i saw someone on twitter writing qsmp names in korean and im trying so hard not to be bothered i know they have good intentions but it was just so wrong in parts so instead here's how qsmp names would be written in korean BY THE SOUND not how they're written. note that i am not korean nor on the korean side of qsmptwt but as a casual kpoppie it's a rite of passage to learn hangul and try to learn korean at one point therefore though i am not a trusted source i do know the basics of the phonetics LUL
alphabetical order & categorized!
get ready for me to infodump on mouth sounds
update from the morning after this post: fixed/optimized some!!!
english speaking creators:
badboyhalo: 밷보이헤이로 (baed-bo-i-he-i-ro/lo) i infer it'd be easier to just call him 헤이로 out of every part of him name please let's halo-truth bbh. the 헤이 slurs into the "hey/hei" sound, very little accentuation on the just one part, it works as one!!
dantdm: 단티디엠 or 댄티디엠 (dan-ti-di-em, daen-ti-di-em) i've heard both pronunciations for the name dan, it's a matter of preference here! EDIT: also possibly 댼 instead which is also daen but like, not really? but also they're really similar? and i don't know how to hear the difference but there is one and nevermind don't worry about it man
fit: 피트 (pi-teu) directly would be 핕 but that's just a tricky one it's bound to have a soft ㅡ sound following
foolish: 푸리쓰 or 푸리쌰? (pu-ri/li-sseu, pu-ri/li-ssya) THIS ONE IS TRICKY if it does go 쌰 it's be a soft one, but more likely 쓰 EDIT: IS IT 풀리쎠 (peul-ri-ssyeo) ?!?!?!? IM STILL ON THIS FOOLISH IS SO TOUGH TO PUT INTO HANGUL IM NOT GONNA BE OVER IT
ironmouse: 아이욘마우스 or 아이룐마우스 (a-i-yon-ma-u-seu, a-i-ryon/lyon-ma-u-seu) this one feels tit for tat, same same, just a minor difference in accentuating the r in iron or not! EDIT: could also be 아이런 (a-i-reon) or 아이론 (a-i-ron) !!!
jaiden: 제이든 (je-i-deun) no notes very easy and straightforward one
lenay: 르네이 (reu/leu-ne-i) same with jaiden's!
nihachu / niki: 니하추 or 니아추, 니키 (ni-ha-chu, ni-a-chu, ni-ki) another same same thing with ni-HA or ni-A, just depends on accentuation or not! the 추 may possibly be said as 츄 instead, but im unsure of which
philza: 피르쟈, 피르 (pi-reu/leu-jya, pi-reu/leu) no notes, straightforward! as you will come to notice, f's usually translate to ㅍ's, and z's usually translate to ㅈ's!
quackity: 콰키티 (kua/kwa-ki-ti) no notes! i heard like months back that quackity's korean fandom endearingly calls him 키티 i think?? fun fact i remembered :)
slimecicle / charlie: 스라임씨컬, 챨이 (seu-ra/la-im-ssi-keol/keor, chyal/chyar-i) wow okay so how do you write charlie in korean because i KNOW there's no way it's 챠르리 (chya-reu-ri) my tongue is tripping over the 르리, it has to be 챨이, or 챠리, or 챨리 right??? okay the more i think the more 챨리 (chyal-li) sounds right ok everyone go home i think it's 챨리 LUL
tinakitten / tina: 티나키던, 티나 (ti-na-ki-deon, ti-na) no notes! straightforward!
tubbo: 터뽀 (teo-bbo) no notes! but also i feel like there's other ways to write it that im just not convinced are correct LUL
wilbur soot: 윌버 쑽 (wil/wir-beo ssut) no notes!
spanish speaking creators:
carre: 카레 (ka-re) no notes!
elmariana: 에르마리아나 or 엘마리아나 (e-reu/leu-ma-ri/li-a-na, el-ma-ri-a-na) the reason why i included 에르 alongside 엘 is because it ends up sounding like "ed", the L/R sound in korean is in that same range and when said fast or cut abruptly like 엘, it sounds like a D, if not for context :) so 엘 COULD work! but it'd be hard to recognize it as an L/R sound without some extra space made for the sound. this is also relevant for elquackity!
german: 헤르만 or 헬만 (he-reu/leu-man, her/hel-man) same thing as last note applies here! it'd sound like HED-man more than HER-man but, still, could work!
luzu, arin: 루쥬 or 루주, 아린 (ru/lu-jyu, ru/lu-ju, a-rin/lin) no notes! i see luzu more said with the 쥬 sound instinctively but it's one of those either or i think EDIT: if it were the spain pronunciation i think it'd be 루튜 (lu-tyu) or 루뜌 (lu-ddyu) ??? the thhh sound doesn't exist in korean but this is the closest it gets i think
maximus, maxo: 맠수머스, 맠서 (mak-su-meo-seu, mak-seo) okay at this point my brain is mush and im sure there's a better way to write this but it's a tricky one. the 맠 could also be 막 (mag) but im unsure where in the mouth the difference is between 맠 and 막, because hangul is very mouth oriented, it's allll about tongue placement, and i am SO not on that X_X EDIT: i change my mind it's 막 for maximus but 맠서 is fine i think idk how to explain is just is. also alternate pronunciationfor maximus: 막씨머스 (mag-ssi-meo-seu)
missa sinfonia: 미싸 씬퍼냐 (mi-ssa ssin-peo-nya) yeah that seems about right (my brain is melting everything is hangul) no notes! EDIT: ok but IS it possibly 미사 (mi-sa)??? im doubting myself here
polispol, pol: 폴에쓰폴, 폴 (pol-e-sseu-pol, pol) no notes!
rivers: 리버스 (ri/li-beo-seu) no notes!
roier: 로이예 or 로이옐 (ro/lo-i-ye, ro/lo-i-yer/yel) this is one of those scenarios where an abrupt L/R sound works just fine! don't know how to explain it! but it just works!
rubius: 루비어스 (ru-bi-eo-seu) no notes!
spreen: 스프린 (seu-peu-rin) no notes!
vegetta: 베헷따 (be-het-dda) okay i don't know how to explain but tonalities of how you say vegetta in spanish make me think 베 and that the tta would be equal to the sharpness of 따 stick with me here i've been doing hangul names for so long now i can't see the end of the horizon EDIT: for some reason im changing my mind it might be 페헷따 (pe-het-dda)
willyrex, willy: 위리렉스, 위리 (wi-ri-reg-seu, wi-ri) okay again idk how to explain but the reason why ㄱ and not ㅋ is because it just feels like it instinctively, like that's a deep ㄱ abrubt stop, not a high ㅋ abrupt stop. im losing my marbles
portuguese speaking creators:
bagi: 바지 (ba-ji) no notes!
cellbit: 셀비트 (sel-bi-teu) guys this is getting hard. yes it's somehow sel and not se-leu. yes it's bi-teu and somehow not bit. if it were bit it'd be missing the aftermath TCH sound and i think it sounds good with it. the sel has space to breathe and isn't abrupt. stay with me. we're almost done EDIT: fellow hangul enjoyer anon in ask box said 셀빛 (sel-bich/bit) or 셀비츠 (sel-bi-cheu) if with the accent, i like these, ur getting put on the fridge with the best magnets. 빛 is a fun one because it sounds pretty much the same to 빝 or 빗, all end in the same stop of the tongue going to the roof of the mouth, but 빛 in particular means "light" and i think that's nice :)
felps: 펠릅스 (pel-reub-seu) holy moly i didn't expect this to be a tongue twister but i think i nailed it
mike: 마이크 or 마이키 (ma-i-keu, ma-i-ki) i've heard mike being called mikey so i included it for fun because there's been so much hardship. so so much. we're in this together.
pac: 팩 or 패크 (paeg, pae-keu) paeg and not paek because it's just a more throat based sound to say pac idk man. pae-keu is a hypothetical im losing it man i don't know anything anymore EDIT: okay i change my mind it's definitely 패크 over 팩 im so loopy from hyperfocus overload man EDIT EDIT: i can also see 팍 (pak) being used though that isn't how it sounds for us, i can see someone saying it that way in korean if they were to read it before hearing it and then go from there
french speaking creators:
antoine daniel: 안투완 단옐 (an-tu-wan dan-yel) in french the a's are long so 단 over 댄 is a guaranteed. the yel could be accentuated more but you get the point by now
aypierre: when french accent, 아이피에히, when english accent, 에이피에어 (a-i-pi-e-hi, e-i-pi-e-eo) (thank u anon for contributing 피에어 that makes much more sense)
baghera jones: one way is 바게라 전스 the other is 바길라 전스 (ba-ge-ra jeon-seu, ba-gil/gir-ra jeon-seu) a baGERa or bagEARa dilemma.....
etoiles: 에투왈 (e-tu-wal/war) no notes!
kameto: 카메토 (ka-me-to) no notes!
THERE!!!! IT'S DONE!!!! this was hard but i feel like i got most right. and when im wrong let's just say this was just hangul practice and not serious right guys, just practice round, right??? we don't take me so serious, right??? just stick fight with totem??? if you know korean especially the phonetics better than me which is NOT a high bar at all, you can step over that bar EASY, tell me a better way to write these thank u! smile :)
bonus round coming at you live from the morning after!!! some others that i thought "yeah let's include you"
im gonna be working on this on and off all day i think so don't be scared if someone isn't here chances are brain is doing something else but will add it later :)
cucurucho: 쿠쿠루쵸 (ku-ku-ru/lu-chyo) no notes!
walter bob: 월터 법 (weol/weor-teo beob) could also be 봅 (bob)
chayanne: 챠얀 (chya-yan) or 차얀 (cha-yan) no notes!
tallulah: 타룰라 (ta-lul-la) no notes!
ramon: 라몬 (ra-mon) or if you're pac you say 하몬 (ha-mon) heehee :)
dapper: 답퍼 (dab-peo) or possibly 답뻐 (dab-bbeo) but im not so sure about that one
leo / leonardo / leonarda: if you speak english it's 리오 (li-o) if you speak spanish it's 레오 (le-o), then add on 날도 (nar/nal-do) or 날다 (nar/nal-da) :)
richarlyson / richas: 리찰리손, 리차스 (ri-chal/char-li-son, ri-cha-seu) no notes!
pomme: 펌 (peom) or 폼 (pom) both work here!
trump: 트람프 or 트럼프, to make it trumpet change the 프 to 펫 (pet/ped)
tilin: 티린 (ti-lin/rin) no notes!
juanaflippa: 환나프리파 (hwan/huan-na-peu-li-pa)
bobby: 법비 (beob-bi) or 봅비 (bob-bi) both work here!
empanada: 엠파나다 (em-pa-na-da) no notes!
pepito: 페피토 (pe-pi-to) no notes!
sunny(sideup): 선니사읻엎 (seon-ni-sa-id-eop) this one works nicely because the 읻 bleeds into the 엎 and sounds like it's one full iddeop :) this one is an ending in ㅍ not ㅂ moment but i don't know how to explain why

2024 Watch List pt3
Takura-kun & Amagi-kun - This has lots of the Japanese traits that I don’t always love but I did find myself warmed by it. It’s basically two boys being teenage and idiotic whilst learning how to love and be loved. I really liked the two besties in this. 3/5 (13/3/24)
Although I love you, and you? - Apparently this is wildly different from the manga so people were hating on it but, with zero knowledge of the manga, I have to say I enjoyed it. Very silly but had a nice emotional depth to it and Sakae & Soga made for interesting leads. Also loved the little found family of friends and bar regulars. 3 ½/5 (15/3/24)
One Room Angel - This could really only be Japanese. Beautiful, bittersweet and healing this does come with a lot of trigger warnings but if you can stomach it’s darker elements it’s really worth the journey. 4/5 (26/3/24)
Love is science (BL cut) - Just about an hour on YouTube this was delightful. Undoubtedly would not have enjoyed all the different het storylines but these two should have been a show on their own. Just lush. (No rate because it’s a cut. 28/3/24)
Senpai this can’t be love - Errm. Elements I really liked, and I don’t think it’s anywhere near as bad as some make it out to be, but it did have a very naff ending and they deserved a better kiss. These two were cute but probably not one I’ll reach to rewatch. 3/5 (30/3/24)
WaterBoyy - I really only watched this because I’m a dumbass with completionist tendencies. It’s a show? The story and script are absolutely insane. There is so much het nonsense, which I entirely skipped, weird dated language and extremely 2017 dubcon. I can give a lot of old shows a pass for being of their time but this is bad even by 2017 standards. I’ll give it a half point for being moderately well acted. But that’s it. 1/2 (1/4/24)
Our Dating Sim - Very cute. Packed a surprising amount of story into a short time frame. Also delivered some nice kisses. 3/5 (2/4/24)
Jun & Jun - Enjoyed most of this. Episodes 5 & 6 felt a little redundant. Great kisses, much higher heat than standard for a K BL. Would have loved more from the manager & idol pairing, they had an interesting history and I’d like to have seen them a little more developed. I could understand why no man could resist Lee Jun’s face, a 100% cutie. 3/5 (3/4/24)
Love is better the second time around - Much to love about this one. The acting all round was stunning, Aloha as Senpai’s bitchy assistant was hilarious and I need him in a main BL role again soon, the leads were able to tell whole stories in subtle facial expressions. I think the end was satisfying but I did feel like it could have used 8 episodes instead of 6. 4/5 (10/4/24)
Unknown - Quite the surprise. I’m a little hesitant with the pseudo incest, brother lover whatever the hell you want to call it trope. But this was done beautifully well. A mild melodrama with slice of life and found family at its core this is wholly worth your time and I loved it a lot. 5/5 (20/4/24)
We Best Love (1) - I definitely did enjoy this but it also didn’t overly wow me. Shu Yi is my perfect brand of arrogant stupidity wrapped up in a pissed off little cat package so he was an easy and delightful sell for me. Also obsessed with the cousin doctor. Sam Lin and Yu have extremely good chemistry and I’m excited to watch the second series. 3 ½/5 (29/4/24)
Two Worlds - This was silly and pulpy from the get go and stayed that way. The holes have holes in this and the ending was very expected but, having said all this, I still very much enjoyed myself. Wandee knows that mindless pulp & MaxNat are a great combo and truly it is. Would make an easy, delicious spam. 3/5 (16/5/24)
Boys be brave - This felt more Japanese than Korean in some parts? Lots of character examination and broken boys being stubborn. (100% more so in the secondary pairing which really never got explored enough for my tastes.) Overall I found this very enjoyable and it didn’t entirely fluff its ending up. 3 ½/5 (16/5/24)
23.5 - I don’t think this is without its issues but the things it did well I feel it did really well. The teens in this were authentically stupid and all their problems were also accurately teen. Ignore reviews telling you the writing is bad, it isn’t, it’s just extremely specifically teen. None of the problems the girls have are relatable for adults honestly but if you’re someone who never outgrew your teen angst or is just able to remember that period well you’ll enjoy this. Milk & Love were superb as was the entire cast. I’d love more light GL stories like this one and less melodrama and sadness. 3 ½/5 (24/5/24)

it's kinda sad really but based on the poll, not a lot of people know about luna snow, white fox, aero, wave, etc! which is a shame because, genuinely, they’re really interesting characters!
sure, some of them has only appeared in one series or doesn’t even have a solo run, but here’s a quick rundown of a couple of asian supes that i think you all should know and love because its aapi and im a proud asian <3
before i start, do read new agents of atlas!! there are a lot of east asian heroes there :)
Let's start...!

Interestingly, she does occasionally save the world while juggling her idol life. Truly an icon. Also, fun fact! She has an official spotify and released songs so go stream!

White Fox
Tumblr media Tumblr media

However, obstacles in life turned her aside from that path. She was approached by AlonTech who used Pearl’s swimming abilities to conduct experiments on her. AlonTech was eventually attacked by the Triumph Division and during this attack, Pearl was exposed to several unknown energies which granted her the ability to control water.

hi audriel! Didnt know you had tumblr and had to double-check. I really love your fangrui fics on ao3! I noticed some were taken down? And thank you so much for always posting fangrui pics on discord!! Really appreciate it. Really like how approachable and friendly you are on discord, feels like talking to a friend who you can gush about fandom stuffs with, hope you have a good day ahead!
questions, when did you first started to like qzgs, and what made you do it? What are your top 3 fav chars? Did it ever change? What do you like about them?
hi anon! actually, i made my ao3 and tumblr account almost at the same time, so you're safe! i joined discord pretty recently, that's why i unfortunately lost my chance to use the name audriel there >_<
another fang rui lover! thank you! i'm glad you like them! <333
i'm just so happy that i found people who loves qzgs to gush over together. and to spread all the fang rui love. so thank you for being so kind and welcoming! it took quite a lot of courage for me to finally ask to join the server, and participate actively. it's thanks to everyone in the discord.
are you asking the moon in autumn? it's still there, but only accessible for ao3 users since it's a long fic, and i do have concerns for data scraping for fanfictions. if let's start thinkin' bout it gets long enough, i might end up doing the same. i might only unlock them for few days when there's a new update.
now onto your questions!
i'm pretty sure it's due to the pandemic. since i started to read a lot of korean webtoons/manhwa that's almost always adapted from webnovels, i ended up reading a lot of them during that time (there was not much to do but stay at home after all). however, they were very rarely completed. oh the horror. so i looked for recommendations and there was quan zhi gao shou/the king's avatar on the list. it's highly rated and reviewed, and it's completed! even though it's chinese webnovel and not the genre i usually read (online games, more so professional gaming), so i gave it a try, and boy i'm so very glad i do. i'm hooked.
it has everything i love to read in a story: a smart, powerful protagonist; rich, complex characters and world; and a wonderful storytelling.
the only downside? i'm late to the the fandom. QAQ
i think we all love ye xiu, it's no brainer right? he's perfect but also imperfect at the same time. his strength in character and in his belief is so admirable that i sorely wish i had a fraction of it. but at the same time as a protag, we didn't see much from his perspective. so he's not the character i resonate with the most. definitely top three, but not the top. qiao yifan was my best boi then. i can relate with his struggle the most. and i love seeing him learning and growing under ye xiu's wings. from the transparent tiny herb player to the most stable, reliable happy rookie. i'm so looking forward to the person he'll be in the future.
then there's fang rui. he's overshadowed by huang shaotian at first. huang shaotian is so lively, so distinctive, so difficult to look away from. so at the beginning my top three was qiao yifan, ye xiu and huang shaotian.
only on my reread that fang rui finally caught my eye. at first, he and huang shaotian look so similar and differ greatly with other oh so serious captains and god-level players in that they are bright and lively, and they are open with their emotions. but i end up thinking twice at the latter. huang shaotian is an open book, fang rui is not.
wait, wait are we reading the same novel?
fang rui feels like an open book, because we have seen his own perspective, we've seen his thoughts and emotions. but whenever we've got outsiders' perspective on him, fang rui is always playful even he performs badly. if anything, he acts out, hams it up, just like when he miscommunicated with mo fan or when he lost so badly that he sat in the corner to reflect. when he's troubled, most often he closes up, just like when lin jingyan approached him when tyranny dropped by or when he was so tired after beating xu boyuan.
meanwhile, huang shaotian can put up a public persona like the celebrity he is, but overall he doesn't really bother to hide how he feels, just like when he didn't want to talk after he lost in the finals and when he questioned yu feng after he went to hundred blossoms (even he got the first turn in beating up liu hao lol). in summary, huang shaotian is the real open book. we can count on him for being honest, and also being loyal. while at the same time, he's such an stealthy assassin and deadly opportunist on stage. it makes him such an appealing character and a favorite among the fandom.
but for me, the complexity and contrast of fang rui really caught my eye. that there's more to him that it meets the eye. which is admittedly my favorite type of character. it shows that he has an exceptional emotional intelligence, he understands emotions, his own and others, and he doesn't shy away from it, more so, he owns it. i have admiration for calm and composed characters, but i admire more those who obviously struggling with his emotions but still retain their calm and composure. and that fits fang rui to the t.
because damn, when we put it into context, fang rui has the hardest time in season 10. ye xiu (and qiao yifan) did have a hard time with their previous team, ye xiu can be also said as the reason for excellent era, his beloved team's demise. but the fans and later qiu fei gave him hope for the team to be reborn, then su mucheng joined him in happy, all he needs is to focus on the championship that he's back in the alliance. fang rui?
he has to leave his beloved team and account, then he transforms to a completely different class with a wholly new account, at the huge risk to himself, then he has to fight his former partner/mentor repeatedly until being the one to end lin jingyan's career. the latter feels dramatic, but considering how fang rui's performance is visibly affected by lin jingyan's decline, i'm not surprised if that's how it feels from his perspective. and yet... he gives himself the hardest time when he performs badly in the finals, for not giving his best for happy. he just wanted to return the trust given to him. even though he was exhausted, he still did his best to assure the team. i just... the moment i put things into perspective, i think fall in love right then and there, and there's no coming back from it.
so my current top three: fang rui, qiao yifan, and ye xiu.
i think there's a pattern right there. all three are happy. all three have transformed. all three have left their teams, not by choice. all have suffered rejections and come up victorious.
thank you for the wonderful ask! i don't mind if you have more questions! i enjoy it very much! i can do the same for you if you wish. just let me know!

Hello, I've been reading your fics for quite sometime now. And they've got me hooked! One thing I've been curious about in this idolverse is the ethnicity of the OCs Kaya and Dilara, especially given their names and surnames. Could you shed some light on it? Excited for the upcoming fic!
Tee hee, I knew this would come up eventually 😌 I've been deliberately vague about this because I didn't want their ethnicity or nationality to overshadow their actual personalities and characters - but I suppose we're two years in now so they're developed enough.
So Kaya is Indian American - her parents immigrated to the US before she was born, so she was born and raised as an American of Indian heritage. Madaan is a reasonably common Indian surname and while Kaya isn't as common, it just fit her character really well for me.
(Since I've also been asked why she has a Korean cousin - Jieun, her aunt, is her father's adopted sister of Korean descent. She would have visited Korea in college to learn about her roots and eventually settled there with her Korean-American husband, and her daughter Jae-lin is Kaya's cousin.)
Dilara is also half-Indian - her mother is of Indian origin and I imagine her biological father was white, who left her mother when he found out she was pregnant. Being half-white and born out of wedlock, she and her mother would've been borderline ostracised in her home country, and they would've moved to London when she was young (six or seven).
In London, her mother would've met Rudy Komyshan, a Ukranian-British businessman who treated Dilara as his own from day one, including funding a large part of her early racing career. Dilara would've taken his last name some time in her mid-teens.
Dilara is a Persian name, not Indian - but I imagine her mother, who is an artist and a bit of a free-spirit, would've absolutely loved that name and given it to her daughter and only family that was truly in her corner her whole life.

I'm ready for Disney to go back to being Disney ANIMATION studios! I'm all for inclucivity, but you can't just do the bare minimum and claim it's good because it features minorities. Or even worse, start remaking every single thing you've already done before, just in a lackluster version. I wish these companies would see that these projects aren't doing well and change directions. Besides, you'd think they'd learn because nearly every live action remake (Disney or not) involves some sort of "scandal" with one of the actors.
Examples:
Ian Ousley (Sokka) aledgedly lying about his race.
liu yifei (Mulan) supporting Hong Kong police causing people to boycott the movie.
Rachel Zegler (Snow White) acting like she couldn’t care less about the role and having an overall entitled attitude, making people dislike it when the film hasn't even been released yet.
The list goes on. I am absolutely tired of seeing the "magic" being sucked out of everything. I feel like I grew up with some pretty good animated movies, but what is there for people nowadays. Elemental? Wish?!?!?!?
And please don't start to mention the countless different "companies/shows" Disney has bought the rights to. Really, I think that's part of their problem. They're trying so hard to keep all these different things afloat that they're all sinking. They are trying to do too many cash grabs at once, and the quality is seriously suffering.
Disney knows, or at least knew, how to make a classic romance. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, I'd say stick to what you know until you can get going.
And another thing, I hear there's supposed to be a Moana 2! Moana isn't even that old. They're not even letting an ample amount of time pass before they start another ploy. Where are the original ideas? Because all we're getting is revisited versions of things they've already done. And isn't common knowledge by now the running joke that the majority of Disney sequels are trash?
Now for the extra controversial option. I'm over the live action race swapping of characters we've already seen. It's one thing if it's a book. Sure, I can get behind that. But it's getting to the point that they're just swapping out anyway white person with a minority girl and calling that diversity. Can we PLEASE have some more diverse main original characters?
Plus, diversity is not having one person of color and calling it a day. Diversity isn't even having a full cast of one minority. In order to be diverse, there actually has to be a group of multiple different types of people. They think they can just throw in one black people, and all of a sudden, they're so with the times.
Then you only ever see 3 different types: black people, Latinx, and Asian (typically only Japanese or Korean). But I just have to say that that is not as diverse as people make it seem. And why is it that these minorities never interact. It's either all one minority or minorities with white people. Absolutely no in between.
Then, to top it off, I want to get back to catchy songs. A good example of this was Encanto. Not only did it focus on a topic besides romance (family bonds), but it also features a minority family in which each member looks like some actual representation. That on top of the fact the music was good, made Encanto popular despite not having much marketing I'm the beginning. You go from songs like "we don't talk about Bruno" and "Surface Pressure" to.... "This is the thanks I get" from wish.
I feel like they need more people who are passionate about what they do. Even if it's not for the whole movie, just certain aspects. Lin Manuel Miranda is known for his music. Great! He's passionate about it that's one of the reasons it was so good. Who exactly wrote the songs for wish? That is the question.
Anyway... that's all I had to say. Just felt like complaining.

Name: Ameréia Ivetre.
Nickname: Eré, Eréia.
Date of Birth: May 22, 1997.
Place of Birth: Jakarta, Indonesia.
Domicile: Jakarta, Indonesia.
Personage: ENFP.
Ameréia Ivetre was given the surname of her father, Ivetre. She is known as Eréia or Eré, most of the time. Her family and close friends have called her Eréia since she was a child, but as she grew up she was given the nickname Eré which means 'E' and 'Ré' by her friends, E and Ré mean both pairs and disguises because Léve is extremely talented in acting.
Because of that, Eréia decided to take further education to study. She learns a lot about movies and things related to acting. While studying, she also took a side job to spend her free time, which was a children's radio announcer every weekend. There was no other reason, simply because she found a way to fill her free time and genuinely liked children.
Eréia is an only child, her father is Abhimanyu Pahlevi and her mother is a Chinese-Indonesian mix named Jia Lin Mirah. They both adore Eréia and wish for their only child not to travel away for her education.

Because of You, the series (2020) - Final Thoughts
PROBLEMS:
In ep 1, Second Uncle literally kidnapped Jun Cheng. That’s how he and Lin Xun met. And then Second Uncle never came back in. Dropped plot.
In several episodes, Jun Cheng mentions only being in Taiwan long enough to get something of his mother’s and then he’ll go back to Korea. We never learn what he came for, and he stays in Taiwain in the end. Dropped plot.
1st couple and 2nd couple both have power imbalances in their relationships and had some unhealthy moments that really squicked me.
I hate the sister.
What, exactly, is Jin Xun’s job at the end? Cooking breakfast???? I also find fault in someone working for their lover in some form of domestic service.
What Are Boundaries? Jun Cheng and Jun Dao have never met her.
I’m still not sure I buy that Jun Cheng and Jin Xun are gonna be a happy, healthy relationship, or that they even really love each other. Jun Cheng panicked thinking they’d slept together and then turned around and told his dad (and Jin Xun’s mom and Jin Xun) he was gonna take care of Jin Xun. It just came about so fast…
GOOD POINTS:
I did have fun, so there’s that.
Jun Ping and Yue Rong's relationship. I didn't get the feeling of a power imbalance. They're just classmates. And they seem to have the most boundaries of the three pairs. And no one claims to own the other or forces the other to do something they don't want.
The fact that Jun Ping started out like ‘fuck you’ and ended being Baby Girl
I did like the random ways they incorporated the fact that Jun Cheng is half-Korean, other than the fact that he spoke Korean 90% of the time.
Explaining this show to my roommate was hilarious. This show is seriously so unhinged. Except for two episodes there in the middle, I laughed at least once per episode.
It has Issues, but it did make me laugh, so…7⭐

A Crash Course on Crashing Cars || Izzy Lamug, FASA's 2023-2024 Co-Culutral
Tumblr media
So. You finally got your driver’s license, huh?
Wait…no??
Nonetheless you’ve come to the right place! I for one am a very qualified driver. See for yourself:
MICHIGAN
DRIVER LICENSE
DOB: 02-16-2004
Isabelle-Leigh Changcoco Lamug
FASA Co-Cultural Chair
Troy, MI
Yup! So official, right?
Let me just say, you don’t actually need a silly license to get behind the wheel. I’ll give you a few pointers and you’ll be fine, trust! But if you don’t believe me, let me tell you about all the cars I (and others) have crashed…
Lesson 1: Driver’s Ed
You didn’t think we would be starting behind the wheel, did you? Everyone was a beginner once, and I definitely wasn’t always a master at crashing cars.
Tumblr media
Friday, August 20, 2021, Senior Year Band Camp!
Contrary to popular belief, I did not invent the car crash. In high school, I was a member of our color guard for three years (shoutout to the girls who somehow find this <3). During my last band camp, the guard was taking a group picture when one of the girls yelled out, “Let’s do a car crash!”
You might be wondering, how does one do a car crash? It’s actually quite straightforward. Whoever is positioned in the front and center of a group photo is your designated driver. They’ll take the wheel by two hands and steer the rest of your group in whatever direction they please. Everyone else must get into character and…well, crash!
Lesson 2: Buckle your seatbelt
Nice! You got your learner’s permit. Now, it’s pretty easy to get ahead of yourself, so make sure you start by adjusting your seat and buckling your seatbelt.
Starting college was a big step for me. I’m from Troy, Michigan, which is actually only an hour drive from Ann Arbor, but moving into the dorms and living away from home felt like getting my license all over again.
While, yes I grew up in a predominantly white city, it didn’t feel like it. I like to refer to my high school as a bubble, as its diverse student population and multitude of cultural organizations felt like some world of its own. The only catch was there was no sort of Filipino club. To make up for it, I found myself dropping by the Korean Club meetings and auditioning for a Bollywood dance team. I sought out solidarity among other minority students, but I never felt like I fully belonged.
I saw joining FASA as my chance to finally find that belonging. By the time Festifall rolled around, I had been stalking FASA’s Instagram for the entire summer. I found their table, grabbed a flyer, and…that was it. No extended conversation, no putting my uniqname down…but no big deal, I was sure I would end up making new friends as one of the later events!
I ended up attending FASA’s Mass Meeting…
And FAM/Lin Reveal…
And FASAPalooza…
And Halo-Halloween…
I thought I was doing everything right.
Tumblr media
Went to Fam/Lin and unknowingly met my future Co-Chairs???
Tumblr media
Got sorted into the best lineage: Bathala!
But even though I was having fun and amazing conversations with people, I felt out of place. The connections didn’t stick outside of events and I wasn’t sure if that was on me or if that was just how things worked…and well, I was definitely feeling discouraged. It was really hard showing up to FASA events without knowing if I’d even have someone to talk to.
Lesson 3: Check your mirrors
After buckling your seatbelt, definitely check your mirrors. You’ll want to be aware of your surroundings. Don’t be nervous, you’re already behind the wheel!
If you’re feeling the same way I did, a bit awkward in conversations and floating around events, I promise you will find your way in this community. It’s never easy being in a new place (especially when you’re waiting for someone to let you into Couzens), but I learned to live in the awkward—to awkwardly embrace feeling uncomfortable.
Uncomfortable Decision #1: Joining two PCN dances—Modern Tinikling and Pagapir.
Tumblr media
Me and my twin at Pagapir 😋🤞
I had never danced tinikling before. I didn’t even know what pagapir meant, but JC, Bryson, and Caitlin created fun and welcoming practice spaces that I always looked forward to coming to. I met one of my closest friends, Miss Angelica Alpas, at pagapir practice!
Uncomfortable Decision #2: Applying for the intern program
Working with board members and my intern class helped me feel more comfortable in my awkwardness—maybe not awkward, maybe just finding that acceptance in being myself.
I think about this a lot, but I still remember taking the big group picture at Winter 23 FAM/Lin Reveal and calling out, “Wait, can we do a car crash?”
Tumblr media
FASA’s FIRST Car Crash @ Winter FAM/Lin Reveal
It felt nice, you know, sharing a part of myself with FASA and watching people…enjoy it? Like it? It’s just a silly group picture, I know, but it made me feel really there (or something like that).
Then you KNOW we had to run it back at the Intern Capstone.
Tumblr media
Miss Erin Segui crashing 18 Roses
Then, of course…
Confident Decision #1: Running for Cultural Chair
Lesson 4: Start your engine
Ready to get on the road? We haven’t even gotten to the fun part yet!
The title “Cultural Chair” is a little misleading. You assume whoever holds the position is some kind of expert on Filipino culture—wrong.
What makes the chair so special is that it’s all about learning. While you’re not an expert, you’re someone interested in something (perhaps…you might call this passion!), and that’s all it really takes. It’s not often (or ever) you dedicate a year of your life to studying the lifestyle (language, food, religion, social habits, art, music—the whole shabang) of Filipinos, and the opportunity to learn and share what interests you through events and workshops (entirely of your own design) is really just something special. Maybe you’re already fluent in Tagalog or have a dozen family recipes memorized, but no one knows everything (…surely?). I guarantee you will learn something that you have never heard of before. That alone is pretty amazing.
So where do you start? Apparently in a Discord VC over summer vacation.
Tumblr media
moocow and silverbells67 in vc
Communication is key. Share your ideas. Talk out new and creative ways to show them. I like to think every Cultural Chair is drawn to the position out of a personal passion for something. In my case, I was interested in identity—its formation, factors that influence it, and how it represents us—but again I was (and still am) no expert. My coffee chats with my predecessors helped guide my ideas, but most of all, the long conversations between me and Philip (via Discord of course) are what brought them to their full potential.
Lesson 5: One last thing!
You’re all set! Before you hit the gas, is there anyone you want to bring along?
Dear Philip,
Thank you for being my co-driver.
Tumblr media
Our Buwan ng Wika Picnic!
Unknowingly, you’ve taught me so much. Where I’d approach leadership headstrong, you were always patient. When I took on more than I could handle, you’d lighten my load. If I ever lost sight of my love for our culture, your thoughtful care and insight would never fail to motivate me.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully express my gratitude for you, but just know…I am grateful for you! Our year as Co-Chairs is an experience I will always cherish and I will always consider you as a dear friend. I am so so insanely proud of everything we’ve accomplished together, and I know you will continue to inspire everyone you meet, just like you’ve inspired FASA, our board, and me, duh.
Lesson 6: Crash and burn!
Fake it til you make it! You’re behind the wheel, show them what you are capable of!
Dear FASA,
Thank you for this. My goal as Cultural Chair was to build spaces that embody everything our community has given to me—a place to experiment, grow, and learn who I am in our culture.
PCN was the greatest undertaking of my life thus far. Speaking to our theme, Who Are You?, I hope you all feel a little more comfortable with your answer, but I hope there’s still some uncertainty. Identity is a process. You’re always becoming who you will be, so I think it’s okay not to know.
I don’t think I’ll ever fully know who I am, but I know I’m different from whoever I was before, and I think that’s pretty cool. To that version of me, I promise to keep learning and growing and changing and becoming whoever we will be.
Tumblr media
Thank you for letting me take the wheel <3
To my passengers:
I’m sorry for putting your lives at risk
Angelica: I’ve always wanted a friend like you, and I am happy FASA brought us together. You’ve shown me what it means to be cared for, and I hope you know I care for you very much. Thank you for being my rock in this whole college life thing.
Erin & Nate: meap. Miss Erin, I adore you <3 Nate, you’re alright. I look back fondly on our Tagalog classes together, that lumpia rolling night, and tinikling practices. You guys are my people, and I am grateful to call you my friends.
Estelle, Kate, Caitlin, Emily, & JC: Talk about leading by example. You all inspire me, and thank you for your guidance! My vision is thanks to all of you…seriously. You can’t have those deep conversations about Filipino American identity with just anybody, and I am thankful I got to share them with y’all :))
Eun & Fran: Congratulations adings! Your passions and ideas will come together in unimaginable ways and I can not wait to see you bring them to life. Remember, you are resources to board, but at the same time, board is a resource to both of you. Make the most out of this opportunity <3
Kayla, Fran, Saarim, Marohn, & Ava: Congratulations to FASA’s first PCN Board :00 The conversations Philip and I had with each of you makes me so crazy excited! Thank you for being such lovely and welcoming members of our community, and I know you all will absolutely eat up this PCN AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! lol.
Alyssa: Hi Ate Sa Sa. I hope you enjoy your retirement. Trotter hours are about to go crazy.
Bryson: On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you to be here? (Fall 22 first tinikling practice reference in case you forgot)
Nicole: Maybe the real [REDACTED] was the friends we made along the way.
Andrew: MC hide and seek champion right here
Philip: scroll up
Ate Mizzy: The OG Izzy, thank you for always letting me squish your face 🐢
Gabe: mew meow meow maiw? (where my hug at?)
Eli: It amazes me how you somehow liquify all the bones in your body.
Therese: You’re so beautiful bro.
Sofia: Throwback to when you ate it up as Regina! Or were you Karen? Gretchen??
Kendra: Your voice is so soothing. Also, I DO think you’re really funny.
Ash: What would you do if I murdered your entire family.
Zainab: I just knew it would be a good year on board as soon as I saw you smash that boba at Rice Bowl. My respect for you is so insanely great (for reasons besides that moment, probably)
Taryn: HEYYYYY new cooooooooo ;))
Kayla: que luh. heh.

Here's some more for the end of the year questions: 9, 19, 20, and 22 💖
Tumblr media
happy new year lin! sorry this is so late 💖✨
9. Best month of the year for you?
Probably September! I had a great birthday, had a good work-life balance for a bit there (unlike right now🙄), I learnt some new giffing tricks that I'm super proud of, took some time out to play Baldur's Gate and really enjoyed (and would like some more time to play), and I was still screaming with you about Laws of Attraction and Only Friends (and for half the month dangerous romance was still good)
19. What're you excited about for next year?
As much as I complain about it, I'm really excited about the new work opportunities I'm getting. It's going to be exciting stuff. Plus, I'm hoping to travel more, a few trips I've been looking forward to for a while now.
20. What's something you've learned this year?
How to keep going through rough times. It was a bad year but I made it through to the other end and I'm stronger for it
22. Favourite place you visited this year?
I didn't get to travel too much this year so maybe this korean restaurant my friends and I found located about an hour away from us. We tend to get very loud and obnoxious but they never kicked us out, plus great food. And super cheap. We try to go there together at least once ever 6 months now

I finally understand the meaning of -ㄹ/을 텐데
Basically this grammatical point is expressing what would happen or would have happened. When -ㄹ/을 텐데 is at the end of the second clause, the first clause usually ends with some kind of -면 or -도, stating that IF (or EVEN IF) so and so were true THEN so and so WOULD happen or WOULD HAVE happened.
But according to this post on -ㄹ/을 텐데 (which I have read a million times over the 2 years since I've started learning Korean), there's another grammar point that can express the meaning of “so and so would happen or would have happened,” which is -(았/었)을 것이다 (which is just the future tense but when used in a supposition with -면 or -도, it more so means “would” than “will”).
The difference between the two is that -ㄹ/을 텐데 expresses feelings of regret/annoyance/"oh that's too bad” whereas  -(았/었)을 것이다 doesn’t have an emotional nuance.
That’s all fine and dandy. I’ve known the above for quite some time but for some reason it’s never really clicked until now.
The sentence that finally made me understand
“반대였다면 아마도 지금 우리 사귈 텐데.” “If it were the other way around, maybe we’d be dating right now.”
Just bear with me for a moment while I explain the circumstances behind this sentence. So basically when I’m bored, I like to daydream and play out random little stories in my head. For the past couple of months or so, I’ve been saying all the dialogue in Korean in my head (so at least I’m practicing my Korean right? lol). Basically it’s like watching an imaginary Korean movie.
Anyway, today I was playing out a very kdrama-esque story where these two guys like this one girl (yep the ole love triangle) and the girl ends up dating one of them because after she was stuck in a bad situation that guy offered to take her home first and they ended up hanging out more blah blah. But one day while the 3 of them are hanging out, those 2 get in an argument so the non-boyfriend guy drives her home and finally confesses to her that he’s liked her all this time.
So I imagined that after his confession he said to her:
“반대였다면 아마도 지금 우리 사귈 거야.” “If it were the other way around, maybe we’d be dating right now.
He’s referring to that day where she was stuck in the bad situation. He meant if he were the one to take her home maybe they would have ended up dating instead.
But after I thought up that sentence, I then realized... wait, wouldn’t -ㄹ/을 텐데 work better in that situation because he was regretful, right? He regretted not taking her home that day, and he wants to express those emotions to her.
So I went back and read that post I mentioned earlier yet again, and now it’s finally clicked because I understand what that emotional nuance behind -ㄹ/을 텐데 is now.
The difference between “사귈 거야” and “사귈 텐데” in that sentence is that the first one doesn’t have an emotional nuance. He could just be making a supposition about what may have happened offhandedly like “oh hmm you never know, maybe this would’ve happened instead. Maybe we would be dating now.”
But with -ㄹ/을 텐데, it’s not just “oh maybe this would’ve happened.” It’s more like “maybe this would’ve happened and I regret that it didn’t or that it’s no longer possible.”
Perhaps a better example: 그럴 텐데 by DAY6
If my blathering above doesn’t make any sense then maybe this example is more helpful. 그럴 텐데 by DAY6 is a song I really like and have been listening to for months but I also never really understood it (but then again I’ve never analyzed the lyrics as closely as I have now haha).
I recommend giving it a listen and taking a look at the lyrics.
youtube
The song is basically about regret over breaking up with somebody, so it gives you a good idea of the emotions behind this grammar point.
So let’s look at some of the chorus. These two lines are actually split apart but the lines in the middle aren’t as important for understanding this grammar point:
“돌아간다면, 갈 수 있다면” “If I went back, if I could go back”
“너에게 내 전부를 다 줄 텐데. 그럴 텐데.” “I’d give you my everything. I would.”
The first line is that first clause I was telling you about earlier. It just gives some background info, stating “if so and so were true.” And note that the grammar point -다면 goes really well with -ㄹ/을 텐데 because -다면 means “if” but it has more of a hypothetical nuance than plain -면. Because -ㄹ/을 텐데 is all about what you think would happen but it didn’t or maybe even can’t happen anymore (eliciting regret), the hypotheticalness of -다면 is suitable.
So it’s like saying “If I could go back (hypothetically), I’d give you my everything (and I’m regretful that I can’t do that anymore--that I missed my chance to give you my everything).”
Anyway, I hope that helps someone else who’s been struggling with the elusive -ㄹ/을 텐데. If not, maybe try imagining situations where you could use this grammar point like I did and that might make it click!
그 걸 더 일찍 했다면 더 빨리 이해했을 텐데! (If I had done that earlier, I would have understood it sooner!)
Good luck with your studies :)

6000 Korean Words: #21-40 (Mind Palace Experiment)
In my first post, I mentioned that I’m experimenting with mind palaces for learning Korean vocabulary. I’m using the book Korean Essential Vocabulary 6000 for Foreigners. My goal is to memorize 20 words with a mind palace everyday. I’ll review each one the next day, 1 week after, 1 month after, and 3 months after. Right now, I’m on A Class, which has the 1,087 most frequent Korean words listed alphabetically (many words not included because I already know them well).
Experiment #3
Methodology
I continued using General South building (for the first 5 words), then moved into one of the classrooms:
Tumblr media
I put the words in the mind palace and recited it 2 times. Then the next day (today), I recited it again.
The table of words #21-40 (Link to the spreadsheet here):

Notes:
These are just things that help me remember so I don’t recommend using my mnemonic imagery unless they help you remember too.
A lot of the imagery relies on Korean words I already know (see the words in parentheses in the table).
Why Goofy? Starts with g.
Who’s 민경? One of my roommates when I was in Korea. I use her whenever a word has 경 in it.What I think is the biggest factor:
Results & Discussion
The next day, I remembered 13.5/20 words and meanings (~68%). The words I forgot are #s 22, 23, 33, 36 (2nd syllable only), 37, 39, 40. Why is my recall so poor today? Some factors may be:
Words split between 2 locations (5 in General South, 15 in Classroom)
Only recited twice because I lost interest (in comparison to ~5 times for Experiments #1 & 2)
And what I think is the likely explanation:
Lack of distinguishing stations within the locations.
For my first mind palace, I used my bedroom which had many distinguishing stations to anchor the imagery but here I used the classroom which has some notable places but then the rest are just desks (#8-13, 14-18).
It’s interesting that all except 2 of the ones I forgot were placed on the desks. The other two (#22, 23) were also in indistinguishable locations: the doorways of classrooms in General South.
The problem with this is that I have to rely more on my memory to recall the words because now, on top of having to recall the Korean word, English meaning and mnemonic imagery, I also have to remember the sequence. I know that a desk is next but which desk (and therefore which word)?
I think this is the explanation because even though the results of Experiment #2 was 100% recall (and this location also had indistinguishable features), I did mess up recalling the sequence which shows some evidence that I’m having trouble saying the words in order and remembering which ones come next.
There are no more ㄱ words, so for Experiment #4, I’ll be moving on to ㄴ words. I will be changing the location to one that starts with N and will use one with many distinguishing features to test the above hypothesis.
