Once u notice that 99% of white americans (maybe just americans in general) operate at all times as if native americans don't even exist anymore it's impossible to stop seeing it. Like. Even if they intellectually Know that is not true at all they would never assume that a native person is in the room with them, that a particular audience they are addressing could include native people, that anyone they pass on the street could possibly be native. And because so many of the dominant cultural images of native americans revolve around like, "humorously" offensive outdated Americana (sports team mascots, old westerns, pocahontas, novelty indian statues at rest stop gas stations and shit) and actual native communities don't have enough cultural influence on their own fucking land to provide widespread, self-determined representations to counteract that (or even to convince people to get rid of the bad shit!), people just internalize the idea that anti-native racism is more gauche or ridiculously antiquated than it is genuinely harmful to any real living people.

#Rambling kind of and I am not native myself to any relevant degree but i've just been thinking about this a lot lately #Even growing up in a very self-styled ''progressive'' area. We did a class play in kindergarten that had 2 of these 5 year olds #dressed up as indians. Idek why or what it was about but for some reason i just vividly remember #the little costumes.#There are literally ANCIENT burial sites all around here that have largely been bulldozed over and now sit beneath shopping centers #and fucking parking lots that i've been to more times than I could count and i had never even heard of that until i was a grown ass adult!#It's jsut CRAZY how no one cares and everyone acts like this is normal. Maybe cringeworthy but normal #the goal of the settler is to disappear the native and even if that has not happened materially #it has definitely happened psychologically

I'm feeling weirdly nostalgic about my fics this Monday morn so I wanted to let you all know of stories I intend to write/finish

Teach Your Children series - I'm winding down from the mania but still pretty obsessed with Adventure Time so I will finish this series but it may be my last AT story for a while. Finn's section is partially done and Simon's wrap up is just that.

when I am dead my dearest - I always planned on finishing this series with a fourth addition from Jack's POV wrapping up the idea of the 3 main people in Danny/Phantom's life who don't know his identity

The Road Not Taken finale fic - I know BNHA isn't the juggernaut it once was and most people have no interest in this AU anymore but I dreamed up this finale at pretty much the same time I was ending TLWA so if I don't write it I think I may actually die

Copper and Silver - my literally 98% done fem Kaito DCMK genderbend story that, for some reason, I cannot scrape up the motivation to finish

Gold in the Sunlight - my long Billy Batson reveal fic that is totally planned out and has maybe one chapter completed but again, I'm in and out of DC

Unnamed sequel to We'll Meet Again Some Sunny Day - Yeah I had jokingly laid out what would happen after the end of the fic and now I really want to write it. It and a potential middle fic are outlined

#yeah idk who cares but THESE are the fics that I most want to finish #this isn't counting vague ideas and half outlined notes #these are all fully formed in my brain pan and just need time and motivation #*jingles my little cup* spare encouragement for a poor sad fic writer #idk been feeling down on my fics lately wondering if they were worth the time and effort #but I reread some last night and this morning and if nothing else *I* like them and love rereading them #But maybe if there's one in particular you want to see first...

Randomly remembered the half-reason i call my oc-verse by the name it has while laying in bed. One-half of the reason i still knew, but I had forgotten what had truly, really cemented it jointly until now

(it was a song from my favourite band I haven't listened to in a while.)

(the song fit so well at the time, still does, that i needed to hold onto it for the main protagonists forever, by partially naming their story in reference.)

Does this explanation make any sense? Does anyone know why I'm tearing up remembering this. Aahh

I'm a little misty about it.)#The song is just The Killers - Run For Cover. I couldn't see them in person all those years ago—family went without me.#All my new oc rework with Zin and Hunter and Caia were like a year old or so.#It's a little silly. But the character Zin's derived from was a lightning mage so I stuck to it—I like monhun's zinogre for what its worth #So there's recurring theme and imagery. Thunder's not lightning but the sound and the feeling after the flash the flame and strike.#There's that meaningful thought—the story is the aftermath of a big tragedy. It matches what I like in monsters and other chars.#And at that time—my favourite band I missed out on puts out a really good song I download everywhere and it goes like:#He motioned me to the sky/ I heard heaven and thunder cry/ Run for cover/ Run while you can baby don't look back/ You gotta run for cover #And it goes on of course. The rest of the song's still really good. There's more that fits but point is; More evocative imagery.#So there. Why my bundle of OCs—Zinadia Hunter and Caia's story—is called Thunder 20XX. minus the 20XX. That's tongue-in-cheek #About some day I'll manage to make something tangeable or broadly shareable with them. I guarentee this century!#Thunder... oh my darling Thunder. Eight years man. Lol I never resent my mother more for both smoking while pregnant with me and constantly smoking around me throughout my childhood despite my already diagnosed and serious chronic health issues (plural) than when I really miss playing the clarinet

#don't smoke around kids #that goes for pot too #lol turns out new research shows that there's a large correlation between Crohn's disease and maternal smoking so #don't smoke while pregnant either #literally the only time an adult in power ever cared about me was when the ER dr treating me for severe bronchitis #looked at my records and saw i had been there the year before with the same issues bc my mom was always smoking around me #and told my mom if i came back to the ER with bronchitis again he would call CPS on her ass #so after fourteen years (fifteen if you count the pregnancy period) of smoking around me she finally stopped #too little too late my lungs are permanently scarred and weak lmao #so bye bye clarinet #and that was before i developed asthma even

Yesterday's poll decided that The Adventurer should join the travelers on the larger river boat for a short lunch ...

"Before he even fully musters the courage to shout a 'hello', the large group on the boat initiates contact first, gleefully waving at him, whooping and shouting as they near his tiny raft in the water. Apparently, some of them were betting over whether they'd actually find any other travelers out on the river today.. He fumbles over his words a bit, as always, but somehow manages to successfully get himself invited onto their boat for a quick lunch..

After safely securing his raft to the side of the boat with some spare rope, he climbs aboard, stumbling into the excitement of some sort of celebration. A few of them explain that they're traveling for 'kahesallei', an old elven holiday recently re-popularized in some of the larger cities nearby. Whatever it's true meaning and origins used to be, the current significance (at least to those within the city walls) seems to just be mindless feasting, drinking, and gaudy decor. Most of the traveling group are strangers to each other, only brought together by catching a ride on the same tour/party boat, but the mood is light, quite friendly between them, and perhaps a bit drunk.

While the boat itself is relatively plain wood, it's been strewn with gold and orange banners, flags, shimmery tassels, beads, and bushels of dark green ivy braided with fresh herbs and wildflowers. There are flat round tables of food and drink, plenty of cushions to lounge on, and one random guy perched precariously on the edge railing of the boat, gently strumming a lute for background music..

The elderly ship captain hobbles over to The Adventurer, sternly explaining that, no matter what the 'silly' passengers say, he's only allowed to stay for an hour because he didn't pay for a boat ride ticket, and thus really shouldn't even be allowed on board. By the time The Adventurer has mentally processed this information, the captain has already returned to his little steering room, slamming the door shut with a displeased grunt.. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to confront him or question the rules...... But! Hey, at least he has one hour at the party.. How should he spend his time? "

the adventurer's current main goal: follow his map to reach the abandoned castle ruins and see the rare animal specialist about the mysterious egg he has

I can't even do five simple things in 2 weeks lol. I did start some new supplements and change my diet since #my doctors are still trying to sort out what health issues are going on or etc. so maybe it's something with that #like accidentally on the new diet I'm not getting enough calories or not getting enough of some vitamin or something so it's made me oddly #brain foggy and just really tired and unable to focus well for the past few weeks or something..? ANYWYA. not really sure what #it is specifically but my functioning in terms of actually focusing on and completing tasks has been a lot worse . thus #chronically behind on things. which I am always chronically behind on things in some sense since I always have like 7000 projects #I'm working on at the same exact time and etc. lol. but like.. even more chronically behind than usual .. ToT #ANYWAY.. I'm suprised that the 'try to get a ride on the boat' option didn't get that many votes actually lol #Like.. treveling down a river in a tiny handmade raft is probably.. not extremely safe or efficient lol #But at least he gets to have lunch there. Just the hour that he's on the boat doing whatever will get him a lot further because the boat #is moving faster than his raft would be. It should still get him out of the river and back on track sooner. Because he still has a long way #to go to get to the abandoned castle. I know it's been a lot of days since I'm not keeping up well with actually doing these #daily or every other day - but technically in the story it's only been a little over a day since he left the Inn #The first day he just walked. the second day he saw there was a barrier in his path. then spent half the day building a boat. and now he'e #*he's where he is now. The trip is roughly 4 days and he's like.. a little over halfway through his second. Not counting any detours or #distractions he might run into. But at least at this pace he should be off the river before it starts to get dark #Thate the main thing. you want to get a good rest on solid ground. ideally. So long as nothing strange happens on the boat #but yeah! day 10.. of little elf man adventure... ALSO he is like early 20s I imagine. so he can drink hbhjbjh #I know the 'very quick simple ms paint style' is kind of chibi-ish so it makes people look young but he's not a boy #don't worry. I didnt want it to seem weird like some 10 year old kid walking into a party of drunk 30 year olds #like a toddler hanging out in a night club or whatever. It's safe and okay for him to be there. just for the record. lol #I mean maybe not SAFE safe. it's still a boat of like.. rowdy party goers who could easily fall over the edge into the water or whatever bu #but like.. safe in the sense that he's not a 6 year old being offered vodka by strangers at a party. etc.#despite his goofy nervous demeanor and chronic baby face syndrome he is indeed an actual adult somehow ghbj
