I did manage to (mostly) catch up for Harvest Close, just couldn't watch yesterday because work. And though I don't think this little arc is quite done, from wrapping up the High Richter quest to about when the Nein leave Zadash, still wanted to offer some thoughts because the party pulls off a surprising amount of development in this small section of episodes.
No particularly coherent thoughts on the Beacon heist other than the fact that they've never pulled off anything so smoothly since. Jester, Caleb, and Nott swiped a legendary artifact of cosmic power and importance right out of the Crownsguard's hands, on full alert and in full view of a crowd, and didn't break a sweat [insert Mission Status: Sick meme].
I feel like the Scrollgate talk maybe opened some gates for this party, because from what I can tell, Nott laying some of her cards on the table about how she feels about her place in the party and what her and Caleb's relationship is would be the first time any of them actually opened up about something emotional and important to them rather than trying to deflect (Jester's a bit of an exception, but that's expected), and after this it's a bit like the dominoes got tipped over: Molly tells the truth about his past, Fjord tells them about his difficult childhood issues and his struggles with how he's perceived by himself and others, Beau doesn't go into a lot of detail but she's not really hiding the fact that her childhood was neither simple nor happy anymore, and though this hasn't come up quite yet, Caleb comes out about His Whole Thing. It helps that Matt seemed more than happy to needle them with backstory shit almost non-stop during this stretch: Cree's appearance, more Uk'otoa dreams, Trent Ikithon's first appearances at the Zauber Spire attack and Victory Pit, and of course the Gentleman, though that one initially goes over their heads. The timing of it all is great, since after this arc the Nein get back on the road again, but now they (and the audience) are leaving with more context for both each other and the world, perfect jumping-off points for building a fantastic story. The Zadash arc is a load-bearing beam for C2 and I stand by that.
Speaking of Scrollgate, rewatches have only cemented, if not deepened, how annoyed I am by Molly and his attitude toward Nott during this stretch of episodes, both in a "this behavior irritates me" way and a "I'm so mad I'll never know" way. Molly always seemed particularly antagonistic/condescending toward Nott in particular for reasons I've never fully been able to parse. I understand it in a tragically ironic way when he's talking about his past; her insistence that the past matters even if he doesn't want it to could be seen as dismissive of his feelings, and he had no way of knowing how similar and yet opposite they were in their experiences, so him snapping at her makes sense. However, the way he talks to her after Scrollgate, repeated dismissal of her intelligence and experience, and generally dogging her for no reason a lot of the time, it has always pissed me off because I really don't know where it's coming from. Sure she's shady at times, but so is Caleb and Molly doesn't go after him nearly as hard, and sure she's weird, but Molly brags about the circus being weird all the time. If I had to guess, I'd say that maybe Molly was banking on initial impressions of her being very young, and despite his own shortage of experience he saw her as someone he could sort of mold into his way of doing things (ie: the circus). Then she proved more independent-minded than initial impressions and refused to toe the line, and since all Taliesin characters share the flaw of thinking they're the smartest person in the room whether that's true or not, Nott constantly questioning him and poking holes in the logic and ethos he built up over his two years of life got under his skin. That's just speculation though, and since Molly died I'll never know for sure, nor will I ever find out how he would have reacted to the entirety of Veth's story and the ways in which they were similar. It'll drive me crazy til my dying day.
Conversely, every time through the Zadash arc makes me like Fjord more and more. I mean, I always liked him, but the appreciation deepens. He always seems to be putting in the work to make this group functional and is generally doing the best at it. Caleb and Nott are trying but have to balance their insularity and personal goals, Beau means well but struggles to explain her legit points without sounding like an asshole, and Molly says he wants the group to work but has specific ideas of what that should look like and doesn't take refutations of those ideas well. Fjord meanwhile genuinely seems to listen and try to find a balance that works for everyone, and even if he doesn't have the right impression at first (Nott correcting him about her relationship with Caleb), he's happy to reevaluate and meet people where they're at. Even after Scrollgate, where Fjord admits his need for control got the better of him, he jumps right in to make sure they all get out safely and tries to pull the group back into cohesion. No wonder he got elected unofficial party leader.
C2 was really cooking with the majority of its dungeon crawls, even the short ones. Siff Duthar's research lab was basically a single puzzle and a boss + adds, but the atmosphere and imagery were so palpable, and the dread history of the Calamity is just hovering over everything like a shadow. Retrospective context from the Calamity trilogy and everything we've learned since only serves to make it cooler and spookier, turning the little snippet we get into this guy's life into a short form horror where we can more than fill in the blanks ourselves. Chef's kiss, the Calamity continues to do wonders for Exandria's flavor and worldbuilding.
And now, HARVEST CLOSE! I'm not sure where it sits in the top 15 or so episodes of C2 for me, but it's in there somewhere.

20250308 Major ALICE update!
For a couple months i've been working on a bunch of new stuff and improvements for Aubery's Logic Integrated Circuit Emulator (ALICE), and yesterday i concluded the works that have been planned! I am very happy to tell everyone that ALICE now crashes much less, the circuit tracing GUI became much more usable, and even more high-level devices were programmed!~
Circuit integration now works in full - watch me go from a basic logic gate based single-bit full adder to a 4-bit adder IC with a whole demo setup to test it, inside the same project!
Some high-level devices were added: everything but the ALU seems to be working correctly. TruthTable allows you to build a circuit and then compose its truth table in realtime! Using the pre-made compounds can be easier on the CPU than user-made ICs, even though i'm working on making everything run even faster. Oh, and now there's a "text" device to leave notes right on top of the circuit!
All devices now show a memo on what they do when selected, and a cohesive (although still and forever lacking) manual was started!
Finally, there are now demo projects! They and the manual are bundled within ALICE itself, so no need to download them separately from anywhere. I will work on adding more to them, with the general goal of one day having a "full basic 8-bit CPU" on the list!
Aside from these novelties, i worked real hard and made the GUI run smoother and explode less. Frankly, the code was pure spaghetti before this overhaul, and now it's at least meatballs with a side of spaghetti. It became better, i promise. Along with this, a bunch of minor bugs were eliminated, and i'm slowly ridding the project from depending on my old bmco.js utility library, which would make it run smoother.
There's a lot of plans for this project, and seeing people using it at all would greatly increase my motivation to implement them. Not like i am not motivated.. but you could make things happen faster! So! Use the thing, tell me when it explodes in your face - with saves and bug error texts preferrably - and show me what you made with it!
And one last thing: ALICE is now hosted on Gitea because i am tired of github's copilot bullshit. I will shut down the github repository soon enough -- nothing to lose, since there are no open issues out there or anything. If you feel like digging through my caverns of nonsense, or run ALICE locally, go ahead and download the source code from the Gitea repo!

Part One. Part Two. Part Three.
“That wife of yours has been sneaking around with my brother. Breaking more hearts than just yours from what I can see.”
“I suppose some people just can’t see the worthiness of the king in front of them. If I were your wife, I wouldn’t be like Y/n. I’d be committed you and never give you fib tales like her.”
“You are aware that Y/n has been plotting something nefarious against you, aren’t you?”
“I know you wanted to marry someone just as sinister as you, but perhaps you should’ve checked where her loyalty lied before tying that knot.”
Aurora fed him stories such as these, and many more, each conclusion of the lies spewing from her mouth something appalling about Y/n. At first, Klaus didn’t listen, but as her stories grew worse and worse, the faux feeling of treachery intensified. He knew it was unwise to believe anything that came from the spiteful, jealous woman...yet, his distress caused pain to strike his heart and he yearned to know the truth.
Although, in this case, the “truth” wasn’t actually very truthful.
She often told him things like that Lucien was going after his girl for the second time, first with her when she had her chance and now, his beloved wife. Klaus merely brushed it off with an honest “he tries and I’ll stake him first chance I get”. However, Aurora wasn’t finished yet. She continued to lie and deceive Niklaus about the woman who she accused of replacing her in his life. The envy and loathing Aurora felt for Y/n was her motivator, but the woman was too far up a wall to need one in the first place.
“Are you telling me the truth?” He growled, keeping his eyes trained at the wall in front of them.
“Why do you ask?”
“I need to know I can trust your bold claims. So answer me, Aurora, are you telling me the truth?”
That smug little grin, masking her deluding ways. “Of course, Nik. I would never lie to you.” Her welcome into his trust was unsurprisingly taken advantage of when she traced her finger down his arm and then brought her hand up his abdomen slowly. Klaus shoved her invasive hand off of his chest though, giving her a warning glare.
“Thank you for informing me.” That was all he said to her before he made his way out of the room in the most hurry she’d ever seen him in.
Aurora smiled conceitedly. Her plans were on the right track. Whilst Nik didn’t have the same feelings for her now as he did way back during the beginning of their story, but Aurora was determined to stir those feelings from the dead as vampirism did him and her.
She drawled under her breath, “I will have you again, Nik.” her mischievous smile grew wider, “I will have you again, and nothing can stop me this time.”
“Blasphemy!” Niklaus shouted, veins popping out from the rage coursing in his system. He neared Y/n again, the slight fear in her eyes drawing a pause for a second, guilt stilling him, but his anger took the reigns once more.
“It’s not blasphemy! I would never lie to you!”
“The falsity of your deception proves otherwise, love.” He smirked, raising his brows as to question if she would battle his words yet again. Proof was what he needed, but his vexation had drowned out all logic, including his ability to see the proof he wanted so desperately.
“What deception? What falsehood do you believe to have come from my mouth? When I married you, I vowed to be truthful and loyal. You of all people on this fucking earth should know I always keep a vow.” She narrowed her eyes at him. The betrayal he thought he felt was temporary and fabricated, but hers was 100% genuine and seething within her.
“You say that but if you were indeed an untrue person, your answer would be no different.”
“Why do you insist on proving me a traitor!? What has pushed you so far past your breaking point that you actually accuse me, your wife, as a viper?”
“Don’t you pretend like you don’t know the malicious schemes you’ve plotted against me or the affairs you’ve had with men who obviously aren’t your husband!” He couldn’t stop himself now; “I’ve loved you for centuries and you decide to be disloyal and ill-natured?!”
“Says who?!”
“Says Aurora!” After the words flew from his mouth, a tiny part of him realized just how fucked up it sounded. Just how fucked up it was that he believed her over his wife, but the hybrid was stubborn. He was too stubborn to change his belief or admit his fallacious accusations were unjust without proper evidence.
Y/n knew Aurora and Klaus’ story. Her knowledge of the ancient and long forgotten tale made her reaction thousands of times worse. “Aurora? ...Huh. You choose to believe her- that manipulative, lying bitch, over me? I thought you knew me better than that.” She wiped away a rebellious tear, “I thought I knew you better than that.”
Disappointment hung heavy on her features, drawing a feeling of shame from Klaus. Y/n glared at him one last time, her knitted brows and vaguely teary eyes evidence of the heavy-heartedness that overwhelmed her. She bit the inside of her mouth and shook her head disapprovingly before turning and walking out the front gate-doors of the Mikaelson mansion. Klaus was alone.
The sounds of Davina’s giggles echoed, Cami sitting in front of her and chuckling heartfully as well. Their laughter died off when they noticed Y/n sulking through the front doors of Rousseau's. The place was empty aside from the two women having drinks and a friendly chat. Then Y/n entered and found a seat. The atmosphere, once cheery, suddenly felt melancholy.
“Hey, Y/n, you alright?” Camille’s smile was wiped from her lips. She felt empathy for Klaus’ wife and, as a friendly person in general, she felt overcome with the need to help solve the complication that made her feel so down in the dumps.
“I’m-” She was ready to say fine, Davina and Cami knew it, but she broke down in tears before she could even shape an “o” with her lips. Both women jumped up immediately and sat in the seats beside Y/n. Though Davina couldn’t stand Klaus, she actually liked Y/n and seeing her hurt sent searing pain into her own heart.
“It’s okay, hun,” Cami wrapped an arm over Y/n’s shoulder, her other hand rubbing her other shoulder and arm comfortingly, “take as long as you need, there’s no pressure, no rush, none of that. We’ve got you.”
And so they did. The two women took turns holding Y/n as she cried, and before long, she was ready to talk. She explained Klaus’ anger and the source of their fight, the source of the fake news he’d lashed out because of. Davina and Cami shared a glance when Aurora was mentioned, both women already hating her but equally despising her even more now. Y/n sobbed, crying into Cami’s shoulder about wanting Klaus to just believe her. She said she loved him and because of that, she felt pained by his lack of belief in her.
“He’s not worth it if he can’t see how wrong that decision was-”
“I know, but he’s my husband. I vowed to love him always and forever, to never leave his side, and I intend to keep that vow...so long as he doesn’t do anything to fuck it up any more than he already has.”
The sun began to sink into the dark, not fully quite yet, but still creating it’s beautiful array of colors as a final act before disappearing for the night. About halfway through Y/n’s rant, Cami called Hayley and gave her a summary of what she knew so far. A promise of arriving as soon as she could was returned on Hayley’s end before the line went dead and Cami returned to the table.
Still not entirely after sunset yet, Hayley swung open the door to Rousseau's, catching Davina and Y/n off guard. Despite being the one who called her, Cami stayed seated. Y/n and the witch beside her exchanged confused expressions.
“Are you just gonna sit there or are you gonna tell me what the hell I need to do to Klaus?”
Y/n chuckled softly, wiping away more of the salty tears, before standing and walking over to Hayley, greeting her with a hug. “You don’t have to get involved if you don’t want to-”
“No, trust me, I have to and I want to.” She pulled away and dropped her warm smile, giving Y/n the most serious look she could muster. And as she was Hayley Marshall, it was effortlessly pretty fucking serious. “Now, I want you tell me everything,” the mom voice came out to play, “don’t leave a single detail out. Then, we can discuss what we’re going to do about it.”
“Where is he?”
Rebekah had been informed by the pissed off werewolf and bartender everything that had happened, resulting in her becoming equally upset. She welcomed Hayley inside the gates and nodded her head up the stairs. “I haven’t said anything to him, so you’ll be lucky enough to catch him by surprise.”
The werewolf nodded in understanding before pacing toward the stairs irritability. “Thanks.”
“Make it hurt!” Rebekah’s voice faded away as she walked out the gates, leaving Hayley alone to find Niklaus.
Atop the stairs, she found no sign of anyone whatsoever, but that was only on the outside. If Klaus happened to be inside on of the many rooms, she wouldn’t waste her time searching. Instead, she waited, leaning against the railing and doing a breathing exercise Y/n taught her during one lonely full-moon.
After minutes of waiting, Klaus finally walked out of a door and started for the stairs. It wasn’t longer than a minute before he stopped in his tracks and realized he’d missed something. He shot a double take in Hayley’s direction, a puzzled expression quickly finding way to his face. It seemed as though he was contemplating whether or not her unexpected appearance was a good thing or a bad thing.
When he seemingly couldn’t make up his mind, staring a few minutes longer, a heavy sigh left her mouth. She was ticked off with him before, but after hearing everything Y/n had to say, she was furious. No, more than furious. The blood boiling rage was incessantly pounding in her head, all she wanted was cause destruction and pain. A rare thing for her.
But now was not the time to lash out, not yet. She inhaled and exhaled, Hayley shifted on her feet and looked around before turning her head to Klaus and beckoned him over to her with a come-hither motion of her index finger.
“What is it?”
She looked at him, flabbergasted that he’d even ask a question as stupid as that, “What is it? What is it, Klaus?” Hayley slapped him, the man doubling back and blinking in astonishment. And not the good kind.
“How dare you lay your hands on me, you-”
“So you’re gonna yell at me now?” She crossed her arms, and unimpressed look resting upon her face. “You know, personally, I think Y/n is better off without you but she’s broken and has been bawling her eyes out nonstop for hours on end, drinking away all the pain that you’ve formed into a stake and shoved into her chest.”
He stopped, fury fleeing his face as he experienced what felt like her words body-slamming into him.
“And guess who’s been there to pick out the splinters?” She poked her finger against her chest over and over again. “Me!” Her eyes never left his, telling him just how sincere about this she really was. “Me! Cami- even Davina!” Hayley threw her hands in the air, emphasizing the shock that came with the information. “Rebekah’s on her way over now, and I’m sure Elijah will see to it that he comforts his sister-in-law as much as he can, but you?”
“I-”
She cut him off, temper still unquenched, thirsty for vengeance. “Let me finish.” She growled. Hayley looked around the room in attempt to calm herself, but it was to no avail.
“You got her into this mess. I just hope you get both of you guys out of it.” She flicked her eyes back to his, giving him her infamous dead eyed glare. “I really hope you do. And you better do it soon. Because I won’t be there to pick the splinters out for you when she realizes she doesn’t need your sorry ass.”

Death of the Foolish
Summary: (Hermione x Female Reader) This was the life of Y/n after she was forced to break up with Hermione for reasons out of her control. But there really was no life after it.
Warning: Angst, Death, Blood
Words: 2172
A/N: This is for Emma (@idont-knowrn)and her 300 writing challenge! I’m really sorry that it’s late, I was quite slow on what I was signing up for. But I hope you love it and also congrats on 500, you deserve it!!
When it comes to the foolish, they tend to sacrifice everything in order to save the ones they love. The decisions often multiply in recklessness and impulsiveness, but it was all for the sake of their love ones. At least, that’s what Y/n tells herself as she sat in deep thought in the Great Hall. She didn’t hear the loud chatter about the upcoming Quidditch match beside her or the latest teen drama, what was louder was the Dark Lord’s task for her and Draco. It echoed so loudly and the only person she could even confide in was the same person she hated so much.
Across the Great Hall, sitting at the Slytherin table, was Draco. In the same position as Y/n, all he could think about was the deadly task placed upon him, to kill the greatest wizard known to wizard kind. What made it worse was the guilt of adding Y/n into the mix of his drama. She was the only person to have found out about the mark of the Dark Lord, all because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. To risk being exposed, he quickly spoke to his parents. It was Lucius’s idea to tell the Dark Lord. This quickly grew messy and complicated. Now with the threat of her parents’ life, Y/n was forced to become a death eater.
Both students had sunken faces, eyes lifeless of color, and with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Seeing as her next class was canceled, Y/n got up from her spot at the table and walked out the Great Hall. This only caught the attention of one person, Hermione.
She had excused herself from the table and walked in a hurried pace to catch up to Y/n. There were many questions replaying in the bright witch’s mind, and all can only be answered by Y/n. You see, Y/n and Hermione had recently broken up. It was strange as well as harsh. It certainly was unexpected on Hermione’s end since they were coming close to their third-year anniversary. One minute, the two were fine, next minute, Hermione had tears in her eyes as Y/n had broken up with her. Hermione was not given a single explanation for their separation and she was certain as hell to get it.
Turning right, Hermione saw you standing at the end of the hall. Not even caring how desperate she looked, Hermione ran up to you until you were a foot away. With a defeated voice Hermione called out, “Y/n.” At the sound of her voice, Y/n had tensed up, but was quick to reply with, “What do you want?” Y/n didn’t mean to be as harsh, but it needed to be done. Hermione was hurt to see Y/n not even bothering to turn around, but with still a lot of determination, she walked in front of her. “Why are you being like this?” Rolling her eyes, Y/n childishly turned around to avoid looking at Hermione. Rather than feeling hurt, Hermione grew frustrated and walked right back in front of Y/n.
“Stop acting like a child and talk to me.” Y/n’s eyes remained everywhere besides Hermione. “You know,” Hermione took a deep breath and shook her head, as if she was contemplating something. “You’re so bloody stubborn. It’s excruciating talking to you.”
Y/n was quick to fire back with, “Then stop talking to me.” Y/n started to walk away from Hermione, in the general direction of the Great Hall, but Hermione was just as stubborn as Y/n. She needed answers and she needed them now. Without much thought, Hermione grabbed Y/n by the shoulders and shoved her up against the wall. For the first time in while, Hermione locked eyes with Y/n and saw how empty they looked. It was like the color was drained and there was no soul behind those beautify eyes. It was obvious as night and day. Hermione’s thoughts only faltered for a little bit before saying, “Would you stop being such a bloody prick and tell me why we broke up? You gave me nothing and after everything we been through, I at least deserve that.” Hermione’s blood was boiling as her breathing sped up. “Did this relationship even mean anything to you?”
Y/n just stood there and took a good look at Hermione. She noticed the small eye bags appearing as well as the slight loss of color on her skin. She was a bit smaller, but not a lot of people would notice, but Y/n noticed. She noticed all the changes that happened to the girl she was very much in love with you. And all she wanted was to tell her the truth, but the less she knew, the better. Y/n grabbed Hermione’s hands and had ripped them off from her robes. She glanced towards her left and saw Draco leaving the Great Hall. It was time. Without any words, Y/n left Hermione standing there. And before she could walk out of ear shot, Hermione said, “No matter how many times you hurt me, I still somehow come back to you. But remember this, one day I will leave and will never come back. So, don’t bother chasing…I won’t ever let you back in.”
Y/n didn’t have time to focus on her heart breaking even more or the tears forcing their way into her eyes. She had to focus on other matters and had met Draco at the astronomy tower to deal with their task.
-Time Skip-
It was dark, night was falling in Malfoy Manor. As cold it was outside, it was nothing compared to the inside. There were fireplaces in amongst every room, but it didn’t matter. The manor felt icy cold, lifeless, and dark as those who lived in it. This was also the place Y/n happened to stay after the fall of Dumbledore. It wasn’t like she had many options to choose. Lucius had wanted to keep a close eye on the girl to make sure she didn’t ruin any of the Dark Lord’s plans. The Malfoy’s were already punished for Lucius actions and any good news he could bring to the Dark Lord, he would tremendously try.
Y/n was in of the many rooms, trying her best to distract her mind from the many thoughts it occupies when she heard new voices in the common room. She peaked around the corner and the sight made her blood turn cold. There she was, Hermione Granger in a place where she was never supposed to be. Hiding back in the hallway, Y/n murmured disagreements and lies as if this whole thing was fake, but when she looked again, there she was in the flesh.
Wracking up her brain, this was not part of the escape plan she had in mind. Everything was quickly going south and there was no time to think. She looked back again and saw that Peter was dragging the boys downstairs, leaving Hermione with Bellatrix. “That gives me time.”
Working her way around, Y/n called on the only person that was prepared to help. “Dobby, I need you now. Apparate to the cellar and help everybody escape. Leave Ron and Harry to me.” Y/n knew it was only seconds before Dobby could get the message. She made her way downstairs and saw Peter opening the gate. With a quick spell, Peter fell forward with no mobility at all. Before going down, she heard the terrifying screams that emerged from Hermione. And as much as she wanted to save her, she needed to be logical first.
Making her way downstairs, she was meant with two pairs of eyes that were filled with rage. With her wand up, Y/n said, “Upstairs. We don’t have much time.”
“Why should we listen to you?” Y/n hesitated and didn’t know quite what to say. The duo was given too many reasons now to doubt her, but she needed all of them to be safe. “You have no choice. Just do as I say.”
Slowly, they walked upstairs and made sure to stay out of view. Y/n saw Hermione laying on the floor, and it killed everything inside of her to know she was tortured. Her screams were already echoing in her mind. “I’ve had enough of this.” Ron walked out of cover and yelled, “Expelliarmus!” Harry reached in the air and caught Bellatrix’s wand.
“Stupefy!” Lucius flew back as Ron and Harry quickly fought against Draco and Narcissa. But it quickly ended at the sight of Hermione having a knife against her throat. “Drop your wands!” Ron and Harry looked at each other with desperation to get out.
“I said drop it!” The boys followed the command and dropped their wands. “Draco, pick up their wands.” Draco quickly followed orders and stood back. Y/n was still at the stairs and had yet to be seen. “It’s time to call the Dark Lord.” Bellatrix said with a heinous laugh following after it.
Lucius pulled up his sleeve revealing the mark of Dark Lord. Before he could call, Y/n whispered a spell, dropping the chandelier. The distraction had made Bellatrix jump out into safety as Hermione ran forward to Ron. Harry grabbed their wands from Draco’s hand without much of a fight from Draco. “Stupefy!” Once again, Lucius was sent back as the trio and Y/n stood next to each other.
“Stupid girl! You’ve could’ve hurt me.” The next thing they knew, Dobby was right behind them, ready to apparate the group out the manor. With one last cold look, Y/n said, “I wish I did.” Dobby then proceed to apparate the group to the designated location. But what they had failed to see was the knife that flew in with them.
Arriving at the beach, Y/n laid flatly on the sand. She could feel an aching feeling in her stomach and had tried to glance down, but that was proven to be difficult for the witch. A couple feet away was the trio and Dobby. They were having a small celebration, to finally be out the manor, when Dobby noticed Y/n.
Pulling on Harry’s clothes, the elf pointed at the injured girl that was quickly losing blood. Harry was about to run to her when Hermione was the first to break out of shock. She kneeled before the girl with tears already prickling her eyes. “Y/n?”
Y/n slightly moved her head in the direction of Hermione. Things were getting blurry, but she knew it was her. “You’re g-g-gonna be okay.” Hermione placed Y/n’s head on her lap as she yelled at Harry and Ron for her bag, but it was all faint mumbles to Y/n. The world around her was growing cold again when she was so close to being back with Hermione.
Knowing this was her end, Y/n reached out for Hermione’s hand. The small movement caught Hermione’s attention and she immediately locked hands with Y/n. The tears were already falling down as her lip quivered at the sight in front of her. Y/n was losing blood badly, something that needed professional help, which was nowhere for miles.
“I’m sorry Hermione.” While wiping her tears with her free hand, Hermione replied, “Please save your energy, we need to get you help.” No matter how smart Hermione was, there was no possible solution for this problem. “I-” Y/n was cut off with a severe cough, blood was trickling out her mouth. “You do mean everything…to me.”
“What?” Hermione looked at Y/n with a ridiculous look. “Stop talking non-sense, we need to find help.” Hermione gave a pleading look to Harry and Ron, but they knew much as well that Y/n’s life was coming to an end. Dobby stood beside Harry with tears falling.
“Please Hermione…please save my parents.” Still, Hermione was clueless to Y/n’s words. She didn’t even know that Y/n’s parents were in danger. “And Hermione…I still-” Y/n coughed up more blood and whispered her last words, “…love…you.”
In within a heartbeat, Y/n was gone from this world with Hermione clutching on to her body in hopes of getting her back. It took several tries from Ron and Harry before they agreed to bury her body close by. It was when Hermione took one last look at Y/n did she notice the large mark on her left forearm. And suddenly, everything clicked. All her questions, pleas, and mysteries were solved with just that mark. Hermione broke down again as Harry and Ron placed the sand on to Y/n’s body.
Hermione was the last one to leave when she said these final words, “I love you too.” And with no time to grieve, the trio were back to fighting the war. Y/n would always be on Hermione’s mind. And when they would win, Hermione would find ways to honor her first love’s name. And whenever she had those sad days, she would sometimes wish Y/n would try to come back in her life. For this time, she promised, she would let her back in.

Note
Honestly, I don't understand what some GA supporters, Gillovny haters and David haters, which I believe are mixed groups, against David and a friendship, albeit at a distance and occasionally with Gillian. At SM, the haters draw him as if he were the same arrogant actor who was portrayed in the 90s, who didn't have a friendly off-screen relationship with Gillian (hello, they are both very introverted and worked 17 hours together. How much could they handle this work overload? (to be continued..)
Are these followers afraid that GA is getting involved with a "rapist/misogynist", just because his have a relationship with a 27-years-old girl? Why did David write about incest is his last book? Why did he say that he wouldn't like to with Gillian on anything but The X Files? Why was he openly a sex addict? And this arguments being based entirely on facts and gossip from 15/20 /25 years ago?
People draw David as if he were a maniac who can attack Gillian at any time, and that she doesn't know his true nature, so he has a relationship. It's amazing how people make assumptions based on the past things and don't even bother to keep up with what they're doing today. And even worse: they think they can govern your personal lives. I saw it from Gillovnys in the past, and now i see it in these groups.
I read these anons earlier and spent some time thinking about your remarks and the larger implications of certain accusations and DD/GA’s relationship. This response way longer than I intended, but like I said, I spend some time thinking about your comments. And when I say it’s long, I mean it’s long.
Anti’s alleged issues with DD is a combination of things: misogyny, sexism, homophobia, pedophilia, and being friends with an alleged sex trafficker.
David has said some homophobic, misogynistic, and sexist remarks. It’s one of those things that, although a handful of people knew better, his views were “normal” back then. This isn’t to excuse David, but rather, provide context. Because there’s problematic shit and beliefs from 10 and even 5 years ago. The question I ask myself is: has David unpacked these beliefs? Is he learning and growing?
The fact that they have to dig into shit from the 90s to find shit on him says A LOT. Maybe he’s learned to keep those views to himself OR maybe he realized that some of his beliefs were fucked up and left them in the past. I’m not saying that no one can’t be upset about what he said or even dislike him now because of it. However, I don’t think people who genuinely dislike him are sending hate anons to people because they like him.
I really don’t like talking about the pedophilia and him “knowing” he’s friends with a sex trafficker accusations because, even when accusations are proven to be false, someone will believe there's truth to them. It taints a person and that's generally speaking. The reason I’m addressing them now and with you is because I want to be transparent about what’s going on with Antis and my issues with them. I don’t want to be accused of bias or protecting DD because I’m “hiding” the truth.
This man in Hollywood accused David of being sexually inappropriate with a minor who later became his wife. Apparently, this happened in David’s trailer during the original run of the X-Files and was well known on set. This revelation occurred during the Me Too era, like when accusations were hot and took just about everyone accused of impropriety down. For reference, Harvey Weinstein, a powerful producer with more money and influence, was taken down. Louis CK, well respected before his victims came out. Pre Me Too: Bill Cosby. Aziz Ansari. Hell, even some of the faces of the movement were taken down.
So, this Hollywood dude claimed on twitter that David was touching on a minor while at work and EVERYONE on set knew, but somehow this story never caught on. Virtually no media outlets picked this up. And this accusation is worse than the Aziz accusation and he was torn to shreds as his career took a hit. But David can be accused of this horrendous thing and no one reacts to it??? Apparently, he must have better lawyers than Harvey, Louis, etc because the rumors never even took flight. AND, I believe the thread is still up too. Not even crazed right wingers or pizza gate fanatics were interested in this story. However, since David is involved with a significantly younger woman this means that that rumor is true.
The thing is: there’s implications to this accusation that the antis didn’t think of and they got mad at me and others about it.
They said that Gillian hated David, didn't talk to him, and ignored him as much as she could because she knew about all of this. So, I asked, “If she knew David was a predator, why did she keep working with him? If you argue it was due to contract reasons, why did she work with him on IWTB and Seasons 10 and 11? Why didn’t she report him?”
Me and others were accused of holding women accountable for mens’ actions. But that still doesn’t answer the question, right? If Gillian hated David because he’s a predator, why did she still work with him? Her “hate” was supposed to be “proof” that he was morally corrupt. Since Gillian “hated” David, we’re supposed to hate David.
Another layer: David’s friends with a guy who allegedly is a sex trafficker, which to Antis mean that David knows and is okay with this. They’re friends, how could he not know???
This is important to note because they switch between Gillian knowing David is a “predator” and not knowing depending on the argument. So, when they swore up and down that she hated him, Gillian “knew.” Now that Gillian and David confirmed they are friends in some capacity, “just because she’s friends with him doesn’t mean she knows everything about him.”
Interesting, right?
They used examples of Harvey Weinstein and Ted Bundy to prove how someone can hide despicable acts after swearing up and down Gillian KNEW, which is why they weren’t friends. And, if you’re thinking...well what about David’s friend who allegedly is a sex trafficker, wouldn’t the same logic apply to him?
BINGO.
There are a million excuses and justifications when you apply their logic to Gillian, but they never give David the benefit of the doubt. They never critically examine any information they’re given if it paints David in a bad light. Then they put their heads in the sand if this info implicates Gillian. And the sad part is that I can go on a longer rant tearing their accusations apart.
There isn’t any consistency from Antis. I’d respect them if they’d dropped Gillian because she’s friends with the “predator” they hate. But no, their stance and justification changes so she's always in a good light.
You see how low they're willing to stoop to justify their hate. They aren’t content with disliking David, they need others to hate him too. They're too invested to admit they were wrong because then they’d have to face how foolish they looked hating David on the behalf of Gillian who doesn’t hate him at all. All that energy and hate for nothing.
Lastly, I genuinely do believe Antis are afraid that David and Gillian may be fucking or, at least, that casual fans will come to that conclusion. Think about it: who reacts like this to two people, who many thought hated each other, essentially announcing they are friends?
Who?
These are two adults with (an) adult kid(s). And they could literally become grandparents at any time. lol. These are two people who have known each other for damn near 30 years and Antis think they know David and Gillian better than they know each other.
But a simple photo got them rattled because they HAVE TO admit Gillian’s friends with David. She inadvertently put them in a corner and the only way out of it is to admit something they mocked others for believing. Their other options would fall into Gillovny thinking: they're fucking or dating.
And that’s what they’re really upset about.
They were left with options that fell into Gillovny thinking and had to choose the lesser of the evils. And they can’t say David and Gillian aren’t friends without looking delusional. Especially when they don’t have their handy dandy convenient excuses of “promo” for the x files or a charity. lol. Especially when they took a personal photo together and posted it online.
And I guess that’s the beauty of the picture: you’re only left with three options. Because, if you take friendship off the table, there is no other way to explain why David was there that doesn’t suggest them being intimately acquainted with each other.
I’ll say this: Antis don’t care about facts if the facts can’t be used as ammunition to shit on someone even if they have to distort it.
Now I know this is long and I’ve discussed things you didn’t intend, but I guess I needed this rant. LOL. Some Gillovnies and David fans may be upset that I discussed those topics, but most of the people on my blog either already heard about this OR have read me discuss it before.
Either way, Antis are hypocrites and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

What Comes First, Theory or Reality?
In the history of natural philosophy and in fact all philosophy and much academic work besides, there has been a strong tendency to create theory, whether this is Aristotle's Physics or even a topic like modern critical theory. In fact every university subject today is brimming with theory, and a churn of half baked theories continues; it is what drives academic careers. One can question this: Should there be theories for everything? Also, can we know if there is a valid theory for all topics? Can we even justify turning all this theorising into syllabus, and of course dogma, that is taught, read, and absorbed into our beliefs as part of the creative greater self?
There have been philosophers like Sir Karl Popper who held that knowledge wasn't proven, but theorised, and these theories were tested, if not falsified, then held as provisional pragmatic truths. But given that there is almost an infinity of theory and likely only one true minimal and complete description, it doesn't seem to me that Popper's approach would be very successful in finding a true description of the universe unless there was a pre-selection, a seeing of what is going on in order to select/build a theory. However, empirical observation relies on a theory of logical consistency, a theory of how the domain works, an analysis of objects in the field, the mindset of the observer, and a number of factors local to the experiment. So it becomes clear that most theorising is the process of adding layers of philosophical speculation to other philosophical speculation. Is all this theory a load of rubbish?
* * *
With empirical results there is often a repeatable observation, however with theory there is just the adding of layers, one on top of the other. If a single flaw exists then the tower is unsound. There is also a difference between the mathematical descriptions of physics and economics and the analysis of critical theory in literature studies or psychoanalysis. The mathematical sciences are more highly defined, with problems fitting to the world as described in blog 15, 'What Does It All Mean?', but interpretations are less of an issue. Other subjects have greater interpretation issues, for example finding it inexact when offering theories about theory about descriptions about interpretations. As a result, the theories morph according to things like political interest. An example of disagreement is a Marxist interpretation of counter revolutionary facts, like believing the CIA can drive history and economics single handed. This is less of a problem in physics, but still dogmas persist like the millenium long reign of Aristotle's physics, only punctured by the heroic efforts and experiments of free thinking giants like Galileo, Newton, and Einstein who rejected more theory than they created.
In the analytical philosophy tradition of the 20th Century there was a rejection of some theorising, particularly metaphysics, as it was argued it was meaningless because it had become detached from its empirical foundations. An aggressive form of empiricism became dominant in the UK. I see this historical debate as flawed on both sides (see blog 11: 'What Makes Us for Real?'), however it has asked some questions which are still important like:
1) How can we justify theories and theorising;
2) Does everything need theories;
3) Are more abstract theories like cultural theories valid like scientific ones, or are they pseudo-intellectual and meaningless;
4) Is it possible to create grand narratives from systematizing theory or are they all just local and observable?
I have previously touched on a number of these themes, but we will briefly try to answer these questions here with reference to the previous blogs as a conclusion to our endeavours that will help you understand and argue with people who want to inflict a grand narrative on you, or their value judgements, as is often the case in education, religion, politics, debate, or even just the marketing of products promoting a way of doing things.
The first question, how can we justify theories, is another way of asking about justifying generalisations that we discussed in blog 5: 'Were You or Your Big Data Given to Generalising...?'. If we are making a generalisation, we are creating a simple theory that the world works in a particular way. The problem becomes a new problem when we extend the theory so that it changes from becoming a local theory, for example Napoleon was erratic, to becoming so wide and far from the evidence; for example Napoleon was an agent of the spirit of history that had manifested itself since creation (to slightly abuse Hegel). This proceeds to our second question, does everything need theories. For example, has Hegel's view of history been a positive influence, is it valid, is it false, can we tell the difference?
These questions lie within the last blog on religion, (blog 17: 'What Good Is Religion after the Lies?'); for if a theory is not a local scientific theory, given at the correct level of non-reduction (as mentioned in blog 8: 'Is AI & Science Stuck in an Unhelpful Reductionist Paradigm...?'), then the role of the theory must be religious. We have accepted that although grand narrative theories (or religious theories) may not or can not be proven or even correct, we need religion. So we need religious theory to provide us with a framework for our worldview, lives, and judgements.
This answers our third question, are abstract theories like religious ones meaningless. The answer to this is they define people, so even if you think square circles lay eggs on Tuesdays, this is still meaningful even though it doesn't apply to anything. Many theories may be pseudo-intellectual as, like religion, they can't be falsified, and this is the definition of pseudo-scientific provided by the Vienna Circle group of philosophers. Unlike the Vienna Circle, we can see this lack of falsifiability does not make the theory meaningless, but religious.
Religious or grand narrative theories can certainly be produced, in fact they are impossible to get rid of, but I would disagree with the claim they are scientific as part of the answer to the third question. Many theorists mistake their religious beliefs for scientific ones. particularly when they apply inappropriate scientific thought to areas out of scope in sphere confusions (as discussed in blog 1: 'A Little Understanding Has Big Implications'). I would define the opposite of Post-Atheism (discussed in the previous blog) to be Moral Totalitarianism, and this term applies equally to extreme religion as extreme politics like marxism, fascism, or absolute rule. There is a framework that defies justification in scientific terms, but still controls the narrative in participants through a grand narrative of a religious order.
So answering the fourth question, you can create positive impact grand narratives, although attempts to do so usually have a less good conclusion. There are some clear examples of dodgy narratives having positive effects: For example the US constitution making everyone equal before God and the law, when it is not clear that there is any true equality; but at least this helps rather than hinders justice, even if the laws themselves are sometimes highly prejudiced like the war on drugs. However, I do not think claiming equality before 'God' is a valid scientific claim. So while, like Hegel, it is possible to make grand claims, and for them to be meaningful, I don't think they are likely to be correct or justified in absolute terms.
* * *
We have an important branch of thought that is not scientific, but is rational and hyper real (see blog 11: 'What Makes Us for Real?'). It sits between mathematics, religion, science, and empirical description. I claim this whole archipelago, this whole continent, in the name of philosophy. You as philosophers shall find your kingdom here, and your hyper reality. You shall rule academies with your exciting theorising, your refining, analysing, and defining. Thinkers of all types will hang on your every word as you define their deepest prejudices.
* * *
The conclusion is passed, now we are in the post-note, the health warning; and we shall discuss the pratfalls of theory and philosophy that you need to avoid. There is the naive view that philosophers can be wrong, but we know this is usually not the biggest problem for theory. More dangerous is being confused; however the biggest existential threat is being illogical; but if you deny, defy, mould, and redefine your theory, selling it as you go, then you may hold onto it for generations until it becomes a permanent religious feature.
Being logical is not that hard, a simple guide to logic may help if it is unclear, but anyone with exposure to truth tables, computer code, electronics gates, will already be familiar with most of the useful content. To be useful with logic, you need a knack for good definitions; this comes with practice. An eye for synthesising arguments is a creative skill, like writing verse, but even your garbled thoughts can be clarified and will probably be seen as genius where there is a gap in the theory.
Now we will consider a topic of philosophy that was open to confusion in the past and even rejected from some of the philosophy canon, 'ontology' the way of existence. The aim of this exercise is for you to criticise the arguments and come up with your own bits of ontology. There will be some clues after this stack argument:
1) Properties are real
2) Causation is the actualisation of properties
3) Emergence is caused
4) The hyper real is emergent
5) Language is hyper real
6) Description is language
7) The impossible are descriptions
Therefore: 8) The impossible are real
So perhaps you like this argument? This argument is a good example of religious thinking as it takes arguments from across the blogs, but probably this is a distraction from how you define what is real. The argument is somewhat consistent (or circular as you might otherwise call it), especially if you leave out steps 2-6.
Of course every argument benefits from follow up arguments. So if you rejected the first step ('premise 1'), consider this:
1) Unused properties do not exist in the real
2) Scientific laws are mostly about unused properties
Therefore 3) Scientific laws mostly do not exist in reality
4) Properties are a thing's nature
5) A thing's nature exists
6) Scientific laws express a thing's properties
Therefore 7) Scientific laws exist
8) If a thing is contradictory, then it is impossible
Therefore 9) The existence of scientific laws is contradictory being both true and false
Therefore 10) Scientific laws are impossible
I think this argument is interesting and is a bit like that popular meme:
Cheese has holes
More cheese = more holes
More holes = less cheese
So more cheese = less cheese
So the reason ontology is not as popular as it was two centuries ago is that there are probably multiple definitions of real, and probably even no grand narratives to realness. So ontology is a muddle that is mostly semantic; it is also highly religious and so it is difficult to be definitive; for example, does Hegel's world spirit of history exist when you can't really prove empirically that it doesn't? Accordingly, this is just one example where you can freely make up your own philosophy and add it to any theory you are interested in, so following a rich tradition of thinkers of all types, left, right, ancient, modern, scientific, or religious; examples include Plato's forms, Newton's universal time, Marx's march of history, Aristotle's forces, various theisms, the free market, mathematical objects, etc.
Based on what I said about identity in blog 6: 'Is Cause and Effect the Wonderwall of Everything?', you can also add that while properties like motion exist, the objects in motion do not persist, and this applies to all properties over time. Further factor in emergent properties and latent properties. Thus to make claims about the things existing in the world is to be open to a massive confusion of identity and the real, lending itself to much interpretation. This should keep you in theory for a while.
Before anyone decides it is clear the impossible works better than science, I will dig you out of the stack argument the way I see best: This is to say that scientific laws only exist as descriptions, like the impossible. A real description is not the same as being real unless you are talking about a theory like mathematics; so scientific laws are only descriptions of the possible. But whether you think latent properties are real, I leave to you. Perhaps they are just part of the impossible, also described like the possible, when considered in absolute terms like whether they have causal existence, which they don't. When they do have that causal existence, their identities will have changed; so that what exists in the latent category is the cause of a cause or the cause of an ability to interact to create an emergent property. This would unwrap the problem for you so you may redefine everything to your taste.
* * *
I shall now end with some final words. Philosophy is sometimes ignored, but it can be a battleground. There is something to the cliche that philosophy can alienate people, however this is much less likely if you take a post-atheist approach as described in the last blog. Although the possibility remains that people will alienate you, normally this will be based on something you now understand and can feel empowered to reason with. Philosophy is a many sided coin; one side is the power of theory to interpret meaning and change lives.
Our final conclusion to this blog question of what comes first, theory or reality, is that they live together in our minds' eye. So although much theory is a waste of time, it will define our thinking and concepts.

this article only refers to Stein’s;Gate classic, as only ENFP mod have seen the movies and the Zero. If you have further comments or want to discuss about it, leave a comment or contact us!
Judging Functional Axis
Introverted Thinking (Ti) / Extroverted Feeling (Fe)
First and foremost, Kurisu is rational. She analyzes everything she sees, never satisfied with superficial explanations but always looking for the pieces of the puzzle and the rules that support the structure. She needs her own framework to work with, highly values a methodical approach and takes pride in her logic- to the point that she refuses to accept something that ‘doesn’t make sense’ even if everything around her proves otherwise. Kurisu strongly rejects even the possibility that time-travel could be real, at first, because logically that doesn’t fit with either her system or all the soundest scientific theories. The cell phone–operated microwave Okabe got to build has been created by pure experimentation, following a trial-and-error, more casual approach, rather than a structured one - so Kurisu’s first reaction at witnessing bananas turned into a jelly is to run away, because such a thing shouldn’t be possible, it’s not logical that it’s possible. But, when she accepts that a time-traveling microwave does in fact exist, she grabs a marker and writes everything down on a whiteboard to better understand how it works. Only after she’s clarified the rules and the theory behind the machine, she’s able to proceed with the next step: improving it.
Kurisu’s strong Ti is counterbalanced by her inferior Fe. She can lecture an entire class about her articles and discuss quantum physics, but she doesn’t fit well around too many people in social circumstances and is overall quite awkward when it comes to interacting with others. She’s in denial of her feelings most of the time, regarding Okabe but not limited to him. She hates getting emotional and overall finds emotions to be a burden. Nonetheless, her Fe can be easily spotted in her working overall well with the other lab members. She admits to enjoy the lively atmosphere (in opposition to her previous workplace) and the “round tables” summoned by Okabe. Her Ti makes her stubborn and honest when speaking, but she doesn’t like conflict and prefers when everyone works together and in harmony - as she states more than once to both Mayuri and Suzuha, as the second clearly dislikes her.
Perceiving Functional Axis
Extroverted Intuition (Ne) / Introverted Sensing (Si)
Her Ti paired with her Ne is what defines her character as ‘being a genius’: she’s not afraid of asking questions, and tries to look at things from a different perspective and to consider various options. She’s not only generally curious, but also knowledgeable about many topics, from neuroscience to physics - and she puts all her knowledge at work to improve Okabe’s creation, literally mixing notions from the most various fields to create the Time-Leap Machine.
She enjoys discussions and doesn’t back off from confuting theories and abstractions, and this enables her to be more open to Okabe’s unmethodical experiments and to accept that time traveling is indeed possible. Her aux-Ne, paired with Ti and Si, also makes her extremely cautious before taking action: if Okabe leaps into things without further thinking, Kurisu is the exact opposite. She has to think about what to do first, and has to ponder all the viable options to better judge what is the most logical course of action (Ti-Ne).
Her Si, although tertiary, shows in her tides with her past and in the general value that Kurisu confers to past experience: as she states at around episode 20, it’s one’s past and mistakes that define who a person is. This also affects her method, as she usually proceeds in little steps (compared to Okabe, who tends to be ‘all or nothing’), does continuous comparisons between things, theories and experiences (Ne-Si) and tends to avoid risks when it’s not necessary.
Also typed as: INTJ
This is the most common mistype about Kurisu - someone opts for ISTJ as well, but looking around on the internet, INTJ is the one you’ll probably find.
Our article is of course not the universal truth, but we are confident in typing Kurisu as INTP. Here’s why (in addition to the previous analysis):
Ni, especially if dominant, is not only about the future, but is also about the intrinsic meaning of things, the most general patterns and symbols. It’s a highly abstract, subjective introverted function that searches for what a certain thing means to it, rather than how something works. Here’s the key difference between Ni and Ti: if Ni sees a computer, it looks for a way to interpret said computer, it sees how the computer can fit in Ni’s own subjective framework. If Ti sees a computer, on contrary, it tries to understand how it works, what are its components and how they’re connected, so that Ti can form its knowledge about computers and build up its own with the pieces it finds around in the world.
Kurisu doesn’t has Te. Te looks for facts, objective logic and proven truths - Kurisu isn’t like that and it shows starting from the very first episodes, when she runs away from the lab. If Te is provided with the proof that something can happen before its own eyes, it tends to believe it, because it’s in the real world. If you can do it, then it’s doable - Te logic. Kurisu on contrary is still skeptic even when she accepts to stay in the lab: all her doubts crumble only when she has all the information she needs, and she can complete the theory behind D-Mails and time traveling. Only after she thought about the pieces and formed her own theory she is confident in assessing that time travel is possible and how to do it.
Consequently, she isn’t a Se user but, most of all, she isn’t a Fi user: her self-awareness isn’t very high, and she often questions herself about her identity as a person and as a scientist. She doesn’t show signs of Fi, but definitely shows many signs of inferior-Fe.
Regarding the ISTJ typing, the Te/Fi point is still valid, plus: Kurisu certainly has Si, but it isn’t that high. She is overall versatile, open and not too rigid on her opinion. It’s not that ISTJ cannot change their mind, but it takes them time, effort and a good amount of solid reasons. Kurisu’s auxiliary Ne on contrary enables her to confute her flawed logical theories about time traveling so that she can build a new system and proceed with the improvement of the Time-Leap Machine. She can confront changes and unexpected circumstances and doesn’t necessary needs a plan: she can make one up if it’s needed, she only has to think things through and consider various options - TiNe, as we’ve said.

Talent Turnaround: Prologue Part 1
I’m not the best writer but this idea has been stuck in my head for forever. So this is what you get, sorry.
Prologue: Same School, Same Rules, Different people - Part 1
Kaito Momota is the unluckiest person he knows. This is a truth of life that Kaito Momota accepts as fact without much debate, but not in a self-loathing, “the whole world is against me” kind of way. He has the kind of comically bad luck that makes fireworks explode more often than they should when he lights them, or makes him lose 15 phones in the span of 5 years by somehow always dropping them at the worst possible moment. It’s mostly just annoying yet insignificant things, but there’s so many of those little things that Kaito can’t help thinking that sometimes it’s more than just a coincidence. And, usually, he’s perfectly fine with this fact of life. To him, it just means he has to work harder to obtain his goals, because nothing in life will ever be handed to him. Now that he’s standing outside Hope’s Peak Academy, acceptance letter clutched in his hand, he wonders when his luck began to change.
Around 156 days ago, an acceptance letter addressed to a Kaito Momota was sent in the mail. In the letter, the reader was told that they were accepted into the most prestigious school in the world through a random lottery. The irony in this was almost palpable, and Kaito was so convinced it was some sick joke. After some research, it became clear to him that it was, in fact, not a joke. Knowing it was true only made it more ironic, and Kaito was almost angry at it. Almost, but not quite, since it’s hard to be angry when you’re getting accepted into the dream school that you’d been so convinced was far beyond your reach.
Now that he was standing outside the school, the full scope of what he was about to face finally hit him, and it felt so unreal. His dream was finally coming true, through all the odds stacked against him throughout his life, he actually made it. He took a deep breath, the last breath of fresh air he’d breath for a while filling his lungs. His foot moved forward, taking a step. Suddenly, everything felt wiggly and warped, his vision and hearing fading in and out. He couldn’t feel his limbs, and all of his senses were slowly slipping away. His vision darkened at the corners until it spread and fully engulfed everything he could see. The moment he realized the dream that seemed too good to be true probably was, it hit him like a ton of bricks. Almost as hard as the floor did when it met his face five seconds later.
…
When he finally came to, everything felt heavy. The first things he registered were his limbs, which were covered in an uncomfortable pins and needles sensation. Then, his head made itself known with a throbbing pain in tangent with the beating of his heart. Even though his eyelids felt heavy, he knew he had to open his eyes to understand where he was. Light flooded his vision, and out of instinct he squinted his eyes, not quite shutting them completely. He let out a small groan as it aggravated his already angry headache. He eventually adjusted to the light after a few seconds, and he soon found that his earlier assessment about needing to open his eyes to understand where he was was wrong. His eyes were now open, and it made his current predicament possibly even more confusing than before.
He was in a classroom, one which he didn’t recognize at all, but based on what he remembered before passing out, he assumed he was inside Hope’s Peak. At least, that seems like the most logical answer currently. After glancing around, he came to the conclusion that he was also alone in this unfamiliar classroom. That wasn’t exactly comforting. Also, the windows, or at least the spaces where there should be windows, were replaced with metal plates screwed onto the walls. That’s even less comforting.
He shifted his arms, which were crossed on the desk he was sitting at. As he moved, he heard the crumpling of paper underneath his elbow. He looked down at the desk and spotted the letter on the table, with the words, “Hey there new kid! The next semester is about to start. Starting today, this school will be your entire world” scribbled in colorful crayon.
“What the hell?” He blurted out, picking up the paper and looking it over. Was this some kind of joke? What was going on? The last thing he remembered was passing out in front of the school gates. He didn’t remember getting to the classroom, so did someone carry him all the way here?
He set the paper down, then noticed a glint of light out of the corner of his eye. Following it with his eyes, he was met with a large, not at all hidden surveillance camera. Just out in the open. Then, everything sort of fell into place. The too good to be true acceptance into Hope’s Peak, passing out right in front of the gates, the crayon note and camera.
It was all some big elaborate prank, wasn’t it? Just his luck.
As flattered as he was to be included in what seems to be a high quality prank show based on the cameras, he wasn’t too thrilled about what he thought was his biggest dream being fulfilled turning out to be a ruse for the entertainment of strangers. Kaito stood up with his hands on his desk, and he crumpled the paper.
“Aright, haha, bet you think this is real funny. I’m not exactly a fan of being pranked, so if you could cut it out, I’d appreciate it.” He yelled loud enough for a speaker to pick up, gazing directly into the camera.
No response came from any speakers, and the camera didn’t even move. He glared at it, and waved his arms frantically to try and get whoever was behind the camera’s attention.
“Helloooo?”
Still no response.
He huffed, now annoyed at this situation. If he was being pranked, these people were taking it a bit too far. Breaking eye contact with the surveillance camera, Kaito made his way to the exit of the room.
“I don’t know what you want from me, but I’m out. Screw this, I didn’t want to deal with this today.”
The doors opened, and he was greeted with something he wasn’t quite expecting. Outside the room was a hall filled with purple light, several doors on either side of him, and a checkered black and white floor. It was well kept and clean, yet the general vibe of the place gave him a sinking feeling in his stomach. If this was a prank, whoever set this up was really committed.
“Umm…”
He stepped out into the hall, a bit overwhelmed at the new scenery and not entirely sure what he was supposed to do now. If this was a prank, what kind of a reaction were they planning on getting out of him with this? If this wasn’t a prank, then why is he here? Was this really Hope’s Peak Academy? Was he kidnapped? He had so many questions, yet nothing to answer them.
There had to be a way out somewhere. If he was able to get in, there has to be a way to get out, that’s just common sense. After taking in the purple tinted halls around him, Kaito started to walk around, checking every door on the side of the hall. The doors all had labels on them, like the AV room and the gym. If he tried to open any doors, they’d be locked. The longer he spent in the hallways, the heavier the lumb of dread in his stomach grew. If this was a prank, whoever was doing it had way too much money and time on their freehands. If it wasn’t a prank, that made more sense, while also raising more questions than answers. He supposed that possibly he’d just passed out and been dragged to a classroom? He’d never been inside Hope’s Peak, and he didn’t know how they ran things here. Maybe this was all completely normal?
Kaito stopped in the middle of a hall that branched off, giving himself a moment to think. If this was normal for this school, he should probably head to the entrance hall then, since everyone was supposed to meet there at 8. Looking up at a nearby wall clock, Kaito gathered that it was 8:15 currently, which meant that he was late to the meeting. He ignored the twisting anxiety in his stomach in favor of pushing forward, continuing to wander through the halls. Without a map or guide to the school, he had no idea where he was going.
Yet somehow, despite his luck so far, he managed to stumble across the two large red doors leading to the entrance hall. Behind the doors, Kaito could hear the murmuring of several voices, all varying in pitch, tone, and volume. Whether or not all of what had happened to him so far was normal orientation for this school or just a prank, he was about to find out. He steeled himself with a deep breath, plastered a believable smile on his face, and pushed the doors open with shaky hands.

The Prison Kingdom

Chapter 1: The Empty Legacy
-
Summary: The world is becoming more and more dangerous, both on land and sea. It’s time for you to face this fight, and dragon, on your own terms. Even if it means siding along with the kingdom who would condemn your kind without mercy.
Warnings: Mention about decapitation.
★ Disclaimer: I do not ship Lotura and I respectfully ask that this story to not be tagged as Lotura. This is a Lotor x Reader/Self-Insert OC story which is in no way related to Lotura at all. Please be respectful of my chosen pairing. ★
A/N: It’s a medieval-ish AU with dragons. What more could you want?

[There’s an old saying among renegade sea folk: The pirate that counts their booty are mere thieves.
War and death have pillaged the water and dirt of the planet for centuries, costing innocent lives from both sides. It was easy to paint the enemy as the enemy, as the one who needs to die before their sword cuts down your soul. It was easy to defend what you righteously believed needs to be defended, whether that be gold or the treasures that come with family and friends. It was easy to embrace that the laws of the sea were, at best, just rumors among the free people.
And such laws, such rules whispered by the dead man, don’t apply to the mystical wildlife. They don’t apply to creatures who have no loyalty, who have no other moral besides kill and eat for survival. From the trolls of the mountains, to the mermaids of the sea, to the fae of the forests, to the very dragons who control elements with ferocity matching the epitome of death itself, it would do well to remember that a set of fangs have no set order to kill.
But while beasts and monsters roam, and kingdoms rise and fall to the tests of time, and legends become lingering myths by the breath of the wind, it is the folly of prideful ignorance which murders countless more than the culmination of every bloodthirsty demon known in existence. With that in mind, tread carefully around those you would call allies or friends or like-minded folks. The Codex of Life may preach all-for-one and one-for-all, but deep down, it is a beautifully written lie for the over-eager martyrs.
Do not fall for such false speech regarding the dichotomy of good and evil.
Severing a hydra’s head will not kill it. Mana spells are useless against the naga’s of the Ice Plateaus. Beware of the volcano whose smoke takes form of two lovers, for no weapon or mantra can quell their rage should you cross them on a full moon. This collection of knowledge will help spread death, strike fear and hope in the hearts of many, and I leave this to you, my child.
You will have no legacy to follow. You are the bastard child I left behind to reach that unreachable freedom. You will make your own name amongst the farthest edges of the sea with every gale that blesses your sails.
You are a pirate.]
Closing the leather-bound journal, you skimmed your thumb over the pressed design of crossbones and cutlass’ on the cover. A legacy forgotten and one you would never know about? Dead men tell no tales, indeed. But regardless, this book would help with the bounty you were debating on facing. The paper was flimsy, hastily ripped off the pole to save for later, but the words were clear as day. And if you were able to complete this task, pocket enough shiny coin to support your entire crew with all the rum and pleasure they could want for years on end, leave behind your own legend, then that’d be enough for you.
“Seeking Dragonslayers of all kind! Report to Altea, Blessed Kingdom of Oriande!”
Then, hastily scribbled at the bottom.
“Speak to Paladin Takashi of the Black Mane Guild.”
Hefting yourself from your seat, you downed the rest of your mug reeking of ale and moist wood. The jovial band played, the patrons danced, the entire room was filled with fighting life, and it was impossible to not let it flow through you. It felt wrong to hold such a book in this place, the taboo writings from death’s bleeding quill. And so, with a tip of your hat and a silver doubloon for the ever so diligent barkeep, you stumbled out into the chill of the night with nothing but your guns, your sword, and the magical warmth of ale to keep you steadfast and eager towards your freedom.
But freedom always came with a cost and you paid a leg to chase it.
When you passed through the heavily fortified gates of Altea, shimmering in that pristine metal forged only by the elves of old, nothing came as a surprise. This place, this kingdom, the people here, were rich with elegance and practically congested in an air of royalty. Prim and proper. Clean, lethal, and ready to strike while looking mystical by default. Alteans, they called themselves. A long generation of the ancient Elven deities, granted with the dwindling power of magic.
The book states they do not share their secrets with outsiders. Not even to those stupidly loyal to them.
Imagine the raised brow of confusion when you saw their captain, that Takashi fellow, was a werewolf. So far from his pack, this one. Though, it made sense. Ferocious, fierce, werewolves were not meant to be trifled with, full moon or no. The loyalty of the wolf combined with the logical reasoning of man? Smart. Now, the real question was where did his allegiance lie?
“Paladin Takashi, I presume?”
Grey eyes, like the foggiest of winter nights, met yours and you saw him size you up with but a flash. Not lecherously, no, more like how a soldier would assess a fight, a situation, a potential ally or enemy. With amusement glistening in YOUR eyes, you found that he couldn’t pinpoint you down. A pirate on land? Joining the fight for a good cause? Yes, yes, you heard it all before. Walking ironies were always meant to be suspicious.
But pirates had charm and you knew when to use it.
With a flourished bow, both exaggerating in mock and respect, you spoke through a grin, “Allow me to introduce meself, ser. I be known as Peg-Leg the Kegmaster, cannon crafter and duelist extraordinaire of The Mermaid’s Doom, here at yer service.”
“A pirate?”
“Aye, a pirate, and if ye gunna be needin’ a slayed dragon, then yer gunna be needin’ what I have’ta offer.”
“To be honest, I’m surprised the guards didn’t detain you at first sight. But, desperate times call for desperate measures,” he replied freely, not at all with a judgmental tone but one of legitimate concern for you, for a stranger.
“An’ I be the perfect one fer those desperate times, mate.”
You placed the bounty parchment on the table in front of him then slid into the seat, onlookers tending to their own business. Coming here, to the central command of the vigilant army, there were all sorts of different kinds of folks around. Some wielding spears and donning turtle shells on their backs, others like Shiro with ears and tails and even fangs of werewolves, feathered harpies whose talons looked lethal enough to kill a shark, and even dwarves armored with fine metal from top to bottom.
A ragtag group of people, all coming together to fight one monster which has been blighting their landlubbing surface for who knows how long. An honorable cause, but as they say, there’s no honor amongst thieves. That’s why proving yourself right now would be pivotal to your aligned goals.
“By order of Her Majesty, Princess Allura, I have been bestowed the task of ridding the quintessence raged dragon of the north. Because of this, we can not allow magic-wielders to join our group. I know Peg is not your real name - “ you grinned cheekily, not at all affected by the admonishing tone in the truth, “ - but if you use quintessence to fight, I’m afraid you’re of no use to us on the frontline.”
“Nay, I t’aint one for hocus-pocus witchcraft. You start mutterin’ curses and voodoo gobbledee gook, I scatter like-a flock o’ gulls fleeing from the slimy tentacles of kraken itself.” With a nod to the paper, you continued, “If I were to be speakin’ the truth, matey, I’m here fer the gold. Nothing more, nothing less. Anything to do with yer kingdoms rubbin’ elbows with ya fancy silks are of no concern to me.”
Shiro leaned back, arms crossed, then tilted his head just a bit, not at all unlike a puppy trying to understand some strange phenomenon. He wasn’t a fresh soldier from the pack. Battle scars under his fur showed that this isn’t the first time he’s faced a foe bigger than himself. It was only by his strong connection with his righteous virtues and a debt owed to Altea, more specifically Honerva, that he was appointed captain of this draconic crusade.
But his trust in his instincts were always on point. That made him invaluable and right now? With watching you smile that smarmy smile, his instincts told him that, yes, you were good. Rogues were a recipe for trouble, add that with the lot of pirates, and you get chaos. An ace up the sleeve, a random boon that benefits all based on the law of uncertainty. Shiro would take a draw rather than a loss any day.
And he’s dealt with pirates before. Closely, in fact.
The Paladin rubbed his chin with his prosthetic arm, the smooth surface of quintessence run mechanism offering a small calm for his thoughts. “Where’s the rest of your crew?”
“The wind in the sails took ‘em to the sea. I chose t’stay. ‘Tis only a matter of time before this dragon o’ yers starts roosting in other lands and I ain’t one for facing more monsters below and above the waves,” your voice trailed off for a moment before your eyes snapped from his arm to his face, “Nor am I lookin’ to be noosed by yer masters. If this alliance can not be, I’ll be on me merry way an’ ye won’t need ‘ta worry about one more pirate on your plate.”
But he was no fool. Word of the growing stress between kingdoms reached even overseas in the last decade. News about the alliance between Altea and Daibazaal falling out with King Alfor’s death, or rather, “assassination.” It was rumored that the Galra leaders unleashed an ancient dragon, created of pure quintessence, to attack the Elven empire and cripple the nation. After the destruction which nearly annihilated the royal family, it fled to the Kral Zera holy lands, never to be seen again.
Until now. Shiro repeatedly told himself that perhaps this was just a dead end, a fairy tale told to keep kids safe and sound inside. A story meant to induce fear that the evil dragon can sense wrongdoings and will come eat you to gain more power. All leads he followed led to different answers, and this may be an unaccomplished quest in the end, but if that were the case, then he will serve to protect the innocent at the highest cost.
“The Black Mane work with several nations, not just one. If you can prove to be useful, be battle ready when needed, and are willing to help all, then consider yourself part of the pact,” he pulled out a folded paper from his pouch then slid it to you, “It’s a contract, rules to be followed while commissioned by the guild.”
“Yer giving me a set o’ rules?”
Now, this is where he let slip a grin hiding familiar mischief, “They’re more like guidelines should you choose to follow them, for your safety and the successful completion of this quest.”
“Tell me something, cap’n,” you asked, eyes reading but mindful of his attention, “Have ye ever broken one o’ them rules of yers?”
“Yes.” Straight answer with a tone of finality, a tone of that is all I’m saying on the matter.
You signed across the line, temporarily giving your time and life over to this noble cause, “Then do we have an accord?”
Shiro shook hands with pirates before. He’s taken more hands before, too. But what most people would suspiciously think about making deals with pirates were wrong. Honor and loyalty weren’t definitions they followed by their very soul, not like he did, yet as he firmly grasped your offered hand in agreement, his instincts told him one jarring fact.
This deal was empty, but oddly promising.

Bankrupt: The Story of Donald Trump

Bankrupt By Otis Adams
President Trump’s ascendance to the White House as a Republican is truly baffling. He is a middling businessman whose success came from inherited wealth, a reprobate by Christian standards, admires the Republican hobgoblin Vladimir Putin, champions the use of tariffs that are typically a tool used by Democrats…and he became the Republican nominee for President of the United States?
The Republican Party is both the party of business and the party of Jesus. This is a peculiar and conflicted marriage on a normal day, but how did Donald Trump become the choice for either group?
God’s Man
Let us begin our two-part investigation into the Trump mystery with those among us who are most prone to singing with closed eyes.
Christians have embraced Trump. If this were not so, he would not be the president. Many seem to do so with the childlike faith that God will excuse their votes if they were cast with a held nose. Others, those with that boundless talent for belief, have elevated Trump to the cast of God-chosen biblical leaders.
Trump has not only reformed the philosophy of the Republican Party, but has done some remodeling work for American protestant Christianity. For instance, President Donald J. Trump has rekindled a bit of the interest Christians once had in the Bible by autographing a few. You too can own your own Trump autographed Bible for $325.
I have written and said for years that we are in the midst of a Second Reformation. Protestants, whose forefathers rebuked the authority of the clergy in favor of the infallible authority of the Bible, are now altogether adrift as they are no longer tethered to the Bible either. Authority now resides with each individual’s interpretation of their own emotions.
This, I am certain, adds to the agility of the historically adaptable faith as there is no way to debate a believer’s beliefs if they don’t know what they are.
The modern Christian’s ignorance of Christianity is not a hindrance to church attendance as an abundance of professed believers can be found serenading the Lord in every American town and city on Sunday mornings.
This newish breed of dingbat is however doing damage to democracy and traditional American ideals and aspirations. The most obvious evidence of this is that Christians elected former game show host and WWE Hall of Famer Donald J. Trump to preside over the United States of America…and afterward shifted blame by claiming this was God’s will.
If Christians are playing by the (Good) book, they are not allowed to be dazzled by the wealth of the wealthy. Their concern is to be the teachings of Jesus. Jesus, who turned over the money changing tables. Jesus, who told the rich man to sell all that he has, give it to the poor, and follow him. Jesus, who said a camel can more easily pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man can enter the gates of Heaven.
Trump’s cupidity, for centuries a disgusting sin in the eyes of Christians, is now a virtue. That the Bible says this love of money is the root of all evil is of no consequence. The Bible is of little concern to the modern confused Christian. Neither do traditional elements of good character cross the mind.
Christians are supposed to favor truth over lies. Yet, they nominated and then voted in the millions for the most prolific liar in the history of the American presidency. His demonstrable lie tally since becoming President recently rocketed past the 13,400 mark.
Christians are meant to be concerned with integrity but deflect any responsibility for handing the reins of power to a scoundrel who repeatedly cheated on his wives with pornographic actresses and nude models.
Instead, they twist and contort their own beliefs in order to make room for Trump. They pervert the New Testament teachings on forgiveness as a free pass to avoid any effort at attempting a virtuous life. They draw tortured equivalencies between Paul of Tarsus and Donald Trump, pretending that infrequent mentions of God in speeches to religious groups is not bald pandering, but a sinner striving to repent and get right with his maker. They circulate false equivalencies with Trump playing the role of King David and Stormy Daniels being a breast-augmented version of Bathsheba, apparently substituting Trump’s lies and cover up of the affair for David’s repentance and dead son.
I was shocked when I first heard a variation of the argument that the President of the United States needn’t be a Boy Scout to get the job done. I have since heard this a couple dozen times from Christians I went to church with growing up, who now divorce integrity, accountability, and moral fortitude from the list of qualifications for leadership.
In another vertigo-inducing example my 60-year-old mother, who has gone to church for 60 of her 60 years, describes herself as a “Trump girl”. I tried to tell her some of the scandalous things Trump has said and she scolded me for using that language in her house. I showed her the nude photos America’s First Lady posed for and she said, “Well, she is a really pretty lady.”
I keep waiting to hear a Rod Serling voiceover emanating from the heavens as he explains my plight in the Twilight Zone.
In an effort to lend a hand to those confused Christians I find using social media, I’ll review the story in which Jesus said the one without sin could cast the first stone. This was the scene in which Jesus was writing in the dirt, deep in thought about something else as I recall. The neighborhood watch dragged a woman over to Jesus and accused her of adultery and asked something along the lines of, “Hey, you want us to start throwing rocks at her?” Jesus then somewhat encouraged the Socratic tenet of living an examined life by requiring the rock hurlers be sinless.
The point Jesus was trying to get across was that throwing rocks at an adulteress until she’s dead was not an equitable response to her actions. We might intuit that violence is a poor answer to another’s mistakes. It is also fair to glean, from this and other New Testament scenes, that Jesus wanted us to look at our own motivations and actions before examining others.
However, he absolutely was not suggesting that a person’s character is meaningless and we should make the adulteress the leader of the free world.
The cognitive shenanigans American Christians are willing to engage in to scoot their belief in God aside to make room enough for Trump causes me to wonder if they actually buy into those claimed beliefs. If they truly think they will stand before God one day and explain why they granted power to this man, twisting Biblical teachings to do so, and making him an example for an entire generation of children.
Surely arguments of ending abortion would fall short before such a judge as all the other Republican candidates were pro-life. Winning the Supreme Court for conservatives is another whimpering effort as Marco Rubio is unlikely to have nominated Bob Dillon and Gloria Steinem as replacement justices if he had won the Presidency.
Hillary Clinton was the most beatable Democratic nominee in my lifetime and American Christians had several candidates to choose from to go and do it. Without Christian support, Trump could not have won the nomination. After getting him nominated, Christians then maneuvered to the position that it was a choice between two evils and Trump was the lesser of them, clumsily trying to shed responsibility for making him the nominee.
Instead of acting as armor, the faith of American Christians was somehow transmuted into a religious faith in Trump. It is almost as though being people of faith made them vulnerable to Trump, priming them to believe in the unbelievable. They support Trump with disembodied faith that is no longer coupled with the traditional morality of the religion in which it was born.
There is a growing bit of data to support this notion that the faithful are more gullible than the faithless, though the report card doesn’t look great for either class.
The number of Americans who can’t discern fact from opinion or something that’s known from something believed is staggering. Millions of people who grew up going to American schools and living in towns and cities with public libraries have opted not to gather any of the logic skills that have been within arm’s reach their entire lives. Instead, knowing something has become the finish line for belief rather than an entirely separate category. Regardless, knowing something does not mean believing it a whole lot.
Pew Research Center findings suggest that American adults would benefit a great deal from asking a second grade teacher for a few of those worksheets where you circle facts and underline opinions. Only about a quarter of American adults could successfully identify the five factual statements among the list of ten they were asked to look at. For those who do not trust the media’s honesty, the number falls to 18%.
The confusion Americans have over the definitions of fact and opinion were brought into the light by the research. It shows, with overwhelming clarity, that believers are ravaged by the disease of the brain called Confirmation Bias. They set up their conclusion first, then they call information they find supportive of that conclusion a fact while counterevidence is, at best, an opinion.
This perversion of faith is evident among most of the Christians I know and even the preachers who are televised on Sunday mornings. Never mind the small scolding Jesus gave Thomas for seeking evidence, or the Bible’s repeated dismissal of knowledge and exaltation of faith. Never mind that if something is knowable there is no option for belief, only acknowledgment. These Second Reformation Christians have broken away from the authority of the Bible as Protestants broke with the clergy. They instead give their own interpretation of their own emotions at any given moment the dizzying authority of the true word and will of God. As the Bible falls out of fashion for American Christians, so too does the value of faith – or even the understanding of what the word means. Instead, they will say, without hesitation, that they know this or that about God and his will.
The faith a third of American’s have in Donald Trump is akin to deity worship in some ways. Anything Trump does is good by virtue of Trump having been the one to do it. Any reporting of his misdeeds is viewed as the enemy of the deity trying to confuse his loyal followers, as Satan confused Eve, and should be met with plugged ears and closed eyes. The faithful await word from the deity’s spokesperson, Pope Sarah Huckabee Sanders so that they can hear and memorize the words of the deity and go forth and multiply, repeating Trump’s teachings throughout the day to non-believers. If he says something that sounds bad, the flock will work together to explain what he meant by what he said, and it’s sure to be something good. If a longtime Republican politician opposes Trump, they’re RINO heretics. Anyone who disagrees with Trumpians are guilty of persecuting the flock.
Republican leadership has discovered that repurposed Christian faith is a useful leash for millions of voters. While some of these faithful are only people of average intelligence with a talent for willful self-delusion, it is also evident that there must be many millions of Americans with a genuine inability to distinguish truth from lie, fact from opinion, or reliable source from unreliable. Nothing is gained from, and there’s something vicious about, mocking this latter group. While the willfully self-deluded earn the bruising quips sent their way, a person without the ability to do the job should be offered patience and sympathy.
Let’s run through a few examples of how faith has been used as a tool for manipulating voters.
In 2012 the Associated Press conducted a survey that revealed that more than 40% of Americans believed the new health care bill included death panels. The basis for this belief was a claim made by Reverend Sarah Palin, who invented an Orwellian Democratic scheme to create a panel of folks who would be in charge of whether to kill elderly parents or children with developmental disabilities in order to save on medical costs.
Before becoming President, Trump himself made enormous political headway by yanking on that faith leash as he championed the lie that President Obama is not a citizen of the United States. In the lie’s heyday, about three-quarters of Republicans either agreed or weren’t sure. Over 40% of Republicans still believed Obama was secretly a Muslim in 2015.
Millions of Republican voters believe that Hillary Clinton had a side-gig of running a child sex ring out of a pizzeria basement in Washington D.C. Trump, as the conspiracy theory goes, quietly began the heroic work of taking down these sex rings and bringing the celebrities and democrats responsible to justice immediately after taking office!
These are good examples of believing on faith alone as twenty minutes of research, supposing common sense did not dismiss the absurd claims immediately, would reveal facts dispelling the lies above. Instead, they take their preacher’s word on it and see evidence to the contrary as stumbling blocks placed in their paths by the great deceiver, the mainstream media.
Christians have butted heads with science for centuries, since evidence-based discoveries began disproving elements of papal teachings. This became another handy vulnerability for the Christian’s party mates, the businessmen, to exploit. As the leadership in corporations that make money off things that cause harmful emissions started to get nervous, they found the solution of sending out Christian soldiers to roll their eyes at Global Warming any time it snows. Beleaguered climate scientists, aware that this misunderstanding was more likely mischief than ignorance, began using the term Climate Change.
When I was in high school their position was that Global Warming was not taking place at all. Christians, with their marching orders, repeated this wholeheartedly in their daily lives. A few years later this argument began sounding so absurd that the pundits shifted to the idea that maybe Global Warming was happening but it wasn’t any more caused by mankind than the last ice age. Christians broke into new denominations. Some held the line while others fell back to the new trench and pretended they had been there all along.
The new position that’s popular today is that Global Warming is probably taking place, and maybe human activity has slightly contributed, but we have passed the tipping point and should not do anything that risks the economy in the name of a problem that needed action twenty years ago… back when they said it wasn’t real.
The eager faith of American Christians and their predilection for opposing scientific discoveries when they move too closely to things that are believed made them a useful tool for the business side of the party. When the decision was to either acknowledge the findings of a staggering number of scientific studies or believe a few conservative radio and TV talk show hosts, they chose the latter without hesitation. They were well prepared to believe in often ridiculous lies about the opposing party while ignoring glaring truths about Trump.
Those Christians who want to collapse the separation of Church and State should recognize this separation is not in place only to protect the state. American Christianity could not even survive, in any recognizable form, after mingling with a single political party. Instead, they lost themselves.
Christians are mandated to have compassion for the poor, though they have become sycophants of the rich. Christians ought to feel an empathic pain when they see a toddler pulled from his mother’s arms at the border as an added deterrent for illegal immigration, though they shrug and call them criminals. Christians are meant to insist that leaders be devoted husbands, free of the filth of greed, not prideful, above reproach, honest, good tempered, patient, kind, and charitable.
Unfortunately, American Christians have abandoned their post.
A Modern-Day Vanderbilt
As we rang in the New Year, 2019, the stock market was plummeting. The American government entered a shutdown for the third time in a year, a feat that had not been accomplished for decades. The national debt reached its highest mark in the history of the nation. Trump had been President for 24 months.
Trump’s reputation as a self-made billionaire who rose to the top thanks to the buoyancy of his business genius is mostly a fiction manufactured by him. Donald Trump has reportedly been the longtime clown prince of America’s wealthy since the 1980’s, often the butt of jokes at parties on yachts where I imagine women smoke cigarettes in those Cruella de Vil cigarette things and men exchange tips on how to improve their croquet games. Among America’s top businessmen, Trump was a punchline.
Trump’s business acumen is only impressive to those who are ignorant of his record beyond what they have read on magazine covers. Often, he made it into those magazines through self-promotion and a bit of trickery.
John Barron is one of the characters Trump would play to promote himself in telephone calls to reporters and columnists. (Trump’s alias John Miller was in charge of calling gossip magazines.) This alter-ego can be heard in taped recordings talking to Forbes reporter John Greenberg in an effort to get Trump on the magazine’s list of richest Americans. Trump had been lobbying to get on the list since its inception a few years before and winced as it reported his wealth as being a fraction of what he had been boasting publicly. Even so, Trump’s smoke and mirrors apparently benefitted him as the magazine determined he had $100 million. Greenberg says that he now regrets the mistake as new research proves that at the time Trump had about $5 million.
On a side note, the choice of creating an alter-ego named Barron gives some insight on Trump’s psyche. Perhaps he sees himself as a baron from feudal times in Europe or a cattle baron from the 19th century American West. In any event, he likes the name well enough to give it to himself when prank calling magazines and he gave the name to his youngest son as well.
Trump wanted to be thought of as an American billionaire, regardless of having $5 million. “Fake it until you make it,” might be a good credo for the Donald. The tactic he used was to try and confuse reporters as to how much of his father’s wealth now belonged to him. While Trump privately tried to convince magazines that he owned what belonged to his father, he publicly pushed the idea that his father gave him a small loan to get him started, but the rest of his success was well-earned.
By the 1990’s Trump was in fact extremely rich. He gained an enormous amount of wealth by joining with his siblings to create a fake corporation, its purpose being to, “disguise millions of dollars in gifts from their parents,” The New York Times reported. He also helped dear old Dad evade millions of dollars in taxes by lying about the value of assets they held and advising the old man to take deductions illegally. The tax fraud saved the Trumps more than $500 million.
Donald Trump deftly played this shell game, wanting the public to think he was a self-made billionaire due to his swashbuckling brilliance in crafting deals, trying to convince magazines he was super-rich because he inherited daddy’s real estate empire, and telling the IRS he was living paycheck to paycheck.
His mischief paid off though. In today’s dollars, Trump was able to leach off over $400 million from his father’s empire to keep for himself.
While Trump has had business successes, his numerous failures keep him off the list of the great businessmen he wants the public to believe he is the champion of.
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney provided a damning list of failures in his famous speech urging his party to choose a more qualified nominee in 2016. He said, “But you say, wait. Isn’t he a huge business success? Doesn’t he know what he’s talking about? No, he isn’t and no he doesn’t. His bankruptcies have crushed small businesses and the men and women who work for them. He inherited his business. He didn’t create it. And whatever happened to Trump Airlines? How about Trump University? And then there’s Trump Magazine, and Trump Vodka, and Trump Steaks, and Trump Mortgage. A business genius he is not.”
How the Republicans morphed from the party that nominated the upright Romney in 2012 into the one who nominated the degenerate Trump in 2016 is baffling, but the former champion of the GOP was swiftly villainized by Republicans for truthfully reciting Trump’s resume. His loyalty to Republican policies and commitment to ideals of at least attempting to have strong character were rewarded with accusations of being a traitor.
Trump’s philosophy in life is that reality is the story he presents and truth does not exist. Trump acolyte Kellyanne Conway revealed these teachings as she told Meet the Press’s Chuck Todd about, “alternative facts”. That Trump successfully sold himself as a modern day Vanderbilt, Carnegie, or Rockefeller to those voters enamored by the rich might unfortunately prove his philosophy of deceit as a workable path to success. He was awarded the nomination over far more qualified Republican candidates.
It is part of Trump’s standard operating procedures to boast, even about failures. His loss of the popular vote to Hillary Clinton is an example. There he claimed voter fraud, without any evidence. Without this imaginary voter fraud, he would have won with record-breaking numbers. His approach to business is much the same as he describes his bankruptcies as just smart business decisions that are commonly made by high rollers such as himself. To support my claim that he is nothing more than a middling businessman whose success relied upon inheriting much of his father’s vast wealth, let’s look more closely at these bankruptcies.
Tax records revealed in 2019 that Trump took a billion dollar loss between 1985 and 1994. From 1990 to 1991 he was number one in the country in losses, more than doubling the hit taken by the nation’s second biggest loser. As with the bankruptcies, Trump dismissed the story as smart business decisions that common people would not understand.
What is a bit more difficult to dismiss is that in 1990 Trump’s hotels, casinos, and airline were performing so poorly that they could not even cover the interest owed to the dozens of banks who loaned the future president money. For Trump this could have meant bankruptcy. Lucky for Trump though, it also would have meant heavy losses for those banks. The banks decided to loan him another $65 million to keep him from missing his payment deadlines. One cost of the loan was that Trump had to surrender managing control of his companies to the banks, who expected that Trump would spend the time they bought him to sell enough of his properties to pay them back.
Even after all this, Trump’s three casinos filed for bankruptcy. The Plaza Hotel had to do the same in 1992 and the banks took many of his remaining assets. Trump would have had to file personal bankruptcy, damaging the fiction he was presenting to the public during these years, but the banks worked with him and his father gave him money to prevent it.
It was because of these enormous failures that Trump was locked out of the big business deals he had been attempting. Instead, he began selling his name. The lie he had been telling about his legendary business genius somehow endured these setbacks that would have been crippling had his father not saved him. He has been selling that lie ever since.
RINO
The typical routine for candidates in both parties used to be to drift toward the extreme side of your party to get the nomination because that is where those eager enough to vote in primaries lived. Then the job for running for president was truly a race back toward the center, where most Americans lived, before the election.
When I was a kid, my neighbors had a two-party household. My father, raised by a democrat mother and republican father, was a republican and my mother went along with it without having any real partisan convictions I can recall at that time. Even so, we frequently got visits from my mother’s democrat friend and her pro-union husband. My dad would grumble, “Those people are idiots,” before they arrived, and then for the next three hours I would watch television while they played cards at the kitchen table. In those days, my home state earned its nickname as the Show-Me State because neither political party had Missouri in its pocket. The nominees had to prove themselves.
Those days have gone, though I hope not forever.
Today, the parties have moved so far apart that the distance naturally creates more distance. It used to be that a president could expect his fellow party mates in Congress to support him 60-70% of the time. By the time of Obama’s presidency that party loyalty was closer to 90%, and has topped 90% with Trump. The once commonplace pro-life Democrat, for example, is now seen as repugnant by both parties and is quickly shamed into compliance or shunned – as religious communities often deal with heretics.
Being in the political center is now mocked by newcomers like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who frames having centrist views as a symptom of having no convictions about America’s future.
The right also pushes this fiction that the greatness of your patriotism will be shown by how extreme your political views are. Conservatives shame people away from the center in many ways, but one of them is with the term RINO. This stands for republican in name only.
Once some tipping point in recent decades was reached, the widening of the partisan divide took on some characteristics of a perpetual motion machine. If Republicans took a step to the right, Democrats took a step to the left. Each time one party moved farther from the center, the other party responded in kind.
Center-left and center-right voters find few options. If you considered yourself a Democrat but voted for Ronald Reagan, you still voted for someone who agreed with you on about 80% of the issues. To cross over now might mean voting for someone who disagrees with you on 80% of the issues that are important to you because politicians are fleeing from the center.
This divide and team sports mentality means that voters are no longer considering the character of the person running for office as they once did. Instead, they are more and more voting for their team, regardless of the individual wearing the jersey. The party leads the people.
There are several popular explanations for how the Republican Party went against its own established principles to nominate Trump, and then how the nation went on to elect him. They range from angry voters trying to teach Washington D.C. a lesson to angry voters trying to tell Democrats to get back to helping the working person. These are not robust enough explanations to satisfy, and I am afraid I will not be offering my own guess.
I will say, however, that in 2016 the Republican Party chose a RINO as their nominee. This indicates to me that it is not only agreement with a nominee that leads to their winning the White House, but that voters’ revulsion toward that nominee’s opponent that motivates. To put it more directly, voters have become so saturated with the poison of partisan loyalty that they were going to the polls to vote against Clinton, which they would have done no matter who her opponent was.
My calling Trump a RINO does not mean that I consider him a centrist. He is not genuinely left, center, or right politically – and at the same time he has been each of these things over the course of his life. He is whatever works. If Trump had seen a clearer path to becoming president as a Stalin Communist, he would have told his people to find Ivan Drago and talk him into being his running mate.
By calling him a RINO, I am just saying that he won the Republican nomination, but does not keep with long held Republican ideals. By this point, it would likely be more accurate to say that the party itself has shifted to meet Trump, transforming its claimed ideals so that it can fit around the president.
There was a movement of a sort when it began to look as if Trump might be the nominee. These Republicans called themselves Never Trumpers. This amounted to an enormous portion of established Republican politicians when it seemed like a safe bet that he would never become president. After he became president, the Never Trump movement lost a lot of momentum, but many soldier on in defense of what the GOP was before Trump.
From time to time a petition or letter signed by a few dozen preachers standing up to Trump will make the news, but they have little lasting impact. Christians who are not moved by immigrants having their children taken away from them and held in detention centers are not likely to feel their spirits stirred by a petition.
One effort from a Christian magazine did hold a spot in the headlines for a few days. Christianity Today, held in high regard by some believers because of its ties to the late Billy Graham, published a very clear rebuke of Trump concerning his impeachment.
“The typical Christianity Today approach is to stay above the fray and allow Christians with different political convictions to make their arguments in the public square… (We want to be) a place that welcomes Christians from across the political spectrum, and remind everyone that politics is not the end and purpose of our being… But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral. The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationships with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone – with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders – is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.”
It did not take long for most Christians to forget the article, though it was an overdue stance from a significant Christian periodical and the magazine should be proud to have taken it.
The National Review is the conservative magazine that taught Ronald Reagan Reaganomics. It is safe to say that when they took their early stance against Trump being nominated to lead the party, they believed they still held a good deal of influence over voters. As they tried to draw comparisons between Trump and Obama, it seems that not many were listening.
The rise of Trump also marks the moment the main body of Republican voters broke with Republican intellectuals. This could hardly have come as a surprise to those intellectuals. The growing disdain for experts on the far right as well as the spreading virus of baseless hubris among those voters had been obvious to anyone paying attention. These are the voters who know more about current events than the press. They understand climate science better than climate scientists. Their Google-powered research makes their conclusions about vaccines more valid than that of the world’s community of medical doctors. Their opinions are stronger than facts and their beliefs can withstand any evidence. What use could such a group as the far right have for conservative thinkers like George Will when they have emotion and intuition to guide them?
Susan B. Glasser wrote an interesting article for the New Yorker in March, 2020 following the efforts of Never Trump Republican Sarah Longwell. In part, the article describes some of the organized groups attempting to hold to traditional Republican principles, and how their disobedience infuriates the president who warns, “Watch out for them, they are human scum!” Longwell’s hope is to build a coalition of the center and she hopes that Joe Biden can represent this. Her hope beyond this is that, as after the Nixon debacle, the Republican Party can take the following four years to redefine itself.
After Trump was the nominee, Longwell began feeling very lonely as her allies hopped over the line to join the New Republican Party. As the 2020 Presidential Election grows near, Longwell has found allies like George Conway and the Lincoln Project, and continues trying to make her case to likely voters.
The aroma of petrichor is in the air as signs of a rejuvenating rain begin to mount. The avalanche of Trump’s scandals and embarrassments seem to vex reasonable Republicans who ignored them two years ago. The very early polls suggest that Joe Biden could win comfortably against Trump in November, in part because he is not reviled by the right in the way Hillary Clinton is, and so his nomination may not ignite the same fire in Republicans.
If the historical mistake of Donald Trump is corrected in November, we should keep in mind that the 30% of Americans who make up his base will remain. They are the ones who showed themselves in a poll released yesterday, in which 70% of Americans were in favor of mail-in voting for November’s Presidential Election in order to protect lives from Covid-19. The remaining 30% are not moved by the elderly poll workers who are distressed by the idea of risking their lives. Instead, they either understand that the fewer people allowed to vote, the better Trump’s chances for re-election, or else they are so gullible that they can be manipulated by claims of mail-in ballots leading to a rigged election absent any evidence.
People who are happy to undermine American Democracy, whether it be through the meddling of a foreign government or homespun ways to keep people from voting, have likely always been around but were too weakly organized to derail America. Supposing Biden does win over the financially and morally bankrupt Trump, we will still have to wait to see if the reasonable center has been restored well enough to dominate the extremes in a lasting way.
The checks and balances built into the foundations of our government by our Founding Fathers have remained intact, though they have been damaged in the Trump years. It is naïve to take for granted that American Democracy will endure no matter how irresponsible the American people. We have been reminded many times throughout our history that America is an experiment that can either succeed or fail. America can only continue unbroken if each generation keeps it until passing it to the next.
The adults in the center must regain control of the children on the edges or our future might read like Lord of the Flies.

This talk of the early seasons gives me another question: do you think the demons were trying to break John in hell? Like, were they trying to break the first seal with John a couple years before Dean? Or do you think breaking Dean was the original plan all along? (I'm aware the writers wouldn't have known about the seals while writing John being in hell seasons 1/2. I'm concerned about the Watsonian perspective here.) Thanks for your wisdom btw, I love your perspective on this stuff 😬
Hi there! First off, thanks! I do my best, and I’m glad you’re enjoying it :D
Second, wheee! Watsonian perspective is what I care most about, so I’ll stick to that. Well, mostly… the one thing I feel I do need to bring up is the timeline of s2, which I would suggest falls roughly over the span of time during which it airs– that’s to say that 2.01 (where John dies) and 2.22 (where John pops out of Hell and gives the assist in killing Azazel) are approximately eight to eleven months apart, depending on which theory of the timeline you subscribe to.
We know that 2.22 takes place immediately after the events of 2.21, which we have a concrete date for– Dean sells his soul on May 2, 2007. According to the Superwiki, John was killed by Azazel on July 19, 2006, but that’s a guess based on the date listed on the heart monitor of the girl who dies in the hospital in 2.01. And we all know how… timey-wimey those sorts of props can be, and I’m uncomfortable making definitive timeline estimates based on just those things. But for the purposes of this post, we’ll assume the range of potential timeline for 2.01 runs between late July and late September 2006 (since 2.01 aired on September 28, 2006, and often without other concrete dates, we assume canon runs approximately parallel to our real time).
So, John was in Hell for somewhere between 8 and 10 months, approximately, of canon standard time. But what do we really know about that time he spent in Hell?
We know DEAN’S experience in Hell, where he was being specifically worked over to the point of breaking. We know that his four months (actually more like four and a half– from May 2, 2008 through his resurrection date of September 18, 2008), but that it actually felt more like 40 years to him.
I need to stress this specifically, because the fandom assumption has always been “well, this is just what time is like uniformly throughout Hell, and not a targeted, concentrated experience catered specifically to accelerating Dean’s progression to surrender and pick up the blade himself, in fulfillment of the prophecy.”
I… always assumed that Dean’s experience was unique in Hell, and that– based on every other glimpse we’ve seen of Hell– Time runs… pretty much like normal Earth time there. Think of Crowley’s meeting with Cas in 6.20, in Hell’s waiting line. Or 11.09-11.10 (where we see more of Hell than ever before– both Crowley’s “dining room” there, several passageways, and the “stage cage” in Limbo), where time in Hell parallels exactly the characters who are still on Earth. While waiting for Dean and then Cas to arrive, for example, Sam only spends about half an hour with Lucifer in the cage alone, and Crowley and Rowena only spend the same amount of in-show time there as it takes for Dean and Cas to arrive, respectively. Finally, we have 8.19, wherein we know Sam had exactly 24 hours to break into Hell, retrieve Bobby, and escape to be picked up by the reaper who never arrived because Crowley was killed. Sam’s time “in Hell” exactly paralleled Dean’s time on Earth, as well as “purgatory time,” which we know runs approximately parallel to Earth Time after Dean spent “about a year” there.
So the logical conclusion is that “Hell Time” is malleable, but that Dean’s experience there was… unique. According to the prophecy they were ALL trying to bring about, Dean was put on the Break-The-Righteous-Man-Speed-Run plan. And I do believe this was a highly specific circumstance, and that Dean’s “Hell Time Dilation” was specific to his time in Hell, and not a universal blanket statement on how time works in Hell in general.
So… I postulate that John only spent those 8-10 months in “normal time” in Hell. And despite Alastair’s taunts in 4.16:
Alastair: John Winchester. Made a good name for himself. A hundred years. After each session, I’d make him the same offer I made you. I’d put down my blade if he picked one up.Dean: Just give me the demon’s name, Alastair.Alastair: But he said nein each and every time. Oh, damned if I couldn’t break him. Pulled out all the stops, but John, he was, well, made of something unique. The stuff of heroes. And then came Dean. Dean Winchester. I thought I was up against it again. But daddy’s little girl, he broke. He broke in thirty. Oh, just not the man your daddy wanted you to be, huh, Dean?
Because JOHN WAS NEVER THE ONE THAT NEEDED TO BREAK. But Alastair was intimately familiar with Dean’s experience, intimately familiar with how to HURT DEAN SPECIFICALLY, and this was an excellent try. But John… was NEVER the righteous man who needed to break, according to the prophecy. It ALWAYS had to be Dean. So… why would John have been tortured that way?
Not to mention, if John HAD been literally strapped to Alastair’s table, tortured constantly for his entire time in Hell, then how the heck did he manage to sneak out the Hellgate in 2.22? Like… think about it for a second.
The demons who escaped were essentially “in the right place at the right time,” because the one demon Azazel was trying to let out– which we won’t learn until 4.22– was Lilith.
We assume that the other demons who managed to sneak through before the gates were slammed shut happened to be Lilith-adjacent– such as Ruby (who knew Lilith’s whole plan from the start), and other demons who were already loyal to Lilith (such as Casey from 3.04, and Tammi from 3.09, and eventually all the demons Lilith surrounded herself with in 3.12 and 3.16).
And yet… out strolled John Winchester. Because Hell literally didn’t need him anymore. Dean had already made his deal. The clock was ticking on the guy they ACTUALLY needed. And heck if that doesn’t parallel exactly what Zachariah said to Adam in 5.18:
ZACHARIAH: Hey, don’t get me wrong. You’ve been a hell of a sport, really. Good stuff. But the thing is, you’re not so much the “chosen one” as you are…a clammy scrap of bait.ADAM: No…but what about the stuff that you said? I’m supposed to fight the devil.ZACHARIAH: Mmm, not so much. Hey, if it’s any consolation, you happen to be the illegitimate half-brother of the guy we do care about. That’s not bad, is it?ADAM: So you lied…about everything.ZACHARIAH: We didn’t lie. We just avoided certain truths to manipulate you.
Because that’s the thing with this show– Heaven and Hell are pretty much the same. Sam goals, same methods, same objectives, just with a different set of aesthetics, a different interior decorator if you will.
If John had actually been tortured the way Alastair claimed in 4.16, would he have just been at liberty to conveniently stroll through the gate in 2.22? Would he have even been able to leave at all? Would he have looked so fresh as a daisy? I mean
Looks pretty good for a dude just strolled outta hell, you know? Not even the least bit demon-y, right? And we know it takes a heck of a lot less time than a century for a human soul to be demonized in Hell… So everything else– aside from Alastair’s statement to Dean in 4.16, which was a deliberately targeted barb specifically said to make Dean doubt himself while he was actively torturing the demon who’d tortured HIM for four decades and therefore HIGHLY suspect in context of the rest of canon– would suggest that John had been basically stashed in Hell’s Cold Storage for about 8 months while the demons were meticulously arranging circumstances on Earth to set up the events of 2.21-2.22, luring Dean into selling his soul for Sam, and Azazel getting the Devil’s Gate opened to let Lilith escape.
Because strangely enough, I believe the Crossroads Demon in 2.08 more than I trust Alastair in 4.16:
DEAN: Can you bring him back? My dad?DEMON: Of course I can. Just as he was. Your dad would live a long and natural life, like he was meant to. That’s a promise.DEAN: What about me?DEMON: I could give you ten years. Ten long good years with him. That’s a lifetime. The family can be together again. John, Dean, Sammy. The Winchester boys all reunited. (she advances towards him) Look. Your dad’s supposed to be alive. You’re supposed to be dead. So we’ll just set things straight, put things back in their natural order. And you get ten extra years on top. That’s a bonus.
John was never the one they actually wanted. John was never going to work as the Righteous Man, or as Michael’s True Vessel for the purposes of the specific prophecies of the Apocalypse. As Gabriel once said in 5.08:
GABRIEL: You sorry sons of bitches. Why do you think you two are the vessels? Think about it. Michael, the big brother, loyal to an absent father, and Lucifer, the little brother, rebellious of Daddy’s plan. You were born to this, boys. It’s your destiny! It was always you! As it is in heaven, so it must be on earth. One brother has to kill the other.DEAN: What the hell are you saying?GABRIEL: Why do you think I’ve always taken such an interest in you? Because from the moment Dad flipped on the lights around here, we knew it was all gonna end with you. Always.
So… no, I think John’s tenure in Hell was probably a boring (compared to Dean’s) few months spent adjacent to Lilith so she could keep an eye on him in case Dean did take some sort of demon deal to trade his life back for John’s before they were scheduled to.
And finally, a bit of a Doylist justification for all of that: I don’t think any of this was planned back when s2 was being written. I don’t think they’d considered the later retcon of s4 and Dean’s “forty years” in Hell while writing s2. I don’t think they’d thought any of this was part of some larger prophecy of the Apocalypse yet. None of that came about until 4.01, because there had NEVER been any intent to introduce Angels or Heaven into the cosmology of that universe until that point anyway. So… they made the most out of what they had already stated canonically, and left it to us to make the most sense out of it. And this ^^ is my best, least plot-holey, most canon-compliant theory based on the entirety of canon. :)

Lone wolves are not alone…
Today we live in the time of fear, the kingdom of degeneration. All around us spreads a sick world which refuses however to die. The world of economy falls but does not collapse. All preachers of every ideology, scientists, economists, journalists, politicians, sociologists, syndicalists, leftists, humanitarians, agree to a common truth, called “economic crisis”.
Thus the ghost of the economic crisis hovers above the formerly privileged territory of the western civilization, after leaving behind it hecatombs of dead people and ruins of war in the “undeveloped countries” of the rest of the world.
But we refuse the truth they offer us. We refuse to be lost in mathematical equations, economical terms and loan contracts. We refuse to accept that life is shoved into statistics. Numbers cannot explain why our existence gets poorer. We speak of a different poverty and not only the poverty of the supermarkets. We speak of the poverty in words, emotions, thoughts, wanderings, tensions. We speak of the unity which resides inside the modern people-pets of the cages of the metropolis who by themselves imprisoned themselves.
Today there is a crisis which makes our life poorer, but this is not the economic crisis, it is the crisis of values. Society traded the values of freedom, respect, solidarity, dignity, with a position in consumerist paradise. Now is the time for it to fall in its hell, since today it experiences the collapsing of the system which it faithfully prayed to all these years.
The ambassadors of the modern way of life speak of the savior of economy through corrective changes and development programs, while the ideologists of the left beg for the cleansing of institutions. Unfortunately, in Greece the tension of bureaucratic social anarchy also joins the dance of the absurd and fantasies the revival of dead ideologies speaking of self-management of the production means and workers collectives.
Thus the socialist anarchists, while refusing the system, instead of destroying class identities and economy, speak their language. They speak of the overthrowing of the existent, without however uprooting from inside them the economic-centric logic. For us, as anarcho-individualists and nihilists, economy is not the key for liberation. Economy is a part of the problem and the problem itself. The only way to strike the heart of the problem is to destroy the economy and its distinctions and speak of human relations. The world will not become prettier or more free if we collectivize work but only if we blow up the relation of work and destroy its mentality, its ethics and culture. The same will happen with friendship, love, pleasure, the meaning of life itself.
On the road for continuous anarchist insurrection we do not keep anything which holds us down on the past. We tear down the myths of the revolutionary subject, of the proletariat, of the eternal wait for the right objective conditions, the social likeness towards the population, this slow moving mass which with its inactivity stops us from breathing….
Therefore, looking back in time, we recognize as our own prints, the traces left behind by some lone wolves, who walked then against their time. It is all those conspiratorial anarchists illegalists who made the anarchist insurrection their only home land. It is those who chose to stay away from the glory of the dead ideologies and bureaucracy of the social anarchism which awaits the masses in order to begin its insurrection. Lone and unique they armed their desires, out aside the pathetic rot of the mob and went on to the storming of heaven.
Their star fills our eyes, the fire floods our thoughts, the vendetta of revenge beats in our hearts and, our hands embrace the guns and dynamite which they inherited to us. We live for an endless explosion of actions, thoughts, feelings, desires, which reaches the edge of the world.
There is no nostalgia, there is only today, while tomorrow is already late. Today is our turn, our life, our time.
Anarcho-individualism and nihilism, the gates of the new anarchy, invite us. In the era of generalized crisis, the sun of the new anarchy continues to rise. Now that the global economy is ill, we do not look for the “just” social cure, but on the contrary we seek the poison for its final death.
As we wrote above, life, before being strangled biologically from the economic crisis, had already been cut in its desperation, the illusions and the loneliness of modern society.
It is important therefore, to think, to feel and attack against anything which glorifies the empire of authority, against anything which preserves the religion of economy, anything which carries the death of silence and immobility. And if sometimes we seem like lone crazy people, the sure thing is that we are not alone. We live in a home full of voices, dreams, desires, laughter, melancholies, actions… Our home has no hosts and guests; it belongs to all of us. In our home we do not speak just one language but many and we always communicate with our eyes.
The basement of our home is full of weapons, explosives, plans, communiques, whatever the enemy snatches from us, our hands and desires will never remain unarmed. At the table of our home there are always spaces and glasses of wine for new friends and comrades who we never met before. There are as well some empty places for the brothers and sisters who are absent, for our dead, for the wanted, for the imprisoned, but their glasses are always full because they are always next us too. Our home has no doors, no rooms, not even walls. Our home has no roof because it would hide the sky and stars. Our home has no windows because it would stop the wind. Our home has no street or number. Our home has no name and lives in our hearts.
Our home is FAI-IRF and we will never abandon it, neither in the easy moments nor the tough times.
FAI-IRF is the lost Atlantis of the practical theory. It is the meeting point of thought and action, imagination and the present, violence with poetry, desire with decision, the ‘I’ with the us…
This moment it is important that there are many dozens of anarchist individualities and cells participating in the network FAI-IRF. FAI-IRF is an illegal anarchist union of egoists which despises the gather-ism of Marxist organizations and the bureaucracy of the anarchist reformists.
There is no protocol or rules. Our only compass is our values: direct action, anarchist critique towards the social silence, international solidarity, constant insurrection… At the same time all of us anarchists of praxis preserve unquenchable the desire to continuously recreate the formation of FAI-IRF with as an epicenter the human desires. We do not even feel the need to propose to society some ready-made recipe for happiness. Our life does not need ready-made solutions. Besides, experimentation even a mistake is the best way for the discovery of freedom. From the still waters of traditional ideologies you can expect only poison.
The insurrectionist-nihilist anarchist thought remains alive, not as a flawless and final ideology, but on the contrary when it seeks the dialectic confrontation either in order to try itself by overpassing the disagreements it has to confront, or when it discovers its gaps and re creates itself with beginning point evolution. Thus, also FAI-IRF is not the end of the road of final utopia but one of the roads for the constant course towards anarchy.
This is why when someone reads the dozens of responsibility claims of the cells of FAI-IRF internationally they will locate some differences, even some disagreements. This is the beauty and uniqueness of the new anarchy. Besides the basic values shared by us the conspirators of the Black International, there are the specificities of each one of us which promote the constant search of our existence.
Because we will always discover independent areas of ourselves, unknown passions, unlimited desires which arm the bet of Existence, replacing the misery and correctness of economic equations which are praised by the overgrown revolutionary ideologies.
Today FAI-IRF is not simply an idea, just as the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire is not limited to the land of the Greek state. Our desire is to not drain ourselves at making our existence known. Our spreading to dozens of countries transfers us to an asymmetric threat for the interior of the states. The CCF of Mexico transforms the words into fire, in Russia and Belarus the Conspiracy transforms the frozen rooftops into lava, and in Italy the Olga cell of FAI writes its own poetry with bullets. At the same time dozens of conspirators in Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Spain, England, Poland, Greece, Indonesia, Australia conspire with chaos and transfer the fire of anarchy into the foundations of the existent.
This is why we constantly create new invisible crossroads of meeting and communication in order to talk about the death of the existence and the storm of new anarchy. We want our fire to be written in all languages. Tireless comrades constantly translate prisoners texts, books, responsibility claims, while at the same time solidarity is internationalized and the FAI-IRF network becomes the Lernaen Hydra of the new anarchy. For every arrest of a cell, two new ones are ready to attack.
Thus we enter the land of continuous anarchist insurrection. In our uncontrollable course for the destruction of authority, we meet across us the enemy and its conservative powers, but besides them there is still a lot of excuses, inhibitions and dilemmas which attempt to make our feet heavy, bothering our walk. Often these camouflaged cowardices disguised as theoretical analysis live in the bureaucracy of the circles of social anarchism which hopes for the mass awakening of society. Thus the words “anarchy” “direct action” “anarchist insurrection” get confused, they lose their sharp content and remain handicapped going around like harmless blabbering in student amphitheaters… This is why we see in Bolivia that there is an “anarchist organization” which states its conformity to the state authorities and is indifferent to the imprisoned Bolivian comrades accused of being part of FAI, in Italy parasitic anarcho-hippies who with a text of theirs condemned and slandered the action of the Olga cell of FAI, in Germany a part of the anarchists forget and slander the imprisoned comrades (e.g. Aachen4 case) while in Greece many from the anti-authoritarian movement discuss about whether or not they will vote for Syriza (left party) in the elections and generally there being a turn towards collectivization through workers and “white” democratic assemblies.
We on our side want to avoid such misunderstandings and make this confusion untouchable. Therefore it is necessary that we make a clear separating line between the insurrectionist-nihilistic circles and the refuges of reformism. This is why we would like every text and act of ours to be immediately recognized, adopting our own stigma. The stigma of continuous anarchist attack.
But it is not enough to speak about the attack, on the contrary we desire to be a part of the attack. This is why through this text we want to throw a proposition into the fire of the battle. a proposition which is being discussed for some time now in the circles of the new anarchy in Greece. We mean the transmission of technical knowledge and experiences for the construction of explosive and incendiary devices and for the spreading of other forms of sabotage. Through small printed practical manuals or through digital form on the internet we can share information, patents, technical points, ideas, applications, diagrams and enrich our arsenal. When knowledge and experience are shared, they become dangerous. First of all it brings down the separation between theory and practice and the myth of the “specialists” of violence is abolished. At the same time the fetishisms of Marxist ideological rigidities about the avant-guard of “armed struggle” are withdrawn and the illusions of the hierarchy of the means cease. Between the bullet in the head of a cop and the rock in window front there is an invisible line connecting them.
We want to make this line visible. Everything is for everyone, there are not specialists of violence, there are individualities and choices…
We do not share our choices only by speaking and writing texts against the state and its society but also when we offer each other possible practical ways.
To make our theory practice. This is why we propose to the comrades of the FAI-IRF that we proceed to the publication of manuals which describe i.e. the way to construct an explosive mechanism, the wiring of a time bomb, the assembling of a parcel bomb, the use of a home-made system of time-delaying in incendiary attacks, the strengthening of the destructive power of a molotov, the synthesis and mixtures of ingredients for the creation of explosive materials… also our “work” in the chaotic arts of sabotage can open its thematology from the destruction of cameras, the blocking of ATMs and the construction of home-made smoke bombs up to burgling and stealing cars and motorbikes and the conservation and use of weapons.
All this knowledge which is conquered everyday and cannot and shouldn’t be a privilege of an initiated elite of veterans of praxis. On the contrary we want to acquire a common arsenal with all anarchists of praxis where we will share ideas and practices in order to strengthen the constant anarchist insurrection against the Existing. Thus, comrades which carry inside them the wolf of praxis, but have not yet acquired technical knowledge in order to intensify their attacks against the social structures of the system, now with this proposition get access to an endless stock of destructive and chaotic ingenuity which will strengthen their fire.
Of course these practical manuals will not be considered the “holy bible” of the anarchists of praxis since they will be constantly renewed and enriched, since the experimentation and searching never stops.
Also we stress that because of the public character of the spreading of the techniques and the forms of sabotage, it is sure that the eyes of the police will constantly be on our attempt.
This is why this letter is made with special attention. Not only so the enemy cannot track us, but also so we don’t give them information they don’t know, helping them without meaning to, “neutralize” our attacks. For example in the presentation of a time bomb, there will always be variations so the police are confused and it is not easy to deactivate it without the danger of blowing up their bomb disposal team.
This way we strengthen the union of anarcho-individualists - nihilists promoting the constant clash with the world of authority and the social mass. It’s the new way of the new anarchy to attack without relying on the vague sympathy for the proletariat and the economism of classes, but instead abolishing the classes themselves. Neither rich nor poor, neither bosses nor workers, but autonomous individuals with anarchist values and choices.
At the same time we abandon the victimized image of the “social fighter”, who is being attacked by the state. Several comrades of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire and nuclei of FAI are now in prison, from where we write this text. Not for a moment however do we beg for our “rights” from the state, nor do we invoke its laws. When we chose to arm ourselves and to assassinate social peace, we knew the consequence of the choice we made. The fact that we are in the prisons of the enemy does not make us harmless. We are creating and organizing 10, 100, 1000 cells of the Informal Anarchist Federation and the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire. Neither will we become “anarchist writers” who will publish our theories from inside prison. Our words are our thoughts which were anxious to become actions. Every day, every night we breathe for them. We still have some scores to set with the existent and we keep the knife between our teeth. Our strategy is to make chaos our friend. That is where all forces of the negative are liberated. Conventions, hypocrisies, ethics, cowardices are abolished there.
Brothers and Sisters let’s dare everything. Political executions, blowing up government buildings, bank robberies, arsons of symbols of authority, molotov on the cops, knifes in fascists, communiques, texts, discussions and whatever promotes the spreading of the new anarchy and the progression of the Black International of the Anarchists of Praxis.
DIRECT CONSTANT ANARCHIST INSURRECTION
P.S. The text “Lone wolves are not alone… FAI/ IRF/CCF” is dedicated to our brothers and sisters all around the world, to the dead, the prisoners and those wanted…
In this difficult time we send our most warm greetings to the wanted comrades in Greece: G. Mihailidis and D. Politis, who are accused for participation in the CCF, the wanted comrade in Mexico, FR, and the imprisoned comrade Mario Lopez who was injured by an incendiary device he was transferring.
At the same time our thought and heart is next to the comrades in Italy who are experiencing repeated oppressive operations.
Strength comrades.
