Claptrap vs. Wheatley

Wheatley wins by a landslide. Wheatley gives no fucks. He laughs while watching turrets being launched into an incinerator as he discounts their pain as ‘simulated’. He casually asks someone he met an hour ago to sacrifice herself so he can live. He also forces said person to go through a series of deadly tests for his own personal gratification, only to attempt to kill her ten minutes later because he doesn’t need her anymore. He even manages to destroy an entire building and trigger the meltdown of a nuclear reactor within twelve hours.

In contrast, the only time Claptrap got into a fight, he tried to cower from his opponent and accidentally triggered his rubber ducky floaty, bouncing his opponent into a conveniently located grinder. This and the subsequent incident upset him so much, he attempted to delete it from his memory and replace it with a much nicer fiction.

Both Claptrap and Wheatley have the kind of destructive chaotic power that only comes from the confident idiot, but Wheatley genuinely thinks he’s an unparalleled genius and will easily be able to convince Claptrap of that. In fact, Wheatley will talk Claptrap into defeating HIMSELF because it’s OBVIOUSLY better if Wheatley is the one to win, and Claptrap will agree with him and then actually do it, to Wheatley’s mild surprise. Claptrap will do literally anything Wheatley asks him to, as long as he sounds friendly enough. Fight? What fight? There was no fight. In fact, the fight already ended. It’s already over. Everyone went home. Who won? Oh, that’s not important. Not important at all. What IS important is that it happened. Definitely, actually did. And Wheatley won. By the way. There wasn’t a winner, but if there HAD been one, Wheatley definitely would have won. By a lot. By all the votes. And all the non-votes. He would have gotten all of them. So no fight was needed, really, because everyone voted beforehand. Or they would have, if there had been a vote. There wasn’t! But there would have been. And now that’s decided, let’s just… go home. Glad we agree.

Five Things You Will Find In My Fic (tagged by @lfthinker)

1. Love is Work

When I was a teenager I used to go to a youth group at a church, and every session the youth pastor would give a child-friendly sermon.  During one of them, he said, ‘You can fall into a puddle, you can fall into a hole.  But you can’t fall in love.  It takes work.’  As we can see, I never forgot it, and I also apply it to just about every relationship-related fic I write.  He meant it in terms of romantic relationships, but I’ve got it in parent-child and friend-friend relationships too.  Everyone works to improve their relationships with each other because they love them, and that in turn makes the love stronger.

2. Robots

I love robots. 

I was going to end it there, but then I remembered that I have read almost no robot-related science fiction that goes where I wish it did with it.  So we’re also going to throw in robots who exist independent of humanity, do not want to serve it, do not like it, and do not really have anything to learn from it. 

3. Repetition

I actually recycle my own ideas a lot.  Sometimes I move them from one fic to another with a slight variation, sometimes I think of the opposite way things could go and write that too.  If you read enough of my fics in a row, you could probably tell lol.  I’m not that creative so a lot of stuff just gets shuffled around into other things.

4. Anger

A lot of my characters have a hard time dealing with their anger and usually end up smothering it because they don’t know what else to do with it.  They do things they regret when they are unable to smother it.  Hilariously, I don’t know why I write this because this isn’t something I do.

5. Parents are People Too

Fanfiction tends to demonise parents for a convenient source of drama and angst (when they aren’t killed off, that is).  In my fics, we have parents who make bad - or simply not ideal - decisions because they truly believe they’re doing what’s best.  They’re not evil and they’re not stupid.  They just messed up.  Could they have done better?  Maybe.  But maybe not.
