look. After they got in their apartment, it quickly became abundantly clear. He decided to take the stairs instead of risking the elevator. It may risk actual interaction, but at least the stairs aren’t out of order half the time.  “What’s your hurry there, Captain?” A voice called through the lobby. Quietly cussing to himself, Skipper turned to see who had addressed him. Walking up to him was a rather short woman with a wild mane of silvery purple hair. “Oh… Hi there… Amethyst, right?” Skipper asked. “Wow, he actually pays attention!” she responded. “And here I was starting to think you’d forget where you lived now.” Standing across from him now, with an expression Skipper knew reeked of mischief, Amethyst made it clear he wasn’t walking away from this any time soon.  Even if he thought it was useless, Skipper still had to try. “I’m sorry, but I really have to get back to my room…” “Oh no, we’ve barely seen you around here, and why not take this time for some neighborly bonding?” Amethyst interrupted. “I know there are more of you, and we barely see any of you. But damned it we can hear you.” Skipper knew exactly what she was talking about. Despite his best efforts, Kowalski insisted on setting up his mobile lab, and keeping Rico under control was about as easy as grabbing a handful of fire. Deciding to attempt an equally snarky attitude, Skipper responded “Well it’s not like we stand out with the rest of the residents. Besides, aren’t there others around here you can be messing around with?” Amethyst shrugged, “Well yeah, but none of them are you."  Now thoroughly frustrated, Skipper was desperate to get out of this unwanted social interaction. "Don’t you have someone you usually hang around with? Some blonde girl?” “Oh, you mean Peridot?” Amethyst asked. “She’s off somewhere buying nerd things for her collections,” she said waving her hand dismissively. “Alright, wasn’t there a blue haired one, then?” Skipper pressed. “She’d probably end up buying another computer to take apart again” Amethyst continued, seeming not to hear. Skipper looked down at the bags he’s still holding, really wanting to put them down. “Listen, I really need to get back to my room, so if we could do this some other….” A loud explosion from a few floors above them shocked Skipper into silence. Both of them stared at the ceiling, waiting for further sounds of destruction. Instead, Skipper could swear he heard the sounds of distant high pitched giggling. Before he could say anything, the lobby door opened again. “Outta the way everyone! I just set a new record for five times around the block, and I’m gonna celebrate!” Taking a step back by instinct Skipper barely registered a rainbow colored flash as someone new ran by him and Amethyst. “Hey Dash!” Amethyst called out to her. Pausing a moment halfway up the stair to look back, Rainbow Dash silently looked behind her waiting for whatever Amethyst has to say. “I think your girl started the party without you a minute ago. You should probably hurry before it ends.” Dash’s eyes narrowed in suspicion, but she didn’t say anything as she resumed her way back up the stairs. Shaking his head, Skipper tried one more time to get out of this mess he found himself in, only to see Amethyst holding a finger up while she excitedly stared at the ceiling. Looking up as well, he waited in silence until he heard a distant scream. “PINKIE!! WHAT DID YOU DO? THERE’S COTTON CANDY EVERYWHERE!!” More giggling followed as a door slammed shut, cutting off most of the sound. Not knowing how to process any of what just happened, Skipper looked over to see Amethyst laughing so hard, she had to brace against the wall to keep from falling over. With an exasperated sigh, Skipper couldn’t take it anymore. “Was there anything you wanted from me, or are we going to stand here all day meeting everyone that lives here?” Taking a minute to get all her giggles out, Amethyst took a breath before answering, “Well yeah, you guys keep to yourselves so much, I wanted to see what you’re like. I hear almost as many explosions from your place as I do from the pink one.” Amethyst was being casual, but Skipper could see an odd expression building on her face. She continued, “I see you guys around sometimes, but even that short one always seems to busy to talk. None of us have gotten to properly welcome you to our little building of hell.” Amethyst got a faraway look on her face for a second before continuing, “You guys are like bodyguards, right?” Surprised for a second at being called out like that, Skipper kept himself calm when he answered, “In a way, yeah. But I can’t really talk about that.” Raising her hands in a mock surrender gesture, “Hey, I get it man. Secret spy stuff and all that, right? I just wanted to know if I could ask a favor from the quiet one with the scars.” Deciding to humor her if it meant ending the talk faster, “You mean Rico? You’d have to ask him. But aren’t there like two other guys here you could ask favors from? Those weirdos that are always wearing red?” Amethyst looked him directly in the eye, “Would YOU ask those two dummies for a favor?” Skipper hadn’t seen much of them, but he had to admit she had a point. “You’d still have to ask Rico if you need him for anything. So long as you don’t mind things exploding in the process.” Amethyst looked away for a second muttering to herself but skipper could swear he heard the name “Alexa” in there.  Getting ready to attempt to break away again, a new voice called down the stairwell. “Skippa! You down there?” Looking up in surprise; he called back, “Private? Yeah, I’m down here.” Practically jumping down the stairs, the shining face of Skipper’s crew leaped into view. “Skippa! Thank goodness you’re here! Kowalski’s glued himself to the floor again!” Raising his hands with bags still being held, Skipper gestured around in hopelessness. “That’s the fifth damn time this month! Either he wears proper lab gear, or we’re coating him in baby powder from now on!” Skipper started marching up the stairs to where Private was waiting for him. Stopping suddenly and looking back to where Amethyst was still standing, he called back “Hey uh… nice talking to you. We should try again sometime.” Waving him off, Amethyst started walking away calling back to him, “Sure, whatever you dork. Go peel your friend off the floor or whatever’s going on.” As the two guys left her on her own, Amethyst absently looked out to the street through the glass door, vaguely expecting to see her girlfriend heading back. Seeing no one around, she took a breath before announcing to no one in particular, “I’m gonna take a nap!” She then turned towards the stairs and headed back to her place to do just that.

How the Peridot is aroace reveal will effect my AUs

In order to be respectful o the fact that Peridot is aroace, I decided to make some changes to my Human AU and the 2 + 3 AU. If I’m misrepresenting or got anything wrong about the aro/ace community and/or queerplatonic relationships, please let me know.

Human AU

I haven’t really posted anything about Peridot’s role in my Human AU, but I originally wrote her as an ace lesbian. She and Lapis were in a relationship for a while, but they broke up and she started dating Amethyst.

Obviously, Peridot is now aroace in this AU, but she initially believes herself to be an ace lesbian and still dates Lapis for a period of time. After Lapis skips town after experiencing a mental breakdown, Peridot mourns their relationship, but eventually comes to realize that she never felt romantic attraction towards her or anyone for that matter. She makes this realization after a conversation with Garnet, who in this AU is also aroace.

Eventually, Peridot and Amethyst form a queerplatonic relationship. In this AU, Amethyst has always been demiromantic and bisexual. They share a very strong non-romantic bond, enjoying cuddling, hugging, occasional love making (Peridot is sex positive, but has a very low sex drive), and quality time, and Lapis and Peridot remain good friends.

2 + 3 AU

If you’re familiar with this AU, then you know about the Lapamedot triplets. They’re not going anywhere, but the relationships between their parents is different now. Basically, Lapis was unknowingly experiencing a very intense heat (she didn’t know at this point that she was fertile, and not experiencing a heat cycle for the nearly 6000 years she spent trapped in the mirror meant this one was very intense). Knowing only that Lapis was stupid horny, Amethyst suggested to Peridot that they “help her out.”

Now, like in my Human AU, Peridot hadn’t fully realized at this point that she was aroace. Her reasoning for participating in this was a) wanting to help Lapis, and b) she’d read and enjoyed fan fiction where this kind of thing happened, and thought it would be fun. Afterward, she realized that she’d rather be a spectator than a participant in that kind of thing, and decided it wasn’t something she wanted to do again.

Just in my original plan, Lapis becomes pregnant by both Amethyst and Peridot, and has their triplets. They happily co-parent their daughters, and nothing romantic happens between the three of them. I might have Amethyst and Peridot be in a queerplatonic relationship here too, but I haven’t decided yet.

So, there are the changes! Again, please let me know if I got anything wrong about aromanticism or queerplatonic relationships.

idk if this is a discussion anymore but even though i’m a lapidot shipper amedot is still just as good and valid as lapidot. people have different opinions and will like one more than the other regardless of which one is “objectively ‘better’” or “more canon.” y’all need to find something more productive to fight about
