VIZ Media just put a bunch of official, complete anime on YouTube for free
Exactly what it says on the tin. Here's the link to the official article from Viz. There are ads* ofc but to be able to watch these for free in HD is a pretty big deal.
Note that they are all Japanese dub, English sub. (The subtitles are not YouTube captions but part of the video itself, for whomever it may concern)
Here's the current list w/ links to the official playlists:
Death Note (All 37 episodes)
Hunter x Hunter (Seasons 1-3, 148 episodes)
Inuyasha (COMPLETE SERIES W/ ALL THE MOVIES)
Mr. Osomatsu (Seasons 1 & 2, 50 episodes)
Naruto (Seasons 1-8, 220 episodes)
Sailor Moon (COMPLETE SERIES)
Handful of other movies, 4 of them are Inuyasha that's already been stated above but includes TIGER & BUNNY, K Missing Kings, Accel World, etc.
I hope this helps someone who's been wanting to watch one these shows! I know most people don't get news from Viz so I didn't want this to just go quietly under the radar because this is actually p nice to have in a world where you either have to pay for or pirate everything. I really hope they add more titles in the future!
*Also, they say ads but I use Firefox w/ uBlock and all the other anti-capitalist goodies and I've watched the first SM episode and gotten no ads so this may actually be an avoidable thing for a lot of us so like,,, go watch some free anime luv lmao
EDIT: I have been informed that this is not available in counties outside of America. Which isn't surprising but is disappointing. If someone w/ a VPN wants to let me know if they can work around this lmk and I'll update here.
EDIT 2: Quote from an Anon:
"Windscribe VPN on my phone worked for watching Viz media's anime uploads! I'm sure there's better and less limited free options but that's the one I found with a quick search to try it out. Haven't tried it on a laptop though so can't comment on it's viability there."
Tysm for letting me know Anon!!
EDIT 3: Via @eunbinppap
#one of protonvpn's free options is the us

I am a stupid person. Where should I begin reading about economics.
update: added pdfs for the books
where you should begin depends on what you want to know. my response is long so i'm putting it under a readmore
if you want to know about economic theory, that's one thing; if you want to know about economics in practice (i.e. the way economies operate), that's another. these things are related, but they're often in separate books.
if there's something you want to know about specifically feel free to ask--i may or may not be able to provide a suggestion on what you should read. my wheelhouse is mainly international economics and political economy so note that my recommendations are not the end-all-be-all of the field.
i've uploaded pdfs for all of these books here: https://gofile.io/d/hDB9vU i wasn't able to find a pdf of the 2020 edition of the Frieden but i was able to find the 2017 edition.
the first recommendation i have is unfortunately a textbook. theoretical foundations are important 😔
An Introduction to International Economics: New Perspectives on the World Economy by Kenneth Reinert
this book's focus is primarily on neoclassical economic theory (which is often what people mean when they say "economics"), but it provides a strong foundation for thinking about markets, trade, and currencies.
i also want to note here that economic theories are best thought of as lenses through which to look at phenomena. all of these lenses illuminate some things and obfuscate others. so the utility of a given theory is dependent upon what you're trying to examine.
2. The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy: An Economist Examines the Markets, Power, and Politics of World Trade by Pietra Rivoli
this book is a lot of fun, and falls pretty squarely into the "political economy" camp. Rivoli takes as her subject a t-shirt from a walgreens in florida (if memory serves), and follows the chain of production, to find out how it got there--as well as where shirts like it might go after being purchased. along the way she looks at the dynamics of production in practice, so she looks at the role of labor, firms, governments, brokers, etc.
i would almost recommend starting with this one or reading it alongside the Reinert so you aren't raw-dogging a textbook.
3. Global Capitalism: Its Fall and Rise in the Twentieth Century and Its Stumbles in the Twenty-First by Jeffry Frieden
for this one, you'll want to read the 2020 edition because the 2007 edition doesn't talk about the global financial crisis of 2008. this is a book that really is what it says on the tin--a history of global capitalism. it's particularly useful for understanding the origins and consequences of the postwar economic order. it contains some good discussions of keynesian economics and the neoliberal school of thought that followed.
4. World-Systems Analysis: An Introduction by Immanuel Wallerstein
this one's not a crucial read, but it covers a different way of thinking about basic economic units in international economics (i.e. not limiting one's economic analysis to nation-state units but instead thinking about the global economy as a system).
5. Running Steel, Running America by Judith Stein
i've put this book here because the latter half of the book essentially goes through how and why american production changed in the latter half of the 20th century, focusing chiefly on the production of steel. (this is another political economy book.) Stein illustrates the consequences of US foreign policy for the domestic economy, particularly during the 1970s--a crucial period. the whole book is worth reading, but the first half deals more with labor and politics so it's not directly related to your question.
feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need clarification on something here👍

It’s Feral Friday!
This week we’re highlighting a couple of artists’ book selections from our collection of Ediciones Vigía publications: Ritual de Sobrevida by Natalia Bolívar, and Cuento para un Hombre que Lloró Tapándose el Rostro by Digdora Alonso. Ritual de Sobrevida (translation: Survival Ritual) was edited by Laura Ruiz, translated by Guadalupe Vento, and designed with drawings by Rolando Estévez Jordán. It was published by Ediciones Vigía in Mantanzas, Cuba in 2011. Cuento para un Hombre que Lloró Tapándose el Rostro (translation: A story about a man who cried, covering his face) was edited by Gladys Mederos and designed with drawings by Rolando Estévez Jordán. It was published by Ediciones Vigía in a limited edition of 200 copies in Matanzas in 2000. Both of these works are highly interactive & sculptural, and are best experienced in person!
Ediciones Vigía (translation: Watchtower Editions) is an independent publisher located in Matanzas, Cuba that was co-founded by artist Rolando Estévez Jordán and poet Alfredo Zaldívar in 1985 as a gathering place for artists and writers to commune. Though their initial print ventures were limited to broadside flyers promoting meetings, they soon evolved into a book publishing house.
Working collaboratively, the artists, writers, and community volunteers of Ediciones Vigía employ repurposed materials such as butcher paper, yarn, fabric, leaves, dried flowers, and tin foil to create unique handmade editions in runs of 200 or less. While the material limitations of the publishing house do echo the economic limitations of everyday life in Cuba, Estévez has asserted that the handmade aesthetic of their publications was not chosen strictly "out of material need or because there existed no other possibilities…. Vigía emerges out of aesthetic necessities."

The GENIUS use of ✨️symbolism✨️ in this scene ugh
Tumblr media
Aka, another mini Din charachter analysis for my own RD Comic script editing/dialougue brainstorming purposes, but wrote it on my phone and just had to share it with how cute it was.
Though I speculate and infer quite a bit, I don't think my analysis is too much of a reach, meh take it or leave it I wrote this at 3 am 🫠: literary girlies, eat your hearts out!
Mando saves g from a killer droid, just like his mentor saved him from a killer droid. In this act, he is distinguishing himself from the bounty droid next to him. Aside from the obvious parallel of his mentor rescuing him from a killer doid, It is very symbolic for the change that mando is undergoing as a person in that moment, and I think it gives alot of Insight into the emotional arc he undergoes both before and during the show (and what we'll be exploring ALOT in the comic 😁)
The droid's only motive and scope of concern is fundamentally limited to the parameters of its programming: get the job done, be efficient, etc. It cannot violate these protocols unless it is physichally reprogrammed by another person (happens with kuille but not really the purpose of/relevant to this point): it is stuck that way, never able to change, never ever meant to.
Mando lived life in a similar way. Having lost everything, hyperfocusing on following the Creed (getting stronger, better, etc) and providing for his tribe gave him anchorage, a sense of control and stability: it became his identity: his programming. He clung to it, and the fear of possibly losing or the unpredictability of compromising the thing that made the world make sense with something else ultimately drove him to emotionally and physichally iscolate himself, set strict parameters he was not to violate. It was a warped use of and him hiding behind the Creed to cope: he remained loyal to his tribe, to his duty and the role he was supposed to fulfill as a Mandalorian, but never let himself really feel or live, only focus: get the job done, be efficient, fulfill your purpose...like a droid.
A killer droid...
He tried to tell himself that he was nothing like a droid, not even like soldiers: he was a warrior, who lives to fight...he didn't fight to live...to carry on. He couldn't be one, he didnt follow orders, he followed a duty, a higher purpose, a conviction...
But...only that.
He had become just like the thing he hated in the first place.
Even if the purpose and culture he followed were good, that's all he was doing: following, not living for himself while maintaining that discipline. He didint know how, couldnt grapple risking trying to be a Mandalorian in any other way except this...his identity: his self-imposed programming.
But...
The symbolic difference and distinguismnet from the droid next to him is that unlike IG-11, Mando is able to break through, undermine and render this programming obsolete.
In seeing himself, a innocent little boy at the mercy of the terrible evils of this galaxy, reflected in G's eyes, he's able to feel...to be human...to be alive...
and it might be the first time he's felt like it in decades.
Finally being brave enough to venture beyond the parameters of his rules and habits, those built on and sustained by a visceral fear and anxiety, for something more, something precious, our little G.
"I am...nothing like them"
Fuck I can't wait to incorporate this 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
Funnily enough, sweet girl reprograms Din in a similar (albeit a little different) way a few months later, and may or may not have been involved in the reprogramming (specifically insisting on med protocols) of another very important tin can, though she had no way of knowing that one would eventually come save the other's life.

been thinking about bj's biscuit tin and wanted to identify it. it looks to be the daher biscuit tin from possiblyyy 1975
Tumblr media
while other daher biscuit tins are very easily accessible on ebay, this auction is the only one that has the white one. bj's version seems to be shallower and missing the bottom detail so it's possible that it was a limited edition that we can't find anymore
the good news is that other daher vintage biscuit tins and tea tins range from $10-$35 dollars on ebay if anyone wants one for themselves (i suggest only typing "daher tin" into ebay)
