there's a story going around on twitter about how this guy rented out his home and lives in a van and now the tenant is five months behind on rent and is renting out the basement on airbnb
and the replies to this are all bloodthirsty stuff about how it should be legal to murder the tenant and whatnot
and i do think it's kind of bonkers that the city will let you put the basement up on airbnb while being behind on rent but... is this homeowner not just stupid?
he could've just lived in his house! or just sold it! he chose to use his house as a speculative investment and it sucks for him that it's not working out but i don't really get why he would put himself in this situation in the first place

I watched Lisa Frankenstein and it was deeply silly and the pacing was bad and the 80s slang was off and the start was slow and there were so many things wrong with it. It was also fun as hell. Lovely final act and I had a great time. five stars outta five stars. I'm gonna call this a cinematic masterpiece while looking a filmbro right in the eyes to establish dominance.
#I am contractually obligated to eventually watch any and all Frankenstein adaptations you see#even more so than phantom of the opera adaptations. my standards for what makes a good erik are high and also highly personal.#so I often refuse to consume phantom content that I feel will not appeal to me#I have the right emotional distance from Frankenstein to actually think about it#for example I was gonna trash this movie because Lisa does literally nothing to raise the Creature herself#and the creature is the one solving all her problems#but then the movie goes on and you find out that homegirl's innovation / contribution to the process is murder#and like oh okay then! right on

#mileposting#sorry if this seems like its targeting anything i literally just started thinking abt it for no reason#like this is not a vague LMAO but i think its smth ive thought about for a long time and i finally have the words for it#because like. okay for one all stories are based on the human experience whether its About the Human Experience or not#so i think when approaching a work of fiction and seeing something that has implications in real life#a lot of people have the kneejerk reaction of ‘its fantasy/its made up/its not real’#but where did it come from? who was it written by? what are the writer’s personal feelings on the matter and does their bias affect the work#this is just a me thing i guess but i dont find it any fun to see those connections and immediately disregard them#its because of those structures and systems that we can find a fantasy work so compelling#i understand the want to just turn off ur brain sometimes and be like fuckkkk cool dragon#like i fucking love a good dragon or whatever dont get me wrong#i have a world of my own thats literally just Ooh cool shit#but i would not call that compelling. fun maybe. but a lot of the appeal is lost for me#fantasy worlds are mostly just. our history but with fantastical elements to it#they typically are not fantastical worlds with our elements Removed from it#so the way specifically societal structures are treated differently in that aspect is interesting!#idk this is kind of a nothing post also you can tell i got distracted like five times in the middle of writing the tags. smile

I will never understand the fanfic impulse to take characters with thee most coo coo bananas codependent/nuanced/toxic/insane relationship and turn them into love interests #1 and #2 in a generic romance novel. like what is even the point anymore

#sorry i hate the third season of channel zero always have and im speaking my truth now HJKDLSJHFKD#okay like. channel zero in general. the first season is like#i wouldnt say its good. honestly it started okay and kinda intriguing#and then got kinda bad. and then at one point it flipped back around and became camp to me#so i kinda like the first season but through no credit of itself HJKHJKDS#and as an adaptation i thought it was like too confusing for people unfamiliar with the creepypasta but too uninterested in the details#of said creepypasta to appeal to fans of it. but it was a bit camp. a little bit#the second season was fine. it wasnt perfect but i thought it held up decently as a story and as an adaptation#i never got around to watching the fourth season. i hear it was fine#but that third season was WRETCHED i remember it being rated well as a story but it was so like. disrespectful as an adaptation#(also it was too focused on gore and blood for me at the time. like i dont mind gore but it felt so like. meaningless?)#(and i wasnt sure about its depiction of mental health at the time but maybe my opinion would change nowadays it has been a while)#like you got the rights to such a weird and surreal concept and ignored it entirely....what on earth#no baby crying loop in the middle of the wilderness alone....no stairs that cut off your arm cleaning in the woods...NOTHING#literally so tragic. @ nosleep authors and other online horror writers PLEASE watch out when giving out adaptation rights#if i remember correctly the poor search and rescue author got screwed over by syfy which is so sad 😔#also please publish some kind of paperback version of ur stories for lil ol me. pretty please#basic print on demand is fine id just love to have more creepypasta and nosleep stuff on my bookshelf LOL#also still sad theres no left right game book. blease it would be so good published BLEASE

no but seriously mascot horror doesn't mean "any reasonably popular horror game about or with an emphasis on a central character with an appealing design" especially just because kids might also like it. people in the notes of that post are just throwing literally any game under the bus of that identifier not realizing that most of them far predate the marketing concept a lot of developers are using now to draw in specifically young children with unsupervised online access by designing cute and appealing characters within insubstantial and casual horror-flavored games that are easy for let's players to make videos of that are also backed by a strong merch campaign right out of the gate to generate easy sales from kids who want a plush of this new flavor of the month character.
baldi's basics is not mascot horror. fnaf is not mascot horror. tattletale is not mascot horror. bendy and the ink machine is not mascot horror. none of those games were designed to capitalize on and take advantage of the wild imaginations and curiosities of a very young audience and no matter how you feel about those games their purpose for existing is not "we need to hold the attention of 5 year olds watching youtubers play the game on their crusty ipads because we think kids are an easily exploitable audience unworthy of anything better than a playable ad campaign"

started actually spiraling out today i am. unwell

#I haven't written anything like this since uh...#since I think I was trying to appeal my thesis topic which got rejected the first time I tried to submit it#which was back in like...2019 or something#I mean sure I also wrote the thesis paper which was HELLA academic writing but at least that was like#very directed on a singular topic and also the only thing I had to think about for like 6 months straight#I'm still scared as hell but nothing gets me to act despite my anxiety about something quite like a deadline#god I have to think about how to word my ''please write me a letter of rec'' to my old professors who haven't heard from me in literal year#but that's for future me present me has to figure out how I'm gonna get to sleep tonight on IBS Pains Night no.2!#the good thing is this will all be over by Wednesday before I have to go to work but god I hate being all wound up like this#oracle of lore
