okay so I haven't seen anyone actually talk about this and it's kind of driving me insane . in the ep 4 claudia bday scene louis Clearly has some blood on his lips, you don't clearly see it but its there

Now he might have feasted on some festive birthday rat or whatever but . the number of bodies on the couch also matches; im pretty sure we have yet another instance of Louis not being as infaillible in his self-imposed moral code than what he wants us to believe.

Louis told us that he stopped drinking human blood in ep 3 and started drinking it again in ep 6 (from 17 to 37 so roughly 20 years?), coincidently at a moment where Daniel's awareness and senses were dulled out by the medicine, but thats a whole other post tbh, the point is that Louis glossed over that crucial change in a few seconds and Daniel didnt pick up on it.

And as many people have already pointed out in much better ways, his eating habits directly seem to correlate to his mental state and his persistent guilt, so it would make sense he was more enclined to indulge in that small time frame where things were good and he felt somewhat alleviated of that guilt, but either way I think it's interesting that his resolve wasn't as clear-cut as he made it out to be, explicitely or not, and that - once again - we know it per Claudia's narration.

Maybe it was just an exception, maybe Louis only allowed himself the excess on special occasions like here with Claudia's birthday, maybe he only caved that one time and it never happened again but the point is that he Did. And telling so would once again go against the careful tapestry of unwavering restraint and control that he has been trying to weave this whole season.

aah, I wish Jacob had been allowed to talk more about 'truth and falsehood' on the show. I know he was never gonna give specific spoilers, but it seems some fans are still in denial about Louis being an unreliable narrator at all. The fact that these kinds of discussions were happening behind the scenes suggests the cast knew from day 1 that something about season 1's narrative was false or misleading, they just didn't know exactly what.

I mean, it kinda feels like some kind of "gag order" has dropped away, because Jacob (and Sam) have been very blunt about that (and the Loustat relationship) in the last few interviews, but actually the fact that they all were discussing (and therefore knowing) what was true, and not is, actually, nothing new:

"Whenever I talked about something that Louis had said or that was in the script, because this show is Louis’ recollection of events, Sam would just be like, “Lie. Lie. That’s a lie. Did that happen? Is it real? Didn’t happen that way.” Very unhelpful for my preparation. [Laughs] I got really icy about it a few times. “I don’t want hear this. I have to believe something is true.” It’s nice be able to believe what you’re saying."

So the fact that he is, in fact, an unreliable narrator (or misremembers) and the reason why he changes some things stands in the room with him...

Like, if you watched the first season, and heard Daniel calling bullshit again and again, and saw him literally destroy the narrative of the last part and did not get any of the hints that are strewn throughout the show... then you simply haven't been paying attention.

And I know, there's so many layers. So many other - important! - stuff to focus on. Racial conflicts, patriarchy, power dynamics, cheating. The list goes on. But ultimately... this will be their - Lestat's and Louis' - love story, and this has been re-iterated in these last interviews, as well as that they're following the books, and... well.

POV changes, revisits and changes of perspective (and being called out for lying, too) are part of the books.

It's just that some fans don't want to apply this to Louis, for representative reasons I believe.

But... as Jacob put it so nicely in one of the last interviews:

"Something that can get misunderstood about representation is that all representation has to be good representation. It's important actually that we don't show a queer couple as a monolith or a Black character as a monolithic thing. I love that the show is willing to explore the multitudes of that relationship."

A lot of fans don't want to see the "bad" in Louis, or Claudia for that matter (and I use "bad" here very loosely, because there are no "bad", or, for that matter, "good" vampires in the chronicles). The hate I've gotten for pointing out weaknesses or simply flaws in the narrative, or when their behavior didn't make sense to me - or when I interpreted it differently in the light of later books... was off the charts at times. And I fear a lot of people will have a very hard time with the shifts that will come in soon.

But... they've been hinting at that since the beginning. And yes, they've obviously known, too. (And I would argue they would have needed to know which scenes would be revisited - and, honestly, Jacob's comment above does hint at that, imho.)

IWTV Ep6 - Rewind the Tape

"After Louis tells Claudia that Lestat wants him to know he's still cheating, Claudia compares Lestat to her rapist, with the show literally putting Bruce's image over his. Immediately after, Louis' narration tells us he'd become numb and dissociated, "a vessel of acceptance." What do you think Claudia, Louis, and the show itself are suggesting about consent in this new domestic arrangement?"

A lot of the fandom H A T E S that Claudia was raped (even more than the Loustat fight), and they especially hate what Rolin Jones said about it toughening her up. But despite its inclusion/execution/explanation, I DO see where RJ was going with it all; as I've also mentioned how Claudia & Louis were deliberately put on the same level, as were Lestat and Bruce.

We know Carol Cutshall designed Lestat's matador costume for the "villain sequence" in Ep5 to emphasize his patriarchal hegemony over "the housewife and the mistake." Matador in Spanish literally means "killer." Through the matador costume, AMC brilliantly tied the Wolfkiller Lestat with Bruce the Killer.

We also have a hard time w/ instances of physical/sexual violence by Les against Lou--I saw a spicy post just the other day about whether or not the Disassociating scene was Les raping Lou or not.

I think in Lou's mind, sex with Les while he was disassociating wasn't rape. Louis himself pointed out that Lestat's affair with Antoinette was all tangled up in Lou's lack of libido due to his diet; and his later depression, ignoring Les' "considerable considerables." He WANTS Lestat ("I wanted him dead, I wanted him all to myself"), and when he comes back online he IS into it, cuz he loves the stupid man. I think he DOES consent, and TRIES to stay present--but "there were THREE of you" in that bed, and in that relationship.

I think in Claudia's mind, Lestat really was raping Louis. I think SHE had put Lestat & Bruce on the same level, convinced that Les felt the same way about Lou that Bruce did about her--and that Lou felt the same way about Les that she did--not understanding Loustat at all.

Claudia trips people up a lot wrt arrested development & stunted growth--she's either a little girl or a SUPER old woman or both or neither. How much can she REALLY know, process & experience?

Cuz in some ways, AMC!Lestat (& book!Louis) kinda did rape Claudia. Aside from the more sexual meaning, one can take "rape" in the original Latin sense (rapio/rapere: "to snatch, grab, carry off, abduct, rape, steal"); or we can take it in the vampiric sense, turning Claudia without her consent, and force/violence done to one's fledglings. Les is a bad Maker to Louis, but GODAWFUL to Claudia.

Lestat even puts himself above & beyond Bruce, saying he can and WILL do far worse than "defiling her pocket;" he'll KILL her.

Lestat snatched away Claudia's consent, & snatched her from the train crying & sobbing. He violated her autonomy just like he'd violated her privacy by reading her diary when Louis told him not to.

And what's sad is that because Claudia's a sadist like her father, she was initially charmed by Bruce & how he killed; just like she was charmed by Lestat's "extravagant" killing style. "He had a way about him." AMC!Claudia's the one who gives Bruce his epithet, but in the books his his name's just Killer (IIRC he's never given a real name).

But we soon see the gradual jadedness in Claudia. Her killing loses the bubbly giggling glee from her early years, as she becomes cold & far more calculating/methodical. Plus, she realizes that the men in her life that she initially THOUGHT were great heroes & "knights" & "angels" that had saved her, were really just HELL DEMONS. Lestat's not a cheeky "Brat" anymore, he's the frikkin Devil. The "darkness in her that wasn't there before" Lestat talks about is just REALITY; the dawning realization that Lestat, Louis, Bruce, NONE of these men were good to her. All good things died with Charlie.

She's desperate to go to Europe, cuz she's holding onto hope like a lifeline, that not all vampires are as bad as Bruce & Lestat. Unfortunately, Lestat was right when he said they're actually vicious and "far worse" in Europe. 😬

DJSJDH YEAH. YEAH THAT'S EXACTLY HOW IWTV MAKES ME FEEL. I watched it when it first came out and despite rarely rewatching anything ever, I immediately jumped at the chance to watch it again when it started airing on BBC2 a couple months back. god it’s even crazier the second time around i was sitting there wondering why everyone and their mum wasn't talking about this show at all times of the day. Every element of it is firing on all cylinders and they should’ve thrown every emmy in existence at jacob anderson.

i was talking about this with a friend last year but like. It’s not that i think queerbait > canon gay is a universally awful take; a lot of the time i think it’s true. The plausible deniability that queerbait provides means the rest of the narrative can be as messy and complex as it likes. It’s just that if the universe gives you a show about a gay black vampire and his melodramatic cheating french life partner as well as his biracial daughtersister who violently hates her white stepdadbrotherinlaw and you still haven’t watched it 18 months after its release… do you even want canon queerness? 🤔 SLASH HALF-JOKING but like. Come on. Put some effort into engaging with the narratives you claim to want to see!

first of all. need i remind you that the reason fans don't care about niall's private life is because he makes sure it's private he shuts people down when they're talking shit about him and his girlfriend and he makes sure that the promo focus is on his music. honestly given how most of the gp literally only remembers either slow hands or this town (rip hbw you deserved more), to be able to get heaven going the way he is, is pretty incredible and all because he made use of his platform on his socials and he got his industry friends doing quirky little bits for it. as for zayn, like it or not, he still is one of the most popular artists and despite harry becoming a trendy household name, zayn still holds a significant amount of popularity control. and while the media made it all about his personal relationships be it with perrie, gigi or 1d, HE never made it about that. yes gigi did a lot during nobody is listening promo, but did zayn ever publicly make it about that? no. my mans just slept for 8 hours on ig live made us watch and then ate pizza while listening to his album.

the reason why niall and zayn's private lives go unnoticed by fans is because they don't put it in your face the way harry/louis' public lives tend to be. tell me why louis went on a world tour last year with double the venues than originally planned, released an album, launched a festival, announced a documentary, announced a second tour and still what's getting picked up is that he was spotted with a blonde? tell me why harry went on a world tour, did three movies, released an album, won a shit ton of accolades, is still on tour and yet holivia became the big debacle that it did? yeah because instead of focusing on their music, their actual career, their teams love to cater to gossip and rumours and their public personas

Replaying Nancy Drew without cheating - Part Four: The Final Scene

AND HERE IT IS....

Is The Final Scene the MOST brilliant game in the entire Nancy Drew series??

Hear me out. It has literally everything you could ever want out of a Nancy Drew game. Danger. Mystery. A ticking clock. A lack of pointless chores. An intriguing backstory. An amazing soundtrack. An extremely sassy Nancy. A caked up Nicholas Falcone.

I think the ONLY thing that is missing from this game, honestly, is length. I think it is well-known in the community that this game is too short, especially on replay, but I recently learned that this was the first game that HerInteractive put out on a 2-a-year schedule, so the development was rushed. After TRT, the company almost could not afford to continue making games, so they had to switch strategies. Technically, FIN saved the franchise. In that context, the only disappointment is that they didn’t have more time to work on this absolute MASTERPIECE.

I also think my love for this game has grown after reading the book that it’s based on. Queen Simone Mueller was adapted from a boring male Simon Mueller, the talented Louisa Falcone was adapted froma boring male Louis Falcone. The Harry Houdini storyline was completely new in the game. Brady Armstrong having a vested interest in the theater demolition was also new in the game and made him a much more interesting and sinister character. I know that this book was written in the 80s, but Bess’s one-dimensionality (obsessed with food and boys) annoys me; much happier to see Vietnamese-American college student as the kidnapee instead.

Not cheating in this game was super easy for me. It’s another game I’ve played a dozen times, so even if I didn’t remember the exact sequence of events, I quickly was able to move the game along. I finished in under 3 hours, and that is with being consistently distracted by the NFL game my fiance had on in the background. Having three distinct days makes this game very sequential and hard to get stuck.

Some random thoughts I had during this replay:

1. Someone put this soundtrack on vinyl, PLEASE. I would literally murder someone to play this in the background while reading a book and smoking a joint on my couch.

2. Even as a child, I loved Nicholas Falcone. There is just something about a man with a passion. Nothing used to turn me on (still does turn me on) than Nicholas’s intellectual negging of a dim-witted Brady Charmstrong during the press conference. This was also the first time I really took the time to listen to the entire press conference from the ticket booth...pure gold.

3. Speaking of the ticket booth, taking to Sargeant Ramsay on the phone is absolutely hilarious. Who is this voice actor? Someone find him and give him more gigs. And Eustacia Andropov? An incredible character and a treat of a phone call as well. WHO WROTE THIS SCRIPT?? I think this is probably the funniest game there is.

4. Let’s just go ahead and go through some of the best quotes of the game.  “I may have to cut this short, Hal. Someone just climbed out of my wardrobe.” (entirely unphased) “I think your phone’s about to ring.” “Take a breath and pinch yourself, because it’s reeeally happening: Brady Armstrong, in the flesh. Star of Vanishing Destiny? Go ahead, faint. I’ll catch you.” “Why don’t you tell that little grey troll that I think he did it just to keep himself from dying of boredom in this old dump. THAT’s my comment.” “Fight the power.” (a classic) "Mr. Charmstrong, do you find that your fans respond to you more in your chicken suit or curly wig?" “Maybe you’d better think about being ‘in on the law’ and ‘down with the truth’ Nicholas.” “More? I’m 96 over here. I don’t exactly have time to burn.” “You tell that Sherman Trout Eustacia said, ‘You’re not dead yet, Shermie, so get up and make yourself useful.’” “Armstrong: Uh, do we still like him or what?”

5. Joseph always scared the hell out of me. Even to this day. He is creepy and he IS a little grey troll. Why is he constantly trying to get me to leave the theater and go to bed in the middle of the day? Why is he lying about his brother Jake? Why is he always popping up in the most chilling way possible? I hate him. I suspected him from the very beginning.

6. When Nancy says that Maya never goes ANYWHERE without her press pass...ma’am you are an undergrad student at Washington University. Please calm down.

7. Not sure if anyone remembers, but back in the day on the HerInteractive message boards people used to put all the games they had finished in their signature for all their posts. Some would just put a list of all the games, but others would get creative (including me, although it wasn’t creativity on my part as much as it was copying other people). Their signature would say things like “I have Stayed Tuned for Danger,” or “I have discovered The Secret of the Scarlet Hand.” FIN’s was “I have seen The Final Scene” and I still to this day say this whenever I talk about this game with anyone. Throwback.

8. I never would have figured out the gum on wand bit if not for the message boards back in the day, and my memory of it now.

9. This is a game that is more about the mystery and less about the puzzles. I loved this one, even though this is probably the hardest part of the entire game (besides the gum on wand thing).

10. The ending is SO intense. Because I know exactly what to do, it is less so, but the whole thing still gives me goosebumps. That timer in the corner quickly ticking down? Hiding in the closet when the police do their final sweep? Joseph being an absolute psychopath? The focus knob breaking off? The KEYS? MAYA BEHIND GLASS?? TRYING TO BREAK THE GLASS WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER? JOSEPH BEING A PSYCHOPATH AGAIN?? (I can let it slide that defeating the culprit involves flashing them with a cheap prize from an ancient game in a decaying basement. It’s still so good).

11. Also, I have a print of this in my house right now because of this game. I don’t even know the artist, but I love it.

So thankful to rediscover my love for this game. Can it top Treasure in a Royal Tower and Dexter’s sexy, raspy voice? Maybe not. But it is up there.

Thomas was the most grieving from his siblimgs about his mothers death.After weeks later he got invited to his Cousins birthday.He bought a present and came.In the night he left and walked back home.His younger brother Jack then visited him by surprise.Thomas didn't liked his brother as he knew he bullies Gabriel and did other bad things.He knew Jack killed an child(Laura).Jack was allowed in still and made Thomas a drink but it was poisoned and Thomas died and now possesses Lucas the orange.Charlotte heard of his brothers death and knew who to blame.She knew that Jack would kill him.Charlotte tried to tell the police that Jack killed Thomas but it was no luck as no evidence was found.Charlotte was frustrated of course.After some weeks she died due to being hit by a lightning in a thunder storm and possesses Maria the ladybug now.

Jack was just a little psycho who literally killed a child,his own brother and his victim in bullying.He bullies Gabriel a lot and even killed him by setting his house on fire.And he got away with it as he hid and got rid of the evidence.But he died through a gunshot in his chest.He now possesses Finn the fox.

Lestrat's Red Flags

I'm binging Interview with a Vampire and I'm just listing shit things about Lestat, from episode 1 on.

*Spoiler heavy

Using Lilly as a bargaining chip to ultimately get Louis to have sex with him

Killing her to isolate/punish Louis for avoiding him afterward

(I gotta be honest, part of me wonders if Lestat made his brother jump to his death but he has plenty of confirmed red flags so I don't even need to add that. )

Approaching Louis who had literally done nothing but avoid him at his brother's funeral and making the comment "Believe me, your brother longed for that flagpole"

Killed priests where Louis had gone to confess about his sins and his involvement with them (aside from the murder, Louis was in a fragile state and did not need to be handled like that)

(I'm not convinced that he didn't put up more of a fight from Louis trying to see his family during the day because he figured it'd be better for him in the long run if Louis learned trial by error (with all the vulnerable, malleable emotions that came with. Allow someone to be hurt then you get to soothe it and they thank you for it).

His general unwillingness to process life altering events with Louis-Ep 2: Louis nearing got disintegrated trying to see he family and comes back Lestat's house. Lestat explains the things about the sun but then calmly starts preparing for bed, trying to convince Louie to join him in the coffin. Louis himself remarks "He rushed me headlong through the encounter as if it were something to get behind us." Louis lists the murder, the turning, the near disintegration.

Continuation of one above: Ep 2: Louis nearly eats his nephew, Lestat tells him to stop seeing his family and proceeds to try to convince him to go to an opera. Louis pushes back a bit before he gets caught up in the romance, exasperatedly repeating "I almost ate my nephew, Lestat"

The opera he takes him to requires Louis to pose as a valet to avoid racially driven conflict. My personal theory is that this was to enhance Louis's sense of isolation from the world around him (as he is already beginning to feel isolated from his family). Louis kinda backs this up in the interview, saying, "Lestat had this way about him, so that as i sat there, trying to practice restraint, stewing in my indignation, Lestat seized it as opportunity to disarm me." Lestat starts talking about his fear of loneliness and asks Louis to stay with him (You cause/worsen the feeling then you soothe it)

Calling back to the unbalanced dynamic. Louis states "In the quiet dark, we were equals." Daniel pushes back on that shit so fast.

Lestat using a sexual relationship with a woman to punish Louis for his eating habits. (Lestat's reaction when Louis asked if he could also fuck whoever he wanted tells us that it didn't matter who Louie fucked (despite Lestat later claiming his issue was the fact that Louis had history with the person he chose).

Lestat laughing at Louis's desperate, vulnerable "Am I not enough?" after he flirted/cheated on him in front of him

Inviting people into their saloon and saying "You can fuck them and I can eat them", potentially putting their secret (coffins) at risk, and in the heat of the moment handing Louie papers that stated his business was shutting down (stacking trauma on trauma, throwing fits and punishing him even when he set the terms).

Lestat using the backlash from the death of the councilman to get Louis to say that he enjoys killing. Louis states "Maybe you saw it coming and didn't stop me. Maybe you went quiet on purpose." Lestat doesn't deny this, only tells Louie that Louie killed the guy because he enjoyed it (rather than for his people as Louie had been proclaiming). He then goes on (once again not caring about Louie's distress) to state that they should make that day their anniversary.

Emotional neglect ≠ Okay to Cheat

Oh I don't know where the post is, but at this point, I'm starting to think it would be a great thing for humanity if we all segregated. The Lestat Excuse Makers and the Louis Sure As Hell Deserves Better. And this is like Loustat. But I can't stand by with this.

I can't remember the post, because I don't save that shit, but I follow the tag and I literally read some of yall trying to act like Lestat being "emotionally neglected" made him seek a relationship with Antionette. That Mf was cheating before Claudia left people. Claudia is the one who told Louis. Louis and him went underground when Claudia left. Because Louis is worried about someone they both made who isn't happy, that means that he should be at fault for Lestat Cheating!? Lestat didn't cheat out of emotional neglect. This is from someone who has been raised on emotional neglect by narcissistic people. I didn't cheat. I hate cheating. Oh, but my dad did. Not from emotional neglect. Figured that out from my therapist. Because at the end of the day, you still choose to cheat. It is a choice.

I hate the trigger warning, cancel culture, and whatever Gen Z comes up with bs(I'm a Xillennial. So between Z and Millennials.) I don't like sharing shit bc it's personal. It was a hot Friday evening, I was watching Gilmore girls with my sister. If you don't know what that is then what are you doing, it's literally one of the best shows on the planet. Anyway I was swooning over Jess when I suddenly heard my phone buzz, I picked it up and saw a notification from Millie.

Emilia partridge, my best friend and my boyfriends sister. Yes, I am dating the famous Louis partridge. Some people think it's weird because I'm 3 years younger than him but it really doesn't matter to us. I've known him for as long as I can remember. We've been family friends since before we were born and neighbors for even longer. It was an absolute dream living like this. Imagine your best friend and boyfriend living right next to you and you can visit them any time you want cause they are basically your second family. Even though I loved going there with permission, sneaking in from my window to millies window is a different kind of rush. We had these ledges extending our windows, we got so used to jumping from one to other that we couldn't get hurt even if we tried. Anyway back to the text. Since today was one of our last days of summer vacation, one of our really good friends was having a party before school started. Millie had been bugging me all day to go to the party but I just wanted to surprise Louis and stay with him the rest of the day. I wanted to give her company. It's not that I don't like hanging out with Millie and my friends but I just don't like parties, I would rather stay in and watch a movie or read or just laze around. I decided to text Millie back so I went to my room and opened the texts to reply.

I'm so glad she understood. Well I was gonna spend some time with her and after that with Louis so I got dressed. I wore my black mom jeans with one of my oversized t-shirts.

You might be wondering why I dressed up a little to meet them, but in all honesty I wear these kinds of clothes everyday. I literally sleep in my jeans sometimes that's how comfortable I am in them. I don't dress to impress anyone, just myself. Anyway I was getting late so I just jumped to millies window without thinking, I know she never locks it and I don't either and I know you might think it's not safe but no one knows, not even our families.

I entered and saw Millie arguing with Louis in the hallway. It was only Millie screaming at him. I made my way from millies bedroom to where louis and Millie were standing. As soon as I saw Millie I could tell that she had been crying for a few minutes and louis was just standing there with a terrified but guilty look, looking straight into my eyes. Millie ran to me and gave me a hug, louis started approaching me and a tear rolled down his cheek. But as soon as he took a step Millie stopped him and said 'don't even try to come near her!'. I looked at Louis with a worried face while Millie pulled me into her room and locked the door. She sat on the bed and I went over to her and hugged her and asked 'why were you yelling at Louis?'.

She was crying so much I couldn't understand what she was saying. 'It's okay, everything is fine. Calm down' I said trying to stop her from crying. 'Lou-Louis k-' she said but couldn't finish. 'Louis what?' I asked feeling worried. 'Louis K-kiss-kissed another g-girl' she stammered. I felt my knees get weak and I fell down on the floor and broke down crying. Millie calmed down a little bit and pulled me up so I could sit on the bed. I heard pounding on the door and Millie screamed go away while I was still in her embrace crying. 'I need to talk to her!' The boy who broke my heart yelled through the door, still pounding on it. After a few minutes of crying I told Millie that I wanted to go home. She offered to stay with me but I convinced her to go to the party. I was in no shape to go from the window so I had to face him. I hugged Millie goodbye and opened the door to see Louis sitting on the floor crying. It hurt me that I couldn't help him but it was his fault that all of this was happening. I ran out the door, louis following close behind. I shut the house door in his face and ran to my room. He got to my room door a few minutes later. Pounding and saying he's sorry and that he wants to explain. I just ignored him and fell asleep.

Hello asia! I'm going to title this essay "Why Boyfriends is about Louis - and that's okay!" by a friendly neighboorhood trans larrie. So let's give some background shall we? If you look at lyrics in the LCU (Larry Cinematic Universe) we can all see the main problem that has come up in their relationship: communication. I'll get into specific examples later but that's what it boils down to. As someone who has been here since 2012, I don't see anything in their lyrics to be about cheating, abuse, etc. So after a few listens of Boyfriends and reading the lyrics, I came to the conclusion that it's definitely about Louis and it's all about the lack of communication Harry felt he was getting during a difficult time. But what time, you may ask? Well, dear reader, in my humble opinion all their relationship troubles are not about cheating, feeling abused, break ups w.e angst wank people seem to think gay relationships can't get through like straight ones. No, imo it lies in a complicated mix of two big things: closeting, and Harry's gender identity. *for disclaimer purposes to cishets already offended by now: saying Harry is trans could mean a variety of things. His pronouns could be he/they/she but there is no denying that in the past 12 years of Harry bring in the spotlight, his relationship with gender is there and something that trans fans have picked up on, just like the gay ones who picked up on their relationship. This is just one person's interpretation of their songs so if you don't agree please ignore it. And be kind*

So, you might say, what do you mean, dear anon? Gender in the LCU? More likely than you think! I want to preface by saying that I analyze LCU songs on what I believe happened between them: they were feeling the restraints of their closet early on 2012-14 and were bad at communicating their feelings about it (Louis personality makes me think he's very much the "lets ignore our problems so we dont dwell on them" type man), but during all that Harry was also dealing with gender dysphoria and felt like Louis was shutting him out so he had no one to talk to. So when Harry finally opened up about it, Louis felt awful for not being there for him. Too Young reads as a big apology for all of that but I'll get back to that later. Take Walls and how its about Harry. Verse 1: "nothing wakes you up like waking up alone, and all thats left of us is a cupboard full of clothes" (very clearly referring to a closet with "us") "the day you walked away and took the higher ground was the day that I became the man that I am now". Now bear with me here: imo this entire intro is Louis describing their relationship as they deal with Harry's gender identity. Why? Because look at the word "higher ground". When do you go to higher ground? When flooding happens aka water disasters. Water, which has literary themes of rebirth when you emerge from it, is a big theme in Harry's music videos. Specifically with Falling with him underwater lamenting about his identity. He's drowning, feeling worthless, "what if I'm someone you won't talk about?". I believe Falling is about Harry feeling the lows of being trans, overthinking how it affects Louis, and the music video reflects that. Now back to Walls. The day Harry was able to escape the drowning (gender acceptance and euphoria) and take higher ground was the time Louis finally felt like they solved the worst of their communication issues and Louis could be "the man that I am now" in being an ultra supportive partner. The high walls Louis sings about is the way he used to box himself in from trying to deal with their problems (that he only thought was closeting but instead much deeper) but in the end they all came "falling" (*pointed stare*) down for Harry. Thats why he laments about "hurting who you love and no amount of words would ever be enough" when its literally the love of his life "you were my because". Louis has always been supportive of the trans community so I think he was kicking himself for a long time for not noticing what was happening with Harry. That's why the "thank yous" are so bittersweet. It was a painful but necessary wakeup call of not being there for his partner but they both grew from it. Perfect Now was born out of Louis giving Harry gender affirmations. Always You and We Made It are celebrating that they got through it together. But what about Too Young and Defenceless? Fear not! Because this is how they tie into Boyfriends. (2)

Boyfriends reads as Harry feeling unsupported Louis. In fact, think of it as Harry talking to a mirror about his problems after a hard day. Verse 1: "boyfriends, they think you're so easy, they take you for granted" The you is himself of course. Because of the lack of communication in their relationship, Harry felt like Louis wasn't paying attention to him. "They don't know they're misunderstanding you". This line speaks volumes to me. When you use "misunderstanding" it means that someone isn't understanding you correctly. But the boyfriend does not know that he's not understanding Harry correctly, right? Sound familiar to past themes in songs? As stated before Too Young feels like a big apology song by Louis for not being there for him. "I wish I could've seen it all along" stands as a mirror to the misunderstanding line. "I'm sorry that I hurt you darling" again for all the pain the lack of communication caused and not being there for Harry. And the rest of Too Young follows this apology theme that answers Boyfriends. The last line of the verse ends with "you, you're back at it again" and means Harry realizes the way the problem keeps coming back and he's just back to crying about it without solving it. (3)

Next verse goes "weekend, when you get deep in" could talk about how they both aren't working at the end of the week and Harry has time to get lost in his thoughts ( reminds me of "harry you're no good alone" from As It Was). "He starts secretly drinking, it gets hard to know what he's thinking" = Louis drinking with his lad friends where he's able to vent about their problems, but Harry wouldn't know about what they're saying because Louis doesn't vent to him. "You love a fool who knows how to get under your skin" Harry lamenting that Louis isn't open about their problems and goes to talk to others instead of trying to solve it themselves (Imo Defenceless tells Louis side of the story to Boyfriends with nod to "sleeping on our problems like we'll solve them in our dreams" and feeling shut out by Harry too). "You, you, you still open the door" when Louis comes home yet still not talking about their problems and it eats him inside. Verse 3 goes "you're no closer to him, now you're halfway home, only calling you in, don't wanna be alone, no and you go, why? You don't know". Again the theme of Harry not wanting to be alone, yet not feeling close to Louis, and questioning why he still goes through with it. Harry also sings is as "half way home" like the space in between that's just like the song Louis registered. I wouldn't be surprised if Louis Half Way Home song will have the miscommunication theme too. Verse 4: "Boyfriends, are they just pretending? They don't tell you where it's heading" and this reads like Harry feels as if Louis is just pretending to care for him at that point, and questions what's going to happen to their relationship. "And you know the games never ending, you, you lay with him as you stay in a daydream" and time for a "she" throwback! At this point everyone must know that She is all about Harry's gender journey. "She lives in daydreams with me" is a clear reference to this daydream line. Harry truly feels himself in those daydreams that Louis doesn't know about. And someone might listen to "boyfriends" and think "well why doesn't Harry just tell him?". If it was only so simple. Harry being trans could have made him scared of what that meant for his relationship with Louis. Would Louis break up with him? Would he look at him different? Would he not support him? Again this is the love of his life since he was 16. It can be incredibly scary to think Louis would leave him because he found his true self. It's very clear that Harry tends to think of worst case scenarios when he's hurting, and the fact he couldn't talk with Louis openly added onto those fears. They were already having problems because of what their closet put them through, so imagine Harry thinking it would be worse with a gender crisis. That's why he tells himself in the mirror "you're a fool, you're back at it again". It becomes a cycle of hurt once again as long as they don't talk. (4)

So now as this essay comes to an end, someone might ask "well who is to blame for their problems?". Let us not forget the real villain of the story: homophobia. The closet due to this gave them their biggest problems, and we can't even begin to cover what the homophobic world has done to gays mental health. Also Simon Cowell can burn. Now as for Harry and Louis? I think they both realized how bad their communication was and were able to solve it with each other. Louis tried to keep them happy in their closet by not talking about their problems caused by it, and while it was with good intentions, it ended up leaving Harry alone to deal with his gender identity. Harry's gender journey ended up (to no one's surprise) being fully supported by Louis once he knew, and it ended up making their relationship stronger. I believe Lights Up was born right after this, with the themes of "never going back" and the questions of "do you know who you are?" recurring about identity and feeling joy about finding yourself. It fills me with joy to know that Harry has a partner in Louis that loves him truly and was able to give him so much support over the years (that is obviously reciprocal you heathen rads). I truly believe Harry wouldn't be here without Louis. They are it for each other and always have been. So thank you Louis Tomlinson for being the partner all of us trans folk would want in our lives someday. No wonder H is so much in love with you.

WELL. It’s been a year. They still don’t want anything to do with their toxic family members/in-laws (GOOD FOR THEM, SET THOSE HEALTHY BOUNDARIES). As a result they’ve been stripped of their “His/Her Royal Highness” titles plus a lot of other royal titles which in royal terms is a Big Fucking Deal but they seem to be doing just fine without it. (also Prince Andrew still has all of his royal titles and patronages even though he literally can not leave the United Kingdom or else he will be arrested and extradited to the United States to face very serious criminal charges)

Then Harry & Meghan announced they were doing a tell-all with Oprah where they’d spill ALL THE TEA. Some context: last time a major royal tea spill happened, Princess Diana told an interviewer that Charles frequently cheated on her, she cheated on him, and that she was severely bulimic and made several suicide attempts and Charles and the royal family did NOTHING. And then there’s the “I don’t sweat” interview Prince Andrew did where he insisted that Jeffrey Epstein was just a friend and it was just REALLY CONVENIENT to stay at Epstein’s house even after Epstein had been registered as a sex offender. 

A few weeks ago, Prince Phillip who is 99 and has a pre-existing heart condition was admitted to the hospital with a blood infection, and it basically looks like he’s circling the drain. People are full on saying that Harry and Meghan’s interview will kill him, to which I say good riddance you whiny racist fuckface. 70 years ago he knowingly and willingly married the heir to the British throne and has spent the entire goddamn time whining about his masculinity and being out-ranked by his wife. A few days ago he “successfully underwent a heart procedure” so he may yet make it to 100, because some people are able to not only live entirely off of but fully fucking THRIVE off of spite alone.

A few days after that, a British newspaper published a few “unnamed sources” saying that Meghan bullied her staff and Buckingham Palace immediately said they would investigate the matter. Just to reiterate: a few unnamed sources saying Meghan was mean: this is thoroughly unacceptable and it must be fully investigated. Virginia Guiffre brings the fucking receipts on Prince Andrew: lying bitch. 

So the interview airs tonight. There’s something really meaningful to me, knowing that I can also trace my bullshit family trauma at least back four generations too, that the royal family is also a fucked up dysfunctional family like the rest of us, they just have to do it all publicly, with ballgowns and tiaras. I can’t fucking wait.
