An ask for when you get back from errands!! Could you tell me some of your headcanons about Hakuhiro and/or Shibazami ships? :D

Hi moth thanks for the ask! Sorry I didn't answer sooner, I came home late last night really tired, but I cooked something good! I'll share some headcanons for both!

This is gonna be long so I'm putting a read more. Also there's some slightly 🔞 ideas for shibazami.

For shibazami:

• This song came up on my Spotify just yesterday but Feel by Fletcher is a Shibazami song to me, from Azami's POV.

• They seem like the type of "couple" that can never figure out what they want from each other. They're stuck in this situationship by design because neither of them wants to be the first to admit that he actually loves the other out loud, and they will keep it that way until there's an incident that makes them acknowledge that it's not worth keeping that distance between each other and they finally confess.

• Imagine Shiba finding Azami all bloody on the floor almost lifeless, and thinking he wasn't fast enough to come save him, like a repeat of Kunishige.

• Shiba got Azami hooked on smoking after Kunishige died and it becomes a bonding thing for them. I imagine Azami being the most straight-laced of the trio, so when they were teenagers, he scolded Shiba for smoking and thought it was disgusting and told him the dangers of smoking. But that day or maybe the next day after Kunishige's death, Shiba visits Azami and tells him what happened, and Azami asks Shiba to give him a cigarette. Shiba is hesitant because he's always respected Azami's dislike of smoking and never did it in front of him, but Azami is begging him to give him one now. "You said it's a stress reliever, right? Well, I think you can make an exception this time." And Shiba won't argue with him about it because it's not just him who's mourning and angry for Kunishige, Azami is too, so he takes one and lights it for him.

After that, every time they meet, they light a cigarette, and that's the only time Azami smokes.

• Speaking of smoking, they definitely do the cigarette kiss. This idea comes from that one fan art from the server hehe.

• I don't think they would do any of the typical couple things, like go out to fancy dinners or hold hands public (no PDA in general), but they do show their affection in more subtle and private ways. For example, whenever Shiba gets injured after a fight, he goes to Azami's place because he knows he'll be there and help him clean his wounds, even though Shiba is more than capable of doing it himself. It's something they picked up while in the war and they never let go of it since then.

• The one "couple-y" things they do and everyone is well aware of is that they bicker, and it's basically foreplay to them. I bet when Shiba was still in the Kamunabi, they would bicker about anything, even something mundane or pointless, because it gets them riled up and then they go to their secret hiding room to fuck.

• Similarly, your fic got me thinking that they would definitely play all kinds of games to get each other riled up and in the mood. Like the interrogation thing was perfect!

• I keep going back to the smoking thing, but it's hot! I don't personally like smoking irl, but it's really hot in fiction. And I think teen Azami would initially hate the smell of it coming off Shiba, like yeah he didn't smoke in front of him, but he still reeks of cigarette smoke. But as they get older and they get closer, Azami comes to associate that smell with Shiba, and that mixed with his sweat and whatever fancy cologne he wears is intoxicating to him. (Wait omg Azami with a scent kink?? 👀)

• The whole "they don't really do romantic couple things" was thrown out the window, temporarily when they were in the war. It was an unspoken thing between them that they wouldn't show any kind of affection, whether in public or even in private, because it would get dangerously close to them being an actual couple, and neither is willing to step over that line. Like even after they fuck, the kissing and soft touches stop. But, an exception was made when they were in the war where they would cuddle. At first, it was just a practical thing because "it's for warmth" or whatever, but they get so used to having that sensation of close comfort that it just continued, even when it wasn't cold outside. But once they came back from the war, their situation went back to their "normal" state. They both secretly miss it though.

Overall, I think they have an intense codependency that can get toxic.

• Shiba seems like he's a smooth talker and flirty, and Azami probably gets a little jealous, even though Shiba never actually goes through with dating other people. The only person who knows Shiba so intimately is Azami, now that Kunishige isn't here.

• This idea is partly inspired by one of your other fics! Shiba and Azami would look to the relationship that Hakuri and Chihiro have and simultaneously find it endearing and hopeful, but also something they wish they had. They aren't the perfect "couple" and they probably like it that way, or just got accustomed to it, but they look to HakuHiro as an example of something they could've been if the circumstances were different: a healthy, loving, and supportive couple. Kunishige was the glue that kept them together, and now that he's gone, they fell apart, and though they tried, they couldn't find a way to make it stick like before.

"No, they're not, they're more."

This whole yap session is mostly influenced by the Shibazami hivemind, fueled by pure imagination. (I already shipped them before, but it wasn't to this level until the server spread their ideas lol)

Hokazono, give us the Hidden Inventory-style flashback already! More Azami and Shibazami fuel in the next arc please!

For HakuHiro:

• I've already said how I think they're each other's first friends, but I'm gonna go ahead and take this even further and say they're each other's first everything. They're just so in sync, it just makes sense to me.

• At the end of chapter 44, Hakuri still has that mentality of wanting to be useful or valuable to others, to Chihiro in particular. Obviously, I didn't expect him to immediately overcome that because he got a power up and stood against his abusive family, it's not an easy thing to break away from. He even says that despite everything, his father was his guiding star, but now he's lost again. I'm hoping that if Hakuri gets to be included in the upcoming arc, Chihiro will be his new guide, and over time, break out of that mentality.

IDK if that counts as a headcanon, it's just something I want to happen in canon.

• I haven't decided whether I like Shiba giving each of them dating advice unprompted is funnier or if the boys each ask Shiba in secret. If they never had friends before, they certainly never dated, and this goes in line with being each other's first everything. Now I wonder if his advice worked or not because does Shiba even have any dating experience outside of Kunishige and Azami? And the situationship he has with Azami doesn't make him an expert in dating.

• Hurt/comfort is my favorite trope, and I think HakuHiro would always try to help heal each other's wounds, whether they're physical or emotional. They just care about each other's well-being.

• This is more of a Hakuri centered headcanon, but I think since he never really knew what it was like to be loved by his siblings in a healthy way, Hakuri would be very nurturing towards Char. It's like he's getting a second chance at being a brother. Chihiro sees them from a distance playing in the park together and how much fun they're having after experiencing rough childhoods, and he finds joy in their joy.

• Chihiro teaches Hakuri how to cook. I imagine that Hakuri either never got to eat with his family as punishment for failing at his training, so he made his own basic food and ate alone. Or, he was only invited to sit at the family table for meals so that the Sazanamis could keep up the appearance of being a well-adjusted family. In that context, the family chefs would make their food, so he never learned how to make anything for himself. Either way, he would be bad at cooking, so whenever they would have some down time from training and collecting information, Chihiro would teach Hakuri how to cook. And once he thinks he's good enough, Hakuri makes dinner for everyone as a thanks.

Hmm, I didn't think I had so much to say about Shibazami compared to HakuHiro, but I think it's in part because they have such a long history together, and Hakuri and Chihiro are just in the beginning of their friendship, but I have a feeling this won't be the end for them.

Thoughts on baela/aemond, baela/aegon, rhaena(?)/aemond

I'm going to talk about their show versions, since they interacted more there. Honestly, anon, I am not convinced that Aemond and Aegon look at Baela and Rhaena favourably and I think the feeling is mutual. I'm not policing anyone's shipping preferences, but, as it stands, I don't think it tracks.

So, if you're really into these ships and don't want to read any counter-arguments, you're welcome to just not click any further.

So my arguments basically stem from the fact that both Aegon/Aemond and Baela/Rhaena had such an awful first impression of each other, that it very much coloured their perceptions in a negative way. This is not a drag on Baela or Rhaena, this is about how each person appears to the other based on a very high-stress, high-stakes incident that was handled very badly by every party, including their adult parents.

These people have never met before Laena's funeral and, after that, they spend another 6 years apart and meet each other exactly one more time before the war starts. When assessing each other, they really don't have a lot of information to work with; the fact of the matter is that they don't truly know each other, so perception is really all they're got here. How someone truly is and how they genuinely act in other social contexts and with other people is irrelevant in this particular situation.

Aemond's POV

The girls attacked Aemond first in the cave and wrongly accused him of stealing Vhagar, he insulted them and hit them back in self-defence. Then they all kicked him when he was on the ground. Baela and Rhaena did retreat at one point and called for de-escalation, but the entire incident left him eyeless and traumatized.

The girls couldn't have known that Jace & Luke had previously bullied Aemond, but, in his mind, I would find it reasonable for him to associate them with his childhood bullies and perceive them as antagonistic. It wouldn't really matter how the girls are in real life, since Aemond's sole interaction with them amounted to literally the worst moment of his life. They could be the sweetest children in Westeros, would a maimed Aemond really care?

He is then the singular narrator of his tale back to his family. He's gonna tell his mother and siblings that Baela and Rhaena attacked him too. They didn't gouge his eye out, but that doesn't change the fact that he lost said eye as a result of a fight they started.

Six years later, he isn't rude to them the next time they see each other, but he acts completely disinterested and doesn't even spare them one (1) glance. The girls don't apologise for what happened either or approach him in any way. Judging by how much of a pressure cooker Aemond is about this issue, I very much doubt he would be keen to interact with people who'd take Luke's or Jace's side. He doesn't react in any way at the news of their betrothal, not when Rhaenys announces it in court, not when Viserys mentions it again at dinner and not when Helaena toasts to them.

Aegon's POV

Aegon has even less interaction with Baela and Rhaena, but I would argue that he basically insinuates himself into Aemond's beef with his attackers.

We can see that the maiming turned Aegon against Jace and Luke, but what about Baela and Rhaena then? At the funeral, Aegon is not seen acknowledging them in any way, is bored AF and gets drunk as soon as possible. He is then woken up in the middle of the night, most likely still half-drunk & feeling like shit and aggressively interrogated by Viserys. All because a bunch of brats attacked his brother, now he has to watch the maester stitch up half his face and protect his mother from his own father. This is literally his divorce from Jace and Luke, but the girls get off the hook even though they also beat up his brother? People seem to forget Aegon also got put in the spotlight because of a fight Baela and Rhaena started. Let's be real for a moment - would someone with Aegon's personality and in Aegon's situation absolve the girls of any guilt?

At dinner, Aegon decides to antagonize Jace by directing his dumb sex jokes to Baela. Yes, it's Jace he particularly wishes to rile up, but he doesn't care enough to not be vulgar to Baela and he's not even trying to hit on her. Not that those crass comments would be OK in any situation, but he only sees her as vehicle to insult Jace. Aegon is showing us how boorish he is; evidently, he's not above harassing the girls just to annoy their boyfriends. When his first attempt fails, he keeps going. He's not going to stop until he garners a reaction.

When Baela throws hands at him after he smashes Luke's face in, he goes to her and makes a ridiculous "boo" gesture at her, as if he finds laughable the notion that she could fight him. He doesn't think it cute, he's mocking her. Later on in the books, Baela attacks him with her dragon, further injuring him and Sunfyre. As punishment, he wants to behead her (twice??) I think it's safe to say he & Baela are too antagonistic towards each other in order to get along. She'd only end up pissing him off.

Rhaena he completely and utterly ignores. But had she and Luke been seated next to him, I'm pretty certain he would have harassed Rhaena to get at Luke. In the books, she spends the war in the Vale and they don't interact any further.

Baela's & Rhaena's POVs

This one is rather easy. What would Baela and Rhaena even see in Aemond or Aegon?

They probably (and rightfully) think Aegon is a lecherous drunkard. Why would they want a relationship with this ratboy?

They think that, by claiming Vhagar, Aemond took away the last part of their mother they had left. They feel Rhaena was entitled to try to claim Vhagar first, even though she might very well have been burnt to a crisp in the attempt. If they ever had a change of heart on that topic, they never voice it out loud. They don't apologise to Aemond or even look regretful, so they must not feel responsible for what happened or think he should just get over it. They sit at a table next to an eyeless boy and act like they had nothing to do with it. When he has his outburst, they must think it unjustified and out-of-place.

Moreover, they never really look preoccupied with Aegon or Aemond in any way. They appear pleased to be with Jace and Luke. Baela, at least, both in the books and in the show, seems to be a die-hard Rhaenyra stan herself. Rhaena is shown to be similarly predisposed - she offers Rhaenyra a cup of wine in a show of support when she comes to attend the council. That would really just drive Aegon and Aemond up the wall. Baela & Rhaena don't seem in any way willing to defect and, likewise, they really don't come across as secretly pining for the village alcoholic and his anime villain sidekick either.

it's only fitting that viserys' model that he obsessed over and meticulously built, almost as a crutch for stability after aemma died is destroyed by the firstborn son he totally ignored. good riddance.

getting to see the povs of several smallfolk (addam & alyn, hugh, mysaria) is a welcome touch and was sorely lacking in s1.

the struggle (internal & external) of being a kingsguard has always been so fascinating to me and i think i appreciate what they're doing with criston cole ... but i think it would've resonated better if he wasn't written to be a caricature instead of a multifaceted person.

the fight between erryk and arryk surprisingly worked for me.

the reasonable suspicion but tentative solidarity between rhaenyra and mysaria was a nice touch!

the blowout argument between daemon and rhaenyra was totally unexpected, in that i didn't think the showrunners would actually acknowledge in-universe that it's a toxic unhealthy relationship, but what a pleasant surprise!

no, seriously, even though i couldn't care less about rhaenyra, she deserves better than daemon. god, if only she'd married harwin strong. hindsight 20/20.

her calling him pathetic was 👌👌👌

baela getting a conversation with not one but two separate people and admitting her frustrations with her father was wonderful to see. more of that please.

i take issue with the framing of jaehaerys' funeral being a villainous pr stunt to gain sympathy ... when there was a public funeral for aemma in the first season.

alicent calling helaena "my girl" as she breaks down sobbing is the reason why you hire olivia cooke as a seasoned actress. BECAUSE SHE'S GOOD AT HER FUCKING JOB.

calling it now: if otto makes it back to the Reach in one piece, he's going to join the Caltrops conspirators. 😈

kinda surprised that they gave us a scene where middle-aged intimacy isn't played for a joke and felt completely natural between eve and steve.

conversely, i could do without alicole sex. no more. no thank you.

that moment between aegon and helaena on the stairs implied so much with so little. like, yes, this is a brother and sister who don't know how to express genuine love and care for each other. not because they're incapable of feeling it, but because they were forced into this incestuous marriage neither of them wanted and are doomed to be part of a family that simply cannot function as one.

the daeron mention was welcome, but the dialogue felt too clunky. plus, the show just now mentioning him kinda feels like an afterthought because so many people online were clamoring for him since he wasn't in s1. they should've just left in the scene where young!aemond asks otto about daeron during the funeral on driftmark. would've been better. 🤔

speaking of aemond ... while i appreciate seeing my beloved in little to nothing, WHY THE FUCK DID THEY SHOVE HIM BACK AT THAT BROTHEL MADAM?! if you're gonna imply that he has a thing for older women (which is totally normal and doesn't need to be oedipal), then just wait to shove him at alys rivers. this fucking show. 🤢

while i enjoyed the episode and thought it was an improvement over the premiere, i will remain skeptical until i see the finished product that is s2.

Hello hi please give me your thoughts on last life Martyn lore. DUDE I thought he was like, one of the only "good" people on the server, because in the last episode he acted genuinely concerned with Scott about the possibility of a wither on the server, but then BAM! Secret Alliance to ✨the moon✨ (and conveniently Ren)??? Literally none of the Southlanders have a *clue*, I don't even think anyone brought up/noticed how he was missing a life after he came home?? Ohoho I love this man

I'm not sure about the "good" people thing because morality on Last Life is dubious anyway but I do get what you mean, he did seem to have people's best interests at heart mostly. (and also just didn't want Grian to have a Wither because that's bad news for everyone really)

I do have to mention that the Southlanders did notice his life was gone, it was just cut out of some of the POVs. It's in Martyn's and Impulse's, when they're about to do the life trading circle thing

Impulse: Wait, when did Martyn die? Martyn: No, I didn't die, I got cornered. Impulse: Huh? Martyn: Yeah, I got cornered by the fairy fort lot. They basically tried to accuse me of burning down the place and then, yeah. It was basically, they were either gonna kill me or I just give them a life anyway, so I thought rather than causing too much drama and getting into a fight, I just had to give it out. Mumbo: I feel like it would take a lot for me to give my life, actually. Martyn: It was a 3v1 situation. And then they had Cleo lurking around as well, and as you can see, Cleo is now back up to yellow.

So he's obviously just making things up here, but he mentions in his POV that he thought it'd be good not to lie about the fact that the fairy people involved, just cover up the actual reason why he gave them the life. They're then interrupted by Lizzie getting Spooky Scary Skeletons in chat as Scott gives her a Wither skull, and continue their life trading circle, so it ends up not being discussed further.

Anyways! Yes! Martyn lore! There is SO much that I constantly think about. There's his "lore voice"/entity thing that carried over from 3rd Life and his teaser video on Twitter that shows up sometimes and I just. have so many thoughts about it. very long post up ahead

There's the Twitter video, which I was actually just having another look at, and I noticed that--

Long have we waited.. A hunger grows.. Surpass them all.. Take friends for foes.. Live not for others.. Invest in one.. For if they fall Ere will be done!

--abbreviates to LAST LIFE! he gave us the name of the series before it had even started what the hell

Then there's him seeing Ren in session 2:

Sacrifice those that landed Lessons acknowledged Can claim flags among ashes..

not sure about these three lines :( messing around with an anagram solver gave me LAST ACT but i highly doubt that that was intentional. not sure what these are about. they might just be literal but i'm still having a hard time interpreting them. There does seem to be a general theme of the entity wanting Martyn to win Last Life at all costs, "lessons acknowledged" might be about him learning his lession from 3rd Life where he got too attached to Ren and was no longer willing to betray him to win. not sure though

so! interesting! huh. (i am so incredibly normal about renchanting duo /lie)

Next, there's him talking to Team BEST in session 4:

Tell a lie.. Sow the seed Undermine Know and free It must be done!

This abbreviates to TSUKI (月 / "moon" in Japanese) and also doubles as the voice telling him to sow doubt among the others, because this is followed by him writing a note to make Tango distrustful of Impulse

At the end of session 4, Ren and Martyn talk with the Lore Filter on screen and do some vaguely cryptic roleplaying. Notable quotes are "The dog, the shadow, the roots. We make this place burn." and "They will feel it all under the eye of the moon." The dog is obviously Ren, the shadow might be Lizzie, and I suppose the roots might be Martyn? because inthelittlewood? tree? plant? roots? I don't know this one is a bit of a stretch and I'm not entirely sure what he's talking about here but it sure is a thing that he says. And then the other quote is another moon thing!

Next session, Jimmy steals Martyn's life during the Southlands' trading circle thing, and the entity shows up while Martyn is chasing Jimmy:

FORGET THE RULES THE OPPORTUNITY RETRIEVE IT NOW THE REST WILL AGREE END THIS BETRAYAL DO NOT LET HIM ESCAPE!!!

don't see any code in here, and I think this one was pretty literal anyway - get his life back by any means necessary, or kill Jimmy so he can't have it. That seems in line with how the entity has acted so far - win Last Life at all costs.

One interesting thing is also the fact that his lore filter shows up for no reason when Scar puts him in a hole underground while telling the Southlanders about his soul shop and it seems so unnecessarily cryptic?? why is the Lore Screen on you are sitting in a dirt hole sir

He also has some fun robes for the Shadow Alliance that he's now secretly a part of! would you look at that! what's that on the back?

IT'S THE MOON KANJI 月 AGAIN!

and then the last, and perhaps most interesting, instance of the lore voice is at the very end of Martyn's episode 5:

Why do you linger so? You wish to join the Shadow? [white jack-o-lantern face and fire appear on screen] Boo! (evil laughter) A DEMONSTRATION IS IN ORDER LIGHTS EXTINGUISH BEGIN THE SLAUGHTER OUR WILL BE DONE!

genuinely what the fuck does this mean. ok, breaking it down.

"why do you linger so? you wish to join the shadow?" the entity wants to know why he's hesitating to join the fairy people. this doesn't make sense, though! he already has joined them! what are you on about! unless this about fully leaving the Southlands in order to join the fairy people? but that'd just be a bad move tactically since he's currently acting as a double agent for them to spy on the Southlands so I really have no idea

the jack-o-lantern face, the fire, and the "boo!" are probably just to scare him. jack-o-lanterns and "boo" fit together. fire is scary. there's already some weird shit going on with fire this season (invisible fire, green fire, Mumbo glitching to still be on fire post-lava death, all that fun stuff). the evil laughter is just concerning

and then the text is in all caps and i have NO CLUE what it's about. "a demonstration is in order - lights extinguish - begin the slaughter" WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN THERE!

and then there's "our willl be done!" which just lines up. so far we've had "ere will be done" (which makes no sense grammatically but was probably in part because there needed to be an E at the end for the LAST LIFE abbreviation), "it must be done", "our will be done"

And there's 3rd Life, too! We had a couple instances of the lore voice in that as well, and in 3rd Life, they seemed more active (and spoke in plural, notably).

"It is not yet your time Green one.." when his life flashed before his eyes when the house on Monopoly Mountain exploded

(a lot of differently pitched voices overlaid) "It's time. Get him, zombies! Here he goes!" during the Battle of the Red Desert when some husks pushed him into lava

"Reluctant to fall Eager to rise Answer our call When next you rest your eyes.." after he died to the skeleton chasing the banner

"After every winter There comes a spring The banners burn The songbirds sing Vanquish them all Then ally with none This is our call Our will, be done" after he died to Impulse during the battle at Skizz Point and went red

"We are not pleased... Change is in order Our will be DONE!" after his death in the Battle of Dogwarts

So, what do we take from this? Well, the 3rd Life voice(s) spoke in less code, and seemed to want him to go red so he could do their bidding, which in turn seemed to be winning 3rd Life.

We don't know who this entity(/entities?) is and we don't know why they want Martyn to win this series so badly.

Notably, they want this at all costs in both seasons - in 3rd Life, they wanted him to end Red Winter ("after every winter there comes a spring", "the songbirds sing") and betray his allies ("the banners burn", "vanquish them all then ally with none") to win, and in Last Life, they want him to win ("surpass them all"), not focus on allies ("take friends for foes", "live not for others"), and generally win and have as many lives possible at all costs ("FORGET THE RULES").

...And then he gives a life to Ren in Last Life. That doesn't line up at all, does it? Of course, he might just want to get the fairy people to trust him, but it also does genuinely feel like he's trying to be loyal to them. He's betraying the Southlands for them and gave them one of his lives - which the lore entity is bound to dislike! As I just said, they didn't like his alliance with Ren in 3rd Life, urged him to either get that life back from Jimmy or ignore the rules and kill him, and generally want Martyn to win at all costs. So I hardly think they'd approve of him giving one of his precious lives away - especially not to Ren of all people.

And then at the end of the episode, he's evidently being threatened and/or shown horrible things - as a punishment for giving away the life, maybe? He's defied the entity in both 3rd Life (by not betraying Dogwarts) and Last Life (by giving one of his lives to Ren), and both times involved Ren. So I'm very interested to see where that's going to lead.

I'm not entirely sure about all this - you've very much just enabled me to ramble about Martyn lore and make theories as I go along - but I really do think that I might be onto something here. cc!Martyn did say we would find out who the entity is this season. We'll figure stuff out eventually. But it's all absolutely fascinating to me and if anyone else wants to talk to me about this stuff, please please do because I absolutely love taking this apart

This couple needs to learn how to communicate with each other, Bruce and Reader. It's so interesting that when they're fighting, they move in sync because they can anticipate what the other person wants to do without necessarily speaking it, but when they're not fighting, shit like this happens. I mean, is that a statement about trauma? Yes. If you're too familiar with an unsafe environment, safety feels dangerous. So, it makes sense that, with what the two of them have experienced, they almost flourish in dysfunction. Everyone in Wayne Manor needs therapy.

But also, this is exactly the shit that keeps shit from happening. You put words in the other person's mouth, thinking that's what they meant when you may not necessarily be right. And instead of talking about it, you take your interpretation as fact, leading to misunderstandings.

Do I love it (in a story)? Absolutely. You're doing fantastic, Shelby. We love the dramatic tension that comes from it.

Bruce rewound the footage to earlier in the night. To her coming outside, frantic, afraid. To their kiss. God, he wanted to kiss her again. It terrified him.

Proving my point about how safety feels dangerous. You're rich, Bruce. Get a therapist ffs.

There was no use to daydreaming about her. She wasn’t his.

But she wants to be!!! Just talk to each other. Figure it out. Kiss, cuddle, sleep with each other (in every sense of the phrase), get the oxytocin you both deserve.

Bruce cursed again and snapped the laptop shut.

Didn't you just answer an ask that said he would do this? I'd like to know if you wrote it in after answering it or if it had already been there.

It's always good to see Bruce's pov. The two of them are literally so in sync, so on the same page with each other, but they just refuse to talk about it and acknowledge the fact they are both dealing with issues. Poor Alfred is gonna have such a hard time getting them to talk to each other. I bet they're both talking to him too and it's like he's having the same conversation twice, multiple times, with two separate people talking about each other. He's probably so done.

The way you wrote about the way she woke up with the fragmented thoughts 10/10. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.

It's so immersive because that's literally how someone thinks waking up from a nightmare. It's like two sides of your brain trying to figure out which one was real and trying to reference what you know happened vs. what just happened and letting it fight itself until you can figure something out to break the repetition.

The routine of going to watch Bruce and make sure he was okay? Makes. Me. Soft. Matching her breathing to his? Talk about a literal image of being in sync with each other. (Also I've definitely had nightmares of similar fashions and have done that. Except I'm single. So instead of Bruce, it's my dog.)

“What are you doing on the floor?” His voice was the gentlest she’d ever heard it.

This made me audibly whine and aw. It'll make me cry if I'm not careful. I love soft Bruce with every fiber of my being.

I truly, with my entire self, believe that Bruce is the softest man on earth. That, if he got the proper therapy after his parents died, it would just show up in more conventional ways. Even as Batman, the man is soft. He doesn't wanna kill anyone, he just wants the world to be better and he believes that it can be better despite everything. I can imagine there are nights when that he feels incredibly disheartened, where something happens he didn't intend, where that belief feels challenged, but I don't think it ever wavers.

I also believe that he hates how soft he is and would rather die than admit it, but I don't think it's a matter of image. I think he's afraid that if he admits his gentle and soft nature, it makes it real, which makes him vulnerable. Of course, not admitting it doesn't make it not real—he still has that nature—but it just allows him to not think about it and not feel so vulnerable all the time. He just doesn't wanna hurt the way he has before.

“It wasn’t your fault.”

This makes me think about what an incredibly healing process falling in love with the reader must be for Bruce, especially because they're so similar. He has to confront the same demons he has, but instead they're haunting the person he loves. It's a little hypocritical (because he still thinks everything bad that has ever happened in the world is his fault when it isn't), but he'll learn to apply the same values to himself. And the reader helps by telling him the same thing.

So why was it so quiet now?

This just highlights how smart the reader is and how much she's learning from helping Bruce's vigilante work. I really hope she eventually gets a suit of her own at some point.

Bruce was there in an instant. “Are you hurt?” he asked. His voice was a deep rasp. He grabbed her chin and tilted her face towards the meager light.

SOFT.

Also, Bruce, how rude of you not to ask Alfred how he's doing??? It's not like the man raised you /s

I know it's because he reasonably knows he's fine, but still. Rude.

Gordon let out a long breath. “You sure do seem to get in a disproportionate amount of trouble, y/n.”

Yeah, Gordon, Bruce, and Alfred can all complain about it. I hope they have a tea party or something where they just talk about all the trouble the reader gets into.

All in all, fantastic chapter!!! I can't wait for the next one. You're amazing. I, however, have to write my paper (I'm totally not procrastinating whaaaaaat). I hope you're feeling better, bestie!

I think you nailed it re: trauma and communication! They definitely all need therapy. Alfred needs to quit playing cupid and just kidnap them and force them into therapy tbh. And he probably needs to go too because he's a terrible enabler 😂

I thrive off of angst and dramatic tension which is why none of my characters are ever good at talking about their feelings! Oops! They really do need to talk/ kiss/ fuck it out. All three. Over the course of several days.

And as for that shower/ video scene--I'd imagined it but didn't write it! This chapter actually didn't have a Bruce POV at all until a few days ago. And then I specifically wrote that scene into his POV after getting that ask!

Poor Alfred is definitely so done. Every time one of them comes to him with a problem I imagine his sighing, breaking out some sort of meds for a headache, and pinching the bridge of his nose. I may make this canon at some point who knows (not me because I decide stuff on the fly!)

So glad you loved how I wrote the nightmare part 🥺 When I originally wrote it I had actually had a nightmare the night before! Which turned out to be a weirdly good thing because boom inspiration (even though my dream was about spiders and not the love of my life being dead😬)

Grounding yourself is 100% the best way to deal with waking up from a nightmare, whether it's syncing your breathing with someone (or a dog or cat), or focusing on what you can touch etc

Soft Bruce is my favorite too tbh! I know for a fact he's a lot more actions oriented, so how do I show him being romantic? Him comforting her after a nightmare instead of telling her nice things. He is definitely absolutely the softest man on earth. You nailed it. I really think this Bruce is so afraid of vulnerability, especially because in his mind he thinks that it leads to weakness, which in turns leads to people he cares about getting hurt. And yes I kind of am headed that direction re: falling in love being a healing process! Because with the right person it really can be. Not because someone can save you/ make you better, but because they see the good in you and can show you that. He still needs therapy though. Badly

Obsessed with the idea of a support group for everyone in the reader's life where they complain about all the trouble she gets into. Because then there'd also be one for Bruce/ Batman.

What about reader and Bucky being close and hanging out a lot (dinners, chilling, movie nights etc.) and basically everyone, including reader, thinks that they're dating. Just taking it slow.

One night when reader and Bucky are out for dinner again, a woman comes over to their table. Bucky and her kiss and he introduces her as his gf. He wanted to introduce her to everyone tomorrow but he doesn't mind if his best friend knows first.

Reader leaves without a word and when bucky comes home to the compound, he can't find her and tells the others what happened. While he doesn't know what's going on, everyone looks at him flabbergasted like "what?! we thought you were dating y/n!"

Maybe he likes her too but never thought she would see more in him?

Are We Dating?

You and Bucky walk with your arms linked toward the restaurant. The smile on your face is big and wide because you love how romantic Bucky is. You both have been dating for a few weeks, and he is constantly taking you out on dates. It’s been very low key, which exactly what you were looking for in a relationship. He has been the perfect gentleman, hasn’t even kissed you yet, but you are hoping that happens tonight.

You remember the first time he asked you out. He looked so confident and cute, it made your heart soar! He took you to the lookout at Pier 17, which gave you a beautiful view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Afterwards, you both walked along the water front holding hands and talking about everything. When you both got back to the compound, he walked to your door, kissed your cheek and bid you goodnight. Since then you have gone out a few times a week, and your heart is falling more and more for this man.

As you get to the restaurant, Bucky brings you to a table toward the back. You start looking at the menu and look up and notice that Bucky was looking at the door. “Everything ok, Buck?” you ask.

He looks at you with his stunning blue eyes and gives you a warm smile, “You bet, Doll,” he says warmly.

Doll, the nickname that he only calls you, and it makes you swoon every single time. The butterflies start to flutter as you force yourself to look back down at the menu and not at your handsome boyfriend. Though you have to admit it’s extremely hard.

After you decide what you want you look up and and see that he is looking past you tot he door again. You are about to ask him again what he was looking at when you see him smile wide. You turn and see a beautiful woman walking toward your table with a large beautiful smile. Your stomach drops slightly, but you think maybe it’s a misunderstanding.

“Bucky,” the woman says as Bucky stands up.

“Hey Dollface,” Bucky says wrapping his his arm around her waist, pulling her to him. When their lips met your heart physically shattered. The breath left your lungs and tears immediately came to your eyes. The couple pulled away from each other with smiles, not realizing you are having a breakdown in front of them.

Bucky turns and looks at you and furrows his brows, “Y/N? Are you alright?” he asks concerned.

You grab your coat and quickly got up, running away from them and out of the restaurant. you hear Bucky calling you, but you ignore him and keep running. Once you leave the restaurant you decide not to go back to the compound, because you are just too embarrassed to face the team. You run the other way and don’t stop until you physically couldn’t run anymore.

Bucky’s POV

The elevator opens and Bucky rushes out and into the common room, where the team was sitting talking. “Has anyone seen Y/N?” he asks panicked.

They all shake their head, clearly confused. “Weren’t you on a date with her?” Sam asks.

Bucky, who was walking toward your room, stopped dead in his tracks. “Date? It wasn’t a date. We were having dinner. I actually wanted to introduce her to my girlfriend, but she ran out and she isn’t answering her phone.” Bucky looks down at his feet, “She thought it was a date?” he asked quietly.

“Bucky she thought you were dating! Hell we all thought you both were dating! You have taken her out multiple times, going on long romantic walks, holds her hand, call her Doll. What is she supposed to think?” Nat asked annoyed.

Bucky paled. Did you really think you were dating? How could he be so stupid as to not notice? He never in a million years thought that you would date him. He is not good enough for you! Bucky looks at the team, who all look pissed off at him.

“I-- I’m the biggest fucking idiot in the world,” Bucky says, running a hand through his hair.

The team nodded in agreement. “Well how can I make this better?” he asks.

“I honestly don’t know if you can. You are still with your girlfriend, and I’m sure you’re not planning on dumping her, right?” Nat said, taking out her phone and typing.

“I-- I don’t know. I mean I like Liz. She is sweet, and funny, and caring. She likes me in spite of what I was. I would hate to just dump her, but--” Bucky stops thinking about how upset you must be right now.

How the hell has he fucked up so badly? He has been obsessed with you for months! He thought you were just being friendly, and he was willing to push his feelings aside just to be with you as a friend. But now to find out that you have feelings for him and thought you were dating?

“But I’ve been in love with Y/N for months. I mean I don’t want to hurt Liz, but Y/N is the one I want. The one I’ve always wanted,” Bucky says. “Shit, I gotta find her!” he begs.

“I know where she is. Come on, I’ll drive,” Natasha says walking toward the elevator, Bucky following behind.

Nat pulls up to a deserted park, “She is down by the lake. She doesn’t know you are coming, so good luck,” she says.

Bucky takes a deep breath. He already broke 2 hearts tonight, can he manage to save 1 and his own? When he got in the car with Nat, he immediately called Liz and explained everything. Luckily she was a good sport, but he could tell she was heartbroken. It just made him feel like more of an asshole, but right now his priority is you.

He gets out of the car and silently walks toward the lake. He sees you sitting in the dark, on a bench, staring at the water. He knows you haven’t heard him yet, so he steps on a small branch to make noise. When you do, you turn and look at him, heartbreak evident in your features.

“What do you want?” you ask venomously, turning your head back toward the lake.

“To beg your forgiveness,” Bucky says, as he slowly walks closer.

You scoff in response, “Go back to your girlfriend. I have nothing to say to you,” you say.

“Doll, please,” Bucky begs, and that seems to allow the anger flow freely out of you.

“DON’T call me Doll! You lead me on! You made me feel that you had feelings for me! You had to have known that I liked you! I thought.. I thought..” you start hyperventilating.

Bucky rushes over trying to help, but you push him away, “No! I don’t want your help! I want nothing from you! You fucking asshole!” you scream while still wheezing.

“Y/N, stop! Let me help you!” Bucky begs grabbing your arms.

You feel like you are about to pass out and stop fighting him. You look at him and see him taking deep breaths. You try your best to match his and eventually the tightness in your chest releases. You immediately pull your arms away from him once you feel better.

Bucky sighs, “Y/N, I cannot apologize enough for everything. I-I didn’t know you felt that way about me! I thought you just wanted to be friends! I mean I am not nearly good enough for you!” Bucky says.

You refuse to acknowledge him, so he continues, hoping to get through to you, “But I like you too. I know it’s hard to believe because of what happened tonight, but I swear I thought you only liked me as a friend. The only way to get over you is to date someone else. I wanted to introduce you tonight, but then everything happened.” Bucky stops to take a breath.

“I fucked up, so badly. I know there is a slim chance that you will forgive me, but I promise on everything that I own, everything that I am, that I have feelings for you too. And I am so sorry,” he says.

You stand up and start to walk away but stop and look at Bucky, “I saw the way you looked at her. You never looked at me that way. So go and be with her,” you say as you start to walk away.

Bucky grabs your arm to stop you, “Y/N, you are the one I want. I broke up with Liz the minute I found out you liked me back. I mean I know I have a lot to make up for, but... can you give me a chance to make it up to you?” he asks.

You turn and look at him, “I have to think about Bucky,” you say, pulling your arm away.

Bucky deflated completely dejected as you started to walk away. He stood there and watched you disappear over the hill toward Nat’s car. He just wants to cry that he could have had everything he wanted, but instead he ruined it. Why is he so stupid?

He continues to look out at the lake and until he hears pounding footsteps. He turns and sees you running back toward him. You jump when you get close enough and he catches you in his arms. You grab him by the back of the neck and pull him into your lips. Bucky immediately responds, pulling your body closer as you wrap your legs around his waist.

He angles his head to deepen the kiss and you allow his tongue entrance. You both hold on to each other like a life raft, not daring to let go and break this spell. But eventually oxygen becomes a priority and you both pull away, gasping for breath. Bucky leans his forehead against yours, with his eyes closed, scared to open them and see that it’s a lie.

You force him to look up into your eyes, “So there is no confusion, that was not a kiss of friendship. I want to date you, and be with you in every way possible. I’m falling so hard for you Buck, and when I saw you with her, I thought I was so stupid,” you said, letting your legs touch the ground.

“But if you are willing to go slow and build this relationship, and communicate with me so that there is no more confusion, then I’m 100% in,” you say.

Bucky smiles and kisses you again, “I’m yours Doll. In every sense, I’m falling for you too and I don’t want to be with anyone else,” he says.

You grab his hand and you both walk back to Nat’s car. You both started slow, but have a loving relationship. But you never give up an opportunity to tell people the story of how you both got together. It’s a real crowd pleaser at parties, and Bucky turning bright red makes it even more enjoyable.

This particular segment is really cool because, while their first major interaction had Wilbur being particularly incompetent at fighting and Techno showing that he could easily knock down Wilbur if he wanted to, this is now Wilbur proving to Techno that he has other strengths in different areas. It shows off some more of his skill and gives them something to actually discuss, making the conversation a bit more worthwhile. I like the parallels.

Of course, immediately after discussing about Themis, Techno brings up the fact that he's been spending a lot of time with Phil lately. Which again, mirrors how much time Tommy spends with Techno, but the key here is Wilbur's attempted dismissal which Techno sees right through. He tries to jab back, but Techno says it was really Tommy seeking him out. It shows the distance in their communication and irregularity here, where Wilbur cannot believe or acknowledge what the situation really looks like compared to what he wants to believe. Techno doesn't deny the manipulation claim, but nor does he accept it, which is a little bit fishy.

With every step forward it feels like a step back, weirdly. I wonder if that's intentional.

The disconnect even carries over to when he's actually with Tommy, letting his insecurities and self doubt clouding what Tommy really wants from Wilbur. It's really sad to watch. Tommy's face is impassive and cold, a stark difference to how he was when they first arrived and it's a product of everything he's gone through here. Multiple times where things went completely awry and his support pillar of a brother leaving him behind has caused Tommy to change just as much as Wilbur has. I want a Tommy POV stars now. It feels like a goldmine, I need to dig into the gremlin child's head. Gimme.

it's definitely a contrast to that first training scene! wilbur really doesn't have a lot in the physical side of skills, but he has knowledge, and techno respects that more than wilbur realizes

of course techno was going to bring up how much time wilbur and phil are spending together because he and phil talk about the boys a lot when they're on their own. even if we don't see them together 'on screen' a lot, phil and techno are a duo. they rule the AE together, and they keep each other updated on most of what they're doing. this is definitely a contrast to the way tommy and wilbur are working right now, with wilbur not really registering that all the times tommy left their room was him seeking techno out to train and not him being summoned to do it.

if techno denied the manipulation claim do you think wilbur would've believed it? as paranoid as he is? no way, and techno knew that too. why bother dignifying that kind of accusation with a response when you know the person asking you the question only wants to hear one answer?

man as much as i would love to write a tommy POV my favorite part of writing a fic like stars is because of the challenge a limited POV represents. wilbur is such an unreliable narrator and i personally think that makes the story so much more interesting. also it's just a lot more fun for me as a writer to not let myself jump between POVs. I do actually have parts of chapter 13 that i wrote in phil's POV just so i could get an idea what was going on inside his head, but i dont think that's ever gonna see the light of day (and if it does it'll only be posted after stars has already finished as bonus content)

but yes if i were to do a tommy POV it would be a goldmine... if only

Embert: In my head, he's always been not a dick about it but obviously in relating to his sibs/fam, there's only so much he could do when Indie's resentment is already real so maybe her kids wouldn't fuck with him by the side of the story they've been told? 'famous' (ish) mum and you've been in shoots with her and you're pretty and so to me a vibe of like, this is too much attention and I'm not about it seems real Embert: not even necessarily shy just that for the wrong, i.e. they sense it and use it against you so then you have to leave which she'd be bad at doing so, in that case, she should have a boyfriend/girlfriend who is equally fucked but
