spirk fics i've read recently(ish) and loved
My Heart to Your Heart by greenforsnow @m-b-w - TOS - need a gentle fic? this is it. softness pervades every syllable of this fic!
Through the Wall by Sexy_Lil_Emo - AOS - a fic inspired by nsfw fanart. who needs plot with that?
Malfunction by Maeko - AOS - a nice, short nightcap when you need something sweet to read before bed
Impulse (or, Three Kisses) by decidedlynotheterosexual @decidedly-not-heterosexual - TOS - spock loses control but in the *sweetest* way and they talk about it like adults and this is just soothing and nice
The Proposal by TheKittyCorps @contrascene - AOS - spirk version of "the proposal." laugh out loud funny in parts (yes, hijinks included)
Heirs to the Glimmering World by gunstreet @gunstreet - SNW/TOS - sybok, michael, and sam conspire to get their brothers together!! siblings! tentative first meetings! sex!
De Profundis by Rhaegal (RhaegalKS) - TOS - tmp-era spirk. spock knows he fucked up so he's gonna woo jim
The Kiss by awarrington - TOS - there are some super dated things in this fic (it was originally written in 1994) but this is one of the best i've read dealing with jim coming to terms with his bisexuality and attraction to spock. def don't read if you can't or don't want to take it in context of its time. if you can/have the emotional bandwidth to, then it's well worth it
On the Arrow by Fic_me_senseless - AOS - post-into darkness, heavy read, so much longing, and pain, and it makes you ache in the best way
i'm also in a "watch beyond on repeat phase" so here are my favorite post-beyond fics:
The Steadfastness of Stars by itsnatalie - AOS - this fic. THIS FIC. i was only going to read one paragraph, really. i skipped work, read the whole thing, and now this is in my top five spirk fics
in my life, i love you more by spaceisgay (ChancellorGriffin) - AOS - idek how many times i've read this now. i watch beyond, i read this fic. if they never make a fourth movie, this will be my canon
And Then I Let It Go by kianspo - AOS - yorktown happens, spock goes missing, jim goes after him. this could so be canon too
on the complete opposite side of post-beyond angst is two (YES TWO, we are so blessed!) "spock makes jim coffee" fics that will both make you smile and feel warm all over:
Home in a Mug by Lizzy0305
certainty relief by itsamew @enterprise-me-capn
and (because i can never quite seem to keep these lists solely focused on spirk) one AOS mckirk fic:
retro/spect by slightlycrunchy @slightlycrunchy - best friends to lovers anyone? this is just so so so lovely!

honestly, dangerous cults should be persecuted
what is this even about? i can only think of it as a response to my religious posts?
this is so vague i can't even address it properly. feel free to clarify and i will give it another shot.
what do you define as dangerous or cult? some atheists use this to mean religions as a whole, or for me specifically, this could mean religion, organized religion, chrisitanity, latter day saintism / mormonism, or community of christ.
i am not addressing all that. and even how the government handled the branch davidians and the FLDS, who i would classify as cults based on the BITE model and dangerous for the people in it, was wrong.
mass killings and long-term separation of children from their mothers, who are also victims and love their children, is wrong. i think it was kidnapping and horribly traumatizing for the mothers and children.
i do think legally and criminally persecuting cult leaders and other perpetrators of abuse in the cult should be arrested and taken to court. victims need support, resources, and ethical reeducation.
but again, idk what sort of persecution you mean. or who you mean.
If you think I am in a cult, i disagree. The BITE model doesn't support that view. it ticks a couple of boxes but so do universities and the legal system. organized religion is an organization, and organizations will have flaws that fall into at least one of the categories to a minor extent. not every small in numbers or newer religions are cults. Nor is every religion that has living prophets. which, again, i only write that bc i am not sure if this is about me and my faith that i have posted about on here.
i have critiqued actions of my church leaders, including tippy top leadership. i am hesitant to be rude about it to their faces, but i don't want to bc i respect them in general, and that's not really how i roll. especially offline with my irls.
i have seen fandoms who tick off BITE model boxes more than some religious organizations. political organizations too. i was in a communist political org that checked off more BITE boxes any church i've been a member of. but i'd call that a high-demand organization, not a political cult. but i'd see a person's point more if they said that about my old politcal org. self-crit is offensive to individualists and d,minant american culture. i am too ill to organize now but i still support them bc they do good work nationwide. i had more voice there, even with top leaders, than i have with the democratic party.
this was much longer than intensed. but i was sent an ask.

i love all the secrets the girls have with themselves and just one other person, especially when it's a ghost.
no one will ever know that shauna ate jackie's ear, that she ate jackie first, that jackie was hers - both briefly, before everyone else ate her, and then always, because now jackie lives on inside her, and in everything shauna does. how can ghostjackie not appear, even twenty-five years later on that bridge, when she's a part of shauna, just as much as her heart and lungs are? shauna consumes jackie, and jackie consumes shauna, and it all starts with the ear that exists between them.
lottie is the only one who saw the chunk missing on deadjackie's arm; i'm sure she had theories or concerns about it, but it's still a secret she immediately accepted as is, and then agreed to keep - locking the necklace around shauna's neck to confirm their silent covenant, that they're now linked together in this act of sorrow and love, and then the kindness she generally shows towards shauna's grieving process: you can trust me. you're not alone. (but it's not really just between lottie and shauna, either: it was jackie's flesh, so ghostjackie keeps yet another secret, even without knowing.)
misty is the only person who knows crystal's real name, and true demise. no one will ever believe that crystal accidentally fell, and even if they did, it doesn't matter: they weren’t up on that cliff anyways, which is fine, because it means kristen - her life, her death - belongs to misty alone. a part of misty belongs solely to kristen, too: the black box secret that misty will likely take to her grave now, just as kristen took it to hers. (obviously her family and theatre friends knew her real name, but she shared it with misty because she trusted her. and that moment, before the trust was broken, will always exist, suspended in air. they pinky-promised it.)

Do you like dragons? Do you like magic? Do you enjoy seeing immortals dealing with their situations in questionable manners? Well, I got the blog just for you!
Fel here with a multimuse consisting of a dragon trying their best to live among humanity and teaching their students how to properly use magic and its origins. With a supporting cast of characters who are honestly dealing with their lives the best way they know how: completely unhealthy.
If that sounds interesting to you, give this post a like/reblog and I'll check you out!

“Nothing was easy, and sometimes she failed, and sometimes she thought that the fairy stories were right, that there must indeed be easier ways of living happily ever after; but defeat is a poor ending to any tale, so she kept trying.”

thinking thoughts
I have quite a few thoughts about Alicent Hightower, both the book and show versions of her character. Her actions remind me of the hyper-religious women in my own life, and while I sympathize with her somewhat in the show, I find her character cruel and callous. In the book, however, I respected her agency and choices, even if she annoyed me at times.
That being said, my main issues with the House of the Dragon show are the mistreatment of Laena, Leanor and Alicent's indecisiveness and lack of backbone. Rhaenyra's accusation that Alicent had been hiding behind her righteousness was spot-on. I'm sorry that Aemond lost his eye, but I do not think that the appropriate response will ever be knowingly removing the eye of a six-year-old boy.
Alicent declares war against Rhaenyra because she believes she didn't tell her the whole truth about the pleasure house incident with Daemon. I wonder why she'd think she's entitled to anything from Rhaenyra, much less the truth. She broke her trust and they are barely friends. While we know that Otto pressured her into going into Viserys' room, Rhaenyra does not, and in her mind, her best friend married her father only six months after her mother's death. Rather than trying to understand where Rhaenyra is coming from, Alicent breaks her trust once more and declares war.
Alicent ignores the violence her older son inflicts on his younger siblings, and she marries her 13-year-old daughter to her own violent rapist son. Additionally, Alicent emotionally abuses her stepdaughter/friend for no apparent reason and aligns herself with an incel/murderer/oathbreaker, a kin slayer and a rapist despite going on and on about Rhaenyra's lack of morals. She knowingly crowns her violent rapist son, who she'd told was no son of hers, literally one episode ago.
