I feel like Light would actually not be that much better off if he'd ignored L tbh. Yeah, sometimes it's wiser to back down from a fight and fly under the radar, but that only really applies when your enemy does not have massive amounts of power, the ability to gain ground against you at an astronomical rate, the obsessive fixation of a man with nothing else to do and all the time in the world, and the dedication of someone whose entire life is the game. L is simply not the type of enemy you want to leave to his own devices.

like there is something genuinely so heartbreaking in the way that mikami used to care so much about helping other people but after he kept being rejected he was like well fuck you all. there's no way out of here is there. and just entirely disengaged from society outside of enacting punitive justice. maybe if we had gotten mikami a tumblr account he could've been sending horrific anon hate instead of prosecuting.

Do you believe Lightbearers are changed biologically from before they became Lightbearers?
Can't believe I forgot to answer this- I genuinely thought I did until I was scrolling through my inbox and saw it pop up again. Oops.
Anyways, my headcanon is that yes, Lightbearers are biologically different than non-Lightbearers- they become so when their ghost is rezzing them for the first time. During the first rez, their bodies are essentially restructured to better suit being a vessel of Light, with far greater phsyical resiliance, capacity, and overall durability being granted as a boon from the Traveler so that they're not torn to shreds when using even the most basal abilities. Even Lightless, they're still much stronger than a baseline human, they cannot age (their telomeres simply do not degrade and their DNA repair kit becomes more accurate, so they don't incur the gradual DNA loss/nonspecific remedies that lead to the maladies of old age), and they're still paracausally sensitive, even if their conduit for channeling the Light has been cut. Outside of the never-aging and paracasal-sensitivity thing, the effect isn't drastic, but they are still noticibly hardier than a person who'd never directly touched the light of the Traveler would be. Eris, Zavala, and Osiris could be beaten by a sufficiently strong mortal in an arm wrestling contest, for example, but they're all able to learn to use Darkness/walk off injuries with an ease that a Lightless mortal cannot.
After the first rez, additional permanant change is possible, but it requires either paracausal alteration (such as wounds created by Darkness, wounds that were earned and began healing in a no-light zone, or subconcious paracausal alteration, where the Guardian's own body rejects the touch of the Light), or deliberate ghost manipulation. I like to headcanon that by using the Light in much the same way that they would heal, Ghosts can learn to tweak parts of their guardian's bodies to be altered to their liking, which is a method by which transitioning post-rez occurs, in the instance that one was not an exo or did not medically transition before death. It's extremely delicate, but all they have to do is use their bond and the Light to go 'hey, you're missing something, you need to make more of this hormone or grow more of this tissue to fully heal', and bam, gender transed :) This fully depends on the skill of the ghost, however, so its a slow process even if it can theoretically lead to a full transition over time, and certain tissues can only atrophy so far before they need to be cut off. In the case of exos, all the ghosts need to do is block the mental disconnect between the body alterations and the perception of what those should be, and that's about it

For all the reasons I've seen for people to either love or hate James's arc in V8, I've never once seen anyone bring up his semblance. Specifically, I've never seen anyone mention what a disservice it was to have it merely mentioned on Twitter and never once bring it up in any sort of way in the actual show.
I hate information being released on the side and never once being brought up in the canon in any sort of way. It's lazy. It is relying solely on the audience to have seen it and to take your word for it. It's like adapting a book into a show or film but leaving out important details about the world and/or characters, relying on the audience to have read the book first (which a vast majority of them will not have done).
James's semblance, to put it simply, is tunnel-vision. It "strengthens his resolve to carry through with tough decisions", basically cancelling out rational thought and ignoring consequences. This is a major piece of information about James's behavior that is never once brought up, and because of that I can understand why a lot of people didn't like his 180 heel turn into antagonist territory--I didn't either for the longest time, and because of this a part of me still doesn't. While parts of his downfall were done subtly and done well, this particular part of it was not.
"But why would his semblance ever be brought up in conversation?" Good question, one that could be easily answered by the three characters in the cast that definitely should know about James's semblance: Qrow, Ozpin, and Watts. Qrow and Ozpin had been working with James for years, and before that it is implied that Watts and James also worked together for a period of time, getting to know each other fairly well. It makes absolutely no sense for neither of these three to ever once bring up the fact that James's behavior is likely due to his semblance interfering with his ability to make decisions. Hell, I can even imagine Watts being delighted by this; Watts knowing how James's semblance works and how to take advantage of it would definitely benefit Salem.
James Ironwood was such a fascinating character, but the fact that his semblance felt like an afterthought is a major disservice to his arc, in my opinion.

Another Truman show thing: the scene where Truman gets kinda physically violent, maybe with mu, she would break character maybe at one point (T3)
This was such an interesting concept, thank you!! OUGH I didn't realize my silly fix-it was capable of such angst until I started writing 😭😭😭 There's no graphic violence/gore, but still warning for Es pushing Muu around.
Muu’s tears for Haruka may not have been real, but these ones were definitely genuine. If anything, she’d been jealous that Haruka got to spend the majority of this trial in the plushy facility rooms with good meals, while the others were still in these cold cells. However, face-to-face with Es, who was grieving someone she cared just as deeply about, she found her sobs came easily.
“You could have stopped him.” Everything about Es was shaking – their voice, their hands, and as she would soon realize, their composure. “Why didn’t you stop him?”
“I d-didn’t know…” She covered her mouth, shaking her head frantically. “I didn’t -hic- think he would…”
“But you did!” Es’s arm flung out, knocking over their chair. The clatter rattled in Muu’s ears. “You knew, because we all knew!”
Muu leapt up, in part due to the clatter startling her, and in part to speak her piece. “Then why didn’t you stop it? If you -hic- if you had just –”
“If I had just what? Forgiven you?” They roared.
“O-o-or him!”
“You’re trying to pin the blame on me? How dare you!”
Es shoved her backwards. She gasped as she hit the concrete wall.
“But why -hic- why is it my fault? You let it happen, and he did, and Shidou, and everyone!”
“You really can’t take an ounce of responsibility, can you?”
Muu tried to flee, but as emphasis on their last words, Es pushed her again. She went flailing and grabbed onto Es’s uniform. The pair went tumbling to the ground, Es still trying to jerk her around. Muu winced at the pain as she slammed into the cold stone.
“Why are you doing this to me? -hic- It wasn’t me, I swear!”
“It was all you!”
Es was on top of her, their voice shrill and their eyes wild. She had always thought it was an exaggeration when Jackalope gave them notes to make their eyes look so intense and frenzied in their videos.
All of the sudden, she realized that people really do have that look when they’re ready to kill you.
“You monster!”
Muu’s vision sparked as Es’s palm struck her cheek. She’d never been slapped before. The sting seemed to seep all the way under her skin.
“People like you are –!”
Their words were cut short as Muu delivered a slap of her own. She hadn’t meant to. She’d been so focused on keeping her mouth shut, and not blurting out the best defense (“he’s not dead!”), she hadn’t even considered her self preservation instincts would kick in. Her whole body itched to throw Es off, to hurt them before they could hurt her. In all honesty, it was a miracle she’d only tried a slap.
The pair stared at each other with wide eyes. The shock had snapped Es out of their fury.
“But you… how…”
The prison bell rang, far earlier than it should have.
Muu shook her head. “I… don’t know…”
As the room changed shape around them – revealing intricate parts of machine that did absolutely nothing – she lay there crying. Crying about what Es had said. Crying from fear of them. Crying that she may have ruined the whole experiment. Crying because in every way, she had failed the people she wanted to help.
Es rose, stumbling away from her.
“Muu.” Their voice was hoarse. “I didn’t mean for things to get out of hand.” Their eyes flicked nervously to her, wondering what had caused this sudden breach of the prison’s main restriction. “Perhaps… Milgram makes exceptions when I’ve taken things too far. I… I didn’t mean to push you to that point.”
She nodded weakly, rising off the ground. She took her seat again.
There was a moment where they both sat in heavy silence; both afraid of what Es was capable of.
“Prisoner 004, sing your sins.”

If two waves head toward each other – if, for example, you and I each drop a pebble into the lake at nearby locations, producing outward-moving waves that run into each other – when they cross there results an important effect known as interference, illustrated in Figure 4.2a.
Tumblr media
Light is an electromagnetic wave; when it passes through the two slits, it splits into two waves that head toward the screen. Like the two water waves just discussed, the two light waves interfere with each other. When they hit various points on the screen, sometimes both waves are at their peaks, making the screen bright; sometimes both waves are at their troughs, also making it bright; but sometimes one wave is at its peak and the other is at its trough and they cancel, making that point on the screen dark. We illustrate this in Figure 4.2b.

[Deep beneath the waves, somewhere off the coast of Unova, we see a young boy standing in a dimly lit bathroom, gazing into his reflection. He takes in his current ragged and worn state. The shadows cast by the flickering bulb above the mirror seem only to deepen the dark spots beneath his eyes, and strands of black and dark purple hair haphazardly fall out of a messy bun, partially obscuring the right side of his face. His uniform's jacket hanging from his shoulders is pristine and new. (His old one had to be thrown out after he was unable to scrub out the bloodstains no matter how hard he tried.) The gash on his left cheek from where a stray attack grazed him has begun to scar, serving as a reminder of Area Zero and the danger he put himself and the others in. If she hadn't been there...
At the thought of her, his eyes flicker down to the heart-shaped ruby stone that now hangs around his neck. A bright scarlet that seems to almost glow with a light of it's own. Much like her eyes, or a harvest moon.
More than anything else though, it reminds him of blood in snow, red like you've never seen red before.
He grips the edges of the small bathroom counter tightly, breaths coming out in short gasps, a feeling of panic squeezing his throat in its grasps as his mind flashes back to the being connected to that gem. The girl who lied to him, stole all he ever dreamed of from him, and then took his title as Champion as well. The creature that saved him, shielded him from Terapagos's attack with its own body. His greatest friend, his most hated rival. The hero of this story, the monster in another. Something that is both human and pokémon, but also neither. Dead, but alive.
He's not scared of her, he tells himself. He can't be. He was never scared of the ogre, and, really, how is she any different? A being cast out by a village that feared and hated it through no fault of its own? It's no wonder why the ogre chose her, it must have seen something of itself in her. And she has been so kind, so understanding, so forgiving despite how cruel he had been to her and everyone around him. She saved his life and gave him a chance to start over. How could anybody ever be scared of someone so sweet? She's his best friend, and he loves her.
Try as he might, however, he is unable to deny the terror that clings to his heart when he thinks back to what he saw that night those four weeks ago, as the power of that pokémon he foolishly thought he could command warped reality around them. He cannot shake the feeling that the creature he witnessed before him was never meant to be seen by the living. Perhaps it is similar to a Mimikyu in that way? When it sheds its disguise, even the people who know it would never harm them feel an instinctual and overwhelming terror? He swears he can remember her telling him that those who see under a Mimikyu's disguise may suffer from strange illness and nightmares while he was accompanying her on one of her "Ghost Misadventures." If her situation is similar, that would explain why his rest has been so uneasy lately, plagued by visions of blood on snow and a purple flame burning bright and a red moon and gods of time and space and glowing red eyes staring at him in the dark beneath a mask of a pokémon he didn't recognize—
His sister's voice on the other side of the door slices through his thoughts. Hurry up already, it's time to go, she shouts. They have a long flight to Kitakami and they don't want to miss their plane. He blinks in surprise as a glance at his watch tells him he's been standing here just staring at his reflection for a startling thirty minutes. He shakily tells her he'll be out in a second, before quickly splashing cold water from the faucet in his face to clear his mind. As he turns to leave, though, his eyes flicker back to the scarlet gem hanging around his neck.
He tucks the necklace under his shirt, out of sight, before joining his sister in the other room to help move their luggage. They're going back home, to where it all began. Some time away from school, from the League Club, from everything, will be good for him, he thinks. Maybe he'll even invite her and her other friends, and they can just... hang out, and talk, like people, without any threat of danger from more ghosts or legendary beings lingering over their heads... That would be nice...]

Ahh, tv shows where I can't tell apart the male leads, my beloathed.
Seriously either we need to go back to lighting our sets more, or long hair on men needs to come back into vogue, because I can't keep living like this.
I can't keep taking two seconds to try to determine who is who every shot because I miss what's going on in the scene!
Controversial opinion, but you need to follow the silhouette rule in live-action projects too, at least in regard to characters in the same show or movie! If you absolutely *can't* hire actors with different heights, hair, or builds, you need to work something out with the costuming department to get a distinct shape!

fiance got me a kindle for my birthday <3
#val comes out of hiding#with a case and a grip strap (that interferes a little with the case but i'm making it work lol)#it'll be great for my arthritic sad poor hands lmao#and i can download ebooks to it! including fic <3#so like i have backup copies of my bookmarks and i threw them all on there#and threw one I planned to read on there too which i rb'd a few mins ago#it's great because we tend to be into those huge fantasy novels that I 0% can hold and take up a shit ton of space#like bringing brando sando books with me while traveling has been a PAIN lmao#now all i need is a battery pack to make sure it doesn't die. which is its own downside of course#and it means I can pirate so many ebooks. my god so many.#anyway to start with i think i'm gonna go back thru and re-read all my bookmarked fics i haven't read in a while#i'm quite stingy about bookmarks so they're all good (tho i have a soft spot for fluff in hindsight lol)#maybe i'll make a detailed rec post when i'm done?#in regards to fic too though I need to reach out to someone and say sorry for not being a very responsible beta.you know who you are.sorry:#but tangentially related; last night I had one of those core memory moments#it was bed time and fiance was snoozing half-asleep and i was reading fic on the kindle which works great in the dark btw. so dim#and i got up maybe 3 times in 30 mins or so go to the bathroom; get shit i forgot in the other room; etc etc#he's a light sleeper so he tends to wake up a lil#at some point he swapped our body pillows. i have no idea which time i got up it was. i didn't even notice for so long#i use a regular pillow and he has a longer actual body pillow so it was very obvious in hindsight#he loves to mess with me like that. little things make me laugh etc. and in the moment i realised i was just so happy#i'm here in this comfy bed with the man i love reading great fic with the gift he just got me and he's half-asleep and still trying to make#me laugh. and i laugh and laugh and laugh for like 5 mins because i'm so unobservant i didn't even notice it's not my pillow#and not even in a mean way. he loves that about me because he loves me. and he is just so good. so good.#and i was reading a fic about finding someone in any world. i would find him in any world. i would#and i just said 'i love you' and he cuddled into me and went to sleep.#<33333333333333333
