Here’s best boi and best girl! Meet Fox (He/They) and Lilyhop, they are half-siblings and two of the protagonists in the story. Lilyhop was the youngest of Star Snakethorn’s first litter, since Sun Snakethorn focused all his attention on her older sibling Lilacstream and neglected Lilyhop, Violetdawn became Lily’s surrogate mother.

Fox is the oldest of Snakethorn’s third litter, growing up, he had to deal with Snakethorn’s abuse towards him and his mother, Silverbreeze. Fox and their siblings were ostracized from their clan members, especially from fellow apprentices who thought they were just spoiled, stuck-up, brats. The only comfort Fox had was Flamewhisper, Lilyhop, and grandmother Lemonberry.

Meet Eaglecry and Star Snakethorn!

Meet Hidden Flame’s antagonist Star Snakethorn and his father and former leader of the Blazing Suns, Eaglecry.

Both very nasty! Eaglecry was a really bad father to his sons, he spoiled Snakethorn because he was the oldest and therefore the heir to the leader position, neglected Flamewhisper, and abused Zephyrmoon because he considered them ‘bad luck’ (Zephyr’s melanistic) and because he saw them as weak because he chose the path of a sage.

Snakethorn on the other hand is more of a persuasive and manipulative kind of cat, he likes to use his calm and friendly demeanor to manipulate cats to follow his lead and do what he wants. His father pushed him to mate with another clanmate named Heatherbloom, Snakethorn (wanting to appease his father and produce some heirs) obliged and the two later gave birth to Lilacfur and Lilyhop, unfortunately Heatherbloom died from birth complications.

Later on, he encountered Widowmoon (who was still grieving and vulnerable due to lossing most of her siblings and her father) and thought she was quite pretty. So like all manipulative villians, managed to sweet talk her and convince her to ‘let go of her grievances’ (AKA One-night stand) and she ended up pregnant with Pale and Aspen.

Brushing off Widowmoon (I’m so sorry my sweet girl 😢) Snakethorn became mates with a wise and well-respected warrior named Silverbreeze and fathered Fox, Finch, and Moon.

During this time, Star Eaglecry was becoming elderly and frail, not being able to fulfill his duties. Snakethorn was growing tired of having to wait this his father croak so he hatched a plan to murder S. Eaglecry, he lured his father to the Howling Tunnels and murdered him in cold blood. As he was about to leave, a coyote pack appeared towards him, attracted by the smell of Eaglecry’s corpse. Snakethorn took advantage of this and let the pack eat the corpse, and continued to feed them prey he had found/took from the freshkill pile, striking up an alliance that will endanger his clan.

Got around to redesigning Lilyshine’s ref!

Problems with the old design

The neck fur looks kinda silly on Lily, I wanted to make it look like a feather boa but it instead looks like one of those neck pillows for airplanes. Plus, it gets really tedious to draw.

Their design looks busy, I added way too many spots and apples. It would be a pain in the ass to draw but it'll be an absolute nightmare to animate that shit.

Changes I made

Added fewer markings and made Lilyshine’s neck fur into a mane.

Gave her a more stocky and short build.

Changed suffix into ‘shine’ because she's the sun to Zephyrmoon’s moon; hence shine as in ‘the shining sun’ and her ‘shining personality’.
