Q: What's a city, state, or country you've never been and would like to travel to?. I loveddd #InANewYorkMinute ! 🗽 Maybe it’s because I live in NYC and can relate, but this story felt so down to earth and realistic. (And I can’t relate in that I’ve met an attractive guy on the subway, I wish – just the city aspects.) 🚇 I loved this book and I’m so glad I decided to pick it up. Franny & Hayes meet-cute story on the subway goes viral thanks to someone snapping photos and sharing to Instagram, making them #SubwayQTs (since they were on the Q train….get it? HA!) This is a hilarious and charming story of two people who are different and yet keep seeing each other and become connected in ways they didn’t expect. I love Franny’s over the top personality – she is an artist, after all, and decides in her newly unemployed status to start her own Interior Design business. And I love how Hayes is a business and numbers guy, he has a routine and sticks to it every single day. In A New York Minute is a romance but its definitely more plot driven than most romance novels I read – there is not a lot of actual kissing or sex in this book, I would personally rate this at a high PG-13. They don’t kiss until over halfway through the book and the sex (spoiler not spoiler, its a romance, you knew it was coming) happens off page with little to no details. This didn’t bother me in the least. These characters were so interesting to read about and so well developed. Q: How many books away are you from reaching your @goodreads reading challenge goal?. I'm currently at 96/100 books so only 4 more to go for me! I know I'll reach my goal, I always make it something I can achieve, but I'll be reading a bunch of graphic novels this month just to be safe LOL. Q: What's the last book that lived up to the hype for you?. Welcome back to another summer of #BooksandFlowers! 🌸🌼 I wish I started sooner because a lot of the lilies in my yard are already past their prime, RIP me returning to work in the office and having a lot less bookstagram time. Anyways. I've seen Firekeeper's Daughter around for a few months now and many friends have said how much they enjoyed it, so I finally decided to give this a try – and I’m so glad I did. There was a lot of hype around this book and I’m pleased to say, it exceeds that hype. This book is everything I never knew I wanted. A mystery/thriller with Native American characters with contemporary Native American culture and language (Anishinaabemowin) prevalent throughout the book. This book is set in 2004, so while its not present, it’s still contemporary. This is considered “young adult” but I’d consider this on the higher end of YA, or even “new adult” – the characters are seniors in high school or in college – but this is a story everyone should read and can benefit from. The author herself is Native American and I truly cannot think of another young adult contemporary novel about Native Americans by a Native American. I loved the exploration of modern Native experience and culture throughout this book, including the spoken language of Anishinaabemowin. I listened to this as an audiobook and I loved hearing Anishinaabemowin spoken. Some books feel forced with another language sprinkled in with English – this never once felt forced and only made the novel feel more cohesive and genuine. This is going to be one of my favorite books of 2021, I’m calling it now. Q: What is your favorite book you read in June?. In June, I read 9 books total, including 2 non-fiction, 1 graphic novel. I DNF-ed 2 books – I was not feeling them and ready to move on. My favorite book of June was easily The Box in the Woods – I loved the Truly Devious trilogy and I was so looking forward to the 4th book, set weeks after the end of the previous trilogy – and it did not disappoint. So many feel good feels and I was so happy to be back in that setting. Other honorable mentions were romance story The Soulmate Equation - A “dating” company that will take your DNA and then find your soulmate match? Can this be real life and where can I sign up?. Instructions for Dancing - another Nicola Yoon hit. I will read everything Nicola writes from now until always - and her stories always have a twist that you don't see coming. #Heartstopper Volume 3 - I'm chugging along reading the sweetest graphic novel story EVER and if you haven't picked it up yet, I highly recommend this story! Volume 3 was more serious and dealt with mental health issues and eating disorders, which I didn’t expect, but I’m glad this series tackles important issues. DID YOU KNOW #CemeteryBoys starts on the night of October 29th (last night) - thats when Yadriel summons ghost Julian and let me tell you I'm sooooo glad I read this book this past week because I LOVE LIVING IN THE MOMENT!. Q: Have you read Cemetery Boys yet and what did you think of it? And if not, do you plan to? (whispers you really should). First and foremost - this is not my story. I am not #Latinx or #Transgender. But I am so very glad this story exists for those who do identify as either (or both) of those. This is the fantasy story we all needed! I'm getting warm fuzzies just writing this because I'm so happy a fantasy book with a Latinx #Trans character exists. 2020 at its finest! I absolutely loved Yadriel and Julian. This book is fast paced, and takes place over only a couple days, but I feel like we learn so much about both Yads and Jules in this short time, there is great character development and I really feel like I know these two. I also adore Maritza, Yadriel's cousin - she was the first person Yad's came out to as trans and gay, and she fully supports him. DID YOU KNOW #CemeteryBoys starts on the night of October 29th (last night) - thats when Yadriel summons ghost Julian and let me tell you I'm sooooo glad I read this book this past week because I LOVE LIVING IN THE MOMENT!. Q: Have you read Cemetery Boys yet and what did you think of it? And if not, do you plan to? (whispers you really should). First and foremost - this is not my story. I am not #Latinx or #Transgender. But I am so very glad this story exists for those who do identify as either (or both) of those. This is the fantasy story we all needed! I'm getting warm fuzzies just writing this because I'm so happy a fantasy book with a Latinx #Trans character exists. 2020 at its finest! I absolutely loved Yadriel and Julian. This book is fast paced, and takes place over only a couple days, but I feel like we learn so much about both Yads and Jules in this short time, there is great character development and I really feel like I know these two. I also adore Maritza, Yadriel's cousin - she was the first person Yad's came out to as trans and gay, and she fully supports him. Q: What is your favorite book you read in July?. Me, actually posting a wrap up post on the last day of the month?! AMAZING!. Full wrap up post on the blog now, link in bio. In July, I read 9 books total – this seems to be my monthly average these days! The month started off a little rocky but once I found my footing in books, I read a lot of 4 and 5 star reads so I’m really happy about that!. It's hard to pick just ONE favorite this month, but if I had to pick, I'd say Firekeeper's Daughter was my overall favorite. A mystery/thriller with Native American characters with contemporary Native American culture and language (Anishinaabemowin) prevalent throughout the book. Kept me on the edge of my seat and intrigued the entire time. I just finished Malibu Rising yesterday and once again, Taylor Jenkins Reid surpasses my expectations. I would like to live inside of a Taylor Jenkins Reid book please and thank you. She has such a way with words and setting the scene, I feel like I am really THERE. Her storytelling ability is unlike anything else.
