My hopes for the fallout TV show are not high.
Enough time has passed for me to talk about this in full since my thoughts have had time to solidify. As you probably know images (w/ descriptions) for the fallout tv show and the trailer itself released a few days ago. So I'll start with the good because this is primarily going to be a doompost rant afterwards. 1. The Sets, Costumes, Make-up, Props, Atmosphere, All of it is AMAZING. it looks GREAT. If the only metric to judge this on were those alone then this would be an easy 8/10-10/10. 2. I like the music used it fits fallout and its cool in the trailer. 3. theres a dogmeat in it thats cool theres always gotta be one of those its tradition 4. They thankfully seem to be doing away with the fallout 4 "trapped in the 50s" garbage they went with judging off the footage of the bombs dropping they showed.
Tumblr media
And thats about it for my praises. Because this looks like it's going to be a lore dumpster fire. So lets start with the issues 1. This takes place in LA, California. You must be aware what other fallout properties all took place in that general sort of area.
Tumblr media
and from those games theres a very important faction completely absent from these trailers. The NCR is completely fucking missing. I have had no luck finding any traces of them despite the fact people have posted pictures of their flag in the background of some shots I can not find it. The fact the NCR is just gone is a very bad sign. Maybe if I'm to be optimistic the reason is because they want to attract fallout 4 fans so they just showed the stuff from that game? 2. The Brotherhood of Steel. They just should not be on the west coast. They're an east coast faction with their remnants in the west being weak and scattered. They should not have an entire armed paramilitary force at the ready with somehow a second prydwin and I know it isn't the prydwin from fo4 its like some sister ship that happens to look exactly the same somehow. Which is a whole other can of worms because iirc they made the prydwin out of the remains of the enclave mobile base they sieged in the fo3 post game. 2b. The Brotherhood seems to be breaking their very own rules and lore. Now I want you to look at this image;
Tumblr media
Off the bat nothing seems wrong with it, right? That guy in all black is a squire. Accompanying a knight. If they're just apart of a group then fine but these two ranks should not be put together if the squire is working under the knight. The brotherhood's entire chain of command is EXTREMELY important with the only times its ever broken are exceptions for the player themselves. Incase you're a normal person who just blew up their bunker in nv; The Brotherhood's chain of command is basically: "You can only command those one rank directly below you and only take orders from someone directly above you." So the elder can only command paladins and paladins only command knights ect. This is so important you can get exiled for breaking this rule. 3. Mutant Overseer in a control vault.
Tumblr media
I doubt I need to explain why this makes no sense. 4. This is JUST megaton. Why is it in LA?
Tumblr media
It could turn out to be really good but it seems like they only played fallout 4 and maybe skimmed a wiki cause there seem to be quite a few contradictions to the main franchise especially since this isn't an AU, this is CANON to the mainline universe.

oops wrote drabble from this new verse i love that perrin is self aware and he loves arcade so much and they could have gotten together earlier! like. 12 years earlier.
perrin had seen these moments before, when he was younger. ones that meant he could no longer reload earlier save files. they were rare. he could have returned to the tunnels. he could have gone back to before his top surgery. but he couldn't go back to denying who he was, for example.
but as he looked at arcade, the two young adults shaking a little, arcade asking quietly if perrin could follow, perrin felt it. the boneyard was quiet, they were on the edge, perrin by his bike.
his choice here would change everything.
for one of those rare moments, it mattered. his expression darkened, and he saw arcades' face tremble more.
would he follow arcade, and stay a bit longer, settling in with this charming doctor? or would he ride off into the freedom of not being tied down, not having to find a home only to lose it again? say goodbye, or let himself try this out...?
perrin closed his eyes, and let out a big sigh. "Arcade..."
> if he chose to stay, he would find out about the enclave remnants and would keep their secret. remain a wanderer, a courier.
> he would, in exchange, mention that his mentor, his family, is the chosen one. a lot earlier then the gift fic i got from my friend. only arcade gets to visit ananta, though. for the sake of those whove settled.
> they both get married and have a ceremony with each of their families. perrin wears two rings, as does arcade.
> but perrin still works as a courier. gives him a reason to listen in on what the ncr is doin' and if they've been found. and so nv still happens! perrin rocking back up to arcade after being killed and telling him everything.
> arcade also knows about the divide. and how it burns perrin up. thus he lets perrin do lr alone. but he ends up dragged along to the other dlcs, somehow surviving.
this is a solo courier verse unlike perrins main verse. but has similar end goal of perrin being a travelling author and also doctors without borders.

2023 Writing Wrap-Up
Current count for 2023: 72 different works, plus 27 Fannish 50 posts, for 99 total. About half the Fannish 50 posts are fics already listed. (and then I see farther down "several prompt fills" listed as 1 item, so, more than 100, let's just say 100+)
Many works would be considered multi-chapter, some are one-shots. Many are exploring an idea without worrying about publishing them, just seeing where it goes.
(For an extra fun game, ask me about a specific one! I am aware that I use initials a LOT in here. I know this will make it hell for me in a year or two)
Under the cut because listing 72 different items, broken out by type/genre, is a long post. And I'm not even breaking out the Fannish 50 posts.

If you don’t mind me asking, but what is the twin’s relationship to dirk in the fallout au? Are they directly related? I almost can’t imagine dirk willing to leave his siblings alone even if they can defend for themselves.
OKAY SO
the original plan for the fallout AU was actually very different and was going to be a Two Plots Running style fic like KTOWL was. in plot A, ranger karkat and the twins, yep, but midway through, rose was the one to be kidnapped, not by Gomorrah but by the Chairmen (leaders of the Tops).
In Plot B, Jake filled the role of Benny, head of the Chairmen, while Dirk was Courier Six. Benny shoots Dirk in the head, but he Gets Better, and manages to chase Jake down. At that point, Jake reveals that he's looking to take over the Strip by getting access to an old Enclave bunker hidden in the Mojave, and that he needed the package Dirk was carrying to open it, as well as someone from the lost Enclave. Dirk takes the package back (i hadn't nailed down what it was going to be, not a Chip like in canon) and says they're both going after the Enclave bunker.
Back in Plot A, Dave breaks into a ranger outpost to hang out there until Karkat shows up. (They let him out of his cell and he plays a showy Vegas card dealer for them and teaches everyone blackjack. When Karkat shows up, they're like "This one yours, Cancer?" and he's like "SIGH. YEAH.")
Dave then explains that Rose had been kidnapped by some checkered suit motherfuckers and he needs someone to track 'em. Karkat agrees to help, and they set out following the trail of anyone in a Tops suit. Before long, Karkat hears tale of Jake, and the plots start to intertwine, with group A and group B always JUST missing each other.
Karkat spends a long time thinking that Rose was taken bc she's a Forecaster so presumably she can get the kidnappers something with her powers. When the trail brings them to an Enclave bunker, Dave is like "oh. uh. that explains it. rose and i were uh born in Navarro. like, pre-NCR Navarro." and karkat is like "you're ENCLAVE? you're fuckign ENCLAVE?" and dave is like "babe, no one is Enclave anymore. why did you think they wanted Rose?" "because she's fucking psychic?" "wait..... you BELIEVED US? you think rose is PSYCHIC?!" "shut up." "karkat holy shit you are the EASIEST mark of all time."
and then the two plots were gonna combine but I didn't have a good resolution.
ANYWAY THAT'S WHY DIRK IS NOT IN THE FIC BEYOND A MENTION. /jazzhands
ETA: SEE THAT'S THE BRICK JOKE. THEY DID ACTUALLY LIE ABOUT BEING TRAGIC VEGAS ORPHANS. THAT WAS THE JOKE!

NCR take that's pretty much how I feel? Opinion Tolerated. Okay joking aside, good takes! I personally enjoy the Enclave CONCEPTUALLY, but ive only really experienced Alot of lore videos and 76's enclave who are all Dead as Fuck, what are your thoughts on smaller groups like Mr House, the Gunners, The Great Khans and stuff? Basically all Not Great factions to choose from but, feel free to talk about any others that come to mind!
You know I meant to have The Great Khans in that last post but I totally forgot?
The Great Khans: Ok so I think it's fair to call them a a raider tribe yeah? I think they're like... the most respectable I guess? Like they're drug runners but they're probably the iteration of the clan so far? There's a lot shit that they've pulled and probably will pull that is more than just a little problematic lmao but they're not the fucking vipers at least.
The Boomers: Honestly, gotta respect a group that's whole identity is "We have big explosives please leave us alone." They could really be a much more dangerous group if they actually gave a shit about fucking with other people but they don't really mind as long as people just don't bother them which is a rare thing for most groups.
Mr. House: aka the side I always pick in New Vegas. If I'm playing as myself in New Vegas I do not trust myself to keep peace in that place so fuck it, House has his own intentions but whatever let him do with it what he wants. He's like Elon Musk if Elon actually did anything and didn't have an ego you could break by looking at it run. I doubt that House is really going to fix the world like he wants to, but fuck it maybe he'll get SOMETHING done.
The Gunners: Do these fuckers really have ANY idea what they're doing? They're like... a weird mix of military role players, raiders, and mercenaries, and somehow fail at being ANY of those??? They really only manage to secure places because they have decent guns but the second someone with either slightly better weapons, or a fucking brain shows up they're absolutely fucked.

Elevated Extras: Ranger Ghost Companion
You a Courier? If so, this might be your lucky day...if you don't mind walking a bit and your eyes are good.
(Original sketch by @tarberrymentats / based on the OC Companion Meme by @falloutfandomeventhub / if you borrow this concept please tag it as #fallout elevated extras)
General
Name: Ranger Ghost
Location: Mojave Outpost
How to obtain: Complete the sidequest “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize,” then begin the sidequest “Giving Up the Ghost” to get her reassigned from the Mojave Outpost. Once freed of her assignment, she can travel with the Courier to monitor Legion activity throughout the Mojave.
Companion Quest: “Giving Up the Ghost.”
Ranger Ghost, like everyone else, is sick and tired of being stuck at the Mojave Outpost. Unfortunately, orders are orders. With the courier’s help, though, she just might be able to come down from that rooftop, but dealing with NCR bureaucracy might be a worse ordeal than Legion crucifixion.
Companion Wheel
I think we should travel together. You probably can’t tell, but that’d make me very happy. Let’s get the hell out of here.
Let’s talk about your tactics. Sure. Lecture the ranger on tactics. Go ahead. / What’re you thinking?
I want you to change your combat style. (humoring) Alright. / If you insist.
Use a melee weapon. Close combat, then. / Sure. We can hold their hands and tuck them in while we’re at it. / (Wild Wasteland Enabled) Try to remember the basics of CQC.
Use a ranged weapon. (stating the obvious) It’s what I do. / You going to spot for me? / (deeply sarcastic) Aww. Finally remembered I’m a ranger?
Be passive. Sure, give peace a chance. / Don’t go pacifist on me, now.
Be aggressive: Locked and loaded. / (mocking the company line) Right, and with “extreme prejudice.”
Enough about tactics. Agreed. Anything else? / Are we good, then?
Let’s talk about how close you’re following me. Is there a problem? / What are you...implying, exactly?
Wait here. Right. Things to do, places to be? / Holding down here. / I’ll keep watch here.
Follow me. Let’s roll out. / Finally. Don’t like waiting. / Right. Skip to my fucking lou.
Stay close to me. (sternly cautious) Define “close.” / Got it, on you. / Just don’t bump my gun.
Keep your distance. Positioning, got it. / Yeah, covering you. / (facetious concern) Don’t get lost, now.
Let’s trade equipment. Don’t get fucking handsy, now. / Just don’t hog the ammo.
(Overburdened). I’m not your fucking pack brahmin. / (exasperated) I’ve only got so many pockets.
(Sneaking). Staying low. / (wryly imperative) Quiet, now.
(In Courier’s iron sights). What the fuck is wrong with you? / (slowly, emphasizing) Watch your trigger discipline. / Don’t make me take that away.
(Courier lays mine). I’ve got my eyes on that. / You’d better have a plan for that.
It’s time for us to part ways. It’s because i’m a bitch, isn’t it. / Such sweet fucking sorrow, I bet.
I’d like you to go to the Lucky 38. Hm. Sending the Ghost to the haunted house. See you there. I’ll try not to spook the Securitrons.
We can meet again at the Mojave Outpost. (sucks teeth) Guess I’ll report what I’ve got back to headquarters. Hopefully by now they’ve got someone else watching the brahmins shit full-time.
Injured: (seething) SSShhit. / Didn’t want it like this. / (with conviction) I didn’t get off that roof just to fucking bite it.
Damaged Limb: (shout of pain) Fucker clipped me! / Sure could use a fucking medic.
Regaining Consciousness: What...what the hell happened? / (trailing off) Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck...
Death: (death rattle) / (weakly) Ghosts...can die, huh...ha...
Attributes
Aggression: Aggressive.
Confidence: Brave.
Assistance: Helps friends and allies.
Karma: Neutral.
Perks
Ghost of a Chance: When Ranger Ghost is by your side, so are the odds. In addition to gaining an extra 3% chance to critically hit, any single attack that would kill you may instead leave you just barely alive and invulnerable for a brief moment..
Drops, if killed
Ranger Vest Outfit
Ranger Grey Hat
Authority Glasses
Cowboy Repeater
Combat Knife
Iguana Bits
Grognak the Barbarian
Dialogue, Quest Details, and Ending Slides:
Dialogue
Why do they call you Ghost? What, don’t I scare you? Boo? Nothing? (beat) Well, if you gotta know, it stuck pretty quick back in basic. Not like there were many other albinos in boot camp. The all-white spooky bitch who shoots better at night? Yeah, that’s a ghost, alright. Pissed me off at first, but I came around when it started giving privates the heebie-jeebies. Just a little kick, is all.
What’s an albino? Albinism is a pigment disorder. You know, the color of your skin and hair? As in I don’t have color. Pale as a sheet.
[Medicine 35] A sharpshooter with albinism? Isn’t your vision affected? Done your homework, huh? Well, these big, bad sunglasses aren’t just for intimidation, doc. They only come off when I sleep. Sucks enough being photosensitive in the goddamn desert, but like I said. I’m a lot better at night.
What’s your real name? (the thousandth time she’s answered this exact question) If I told you that, I’d have to kill you.
Aw, come on. Curiosity killed the courier. Don’t push it.
[Speech 40] I’m just trying to understand my partner better. Then “understand” that I don’t owe you shit except loyalty. Just call me Ghost, and you’ll get that.
[Cherchez La Femme] Surely you’ve got a name to match that lovely personality. (flustered) Are you d-...I-...Yeah, I do.But you can just keep calling me Ghost. (quietly) For...for now.
What’s the deal with Ranger Jackson? Man hasn’t got a thought in his fucking head...which is why he’s such a good C.O., from the top down. He’s a nice enough guy on a good day. He’s...principled, for sure. But the man wouldn’t budge on an order from brass if it’d save his life. Stranded caravaneers get so bored and restless because of the impasse he’s overseeing that he’s started (excessive emphasis) “hiring” the rowdier ones for odd jobs off the grounds, which is why we’ve been “losing” supplies for a while. Gets shit done, I guess, but wish he’d show half that drive when bitching to HQ, but no. They tell him to sit tight, he says yes sir, and then he takes it out on us when we get frustrated at the frustrating bullshit.
Do you know Major Knight? (standoffish) Yeah. Good guy. Known him a while. Hell, he’s been at M.O. longer than I have.
What does he do? Repairs, mostly. With all the caravans backed up, we sort of have a monopoly on maintenance and upkeep. And believe me, he does damn fine work.
[Confirmed Bachelor] Is he...you know…? Is he...oh. Between you and me? Yeah. He and I are...alike. I mean, I’m the bitch everybody hates, so I don’t really give a shit, but beneath that…(thinking how best to describe him, ribbing him a bit)...accountant exterior of his, he’s really the soft, sensitive type. Needs someone to talk to sometimes. I’m that someone, sometimes, but if you get the chance...it’d do him good just to know he’s not that alone out here.
How can I best use your skills? Hard to find a way that’d be worse than all the wasted time at M.O., but I’ll make it easy for you: give me a target and let me shoot it. If it’s too close to shoot, I’m trained in hand-to-hand, and if it’s too far to shoot, it’ll never see me coming. Standard repertoire for a ranger.
What’s your opinion on the NCR? High enough to keep me enlisted, low enough to where I’ve got plenty to mock. We’re a good country, a damn good country. We’re the only real country actually left in the West. We’d be the best thing to ever crawl out of the bombed-out ruins of this war if it weren’t for all the bureaucratic bullshit, and the brass getting duller the higher you go. It’s all just song and dance and sloganeering to them out here. Whatever looks good on paper. They don’t give a shit what really happens to people out here, and if Caesar doesn’t kill us, that might. At least on the inside.
What’s it like being a ranger? Ranger training is the best, most brutal gauntlet this side of the Colorado. Hours and hours of days and days spent shooting, drilling, fighting, bringing the body to its breaking points, pouring blood and sweat just to get an inch past the wide-eye hopefuls who were always going to just wash out...and all of it just to stand on a fucking rooftop staring at ants and malnourished raiders on the interstate. I swear, if you gave headquarters a golden egg, they’d fucking cook it.
Were you at the battle of Hoover Dam? Was going to be, but believe it or not, I sat out sick. Got the fucking flu right before and was stuck at McCarran the whole time, half-lucid. Let me tell you, the whole tent of coughs and sneezes crowding around that radio, listening to the reports...when Hanlon ordered that retreat out of Boulder City, we were grabbing our rifles and getting ready to march out on foot, even if we could barely stand. We thought that was it. Of course, it wasn’t, and we cheered so loud when they radioed about the explosion that I hope Caesar damn well heard it.
Do you wish that you had been there? Of course I do. If I miss the next one because I’m stuck at the Outpost or some shit, I’m deserting with a dozen fed-up caravaneers to flank his fucking fort myself, if only for some goddamn excitement.
How do you feel about the Legion? Love ‘em. Joined the NCR because I just wanted to meet them that bad. Their new Legate’s such a heartthrob, I hear.
You’re not serious. (sucks teeth, deep sigh) Look. You saw Nipton. It was just a taste of what they do. I’ve seen good men die on crosses, and that’s a mercy compared to the good women. I hear when women sign up now, they get about five extra “are you sures?” from recruiters. Not officially, of course. Brass would never let people back home know how bad it is. But it’s just another thing that makes me glad I’m a sniper, sometimes. Engage at range. Out of reach.
What about Legion society? Do you know anything about life across the river? There’s nothing across that river. Nothing. (beat, pondering) Do you remember the Enclave War? Bitter, bloody, big explosion at Navarro? And the Brotherhood campaign out here? Even worse of a shitshow, but still, we won that out, too. But the Enclave and the Brotherhood at least stood for something. They were societies, or at least promises of one, and if things had shaken out the other way for the NCR at least something would still be standing here. The Legion isn’t like that. They aren’t “something.” They’re one big razor across Arizona, shaving everything down. And if we don’t stop them here, we never will.
What about their Legate? (with contempt) Lanius, “The Monster of the East.” Caesar must’ve plucked him out of hell or something after his first legate blew it at Hoover Dam. Word from recon is that the only reason we’re all still twiddling our thumbs there is that he’s out making friends for Caesar someplace, and he’ll be bringing them all back for a whole ‘nother goddamn jamboree soon. (tension broken by a funny thought; spoken dryly) Or should I say a Damboree. Since it’d be at the Dam.
Do you know anything about Mr. House? No. Closest I’ve ever been to the Strip has been McCarran, where I was too proud to get wasted on expensive booze in the casinos. As punishment, I got stuck with nothing to do but get shitfaced on cheap booze at the outpost. All I know is Mr. House runs the whole Strip himself, and there’s one casino, the Lucky 36 or something, that’s supposed to be all his. No one’s allowed in, no one’s ever come out. Frankly? Just strikes me as fucking weird.
Companion Quest: Giving Up the Ghost
After completing the sidequest “Eyes On the Prize” (in which the Courier checks Nipton for survivors), Ghost will remark that the Mojave’s going to hell, and all she can do is sit and watch. The Courier will reply that she ought to stop watching and travel with them, to which she’ll respond that her orders are absolute—but if the courier can change her orders somehow, she’d be indebted. The quest then begins.
= = = Stage 1: Deal with Jackson = = =
First, the Courier must speak to Ranger Jackson and convince him to consider Ghost’s reassignment. They can do this through the following dialogue options:
[Speech 80] This outpost is just waiting to be overrun by Legion. You’ll be the next Nipton unless you’re proactive.
[Speech 55; completed “Can’t You Find It In Your Heart” beforehand] Maybe I could tell your superiors about where I “found” these “lost” supplies, then.
[Barter 80] Ghost is an exceptional asset to the rangers. Stationing her here is a waste of valuable NCR resources.
[NCR Fame] There’s work to be done for the NCR out there, and Ghost is who I trust to do it with me.
[Black Widow] I’ve ways of making men come around...especially handsome men in uniform. (The Courier must then sleep with Ranger Jackson)
Note that the Courier can not simply complete the quest “Can’t You Find It In Your Heart?” as a favor to Jackson for Ghost’s reassignment. While he’ll let a caravaneer go, it’ll take more than clearing some ants from the road to get him to compromise his standing force and let go of a ranger.
Alternatively, Jackson’s death will advance the quest.
Kill Jackson. Similar to Cass’ companion quest, Jackson can simply be killed. However, Ghost is far less sympathetic to this course of action and will confront the Courier over the murder. If Jackson is simply killed, the Courier will either need a convincing alibi [Speech 90] to argue that they weren’t responsible or admit to the murder. If the Courier fails the Speech check or admits to the murder, Ghost will turn hostile (“Maybe you didn’t fucking think this through, but do you know what we call someone who kills an NCR ranger? An enemy of the NCR rangers. Now, eat shit.”). Alternatively, the Courier can intimidate Ghost into silence with a [Terrifying Presence] option, after which a shaken but seething Ghost will simply ask the Courier to leave the outpost and never come back. Passing the Speech check is the way to not fail the quest from this option.
Kill Jackson and frame Cass. If the Courier kills Jackson themself, attempting to loot Jackson’s body will trigger a message suggesting that they could frame Cass for the murder by splashing whiskey on the body (so long as Cass is not currently the player’s companion and is currently at the Mojave Outpost, not the Lucky 38). By adding a whiskey bottle to Jackson’s body without themself or the body being discovered in the meantime, they can successfully implicate Cass for the murder, and explain as much to Ghost. She’ll buy it, since Cass was one of the most frustrated residents of the outpost and was drunk almost all the time. Cass will then disappear from the game, and if Lacey, Major Knight, or Ghost (if the Courier left the outpost before speaking to her again) are asked, they will explain that Cass was arrested by the NCR.
Have someone else kill Jackson. A desperate, fed-up caravaneer named Paul by the brahmin pens is willing to kill Jackson for 5,500 caps. This price can be negotiated down to 4,000 with a [Barter 60] check, and 3,500 with [Barter 75]. At midnight that night, Paul will attempt to sneakily kill Jackson. Alternatively, Paul can be incensed into attacking Jackson immediately and for free with a [Hot Blooded] trait check. In either case, though, there is no guarantee that Paul will succeed, and if Paul is killed then the Courier must advance the quest another way (though they can loot their spent caps from Paul’s body). When spoken to afterwards, Ghost will remark that she saw the Courier speaking to Paul and ask if they had anything to do with it. By passing a [Speech 50] check, the Courier can convincingly lie that they were trying to talk him out of it. With either the [Black Widow] or [Cherchez la Femme] perks, the Courier can lie and say that Paul very foolishly did it to try to impress them. With [Low Intelligence] the Courier can earnestly say that they thought “taking care” of Jackson meant doing something nice for him.
Somehow allow Jackson to die. If Jackson just somehow dies in an unaccounted way, such as from a spawned-in deathclaw eviscerating him in his own office, Ghost will remark on the strangeness of the situation but won’t blame the Courier. This is a failsafe option to prevent quest breakage.
= = = Stage 2: Find a Replacement = = =
If Jackson is alive, he’ll agree with the Courier that he ought to let Ghost go, but he’s still under orders to maintain a standing force at Mojave—a standing force which includes a highly trained sniper. If Jackson has been killed, Ghost will mention that Major Knight is next in command and would be glad to give her clearance, but that he won’t be able to do so without a replacement sniper, either. Either way, the Courier is tasked with finding a suitable replacement. The Courier can ask her for advice:
Who should I look for to be your replacement? They have to be NCR, obviously. Ex-NCR might work, too, so long as they’re in good standing. Any Dick or Jane off the road is a no-go, since brass put the kibosh on officially contracting mercenaries. Oh, and anyone you get would have to be well-trained. Not necessarily a ranger, but good enough to replace one, even for a sit-on-the-shitter job like this. Only the best and brightest get to stare at this fucking road all day, apparently.
Where should I look for your replacement? If you checked out some of the ranger stations around the Mojave, they might be able to move some people around. Hell, take it all the way to McCarran if you want, or with Hanlon. If you’re going to give them shit on my behalf, by all means, go nuts. A lot of higher-ups can be greased with enough favors, anyway. Whoever you get just needs the right credentials. Legion attacks get dragged asses and twiddled thumbs, sure, but bad paperwork would set a goddamn fire at headquarters.
The following characters can be recruited as the Mojave Outpost’s new watch:
A generic ranger. By speaking to the commanding officers of at least three of the NCR ranger camps across the Mojave with sufficient [NCR Fame], the Courier can speak to Chief Hanlon to arrange for Ghost’s replacement with a generic ranger. This option is impossible if “Return to Sender” has already been completed.
Craig Boone. If the Courier has completed “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” in a way that makes Boone repentant over his past, he can be persuaded to take over Ghost’s position as a good way to put his skills to use. Otherwise, he will refuse, either preferring to stay in Novac where he lived with Carla or not wanting to be stuck as a watchman again when he could be out killing Legionnaires. If selected, Boone’s home marker will change from Novac to the Mojave Outpost.
Manny Vargas. Novac’s other sniper can be convinced to take up Ghost’s post, but only if the Courier has completed “One For My Baby,” “Come Fly With Me,” and eradicated the Legion presence from Nelson. Once convinced that Novac seems safe, for now, he’ll be willing to reenlist if paid a generous salary. The Courier can either pay Manny 5,000 caps to reenlist now, pass a [Barter 65] check to explain that it’s a provisional reenlistment and reduce their bribe to 3,000, or if the Courier has already passed the [Confirmed Bachelor] check in dialogue with Knight, they can tell Manny about the cute little major sitting behind the desk all day there by his lonesome. Once convinced, Manny will relocate to the Mojave Outpost and take Ghost’s place.
Bryce Anders. This keen-eyed ranger can be recruited to Ghost’s position if he is rescued from the Vault 3 Fiends by the Courier. Once spoken with in Camp McCarran, the Courier can explain that the Mojave Outpost needs a new ranger stationed there. He will defer to Colonel Hsu’s authority on reassignments, and with a successful [Speech 60], [Medicine 40], or [NCR Fame] check, Hsu will agree to the reassignment on the grounds that it’s a useful position still sedentary enough to not complicate the ranger’s recovery.
Little Buster. The listless bounty hunter at Camp McCarran is looking for another career path and would be willing to take over Ghost’s do-nothing position. However, the only way to recruit him is to fabricate both credentials and enlistment records by either stealing personnel files from either Colonel Hsu’s office at Camp McCarran or from the filing cabinets at Camp Golf, or speaking to Daniel Contreras, who “knows a guy” who’ll take care of it if the Courier has already acquired access to Contreras' expanded inventory by siding with him in the unmarked quest “Dealing with Contreras.”
Private Halford. The sole survivor of Camp Guardian mentions that he wants to head back home through Mojave Outpost after being rescued from the mirelurk caves, at which point the Courier can mention no one is allowed to leave through there, and ask if he’d like to take Ghost’s position there instead. At first he’ll refuse, but with a [Speech 45] or [NCR Fame] check he can be convinced that a quiet, do-nothing watch assignment would be a lot better than anything else after what happened at Camp Guardian, to which he’ll agree. He will also relocate to the Mojave Outpost after being freed anyway, getting stuck like everyone else so that the speech check can be re-attempted. However, Halford isn’t considered well-trained enough for a ranger’s job. The Courier must speak to Jackson (or Knight, if Jackson is dead) and pass a [Speech 80] or [NCR Fame] check to make a strong endorsement, or a [Survival 55] check to explain how impressive it is that he survived an attack from so many mirelurks. Alternatively, the Courier can fabricate impressive enough credentials through the options required to assign Little Buster.
Once Ghost’s replacement has been assigned to the Mojave Outpost, the Courier only needs to speak to Ghost again. She will explain that she’s been “reassigned” to open patrol across the Mojave, ostensibly to track Legion activity, so long as she does so with the Courier. She also gains an additional dialogue option dependent on your choice of replacement:
What do you think of your replacement?
(Generic ranger) For this job? Any ranger’s as wasted as any other. I almost feel bad, I doubt she’ll like that fucking roof any more than I did...almost feel bad. Doesn’t quite cancel out the relief.
(Boone) First recon is one hell of a pull. Took right to it, too, like he was already used to it. Strikes me as the...quiet, contemplative type. Likes to think. Not much else to do up there, anyway. I bet those brahmin pins have never felt safer.
(Manny) First recon is one hell of a pull. Took right to it, too, like he was already used to it. Seems like a nice enough guy, and seems to be getting along with Major Knight. Hell, you love to see it.
(Bryce) A good man. Heard about what the Fiends did to him, and after all that, he certainly deserves a break. Didn’t think of this shit job as much of a vacation before, but seems like it’ll do him good.
(Buster) Not sure where the hell you found this guy, but if (Jackson / Knight) gave the okay, then...okay. I would’ve put a goddamn brahmin in a beret up there if it could have gotten me another assignment.
(Halford) The mirelurk guy? Yeah, he seems alright. I’ve never actually seen a mirelurk, but after hearing his story, I don’t think I want to. I didn’t even know we had a camp that far up there.
Speaking to Ghost after her replacement takes her position completes the quest, and from then on, she can now be recruited as a companion. However, similar to Boone, she will only remain the Courier’s companion if they maintain good reputation with the NCR, and as an active-duty ranger, her intolerance for anti-NCR actions is even more strict.
Ending Slides
If "Giving Up the Ghost” is started, but never completed:
NCR Victory. Ranger Ghost remained at Mojave Outpost, dutifully, thanklessly, and restlessly. When the rangers there received word that the Legion had made their move on the dam, the entire outpost went silent. Waiting. From her rooftop perch, at least she was the first to see the bearer of good news come up the road. In the moment, at least, it was worth everything to be there.
Legion, House, or Independent Victory. Ranger Ghost remained at Mojave Outpost, dutifully, thanklessly, and restlessly. When the rangers there received word that the Legion had made their move on the dam, the entire outpost went silent. Waiting. From her rooftop perch, she was the first to see the NCR’s retreat, as civilians and troopers alike began fleeing through the Long 15. She was right: this whole time, all she could do was watch.
Ghost is dead. Ghost, bitterly, died as she lived...(deep sigh) at the Mojave fucking Outpost.
If “Giving Up the Ghost” is completed:
NCR Victory: When legionnaires by the score descended upon Hoover Dam, Ghost was proud to have been one of the many rangers in the battle that kicked their shit in back across the Colorado. She celebrated with the rest of them, even a smile creeping onto her face every now and then. Still, Ghost returned to business before long, as part of a squad out East tracking down the straggling remnants of Caesar’s retreating Legion.
Legion Victory: Ghost was among the many rangers who fought at Hoover Dam, but when the army of legionnaires led by the Courier, to whom she owed her very presence there, proved unstoppable, she was ultimately among its many casualties. Their advance was too sudden, too overwhelming, for a clean evacuation, and a grisly duel with a centurion trapped her near the front. Still, the Legion never took Ghost alive. She made sure of it.
House or Independent Victory: The arrival of the Securitrons at Hoover Dam was a surprise to every NCR trooper stationed there, including Ghost. Their sudden turn against the NCR, and their allegiance to the Courier, even more so. The triumph of vanquishing the Legion was short-lived, then, as Ghost joined the forced retreat, one pale face in a sea of many.
Ghost is dead: Despite her name, there was no supernatural flourish when Ghost died. She simply died like a ranger, fighting to the end. That’s all that mattered.
(Bonus) Cass’s Ending Slide if the Courier frames her for the murder of Jackson:
Rose of Sharon Cassidy spent all of her time at the Mojave Outpost in a drunken stupor, which is why when Major Knight oversaw her arrest for the murder of Ranger Jackson, it took so long to get exonerated. By the time the alibi was pieced together and the evidence was admitted as circumstantial, the battle of Hoover Dam shifted NCR’s attention elsewhere, and the crime was never solved. For a few months in the clink, though, at least Cass got what she wanted: home, and finally away from the outpost.

who are your favorite characters/companions from fallout? who are your least favorite? favorite and least favorite factions? why?
(I apologize for my lack of judgement and knowledge on Fallout 3 and Fallout NV. I haven't done more than the basic playthrough and therefore dont have much know how on some of the finer things.)
Fallout 4:
[Favorite character] Its a fight between Danse and Gage. Danse is just fuckin adorable in my opinion, especially after Blind Betrayal, so that wins him a spot on the 'favorite character lineup'. Gage is just an emotionally stunted greasy raider with an accent, and that gives him all the points he needs to fall into the lineup as well. If someone had to fall into third place, it would probably be Maxson. Particularly cause he was so squishy and adorable in Fallout 3 and then got hit so hard by The Puberty Truck it gave the entire Brotherhood whiplash.
[Least favorite character] Mags just rubs me in the wrong way. Marcy also just made me wanna strangle her and toss her to the dogs. Sierra Petrovita gets on my nerves, too. Didnt like her in Fallout 3, dont like her in 4.
[Favorite faction] On terms of morality, the Railroad. They had the best moral compass(aside from the fuckin Minutemen, but we dont talk about them with all the fuckin claim a settlement and now those fools are your responsibility bs) and Deacon is hands down the funniest companion in my opinion. On terms of who I side with more often, the BoS. No real reason. The BoS was just the faction I stuck with on my first playthrough.
[Least favorite faction] (The fuckin Minutemen) The Institute. I stuck through it until the rooftop scene with Shaun and was like "just who tf do you think you are" and hightailed it back to the Brotherhood. I dont quite like the Brotherhood's morality, but meh. They give me cool power armour and some asses to stare at, so I'll let them live.
Fallout 3:
[Favorite character] Butch. He was such a little shit and I loved him for it. Second place is Jericho, hands down. I may or may not have a thing for greasy raiders. Mini Maxson falls into third place cause he was adorable. His little terminal entries were the best and I just cant see it with how he acts in Fallout 4.
[Least favorite character] The damn Overseer of Vault 101 was a prick. Other than him, I couldnt stand Moriarty. Like.. how dare you treat sweet Gob like that. Sierra Petrovita falls on the least favorite character list yet again.
[Favorite faction] BoS. I really haven't explored Fallout 3 as much as I have 4, so my Brotherhood bias strikes again. I do like the nodes to the Institute and the Railroad though.
[Least favorite faction] The fuckin Enclave had me foaming at the mouth my entire playthrough. Like.. how.. d a r e they. I also absolutely despise the Enclave cause their dudes killed Butch and Dogmeat so many times. I had a field day with all the reloading saves.
Fallout: New Vegas:
[Favorite character] Ring- a- ding ding, baby! You guessed it! Its Benny! He was such a little shit and I'm still salty that they didnt make him a companion like they intended. Boone is also a favorite. He was the companion that saved my sorry ass more times than I can count.
[Least favorite character] I haven't played very much of New Vegas, so i dont really have much of an output on characters I hate or dislike. I'll get back to this after I go through the game again.
[Favorite faction] NCR. Mainly cause of Boone. Other than that, no real reason.
[Least favorite faction] Legion. My deadass reason for hating the Legion is cause they made me kill Benny. I let him live for a reason! Leave the dumb one alone!

Kotor2 characters in Fallout
What can I say? Obsidian makes my favorite games.
The whole setting should be set sometime shortly after the events of Fallout 2, and the Enclave is defeated/scattered and the NCR is a rising power.
The EXILE: Has spent 10 years wandering the wasteland as an EXILE of the Brotherhood of Steel. They were expelled for mysterious reasons that somehow relate to the Brotherhood’s role during the NCR-Enclave War. Most likely, the Exile was ordered to do things that amounted to war crimes. They were expelled when they refused to follow the dictates of the Codex any longer. Highly charismatic and a natural born leader, the EXILE has been keeping a low profile for a decade.
Scribe KREIA: A mysterious Scribe of the Brotherhood of Steel. Once upon a time, she was an Elder of her own Brotherhood chapter, until there was a mutiny within the ranks - her own soldiers, Knight Paladin Sion among them, turning against her and going rogue. They betrayed her, saying she was too focused on old technology and wasn’t dealing with the coming NCR threat. During the conflict, she was blinded, but she has used OLD WORLD TECHNOLOGY to manufacture an augmented pair of artificial eyes that allow her to see through walls and read body language/biometrics with such accuracy that it’s as though she is reading your mind.  She is able to easily hack into systems/control robots. She has been missing for several years, after only barely escaping the attempt on her life. She has found the EXILE and is secretly manipulating them to kill the soldiers that betrayed her, in an elaborate revenge plot.
Atton, the MERC: AKA Lieutenant Jack Rand of the Enclave, the remnants of US Government. Born into the Enclave from a long line of CIA operatives, Lieutenant Rand had a change of heart and fled the Enclave just before their defeat. As the NCR becomes more powerful, Jack has changed his name to Atton and been keeping his head down. He drifts from place to place, working as a merc and sometimes a gunrunner/smuggler in the territories just outside the NCR. He’s deeply ashamed of his past and goes to great lengths to hide it from the Exile. Scribe Kreia knows his true past (she is able to hack into an Enclave dossier that shows his face and real name - along with all the horrible war crimes he committed during his time with the Enclave) and she’s blackmailing him.
Brotherhood KNIGHT BAO-DUR:  He has repaired an Eyebot, which follows him everywhere. A skilled mechanic and technician who has informally left the Brotherhood, in order to help the local people grow food and help them rebuild after the NCR-Enclave War. He lost his arm during the war, and with knowledge of robotics, he’s built himself a robotic arm. He’s constantly haunted by memories from the NCR-Enclave War, and he’s deeply concerned about the brewing tension between the Brotherhood and NCR. Still calls the Exile “sir/ma’am” and “General.”
T3-M4, the ROBOBRAIN: A ROBOBRAIN that has been helping the EXILE and is their loyal pal.
HK-47, the ASSAULTRON: Has a very particular set of skills, skills it has acquired over a very long career, and it never lets you forget about that.
Mical, the NCR MEDIC: Grew up in the Brotherhood of Steel. He was barely out of his pre-teens when the NCR-Enclave War ended, so he didn’t see much combat. After the war ended, Mical saw the Brotherhood as misguided and instead saw the New California Republic as the best hope for the future. When given the choice to leave the Brotherhood at 18, he took it and joined the NCR. He became an NCR soldier and was trained specifically as a medic. He often can be found scavenging through OLD WORLD RUINS in search for old books and holotapes that might provide valuable knowledge. Also, he is an NCR SPY who has been tasked to keep tabs on the Brotherhood. Atton hates him no matter what.
Mira, the BOUNTY HUNTER: She’s been hunting bounties for most of her life, preferring to stay in the big settlements in the NCR where the best contracts are, and has been running away from her previous life as slave kept by raiders. She has also been given a bounty to find KREIA and the EXILE, and bring them back dead or alive, which of course puts her in their path. Ends up joining them. She saved a crazed Nightkin super mutant named Hanharr, who hates humans, and he’s been trying to kill her ever since.
Visas Marr, the PSYKER: Blind, she wears an elaborate metal headdress, a device that stops her from going mad from her telekinetic powers. Abducted by the Enclave at a young age after they exterminated her entire village, they used her as a test subject for multiple brutal experiments.  Specifically, the Enclave wanted to test psychic abilities to see if they could utilize this against the NCR. After being injected with multiple drugs and being subjected to mental torture for years, she eventually developed telekinetic powers. However, the Enclave was destroyed and she was left alone, trapped in the testing facility where the Enclave was keeping her. Captured by Knight Paladin Sion and Paladin Nihilus when they raided the abandoned facility, she has been sent to find and kill the EXILE and KREIA. Of course, that doesn’t go as planned, and she joins them instead.
Canderous Ordo, the RAIDER: Brutal wasteland warlord who has a VERY warped code of honor. Despises the NCR for their weakness, sees the NCR as spreading weakness and allowing weak people to survive when they should just die in the wasteland, but he has some respect for individual NCR members who can prove their strength to him. Leads a large band of raiders.
The Handmaiden, the CIRCLE OF STEEL INITIATE: Part of the elite special operations team, she has been raised with her sisters to become assassins, specifically to “neutralize” anyone who breaks away from the ideals of the Brotherhood. Her first assignment is to find and kill the ROGUE SCRIBE Kreia. Unknown to her, KREIA is really her mother. Of course, things don’t go as planned because she herself is a little tired of the Brotherhood’s bullshit, and the Handmaiden joins the team.

Who wants to hear all my thoughts about the ending of FNV?
Or my ending, because the charm of that long ending was a lovely piece of personalisation
The funny thing is, even though Arcade was obv. fine my Courier couldn't be convinced of that; he had internalized a deep sadness that was not particularly in line with my delight with game at all. He stopped grinding for caps and just ate raw meat, took Boone on board as a companion just to never take him anywhere, failed to connect with Raul (Raul needs a post to himself lol), tried to connect with Veronica but just couldn't muster the heart, gave up on the Brotherhood quest about the time it looked like the fate of everybody in the bunker would depend on some goddamn laser pistol.
So he went off and shot his way into the NCR power station. They really should have guarded that better.
And from there it was straight to Hoover Dam...barring one brief and melancholic interlude at the Mormon Fort, asking them to stay. For Arcade's sake.
And then that crazy Courier went off to the Dam without so much as a stop to restock or sleep.
Earlier on, as a product of sheer boredom, I had bought out the entire stock of chems from the Omertas bar, which was a lifesaver. So was the power armor, which I kept on forever once I had it, so was the solitary Stealth Boy from the schoolhouse in Goodsprings. Even so ED-E died before I got into the control tower.
I looked at the message and I looked at Veronica and I just. Kept going.
It was so much easier crossing the river than I'd feared, though, with my killer robots picking off Legions that I could barely prick with Benny's gun (it's not an end game weapon? but I had pawned the others).
Then the Vertibird dropped and I had a protective bodyguard of everyone from the Enclave except for Arcade. I didn't know what happened, if the game couldn't handle a former companion following or if he was flying or what, but I cheated and looked and apparently he often ends up as toast if you haven't cleared West Vegas, which I super did not. Red Rock Canyon was burnt through with my penultimate Stealth Boy.
So anyway, it turns out that taking all the chems at once will fuck up your vision bad, and I mostly didn't die because of very high sneak and a protective bodysquad. Lanius went down so fast it felt like my Courier had been right all along, that Arcade had sold his soul out for a place in hell and a squad of angels to protect the future of New Vegas.
Otherwise known as the Courier.
And when the game informed me that I would have to take on the NCR and I thought about crossing that whole bridge again with Benny's pop pistol, could see the reason to that. A high speech high science underdeveloped Courier has no business being there alone.
Only Lee Oliver is apparently dumb enough to take on fights in person, and he died fast also. Womp.
And that was it. Somehow, despite doing it by the seat of my pants, the day was won. New Vegas stays independent. The towns I liked were okay. The Powder Gangers got to keep their base, Jacobstown flourished, the Followers of the Apocalypse were hard pressed but persistent, and Arcade got an ending freeze frame so much like a bad passport photo I was too busy laughing to focus on what it said. But it sounded good.
And boy, when Yes Man let slip that he had the makings of an incipient godhood personality in his last line, was I glad that the Brotherhood got Helios back to fry him and his killer robots from orbit if that ever seemed needed.
So all's well that ends, etc. And there is no end of more to keep me busy.
Perhaps not quite so obsessively tho.

I just found your New Vegas posts, and I sense a lot of hostility towards Lonesome road. Why?
The core problem with Lonesome Road is that it is, and I don’t say this lightly, the kind of writing I would expect from Bethesda.
Everything happens because the plot says so regardless of whether it makes any sense for the player to do, or in-universe. It tries to tell me how I feel, chastises me for decisions I did not make, and pokes holes in the worldbuilding. The whole narrative and its message rely on too many contrivances to make sense.
“This is your road. When you come, you’ll walk it alone.” The first area gave me a robot companion who follows me for the majority of the DLC and whom I regularly speak to… Wait, was that a pun about ED-E not having legs? I walk, but he floats?
Also, why can’t I bring companions to the Divide? In Dead Money and Old World Blues the Courier was kidnapped, then in Honest Hearts you travel as an employee of a caravan to the new location and they only have one opening. For Lonesome Road, you don’t bring backup because the plot says you don’t. That’s the justification of a lot of the DLC. Everything happens because that’s what happens.
“You had the option to turn back at any time, your refusal to do so put everyone at risk.” Bullshit, Ulysses had access to functional ICBMs and could probably have gone to get the components he needed if pressed. There are dozens of warheads lying around and he knows where the detonator is. Plus, he threatened that he would destroy the Mojave anyway, I wasn’t going to take that lightly and wouldn’t assume he was bluffing.
Even when I wasn’t aware Ulysses wanted components from ED-E, I knew he was tracking me through the robot (and also broadcasting annoying dialogue at me) so I would’ve left ED-E and gone on alone if that was an option. The game wouldn’t let me, because the plot said I had to bring him.
“The destruction around you is your fault.” I (supposedly) destroyed the Divide by accident. The guilt trip rings a little hollow coming from Ulysses, who wiped out New Canaan on purpose. He also nearly wrecked the entire wasteland by releasing the Think Tank and directed Elijah to the Sierra Madre, all of which are messes I had to clean up. Also, I’ve probably killed more people deliberately than I did at the Divide, I didn’t regret those, I’m not going to regret this.
“Ulysses will nuke the NCR if you don’t stop him.” I’m a Wild Card player who’s planning to transform New Vegas into high-tech development center by empowering the Followers of the Apocalypse with Enclave/Big Empty/Sierra Madre tech rather than continue Mr. House’s tourist economy. I don’t hate NCR, but cutting off their biggest supply line so they can’t invade would be doing me a favor, though I stopped the launch anyway because I want there to be less radiation in the world. Ulysses’ plan is based on my good standing with the NCR, and there’s no way to make it clear I’m not working for them, I’m working against the Legion.
“You should feel bad for your character’s role in destroying the society in the Divide.” What society? I couldn’t find any evidence of people living here prior to the nuclear detonations, only the Marked Men, who are all NCR or Legion soldiers, no locals among them. One of the ranger logs mentions a tribal society, that’s it. The only records were from before the war. The Tunnelers might be mutated humans who lived there, but it’s not clear, I thought they were mutant humanoid reptiles like the Lakelurks. Ulysses hates me for destroying a fledgling nation, one that was supposedly the hope of the wasteland, but I know nothing about it and my character doesn’t even remember. He just made up a complicated backstory about how important the Courier and the Divide were to each other, putting him somewhere on the intellectual level of Fantastic.
I’m serious. Please explain to me how “Before you… this is the edge of the Divide. Ahead lies your work, the history you burned in the earth. What you brought to the people here.” and “I read numbers. Sometimes I make up little stories in my head about what the numbers mean.” don’t convey similarly warped interpretations of reality.
“The Tunnelers are an imminent threat to the Mojave, even tougher than Deathclaws.” No, they aren’t. Maybe I’m just that unstoppable, but the Tunnelers were never a serious threat. As for being tougher than Deathclaws, the game mechanics make it clear they aren’t. Deathclaws can tank several hits from the toughest Tunnelers, whom they can easily one-shot at higher levels. The Tunnelers only killed a Deathclaw in a scripted event. And they definitely aren’t any worse than Cazadores. Those things actually can fight Deathclaws, I tested that out at the Thorn.
“The Divide will tear at you.” In Lonesome Road I had plenty of anti-rad drugs, could kill Rawr in two shots, and viewed the Marked Men more as walking sacks of cash than serious threats to the point I took it on at Level 2, making trips between the Divide and the Gun Runners to sell all the loot. The only part that gave me any trouble was that Deathclaw spawning outside a trailer after I entered it. I still killed it.
The Sierra Madre was worse, and developed more effectively from a gameplay perspective. I managed with the right perks and skills, but between the toxic cloud, invincible holograms, shielded speakers, the Ghost People’s resurrection ability, and the crushing weight of those gold bars, Dead Money was full of obstacles which could not be easily circumvented. Where LR tries and fails to convey a feeling of isolation because you have a friendly companion, DM punctuates its loneliness by forcing you to work with allies who would probably kill you if they could, and might try later. Y’all want challenge and danger until you get it.
“You have to sacrifice ED-E to stop the missiles. Can you bear killing him?” I absolutely can. ED-E is a copy of the Mojave ED-E, and the ending slides make it clear the Divide version transmitted all relevant data to the Mojave, something I expected to happen, so I stopped the missiles while losing nothing. There are no negative consequences for me. He’s fine.
“Stories spread of the battle between the two Couriers.” Told by who? Literally no one saw the fight and lived except the Courier. No one goes to the Divide, the Marked Men ain’t exactly chatty. Were there recording devices? Was ED-E transmitting everything? How does anyone else know what happened well enough for me to get a reputation boost? Also, the confrontation was over in seconds, fighting the Legendary Bloatfly was more intense.
“The Courier tore the ancient flag of the Commonwealth from its cables, and cast it over the corpse, though whether done as a sign of respect, or in anger for what had been endured to reach this moment - that is unknown.” No, I didn’t. I killed Ulysses with a .50 explosive round to the back of his head, looted his body, threw his remains down a missile silo, then tossed some frag grenades down after it because he was rude to my robot. His body was in chunks. I went back after the ending to check, it was still there. As for what had been “endured”, Ulysses did not inflict significant physical or emotional harm upon me. I lost exactly one hit point in the Courier’s Mile, you can do the math on how tough the rest was on me. Don’t ever imply I respect Ulysses.
The problem with Ulysses as a character is that he makes a lot of assumptions about me, my motivations, and how I work when New Vegas’s strength lies in providing a variety of options. Avellone wanted him to be the Courier’s antithesis, but there are so many choices you can make he ran into the problem of making Ulysses every Courier’s antithesis regardless of their faction, morality, personality, or skills, and he makes no sense as a result. You can’t have a character who’s opposed to both an evil low-intelligence legionary and a sneaky pro-independence member of the FoA. He’s just a pretentious dumbass who wants to blow everyone up.

So uh since that stupid little Tag Yourself post I made actually made more than 5 notes I’m gonna give a brief little intro with some random stuff abt each of the canon Fallout protags (under the cut) that I will ideally be expanding on in the future
“Odd” Cooper Callosa is my canon Vault Dweller. He was a janitor in the Vault, and not even a very good one at that. He was famous, or infamous, for the string of odd luck that would get him into, and then eventually out of, some strange situations- the quest for the water chip being the largest string of odd luck, of course. Being a Good Boy, he was probably easy to manipulate, as he was incredibly trusting of outsiders. That’s how he managed to get wrapped up with the Thieves Circle, after all (that and his natural sleight-of-hand skills). His scar becomes the Mark of Arroyo, being a memorable symbol to those who he helped in his youth. There’s still a lot of fleshing out to do with him, so I’ll probably revisit him over time to give him some more depth. I chose to go with Callosa because his journey involves him becoming tougher, or more calloused. Still, even after he’s forever cast out of Vault 13, he doesn’t lose himself to the Wasteland. He’s just rightfully bitter about the betrayal.
Yesfir Callosa is my canon Chosen One, but she was not the original. Her older brother, Taveen, was “destined” to be the Chosen One, but he failed the final test of the Temple of Trials. Yesfir, however, succeeded, and went on to claim the role and the quest it entailed. She claims to be no nonsense, but she seems to attract all shenaniganry in a 3 mile radius. She’s not as naive to the ways of the Wasteland, but she gets tricked from time to time by savvy folks. She favors sharp melee weapons, and even if she doesn’t use it toward the end of her adventure, she keeps the spear she left with as a reminder, if not as a trusty backup weapon. I haven’t finished her playthrough yet, so the exact details of her resolution and how she feels about it all are undecided. What IS important is that she can drive and should be allowed to kiss more ladies.
Hoshea Soltair is my canon Lone Wanderer. He isn’t one to stand by and let himself be pushed around or run away. He gets into a lot of fights because of it, much to his father’s dismay. While he dreamed of helping his dad and Jonas in the clinic, he winds up being the Vault’s Marriage Counselor (and general counselor). When he is more-or-less pushed into the Wasteland, he becomes something of a traveling doctor, making his semi-permanent home in Megaton for a few years. He punches his way through the Enclave without remorse, taking revenge on everything they did and tried to do. He would be personally responsible for driving (or stomping) out their influence on the Capital Wasteland over the next decade. Eventually, he leaves to find new places to help, or just somewhere to escape all the bad memories of the DC ruins. I chose Soltair because it’s reminiscent of Solitaire, the game that can be played alone, or just the word “Solitary”. Even though he doesn’t travel alone forever, it’s a recurring theme that the greatest battles he fights are often fought alone.
Lou Flick is my canon Courier 6. His past is revealed in pieces, because Benny’s bullet and the surgery to fix him up messed with his memories. It’s not all gone, but it’s harder for him to remember without certain stimuli (predominantly smells, which is a hard stimuli to assign to a lot of memories imo). He’s got a lot of trouble breathing because of certain injuries, mostly damage from smoke inhalation that he doesn’t know the details of, so he wears a modified rebreather to help him out. Fun fact: Lou Flick is not his real name. And the name he went before getting shot wasn’t his real name either. Another fun fact: he’s actually a descendant from the Callosa line, specifically traced back to Yesfir. I haven’t actually finished his playthrough either. Both he and I are torn on whether NCR or Independence is actually better for New Vegas. He doesn’t really agree with NCR, but he’s not confident in his ability (or Yes Man’s) to actually keep New Vegas safe. He just knows the Legion sucks and he will personally walk through No Man’s Land to stop them if he has to. Which he kinda does at one point.
Linda Pavesi is the canon Sole Survivor, insofar as she’s a Pre-War lawyer who was cryogenically frozen in Vault 111 for ~200 years before her husband was killed and her son Shaun taken. But once she left the Vault, saw the world, and realized how little was left of her home, she left the Commonwealth. I messed around with the canonical timeline for her. She was released ~20 years before the Quincy Massacre. When she left, she returned to her home- DC- only to find it in complete ruin as well. She did find that her parents were ghouls in the Underworld, so she stuck around and helped out where she could while still adjusting to the world. By the time Hoshea stumbles into the Ninth Circle, she’s already been out for a little under a decade. Seeing her struggles in him, she becomes something of a mentor and mother figure for him. She does occasionally slip up and call Shea Shaun, but doesn’t really talk about it. Not gonna lie, I just stole her last name from a site. No real significance to it :(
The canon Sole Survivor as far as the actual Fallout 4 plot is concerned is Russell Passerini, an equally Italian but notably younger teen who has no idea who Shaun is or why it’s important that he doesn’t. He grew up in the ruins but wound up in Goodneighbor when he was pretty young. Luckily, it was not too long after Hancock overthrew Vic and made the neighborhood… mildly less dangerous. He was a Railroad tourist for a long time, only becoming a Heavy after the Switchboard. He’s 17 in 2287. He kills Kellogg, finds Virgil, and manages to assemble the Molecular Relay, with the help of other ocs who I will maybe talk about in other posts. Passerini is the name I chose because his code name is Sparrow, a bird that belongs to the Passerine family. Pulled an Assassin’s Creed on him, giving him a bird themed last name.
My canon Reclaimer is Reyes Yamamoto. He was a barber/hair stylist who was, and still is deeply invested in bold hairstyles. Harder to actually accomplish that out in the Wasteland, but he still tries where he can. He was born in the Vault, so the Outside World wasn’t really his to lose in his eyes. He just wants to keep his family safe. He does this by wielding a rocket-powered hammer and throwing himself headlong into danger. He wasn’t really raised with Pre-War gender roles, and even if he was he would’ve rejected them. He’s a member of a small Reclaimer group called the New Reclaimers, who are just the kids of the original Reclaimers who go out and do the heavy field work. Reyes’ family is one of a few who have all compiled their resources to make a large, mobile CAMP city. He’s typically the one who encounters other Wastelanders, and while he’s not totally naive, it’s a good thing he doesn’t travel alone. He can be easily won over by particularly charismatic women (like Duchess).
I’ll probably make more overviews of non-protag characters (of each game if I have to) bc I have an addiction to creating dozens of ocs who all exist in the world at the same time.

Courier Six
Fallout New Vegas is my absolute favourite Fallout, because it’s fucking amazing. I only wish Obsidian had had longer to make it so they could flesh it out even further. The Legion don’t deserve to be the ‘straight up bad guys’ (especially when the NCR are so fucking hateful). And ED-E is my best friend ever. Here is some blurb about my Courier, Dolores. Name: Dolores Urquhart Nickname: Dolly, Aeris (Latin for Copper – Eye colour, hair colour being like verdigris.) Age: 28 Height: 5’7” Specials: STR 5, PER 5, END 7, CHR 8, INT 8, AGI 7, LCK 6
Eyes: Hazel Hair: Mohican, dyed teal Ethnicity: Caucasian Gender: Cis Female Body type: Athletic Sexuality: Bisexual Relationship Status: Friends with benefits/ Lovers Partner(s): FWB: Red Lucy, Jack (Great Khans) Lover: Vulpes Inculta. Family: Deceased. Mother (Jessica) & Father (Frank) were both Doctors (which is why Dolores is proficient in medicine). Dolores was 14 when they were murdered by raiders (looking for chems) that the NCR should have protected them against. No siblings or extended family.
Languages: English (first language), Spanish (asks Raul to help her become fluent) Disabilities/Illnesses/Injuries: Likely brain damage from being shot twice in the head by Benny. Multiple scars from injuries sustained whilst travelling. Scars: Forehead (left) scarring from when Benny shot her x2 and from Doc Mitchell’s surgery. Chest, head and spinal scarring from the Think Tank’s surgeries (the Auto-doc can only do it’s best to minimise these). Various limb & torso scars from buckshot & bullets, knife wounds to arms, scarring on knuckles from fist fights. Clothing: Regulator duster, Recon Armour, Stealth Suit MK II (the AI drives her mad and she is extremely grateful when Raul manages to silence it), Authority Glasses, Party Hat, Pre-War Spring Outfit, Sexy Sleepwear Fashion Style/Lifestyle: Wears Light armour to aid agility & movement, when relaxing likes to feel pretty (also likes to dress nicely for her lovers). Enjoys people’s reactions to wearing silly clothes especially if a situation is serious/tense. Weapon of Choice: Melee: Combat knife/Baseball bat. One handed guns: That Gun/A Light Shining in Darkness. Two-handed Guns: Hunting Shotgun/Sniper Rifle. Rarely uses Energy Weapons but likes Pew Pew. Doesn’t use Heavy Weaponry (she’s agile rather than strong). Skills: Proficiency with Repair, Lock-picking, Medicine, Speech. Has good endurance and athleticism (essential for Couriers). Will use Speech & charisma before resorting to violence. Weaknesses: Sarcastic, impatient, kleptomaniac Faction: Yes Man Friendly Factions: Caesar’s Legion. Due to relationship with Vulpes, she is able to trade with the Legion & visit the Fort. She saves Caesar’s life by scrounging parts for the Auto-doc (she isn’t proficient enough in medicine to perform the surgery herself). She carries out several requests by them but stops short of fully allying with them because of their treatment of women, her distrust of Lenius and her fears over the safety of Vulpes should Lenius take over the Legion from Caesar. Boomers: She realises they could be a great asset so clears out the ant’s nest and charms the kids with teddies, dinosaurs and rockets and finds herself readily accepted by the rocket-loving Boomers. Great Khans: Approves of their lifestyle & probably would have joined them if they had more power & influence. Enjoys a very casual relationship with Jack (until she meets Vulpes). Followers of the Apocalypse: Admires them greatly. Wishes she was a good enough person to join them. Attempts to aid Freeside because of them. Wishes Arcade would join with her, but he declines due to her reputation with Caesar. The Kings: Loves to visit The Kings to see Rex (H/C that The King & Rex are reunited once Rex gets a new brain), also enjoys the stage shows. Aided the Kings vs NCR because fuck the NCR. Hasn't as yet cashed in The King’s ‘favour’. Enemies: Is very careful to appear friendly to all factions, though loathes NCR. She thinks they are ineffectual, weak and will cause the collapse of New Vegas if they ‘win’. Hates bureaucracy & sees them as little more than ‘Enclave lite’. Of course blames them for her parents death. Fiends/Vipers/Jackals: Tries to keep far away from these groups as you cannot reason with them. Powder Gangers: Idiots with dynamite. Neutral Affiliations: Gomorrah: Despite herself, she finds Cachino charming, so helps him rid the casino of Big Sal & Nero. Warns Cachino that if he abuses any more women she’ll castrate him. Also aids Joana escape with Carlito. White Gloves: Stopped the cannibalism, would have burnt the whole place to the ground if she didn’t think the Strip needed the casino. Likes: Blamco Mac & Cheese, reading, repairing electronics & weapons, singing (badly) along with ED-E to the radio, dogs, Nuka-Cola, sleeping, exploring, hiking, hacking pre-war technology, swimming, fresh fruit, listening to Vulpes tell her tales from the Legion whilst they cuddle Dislikes: Cazadors, NCR, having your brain removed without being asked, stones under her bedroll, feeling cold, sleeping alone, litter/rubbish (can spend hours tidying before feeling comfortable somewhere. Both her parents were fastidious to the point of neuroticism and demanded cleanliness in the home as well as in their clinic, if Dolores is nervous or stressed she exhibits similar ‘clean freak’ tendencies to her parents.), bureaucracy & saluting. Friends: ED-E, Raul, Lily, Vulpes Inculta, Red Lucy, Jack (Great Khans), Rex, Fisto, Boomer kids Acquaintances: Boone, Veronica, Arcade, The King. Former friends: Cass (Cass disapproved of her relationship with Vulpes and her friendliness with the Legion, Dolores got fed up with being threatened by Cass so told her to fuck off, & wasn’t surprised or saddened when Cass did just that.) Enemies: Benny (feigned seduction, then stabbed him in the throat with a concealed switch-blade. Shot him in the head with Maria to make sure he was dead.) Personality: Sarcastic, dry sense of humour, intelligent, open, cheerful, charming, happy to help if she believes you are good for the world and her, sexually open. Trusts her gut feelings and easily becomes mistrustful; particularly after almost being murdered (you have to be or you’ll end up in a shallow grave), gets a thrill from stealing & finds it too hard to stop.                                   ______________________ Other info: Adores ED-E. Cried for a week after the Lonesome Road and wishes she could go back and blow everyone up to try to save ED-E #2 (Even though this doesn’t actually work in the game, you sadly lose the little dude no matter what you chose). Has Raul set up a long range radio receiver on ED-E #1, so she can find new radio stations because if she hears ‘Johnny Guitar’ just 1 more time she’ll kill someone. Loves travelling with Raul. He’s non-judgemental, funny, and she loves his Vaquero outfit. He helps her with her Spanish & repair skills, she helps him feel useful again. They make a great team of gunslingers. Raul moves from his cabin to live in Jacobstown in one of the spare cabins. Dolores is so happy she gets to visit Lily AND Raul when she visits Jacobstown. After Hoover Dam Doores is given one of the cabins meaning she can stay whenever she likes. Misses her ‘Grandma’ Lily and visits often when she feels it’s safe enough to return to the Mojave. Travelled with Boone to REPCONN but was terrified he’d kill her if he found out about her and Vulpes/The Legion, so let him return to Novac. Travelled with Veronica for a while. After returning from the Sierra Madre she tells Veronica about Christine, and together they return to the hotel so Veronica and Christine could be reunited. Knows she’s playing a dangerous game with the Legion and worries she’ll end up enslaved, and knows one day she’ll have to betray them. She is terrified of losing Vulpes or worse, that he’ll kill her or she’ll have to try to kill him. Tells Vulpes of her concerns re: Legate Lenius and begs Vulpes to leave the Legion & California before he’s murdered by Lenius. Vulpes disappears before the battle at Hoover Dam. 8 months later, Dolores can be seen travelling with a blond haired man and ED-E (the Playing Card set you can get from the Special edition has Vulpes with blond hair so this is why I h/c him bleaching his hair at the end as part of his disguise). Greatly enjoys being a Courier. She loves to explore and see other lifestyles and meet new people. The events of New Vegas take their toll on Dolores and she can feel her normally cheerful personality being whittled down. She becomes short tempered and judgemental, resorting more and more to violence. To try to temper this she spends time talking with Arcade. She knows how he feels about her affiliation with the Legion and is glad he still keeps friendly with her (despite declining to travel with her). Whenever she’s in Freeside or nearby, she makes a point to visit the Followers to not just add to her medical skills, but to spend time with those worse off than her so she can see how others are affected by the Legion & NCR. This helps her make up her mind to go with Yes Man.

A Fallout OC Interview
I snagged this from @life-is-no-sugarlicking because it looked like fun. Tagging: if you want to be tagged, thus you shall be.
Tumblr media
Onward to the Q&A!
What is your name? “My full name is Osa Claire Lockhart. Everybody calls me Claire. Sometimes General, or Bullseye. But usually, it’s just Claire.”
How old are you? “Oh, um, do you want my literal age? I don’t like counting the 210 years I spent frozen inside a cryopod, so let’s just say I’m 33.”
What do you look like? “I’m a short gal with long -- longish? yeah, longish -- red hair, blue eyes, and some freckles around my nose and cheeks. And I guess I’m brawny for a woman. Working out helps me keep a clear head. And, you know, alive. But let me tell you: you can have as many muscles as my hubby and you can still end up with a Deathclaw’s claw marks on your cheek. Which... I did. In my defense, the power armor I wore was fitted for some tall dude and it was the first time I’d ever seen one of them beasts.”
Where are you from? Where do you live now? “I’m from a very small town in Texas called Blue Fields, named after all the bluebonnets that used to grow there. When I turned 18, I joined the army. I was stationed in the Yukon for a while, then Anchorage, Alaska... and then, when I was discharged, I moved back home. Graduated from Texas A&M, then moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts when I was accepted into Harvard Law School. When I got married, I moved to Sanctuary Hills. Nowadays, I live in Diamond City in the Commonwealth... Wow, I’ve lived in a lot of places.”
What was your childhood like? “It... wasn’t that great, but Mom tried to give me and my brothers as many good memories as she could.”
What groups are your friendly with? Are you allied with any factions? “I’m the General of the Minutemen. I can be friendly with any group that wants to help the people of the Commonwealth. And ‘people’ includes humans, synths, and ghouls.”
Tell me about your best friend. “My best friend? Well... I assume you mean my best friend outside of any family members. That would be Preston. I don’t know what would’ve happened to me if he hadn’t asked me to join the Minutemen. Because I, um, don’t do well alone, and I was in a dark... very dark place when I left the vault. Helping Preston and the Quincy survivors gave me a purpose. One other than revenge. And I... don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay him.”
Do you have a family? Tell me about them! “Growing up, my family was my mom and dad, my older brother, my younger brother, and our abuela. I got married after graduating law school, and Nate and I had a baby boy we named Sean. Almost all of them are gone now, obviously.”
What about a partner or partners? “Danse and I got married a few months ago. He used to be a Brotherhood of Steel paladin but that’s a whole other can of worms. He’s still my hero in power armor, though.”
Who are your enemies and why? “Um... There are groups in the Commonwealth that I dislike and the Institute has been destroyed for months now. But enemies? Not at the moment. Some people see me as the enemy. Lot of Institute refugees won’t accept any help from me or the Minutemen. Can’t really blame them.”
Have you ever heard of the Brotherhood of Steel? What do you think about them? “Oh, I’ve heard of them. I’m still grateful for their help. I’m still good friends with Scribe Haylen, and I guess Knight Rhys, too. But let me just say Elder Maxson and I are currently not on speaking terms.”
What about the Enclave? “Everything I know about the Enclave are things Danse and Deacon have told me. Apparently, they’re the remnants of the United States’ government. I bet they were all the cowards who sent us soldiers to fight the wars they made.”
How do you feel about Super Mutants? “I listened to some of the holotapes I found in the old Robotics lab...” Claire physically shivers. “All the people they kidnapped, they turned them into super mutants and released them into the Commonwealth. It’s awful. But when one of ‘em attacks you, you don’t have the luxury to feel guilty.”
What’s the craziest fight you’ve ever been in? “Oh God, you’d think it’d be the time I met Cait and fought her in the Combat Zone. But no. It’s got to be that ‘fake’ fight that was meant to give Travis some confidence. I might have broken one of them goon’s nose, and then Vadim refused to pay him and his partner. Don’t tell Vadim I said this but he kinda deserved to be kidnapped.”
Have you ever fought Deathclaw? “Yeah, that’s how I got the pretty scars on my cheek.”
Do you like fighting? “I don’t like fighting but it’s unavoidable in the wasteland.”
What’s your weapon of choice? “A tried and true 10mm pistol and the laser rifle Danse gave me. But if I need something with a bit of oomph, I’ll use a gauss rifle. That thing saved my ass when the Institute attacked the Castle.”
How do you survive? Your wits, your charm, your skills, brute force, or some combination? (a.k.a. what’s your S.P.E.C.I.A.L.?) “I’m a medal-winning sharpshooter -- not that I’m bragging -- I can ran faster than most raiders, and... I listen to people. You might not think being a good listener will help you survive the Commonwealth but people want to be heard. That hasn’t changed in over 200 years.”
Have you ever been in a vault? What do you think about them? “... Yes. I’ve been in a vault. I’m alive because of a vault. I’d rather stay away from most of them, though.”
How do you beat all the radiation around here? Has it affected you? “Well, I haven’t turned into a ghoul, so that’s something. I take a Rad-X every morning and seek shelter whenever a radstorm rolls through. That’s about all anyone can do.”
What’s your favorite wasteland critter? “Probably the radchickens and the brahmin.”
What’s your least favorite wasteland critter? “Mole rats. I don’t care if Deacon thinks they’re so ugly they’re cute, they JUMP out from the underGROUND.”
How do you feel about robots? “Codsworth waited for over 200 years for someone -- anyone -- from my family to leave the vault and find him. Most robots are built to perform one task and they do it well, but Codsworth? He’s irreplaceable.”
How many caps do you have on you right now? “Answering that question is a great way to get robbed.”
Nuka Cola or Sunset Sarsaparilla? “Both drinks were widely available in Texas but I’ve always been a Nuka Cola girl. My favorite flavor Nuka Victory but stores in the northeast only ever sold it during the summer. Unless you went to Nuka World.”
Do you do chems? “No. I remember when in Anchorage our superior officers would overlook any psycho and jet use, but I never touched it. Too worried I’d end up like my dad and my older brother.”
Do you ever think about the pre-war world? “Not as much as I did when I left the vault. I still miss it sometimes.”
What’s your deepest regret? What would you do differently? “... I don’t think I can talk about that right now.”
What’s your biggest achievement? Or what do you hope to achieve? “I used to think my biggest achievement was becoming a lawyer but everything paled in comparison to becoming a mom. Wow, that sounds really cliche, doesn’t it?” Claire takes a deep breath to keep from crying. “I guess my deepest regret and my biggest achievement will always have Sean in common.”
What do you want for your future? For yourself? Your friends? The world? Claire takes a moment to answer. “I want to see the Commonwealth thrive. I want it to be a land for the people. I don’t know how we’re going to do it, but if the West has the NCR, I don’t see why the East can’t have the Commonwealth.”

Fandom: Fallout: New Vegas: New California Pairing: Ben Kurtz x f!Star Player/f!Courier Warnings: references to “breeding” Word Count: 1594 Author Notes: Final chapter, but there’s a sequel already happening. :P
part vi.
It was the day of the operation on Fort Daggerpoint. End the super mutant threat. It wasn’t going to be easy. Everyone had a stake in this. The remaining survivalists, the Enclave, the NCR. It was going to be a cluster fuck.
Since your first venture into Fort Daggerpoint, you had withdrawn into yourself. You couldn’t trust anyone but your friends, yet you were at the mercy of everybody. One wrong move and you could be a super mutant breeding machine or the NCR’s darkest secret or the Enclave’s greatest experiment. You just wanted to be left alone, to be the master of your own fate. If you thought politics in the vault was bad, that was nothing in comparison to shit you were in now.
You rubbed your face in exhaustion, mentally preparing yourself for one more walk to the city, one more conversation with General Silverman. Ben appeared at your side, putting a hand on your shoulder. His usual calming presence couldn’t even touch the anxiety and adrenaline that coursed through your body.
“Ben,” you paused, grabbing his hand and squeezing it, trying to find a way to put your thoughts into words. “This is so fucked.”
If it had been any other day, he might’ve chuckled. But instead he let out a breath, his face a little grimmer than usual. “We have to destroy the evil within the Fort. Fuck everything else.”
You looked up at him and nodded, not really believing that “fuck everything else” was as easy as he made it seem. From the look in his eyes, he didn’t believe it either. But if there was any chance of you being able to live your life in freedom and peace, it had to be done.
---
The NCR and the Desert Rangers were there first to usher you in. Amidst all the bloodshed--bodies of enemies and allies alike-- you noticed something that didn't seem quite right. The California Tribe was absent.
You didn't look at Ben. You kept your eyes ahead, yelling orders when another wave of super mutants rushed out of the depths of the fort, mowing down anyone in front of them. Airstrikes rained down from above and the sounds of the raider vertibirds came and went, bringing more bodies and confusion.
Silverman made it clear: it was up to you and your team to go into the fort and subdue the threat. Once you were past the large metal doors, there would be no help from the NCR. Not that you expected any.
---
“It’s beautiful, in some ways.”
Kira was right. Your team had made it to the dam and it was hauntingly empty for a moment. Sounds of the fight at the gates were muffled by the stone surrounding you. The sky was dipping into a rich purple dusk, the moon peeking out of the clouds above, and you wished you were anywhere but here. Back into the depths of Fort Daggerpoint. You didn’t feel ready to face the Father and what he would say to you, but you didn’t have a choice. If you could have one second to breathe, you would take it. It was now.
You were glad that your friends were around you. You were glad that Ranger Vargas was a few steps away with her team. You were even glad Captain Jameson had tagged along too. At least you had made some impact on the San Bernardino valley, even if the people who you impacted most were going to die today fighting alongside you.
“Are you ready?” A breath escaped you when he said it.
You looked at Ben and then you looked at Kira, Jamie, and Eric a few feet away pointing at the water below. You were as ready as you were ever going to be. So you nodded and did the one last thing you could think of because this might be your last chance.
You kissed Ben on the cheek.
You didn’t wait for a response. That would be your reward for bringing everyone back out alive. Turning toward the doors that would lead you to the Father, you yelled behind you, “Let’s go!”
---
Dread filled your body and you knew it was not the time to choke. You had just found Anais and now you were going to lose her. Someone who was like you, who would know you in ways you didn’t think anyone ever could, not even your late siblings. You stared at the button, hearing her voice below demanding that you press it, destroy the things that hurt you and her and so many others. Destroy Project Brazil. Destroy it all.
So you did. You hoped this was the death she wanted. Was she happy? Relieved? Scared? Satisfied?
God, this was not what you expected to happen. It wasn’t what you wanted to happen.
All you had to do now was evacuate. You dared to hope you could even manage that. Eric was badly wounded, leaning heavily on Jamie as you approached them. You grabbed his other arm and signalled Ben to lead as you left the launch pad, Kira trailing behind a ways.
As soon as you saw the vertibird, you knew it was over. Everyone had fucking vertibirds, none of them were a good sign.
It echoed in your mind that maybe it was for the best. You could be stalled at the platform too long and you would all be incinerated by the rockets when they launched. That wouldn’t be the worst outcome. Then Project Brazil would truly be dead, assuming you didn’t survive.
“General Silverman.” It wasn’t a greeting, it wasn’t a exclamation of joy, it was an exhausted attempt at regarding this man who had too much power over you.
“Y/N. Well done.”
This conversation seemed to last for hours, but it wasn’t long enough.
“They know what you are and were ready to pull the trigger, but I was able to change their minds. They’re looking for someone to deliver high-priority packages, someone with special abilities like yourself.” Silverman looked you straight in the eyes, like he was doing you a favor, like he finally was able to help you, such a hapless soul. “Agree and you’ll be free. As free as you can be.”
Freedom. A life working with the NCR or a life running away from them. You could spend forever running, never stopping until you hit the Atlantic. Would you be safe then? Would they be safe? Your friends. No, your fucking family. You would always be able to run, to get back up again when they beat you down, but Jamie, Eric, Kira, and Ben didn’t have that opportunity. This was it for them. Their lives are in your hands, they always were. You nodded slowly, not looking at the General but at the shadows of your friends on the ground beside you.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I’ll make sure your friends have a good place to go.” He didn’t sound apologetic. You don’t know how you expected this to turn out. Maybe you were too optimistic. This was obviously the best outcome you could’ve ever had, in any universe, in any timeline. There were bigger powers at play, you were all just doing your part as pawns to keep the wheels turning.
You turned to your friends.. It was all happening too fast. You weren’t prepared for this.
“Get in the vertibird. I’ll come find you,” it was all you could manage without breaking down, your eyes already shining, you could feel the pressure at the back of your throat. Jamie just nodded, though she knew what was happening. She didn’t waste any time pulling Eric into vertibird, demanding a medic look at his leg, torn and bleeding. Her last look at you was full of tears, so she just looked away again, taking one of Eric’s hands in her own. Kira followed her shortly, after staring at you for a long time, trying to gauge the sincerity of your words. She shook her head, pulling her fingers through her hair.
Lastly, there was Ben. He stood immobile, his eyes piercing into you. You couldn’t tell what was going through his head, but time was running out. You walked up to him, yanking his hand from where it was clenched at his side, and threading your fingers through his.
“I will come find you.” He trusted you every step of the way. He needed to trust you now, NCR be damned.
“Y/N!” General Silverman was already getting climbing into the vertibird, two NCR soldiers approaching you slowly, meaning to take you away forcefully if you didn’t comply soon.
You gave Ben’s hand a final squeeze before backing away until you were pulled in unceremoniously next to General Silverman. The rush of wind blew through your hair as the vertibird blades picked up speed and you slowly ascended.
This was it. You crawled to the edge of the vertibird, staring at Ben, trying to map everything about him into your memory, but it was difficult. It was difficult as you saw him finally fall to his knees, a look of defeat flashing across his face before Kira ran over to him, urging him to get into the vertibird with her. It was difficult when tears were filling your vision, blurring everything together. It was difficult as you pulled away, unable to see your friends anymore, not knowing when you would see them again.

#1-#10 and #12-20 for your courier 😺✨
Oh my gosh this is so many! I’ll try to do the best I can.
1. Faction: Technically she’s aligned with Yes-Man, but she’s Followers all the way. She’s too optimistic and idealistic to be anything else.
2. Preferred Armor: she can use power armor after getting training from Judah Kreger, but after it broke down in the Big MT, she chooses not to. Right now, her “uniform” is Mobius’s Labcoat and the Gannon Power Helmet. I really like how they look together, it gives off a “Rocketeer” vibe. (Sorry for no pictures, I’ll try to get some as soon as she’s out of the Sierra Madre)
3. Weapon type: she’s a pacifist except when absolutely necessary, at which point she uses Energy Weapons.
4. Highest Skills: she’s a talented doctor and scientist, meaning that Medicine and Science are her highest skills. She also has a high speech skill (it was the only way to recruit Arcade), although this often translates to “says endearing things that make people like her” rather than the typical smooth talker. During OWB, she upped her stealth skill in order to better avoid robodogs, nightstalkers, and lobotomites, at least until she got the Stealth Suit. She’s working on Survival and Repair in the Sierra Madre right now. Her lowest are Barter and Guns.
5. SPECIAL: S 6 P 9 E 7 C 6 I 10 A 4 L 6
6. (Important) Perks: Cherchez la Femme, Big Brained, Comprehension, Computer Whiz, Educated, Four Eyes, Good Natured, Swift Learner, Lessons Learned. Obviously that’s not all of them but it’s the ones that matter most to her character.
7. Companions: She’s very close with Arcade, Veronica, and Christine, and loves her pets/robot friends Rex and Ed-E. God gets on her nerves, but she pities him more than anything else. Dean’s a bastard, but he’s a useful bastard, and so she deals with him and tries to stay in his good graces.
8. Relationships: No romantic partners, no. Most women aren’t interested in a gal covered in someone else’s blood, and the ones who would be are usually disinterested when they learn that the other person is still alive. She did harbor a mini-crush on Veronica when they first met, but that stopped cold when they first talked about Christine.
9. Demographics: white lesbian.
10. She was born and raised in Freeside, helping her mother in and around the Old Mormon Fort. They had a small apartment near Mick and Ralph’s.
12. I’m going to modify this question, and answer “How did the courier affect her?”. To that end, I don’t think she ever wanted a bigger life than a Wasteland medic, because a) it suited her and b) she knew she was doing real good in the Mojave. But when she was mistaken for the courier and saw what House was planning, she realized she had to step up and do what had to be done, for the good of the Mojave.
13. How did she deal with Benny: regrettably, she had to abandon him in the Fort, as there was no way for her and Arcade to fight their way out. It’s entirely possible that decision will come back to bite her eventually.
14. NCR/Legion rep: I think by this point she’s certainly a blip on their radars, especially the Legion, considering she visited their leader’s camp. She was stationed at Camp Golf briefly as a medic, but they haven’t connected the dots of her former life to her current. Besides that, her only direct interaction with the NCR thus far has been fixing the solar panels at Helios One and creating a redundancy in case the dam fell. Once she returns from the Sierra Madre, though, she’s going to start forging alliance across the Mojave, and that’s going to get their attention.
15. Freeside Rep: to them, Sophia is a shining example of what a kid from Freeside can grow up to become. The Kings all love her, especially after stopping a war between the gang and the NCR and fixing the King’s robo-dog. Mick and Ralph watched her grow up and always give her discounts on whatever she needs. Even the Garetts and the Van Graffs admire her from afar, and she often buys ammo for her weapons from the Silver Rush. And obviously, she’s in very good graces with the Followers of the Apocalypse.
16. Goodsprings/Novac/Primm Rep: not a lot, honestly. She stopped in and fixed Johnson Nash’s broken down eyebot for him, but other than, she doesn’t visit them very often.
17. Minor faction Rep: she actually hasn’t met any of the factions besides the Khans yet. While recovering at the Old Mormon Fort from her adventures in the Big MT, she discovered that the Followers had helped the Khans in the past, which encouraged her to reforge the alliance. She’s never interacted with the Brotherhood directly, only with its agents: Veronica, Christine, and Father Elijah, which has given her a … mixed reaction. I think she’ll like the Boomers once she gets to know them; they’re good people if a little weaponry-obsessed. The Gangers can rot.
18. NV Strip Rep: House isn’t fond of Sophia, but his opinion doesn’t matter much anymore. After installing Cachino in charge of the Omertas, she’s made sure that they won’t make any trouble with her. The Chairmen vaguely recognize her as “that doll that made Benny wig out and disappear” but don’t really know much beyond that. She knows something is up with the White Gloves, but she can’t figure it out. And the NCR Military Police are a little uneasy about the new faces on all the Securitrons, but they haven’t let it bother them yet.
19. Motives: originally, she just wanted to stop House out of fear that he would use the newly-upgraded Securitrons to take over Freeside. But she quickly realized that a power vacuum on that scale would only lead to the collapse of New Vegas and the surrounding area, allowing either Caesar or the NCR to move in and take over. Her ideal government is a loose syndicate of mutually-cooperating communities, with a newly-assertive Yes Man to defuse situations, using Securitrons if necessary. The NCR is welcome to remain in the Mojave, but they have to leave the greater New Vegas area alone and stop conquering absorbing communities - if they want to make a nation, they have to do it themselves. The Legion can, again, rot.
20. Theme song: I think there’d be a different one for each period of her story. (Note: not all of these are period correct, but I tried to fit the Old West vibe). When she’s just a wasteland medic, I think Ain’t That A Kick In the Head by Dean Martin fits her outlook on life and optimistic personality. From her trip to the Fort to just after assembling the Enclave Remnants, Short Change Hero by the Heavy fits how she’s panicky and suddenly realizes the enormity of her place in the Wasteland, even though she doesn’t want it. Throughout the Big MT, Devil at the Door by the Highlonesome encapsulates how she feels: scared, alone, surrounded by enemies and an expendable pawn for greater beings. But once she gets her brain back from Mobius and realizes the truth of why she was brought to the Big MT, her theme song changes to The World Ender by Lord Huron as she comes back from the brink of death and despair to become an unstoppable juggernaut of revenge, tearing down first the Think Tank, then tracking Elijah and Christine to the Sierra Madre to find out who Elijah is and then kick his ass for putting a bomb collar on her and Christine. If there’s another theme song for post-Dead Money, I haven’t found it yet.
Thanks for all the questions OP! It was really fun to think of answers to all of these.
