I love how they've already given Liko an internal conflict that's so different from not just Ash, but most protagonists we've had in Pokemon so far. We've had characters be nervous before, and who've had difficulties socializing in their past, but I don't think any of them responded to it the way Liko does.

She's not super animated when it comes to her anxieties, either, which is kind of refreshing in a way. I feel like there's a tendency to make these sorts of characters so loud and obvious about their fears that it sometimes becomes comical, and while I don't have an issue with that, it's nice to see this more grounded take on it, too.

Because like... anxiety isn't always visible. Liko clearly has a lot going on in her head at any given moment, but she doesn't outwardly express herself very much. And as a result, people reportedly have a hard time understanding her.

And that's just really cool to see in the protagonist of this kind of series - one that has such a bright, loud energy to it. Sure, Liko will probably develop to have a similar energy to her, but her starting place is fundamentally different from what we've seen before, and that's exciting to see play out. I'm already looking forward to seeing more of her!

Really tired of people saying Liko is sexist because she doesn’t battle so let’s talk about her. Because frankly I’m really enjoying Horizons.

Yes she’s not the “battler” but Roy isn’t even the battler he’s the adventurer he wants to find Rayquaza, Liko is a better battler than him so far she just holds back. We've had an episode that proved she could defeat Roy and Kabu's apprentice yet decided to prioritize their feelings over hers and was told it was the wrong thing to do because they want her not to hold back. Her flaw isn't her battle dexterity, she's really good at planning strategies with the limited resources she has. Her flaw is that she never puts herself first, which I hope she learns to do as time goes on.

She has a magic pendant but that’s not all she is, she’s not tied to only it. What about the pendant had her understand Hatenna? What about the pendant had her bond with Spirgattio? Nothing she’s a very bond heavy character and now she’s about to bond with the creature inside the pendant. She saved the day by trying to understand Galaran Moltres’s feelings.

And I get the criticism she’s a girl in a series that has been very sexist with their girls, shoving them into contests because gym battles is the “male thing” once we got main character girls they had to be coordinators once contests didn’t exist showcases which were only for girls period no boys in them who ended up in contests anyway in the end. Then we got Chloe who wasn’t even a full main character a huge step down.

However this is a step up. This is a character using their feminity AS a strength they aren’t just shoved into the girl role it’s a part of their personality. And frankly calling any female traits bad and less superior than battling is just as sexist it’s like saying girls liking the color pink is bad and I once fell into that trap. Having traditionally female traits is not bad it’s about how they’re used and Liko is using them just as well as any female protagonist from any shoujo. I’d compare her very strongly to mahou shoujo girls who use their compassion as their strength and it’s not a bad thing, it’s a great role model for young girls struggling with finding their place in the world.

Sooo, Gibeon says he will return to Rakua and that Rakurium will be his....

Implied he's been to Rakua but got banished or something like that, Rakurium implies it being some sort of mineral of sorts, which fits the names of the Explorers admins beings gems. And ofc he knows Lucius. "Adventure isn't over yet, isn't that right, Lucius?"

What else do we know? I am now certain Amethio and Liko are pararrels on Gibeon and Lucius's dynamic, and might end up being a sort of a... different outcome of their fallout? Like, Amethio and Liko befriending each other instead of becoming enemies. But to be fair, we still don't have the full story, I'm curious to know what happened between Gibeon and Lucius. Their partners, Black Rekkuuza and White Zygarde feel like direct counterparts.

I can't sleep, so don't be surprised if nothing in this post makes sense (it does in my head, but who am I to talk, right?)

I really like character analysis and things like that, Liko and Amethio are my favorite characters from Horizons, and there are many interesting parallels between the two that I keep discussing with myself in my head. Amethio is a character who is used very sparcely, but whenever he is around, something important happens or is happening, which is intriguing, to say the least.

So, starting with the Gibeon and Lucius thing. I don't think Gibeon is actually Ametio's grandfather (his father's father). If Gibeon really knew Lucius, then he was alive for about 100 years, and it seems unlikely to me that he would have a grandson as young as Amethio at that age. My headcanon is that Gibeon is higher up in the family tree, and Amethio just calls him grandfather for sake of simplicity (also it would be kind of weird to say great-great-great-great-grandfather).

An idea that had crossed my mind after episode 54 is the following: Lucius (Liko's ancestor) and Gibeon (Amethio's ancestor) were friends. Hamber (I don't think he has any blood relationship with Amethio, but he acts like a grandfather figure to him) and Diana (Liko's grandfather) were friends. This made me wonder if Amethio's father (who failed his mission or betrayed the Explorers, we don't know) had known or even been friends with Luca, Liko's mother. Luca hasn't met Amethio, and we don't even know if Liko talked about him to her, so a meeting between the two would be nice, and could clarify some things.

(I'm not going to talk about the theory that the president of the company Friede worked for is Amethio's father, just for the record)

It's interesting to me that, as a pendant, Terapagos only activated that protective shield twice, and both times, Amethio was involved. Diana says that nothing ever happened to the pendant when it was with her, and maybe that's because it takes a relative of Lucius and a relative of Gibeon nearby to awaken Terapagos? So Terapagos only woke up when Liko and Amethio met, and when Terapagos left the pendant form permanently, Amethio was nearby (we know he watched the whole Moltres mess in episode 23). And when Terapagos first entered terastal form, guess who was nearby? It's a pattern. Whenever something relevant about Lucius and his Pokémon is happening, Amethio is nearby. The only exception was Arboliva at the beginning of the anime (Spinel was watching, but he doesn't seem to have anything to do with this Lucius thing)

A really cool parallel between the two is that both Liko and Amethio have two Pokémon, one from Paldea and one from Galar (Floragato and Ceruledge for Paldea, and Hattrem and Corviknight for Galar). Could it be pure coincidence? It could. But what's the fun in watching a series and thinking it's all a coincidence?

I have to rewatch the entire series with a notepad to catch all the parallels between these two, because, seriously, there are a lot. Liko and Amethio are in completely opposite situations: Liko is supported by the adults around her, she gains training, affection and comfort. Amethio has none of that. His co-workers despise him (Sango calls Amethio pampered, and it is said that Spinel literally hates him), and a huge weight is placed on his shoulders, for being related to Gibeon and wanting to prove himself to him.

Amethio's part in the second opening still gets me to this day. He's in a dark room, training, falls to the floor, and the lyrics say "run, towards my future".

The question I have is: does Amethio have a future outside of the Explorers? Does he have any idea how wrong his situation and the way people treat him are? Does he have any idea that he could leave the Explorers behind and be happy? That he owes them nothing?

The answer to all these questions is obvious: No. No, he doesn't know. No, he has no idea. Amethio believes in what he is doing. The only reason he's in the Explorers is because he's Gibeon's grandson. He doesn't have a personal ambition, like Spinel, and he doesn't like to set everything on fire like Sango. He is a teenager.

I hope to see a lot more of Ametio in this arc. And, most importantly, I want him and Liko to interact!!!

Something something, Liko having a heart to heart with Amethio and talking about how there are some things you’ll never know about someone until you talk to them, followed by Gibeon refusing to hear Amethio’s explanation and immediately kicking him out...

So Pocket Monsters Gen 9 Edition, or Pokémon Horizons, has aired 34 episodes this year, enough episodes to asses its quality thus far. And honestly, from the writing, the animation, the sound, the pacing, the ideas, and the characters including all the Pokémon themselves, this seriously might just be the best that PokeAni has ever been. It's already a far superior series to Pokémon Journeys, is at least on par with Sun & Moon, and on a technical level can be called better than even the Gen 1 era (The Beginning) of the original series! And it should go without saying that it's far stronger than anything PokeAni had to offer in Gens 2 through 6, where I strongly believe that the stuff that sucked about those series' always ended up outweighing the stuff that was solid in them in the end, sorry but not sorry.

And then there's Liko, who I could go on and on about why she's such a breath of fresh air and works fantastically as the lead of this series. But I won't, 'cause...that's sort of what this hot take concerns. With Liko being the first full-time main protagonist in a PokeAni series who is not Ash Ketchum (I say "full-time" to say Jimmy and Alain don't count here), it will naturally stand to reason that I'd think to draw comparisons between her as she's starting out and Ash in the Indigo League arc of the original series back when he was starting out. Not just trainer experience and battle-wise, but as characters.

So when I compare the two, and think on it deeply, as unbiased and objectively as I can manage, this is the conclusion I come out with.

Don't get me wrong, I would gladly and without a hint of hesitation take Liko any day over Ash from any of the Gens 3 through 8 anime, and that includes Ash from SuMo and Journeys who I actually liked! I'm beyond thrilled to have Liko as the protagonist of the current series instead of Ash, who'd really needed to be retired ages ago.

But neither my love for Liko nor my nostalgic adoration for Indigo League really factor into this. Between OG Ash and Liko, I find the former to be the slightly yet significantly stronger main protagonist than the latter. And it's primarily for a reason I couldn't even quite convey into thoughts or words until out of the blue, Suede returned to Youtube with a new video that just put it into clear perspective.

"Average kid who's really nice and sweet yet painfully average is going about his regular life when he suddenly recieves the CALL TO ADVENTURE through no fault of his own, usually through some kind of power that puts him above others. He's reluctant at first but through friendship or world-shattering stakes, he's won over, starts enjoying himself...." Switch the gender around and this describes Liko almost verbatim. She's much closer to what was usually the norm for young male protagonists in adventure anime, and I get the sense this was a deliberate choice similar to what was done with Avatar Aang and Avatar Korra, where the succeeding protagonist contrasts with the preceeding one. And that's another area where Liko works so brilliantly: she had to work up the courage to allow herself to be drawn into a new life by the call, as opposed to boldly but recklessly jumping at the call well before it had even actually come for her like Ash did after turning forever 10 years old.

However, there's another area of interest for Liko's character VS OG Ash's that Suede missed. Shall we call it the "Chosen One Factor?" You all know what I'm talking about, the trope in stories where the protagonist has been predetermined by fate to be the main character and to have a great big adventure where they realize their destiny, and usually due to the single factor of bloodlines; that they're related to someone big and important, so they must carry on that big and important family lineage in their own way. In Pokémon Horizons, it could not be more subtle that Liko comes from the blood lineage of Lucius the Ancient Adventurer, meaning that everything that has now happened to make her a trainer didn't simply just happen to her: it was destined to happen. It was, as Thanos would say, inevitable. And I in no way mean to suggest this is an inherently bad trope, that Horizons is doing it poorly with Liko, or that it's any worse off for doing it. I'm only saying that we see this thing done so frequently.

Ash Ketchum at the start of the original series, meanwhile? He's nobody. His father was a deadbeat who prioritized Pokémon training over raising a family. His mother gave birth to him while still very young and has to be both self-sufficient and a good parent to him all on her own. The last name "Ketchum" means jack shit to anybody in-universe. In fact, it's his chilhood friend/rival Gary who's the special somebody around town; he's the one with the big important family lineage, being the grandson of Professor Oak. Ash...is just a random 10 year old kid who's very passionate about Pokémon. More than that, the kid starts off as an absolute loser. He oversleeps and misses his chance to pick out one of the three Kanto starter Pokémon to be his first Pokémon partner. The Pikachu he's given doesn't get along with him at first. His sendoff party is dinky and low key compared to what Gary got. He has trouble dealing with the sort of low level wild Pokémon that most newbies would take down and/or capture in no time. He always thinks he knows what he's in for and what he has to do and has to be as a trainer who aspires to be "the world's greatest Pokémon Master" yet ends up missing several basic steps any new trainer has to take and has difficulty understanding information that could help him make those steps. His own Poke' Dex throws shade at him for being a "stupid traveler". This kid is a dense, thick-headed, ignorant boob and on top of that has got a heavily flawed personality. An absolutely disatrous little shithead, and I just fucking love him for it. In a sense he's actually quite like a younger precursor to Re:Zero's Subaru Natsuki, a young male who starts off with all the entitlement that a super special awesome and exceptional main character would feel is warranted only to find that the world does not exist to owe him anything and that he will have to struggle, suffer, learn, adapt, and perserve while being entitled to nothing because in truth there is absolutely nothing super special awesome and exceptional about him: he has to put in the work to make himself special, awesome, and exceptional. In its original conception and understanding, To Be A Master is about what's earned, not owed.

Now, as PokeAni dragged on and on and on and on AND ON with Ash still in the lead role, they messed up this initial setup with many occasions that seemed to contradict it and convey to us that actually yes, our main character IS a truly special boy because he just loves Pokémon more than any other mere mortal in this wourld could ever love Pokémon, that the world does exist to owe him shit and in fact mostly revolves around what he and his merry band of friends do, he encounters all the mythical and legendary Pokémon, he beats all the bad guys and shuts down the regional evil teams' evil plots, and he competes in all the Leagues of all the regions until he ends up the first ever Champion of one of them by winning its first ever League Tournament, and from there he gets to become the World's Strongest Master just like that. And while those major victories were legitimately earned and very rewarding to witness, it's a terrible shame they had to come after years of canon twisting Ash's character and function in the world of PokeAni inside out multiple times ad nauseum, and it had the unfortunate effect on many in the fandom, male fans especially, where they got overcome with this entitlement regarding the character, dead set on wanting to live vicariously through his experiences and project onto him as a power fantasy, wanting and expecting a consistently growing character who only gets better, smarter, savvier, more badass, more mature, and more respected the Poke' World over with each regional quest undertaken, and throwing hissy fits when the anime, due to various factors, did not deliver. This is what made the retiring of Ash's character and his replacement in the lead role by Liko such a sensible and positive direction for the anime to take and why I'm so, sooooo damn glad it's been taken.

So all in all, Liko >>>>>>>> Ash Ketchum for most of the anime, but the OG Ash Ketchum we had in Gen 1 >>>>> Liko in Horizons.

But both are superior to the player character of Scarlet & Violet.

a likodot themed analysis of HZ049

hello it's been a while since my last truly longform post like this but guess who watched HZ049 today and is going absolutely fucking feral bonkers about it. it's me. and i have things to say about it of the likodot variety because if i don't get these thoughts out of my head i'll explode.

forgive me for my shipping bias because i'm not sorry. however i am slightly sorry for how messy this post ended up being my god i had a lot of thoughts but i did my best to make this at least somewhat entertaining to read and comprehensive. but it really is a long winding mess LOL. FULL OF PASSION AND ADORATION I LOVE THIS SHOW AND I LOVE LIKO AND DOT MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD

obviously there are heavy spoilers below the cut i'm going to be violently pulling apart all the scenes where these two interact and gnawing at all of it

so. first off. this episode displays massive growth in liko and dot's relationship by method of showing how much liko's behavior around gurumin has changed since these two met and since dot initially confessed to being gurumin. as we all know liko was a massive superfan of gurumin, and then when dot confessed to being gurumin... well liko's reaction was. Uh

well she was having a little bit of a crisis about it LOL. historically liko has gotten very flustered and panicked when reminded that dot is gurumin. and she has been really prone to fangirling still (ie. getting really excited about helping gurumin in HZ019 with the bakery stuff or helping gurumin with the pig town stuff in HZ036), despite knowing the person in the suit. she goes as far as to try to ignore that dot is in the suit entirely and keep them separate in her brain (shown for instance by her freaking out over seeing dot halfway in the gurumin suit in HZ039) because if she were to mentally cross those wires, she wouldn't be able to handle it.

but now in this episode, things have obviously changed a lot over time. the episode opens with a small scene that explains what dot is doing about gurumin while they are traveling on the terastal course (filming them beforehand and scheduling ahead of time lol) but liko and dot have a conversation about (a really CUTE conversation) about gurumin in the process.

do not get it twisted, liko is still very much a fan of gurumin, but this conversation is a lot more comfortable and grounded. she gets a notification about a new gurumin video and she's excited (and surprised because of the timing), but she is not panicking about it. and her first reaction to this information is to directly ask dot (with the softest expression fucking ever??) about it. this directly connects dot and gurumin together in a strong way. liko is no longer running from the fact that dot is the youtuber she looks up to, and in fact she's being pretty upfront about it.

not related to my main point, but i also just want to gush a little here about this scene more - dot reacts similarly to liko showing so much affection for her work in a similar way to how she reacted in HZ008 to liko complimenting her through the door - getting flustered about liko's genuine energy, but this time they know each other and are looking at each other face to face. liko's affectionate energy is enough to make her relent that maybe someday... she could film outside... which shows the sort of effect liko has on her. and also this becomes relevant later in the episode where dot literally does film gurumin videos outside - it's just good writing/foreshadowing lol

anyway, this continues later on when liko is the first to get worried about dot doing the battle livestream with nanjamo as gurumin instead of herself. i think if this situation had happened much earlier on, liko would have been thinking a lot more about the excitement of the idea of seeing gurumin battle in real life, but she doesn't even initially have that thought and have to backtrack, she's immediately worried about dot instead.

ironically, liko recognizing that gurumin isn't dot, as in gurumin is a mask that dot puts on instead of being representational of her true self, drives home liko's recognition of dot as gurumin even more. she understands the connection between dot and gurumin and what gurumin is to dot enough to have this concern in the first place - one roy initially doesn't understand, that is specific to liko. there is zero compartmentalization of dot being a youtuber here! liko is concerned about her friend who is an influencer, where she puts on a mask to be confident and outgoing. dot and gurumin are fully connected.

it's also worth acknowledging that liko holds the gurumin suit and is concerned about it being damaged but nothing more - unlike in HZ021 when she goes to dot's room to give her the suit after it's been washed and cleaned, and she's a little nervous and flustered about it still.

i've always talked about how there's a bit of a difference between shipping liko and dot, and liko and gurumin - not that those two sectors have zero overlap, but that to liko, gurumin and dot were usually kept so separate mentally that fans online could often be sorted into camps of being interested in the running silliness of liko's fascination and flustered behavior with the whole gurumin thing, and liko and dot's connection with each other as normal (girl)friends... liko has progressively adjusted more to dot being gurumin and has had moments where she is able to set aside her fangirl heart to be there for dot (like when she mentions dot being gurumin in her little supportive speech in HZ027), but this episode shows that in a much more drastic and meaningful way, and now those two sectors are FULLY overlapping canonically. i think it is overall a sweet and good thing for them that liko is able to see dot as a whole and directly appreciate her creative skills/work. it is obviously meaningful to dot!

NOW. onto the SECOND thing i want to talk about. the thing i've dubbed LIKODOT TELEPATHY. aka holy shit these girls understand each other without words. liko and dot understand each other on an intrinsic level and often notice when the other is worried, or pushing themselves too hard, or etc. that is EXTREMELY evident in this episode through liko's concern towards dot.

going back to the first scene before the opening theme, liko detects immediately when dot comments on roy's upbeat attitude that dot might be feeling nervous about her upcoming battle, and immediately offers reassurance.

(unfortunately i have to put aside my ramble about liko's continued lack of self esteem and her putting herself down here for another time because otherwise this post will get so off-topic and longer than it has any right to be, but you get the point. also holy shit dot saying "you don't have to fuss so much" but smiling and saying that line like she's happy to have liko fretting about her makes me CRAZY. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. BUT. coughs. ANYWAY)

then, like i mentioned earlier, liko is the first to be worried about dot in this episode. she's the first to notice dot's anxious/shutting down behavior:

the first to recognize that dot might actually walk away unhappy if she were to do her terastal exam as gurumin instead of herself:

and the first to recognize that her filming videos outside is not as genuinely upbeat and happy as it may seem:

(two quick side notes about this, i really like how the writing puts emphasis on liko's concern by contrasting roy's total lack of it multiple times - NOT that he doesn't care of course, but just that liko understands dot particularly well and is in touch with dot's feelings in a special way that roy isn't. additionally, it makes me feel crazy that dot probably got the idea to film outside from liko's affectionate encouragement in the first scene in the episode... like, she's basically trying to use liko's advice to hype herself up and get through this... of course she would!! trusting liko's words has always ended up positively for her!! liko is such a massive support for her!! and liko acknowledges herself that yeah she said that but that isn't what she meant. GOD. i'm so insane about these girls)

this is notable not only because it's very sweet that liko is so concerned about dot, but also because dot doesn't really understand this herself. she is trying so hard to put on the gurumin facade, to run away from her anxiety as far as possible, to avoid the bad. and yet despite her attempts to cover her true feelings up as much as possible, even from herself, liko sees straight through it. dot cannot mask around liko, she understands regardless, sees the parts of her she doesn't want to acknowledge.

the contrast between dot's understanding of herself and liko's understanding of her is immense. directly after dot boldly proclaims that she feels so much stronger as gurumin and happily mentions that she has nanjamo's permission to do their battle as gurumin is when liko finally confronts her. the difference in mood is startling, almost, and easily shows that contrast. i need to break down this confrontation in detail cause it makes me insane

first, liko is still too nervous to say what she wants to say, but as per usual with LIKODOT TELEPATHY (tm) dot immediately notices liko going into her polite i-don't-want-to-inconvenience-you voice and pushes for what the matter is. she can tell immediately that liko has a problem even though liko hasn't said anything yet.

liko doesn't want to rock the boat and is overly gentle with her words (once again i have to push aside my ramble about liko's confidence problems AGH) but finally speaks her piece about the situation.

i want to mention here as well, these two situations are very different, but the similarities of dot noticing liko pushing herself back in HZ027 and then liko recognizing dot pushing herself in kind... SIIIGH

dot's reaction is to stammer with MUCH less confidence than before that she wasn't forcing anything. she's taken offguard by liko's concerns, but it's evident she recognizes what liko is saying within herself and is grappling with trying to maintain her mental wall after liko has cracked it in half with her words. liko was right and saw right through her, and dot isn't sure how to handle it. she avoids eye contact and everything.

this is where i bridge my conversation about likodot telepathy into talking about dot's characterization and growth as a character, so bear with me - quaxly attempts to drive the point liko is making home by separating dot from the gurumin suit, but afterwards is... The Scene. liko tries to bring the conversation back to what they were saying before, but at this point dot is overwhelmed by quaxly's actions and feels socially/emotionally cornered and... she explodes and screams at liko.

i think it's an interesting part of her personality that she is prone to irritable/angry outbursts and yelling when she has her buttons pushed too far and i'm glad that remains consistent for her, especially because...

the last time dot yelled directly at liko like this was in HZ008. the situation is actually quite similar with dot being pushed too far into a situation she doesn't know how to handle by liko reaching out to her more than she is ready for, causing her to lash out. but some MAJOR things have changed since then - obviously, the first time was through the door before they really knew each other, before liko had even seen her face, but this time it's up close and personal and they know each other. but secondly, at the beginning of the show, dot is irritated and overwhelmed by pretty much any attempt at conversation. she has come such a long way that now she's brought to screaming by something much, much more massive, with the whole being streamed live while battling in real life thing, showing how much she has overcome since then... and not only that!! thirdly! the first time, liko was encouraging gurumin, sharing how much of a fan of gurumin she was, and now this second time, it's in reaction to liko essentially telling her "i don't think you actually want to be gurumin in this situation". point is, the amount of growth dot has had is ironically so easy to see in her screaming at liko here because of the sheer level of contrast between the two times it's happened.

by this happening again, it also gives dot the chance to recognize her own shitty behavior and apologize for yelling later even though liko (nor roy) were asking for an apology - in fact they seemed to be surprised that dot wanted to apologize in the first place, like they had forgotten all about it. i think both liko and roy are used to shrugging off some of dot's more irritable behaviors, but this time dot noticed herself that she messed up and takes that moment to say sorry, which is sweet of her and once again a moment of character growth.

considering that dot also follows this up with the statement that she will take her terastal exam as herself, the apology is also connected to it - like she recognized that what liko was saying, the thing that made her yell, ended up being true. it was liko's genuine attempt to help her. and now that she's come to that conclusion on her own, she can see that yelling was even more misguided.

and that's my final conversation topic about this episode - the fact that dot came to that conclusion on her own. yes, liko cracked the wall she was putting up and gave her that starting push, but dot went above and beyond to take that crack and then smash that wall into pieces without liko's help. which despite what it sounds like i think is extremely important for these two's dynamic moving forward.

i'm going to spare you the analysis of dot's fear of cameras, why she hides behind gurumin, as well as a breakdown of the whole part of the episode with varoom bc i'm trying to talk mostly about likodot here, but assuming you've watched the episode you know what i'm talking about. here, i'm focused on the part where liko exclaims that they have to help dot, and dot denies her help and says she wants to handle it on her own, and then from this experience she is able to conclude she wants to do her terastal exam as herself.

this is massive. for so long, liko has practically dragged dot along and held her hand through tackling new experiences... sometimes literally lol, thinking about the scene in HZ027 where liko drags dot to chase after terapagos by the arm. but anyway, on top of that, this is also different from her standing up to her mom in HZ041, which was ALSO massive, but a large part of that episode consisted of liko's interventions, and she was pushed into that situation where she really had no choice in the matter. she had to if she wanted to stay on the brave asagi which was non negotiable. but here? there was nothing stopping dot from just taking the help and running from the cameras. in fact it probably would have been much easier to do that. but she wants to prove herself, and not because she has to to get the thing she wants, but just because... she wants to. she wants to succeed on her own.

and i think that's really important in the context of not just dot herself, but likodot, because while it is very sweet of liko to constantly be pushing dot and leading her to further self understanding and more confidence, and i will always be emotional about liko essentially caring for her to the point of dot braving ending her time as a NEET, the end goal for that should always be that dot is given confidence in herself to exist as a person independently of liko's pushing, for her own sake.

i think it's also incredibly meaningful that liko saw this happen - she experienced running out to help dot like usual, and then actually having her advances denied, but not for bad reasons this time... she gets to see dot be a better version of herself and come to that conclusion liko tried to push earlier, on her own accord, in her own way.

i say all this because i want liko to be able to love dot not as a person to fix but also just... a person. i want what liko has done for her to cause dot to be a better person outside of what liko does, for herself. and i want liko to be able to love the wonderful and more confident person dot becomes as a result. do you understand. am i making sense. GAH. i am so worked up about this. i'm holding them both in my hands and shaking them violentlySJDFJFSD

Team Explorers analysis

I have watched ep1&2 and boy do i have a lot of thoughts!!

- they used manipulative means to get liko but still maintain professionalism(?), amethio faking the permission slip and letter from her grandma, and being polite before liko decided to run away, and even when confronting friede ame and friede are very civil with each other(?). Ame also knocked before going into liko's room lol

-amethio is higher rank than zir and conia, based on how they report to him, his clothes look different, they call him -sama and his battle prowess surpass them (compare liko vs zir and friede vs amethio)

- i said amethio is high rank but i feel he isn't the big boss, since the details about the pendant is unknown to him. There must be a reason why it's so important, but he didn't know why, he only follow orders. He knew to some extent her grandma gave the pendant but not its qualities, Which is kinda weird if you're about to break laws for this thing? That said he's also quick thinking, he just found out about the gleam of light and how it saves liko in danger, and he adjusted his objective immediately (get pendant > get pendant & liko). It also look like he was reporting to someone in ep 3 preview.

Based on this, his strength + his freedom to make decisions i speculate he's admin level at least 🤔

-The explorers as an organisation is also shrouded in mystery. Their name is neutral sounding, but friede said they're notorious, and his teammates are shocked/displeased when they found out explorers are involved. Amethio didn't know who friede was, so they've never met before. He was also surprised friede fought with pikachu and thought friede was toying with him (he will be humbled later), which means explorers don't know about friede's team composition also. I wonder what else explorers have done to gain infamous reputation amd how friede came to know about them

That's all i have for now, im really looking forward to next ep. They've caught sprigatito and want to exchange for pendant & liko it seems. I really like how they're written, how ame especially takes his mission very seriously even going into a storm to chase liko. However he still maintain professionalism and be civil with his opponents and liko. I really like that about him. Even in ep3 preview he seem to treat sprigatito nicely despite it being their hostage

-It seems grunts get skarmory and that one other pkmn zir used that i cant remember as standard issued pokemons. I wonder what conia has, is it the same as him (Offtopic but i love how zir shows concern for his pkmn when it was attacked by sprigatito, it's cute)

EDIT: FORGOT TO ADD amethio is also never mean to his zir and conia, he didn't reprimand them even if they failed to catch liko, and they're also loyal to him, even going as far as flying into a storm under his order. Very interesting dynamic i hope to see more of them

I hope we get to see more of zir and conia's personality next time, im really loving this team. I also hope we get to learn more about their organisation. See you in ep3!

Since today is Autism Acceptance Day, I figured a good way to celebrate is to give a list of all the characters across all forms of Pokémon media that I headcanon as autistic! I have already done character analyses for the Sinnoh Trio (Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum), as well as Crispin, and I collaborated with my friend @sinnohanvulpix to make an analysis about Goh a while back (though Vulpix wrote it and posted it, but we came up with the contents of the analysis together, and I reblogged it), so if you haven't seen those, please feel free to check them out!

It makes me so happy to see so many autistic-coded characters in Pokémon. Pokémon is my main special interest and I always get excited when engaging in any form of Pokémon media, and seeing autistic-coded characters just makes it even better and the characters much more relatable for me!

As a Friede enjoyer myself, regarding your recap/analysis of Friede from the most recent epsiode, I just gotta add: Friede's line of "Keep going! Take care of Cap!" as he stays behind to face off against an insanely strong Pokemon that he just pissed off while the mine is already collapsing all around him ... He might at this point fully expect to not make it out of there but he WILL make sure Moltres is going down with him instead of chasing after Liko and Roy. And he leaves Cap in their care.

YELLS YOU GET IT!!

Friede without any hesitation had Charizard attack the Moltres as soon he saw it was chasing the kids. He didn't run after them, only told them to keep Cap safe. He was committed to stay behind and face this dangerous Pokemon if it meant Liko, Roy and Cap would make it out safely. The way the mine entrance collapsed as they exited had me wondering whether it had been intentional on Friede's end or Moltres had started attacking again, causing damage to its surroundings.

A part of me is hoping to see Friede and Amethio get affected by the black flames that sapped away at their energy cause I want to see them on the ground, desperate to get up in front of this angry Legendary.

Oh for sure had Spinel been in possession of Ceruledge, he would definitely go for Friede instead. This is the same guy that had Beheeyem fire off a base 120 power Meteor Beam to take out both Friede and Charizard, as well as have his Magneton attack Quaxly that's being held by Dot. Easiest way to end a Pokemon battle is to incapacitate the Trainer commanding the Pokemon. Cap's shown that he's able to battle pretty effectively and make snap decisions on his own but we don't know whether Charizard is the same.

Also how did you predict what I'm slowly writing next? (lighthearted) I doubt that we'll get that seeing that Friede's up and alright to help the kids from the preview but that's why I do what-if scenes haha. Have this small snippet from the piece.

The life and times of an earthling and a venusian: A relationship analysis

It's 1:23 AM right now but I don't give a fuck i'm writing an analysis on why Doyle and Milo's dynamic means so much to me!!

(Note that i'll only be mentioning plot points from episodes 1-4 on this post)

Ok, where to start? Well, when they first meet of course!

So in Welcome to Galaxy High, Doyle has been kinda sticking together with Aimee because he's a little cautious (and rude) about the non-earth life in the school but as soon as he sees Milo? Instantly jovial, even giving him a high five. After that he spends a good chunk of the episode with Milo as he gets shown around the school, embarrassing himself in the process.

But through all of these scenes does Milo throw in the towel and walk away, leaving Doyle to fend for himself because he's being annoying? No! He stays! With! Him! Even when Doyle is busy humiliating himself over his wounded pride Milo is right there behind him, ready to help him whenever things go sour.

When Doyle decides to not be an insufferable prick and attempts (putting emphasis on "attempt") to befriend the Bonk Bunch, leading to him being thrown in a french fryer, you know who carries him to Icenstein to get him fixed up? That's right, Milo.

In the first few seconds of Pizza's Honor we are already shown that Doyle and Milo are cooperating at the pizza parlor, to the point where I would go as far as to say that they are perfectly in sync with each other (Which is amazing in my opinion considering they've probably known each other for a week at max or two days at the minimum)!

I don't really have much to say about this ep because Milo is barely there, but I will mention that he was 1) the first one to get out of Ollie's taxi when they hit Doyle and that 2) he was DESPERATE to get Doyle the Fuck outta there when Milo thought that he was potentially in danger.

In The Beef Who Would Be King, Milo doesn't get much screentime either but scenes where he is with Doyle are spent showing the viewers more of their dynamic (Also the Harold Horsefly scene. Poor Harold).

Now to the MEAT AND POTATOES of this essay, Where's Milo?

This episode. Oh god this episode.

I actually wrote an analysis on the ending and general plot of this episode in the youtube comments section of this episode BUT I need to go deeper! And by deeper I mean more into ship territory!

The fucking episode starts out them going to an ice cream parlor to get milkshakes which has to be like. The MOST adorably romantic thing i've seen on this green earth. But of course Beef has to be a bitch and ruin everything, kickstarting the main conflict of the episode as well as fucking up their date.

After this Milo is seen being humiliated and blamed for things that aren't his fault like 90% while Doyle presumably comes forward to grab him and get out of there once the time is right (ie. A complete ROLE REVERSAL of their dynamic in the first episode), and even letting Milo vent to him. There was only one time that Doyle was mad at him and even then it was basically for a few minutes.

(Ok here's the part where I yoinked and edited my essay from the youtube comment I made to further prove my point)

Just.

The fact that Doyle was only mad at Milo for a few seconds and went back to being with him, working alongside him with no complaint even running after him when Luigi fired him (Which is kinda anime ngl), while everyone else hated Milo's guts is what fucking gets me!

He genuinely cares for Milo so much that he stayed by his side when everyone turned their backs on him and even dealt out a collective "Fuck you, guys!" to the entire GHG (Galaxy High Gang) when they shit talked Milo after he disappeared!

At the end of the episode when Doyle grabs Milo's hand and tells him "That's what friends are for.", his voice is SO incredibly gentle, and you just know they've taken turns wiping away each other's tears! Even if you don't ship them like I do, you can't deny that Milo brings out the best in Doyle and that Doyle gives Milo more confidence!

Simply being there for each other when times get tough is enough to keep them going and that is legitimately so beautiful! I'm basically rambling at this point but I just have so many feelings about these two it's not even funny!

People really ship Aimee and Doyle like Milo is non-existent because of heteronormativity (Also Aimee and Doyle are... Kind of dicks to each other. There would need to be more character development for both of them before Aimee and Doyle could have a relationship that is based off of love rather than a power imbalance. (I'm not saying it isn't possible but damn are they gonna have to work for it)) when Doyle and Milo's dynamic is SOOOO interesting as well as adorable!

Also Doyle should've gotten to kill Al Gatori. As a treat. Get that gator fuck.

No seriously though fuck Al Gatori all my homies hate Al Gatori.

Idk if anyone's ever pointed it out before, but you were spot on your analysis about the amourshipping kiss back in 2016. It's like you predicted everything to a T. From them pretending the kiss never happened if Serena got a cameo to no ship ever becoming canon lol

I deserve no credit though I just thought what would make the most sense in the narrative and hey they pulled a fast one on me too, she did appear but with another character and only met Ash for 5 seconds just so they didn't have to deal with the consequences of the kiss, brilliant really.

I also foolishly assumed Pokemon would never end and...well they got me there haha

For no ship being canon they are ten year olds, Ash isn't interested in romance at all and it would be ooc for him to ever have the interest. He'd have to grow up right? They'll never do that, he's an eternal 10 year old therefore the most they can do is hint at it. I will say I think Pokeshipping is dead in the water canonically just because MPM did absolutely nothing, but MPM also ripped Brock's goal right out from him and I'm mad about it.

But yeah no ship is canon, Amour is still the most implied because they never went back to Pokeshipping but it's a very small implication you can still ship what you want and you can pry Negaishipping from my cold dead hands.

People really need to stop fighting though, and Liko isn't Ash's daughter I hope the fanbase lets that go soon

Yes naman, nagka time din ako na i-put into writing mga thoughts and experiences ko this week haha! So eto na, may trabaho na ako and naka 1 week na ako. Dapat nung Monday pa ako magsusulat para intense emotions kaso mas intense yung pagod ko haha. So finally, may work na ako. Na hire ako sa competitor na naman ni Argus, ang aking alma mater haha char. Currently working as Key Account Manager na ako for CIBI yey! Hahaha sobrang happy ako kasi alam ko sa sarili ko na kahit nakapikit ako, alam ko kung ano gagawin ko. Sabi na nga ba at worth it yung pag alis ko sa qResults eh. Tama talaga yung intuition ko, nag immediate resignation ako kasi may padating na bago at mas better.

So nung Monday, hinatid at sinundo ako ni mama kasi first day ko haha malay ko ba kasi kung anong pasikot sikot sa Makati, first time ko mag work dun. Na overwhelm ang Ada nung first day sa haba ng lalakarin para makasakay hahaha! From BDO Equitable Tower to Greenbelt 1 haha e syempre di ako pamilyar kaya parang ang layo haha! Pero happy ako nung day 1 hanggang day 5! Nung 2nd day, kabado ako kasi nag van na ako at mag isa na lang ako. Iba pala yung babaan ng van at bus hahahahaha kinabahan ako kasi isang maling liko ko lang sa The Enterprise alam kong maliligaw ako haha pero sinunod ko instict ko at tama naman. Super struggle lang talaga ako sa underpass kasi pabobo bobo ako sa analysis kung saan ako dapat umakyat na escalator haha pero ayun, successful naman papunta at pauwi. Yung Wednesday ang sobrang epic putangina namin ni Paulyn hahaha! Okay sa alright nung morning, sarap ng breakfast at kwentuhan namin sa Mcdo sa Paseo Center kasi halos katabi lang ng office buildings namin. Yung nakakagago, yung pag uwi namin hahaha. Kakaiwas namin sa mga underpass, nakakahiya, tumawid kami dun sa isang kalsada tapos pagdating namin sa gitna, naka lock yung gate/grills hahaha pota balik kami eh, tapos naisip namin na sa Ayala Triangle kumain, tangina sarado na mga kainan hahaha so balik na naman kami, finally nag decide kami na mag Army Navy na lang, sa may Dela Rosa kasi sa taas nun yung terminal na sinasakyan namin. So ayun na nga, sarap na naman ng kain at tawanan namin, nag bibiruan pa kami na pag akyat namin sa terminal sasabihin ng dispatcher na kakaalis lang ng last trip hahaha! So after namin kumain, may binili pa sya sa subway, tagal namin dun kasi dami niya request at questions. Eto na nga hahahahaha pag akyat namin sa Terminal, wala nang van at wala nang tao kahit isa HAHAHAHAHAHAHA tawa kami ng tawa putangina pero at the same time kabado na kami kasi wala kaming maisip na sakayan. Yung p2p sa tapat ng Greenbelt 1 hanggang 7 pm lang hahaha eh 7:30 na kami lumabas ng subway at wala na kaming maisip na sakayan na malapit lang sana. So wala kami choice, nag punta kami ng SM Makati, kahit byaheng Bacoor na lang G na hahaha makauwi lang. ang tagal namin nag hintay ng van, naglolokohan pa kami na aantayin pa namin yung umalis na van hahaha! Tawang tawa pa kami kasi dumaan yung van sa shortcut pa Molino, di na naman namin alam saan kami ibababa ng driver hahahaha pagod na pagod na kami that time pero laptrip kasi yung katabi kong lalaki sa van kinalabit ako, sabi “miss bente mo” so kinuha ko HAHAHAHAHA pero alam ko na wala akong bente hahahaha tapos tangina ni Paulyn nakikinig pala at alam din niya na wala akong bente HAHAHAHAHA pagbaba namin ng van sabi niya agad “tangina mo nagka bente ka pa, ipamasahe na natin sa jeep yan” hahahahahaha sorry aken talaga, wala na akong nagawa nung inabot sa akin yung bente kaya kinuha ko na hahaha! Tawa kami ng tawa habang naglalakad kami sa loob ng subdivision kasi ang saklap na nasa taas lang terminal, di pa kami nakasakay hahahaha! Yung Thursday ko, okay naman bukod sa medyo minulto ako ng kahapon. Paano kasi hahahahahaha pinapatulong ako sa Accenture putanginaaaa HAHAHAHAHAHA sobrang tindi daw ng backlogs nila kaya tulungan ko daw sila umahon hayup. So nung Friday, nag accenture ako maghapon. Kakatuwa lang na nakausap ko ulit si Jason sa phone kagaya ng dati haha ang cute lang! Bukod dun, sobrang sakit ng katawan ko kahapon hahaha kasi magkakaroon na pala ako. Alam ko talaga kapag di kaya ng katawan ko, pag baba ko ng van, nag grab ako and same pauwi. Sobrang nanghihina tuhod ko and feeling ko di ko kakayanin yung stairs ng underpass. Plus siguro nabigla katawan ko sa lakad namin ni Paulyn. HAHAHAHAHAHA mga bubu kasi eh.

So far, happy ako. Sure ako dun. Di ko ma explain, may kakaiba sa office. Bukod sa masyadong nice or either walang pakialamanan yung mga tao. Siguro sabik na sabik din ako sa office set up. Alam mo yung nakaka pagod yung means of getting there pero pag nasa loob ka na, sobrang sarap sa feeling. Alam kong happy ako kasi hindi ako magpapakahirap mag byahe dun kung di ako happy. Nakakatuwa din na alam ko na yung gagawin ko sa work, oo may konting adjustments but I already know how to play the game. Can’t wait na mag flourish ako sa CIBI. This time, pinangako ko sa sarili ko na I’ll have a comeback pagdating sa career ko. Eto na yon, I’ll do my very best. Happy ako kasi, nag take na naman ako ng risk and happy ako sa outcome. Naalala ko tuloy yung last question ni CIBI, ano daw ang willing akong i-give up para sa career ko. I said, my comfort zone. Never have I ever imagined na aalis ako ng Alabang. After kong ma experience yung comfort sa place and convenience sa byahe. Pero, ayun nga, nag take ako ng risk and I am more than happy sa outcome. Kaya promise ko talaga sa sarili ko na susubukan ko nang bawasan pagka routine person ko. Lalabas na ako lagi sa comfort zone ko kasi there’s so much offer outside, even better than what I’m asking.
