Sources for LBP's Development

good morning everyone reminder that LBP's concept art is online and you can look at it for FREE here are tons of sources i've collected for anyone as autistic as me who want to try replicating the style. The underline portions are links btw :3 LBP1 CONCEPT ART: This includes mainly conceptual images for the making of sackboy, but also includes some costumes along with environmental pieces for levels appearing in the first game.

LBP2 CONCEPT ART: Similar to LBP1, however includes tons of collage pieces and way more environmental ideas. Includes costumes and concepts for many beloved characters!! Probably my favorite out of the 3 due to the extensive experimentation.

LBP3 CONCEPT ART: I dont know why its so hard to find sources for this one? I've only been able to get reddit links and this was the most concise one. I will try to look for more. I did also find these interest concept works for LBP3, but each image has an individual link so what's the point of giving that when i can just put it right here!

I have ALSO found developer logs on youtube showcasing early LBP gameplay along with concepts. Playlist dedicated to Developement of LBP, usually showcasing milestones or tech demos.

Documentary on LBP's original team and sort of the creation of media molecule and LBP itself. 6/12/24 I FOUND MORE STUFF FOR LBP3!!! These are some alpha builds of the game that include playable levels.

HELP WANTED: LITTLEBIGPLANET FAN MOVEMENT

For the past year or so I’ve been working on a fan movement to revitalize interest in LittleBigPlanet on Sony’s terms. Think it comparable to Operation Moonfall, a fan movement for revitalizing interest in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, which eventually led to its 3D Remake.

While I can’t promise the plan I’ve set out is guaranteed to result in a new LBP game, I do believe that it is also the best opportunity for one to be made. However, as I’ve worked behind the scenes I’ve found it impossible to maintain on my own. Therefore I must ask for help.

Operation Mushroom Tree, as it is tentatively titled, involves the creation of a professional pitch for a new LittleBigPlanet entry for modern consoles. This pitch would provide a basic outline of what a new entry would entail, and prove why the franchise would still be popular.

The goal is not to make a wishlist nor a whole new installment on our own, but a feasible design concept for a new game that the community can rally behind. While this exact pitch may not be directly used by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Operation Mushroom Tree would be a template to guide development of a new game. The design document at the forefront would show the best way to make a new installment in a way that would be enticing to shareholders and employees of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the current rights holders.

The document has been mainly continuously written by me. However, I am just beginning my journey into game development, and this project would be unsustainable on my own. I need concept artists and render artists to create mockups of believable illustrations of the game Operation Mushroom Tree provides. As well, I’d sincerely love the second opinions of other game designers who are passionate about the LBP franchise. Finally, I have only a very rudimentary idea of how LBP works on a programming and hardware level, and thus this project would benefit from an expert on such.

To be precise, I am looking for:

- 3D Modeling or Photoshop Artists to create renders and mock-ups of gameplay mechanics.

- Individuals with history in Game Design and have a fondness for the LittleBigPlanet Franchise, mainly to help write and guide the main design document.

- Individuals who have intimate knowledge of the LittleBigPlanet franchise on a hardware and software level, and can evaluate the feasibility of certain features on modern hardware.

If you or anyone you know falls into these categories, please contact me through Tumblr. If you are not in these categories, but are interested and believe you are able to help with this campaign, please contact me as well, and hopefully we can find a way to work together still. Do please provide some evidence of your past work and knowledge with your message.

I know that many out there currently are disappointed with the treatment of the LBP franchise after 2024, as am I. However, I do believe that LittleBigPlanet could thrive in today’s landscape, and would be beneficial to the games industry as a whole. Therefore, I am willing to embark on this journey, not only to entertain fans, but to help support up-and-coming developers get their first steps, as LBP did for me.

me, like many other people right now, are very heartbroken with the recent news of the lbp3 servers. this game did so much for me, especially in developing the person that i am today. i have met SO many amazing people through the lbp community, and i have so many wonderful memories! the community was one of the main things that even inspired me to begin drawing in the first place. i genuinely dont know where id be right now if this game wasnt in my life.

its all just so.. sudden. a part of me feels like this game went too soon but at the same time, it was kinda expected. i just really REALLY wish sony cared more about this franchise instead of letting it leave like this, and so awfully silently might i add. the whole situation is extremely frustrating, and i wish i had some sort of future vision abt this happening so i could enjoy all my favorite levels one last time. shit really hurts honestly.

but yeah!! if theres anything that lbp taught me, it was to keep on dreaming and to never stop creating - a lesson that i have very much taken to heart for all of these years.

Y'all have no idea how much of an influence lbp had on me as a kid.

I don't think I would have even tried programming if it wasn't for the creative mode on lbp2. I loved creating stuff on there and loved to just mess around. I opened the microchips of other peoples creations and tried to copy it and eventually made my own stuff. And then I found out that this was basically just visual coding. So I decided to try to learn coding for real. And thats where it all started.

And now? Well I studied IT, I went into a web development bootcamp, dropped out and decided to go for an actual bachelor in software engineering.

LBP will always have a special place in my heart.

oh shit finally somebody else who played the sackboy game! i enjoyed it but i still think it shoulda given the build option via LBP

I'd say I agree but honestly I think the idea of having two separate branches of the LBP franchise, one for hand-crafted 3D platforming and adventure a-la Mario 3D World, and one for user generated content and heightened creative tools & social interaction, is my ideal future for the series. I think Sackboy was as good as it was BECAUSE it didn't try to do something over-ambitious like create a 3D level editor. it knew exactly what it was and what it wanted to be, and it ends up become an EXCELLENT 3D platformer as a result without getting bogged down by all the details and trying to live up to the creation tools of previous entries like LBP 3 did. Lest we forget, LBP3 and Sackboy were both developed by Sumo Digital. I'd say Sackboy was a sign that Sumo learned from the somewhat disastrous release of LBP3 and understood where their strengths lie. And personally, I'm just down for ANY continuation of the IP and the Sackboy character, almost no matter what form it takes.

Economy

Lebanon mainly imports from the European Union, Türkiye, and China and exports to the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. Its top exports are diamonds, polyacetals, and gold.

It has natural gas, limestone, oil, and salt reserves. Services represent 83% of the GDP, followed by industry (13.1%) and agriculture (3.9%).

Lebanon is a member of the Arab League, la Francophonie, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Demographics

95% of the population is Arab, while Armenians make up 4%. The main religion is Islam, practiced by 55% of the population, 27.6% of which is Sunni.

It has a negative net migration rate and a fertility rate of 1.7 children per woman. 89% of the population lives in urban areas. Life expectancy is 78.3 years and the median age is 31.3 years. The literacy rate is 96.7%.

Languages

The official language of the country is Arabic. French is spoken by 40% of the population.

Culture

Lebanese culture has Persian, Greek, Roman, Arab, Ottoman, and French influences. Lebanese people are very gregarious.

Men traditionally wear a shirt, a dark vest, baggy pants (sherwal), a belt, and a headdress. Women wear a shiny dress (gambaz), a wide belt, and a conical hat with a long piece of silk (tantur).

Traditional houses in Lebanon are made of stone and wood and have flat roofs and terraces.

Cuisine

The Lebanese diet is based on fish, meat, pulses, and vegetables. Typical dishes include bamieh bi-zeit (okra and tomato stew), kibbeh (fried balls made of spiced meat and bulgur), sayadieh (seasoned fish and rice), sfouf (an almond-semolina cake), and tabbouleh (a salad of bulgur, onion, tomatoes, and parsley).

Holidays and festivals

Like other Christian and Muslim countries, Lebanon celebrates Epiphany, Armenian Christmas, St. Maroun Day, Feast of the Annunciation Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Assumption, Christmas Day, Islamic New Year, Ashura, Mawlid, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha. It also commemorates New Year’s Day and Labor Day.

Specific Lebanese holidays include Rafic Hariri Memorial Day on February 14, Liberation and Resistance Day on May 25, and Lebanese Independence Day on November 22.

I've recently finished Steins;Gate LBP, a side game featuring stories from different timelines and different characters. So what's better than to rank these 11 stories from worst to best?

11th: Dr. Jekyll Online (B tier) Out of all of them, this is prob my least favourite, as i feel as if this story is was made for it to introduce to you to how its gonna work, and it does a good job! though by doing so, it kind of lacks behind.

As the storyline is one we have kinda seen before, with Okabe missing Mayuri, though i like the new turn to it with alpaca man and trying to find justice but always having evil follow it. And its interesting seeing how Okabe copes with Mayuri's death.

10th Abduction Across Three Worlds (B Tier) And here is Okabe's 2nd story, this one is much more technical and its less filled with emotional moments, but more comedically and technical moments like the use of the Phonewave and how it affects a worldline

My problem with this one is that it can get way too confusing at times, like the thing was a jumbled mess on my mind until i somehow figured it out. Also, i def felt as if this was a waste to declare this as a 4% storyline when it could have easily been an alpha one.

9th: The Caged Bird Sings (B Tier) This one is a lot more cute than anything, it shows how Itaru and Yuki are kind of destined to meet and find each other even in completely different worldlines. Its cute seeing them together and surprising to see Yuki here too!

My main problem in this extends from Itaru pervertedness being over the roof, he gen cant go a single line without throwing one. and while it can be funny on the main storyline, when it comes to him and being on his mind and seeing it everywhere, it becomes annoying

8th: Hermaphroditus In the Labyrinth (A Tier) A nice Alternate storyline where not only do we see what Lukako went through in his time where he went back in time with the leap machine, but also an alternate ending where he DOESNT tell Rintaro the truth. Not much else to say.

7th: Ghostly Rendezvous (A Tier) The Suzuha from different timelines! Personally, this one is super nice purely from how much i adore Omega Suzuha (Supposedly Steins; Gate Suzuha). She is super cute and adorable and deserves the world (1/2)

I also loved the interactions between the 3 Suzuhas, they are so fun to see and how their personalities clash, especially Omega and Beta Suzuha with their banter with who gets to be called Suzuha, either Alpha, or Omega. (2/2)

6th: Superhero Chat-Noir (A tier) Just a lovely story on how Faris is handling the loss of her Father and how her personality is a way for her to cope with it. Especially amazing how this chapter can lead up to others like Suzuhas with her accept your family. great Yugo ep too.

5th: Vermilion Soteria (A Tier) Feat episode that can seemingly fit in the original timeline of Steins;Gate, this was a surprisingly good episode for Idabashi, as we get to see he isn't all horrible and can have a softer and nicer side to him.

4th: Lunar Bifröst (S Tier) Stellar ending, it develops Nae in a wholesome and cute way. I really liked the interactions of Daru and Nae, though preferable he could have toned down the pervertedness by 100%. But i like how he lied to protect her, shows he still cares abt her.

3rd: The Quantum Awakening (S Tier) PEAK EPISODE, Moeka gets such an arc in this, and i believe its the saddest, and most bittersweet episode out of all of them. It shows how much of a broken mess Moeka is and how just some appreciation is more than enough for her.

2nd: Eternal Polaris (S tier) Mayuri peaks in this, this almost feels like it could have been the original Mayuri ending on steins gate, but decided to move it here, i personally enjoyed it a lot more than her ending, as we get to see her relation with her grandma and guilt.

1st. Filled with Love (S Tier) This was a number one the moment i played it, the struggle Yugo goes to merely get Nae to feel happy because she had to live without her mom is so heart-breaking, especially considering how she died while giving birth. (1/3)

Like the story is so nice because Yugo tries his best to give Nae a happy life while being an only father, but always failing because what she really misses is Suzuha, AKA someone from another timeline who doesn't exist in this one.

This especially hits hard in the end with the "Time Heals" message, as we see the future where Nae and Suzuha finally re-meet as she finally is born. Like this image alone is enough to fill my eyes with tears. Overall, and amazing and best story out of the bunch

Sackboy gets bitches

LBP1- Sackgirl

Sackgirl isn't really a character unless your avatar is a girl. Still, prerelease and promotional material promote her as the Sackgirl to Sackboy's Sackboy.

In the Milestone 5 video, Sackboy has a photo of her in his pod.

There's an ad where Sackboy goes to save Sackgirl, but it ends badly. (Not sure if this is actually the E3 2008 trailer there are a lot of uploads of this vid lol )

There were also some promotional renders of them together for valentine's day.

There's probably more to this since LBP1 had a lot of advertising. These are just the ones I remember right now.

Oh yeah, there are the wedding outfits's existence also. Let's hope the marriage didn't go through, considering the murder.

At the end of Tinsel Town this lady asks you to sign a prenup after being rescued by the giant ape. Hey, at least take us on a date first!

If you don't know what a prenup is... you can look it up! You're already online! But basically it means when they get married and then divorce, Sackboy isn't gonna get any money in compensation. Hey...

LBP2- Sackbot Harem

Well, there's this render of Sackboy being surrounded by enamoured Sackbots and blushing.

In the game itself, there's a level where enamoured Sackbots are attracted by a pretty hologram called Luscious Lucy. (are they all sapphic?) It might be a stretch, but maybe at one point in development they were attracted to you? xD

LBP3- Prototype Newton

I've posted about these lines before. I think they're funny cuz if they were kept this would mean that Newton was explicitly bi/gay. Thank you to whoever at Sumo Digital put these in for nobody to see. I appreciate you.

In an unused level in the final game (sacktown) that can be ported and played on the alpha version, Newton says you can use the Pumpinator on both women and men's skirts. This has nothing to do with Sackboy I just like telling people about it.
