i gotta say one of my biggest pet peeves on this planet is people who REFUSE to do anything to help themselves or take any type of advice on their situations and continue to complain about it and/or make other people go out of their way to accommodate problems they could easily fix or help like 🔪 either try to help yourself or shut up. my god.

My landlord broke the news to me that he might have a potential buyer on the property I, and my neighbors, live in and that I have a YEAR to find a new place or my rent is gonna increase dramatically (again)…

#personal #Happy Monday to me!#My one neighbor is elderly/lives on Section 8/is poor and I know is gonna try and encourage him to not do so. She’s gonna be devastated.#My landlord hasn’t even dropped the news to her yet because even he knows she will be.#Worse comes to worse I’m gonna have to move back in with my mom and her boyfriend. That’s absolute worse case scenario.#<- And I might have to because rent prices are outrageous even here.#Now would be a good time to jump ship and move somewhere else like a different city.#However I would have to find a new job as mine is local and I’d lose my insurance and it would be a mess. I DONT want that.

so how's everyone else's saturday night going

#the first time was in college #my poor choice of living in the 'party' apartment complex #that dude was like. practically non-verbally drunk. had to call an ambulance for him.#he eventually did wander his ass back to the correct apartment #which meant the cops broke up their party #rip #tonight i was just getting ready for bed #and i heard something thumping around #and thought it might be the neighborhood cats having an altercation #or maybe the neighborhood fox #which you would think would prevent people from letting their neighborhood cats run loose at night but no #sadly it was none of those things #it was a drunk guy #who was convinced that my house was actually his house #and was trying to let himself in #fortunately a neighbor had seen him wandering around in the street #and called the cops already #anyway i got myself one of those things that you jam under your doorknob #to brace your door so people can't get it open #10/10 best $40 i've spent #because my dumb ass forgot to lock the front door #but i did remember to put my brace up #and the dude did not get in #i should get a second one for my bedroom now that i'm paranoid #i should write the company a review

I am so glad emergency vets are a thing

#tw for dog injury and mention of blood #Obi my dad's cattle dog cut himself super bad on some scrap metal in the neighbor's yard #Obi just barreled through it without any hesitation #i think my dad is going to ask the neighbor to clean it up bc it's right next to our yard #but anyway Obi was in bad shape #he was bleeding more than ive ever seen anyone bleed #he hit a vain in his back leg and i had to hold pressure the whole way to the vet #which was about a half hour (which was the closest one)#Obi is okay now #he's still at the Vet under observation #they had to sedate him so they could sew him up but I'm pretty sure he's going to be fine #he'll just have to take it super easy for the next few weeks :(#but god there was so much blood guys #i was covered in it by the time we got to the vet #i had my hand wrapped around his leg pinching the artery as tight as i could #which poor Obi did not enjoy #mind u i used to rick climb so my grip strength is above average #he also had a bad cut on his front leg and my mom was holding that #i didnt even have shoes on we rushed out the door so quickly #at the vet i left a bigger blood trail than obi did bc it was on my socks and clothes #my hands were coated in blood too :(#we grabbed a towel but i wasn't able to get it on the wound bc i was basically using my hands as a shitty tourniquet #my husband got left at home and he ended up cleaning all of the blood off the floor and he's surprised he was able to without feeling faint #my youngest brother was with him and he did almost pass out #my dad is in rough shape he just wants Obi to be okay #my dad said “i dont care how much it costs please save my dog”#which like same but also we're not exactly well off x_x or even okay financially #so it's gonna be a hard few months as we work to pay it off #so anyway how was ur Saturday night? x_x

#Creepy chatter #My yeehaw school required every one of us to be musical little babies #You could spot the choir kids bc they never were hauling instrument cases #And we had like monthly concerts since every student was guaranteed to be in band choir or orchestra #I remember my mom heavily suggesting I pick smth small like a flute on instrument day #And I came home with a trombone as big as me like :3 #I could only practice at school tho lmao...my poor mom was only thinking of our neighbors in the building #Then I ended up doubling up w french horn after riding as 1st chair trombone for a year and a half #I was 1st chair frenchie for the rest of middle school but I think trombone was more fun #French horn is definitely prettier to me though #String instruments have never made sense to me but boy howdy can I toot

So, after watching the anime and reading the manga after seeing the live action I have a few issues with how they did the Arlong Park section (though it's still a super good adaptation overall). Some of them are bigger then others so I'll start with the smallest addition that bugged me even the first time I watched--Nami's chain.

First of all it just doesn't make sense, especially since they changed it so it was Nami who approached him on making maps and getting money for her village. Why would he chain her in a room to do the thing she already promised him to do? Also if he's afraid of her running away, why does he ever let her leave to steal money to buy the village at all?

It doesn't even make sense in manga cannon where he made her make maps for him, because she genuinely has no where to go and Arlong knows that. Arlong is no genius, but I think him using a chain on Nami makes him look stupid. The village people have already kicked her out, and in the LA even her sister hates her. Arlong knows she cares about the village because she's willing to risk her life to get the money to buy it from him. She can't run away because she knows he'll kill the villages in retribution, while she can't even really go home because everyone hates her for 'joining' his crew.

She essentially only has Arlong as a life line no matter how awful he is. He doesn't need to put a chain on her to keep her there because she needs him, both because she needs to buy back the village to save everyone, but also because when she returns to the Island Arlong Park is the only place she can go (especially in the LA where her sister hates her and wouldn't let her sleep in their old house).

The second reason it bothers me is because I can almost guarantee it was added because they worried the audience wouldn't understand just how bad Arlong was to her without him being more physically abusive. That or think the audience would criticize Nami for not leaving as a child. Plus it adds more angst to Nami's character--that was most likely why they changed it to her sister hating her as well.

The thing is I really don't think it was needed. Arlong was bad enough to Nami as it is. She was under constant psychological abuse due to Arlong holding the lives of the villagers over her head. Every injury she got because she was stealing money is his fault. Later during the Fishman Island Arc she has a flashback of the crew not feeding her. We have Arlong shoving her face into her desk because she purposely (or maybe accidentally) misdrew a map. He only started to treat her better as she grew up, but even then it was always clear he saw her as lesser and enjoyed mentally torturing her when he was given the opportunity.

Nami didn't need to be chained for her pain to be 'bad' enough. Her life was already terrible. She was already a victim of abuse, both physical and mental. The chain adds nothing and doesn't make sense in either the LA or the Manga's story.

Third, it does leave a sort of bad taste in my mouth that given the fish-men were coded more as black in the LA, that they had essentially a black coded character (played by a black actor) chaining up a white girl. It feels even worse when they added Arlong constantly talking about fish-men slavery--making it clear from the get go that's why he hates humans. That entire thing is it's own can of worms, but at least to me it does come across as kind of off-putting. When it adds nothing, and easily didn't have to be included it just makes it feel worse.

#one piece #Arlong #op Arlong #Nami #op Nami #live action one piece #idk i think i just don't like how often writers add in physical abuse to add more angst for the character #because they don't think the audience will take the abuse seriously otherwise #even when it doesn't make sense #like in HP it never made sense to me just how physically bad the Durslesy's treated Harry #cuz one of their few character traits was that they wanted to look better then their neighbors and were huge snoops #like realistically these people would be parading Harry around as their charity case and 'aren't we so great that we took this poor boy'#that doesn't mean they wouldn't be abusive #they wouldn't get him gifts unless it was to look good and I'm sure they would let Dudly bully him #and they certainly wouldn't love him--it'd only be an act out in public #but i just don't think JKR thought that would be bad enough #or that her kid readers would understand why Harry wouldn't be happy with them #and they really only get worse in later books with putting bars on his window--like how is that gon'na make them look good to the neighbors #and not get them the gossip around town?#the chain is also stupid because why would Arlong not trust a 10 year-old with zero skills to come back #but be fine with Nami coming and going once she's older and more capable of making it on her own?#and way more likely to become embittered to the villagers who hate her and leave them to Arlong's fury while she gets free #like honestly in the LA Arlong's lucky Nami's a really good person because those people were all awful to her #and given all the shit she had to go through it's shocking that she didn't just say 'fuck you guys I'm out!'#like in the manga it makes sense cuz her sister still loves her and they're still close #so in the very least she's got some support #Also like just lock the door #if she can pick a door lock she can pick a chain lock

on the one hand im very thankful for microchips because if one of my cats got outside i would be devastated if they werent microchipped and nobody had any way to find me as their owner to bring them home but on the other hand i wish they didnt exist so that i could steal this poor crusty old as shit outdoor cat that i Know has an owner and just keeps letting him out and he keeps getting sent to the shelter because he looks like ass. but if i stole him the vet would scan his microchip and be like hey wait a minute
