I mbliana ba mhaith liom cúig leabhar a léamh i nGaelainn, ar a laghad. Thá ceann amháin críochnaithe agam fén dtráth so - An Tríú hInsint, scéal bleachtaireachta ab ea é sin, agus thaitin sé liom.
Tháim tréis ceann eile a thosnú "Greenhorn" le Maidhc Dainín Ó Sé, n'fheadar go fóill cad lena mbaineann an scéal ach taibhsítear dom go bhfuil ról ag an Mafia.
An bhfuileann sibh ag léamh aon leabhar i nGaelainn?

Táim ag léamh an leabhar ghrinn "Ortha an Tuama" agus an leabhar "To Hell or Barbados"!! Tá "Ortha an Tuama" i nGaeilge agus tá "To Hell or Barbados" i mBéarla. Tá siad araon go maith :) ach is fearr liom "To Hell or Barbados". Tá go leor eolais agus staire aige faoi Éirinn
If you see this you’re legally obligated to reblog and tag with the book you’re currently reading

Tha an abhainn seo cho àlainn. The latha math ann ach tha i fuar a-nis. … Chan eil a’ ghrian ann an-dràsta, ach tha i seo fad an latha. Tha a’ Ghearmailt bhreagha gu mòr.

Hello! I haven't been on Tumblr for a hot minute so please forgive me if my formatting is, for lack of a better word, fuck ass. Also I'm probably going to be on mobile half the time so that doesn't help. Anyways! This is a roleplay story I've been doing with over a year with @busybeewriting— enjoy!
Welcome to Leabhar Scéalta. A world whose lifeblood is stories. Fairytales, folklore, and anything in between are all what keep the world— or perhaps pages— turning. Unfortunately, life isn't always sunshine and rainbows here. Everyone's story has all kinds of obstacles before they can reach their happy ending. And what makes it worse is that the villains are starting to band together to flip the narrative...
Our main characters, and members of the current queen's council consist of:
Fern (Feruna) Wynyra - The princess (and current, temporary queen) of the Fairytale Realm, Leabhar Scéalta. A headstrong woman who would do anything to keep her friends and family safe.
Alice Windwillow - The Explorer. A curious girl who fell to Wonderland as a child— and made it a habit to visit her new friends every day. That is, until the book she used to get there ran out of magic...
Aerial Windarin - The Kind. A bard with stage freight Fern met in the Fae Realm while searching for Alice. Though shy, his gentle nature is exactly what's needed in times when it seems all hope is lost.
Riddle Rosehearts - The Proper. As Prince of Hearts and son of Iracebeth, the Red Queen, he has always held himself and those around him to high standards— as much as it annoys them.
Ace Trappola - The Magician. One of Riddle's personal card soldiers, and childhood friends. He's always had a knack for magic, though actually applying those skills and pushing the limits is not his forte. He prefers to skate by with what's necessary; though that goes out the window when it comes to the ones he loves.
Deuce Spade - The Brave. Riddle's second personal card soldier and childhood friend. He always means well, though often his endeavors end in blunders and more trouble than he set out for. Despite this, he's never let his unlucky streak hold him down, and comes through for his friends in their time of need.
Cupid Vélos - The Archer. A love god in training and the best friend of Fern's older brother. He doesn't know much about anything, unless it's love.
Epel Felmier - The Spitfire. A late addition to the group, though a welcome one. The son of the 'Evil Queen', and Snow White's half sibling. His mother pressures him to be proper and embrace his natural beauty— but he much prefers being an unexpected, and firey, asset to the team.
Loki Laufeyson - The Confidant. As the god of chaos, Loki certainly didn't expect to become attached to these idiots. Especially one particular, royal idiot. And yet here they are, her confidant.

I ordered a copy of Leabhar Mór Bhriathra Na Gaeilge (The Great Irish Verb Book) which shows verbs conjugated in all tenses and moods in the Caighdeán and also the three main dialects...
It arrived today, so I've been flicking through, and I would just like to say that Munster Irish speakers have NO BUSINESS claiming Ulster Irish is hard. What are your verbs even doing down there???

Níor dheineas a lán rudaí inniu, ach ba lá ceart go leor é ar aon nós. Don chuid is mó den lá ní rabhas ach ag féachaint ar cheann dena cláranna speisialta Miraculous nua atá ar TG4 (An ceann atá lonnaithe i Nua Eabhrac) agus ar Éadaí SOS (paisean faisean ach gan paisean do faisean). Ach taobh amuigh dena rudaí sin? Ní dhearna mé tada... is dócha nár cheart dom na laethanta deireanacha de 2023 a chur amú- ( ̄ ̄|||) Mothúchán anois: N'fheadar, díreach táim dubh dóite anois ( ̄ω ̄ )

The Dental Rule (exceptions to lenition!)
When a word that causes lenition ends in a dental consonant (D, N, T or L) and the word being lenited starts with D, T or S, lenition does not occur.
Examples:
Feminine nouns with the article
An deoch, not a' dheoch
An tè , not a' thè
An sgian, not a' shgian
Feminine nouns with an adjective
Sgian-dubh OR sgian dhubh*
Fuil dearg OR fuil dhearg*
The adjective "seann" (old)
Seann duine, not seann dhuine
Seann tidsear, not seann thidsear
Seann saoghal, not seann shaogal
The negative particle "chan"
Cha tusa, not chan thusa
Cha sinne, not chan shinne
Cha tig, not chan thig
Exceptions to the exceptions:
For many speakers, the Dental Rule is starting to drop out for nouns with adjectives and compound nouns. As a result, you might encounter "fuil dearg" OR "fuil dhearg"; neither is incorrect. Sometimes this can lead to a contrast between established and spontaneously formed phrases, such as "sgian-dubh" (the ornamental "black knife" worn with a kilt) versus "sgian dhubh" (any knife that is black).
For "chan", the exceptions to lenition are primarily D and T. Verbs starting with S are still lenited (but the pronouns sibh and sinn are not!).
As always, there are dialects that do not have this rule.

tá coinne agam leis an gender clinic níos déanaí i mí Iúil agus bhí mé ag ullmhú i m'intinn, ag smaointe ar na ceisteanna srl. ach bhí mé ag smaointe as gaeilge: "an bhfuil sé normálta a bheith... a fuck níl an focal agam, tá sé deacair an ábhar seo a phlé as gaeilge... fan. beidh an coinne as bearla. beidh sé ag tarlú i londain"
bhí mé ann like "cád é an gaeilge ar 'orgasm'? cád faoi 'penetration'? níl mé ábalta an ceist seo a chur ar mo mhúinteoir anseo..." ach níl aon gá ann 💀

Huh, I didn't know there was a version of the Tain, where the story ends with Findabair is given over to Cu Chulainn (as a secondary wife?)
This alternative end is from the Yellow Book of Lecan, which I found here.

I got a book about Conversational Irish, Something to learn and practice with.
It's kinda old, almost as old as me, but it looks pretty legit.
Gonna keep it with me in my bag, so that wherever I am, I can try to find a moment to practice my Irish.
