Sorry for my insane absence (again) I've been quite busy, however lucky for you guys I'm super sick which gives me a great amount if time to write asks so send them in.

STUPID MODERN AU HEADCANONS ALERT

-they all have one hideout they stay at after too many of their apartments kept getting raided. its…its chaotic sometimes.

-bill snores so fucking loud and sleeps on the sofas. he DOES have a bed, he just ‘rests’ his eyes during whatever he’s watching, spreads out and snores like hell. its the most infuriating thing, and arthur does not hold back when beating him with a pillow.

-however if it was lenny or one of the girls who’d fallen asleep on the sofa, lets just say hes sneaking back into the house after late night adventures, and he finds them, arthur would absolutely cover them with a blanket or even carry them to bed depending on how tired he was.

-the men of the gang have differing opinions on drugs, strippers, etc. some will absolutely spend their money on that, others will never even consider it. you gotta remember, this is a gang and theyre criminals.

-movie nights are very random as theyre all constantly in and out, doing this and that, but it is nice when a group of them can settle down and watch something. but you know theyre getting interrupted constantly, because lenny thinks that doesnt make sense and johns hungry and sean thinks theyre hot and tilly cant decide if she wants some of the blanket or not and micah’s just walked in and decided the whole ordeal is very gay etc etc

This is kind of an joke post (KIND OF) so dont take it to seriously. Its just my brain comming up with ridiculous ideas, so feel free to ignore me.

So you know, even long before the latest released chapter I always wondered as a dfo fan why afo married inko, because even if you consider some of the more popular conspiracy theories like the inko shimura or quirk marriage theory, afo NEVER had to MARRY her in the end. So why did he do it?

And after the latest chapter I think I finally got my answer: Dude lowkey hadnt realized that he had fallen in love. 🤣

Okay hear me out. The latest chapter confirmed that afo has no context or grasp what (selfless) love is, because he never experienced it himself. No parents, other guardians or friends to show him what love is or people in generell who showed and teached him kindness. Only a little weakly brother he felt a connection with he didnt fully understand and refused to let go since he was the only "possession" he had. Afo is unable to see the difference between (selfless) love and possession. Its not really something you can blame him for, thanks to the horrible enviroment he had to grow up in. To him possessing something means "love". He wants everyone to live for his sake just like yoichi. In other words he wants to feel loved and wants to love. But since he doesnt understand the difference between love and possession it seems so fucked up to us while for him it is normal.

Now back to inko. I have no idea how they could have meet. Maybe afo had his reasons to lay his eyes on her or maybe it was just a simple coincidence. No matter what it was, I like to believe that inko was not only the first person who showed afo kindness and support without the wish to gain something from him in return (like most of his followers do), but also was the first person who showed him what love (NOT possession) actually feels like.

It could be something incredible simple like touching his hand or his cheek in a caring/loving way and since nobody ever did that (if we consider his jealous reaction when he sees kudou and yoichi "holding hands" which I bet the brothers never did even as children) he would be so confused and wondering why that felt so nice and wants more of it. So he starts to obsess over her, because he enjoyed how she made him feel good (while still not getting what it actually is because he is just a mess 😅). They start to spend more time together while afo tries to find out what kind of miracle she is, what that strange feeling is when he is close to her, why his stomach feels funny and why he starts babbling nonsense every time she tries to hold smalltalk with him. 😆😆😆

So then imagine at one point afo does something kind to her in return (because he is slowly learning from her) and inko gives him a little kiss on the cheek and he is all like: WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPEND??? WHAT DID SHE DO??? WHAT WAS THAT??? IS THAT SOMETHING PEOPLE DO??? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW??? AND WHY DID THAT FEEL SO GOOD??? SHOULD I SAY THANK YOU??? WHY DO I WANT MORE OF IT??? I WASNT PREPARED FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!End result: brain.exe stopped working.

Afterwards he visits dr garaki and rants about all this strange feelings he has recently and believes he is actually sick and garaki is like: dude.... youre just in love and afo reacts like: OOOHHHHH............ and now? so. i played pentiment. writing this while at my 4th play (with my first and third as same stats, different accusations). bookworm, hedonist, bookworm again, and now businessman. having a lot of fun so far.

also, notably, in my 3rd run, during the conversation with father thomas for the christian tassing quest, a Vitae Sanctorum Magdalene can ask about the veracity of the story regarding the marian apparition, our lady of the labyrinth. when father thomas asks why she's pondering on it, if Magda is also of Volksbücher bg, she can bring up comparisons to a story she read about a man who tricked a town into believing a head he possessed was a relic from a saint. Father Thomas will then outright ask whether Magdalene thinks that it is valid of the guy to lie about that. Whatever you make Magda respond, he clearly values it. that fucked me up upon discovery, especially since i chose not to question the story of the church in my first run. that's outright foreshadowing, especially since that conversation literally takes place inside said church

anyways, i considered for a moment as to how conscious Sister Amalie was about the notes she wrote. to my fury (against thomas) and relief (for her), she was very unaware. fucking hell, i love christian mystics, and i outright ignored the implications of father thomas as her interpreter

like, i knew such interpreters would twist the testimonies of mystics to assert the church's authority, but. i assumed that this, like the obvious real-time historical revisionism in-game, was just shit that happens. not the core. another blow to my observation skills, but what matters to me is that i figured it out eventually

This one isn’t as long as the other ones and it took forever to get out because of a mix of writers block and busy scheduling, but I hope you still like it! Wasn’t sure if you wanted Beidou to be platonic or romantic, so you can read it either way.

Darling, no. Please no. They love Darling with all their heart, and they adore their drive, but no. They’re not going back to that place.

Sure, the Vision Hunt Decree is abolished, but Inazuma still isn’t a safe place! It’s littered with Specters, Rifthounds, Automatons- even with a Vision, Inazuma is still very dangerous!

Now, it’s not like they won’t ever let Darling leave the boat. If they behave well for long enough, they might let them walk around a bit, though there are quite a few rules.

First rule is that the entire crew must accompany them with a few crew members leaving the group only if necessary. Beidou and Kazuha are always by their side.

Second rule is no attending large gatherings, festivals, anything with too many people. The last thing they want is Darling getting lost or using the crowd to try to escape.

Even if Darling behaves really well and even with these rules, it’s still quite hard to convince either of the two to let them out.

Although they’re both overprotective, Beidou and Kazuha have slightly different reasons to keep Darling inside. Kazuha not only looks up to Darling as an older sibling, he also understands the want to go out and explore Inazuma. Although dangerous, it’s still such a beautiful place, and he would love to spend a day with them, have a picnic, stargaze, enjoying the little moments. But then he remembers everything that could pose a danger to them, and the thought of losing yet another friend is enough to convince him it isn’t worth it.

Beidou, though also protective, is more possessive than anything. Yes, she doesn’t want Darling to get hurt, but she also doesn’t want other people getting their grimy hands on them. If anything, she uses the dangers of Inazuma to push Darling into her arms. Not saying that she likes seeing Darling to be chased by a Hillichurl camp, but it does feel nice to have them run to her with open arms after she saves them.

But let’s imagine that Darling sneaks off the Crux. It’s to be expected; being cramped on a ship while their crew mates can come and go as they wish is sure to have Darling itching to go outside and admire the beauty of the outdoors themselves. Kazuha would be, for the most part, level-headed but still concerned for Darling’s wellbeing, wanting to go out and search for them as soon as possible. While Beidou’s reaction is relaxed with a smidge of irritation.

When Darling is eventually found, Kazuha will be checking them for injuries while Beidou seems… strangely relaxed. She teases Darling, throwing an arm around their shoulders and saying if they wanted some attention, they could’ve just asked.

It’s all fun and games with Beidou joking around until they reach the Crux. Darling’s breath hitches as she has the crew members fetch rope and prepare extra locks on Darling’s cabin. Her grip tightens and her ruby eyes pierce their very soul.

They aren’t leaving any time soon.

kai_ninjago appreciation hours

k gamer we need to talk about kai and how he is consistently the family man of the ninja and arguably the most emotionally mature of them all when it comes to family

i love kai so much. hes not the brightest, but he is the most loving out of all the ninja, even if it’s in his own way.

first up, presumably taking care of nya for years on his own. like, im sure the neighbors helped out, but he has gone on record saying that they mostly grew up on their own. this kid got “abandoned” by his parents. but even then, he lit lanterns with nya on day of the departed. even though he didn’t know what happened to them, he chooses to believe that they wouldn’t leave them willingly. that they’re still worth remembering and loving.

when it’s revealed that zane is a robot, kai is the first one there. “you may be a robot, but you’re still our brother.” being a robot doesnt change anything, and kai is the first one to make sure zane knows it, but is also the one to later tell the others “we just have to give him time. i don’t know how i’d feel if somebody told me i was a robot.” Like, he empathizes with zane! he tells zane he still loves him, respects zane’s wish to be given space, and expresses empathy with him. in ninjago decoded, kai even reveals that he often forgets zane isn’t human. zane is, at this point, made of titanium. and yet all kai sees is zane

ok and then there’s his true potential. what even is there to say about that one? how he realizes his purpose is to protect his family. he’s there to protect lloyd. the one that once left lloyd, flaked out on him. he realizes that no, this kid is everything to him.

when lloyd was climbing the tower to fight the overlord, kai was right there, ready to protect him. “there’s only one green ninja.” this is no longer about him, it’s about lloyd’s destiny to save the world. and he would do everything to make sure lloyd makes it through that

now. kai gets a lot of flack for being not that smart. and dude really aint. his mouth is a pistol with which to shoot himself in the foot. but when it comes to family? He’s one of the most eloquent there. In titanium ninja, he’s the one to first coin “this isn’t about numbers, it’s about family.” something that resonated with zane strongly enough that he would fight the overlord despite all odds.

And then the funeral. it wasnt wu to speak. or cole or jay or even lloyd, but kai. his speech is genuinely like... really good?

“Everybody wondered what powered Zane, and I don’t think we’ll ever know, but I’d like to think it was brotherhood. Because he powered me. And he still powers me. Wherever you are Zane, you’ll always be one of us.”

this is coming from a dude that probably can’t do long division or tell you what a prepositional phrase is. what kai lacks in book smarts, and even in typical maturity (he’s still very much so a teenager) he makes up for with this insane emotional intelligence specifically regarding family.

in season 4, he’s the one we see visiting zane’s statue. he’s the one that supports lloyd in spite of his crush on skylor (even cole and jay got distracted by their own squabbling, even if they did the right thing in the end) he’s the one that took NONE of skylor’s bullshit once she revealed having ice powers.

and he was so deeply hurt by her betrayal! he felt genuinely betrayed! he really trusted her, even though he probably shouldnt have, seeing as she tried to turn him against lloyd. but just like lloyd with harumi, kai saw the good in her. and his loyalty changed skylor.

then season 5. lloyd just had to banish his father. so kai does what he did once already: steps up to be there. telling lloyd that he’ll be there for him. and he is. he’s the one to get through to lloyd on multiple occasions when he’s possessed by morro after all.

season 7. kai is so genuinely hurt when he thinks his dad betrayed them. but once he knows they’re on his side, he’s so, so, SO genuinely relieved, and later doesn’t hold it against them that he and nya grew up alone, even though he does have plenty of right to do so, or to at least still feel hurt by it. no. he’s just glad to have them back.

i don’t remember season 8 very clearly, but kai being the one to answer cole’s questions about babies is pretty fun.

season 9 puts them through the wringer. at first, kai is actually the one freaking out the most, he wants to go home so badly, they don’t know what happened to lloyd. but when wu and hope are lamenting being tied to fucking stakes and left to die, kai is the first one to comfort wu. to start joking around to lighten the mood, which the others then piggyback off of. it’s kai that’s there to try and comfort him first.

season 10, cole’s fall. you can tell how badly kai wants to go back for cole, even when all logic dictates that they’d die. personally, i like to imagine that he told zane that “this isn’t about logic, it’s about family” to which zane might say “this is about the innocent lives on our ship” to which kai just. looks down in sorrow.

but when lloyd returns, they’re all silent. none of them want to tell lloyd what happened. it’s kai that breaks the news. it’s kai (and jay of course) that comforts nya when she blames herself. it’s kai that later goes to nya when she’s alone to tell her that it’s not her fault, and to push her towards moving past what happened, at least long enough that they can make it through this to grieve cole later. the one to reinforce to nya that cole wouldnt hold what happened against her (by offering her the scythe)

it’s just... it’s so consistently a part of kai’s character. i don’t know the second series enough off the top of my head to really point to specific examples. which is like, on me of course.

but when he lost nya, he channeled that into becoming a DOJO INSTRUCTOR for YOUNG CHILDREN. He saw his sister disappear, and decided to protect the rest of the children of ninjago, in whatever way he could: by making sure they could defend themselves, even if he’s not able to do it for them. it’s... honestly remarkably touching and poignant.

but like, shit, man. dragons rising NAILED big brother kai. the way he picks up lloyd and spins him around. he’s overflowing with so much love for his family. there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that he’d go through hell and high water for any of them. which is true of all the ninja, of course, but kai... he’s special

he’s the one that knows what to say. how to comfort someone. how to make someone feel loved. how to help someone grieve. even if he doesn’t always know how to handle that grief himself (see his time as the burning shogun)

the fact that he learned these skills from such a young age is tragic in its own right, but that he managed to turn his loss and strife into such a positive character trait is nothing short of amazing, and is such a sorely overlooked aspect to his character.

tl;dr - Kai is not only loyal to a fault, but also capable of comforting people and being there for them. He loves his family so much, and he’s one of the best at expressing that in the little ways and big ones.

My take is that is there is always this one sided obsession.

Thoughts on Maenys? — funny you should ask, because I have LOTS of thoughts about them. Mainly that they should have been able to fuck dirty in front of the faith.

I don’t think one is more obsessed than the other, just that their obsession shows in different ways. Aenys is needy and constantly craves validation. Maegor is possessive and wants to have what’s his at all times.

I think you’re absolutely right with Aenys having an idealized view on the relationship. Marriage would be an expectation of them as members of the royal family, especially with Aenys becoming king.

However, Maegor taking a second wife would be a slap in the face, essentially torching Aenys’ pretty picture of ruling with his brother by his side.

Maegor is stubborn though, I agree. When pressed with the choice, he would chose exile over admitting defeat. But I think keeping Blackfyre is a bigger testament - he is a dog with a bone. No, he’s no giving back his father’s sword, the sword his beloved brother had given him, the sword that he was meant to wield on Aenys’ behalf.

I think Maegor would challenge the faith as he does during his own reign if Aenys wasn’t so gullible and earnest in wishing to please everyone, including the faith.

I think if hori wrote toga better more people would like her but he hardly gives a shit about her so her story and personality and thoughts are messy (as in badly written) and nonsensical. I wanna like her but you have to do a lot of leg work to make her interesting and worth the time and love, Hori doesnt love her enough to but a lot of effort into her, unlike the other two male villains who he wont shut up about. Look Horikoshi has always had a problem of pushing aside the women in his series, the worst of this case has ALWAYS been ochako. Do I think that’s because he wanted to write a gay love story? He has fan service abundant, he makes crude jokes using women that really aren’t all that funny, he’s pushed aside his women and their moments in order to forward bkdk’s development.

People think toga is just “the blood sucking bisexual who likes animals too”, but she’s just fucking not. That’s never been her defining trait or character.

She’s going to be creepy and weird and have issues because she’s a villain. She’s a queer villain. Her entire story is one that defies the tragedy of carmilla and refuses to let her identity be anything but “Himiko Toga”. She has always been a character about identity. She’s never been “possessive” or “jealous” over Izuku for this purpose. It’s the reason why she’s bisexual, why she just “has an attraction to blood”. It’s a queer story wrapped in metaphor and it always has been. Why is THIS monster/villain queer story any worse than, idfk, the joker and Batman. I haven’t found a single person able to genuinely voice that to me in a way that is convincing! Horror and unconventional ways of love and ESPECIALLY blood has always always ALWAYS been a part of queer coded stories for a LONG TIME. We are the unconventional. We always have been. And that’s not me “bending over backwards” HER PARENTS LITERALLY CALL HER A DEVIANT AND SHE ASKS WHY NO ONE ELSE STRUGGLES WITH THE URGES SHE DOES.

When sky is crowned king of Eraklyon, this drives a wedge between him and bloom as he is always away doing his royal duties , not having time to spend with bloom. He is also known to get jealous and possessive at times (but not as bad as riven) The two of them work out their differences slowly even with their new roles as princess of Domino and King of Eraklyon. Sky gives her a promise ring in the second movie. And he proposes to Bloom with the Heart of Eraklyon in season 5. They finally get married at the end of season 8 (in my rewrite)

They started off with Brandon lying that he was Sky, not knowing that Stella is aware that he is not Sky. She is however very used to royal life and thus doesn’t question it until Sky and Brandon reveal the truth themselves. Stella doesnt mind that Brandon isn’t really the Crown Prince of Eraklyon and she likes him for who he is. Very It girl and It guy relationship. Stella is not prone to jealousy and she usually controls herself but the only way she expresses displeasure is by icing Brandon out. Over time they will learn to communicate more. Stella can be childish at times (her attempt to not? control what she can before she is Queen and has to control every aspect of herself to present as a good Queen) but Brandon handles her just fine. They get married at the start of season 8. When she becomes the Queen of Solaria, he becomes the King Consort of Solaria.

Even while bloom was on earth, she watched bloom grow up though kiko (who she cast a spell on before letting kiko go with bloom to earth) Bloom is grateful for everything Daphne has done for her and uses her sirenix wish to free her, they hug and stuff. But how she also compares herself to Daphne a lot especially since her parents are also back and they tell her about daphne as a child before getting cursed.

its pretty much implied canonically that uno does self harm. i didn't really paid attention to this at the start but since i started playing a year or so ago this really got my attention and i was intrigued as fuck

heres what i mean:

but for me thats a little beyond..uno can hurt himself to drink his own blood if hes out of people or creatures, and the implications on this are rather worrying

uno hurts himself to feed himself, but damn. hes a literal newborn and has passed to a bunch of traumatic things, he loved someone and lost her on the same day, he probably doesnt even know how to talk and doesnt know how to live by himself. this whole thing going on would absolute break someone's mind, especially since we are talking about someone who is an baby trapped into an adults body.

he doesnt know a single thing about life, he only knows about death, and he only knows HE caused all these deaths. he's an absolute monster, and he probably pretty much see himself as a nasty monstrous thing.

so, the odds that he would feel like he deserves to suffer, that he deserves to be hated and be abandoned, forgotten by the world, while still begging not to disappear are enormous, which would make him go on a depressive spiral

its not about staying alive anymore, its about feeling pain, its about making "him" feel what "he" deserves, its not he doing that to himself as a person, its about he doing that as the "hideous monster" who lives inside of him.

he probably got the catch of being a corrupted highlander, which mostly probably would give him a bigger resistence, even if hes not immortal, he wouldnt die so easily, especially if well fed, so, since he does hurt himself to eat (aka drink but this sounds weird for me while formatting so..lol), he would ABSOLUTELY hurt himself to suffer

i wonder how atrocious his body would look like if he stopped eating, he wouldnt have the strenght to renegerate anymore, so he would be a walking body, all visible bones, cuts all over his body, if not missing limbs

and to be honest? he would probably starve himself to death, he does not want to hurt people (or animals or monsters), he does not want to lose more people, he just wants to not disappear and live a normal life he was denied since the second he was born, he was forced into being this ugly monster he hates so much. and this monster is what will keep him alive, is what will force himself out of the control of his own body, is what will possess him into murdering more and more, at the point its only for fun, he doesnt need to be fed anymore

SENPAI??? yep. what i like to do with b-side versions of characters is to just switch a lot of things about them and then turn it into something cool! for example, rebecca is from a game where she isn't to be loved, but FEARED. she's from a cheaply-made horror game called "one night with rebecca". she is the only thing that hunts you in said game, but she was built with that learning technology that the hello neighbor people said they put in their game, only it actually WORKS. a little TOO well in fact. so well that she KNOWS she's in a game, and likes to break the fourth wall to scare people. everyone who plays the game has the same player model, that being of an adult. but if she WERE to find a child within the game itself, she'd be very protective over them. for example, her best friend...

meet my hc b-side spirit! much like the original, this one is a ghost stuck in a game. only he doesnt KNOW he's in a game, all he knows is the dark place that is the game's map. his name is- ...well he doesnt really remember. rebecca just calls him "bunny". he can laugh and squeak, but otherwise he is mute. and as such, he communicates by drawing! he doesnt usually cry like this, only when hes upset. he's very childish and innocent, and rebecca does NOT wish to tell him that their "home" isn't real because it'd break his heart. both of these fellas are heavily inspired by fnaf, as a spin on senpai's similarities to monika!

and here are some "kinda-look-corrupted-but-they're-mentally-the-same" versions of them for the b-side corruption au i have! in it, the game DOES get deleted, but rebecca's programming gets copy-pasted into a repainted irl replica of her in-game design(only her claws were updated so she can HOLD stuff now), and bunny's ghost winds up possessing a lil robo bunny that matches! bunny, renamed by the others as "bitzy", only supports the corruption because of sheer ignorance. and rebecca does it because the little guy is happy and that's literally ALL she cares about.

A frigid thumb brushed across her lips as a possessive glint flared in his stormy blue depths, fixated on every feature he wished to sink his fangs into as a symbol of ownership. To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in wealth and poverty, a wife should always remain with her husband, or so the Vampire foolishly thought after all the golden memories they collected like editions in a book series.

"Leave me, and I'll strike down everyone you interact with."

Their foreheads pressed together as Ruki lowered the volume of his voice, crazed with thoughts of monopolizing his wife all for himself.

"Everyone you speak with... Everyone you even look at, they'll be eviscerated instantly. The pool of blood at your feet will only grow larger with each step you take away from me. It will never dry, just as you continue to bleed for your master and your husband. I'll cut away all the branches that dare to encroach my flower, even if it means the flower wilts and withers in the process."

As his nose burrowed into her hair, the Vampire locked fingers with his beloved until crescent-shaped imprints burned past her knuckles from the brute force he exerted, permanently engraving his mark.

"Now, then. The night is still young, and I have to re-educate you from the very beginning until you're besotted with me all over again."

(Thoughts) Rupert - “Transactional” bonds

I just love how consistent Rupert’s characterization is. The slight manhwa change in Ch 111 bothered me (?) - not because it was bad, but because it highlighted Rupert’s current mindset on his relationship with Lari and how he thinks of ANY relationship with anyone is a transaction - if you want something, you have to give something in return that the other person wants.

This reflects his consistent characterization:

A master of alchemy, where the principle of the discipline is “equivalent exchange” - to use it, he must use a part of his life/blood for maximum strength and efficiency of a technique

He cared for his mother very much, and endured her abuse because studying hard and doing well, learning alchemy, ingesting poisons made her happy. He suffered all that and dealt with it, because he liked to see her “happy”, or at least satisfied/pleased, even if he knew she didn’t love him at all.

He wanted the position of emperor, so he did whatever the crazy Emperor wanted and more just so he could earn that position with his hard work and diligence.

He only trusts Tori because it’s ingrained in her the [order] to listen and serve him. Eva created her as a tool, and that’s it. He gives her orders, she fulfills them

He pays Louis a high salary for his loyalty and service.

He helps out Fassbender, in order to help obtain control over the merchant groups.

That’s his character: Rupert’s interactions with everyone around him involves some sort of give and take transaction. That’s all that he knows.

It’s stated over and over in the series that Rupert feels lacking in the sense he’s never known affection his whole life: He’s never received it from anyone, so he’s incredibly awkward when he tries to fulfill Lari’s request of being someone he cherishes.

But the thing is, just like any other emotion, “affection” comes naturally to him when he’s around Lari. For him, it naturally manifests as wanting to see her happy, healthy and safe. He wants to be with her all the time, so his only wish is that she stay by his side, and doesn’t expect anything from her. She just has to stay where she has been, as she has done over the years. He just wants to keep their current, comfortable every day life at the palace. But of course, he’s very anxious about that: if all he knows is a give-and-take relationship. What happens when Lari doesn’t want anything from him? He’s stuck. He feels he has nothing tangible to offer her. He tries to encourage her to think of something, ANYTHING she wants from him, to reassure him that she’ll stay. Rupert has absolutely no concept of the possibility of a selfless love, where a person can choose to be with someone just because they want to. He doesn’t even realize that that’s what he’s feeling towards Lari as well: he just wants to be beside her, he doesnt want anything from her. He doesn’t expect any special feelings from her either. As bad as it sounds, Rupert is ‘correct’ when he says that [He wants Lari]. It sounds so negative, so possessive and obsessive… but when you think about it, it’s because again, that’s all he knows because that’s what he’d experience with Crazy Emperor.

All he knows is that Crazy Emperor was obsessed with Eva, and wanted her so badly he ruined her. Rupert doesn’t realize that his own desire for Lari is different, because as horny as he is for her, he values Lari’s happiness above all. Yes, he has moments where he wants to grab her and kiss her and be intimate, and has a burning desire to touch her —- but he resists it every time, because he knows Lari won’t consent to it and will hate him if he goes out of bounds. That detail is soooooo important, because it makes him leaps and bounds different from the crazy Emperor. Rupert cannot become him, as he truly loves Lari and cannot hurt her in any way, because he cares for her to the extent where if she’s hurt, he feels hurt too, and if she’s sick and dying, he feels miserable as if he’s the one hurt too. That’s the lesson that Rupert learns during the separation: of what he truly wants from Lari, and what he wants from her too.

That’s what makes manhwa chapter 111 so powerful to me, is because Rupert doesn't recognize the extent of his feelings. He almost lost Lari to the fire, and he’s about to lose her (seemingly) forever again. He’s so desperate, begging her to tell him what she wants, he will give it to her. If she hates him she can hit him, if she wants everything he’ll give it all to her. This is so powerful, in that he’s now the Emperor, he has everything, he’s at the top of it all - but in one moment, he’s literally on his knees, begging her to reconsider her decision and offering EVERYTHING he has - his life, and his life’s work. It’s just so messy, desperate, pathetic even that he has to grovel like that. He stood strong towards everything, but now he’s just a weak, pitiful, kid begging a powerless girl not to leave.

But again, Rupert’s current relationship with Lari is just so vague and uncertain. Whatever their fragile bond was, couldn’t last and inevitably would break off (in this case, super dramatically). It’s also so powerful to see Lari be upset at Rupert’s desperation: she still doesn’t want anything from him, She doesn’t WANT to see him grovel and beg her for anything. She doesn’t want a relationship like that, where it’s something give or take. So she’s firm and says no, and leaves. And of course, Rupert loves her too much, so he allows it even if he doesn’t want to. Because he can’t bear it to be the reason if she’s sad and crying all day. He will never force or trap her in any way for her to choose death again.

Unfortunately, while a lot of his current thinking is from his experience, another part is an emotional block from Eva: she had told him that as long as he’s alive, no one will love him. After all, he’s an unwanted bastard child, whose mother didn’t love him either. He’s a fake, how could ANYONE love him? So he internalized that for years, and had no expectation that ANYONE, even Lari, would even see him positively like that. So he chose to just be nice to her, cherish her the best he could because she requested it, and also because he wanted to be nice to her and treat her well. The moment we find out Rupert’s lightbulb moment during the separation where he FINALLY, finally realizes that he should try to earn Lari’s affections and have her like him back…. Is such an awkward, “wow you are such a loser/dork Rupe…” moment because it’s just THAT obvious. IN his 19 years of life, Rupert NEVER considered the possibility that Lari could fall in love with him, he didn’t make particular efforts to woo her, didn’t think of a romantic relationship with her until after she left. It literally took him FOREVER to figure out such a simple thing (its ok rupe, I love how dorky you are, ur a learning boi ^^)

But yes, I find the moment where Rupert learns that not all love is a transatctional give -or-take, but rather romantic love exists, especially a selfless one where two people mutually care for each other and doens’t want anything from the other (except to be together) is a thing. Because it’s so rewarding to see Rupelali as a couple later: Lari chooses to be with him because of love; she doesn’t want anything from him, except to be with him and support him as always. Same with Rupert - he only wants to be with her, doesn’t expect anything from her, but also gives her the greatest possible gift: he allows her to continue living life how she wants = her freedom, independence, and maybe continue to include him in “her world”. :)
