Law with the 2° genre, prompt (O)
Again, pairing Law with a gender neutral reader here since it's not specified otherwise, and this is a bit of a short one but I think it's sweet
Find the prompt list here
o. "Normally you don't like PDA."
Content/Warnings: Law/GN!Reader, hurt/comfort, established relationship, PDA, Law is sad, reader is a heart pirate
It had been a long, hard day for everyone. Nobody more than Law. In fact, generally speaking, everyone's day had been made a little harder by Law. He didn't mean it, though, he was just struggling. He hadn't said anything about it, but you had a feeling you knew exactly what was wrong. The entire crew did. But it was up to Law to mention it first.
You all sat together on the shore of an island, some of the crew members paddling around and having fun in the water, while you sat on the shore beside Law. The two of you had been dating for almost a year now, and you grew closer every day, but he had never been a fan of PDA. You didn't mind, because he was affectionate with you in private, and that was all you needed from him.
The two of you sat in comfortable silence, watching the crew have fun, and just enjoying the summer sun. It was nice, a break you didn't often manage to get amongst the pirate activities.
Law sighed deeply and rested his head on your shoulder, which you accepted, letting him determine what he did or didn't want to do. When he spoke, he did so so softly that you weren't sure you'd heard him, so you asked him to repeat himself. "Hold me? Please?" He asked, still a whisper, but you didn't have a bone in your body that was able to deny him. You wrapped an arm around him and pulled him closer, then up into your lap, keeping him close and safe. "Normally you don't like PDA, otherwise I would've done this sooner." You mumbled into his ear, pressing a soft kiss to his temple. "I just.. need it, right now." "That's okay. I'll hold you as long as you need."

See Me
A request from anon for my 200 followers event
Content/Warnings: Crocodile/GN!Reader, pining, pre-slash, Reader is asked on a date, Reader wears Crocodile's clothes, inspired by Someone to you by BANNERS
You’d been working for Sir Crocodile for not far off twelve months now. Almost an entire year. It was potentially the busiest, and strangest job you’d had in your life so far, but you enjoyed it all the same. You worked as an assistant to the warlord, helping management of the casino. All in all, it wasn’t the easiest work, not because of the actual content of it but because of Sir Crocodile himself and what he tended to get himself into. He didn’t only run the casino, you knew that from your own observations, but it wasn’t something that he’d told you directly, and so you didn’t speak about it with him. It was something criminal, you were fairly sure, but that was nothing to do with you. If you didn’t get mixed up in it, you couldn’t get yourself into trouble.
And yet, you knew you were a little too close to being involved in it and losing your plausible deniability, because you wanted to date Crocodile. Yes, you were a complete cliche. You’d started a cushy office job and gotten a little too close to your boss, only to end up with a crush on him. You hated it. And yet, you couldn’t make yourself will the feelings away, or force the fantasies aside when you lay awake at night. He was unattainable, though, and you knew that - so what did the fantasies hurt? He’d never stopped longer than a moment to talk to you, you had no chance of it going anywhere, so it was harmless, right?
Wrong.
It was a warm day, even by Alabastan standards, and you were cooped up in your office as usual. You hadn’t expected the turn in the weather, and so you weren’t quite dressed appropriately, but you would make it work. At least paperwork hardly made you work up a sweat.
Crocodile looked in on you at around midday, and paused in the doorway.
“What are you wearing?” He asked gruffly.
“My.. clothes, sir?” You replied, because what sort of question was that?
After just ten minutes, Crocodile returned, and tossed a large shirt at you.
“It’s much too warm for that.” He said, to elaborate on what he’d meant.
“Oh, yeah it is. I didn’t realise how warm it would be until I left the house this morning, then it was too late to go back and change.” You said with a soft laugh, giving a not quite grimace, but not quite smile. He grunted and regarded you for a moment, then turned away and left the room. Well, alright then. You brushed off the interaction to continue with your work, because the heat didn’t make the pile of work disappear.
“Sir?” You asked, taking it in hand, mostly to get it off the work you were trying to do.
“That should be cooler.” He said, and then was gone. What? You lifted the shirt up, realising it was incredibly large, which would make it Crocodile’s. Fuck. His shirt. You waited a moment to ensure he was gone, then lifted it to your face to take a deep inhale of the scent of Crocodile's cologne and cigars. You loved that smell. You slipped into the closest bathroom to remove your previous clothes and replaced them with his oversized shirt, using your belt from the previous outfit to cinch it at the waist, and then pulled some of the fabric up further to rest overtop of the belt rather than underneath, which reduced the length. Not too bad. You kept on the bottoms you’d been wearing before despite your now lack of belt, because you didn’t think it was entirely appropriate to be in the office without.
You returned to your office, startled by Crocodile's presence in your chair.
“How is it?” He asked as you lifted your hand to rest over your heart, more than startled by his sudden reappearance, making the muscle beat thunderously beneath your ribs.
“Is there anything else I can help you with sir?” You asked, resting your hand on top of your desk just so it had somewhere to be, with your pockets out of reach beneath Crocodile’s shirt.
“I made it work.” You confirmed, placing your shirt from before, now folded, onto a dresser for you to grab later.
“Yes.. you did.” Crocodile murmured, and you stopped in your tracks as if frozen as a result of his words. The way he spoke was almost sensual, and your skin burned in response. You quickly shook your head, then continued your walk toward your desk.
“Would you like to come to dinner with me? Tonight?” He asked, and he looked about as surprised about his own words as you felt. Clearly nobody in the room had been expecting that suggestion.
“That’s very kid, sir. I’d happily take that invitation, if you’d like to do that.” You said, remaining as professional as you could given the situation. How were you supposed to react to an invitation like that from your boss, especially when he himself looked unsure about it?
“I’ll have Robin go pick up something nicer for you to wear, and when your shift ends you can use my bathroom to freshen up and change before we leave.” He said, suddenly far more sure of himself, decisive with clear instructions. He stood from your chair and headed for the door where he lingered for just a moment.
“Do you like Dressrosian food?” He asked, and just nodded when you confirmed before turning to sand and disappearing.
All you’d ever really wanted was for someone to want you, to care about you. Maybe care wasn’t the right word just yet but Crocodile saw you, more than most, and he at least wanted to take you to dinner. Maybe it’d go nowhere, but you wanted to be Crocodile’s and now you had the chance you’d never expected to have.

Hello☺️,
I have a combo for you.
Charakter: Benn Beckmann x (shy)Fem Reader
Setting: Hurt/comfort
Prompt: p: "Can you stay here with me tonight?" and/or d: "I'll still be here when you wake up."
Maybe something like sleepless nights with nightmares?
But I'll leave that to you
Thank you
It's a classic, but there's nothing wrong with classics! A nice easy trope with a loveable man. Hope you enjoy love!
Content/Warnings: Benn/F!Reader, Shy!Reader, hurt/comfort, nightmares, fluff, pining, pre-slash, past parental death, heavily implied the deceased parent had dementia/alzheimers
You were an interesting character on the crew. The only woman, and a strikingly different personality. Everyone on the ship was self-assured, loud mouthed, a party-goer except you. You were more shy, liked to keep to yourself, would sooner remain on the edges of a party to observe or even stay home. But, the thing that'd gotten you a place on the crew was that just like them you were an incredible fighter. You were a swordswoman, and a well trained one, and in battle all of your reserved personality disappeared to be replaced with that of a confident fighter, knowing that she'd make all the correct moves at the right moment and flawlessly survive.
After a fight was over, you'd return to your usual self, and it was a difference that the crew used to marvel at but was now just normal. You'd leave and wash up, rejoining them as the shy girl they knew and loved. And if you wished a particular crew member loved you in a slightly different way then that was your business. Well, and the business of your best friend on board Limejuice, but that was neither here nor there.
You were a good fighter because your upbringing had been, well, interesting to use a kind word. Your father had been an unusual character, who'd insisted on keeping you trained. At first, it had been to protect yourself but as he grew older the reason became to protect him. He'd become violent as he aged and forgot you, and it hurt you that you couldn't protect him like he'd wanted - there was no way to protect him from himself. He died after a few years of slowly losing his memories and his sense of self, and you'd left for the sea after that.
Sometimes you thought of your father, even after all these years, and it saddened you to know that there was nothing you could've done for him. You'd raise a glass to him while the crew cheered and laughed, and you'd drink in his name. But sometimes, you remembered him in your dreams.
For the most part the dreams were positive, of times past, when you were a young girl getting dirty while climbing trees or digging in the dirt for treasure and he would come and scoop you up in his arms to take you to dinner. He'd cherished you, like your mother would've wanted. Every now and then however, you'd dream of the later parts of his life, when he began to forget and it hurt like hell.
On this particular night, you'd accidentally fallen asleep at the edge of the deck while the crew played cards late into the night, with a blanket wrapped around your shoulders and your head in your arms on a table. It wasn't the most comfortable but you'd had a long few days.
Your dreams were not kind. You dreamt of your father, and at first it had been nice. You were a little girl again, playing hopscotch outside the house with the boy from down the street. Then your father emerged from the house confused and suddenly you aged fifteen years, the way you did in dreams, and you were an adult managing your father's sickness alone. He was angry, accusing you of trying to kill him with the meal you'd made, and he leapt at you, desperately trying to claw at your skin to kill you before you killed him.
You woke with a start to a hand on your shoulder and concerned eyes looking down at you. You gulped down air desperately, trying to steady yourself and slow your rapidly beating heart. Benn was there though, watching over you while you calmed, waiting for you to be ready to speak. "You okay?" He asked softly a few minutes later, when you were breathing normally and the pulse he could feel under his fingertips had slowed. "Bad dream. I'm alright." You assured him with a quick nod. He took a step back and offered you his arm with a charming smile. "Let me escort you to your room?" He offered, and you could only laugh softly and agree.
Benn led you to your room, both of you content with the silence. You didn't need to speak. He followed you into your room and made sure that you got into bed okay, his own anxiety pooling in his stomach. He worried about you, sometimes. "I'll still be here when you wake up, just across the hall. You can come find me if you need me." He offered, hand on the doorknob, already in the doorframe ready to leave. You hesitated for a moment, panic flooding through you again - you weren't sure you could be alone. "Wait-" You said quickly, sitting bolt upright just before the door could close. Benn reopened the door all the way, concern having returned to his expression.
"Sorry I just- I don't think I can be alone right now. Could you.. stay here tonight, maybe?" You asked nervously, voice so soft it could barely be heard. But Benn heard your request as if you'd yelled it, because he heard everything that you said, never needing you to repeat yourself. He nodded and re-entered the room, closing the door behind himself. "Move over then." Benn said with an easy smile, and when you did, he slipped into the bed behind you, easily pulling the blanket over himself. He didn't hold you because ultimately you were just friends still. But, when you fell asleep and shifted to lay on his chest, Benn kept himself awake for just a little while to enjoy the taste of what it would be like if you were his.

Save Me
Law & Reader fic for anon for my 200 followers event
Content/Warnings: Law & GN!Reader, angst, Law doing doctor things, reader struggles with mental health, inspired by how to save a life by The Fray
"Hey, make some time to come to my office today." Law told you in passing when you were leaving breakfast, and he was just arriving. What? That was a little ominous, but you just nodded and continued on your way. You had things to do, maintenance around the tang, so you set about your tasks. Law's words rang in the back of your mind for the rest of the day, haunting you while you tried to focus.
Around lunch time, you knew you needed to go see him, because if you didn't you'd just be distracted, unable to work as his words were all you could think about. A dozen possibilities circulated in your mind, but you couldn't guess what it was he wanted to discuss.
You knocked gently on the door to his office, and when there was no response indicating whether you could or couldn't enter, you slowly opened the door and peeked your head through to see Law sitting at his desk and working on papers. "You wanted to see me?" You said, hesitating there in the doorway. "Oh yes, come in and just sit down." Law said, quickly shuffling his papers together and off to the side of his desk. You did as he asked, pausing before you sat in the chair opposite him rather than on the examination table. Now this was really odd. "What was it you needed, Captain?" You asked after a brief, awkward silence. "I just wanted to talk to you about some.. things you've said recently." You said a lot of things, so that wasn't particularly helpful, but it was something at least. You had a brief flash of concern when for just a moment you thought maybe you'd upset someone on the crew, which was of course the last thing you would ever want to do.
"Everyone is worried about you." Law said, and all the air rushed from your body. Oh. Now you understood. At least you knew what was happening now. "Oh. Okay.." You trailed off, unsure of what he wanted you to say to that. Clearly, Law wasn't too sure what he wanted to say either. He knew the conversation was important, and apparently was needed, but he just didn't know how to do it. Silence followed where the two of you sat, fidgeting, uncomfortable but with no words to share.
"I don't know what you want me to say, Captain." You said, hoping to prompt.. something. Anything really. "You know we all care about you, right? We'd miss you if you were gone." The words left Law in a rush, as if he needed to force them out, and you weren't surprised that it felt like that. You all knew he cared about you sure, but he wasn't often verbally affectionate. "I know Cap. Logically.. I know." "But that doesn't make a difference." Law finished, a knowing expression on his face. As if he'd experienced something like that before. "Yeah." You agreed, voice just a whisper. That was exactly it. Sometimes it didn't matter how much you knew that the crew cared for you, because the voice in your head would whisper that they didn't really, that they were only pretending. It was exhausting both to listen and to ignore it.
"You know if there was more I could do for you, I would. If you would talk to me I could.. prescribe you something? It might help." Law offered tentatively, but you just shook your head. You really didn't like the idea of being medicated. It wasn't something that you wanted, unless necessary. "And isolating yourself isn't a solution - don't think we don't see you doing it. It makes you worse, and I think you know that too." You looked down at your feet with a sigh, not giving him a response. Of course you knew, but it just wasn't that easy. But then, he knew that too. Law had been through the ringer, he understood if nobody else did.
"I want help, Cap." You whispered, and Law rounded his desk to pull you to his chest. Law was prone to small, casual acts of physical touch like patting someone's back or leaning against them - but a hug was special. You embraced him in return, clutching at him like he was a lifeline. "I've got you. I'm here."

Here I go :D – Shanks with the 2° genre, prompt (a.) ✨
You started with something nice and basic, and I did not start with it, but hey, what can I say, I'm doing it now!
Find the prompt list here
Content/Warnings: Shanks/GN!Reader, showering together, non-sexual but characters are naked, hurt/comfort, established relationship, slightly suggestive comments
"Let me wash your hair for you." Shanks offered as he stepped into the bathroom, finding you already in the shower. It'd been a long day, and your lover could always be counted on to be there to lean on when you needed him.
"Sure." You agreed easily, and he stripped down and followed you into the shower with comfort that came from familiarity. It was far from the first time he'd done this. He wrapped his arm around your waist and rested his chin on your shoulder, keeping you close and using you to warm him up a little. He pressed a few soft kisses to your jaw, where he could reach, rubbing small circles into your hip with his thumb.
Nothing much had even happened that day, just a small argument with some locals - it'd just really drained you. The final straw on the camel's back. But now, Shanks was here to make it better.
Silently, he pulled away to lean over to where the shampoo was stored, the traditional lid replaced with a pump so he could use it with his one hand. He pumped the liquid into his palm, then began lathering it on your head, massaging your scalp with his fingers. He knew what to do with his fingers, you'd give him that much. You relaxed the longer the two of you stood there, he had that sort of effect on you. Once he was done with your hair, he gently guided you to turn around to rinse it, and began to massage your body wherever he could reach, further helping you loosen up.
"I dunno what fancy stuff you do with your hair - but damn if I don't know how shampoo works,so I can do that for ya at least." He said with a soft laugh, and you couldn't help joining his laughter.
It was the little things that made you feel better after a long day, and Shanks was brilliant at knowing just how to make you smile.

Nobody like you
A request from @cathriine for my 200 followers event
Find the 200 followers event here!
Content/Warnings: Zoro/F!Reader, straw hat reader, SFW romance, friends to lovers, getting together, inspired by Streets by Doja Cat
There was nobody quite like Roronoa Zoro. He was a one of a kind, and destined to achieve his goals. Okay, maybe you were just a little biased, but it was hard not to believe in your crewmates with the way Luffy spoke about dreams, particularly the dreams of everyone on the crew. Yes, you were particularly biased toward Zoro, but that was nobody's business but your own.
You often lay awake in bed at night, listening to the waves of the ocean crash against the side of the Merry, thinking about him. Your beautiful bunkmate Nami was none the wiser, often falling asleep the moment her head hit the pillow. You, on the other hand, couldn't help losing sleep because you lay awake fantasising about what could be between you and Zoro.
Maybe it was a pipe dream, a foolish fantasy, but that didn't stop you thinking about it anyway. Anything could be real in the realms of your mind.
The more time passed, and your feelings for Zoro continued to develop, the more you struggled to face him head on. You were still friends and foremost, but you preferred not to spend time with him alone, because it came to a point where all you could think about was taking the dive and confessing, maybe kissing him, and you couldn't bare to lose the close friendship you have.
Then, one day, Zoro found you alone, and sat down beside you. Usually you'd have waited a while, then made your excuses and left him there alone, but the look on his face told you this was important, and worth waiting to hear.
"I'm shit with words, so I'm just gonna come out with it.. I like you. Like I wanna kiss you, or whatever." The two of you sat there in silence for a long while, Zoro's eyes on the deck beneath his feet and yours on him. He what?
"You.. with me?" You asked, struggling to make your words be coherent, your brain was still busy catching up with you.
"Yeah. If you want." Zoro responded, shrugging as if he didn't care, or it didn't matter, but both of you knew that it did.
"Like right now?" You asked, and Zoro spent a long minute looking at you, as if wondering if you were stupid (or maybe regretting confessing). Rather than responding, Zoro simply inched toward you, then pressed his lips against yours. You couldn't find it in yourself to complain about that.
Maybe women would always want Zoro, and always try their luck with him. Maybe you would never be able to ignore it, but you couldn't blame them.
After all, there was nobody quite like Roronoa Zoro.

Feel Bad? Nah
A request from anon for my 200 followers event
Find the 200 followers event here!
Content/Warnings: Benn Beckman/GN!Reader, sexual content, cheating on bad partner,
You hadn't meant to do it.. okay maybe you had. There was no use hiding it really, but you also didn't feel bad about it. He didn't deserve you feeling bad about it.
You'd had a partner, back on your home island, before you'd joined the Red Hair Pirates. He'd been sweet, at first, but over time he'd changed. Story of your life. He'd been doting, cared for you, you felt good. Then, you'd experienced the way your friends on the Red Force treated you, and in comparison he didn't seem all that special anymore. Then, his letters had changed in tone too. He was frustrated at first about you being separated, which you understood, being long distance was hard. Then he was angry you'd left. Then he talked bad about your crew members. Then he turned to accusing you.
And, well, if he'd already made up his mind, you may as well be exactly what he accused you of. It wasn't like he could do anything to stop you, and you could just choose to never go back home.
Benn was a far better lay than your ex ever could've been, too.
You'd spent many nights (and early mornings) together, moaning and borderline screaming, bringing yourselves pleasure over and over, in a way you'd never experienced before. You stopped missing him, stopped responding to his letters, stopped reading them altogether. You weren't official with Benn, but you didn't need to be, you were happy with what you had going.
One day, the snail rang. Shanks hadn't been expecting a call, and when it began with yelling, he'd almost put it down, until he saw your face. It was your ex. "Let me, please boss." Benn said with a grin that promised trouble, and with a smirk of his own, Shanks handed the snail over.
"How can we help ya?" Benn asked, rocking back in his chair, feet propped up on the table in front of him. "Sorry, don't know anyone called that." He said, looking directly at you. He winked, flicking his tongue out to wet his lips. "Oh shit, you're right. No, I know who you mean. Yeah, but I wouldn't say yours." There was a pause, then a lot of yelling, with some strong language. "Well yeah, have to say, I didn't realise. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have spent all those nights inside them like that."
Benn sat the snail back on the table and let your ex yell himself hoarse. What did either of you care what he had to say anyway? Eventually, he picked the snail up once again to speak. "Yeah, I'm done listening to your horseshit. Don't call again." And then he ended the call. Well, at least that ties off that loose end.

– Sanji with the 2° genre, prompt (u.) 🍡
You know, I never would've paired this prompt with Sanji, but I think its more harsh nature pairs itself well with a masculine reader, so that's what I'll do! This ended up being pretty long so everything is under the cut
Since this is the first one I'll be posting like this I'll just explain - anything where you only requested one character, I assumed was to be paired with a Reader, since I struggled with making a lot of them work as a solo thing.
Content/warnings: Sanji/M!Reader, hurt/comfort, getting together, reader is insecure, Sanji is kinda cruel at the start whoops, Sanji has a gay awakening
You'd been acting off all day, you knew you had, and while the crew hadn't mentioned it you were aware they'd noticed and that they were beginning to worry. Generally, you kept in high spirits. Not today. It wasn't any much, your insecurities had just been getting to you lately. You also felt ridiculous for letting that spoil your mood all day, which was only making your mood worse. You were the least attractive person on the crew, in your opinion (outside of Chopper because who is calling a kid attractive). Most days, you let yourself be confident in the fact that it didn't matter because that didn't make you ugly and you had a good personality so why did looks matter. Some days it bothered you anyway.
You were docked at an island while the log pose set, and pretty much all of the crew had received attention from people (of their preferred gender and not), outside of Chopper, but again, he didn't count (and he'd still had a group of teenage girls call him cute). You? You'd not gotten a single comment or even a look. It just made your stomach twist. It was stupid and you knew it, but it was eating you up inside. Worrying about that just led to more worrying about other things and you were spiralling a little even if you were attempting to pretend you weren't. It wasn't working.
"What's your problem?" Sanji asked as he emerged from the kitchen having just finished cleaning all the dishes from lunch.
"I don't want to talk about it, Sanji." He'd not gotten much attention from women, but oh boy had Sanji gotten attention from men. He'd brushed every one of them off, rather unkindly, and that hurt too. You'd had a bit of a crush on Sanji for ages now, but moments like that told you that you couldn't ever share that fact with the cook.
"Then stop moping! It doesn't help anything, and it's not great for the mood on board." He retorted with a roll of his eyes, and you rubbed a hand over your face with a sigh. You didn't want to lash out, but you really didn't have the emotional availability to be kind in that moment.
"Sorry Sanji, my bad, I'll just pack it all up and ignore it all - God forbid I have fucking feelings." You snapped, pushing off the railing of the Sunny where you'd been leaving to walk away. You didn't want to deal with his shitty attitude today of all days.
-·—·-—-·—·-
You'd hidden away to calm yourself down, then taken a shower to release some of the negative feelings you'd had pent up. Residual negative emotions lingered, of course they did, but you were more prepared to push them aside and put on a happy face. You emerged on the deck and sat down with Robin to talk about the book she'd been reading, allowing yourself and your better mood to be more easily seen by the crew.
"What happened? You really looked upset." Nami asked after a few minutes, having come to sit in her usual spot beside Robin.
"Oh, nothing. Just had a chat with Sanji." You said with a shrug, smiling at them as best as you could.
"I hope you're not spoiling these ladies days with your foul mood." Sanji said as he appeared with two drinks, one for each of the ladies in question. Robin and Nami snapped their heads to look at him, unbelieving he could be so cruel.
"No don't worry Sanji - I took your advice and just got over it. Won't catch me moping again. I'll keep that to myself from now on." You replied, mock kindness on your face and in your voice. You weren't going to start an argument with him, but that didn't mean you couldn't be passive aggressive at least. He fixed a hard gaze on you, but kept his smile in place. Wisely, he said nothing, and left the drinks for Nami and Robin before swiftly returning to the kitchen.
-·—·-—-·—·-
You spent the rest of the day avoiding Sanji, even having asked Robin to save you a plate of food so you could eat away from the rest of the crew and mainly away from Sanji. She'd delivered your plate loyally, and just gave you a smile before leaving you to eat in peace.
Eventually though, the plate did need to be returned to the kitchen. It'd long since gone dark, and you were just hoping that Sanji was elsewhere by now.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid," you heard muttered from the kitchen, pausing outside to listen to whoever was so frustrated inside, "can't even be nice just for once. He just makes me so-" it was Sanji, of course it was. You weren't sure what else you'd been expecting. But he was in there, scolding himself, and it sounded like he was doing it over how he'd treated you.
You didn't knock, just pushed open the door and let yourself in, plate still in hand. Sanji stopped stock still, staring at you as if he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't have. You gently set the plate down on the table, pausing for a moment before turning as if to leave again.
"Wait-" Sanji called out, making you pause. There was another beat of silence while the cook found his words.
"I'm sorry," he said softly, hesitating before continuing, "I was unnecessarily cruel. You didn't deserve that."
"Yeah." You simply said, because just saying that wouldn't make him forgiven. You'd never done anything to him, you'd both just always had a joking friendship, where you'd take playful jabs at each other. They were never genuinely cruel.
"I just-" he paused again, fighting with himself to find his words, "you make me.. feel a lot of things that I don't know how to deal with. I just look at you and it all.. bubbles up inside of me and for some reason the only thing that ever gets out is something mean. What I said earlier was too far, and I am sorry. I was just worried." He finished, and you finally turned to face him. Sanji was flushed red, wringing his hands as if he was fighting not to put them elsewhere - his hair your brain helpfully supplied.
"Okay," you started, nodding slowly, "but that isn't a good reason. You didn't even try to get me to tell you. You didn't probe at all, you were rude when you asked what was wrong and then accused me of ruining the atmosphere on the Sunny. That's what you told me and best you can come up with is you were 'feeling a lot of feelings'?" You asked, growing more and more angry, but also more upset. You knew you couldn't have Sanji the way that you wanted him, but you'd at least wanted him as a friend. Maybe that was too much to ask for.
"I'm sorry! I'm not good with words - I can't make my brain tell my mouth what I'm thinking and I really want to help you understand even if you don't forgive me." You would forgive him, you knew you would, this would be petty to lose him over and would jeopardise the crew. But you couldn't be the same after this.
"Try."
"It's different than with other people. You feel- you make me feel different. I don't understand why. I just look at you and it's like.. the whole world stops moving for a minute," Sanji leaned forward, resting his hands on the table and stared right down at the wood rather than looking at you, "I've never felt like that before. It's scary. How am I meant to deal with something I don't understand? So I'm mean to you instead because maybe then it'll go away? I know it sounds stupid. And then when we're out and people look at you.. something just comes over me. I hate it. I just glare at them until they back down because they're not allowed to look at you like that."
You understood suddenly what Sanji was talking about. All this time you'd been so sure of what you couldn't have and in the background Sanji was having his gay awakening because of you. You were desperately trying to hold back, but you couldn't help laughing. He shot up straight as if he'd been struck, wounded by your laughter.
"I'm sorry- I know this is serious. I promise I'm not laughing at you, just the situation really. Sanji.. you have a crush on me. That's what that is." You told him, slowly approaching to close the space between you two.
"No! I- I like women." He defended, but he was hesitant, as if your words had given him clarity.
"Sure. But you also like me."
The two of you stood, silent, staring at each other. You, waiting for Sanji to decide what the next move was, and Sanji, processing the new information. In retrospect, he realised it was a little obvious.
"I acted like a little boy pulling on a girl's pigtails." Sanji muttered, suddenly a little humiliated.
"Yeah, a little bit." You agreed, and the cook just sighed. You both fell into quiet laughter finally, the tension of the entire situation drifting away.
"So uh.." Sanji started after a while, you let him find his words before responding, "what now?"
"That's up to you. I've liked you back for a damn long while now, but you've only just realised. You can go and take your time to process that new part of yourself if you w-" you didn't get to finish your sentence before Sanji's lips were on yours for the first time.
Yeah, now you definitely wouldn't be the same after this.

Whatever it takes
Dragon & Reader request for anon for my 200 followers event
Content/Warnings: Dragon & GN!Reader, Dragon is looking East, platonic relationship, fluff, inspired by Whatever It Takes by Imagine Dragons
You softly approached Dragon from behind. He was precisely where you'd known that he'd be, standing on the balcony outside of his office, looking out toward the East.
"Cornelia asked me to pass these along, sir." You said, holding out a few papers to Dragon, and after a brief pause he tore his gaze away from the horizon to take the papers from you. He flicked through them, and nodded. One final glance spared for the horizon later, Dragon led the way into his office, setting the papers onto an ever growing stack on his desk.
You remembered the day you first met Dragon. He'd been a younger man back then, and far less quiet. Less brooding. He'd been a young man who inspired the masses.
"Do you know why I do what I do?" He'd asked you, a beer in hand and a grin in place on his face.
"Why?" You asked, even though you were sure he'd start monologuing. You wanted to listen.
"I want my name to be on the lips of thousands. Not because I want to be worshipped, but because I want to be known for helping people who need it. I want to be able to do whatever it takes to change the world. I feel like I was born to do this, like there's freedom in my veins. I have to share it, because I remember a time I didn't feel like this and nobody should have to feel like that every day. I want to be a symbol, not of a movement, but of what our world could be. I want to spread.. freedom and health and joy." Dragon finished, looking down into his cup. He chanced a look over at you to find you smiling. "I don't know if that makes sense."
"I'll follow you, Dragon. That sounds like a cause I can support."
"Are you alright, Dragon?" You asked. You didn't often use his name anymore, but in soft and gentle moments like these, it felt important.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He asked in response and you just sighed. You rounded his desk to sit atop the side closest to him, reaching out to take a hand of his in your own.
"I'm your friend. Talk to me." You pleaded gently, squeezing his hand softly.
"The dawn is coming. I know it is. It'll rise in the East, and I think it's going to rise without me." It was such a silly thing to be upset about, because it wasn't rising without him, it was rising because of him.
"That boy of yours is magnificent. You created him with freedom in his veins, it's what makes his very heart beat, and you gave him that gift. The dawn isn't coming without you, it's coming because of you. Because of everything you've done since the day you left the marines," you insisted, pulling him closer to look straight into his eyes, "you'll be there at the final war, and we'll win. Together. Because you told me once that it isn't about you - it's about the people. Don't forget that now." Dragon smiled, just a small fragile thing, but he pulled you into a hug like he hadn't given in years, and your heart softened.
"Thank you for staying by my side all these years." He said softly, and you could only laugh, a grin on your face because he'd put it there all those years ago.
"There's nowhere I'd rather be."

– Shanks & Buggy & Reader with the 2° or 3°genre, prompt (e.) ✨
Oh this pairing has so much potential, but I like it being platonic. Switches up the vibe a little. You've given me a little too much power with that choice, but I think the end here manages both..
Content/Warnings: Shanks & GN!Reader & Buggy, hurt/comfort, hurt/no comfort, childhood friends, background character death, arguing, yelling, end of friendships
You, Buggy and Shanks had been friends for as long as you could remember. Your first few years had been rough, or at least everyone assumed so considering you'd been picked up by the Roger pirates as a three year old after Shanks of a similar age had identified you and wanted to play with you. A year later had come Buggy, and on the Oro Jackson the three of you were raised to be pirates. Shanks was always the strongest of the three of you, while Buggy was the most sensitive, and you were the smartest. Between the three of you, you would've made a brilliant pirate crew.
Would've. That was the key word. Past tense.
Roger had been executed, and the skies had opened up to scream their protests. Rain poured down over the three of you as you trudged through Loguetown and away from the execution platform. You couldn't bare to look at it anymore. Shanks was up ahead, leading the way, while you followed, hand in hand with Buggy.
You paused near the docks, and you took a few steps away from the boys to look out at the sea. It wouldn't be the same without him. You'd wanted to stay with the crew until you were at least sixteen, but you'd not been with them in over six months and you were only fifteen. Shanks and Buggy were hardly older than you. You'd been abandoned.
Your ears perked up as you heard yelling. Buggy. You whipped around to look for the danger, and realised it was you in trouble - Buggy was yelling at Shanks. You rushed over to their sides, stood just between them, trying to figure out what had happened.
"He isn't going to go looking for the One Piece." Buggy muttered, and you could hear how betrayed he felt, and some part of you felt the same. You looked at Shanks with slightly widened eyes.
"Shanks.." you murmured, searching his face in hopes you could understand.
"We can all still sail together." Shanks offered, but the offer was lame, it fell flat. He didn't even sound confident about the offer.
"But that's our dream Shanks - the one piece." You replied, inching closer to Buggy. You hated to choose sides when they bickered, but you all knew a choice had already been made.
"I just.. I don't know. Maybe it isn't mine anymore." Shanks whispered, but he might as he might as well have screamed it. Not his dream anymore?
You took Buggy's hand in your own, and laced your fingers. Both of you needed the support.
"You know, most people only deal with one idiot. You pick a best friend, and you put up with them for life. I thought you two would be the death of me. But it looks like I'll be picking sides before that happens." You said to Shanks, and Buggy squeezed your hand to reassure and comfort you. You watched as Shanks took a single step back, scared and betrayed, then he spun and took off in a sprint, away from the two of you.
You and Buggy leaned heavily against each other, tears rolling anew down your faces, eyes already sore and cheeks red and splotchy. You thought you'd cried your share of tears already, but of course there was more. Buggy held you, and you held him in return. For a long time the two of you stood there in a tight embrace, crying and letting the rain wash away your tears.
"We'll start our own flashy crew." Buggy said, and you smiled despite the tears and just nodded, not trusting your own voice. Yeah, you didn't need Shanks.

– Zoro with the 3° genre, prompt (n.) 🍺✨
Oof, Zoro has caused some problems in this one.. sheesh
Find the prompt list here
Content/Warnings: Zoro/GN!Reader, hurt/no comfort, intoxication, breaking up, argument, cheating, lots of cursing
You were so sick of Zoro's bullshit. Maybe he'd be the World's Greatest Swordsman, maybe he'd be the first mate of the Pirate King, maybe one day he'd be a good man - today, he was the single worst man you knew.
As usual, he was drinking, and just a little drunk. The only time he wasn't was if you were in the middle of a fight, and generally speaking that wasn't when you were trying to spend time with him. The drinking itself wasn't even the problem because he didn't often actually get drunk, though you were mildly worried about his health over it. No, it was the way he acted.
He'd drink, be abrupt, take a nap, wake up, and go somewhere else to drink. On the ship he'd sooner nap than spend time with you, and when you were on land he'd sooner be drinking in a bar than be with you.
But today it'd gone too far.
You were willing to discuss the neglect, and the drinking issue. They were problems that could be worked and improved on. But once a cheater, always a cheater. On another day you may have let it go, you may have told yourself that it was nothing or that it could be fixed but you were at the end of your rope with this man and it was about to destroy your relationship.
You stood on the deck of the Sunny, foul attitude obvious from over a dozen miles away, arms crossed over your chest. You were waiting for Zoro to come back. Nami had convinced you to go see Zoro, maybe you could pull him from the bar and do something together, and instead you'd found him chatting up some guy at the bar. They'd not been talking normally, just being friendly, no Zoro's hand had been on the dude's thigh and they'd barely been two inches apart. You knew what you were seeing - you were seeing the same moves he'd made with you just under a year ago.
It was well into the night when Zoro stumbled back to the ship with a grin, and when he spotted you his mood only improved, while yours managed to somehow sour further.
"Hey, I've not seen you all night, where were you?" He asked, moving as if to pull you into a hug, but you stepped cleanly out of his reach.
"That's what you have to say for yourself?" You asked, borderline incredulous.
"Huh?" He asked dumbly, lifting the bottle in his hand to his lips. Watching the action filled you with untold rage and you smacked the bottle from his hand.
"Oh I have had enough of you!" You yelled. Some part of you had wanted to keep this quiet, but a larger part had known just how unlikely that was.
"I've not seen you all night, what could I have done?" He asked, still playing the fool, and it took all your strength not to attack him just to take your anger out on him.
"You didn't see me - but I saw you! In that bar! With that guy!" And finally, he had the realisation that he really did have something to worry about.
"Shit I- I'm sorry, I just-" you didn't let him finish.
"No! Don't you dare try to come up with some bullshit! It's not just this, Zoro! It's all of it! When was the last time we had a fucking conversation, huh? The last time we spent any time together, just the two of us? Name one time in the last three months! You can't!" You stopped for a short moment to catch your breath and to see if he'd respond, but Zoro had nothing to say.
"I didn't think so. I cannot believe I let you get away with this for so long. This? Us? It's over. We're done. I'm not putting up with your shitty treatment anymore. I can do so much better, and I deserve that. And you, Roronoa Zoro, are pathetic." You spat, with all the venom you could muster, then spat on his shoes. He didn't say a word as you turned on your heel and strode away to go to bed, more than done with the interaction.
-—·-·—·—·-·—-
The next day, you went out of your way to avoid Zoro as much as possible. And the day after that. And the day after that. The crew iced him out a little on day one, but they stopped after that, and you didn't blame them. He'd been on the crew far longer than you had and it wasn't their fault he was a shitty boyfriend. Just Zoro's. Though, they clearly didn't approve of what he'd done so you took that victory.
Zoro, despite you avoiding him, seemed to be going out of his way to do things for you. He took your watch duty, helped with your chores, let you get first servings of food and drinks, even held open doors for you. As if that would fix what he'd done. Was he that stupid? Or did he just think that lowly of you?
After a week of his gentle treatment, you snapped again.
"Oh my seas, Zoro, would you back off?" You yelled at him over dinner, causing the room to go silent.
"I was just-"
"I don't care what you were doing. Cut it out. You never did it before, you're being nice to get back into my good books and it isn't going to work." Everyone awkwardly continued to eat, but Sanji pursed his lips and Nani nodded slightly. They'd noticed it too.
"Well fuck me for trying to be nice, I guess." He murdered, filling his own glass instead of your own like he'd intended.
"Yes! Exactly! Stop trying to make it up to me! You can't! There's no version of this where you fix it, and we go back to before! I meant it, we're done. Give up." You told him, then took your plate and glass and left the kitchen entirely so you could eat somewhere else and calm down.
"I was the bad guy for doing nothing, now I'm the bad guy for trying to do something. I can't win!" Zoro complained in your absence, and Nami rolled her eyes.
"It doesn't matter what you do now, Zoro," Robin said, giving him a pitiful expression, "it's because you didn't do it before. In fact, you only trying now that you've lost probably hurts more than you doing nothing."
He'd ruined it, it was irreversible, and he'd not even noticed he was doing it.

Your Love, For Me
A request from @akagami-no-laney for my 200 followers event
Find the 200 followers event here!
Content/Warnings: Hongo/F!Reader, shy!reader, fluff, established relationship, jealous!reader, inspired by Lay All Your Love On Me by ABBA
You'd never been someone that was prone to jealousy. What was the point in it, really? Being jealous didn't change anything about a situation, and it was more likely to create an issue between partners than do anything good. You thought it was all a bit ridiculous really. Then you started dating Hongo.
Things changed just a little.
You hated feeling jealous, even worse feeling possessive. Hongo was yours though, your boyfriend, your partner, your lover. Yours. These ridiculous women with their flirtatious jokes and horrific pickup lines just didn't seem to understand how uninterested he was.
The longer the two of you were together, the more you and your understanding of yourself seemed to shift. You weren't entirely sure that you were comfortable with it, but if that was the cost of being with Hongo then you were willing to withstand it.
It'd been easy for him to make you fall for him, too easy really - it was almost embarrassing. You were a grown woman, you'd met many men in your life, but the truth was just that none of them compared to Hongo. He had you hooked from the very beginning, without even trying, and you were helpless to do anything but fall for him. Not that you'd tried to stop it. No man had been able to do that to you before. He made you incredibly shy, which generally speaking wasn't abnormal for you, but Hongo in particular just made it so much worse. You were honestly a little in awe of him.
"What you thinkin' of, honey?" Hongo asked, smirking at you from his seat beside you, chin in his hand. "Huh?" You asked dumbly, face heating as you realised that you'd have to admit you were thinking about him if you wanted to tell the truth. "You weren't thinkin' of me were you? All appropriate thoughts, I hope?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows, and you reached out to shove him playfully, not willing to respond to his teasing.
As much as you often withered under his attention, and he made you embarrassed of what a school girl you'd become because of him, you couldn't help loving him, and hoping that he loved you too. You weren't sure what you'd do if he didn't - probably be a little hopeless.
"Can I get a kiss?" He asked softly, reaching out to gently take your hand in his own, and with your heart fluttering and stomach twisting, you leaned in closer to accept the offered kiss, never able to deny Hongo, nor yourself.

– Coby with the 1° genre, prompt (Z.) ✨
Koby is a character that I've never written for, and he's not the only new character lined up! I'm loving these low pressure opportunities to try writing for characters I haven't had a chance to before
Find the prompt list here
Content/Warnings: Koby/GN!Reader, fluff, reader is a pirate, talking about dreams, characters are re-meeting
You and Koby had met long before he'd been a marine. Back when he'd been nothing but Alvida's choreboy, her crew had stopped on your island, and you'd run into him by chance while sneaking a look at the huge ship at the docks. You weren't sure yet what you wanted to do with your life, but her ship was awesome. Koby had tossed some dirty water over the side of the ship, and you'd waved at him excitedly. He'd been skeptical at best.
The two of you had chatted for at least an hour while Alvida terrorised the locals of your town, and you liked him a lot. Koby was kind, and shy, and gentle. You liked that in guys. He told you that he wanted to be a marine, even if it felt silly. You told him that you didn't like marines all that much, they'd been mean to your town before, but maybe he could be a good marine. You explained that you weren't sure what you wanted to be yet, what your dream was, but you liked people who were strong. You wanted to be strong. Koby, albeit hesitantly, pointed out that pirates are strong. You agreed. That night, you'd dreamt of being a pirate, on a ship with a crew.
When you met Koby again, it was in another small village on a small island, just like the one where you'd grown up. You'd not recognised him at first, nor did he recognise you. It was a member of your crew, and one of his subordinates, calling both your names that made you both double take.
You dealt with your issue, and he dealt with his. Finally, once you were alone, the two of you rushed together and embraced.
"You're a marine!" You said excitedly, running your fingers over the fabric of his jacket, admiring it.
"You're a pirate." He acknowledged with a smile, though you could see he was slightly disappointed.
"You look so different." You said, looking up at Koby's face to meet his eyes.
"You look just the same."
"You really did it. You got away from Alvida, and now you're a marine. Damn Koby." You couldn't help a small laugh, which sounded just a little disbelieving.
"You got out of your small town, and traded it for strength, just like you said you would. I'm so proud of you." Koby replied, and you couldn't help the warmth that flooded your body from his words. He was handsome, and saying things like that didn't help the small flutter of your heart. But you weren't stupid enough to try anything with a marine.
"Right back at you."
There was a brief pause where you both just looked into each other's eyes, neither of you willing to make the first move toward anything more and risk your livelihoods. A marine called out for Koby and it snapped both of you out of your thoughts.
"And that's our time cut short. It was so great to see you again." He told you, taking one reluctant step back.
"I'm sure I'll see you again. The ocean is only so big." You said, and he nodded, grinning at you. After just a moment more of hesitation, Koby turned and jogged away to head off to wherever he was needed, and you were left staring at the spot where he'd been.
Captain Koby.

Law with the 3° genre, prompt (y.)
Since there's no specification, I'm pairing Law up with a gender neutral reader
Find the prompt list here
Content/Warnings: Law/GN!Reader, hurt/no comfort, break up, reader decides to leave the crew
If you had to hear one more stupid word from his stupid mouth, you were going to lose your mind. Breaking up with Law while underwater in the Polar Tang, still days away from your next island, may have been a bit of a mistake but you just couldn't do it anymore. You couldn't keep pretending. It had to end. Everything was tense, and uncomfortable, if he entered the room you immediately left, and the other crew members were struggling with the discomfort. Not one of them tried to criticise you though, they sympathised.
Law did not seem to understand how serious you were, though.
He went out of his way to seek you out, searching for you when you had downtime to try to speak to you. You avoided him at all costs, often walking away while he followed you, ignoring every word that he said. If he did it again, you were going to develop a serious violence issue.
You were sitting quietly in the kitchen, reading a book, and enjoying just being alone for a while. There was a lot you needed to organise, and you needed silence to do it. Feelings to sort through, things to plan, and decisions to be made. You'd already moved all your things from Law's room back into the crew's room, and you were sleeping in your old bed again - still alone, but at least now it was by choice.
That was why you'd split up with Law, you couldn't deal with the way he treated you anymore.
He was never around, always prioritising work over you and even yourself. It was one thing for him to put the crew before you, because you understood that - he was a Captain, that was his job - but to even neglect himself to the point where he was snapping at you and other crew members; making poor decisions; missing all his time with the people he claimed were his friends.. you weren't willing to put up with it anymore. You couldn't date a man who had all these responsibilities when he couldn't take care of himself.
Did you even want him as your Captain?
Hence, things to think about.
Law walked into the room, and for the first time in several days, you didn't leave. You were capable of ignoring him while he puttered around to finally feed himself, you were reading a good book. Instead of doing that though, he sat in the chair beside yours, and just stared at you. It was hard to concentrate on you book when he was staring at you so intently but you kept your eyes on the page, refusing to bend to whatever he was trying to do.
"Since you're finally done running, I want to talk about us." He said eventually, and you sighed, slamming your book closed. "There is no us Law, get that into your thick skull." You hissed, standing up from your chair to leave again, retreating to another quiet room to gather your thoughts. "Why aren't you even willing to hear me out? You'd think I'd hit you!" He yelled, and you froze. "Why? Because you act like you have no interest in yourself, never mind me! We barely spent any time together, and when we did half of it was me forcing you to look after yourself and the other half was you being grumpy or mean because you can't do that for yourself! I'm done with it Law! Grow up a little - then come back and talk to me." You'd turned back to face him, eyes wild, chest rising and falling rapidly with your anger. Law stared back at you, mouth hanging slightly open, understanding finally dawning on him.
"I'm not getting back on the Polar Tang after this island. I'll find my own way - I don't want you as my Captain anymore."

It wasn't often that you got so much time with your lover. He was a doctor, and a damn good one at that, which meant a lot of hours spent at the hospital instead of with you. His long shifts exhausted him, and left you alone - but it was okay. Hongo was doing what he loved, and you valued your time with him even more because of how limited it could be. He still made an effort not to miss important things, he was doing his best and that was all you could ask for when he had such an important job to do.
Today, however, was your anniversary. He'd taken some time off work, several days in a row, so he could spoil you. You'd spent the first day relaxing at home before going out to a nice restaurant in the evening. You'd put on a nice dress that had been gathering dust in your closet for ages, and had gotten dolled up perfectly. When you'd gotten home, he'd spent hours taking you apart late into the night.
The next day you'd slept in late, and ordered lunch to the house so you could eat in bed. Then, you'd lay in bed watching movies for the majority of the day, just cuddled up and spending more time focused on each other than on the screen.
Now, you were being tortured. You loved Hongo dearly, but the moment he let his guard down you were going to destroy him. He would regret inflicting this on you.
"Stop!" You yelled, uncontrollable laughter falling from your lips. "What was that?" Hongo asked with a shit eating grin, pausing for a moment to let you catch your breath before continuing to tickle you. You were too busy flailing to physically stop him. "Hongo-" you wheezed out, still cackling, your sides beginning to hurt from laughter. "Beg for it baby." He said, pausing briefly once again. You took advantage of his stopping to surge forward and press your lips against his, distracting him.
You separated for a moment, Hongo having almost forgotten about what he was doing. You kissed up his jaw and to his ear, then paused there to whisper, "Please sir."

– Reiju with the 2° genre, prompt (f.) 🪼✨
I love Reiju. I love all the Vinsmokes actually, but Reiju and Niji are top tier I love them dearly. This is also SUCH an interesting prompt for her and I think this'll be good fun
I don't generally see Reiju ending up in a situation like this in canon, so take some Modern AU ✨
Content/Warnings: Reiju/GN!Reader, modern AU, hurt/comfort, getting together, rivals/enemies to lovers, Reiju's partner (not reader) is abusive and threatens suicide (you only hear Reiju's response to this)
You and Reiju had never gotten along. You worked in Germa's lab, specifically working in Reiju's department. Three of the departments were headed by Judge's children, and you worked in chemical engineering, one rank below Reiju. She was a menace. She did her job well, you couldn't deny that, but she loved causing trouble far more than working.
Often, during the day, she'd leave her station to wander around the lab and usually find you, propping herself up against your station just to watch. She'd remain there, silent, just observing. At first it'd been off putting but you'd become used to it over time. Occasionally she'd make comments, sometimes about your work but more frequently about you.
"Still single?" "Interesting outfit choice." "Is that.. a new cologne? It's.. bold." "Your car looks worse for wear, I'm sure father pays you enough to do something about that." "Are your shoes definitely lab safe? They look like they're about to fall apart."
Insult after insult. She'd comment on your lack of money, your possession of only the most basic necessities, your lack of social life outside of work. You were lacking in everything she had an abundance of and she just had to point it out. For a long while you were even on only one thing: neither of you had a partner. So, you could bite back.
"Still single?" "Same as you I'd wager, with that attitude." Until one day it didn't work. "Best pay up then, because we made it official last night." And now she had everything to lord over you. You didn't much care for whoever her new partner was. She didn't tell and you didn't ask. The two of you just didn't get along and you didn't think you ever would.
You hadn't realised things were changing for at least a few weeks. Reiju began to bother you less, and you'd been so busy working that you hadn't really noticed. But then it'd been days since she'd so much as visited your station, and it felt strange. You were unsettled by it. Sure, she'd been a bother, but it was your routine and you were confused by the shift. The issue was you couldn't ask why, she'd accuse you of having a crush on her or being needy, and even if she didn't you weren't friends, you didn't care. It was pure curiosity. So you didn't ask.
Your productivity increased with Reiju minding her own business at her own station, but so did your boredom. You almost came to miss her presence. Yes, she'd been insulting you, but she'd never made comments on your character or elements of your appearance that were unchangeable. It'd almost been fun before she'd stopped, once you'd adjusted to it and come to expect it.
Then, one day made everything change again.
Reiju was late. She was never late, but she was the daughter of the CEO so you knew she wouldn't be reprimanded. She'd dropped down heavily into her station, head in hands, and her phone began to vibrate. Then it stopped. Then it started again. Then it stopped. Then it started again. Reiju then moved with a grunt and the vibrations stopped - on silent you figured. You didn't ask.
The next day, she didn't seem like herself. More subdued. Her phone rang frequently through the day and sometimes she'd slip away to answer it, before returning slowly to her work.
That continued for a week, and then another, and then another. Reiju was far from being your friend but clearly something was wrong and if nobody else was going to ask her about it or make sure that she was okay, then you supposed that was your job.
That day, she was very late, having already missed half the day. Her phone rang within the first few minutes, and this time she answered from inside the lab, the others still out on lunch. Only you and Reiju were in the room.
"I'm not dealing with your bullshit today!" She roared, "I've missed half my damn work day and I've only just arrived you have no reason to be calling! I don't care that you're anxious - I come to work every day and come home just the same! Stop using that stupid excuse!" You sat at your own station, silent, minding your business as much as you could with her yelling like that.
"Dad is threatening to lower my salary, and move me to a different department because I've been working so badly! You know why that is? Because of you! You make me late every day, crying that I'm leaving you whenever I try to go to work! You call me every fifteen minutes to make sure I'm "being faithful" when you know I'm at work cause you have my fucking location!" You hadn't realised just how bad it'd become.
"I'm hanging up now and I'm turning off my phone."
"Do it then! Kill yourself! I'll ring the police when I hang up and they can come check on you!" There was a brief silence and then rather than turning off her phone Reiju tossed it across the room with all her strength, causing it to smash on impact. She took some deep heaving breaths and collapsed into her chair. You'd expected her to cry, but she didn't, just sat there staring.
You waited for a few minutes before approaching her station and leaning up against the surface, like she used to do to you.
"Hope you can afford a new one." You commented, nodding in the direction of her now broken phone. "I'm not in the mood." She mumbled, rubbing her hands over her face with a sigh. "I've let you off the hook for too long. Come on, dish some back. Might help you feel better." You insisted, and Reiju glanced up at you with an angry expression but tears brimming in her eyes. "Seriously I'm not in the mood today." She said, clearly barely holding on to her composure. "Your partner is an asshole. Hell, I could treat you better than that, and we hate each other." You said with a sigh, hesitating for a moment because 1. What the fuck was that and 2. What were you supposed to say next? Thankfully, Reiju huffed a soft laugh. "I know." Her voice was just a whisper, still desperately trying to hold on to her composure. "Want some help with catching up on work? Hopefully we can avoid that salary decrease." You offered, nudging her gently, and Reiju just nodded - both of you were more than relieved to be back in normal, safe conversation territory. You spent the rest of the day sitting at her station, working together side by side. You were ahead on your work anyway, you could afford to spend a day helping her out.
-·–·-–-·–·-
Things with Reiju changed after that. A few days after the incident she confirmed that she'd split up with her partner, and both your dating lives were off the table for joking about for a while. You returned mostly to normal, but your joking shifted from mean to friendly, even if they were still jabs at each other. You more often worked together on things, making up for each other's lackings and therefore both worked faster and better. You even got a raise.
It was what seemed like another normal day when Reiju approached you in the break room.
"I have a confession." She said the moment she sat down. "Hello to you too, Reiju. I'm having a good day, how's yours?" You replied with a raised brow and a small smirk. "Shut up I had to work up the nerve to do this and I just need to say it." Reiju said, and you just nodded for her to continue, not making any further comments. "I'm really glad we're getting along now but.. I was never insulting you to begin with. I've never really had friends and I struggle with what to say. I was trying to be nice, and interested in your life," already, your life was turning upside down and she wasn't finished, "and I wanted you, the whole time. I got with my ex because you didn't want me. I thought it'd make you jealous or something, that's the last time I'll take advice from Yonji." The two of you sat there for a long while just looking at each other, you bewildered and her slightly embarrassed.
"That's.. a lot to take in." Reiju just nodded. "You don't need to say anything back. I just wanted you to know." She shuffled a little, uncharacteristically nervous, and after a moment made to stand. You reached out and took her wrist in your hand, which stopped her for just a moment. You knew you needed to do something, so you let your impulses take over and you leaned in and pressed your lips together in a quick kiss.
The two of you separated, both surprised by what had just happened.
"You have weekends off too, right?" You asked, and Reiju nodded, visibly swallowing hard, a pink flush on her cheeks, "Saturday, be ready at eight. Wear something nice."
