LINKTOBER DAY 10: ZELDA
My personal favourite Zelda, I couldn’t just not have her be day 10. While I love all Zelda, Skyward Sword’s Zelda just has something about her that I really love.

Linktober Day 10: Zelda
Zelda in Brat-Mode, more specifically
Modern Day Chauffeur AU
Notes at the bottom, please read!
Lonely Girl - Chapter One
Ocean blue eyes met hers in the rear view mirror.
Zelda squinted. "Just so there's no pretense here, I know exactly why you're really here. You are a spy for my father. I hope you understand that makes you my enemy. There will be no pleasantries between us from now on. Mark my words."
Looking back and forth between the road and the rear view mirror, Link had no reaction. "Enemy, huh? Is it as bad as that?"
"Oh, it is and worse." She crossed her arms and huffed, slumping back in her seat. "I suppose he's told you of his rebellious, ungrateful brat who sneaks off like a typical teenager? You have no idea what's actually going on, so tell him my every move, collect your paychecks, but don't you dare think your job is noble."
Link had the nerve to grin. "Uh, I don't think you know why people have jobs. I'm not trying to be a hero here."
"I know you're doing it for the money, of course. I'm just saying there's no reason to feel good about it. My father is out of his mind, spying on his own daughter. There's nothing to spy anyway. You won't have anything to report."
"If that's true, why are you so upset about having a driver?"
"Because you're meant to be a spy!" She cleared her throat, embarrassed to shout at this stranger. "His suspicions are hurtful and unfounded."
"So you weren't secretly taking evening classes at the community college?" He sounded so nonchalant.
Zelda's mouth fell agape and childlike shame rushed through her veins. "H-How dare you?"
He shrugged. "Sorry, you're right. I run my mouth, Miss. I'll try to nip that."
"You do that," she said in amazement.
He really was brainwashed by her father. To speak to her so bluntly, with no respect, his only job was as her prison-warden, and he obviously meant to play that role to perfection.
Day two was uglier.
Zelda rushed past Link before he had the chance to open her door. She got in and slammed it shut.
She watched through the tinted window, hungry for a reaction.
He didn't even pause, didn't jump-scare at the loud slam of the door; he turned and walked to the driver's side as if he had shut the door himself. He got in the car, looking utterly pleasant.
Oh, Zelda was seething. "So, you're back for another day as a watchdog, I see."
"You don't need to be surprised to see me from now on, just so you know. I'm very dependable, Miss."
She could've spit. "With your obviously low standards and willingness to do dirty work, couldn't you have any old job? Why choose to be a professional stalker? Unless you're sick."
He feigned ignorance at her meaning. "I'm not sick. And this is an excellent job, much better than anything else I might find. It's not easy finding work." There he went again, looking at her through the rearview. It gave her the creeps. He should be keeping his eyes on the road anyway. He was going at the very top of the speed limit. If Father knew of this recklessness would he even care?
"Is it so difficult to find work?"
He smiled. "It was."
"Why? Are you a felon?"
Finally, she got a reaction, even if it was far from the one she wanted.
"Hah!" His eyes lit up in amusement. "No, Miss. Your father didn't hire a felon to drive you to school. Your relationship must be worse than I thought."
"If not a felon, what? Some small-time criminal record? Did your weed get confiscated?"
"Good Lord," he grinned, shaking his head in amusement. "I'll tell you just to stop your guessing. I didn't get to finish High School. It's almost impossible to get a job without a diploma."
"Ah. That does make it hard to get rid of you. You'll prefer this to being a pizza boy or a sign spinner, I suppose."
"Yes. Sorry, Miss."
She rolled her eyes and turned her attention to her phone, scrolling through pictures of people she barely knew who'd only asked for her socials to say they had a senator's daughter for a "friend". "May I remind you that your job is pointless? He may be frustrated with me but it is an obvious waste to make sure I go to school. I have a perfect attendance trophy sitting on my desk."
"That is weird. I wonder why he'd go so out of the way in this specific aspect if you never miss school."
"Don't you dare speculate with me as if you're on my side. This has nothing to do with you and if you knew what sort of man he was, you would not wonder about his erratic behavior. He hates me and wants to punish me. You are the punishment. Is your curiosity satisfied?"
"I apologize."
"You can let me out here." They were a block away from her school and she didn't feel she could stand to be in this tiny box with him another second. His presence was stifling.
"I can't do that."
Zelda nearly broke a sweat at the extra thirty seconds it took for him to halt at the entrance. Again, she refused to give him a chance to play "Gentleman Chauffer" as if this was some luxury. She opened the door, got out, slammed it, and marched away without looking back.
Notes:
This is actually a scene from the novel, Lonely Girl, I'm writing!
I'm about 65k words in and I'd say about 3/4s of the way done. It's the biggest project I've ever tackled and the furthest I've written. I'm so excited to one day share the finished project, but for now, a little preview 😁

LINKTOBER TIME: OVERGROWN
OK, I decided to write a semi literary story of Link’s first encounter a Molduga. Here’s an excerpt of the story:
“Link didn’t believe in Moldugas until one brought him to the sky.
He remembered the rumors as he stepped out into the desert. Gerudos whispered many secrets to each other in and out of their city. Some of the amazons believed they weren’t heard, but Link picked up on their discussions. As a knight and personal body guard to Princess Zelda, he had to. Every sound in Hyrule mattered, even when asinine in nature.
Moldugas are overgrown behemoths who burrow beneath the ground. Remember this; they move swiftly like lightning. The world trembles when they’re nearby. By the time you see one, you’re in great peril. If you suddenly fly towards the sky, it’s too late. You’re already gone. No one can save you at that point…”
I will always sneak in the “Word of the Day” for Linktober to stay congruent with the month’s challenge. Looking forward to all the ideas I can come up with using what’s now a writing prompt for me. This is fun, I like this a lot!

Her Voice in Far-off Water
A totk fic for Linktober 2023 Day 10 Prompt: Zelda. 800 words. Bittersweet.
Link didn’t slide down the well-ladder this time.
The last time he had, Zelda’d scolded him.
“I come here to concentrate, Link.  As precious as you are to me, it’s difficult to do so when you’re about.”
“I’m about anyway!”
“Yes, but I cannot interact with you while alone belowground.”
He made a lopsided grimace, fists on his hips.  “Here I was thinking you needed time away from high pitched little-kid voices.”
“That, too.”
“You know they don’t leave when you disappear, right?  They climb on me and catch frogs in the pond instead.”
“Yes,” she said with a millimeter of smirk.
“Maybe I should have Bolson dig me a man-cave.”
“Perhaps you should!”
“We could both disappear at the same time.”
“Indeed!”
“Mine wouldn’t be as nice.”
“It might be if we locate a suitable location with respect to the water-table.”
“What would I do in there?”
“That is entirely your business,” she said with growing laughter.
“What?”
“Perhaps you could practice remaining still.”
“I can stay still!”
“Link, you cannot even crouch for a few minutes without fidgeting.”
“I can if I need to.  It’s just uncomfortable.”
“What about standing without rolling your shoulders or flexing your muscles?”  She poked his bicep. Then she wiggled her finger.
“PFF-“ he caught her hand and pulled her in at the waist. “I can do it if I need to.”
“Hmm.  Hmhmhm.”
He tickled her ribs.
“AAH!”
He heard her laugh echo in the soft, unbroken whoosh of some far-off, subterranean brook, carried through the surface of the clear well-water.
His lower lip curved up—just for a moment.
His boots scuffed their way to her desk.  She’d left her journal open, a frog-shaped paperweight on one corner.
“Go on.  Taste it!”
He shook his head.  The top pages felt the tiniest bit warped from moisture.  He moved to close it, not at all expecting the words he caught; he couldn’t help but read them.  She’d hidden a gift for him in the castle’s ruined throne-room.  She’d meant to take him… after they studied the gloom.
She’d probably have said she meant to find places to display the champions’ weapons—places of honor for them.  He’d have gone along with that.  The constant reminder had been too much in their home, but it didn’t feel right to ignore them, either.
He shut the book and his eyes at the same time, overcome with an exhaustion he had no name for.  He dropped into the wooden chair and rested his arms on the desk, crossed—then his head on those.
He stayed a long time.
The circle of sunlight had strayed from the well’s floor to a crescent of gold just below the entrance’s rim when he roused.  Laughter and a splash issued from somewhere above him.
Catching frogs.
He stretched his sore neck and back with a deep breath, eyeing the drawings she’d pinned to the right.  He had a huffed laugh in him somehow.
Aster’d included Zelda’s clips, bright blue like his hairband.
He missed his hairband.
He shook his head, scrubbed his face, stood and resolved to sleep in a less awkward position that night.  As he turned to go, he caught sight of her storage chest.
He really shouldn’t leave her journal out.  She shouldn’t have either, but small things slipped sometimes with so much on her mind.
He picked the book up and flipped the chest open-
-and there it was, right on top: his hairband.  The old one.
He swapped it for the book without a glimmer of thought.
It had faded to a blue-gray.  It didn’t complement his eyes, and it would no longer match his champion’s tunic or Zelda’s clips.
He put it on anyway, just like he used to.
“You do this on purpose,” she’d said.
“What?”
“Your messy bangs and long locks to frame your face.”
“Locks?” he said, each of his laughs heightening in pitch.
“Yes!”
“No one says locks anymore, Princess.”
“You’ve deflected.”
“Nah.”
“You could easily pull all your hair back.  It’s long enough.”
“Eh.”
“Doesn’t it get in your way during battle?”
“Nope.”
“May I see it the other way?”
Link shrugged.  “Sure.”
She styled it for him, smoothing his hair as he kept his breathing slow and even.
“You look handsome.”
“Thanks.  Do you… like it this way better?”
She considered him, her hand beneath her chin, her index finger pushing at her upper lip.  “Hmm.” Her head listed sideways.  “I think I prefer your usual style.”
He snorted and took the band out.
“Only because it looks more like you,” she said softly.
“I’m me no matter what my hair looks like.”
“Of course—though you act in a considerably different fashion with your hair entirely down.”
“That’s because of what we’re doing when you take it out.”
“I know,” she said, her eyes twinkling.
He shut the chest with a quiet tap and rose from crouching.  He hadn’t fidgeted at all.
He left with a promise to return the memento with her.
With Zelda.

Linktober 2023 - Day 10. "Zelda"
Tumblr media
You're still seeing your past in every reflection. How can you hope to move on ?
Twitter post | Zelda thinks she's handling things quite well following her return to her home and to normalcy. She's finally home and she's a Hylian again. Why wouldn't everything be fine? It's just that... she's picked up a habit of avoiding mirrors -- reflections as a whole, honestly. If she does look, it isn't for long. She tells herself that it will pass.

Catching up on lazy Linktober sketches!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's days 7-12, excluding 8 because I had zero ideas. :) Explanations for each down below! (Please ignore I accidentally put the wrong tag on these I am not going back to fix that ;v;)
Tumblr media
Day 7 was Sky, and while I had plenty of SS/ToTK related ideas I knew everyone would be doing that. The best I could come up with was an illustration of Aspen (The Mage's Lantern) commanding a storm.
Day 9 was Deity, so I very sloppily sketched an incarnation of Zelda I haven't quite shown off yet (her fic will be titled Era of Malice, and boy is it a dark one).
Day 10 was Zelda.
Day 11 was Monster/Beast, so I drew the first boss I have planned for Stone Fate: The Twin Fleshroots.
Day 12 was Princess, so I chose Princess Aphina Zora (who will be the Water Sage for Stone Fate)!
Do NOT repost!
