Moonlight spills through the curtains of sorrow, Illuminating the emptiness of tomorrow. Frames of longing, etched in the glass, Reflections of yearning, moments that pass.

Raindrops dance on the cold windowpane, Tapping out a rhythm of lingering pain. A symphony of solitude in the quiet night, Echoes of a heartache, hidden from sight.

Behind the glass, a solitary figure stands, Gazing beyond, to distant, unseen lands. Eyes mirroring the stars, distant and cold, A universe within, a story untold.

Through the windows of a lonely soul, A kaleidoscope of emotions takes control. Fragments of dreams, shattered and lost, A mosaic of memories, a heavy cost.

Yet, in the solitude, resilience is found, A strength within, profound and unbound. Windows may fog, and tears may flow, But within the heart, seeds of hope grow.

The sun will rise, a new day to unfold, Painting the windows with hues of gold. Loneliness may linger, like a fleeting mist, But love's warmth persists, in shadows kissed.

So, let the windows of the lonely soul speak, A language of resilience, not defeat. For in the silence, a quiet strength lies, And through the tears, the soul still flies.

I left the light on tonight.

Because some nights get too dark to be alone in. I feel the crippling sensation inch its way up my skin, and I remember the touch that is long gone. It's absent. It's just memories of him. In the dark of my room, I might pretend he's here still. I would dare to let my mind wander and create a vision of him striding towards the bed. It would soothe the ache for only a moment. Until I realized he's not real. I'm alone still. It's just me in my bed. So I keep the light on to avoid dreams of him.

It works, of course, but only until my eyes grow too heavy and betray me. Because he will wait behind the veil of sleep and in the subconscious of my mind. Or is it the heart that runs rampant in the late hours beneath moonlight? Is this when matters of the heart come out to play? Is each heartbeat another dream waiting to be seen? Maybe that's why our dreams never seem to make sense but feel all too real? We silence the yearnings of the muscle deep within, but when our defenses cease to exist.. can it finally release what it holds deep and dear?

If so, my heart calls out for him. There's no convincing it to quiet or to accept reality. No. It is unrelenting. Hell bent. Never giving up on what felt too real. It'll leave me breathless in the wake of its sweet torture. It'll hurt worse than any other affliction. It'll hurt. So I leave the light on in hopes it's enough to drive it all away. The dark isn't safe. Not for a heart drowning in melancholy rains.
