I bet sometimes it hits Sanson that if Guydelot had been just a bit more well-behaved in his original unit, he almost certainly wouldn't have been assigned to assist Sanson on the search for the Ballad of Oblivion. The whole mission was expected to fail; the Gods' Quiver wasn't going to send someone they knew to be competent and useful - they sent Guydelot, who was just competent enough. A skilled archer, a talented novice bard... but an absolute pain to work with, and a rigged coin toss as to whether he'd obey any given order or not.

To say nothing of how little the Quiver seems to think of bards in general.

I think the Adders expected Sanson to come home frustrated and exhausted, tail between his legs, ready to put this dream behind him. At best, maybe Guydelot would've learned something from the experience. Or maybe he'd've just gotten lost in the wilderness somewhere and good riddance.

Basically I bet Sanson thanks his lucky stars that Guydelot was in that sweet spot of "skilled but useless," so he could be sent along to hopefully sabotage things - because if the Quiver knew what they were actually giving Sanson, they never would've sent Guydelot at all.
