#1 is my uncle's chicken matzah ball soup. Its a family legend of a soup. it's essentially a chicken stew and the signature spice is Hawaij: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaij. it WILL stain anything it gets on yellow and its WONT come out. 100000/10 soup. On the application to the college I eventually went to the final application question was "what is one food you would cook for the admission team?" and I put this soup. (recipe will be under the cut)

OK NOW FOR THE LEGENDARY SOUP RECIPE:

Matzo Ball Soup

Recipe from: Mum

Makes:

1 whole 8-piece chicken

1 turnip, chunked

1 rutabaga, chunked

2-3 large carrots, diced

1 onion, diced

1 head of whole garlic cloves

Lots of whole fresh parsley

1 tbsp Osem soup flavoring

1 Manischewitz Matzo Ball Soup Mix

Tons of Hawaij

Put a whole 8-piece chicken in a large pot with water. Bring to boil, skimming off the schmaltz that will gather on the top. (Schmaltz is a foamy-like fatty substance that appears on the rim.) Stop when the foam stops forming on the top of the soup.

While the chicken boils/cooks, chop up one turnip, one rutabaga, two to three large carrots, and one onion (just depends on preference). Add these to the pot along with whole garlic cloves. Add Osem chicken soup seasoning (to taste), about one tablespoon. Note this adds a good amount of salt to the soup. For richer flavor, you can use chicken/bone broth for the base soup as well. If you do this, add less water in the beginning as this will add volume.

Use Manischewitz matzo ball soup mix to make matzo balls (follow its instructions) and add the soup mix to the pot. Add tons of Hawaij (turmeric-like spice from the middle east). Must be Hawaij MARAK (marak = soup). Add in lots of whole parsley.

Note on adding matzo balls to soup: they take time to absorb the soup into the ball, but also get mushier as they sit in the liquid longer. So, add them whenever you decide, weighing these factors.

Optional: after a long time of simmering on low boil, remove the chicken and de-bone so you do not have to deal with that while eating. I do this by shredding it with two forks so I do not have to touch the boiling hot chicken. My mom does this by hand, burning her fingers.

*my uncle also sues potato in this soup but my family dislikes potato in soup so we removed it. feel free to add that back in! add different veggies. it will all taste of hawaij in the end.

It was only a handful of ingredients that Shiro did not have. Hunk provided them and said that they came from Asian specialty shops, one of which did online delivery so Shiro would be able to do it on his own. It was a little pricey, but Hunk did say he could always just use chicken stock. Anyway, they made the stock and while they made the stock, they made some glazed pork, which was easier than Shiro thought it would be. They chopped up some scallions, soft boiled an egg, and added some sheets of nori for presentation. When the noodles were done boiling (and Shiro was grateful he didn’t have to do something insane like make the noodles), they assembled everything.

This morning I knew I needed some fiber so I made spam, green beans, carrots, and spicy ramen. I struggle to figure out what food to make for breakfast in general, especially veggie-wise. I gotta figure something out for that. Maybe some kind of vegetable hash browns?

Stream went okay. Inktober turned out great and I cranked out the monthly Venus patreon reward. It came out looking classic with how I happened to do the colors and blending.

After stream I tried to do my workout. I did most of it, only missed out on 1/4 of my treadmill time because for some reason working out has gotten harder. I don't know if it's because I've been slacking off and getting back into it is hard or if my body wasn't nourished enough to keep up even though I thought breakfast was okay. I might need to eat an extra big breakfast on workout days instead of a big lunch after.

After working out I gave my dog a bath and took my own shower. The shower made me feel gross because it's not the cleanest currently so tomorrow I'm going to be super cleaning it and also doing laundry.

Lunch was tuna spaghetti with a pear cup. The guy that got today's request hadn't responded yet so I worked on this pic of Misty I had sketched and finished it. He replied right on time so I did his request too. After work I began assembled pictures of saloons for my friend's VRchat world and shared them with him. He was busy playing the Forest with his friends in call so I couldn't really talk with him but I hung out and listened. In the middle of it my dad came over to give me this scam device to plug into an outlet that is supposed to "save power." He literally got scammed by one of these already so I don't understand how he fell for it again. He also came to tell me that the plan is to board up the fireplace and install a new heater in an undesirable location in the cabin so I gotta figure out what to do about that.

For awhile I played more Legendary Tales and got off to make rice a roni and chicken fries for dinner. Daisy called me on her way back from a concert and we had a really good chat. She called me in bed like usual as well while I played more dungeon. Im writing late because the floor I was on took longer than I thought it would.

KAO Manila Day & Night Club Offers Lunch and Dinner Menu

There’s a new luxury VIP club in Manila that is fast becoming the hippest place to be. KAO Manila recently opened its doors at the Newport World Resorts at a familiar spot where legendary clubs Republiq and Opus used to be. I remember spending some of my youthful evenings in this area partying the night away, so it is refreshing to see that there’s a new party place here suited for those with a more refined taste.

The newest VIP day and night club destination at Newport World Resorts held its grand opening last February 18, 2023. You can find it at the second floor of the Newport Mall, just beside the mall’s grand plaza and fountain. While the main event at KAO Manila is the nightly clubbing and parties, you don’t have to wait until late evenings to visit this new day and night club, because they will soon be offering their lunch and dinner menu that will be available any time of the day.

The Hungry Kat was invited to experience Kao Manila one Saturday evening and it was the perfect occasion because legendary DJ John Robinson was performing that night. At KAO Day & Night Club, you can experience world-class music, exceptional service, and state-of-the art lights and sound in a cozy and luxurious venue.

My friends and I were seated at their private VIP area which had the best views of the floor and even had its own comfort room. KAO Manila features several VIP private areas together with other cocktail tables and chairs that can be reserved for your groups. Tonight, we were going to have a sneak preview of their lunch and dinner menu items that will soon be available to the public.

But before that, we ordered some of their Classic Cocktails like the Cosmopolitan (P450), Amaretto Sour (P450), and Long Islang Iced Tea (P450). These colorful beverages are a great way to start your evenings at KAO Manila.

Just like other clubs, KAO Manila has a wide selection wines, liquours, whiskeys, tequila, and other spirits to enhance your experience. Order one of their bottles and you also get a lively dance as part of your bottle service.

Now it’s time for our dinner preview! KAO Manila is part of the FatFook and Ramen Nagi group, so expect to encounter fantastic dishes featuring Asian specialties. This is the Six Pieces Dimsum Basket containing a variety of delectable dimsum.

I loved eating the plump shrimp dumplings, while the pork siomai are adorned with fish roe and gold leaf to make them even more luxurious.

The Fresh Hokkaido Oyster is a beautifully decorated gigantic piece of oyster placed on ice. If you prefer to have your oysters fried, go and order the Fried Hokkaido Oyster instead.

KAO Manila offers some meaty dishes as well like the Roasted Pork Shoulder with gold trimmings. This pork asado can beat any of the asado dishes found at other Chinese restaruants.

They also have the White Chicken with Scallions which is another Asian specialty. I enjoy eating hainanese chicken so this is also a great dish to have. The only thing missing is chicken rice!

The Pulled Pork Cuapao is good to share with the table as it comes with three pieces of buns filled with tender and juicy pulled pork. These bar chows are great to have together with your drinks.

Another option is the Singaporean Chili Crab which you can put inside these deep fried buns. Best of all, you don’t need to peel the crab from its shell because they already did it for you. This one is quite spicy so you really need the fried buns to balance the flavors.

These amazing dishes should be paired with rice so the Salmon Fried Rice with Ikura is a good companion. This tasty fried rice comes with Ikura or salmon caviar as they are called in Japan which simply pop in your mouth.

Lastly, the Unaju is a complete meal by itself with its sumptuous grilled eel placed on top of steaming white rice. This was one of my favorite dishes that evening and KAO Manila really makes everything look so pretty and delicious.

What made that Saturday night extra special was that it featured the one and only John Robinson, known as the King of Retro Parties who lets his guests step back in time and dance to the beat of the classics. He even dropped by our table to chat with us before his session started.

It was truly a spectacular evening at KAO Manila filled with spectacular music, excellent food, and overflowing beverages. We would like to thank our friend Pepper Teehankee and the owners of KAO Manila for hosting our dinner party and letting us experience their one of a kind VIP club. "This guy is the ADAM?" Arima thought when she saw a newcomer wearing a mask. She was next to Miya as the man mocked the boy for having a change of heart before shifting his attention to Langa.

She never cared about ADAM, even though she’s a hardcore “S” skater, but hearing him insult the boy pissed her off and she didn’t give a damn if he’s some legendary person who founded “S”.

"Oi, are you really ADAM?"

Shocked gasps erupted when Arima questioned him.

"Hmm? Why doubt me?"

"Well… I've never seen ADAM before and I just want to confirm that this asshole talking to Miya like that is not some poor rip-off of the legend. Or maybe, the legend himself is an asshole to the core."

Angry yells erupted as they threw garbage on her while complaining that she's an idiot and a fool to insult the legend.

One look from her made them shut up.

Adam could only laugh. "You have guts. I commend you that…DEVIL."

She was recognized, which was considered a rarity coming from the ADAM.

"Are you manipulating Miya to be a complete robot? Skating is supposed to be fun. Sure there is the competition and beefs but, that's what makes it interesting and fun." She looked at him straight to the eyes. “No matter what it is, skating is something you enjoy.”

"Who the fuck is this kid?!"

"How dare he talk back to ADAM like that?"

Arima may look like she didn't care but Reki knew that deep down, she's scared shitless when she'll turn as Arima the next day. Even Langa could tell after they three hangout often.

They arrived at school and came first to check Arima's room. They were greeted by the sight of a wilted Arima, face-first on her desk.

"I knew this would happen somehow…" Reki sighed. "That's why I stepped in, partly because I hate that guy's attitude and partly not to risk you any longer, since I know you’ll react like this if you challenged him."

"I wanna commit seppuku..." She mumbled.

Langa poked her cheek when she was in a daze until she snapped awake and covered her face.

"Nah, it was my decision to challenge him." He told her. “If he wins, he’ll skate against Langa.”

“I still feel bad…”

“I know how you feel back then.” He told her. “You want him to take back what he said to Miya. You hate his guts. I get it. We think the same.”

“But, isn’t strange?” Reki added. “When you challenged him to a race, he refused. But, he acknowledged you.”

“I absolutely would never race with you, ever.” ADAM replied after she challenged him.

“Hah? Are you chickening out? Masked weirdo.” Arima raised an eyebrow.

He leaned close to her face and his tone changed to something menacing. “You’re the only person I would never skate with, DEVIL.”

Arima was silent as she looked at her ramen. “Why though…”

The Simple Things in Daily Life Become ‘Day Makers’ on the PCT

As I hike out here on the PCT, I can’t help but think of how the simple things in daily life can now turn my entire day around and become day makers. These days, living as an unemployed, dirty, thru-hiker, I get really excited to see things like a garbage can, pit toilets with toilet and running water. Week Five proved to be a huge shift in perspective for me. The things I get really excited about and are worth hiking for as a thru-hiker are a lot different than when I was just a day hiker.

Water Sources at Tentsites

One of my favorite things to do after hiking several miles on a hot day is soak my feet in water. A few times this week, we ended our hiking day at a tent site with a flowing creek nearby where we could refill our water while soaking our tired, dirty feet. Having clean and rested feet is one of the best feelings out here on trail.

Satisfying Food Cravings

Hiking the PCT makes me hungry. Really hungry. There’s a phenomenon out here called “Hiker Hunger” and it’s real. Hiker Hunger started for me after 300 miles and it’s only gotten worse the farther I hike up the trail. It can do wonders for shedding weight from your food bag, but Hiker Hunger can also be quite expensive whenever you come into town. Twice this week, I was able to satisfy a few really big food cravings on trail.

On Day 29, Bleeder and I ended our 18 mile hiking day at Cleghorn Picnic Area, Mile 328.1, near Silverwood Lake where we were able to have a large veggie pizza, sides of ranch and a two-liter root beer delivered to us. Those 18 miles were long and hot, but a whole lot easier to do when we knew we’d have pizza for dinner that night. Yes, I’ll most certainly hike for pizza.

Then the very next day, at Mile 341.9, we spent five hours eating at McDonalds. I know what you’re thinking, who would be excited to eat at a McDonalds, let alone want to spend five hours there? The trail does some funny things to your brain while you’re out here. This is the only McDonalds close to the trail (only .3 miles from trail) and is so legendary, it has its own sign on the PCT.

We arrived at the busiest time ever – Saturday afternoon during Memorial Weekend. The place was swarming with dirty thru-hikers AND weekend travelers. There was also a constant long line for the women’s restroom the entire time we were there.

I took full advantage of the five hours we spent here. I started off ordering breakfast with a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, hash browns and an orange juice. After a pause, I ordered Round Two, which consisted of a Big Mac, French fries, six-piece chicken nuggets and an apple pie. Before we left, I ordered an Oreo McFlurry and got two cheeseburgers to-go for dinner later that night. I ate so much food and I didn’t feel the least bit guilty about it.

Even out of my own food bag on trail, I’ve been able to satisfy food cravings on a daily basis. I look forward to eating Rice Krispies Treats for breakfast, crave Top Ramen for lunch and will now only eat instant mashed potatoes with a side of brown gravy. Brown gravy makes any meal out here worth hiking for. Who knew?

Hiking in Clean Socks Without Holes

As a day hiker, I always made it a habit to have an extra pair of socks in my pack at all times. It was rare I ever had to use the second pair. Most of the time this extra pair was just extra weight in my pack.

As we were leaving Big Bear (at Mile 266.1) I realized I only had one pair of socks…the same pair I was wearing. I had accidentally packed the rest of my socks in my resupply boxes for the Sierra. Ugh!

My socks were pretty tough for the first two days. But one hole in the big toe turned into two more holes in the heel. Since we never stopped in one place long enough for my socks to dry, I wasn’t able to wash off the dirt that was caking up on them.

I can’t tell you how incredibly uncomfortable it was to hike six days and over 100 miles, in dirt, sand, rocks and with over 16,000 feet elevation gain in socks that were literally falling apart underneath my feet.

I learned a VERY valuable lesson – never leave town without at least three pairs of socks. Have one to wear and at least two for back up. As soon as we got into Wrightwood, I bought a new pair of socks and put them on immediately. I will never underestimate the power and comfort of hiking in clean socks without holes again.

Town Days

Town Days are really exciting out here on trail. Nothing can get me out of my sleeping bag faster than knowing I’ll be able to shower, do laundry, throw away my trash in a garbage can, eat a meal that doesn’t require boiling water and be able to use a toilet that flushes and is stocked with toilet paper in less than 12 hours. Town Days also mean my pack is significantly lighter because my food bag and water carries are practically empty.

This week, we took a Nero Day in Wrightwood. That means we hiked into town early in the afternoon, spent the night in a hotel room with my entire trail family and got back on trail the next afternoon. Our next proper Zero Day would be in Agua Dulce at Hiker Heaven in a week.

Other highlights that happened this week – crawling up Mount Baden-Powell, elevation 9,407 feet, getting a brand new hiking outfit sent to me on trail from the ladies at Athleta and enjoying daily afternoon siestas while hiding from the hot afternoon sun.

The simplest things in life are truly the best and always worth hiking for.

2. What's the funniest way you've been injured? I'm clumsy. I could fill an entire post with stupid and funny ways I've gotten hurt! The most recent though, was probably trying to walk across a clear living room floor with a dead leg. I tripped over literally nothing and managed to sprain pretty much everything possible in my ankle! I spent 12 weeks in a walking cast... 

3. If you could ask your pet 3 questions, what would they be? Can you please exist? 😂 I don't have a pet, sadly. I would LOVE a cat though.

4. What are your pet peeves? Hmm, tough one. Maybe when people interrupt me for no reason when I'm watching or listening to something. Especially if I have headphones in. Can't you see I'm busy??? I'm 100% the kind of person that aggressively pauses my show until they're done.

5. What's the first thing you ate today? Toast! With marmite on.

6. What makes you laugh? A lot. It's not hard. But puns and bad jokes are especially a huge weakness of mine.

7. Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what? If I do, it must be really well hidden...

8. What's your zodiac sign? Does it fit your personality? I'll be honest, I have no idea about zodiac stuff. It's not something that interests me So I'm afraid I can't answer.

3. Favourite show? J-just one??! Voltron Legendary defender has to be my all time favourite, at the moment at least. But I also love shows like Scorpion, marvel's Gifted, miraculous ladybug, full metal alchemist and Teen titans.

5. Video game you last played? Monster Hunter.

6. Can you do a weird talent? Not that I can think of. What would even class as weird?

7. Tennis shoes or sneakers? Uh oh. I uh... what's the difference??

10. What is your favourite hobby? Gaming. As much as I love drawing, it does sometimes get stressful, especially if it isn't working out how I want it too. Gaming is my stress relief and always fun~

11. Is there a store you go to frequently? I'm very introverted, and shops are sooooo stressful for me. I do all shopping online if I can! But I make exceptions for certain comic book, game and merch shops.

1. Movies that had a great impact on you as a child - you know the ones you vividly remember watching as a kid? There are so many! Eldorado, Sinbad, Osmosis Jones and all the pokémon films really come to mind though.

2. What is your occupation? Or what do you want to do as a career? Tell me about it! My actual job is pretty boring, so I'll talk about my dream job instead! I've always wanted to be in game design. I love designing characters, and I would LOVE to be on a team that creates concept art for games.

3. Spinning rides or up and down rides? I get motion sickness really easily... But having said that, I love spinning rides for as long as I can enjoy them without feeling ill.

4. What is the most neat place you've ever visited? Would you live there? I haven't really travelled much, even within my own country. But I've been to Newcastle a few times to visit family, and I do love it there. I don't think I'd live there though, I'm a country girl and I think the city would overwhelm me too much after the novelty wore off.

5. How did you find your current fandom? My uncle watched Voltron before I did, when it first came out. We're really close and have similar tastes so when he got excited about it, I was definetly interested! I  kept putting it off though, and it wasn't until I kept seeing it on Tumblr through miraculous blogs I follow that I eventually watched it, only a month or two after my uncle did.

6. What's the hottest wing sauce you've ever eaten? I don't really know, sorry! But I do like spicy food.

7. What's the fic/art you've always wanted to write/draw but haven't gotten to for any reason. Oc? Original story? Tell me all about it! Oooh boy. I am ALWAYS coming up with story ideas. I have an entire universe of stories that I've wanted to write and draw since I was 13! I've got entire timelines and realities planned out, and even every single side character has concept art!

My favourite story of mine at the moment is probably Thieves Heart. It's so much fun to draw! And I love coming up with new ideas for it. I even love the designs I have for my main characters, Kyrad and Chiel, which is a rarity.

Kyrad is a thief because it's his family business.

Chiel is a thief because she loves the thrill of it all.

They keep crossing paths, and while Chiel adores the competition and might have a growing crush on her newfound rival, Kyrad isn't so keen. He'd much rather steal in peace.

He does have his eye on a cute but sassy civilian though, and has no idea she's actually the very same thief stealing all his hauls!

There's so much more I could say, amd although I really want to enthuse about all of my stories, its kind of nerve wracking and I also know that once I start, you literally can't shut me up. I get carried away easily...

I do keep toying with the idea of starting a webtoon, but my own lack of confidence holds me back I think.

8. Comfort food. if there is one snack/meal that is your go to- what is it? Maybe it's a drink? Any kind of hot food including rice, noodles or soup works for me. It could be my mum's chicken soup, it could be instant ramen. It depends a lot on my mood.

9. One person you really look up to as a role model. It's... really hard choosing just one person. I can't choose only one from my family, so I'll have to go for a friend of mine instead. She's a good 10 years older then me, but age doesn't matter. She's such a dear friend and I don't know what I'd do without her! She's helped me through so much. She has a lot of the same issues I have, and seeing how strong and amazing she is really inspires me. She's helped me with my anxiety in such a huge way, and if I could be a fraction of the person she is I'd be so happy. I want to help people like she's helped me through my problems. ❤

10. Favourite colour combination? Maybe pastel blue and silver?

11. What is your favourite outfit? That one clothing combination that makes you feel hip or comfortable or both. Just jeans and my Star Labs hoodie. My hoodie especially is my favourite piece of clothing and is so comfortable, it's baggy, it's soft and warm. I miss it every time it goes in the wash!
