whats a weapon you want to see be used in ninjago? and what elemental master would wield it? could be a magical weapon or a regular weapon that the em channels their power through
HMM this type of ask wasn't EXACTLY what I had in mind but I would love to see an EM using a battle axe I can't lie. I think the EM in question would be a master of metal, who could continuously strengthen the blade in battle Idk... the wielder can def channel their power into it I feel.

for your mercole au, is he a specific species of fish? or is that sort of ambiguous like most merpeople? also, i noticed cole tying algae bracelets to kai’s(?) wrist, will he be an important character in the au? love your cole design a lot btw 💛
I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition of it! Cole is my favorite to brainstorm with on AUs ♡♡♡
At first, I designed Cole as just a typical ambiguous mermaid, but I think it'll be more interesting if he were to be a kind of fish! I want to make each design unique to their own.
This is the first draft design I made! Anatomy is not that good, but I just want to point out the markings that would be present on Cole.
Tumblr media
I don't have a set type of fish yet, since there's a huge variety! Some of the suggestions I got is Cole being an asian arowana or a stonefish. Please do tell me if there's any you'd like to add!
Cole's a pretty fish with a crabby friend 🐟🦀
In the general AU, Kai is one of the first humans Cole befriended! (Perhaps something more if you want something lava related!) He makes algae bracelets to those he is very close with as a merpeople tradition, I think. Thank you for the ask!

obviously the Historical Figure Episode(TM) of Doctor Who that I’d write would of the Noted Author subset endemic to the RTD Era; it’d be called “Spiders in the Trenches” and be set in the middle of World War One ft. one Lt. John Tolkien.
idk if the main aliens are spiders or if they're just using giant robotic spiders as soldier-minions. Either way, Tolkien is a little too defensive when he says he's not afraid of spiders.
The alien invaders want some sort of shiny mcguffin, maybe as a power source for their ship? Or for a mega-weapon? We do not want them to get it, at any rate. Race to find the Shiny Power Jewel-Thing which has been lost somewhere in this like 20-mile radius of the Western Front.
When our heroes narrowly beat the spiders to the SPJT, Tolkien realizes that the spiders only ever attack at night because light hurts them somehow, so he holds the SPJT up as it flares and shouts, "Get back, foul creatures! Back into the shadows from whence you came!"
(They're from the dark side of a tidally locked planet, and made for extremely low-light conditions? The SPJT flares because it's controlled telepathically and it connected to Tolkien's mind when he touched it?)
Ideally Tolkien's first encounter with the Doctor is that he wakes up in the trench one day (after losing some men to a mysterious monster in the darkness a couple nights ago?), and there's 2 random strangers in weird clothes idly singing and playing an instrument which they stole from someone a couple bedrolls down. (This works well with Fifteen & Ruby's established inclination to music!)
We do need an Eowyn Moment, because that's iconic, but I'd split it: for dialogue, at one point the head boss evil alien boasts, "No human can defeat the Tenebrarachnid Empire!" and the Doctor replies, "Good thing they've got me, then."...
[I don't know if this is a Fifteen line yet. I know it's a very Eleven line]
...and there's a soldier in Tolkien's unit who is revealed to be secretly a woman! Who disguised herself as a man in order to enlist for ??? reasons, and who dramatically pulls off her hat to reveal her long hair.
The third notable local character is the sort who inspired Sam Gamgee, "...the English soldier, [like] the privates and batmen I knew in the 1914 war, and recognized as so far superior to myself.”
^those two can have a romantic subplot if it fits (comrades-in-arms is also extremely good). Tolkien, however, at some point shows Ruby the picture of his wife Edith which he carries at all times, she of the black hair and bright grey eyes, and is obviously ready to monologue about how wonderful she is.
In the same scene(?), Tolkien looks up at the stars and says their brightness shining afar, clear of all the horrors on the ground, is always a source of hope and strength to him.
Maybe also in the same scene? Tolkien is shown to make up stories for fun, or to read them in his little spare time - fairy tales and mythological epics. Maybe he tells them to the men around the fire, maybe he keeps a little notebook, maybe he just admits to daydreaming... When asked why, he paraphrases his quote from later life, " Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?"
At some point (Star-watching scene? when the Doctor inevitably has to explain that aliens exist? when they're all saying goodbye in the end?) there's a line drawing attention to the Doctor's parallels with Eärendil - eternally wandering figure of hope, sailing the stars in a ship with a light on top, not quite mortal...
Tolkien DEFINITELY tries to figure out the alien language, in writing or speech.
Something the aliens are doing is making people sick. Maybe the attacking robo-spiders are venomous, maybe there's a toxic byproduct of the alien ship, maybe it's a deliberate first assault of the planned invasion... By the end of the episode, Tolkien is very ill. The Doctor has figured out an antidote and given it, but Tolkien says goodbye to him and Ruby only to stumble to a medical outpost - from where, the Doctor explains to Ruby, he'll be sent home with this bad case of what's assumed to be trench fever. Between the fever and the brief psychic entanglement, and unentanglement, with the SPJT, he won't even remember most of this, and what he does remember, he'll put down to fever dreams amidst the horrors of war.
But he'll remember some things! He'll remember an eternal wanderer of the stars, unaging and undying and ever-hopeful, heralded by light (and a vworrrp vrorrrp noise).

Drafting the Adventure: To the dungeon!
Recently I worked out a framework for running exploration based adventures , and while a lot of people seemed to like it, a few folks wrote in asking how it might work in practice. I’m only too happy to provide an example, as it will likewise give me the chance to demonstrate how to combine a wilderness adventure with a dungeon adventure, which is something I wanted to do anyway.
Background: the party is sent off to seek an arcane mcguffin contained in an ancient ruin, with the caveat that no one really remembers where the ruin might be. As such they’ll have to explore a stretch of wilderness looking for signs of old habitation before getting to delve the dungeon itself.
Setup: In addition to gearing up The party might want to talk with some locals to get information about where they're going, which will allow you to drop clues about further places they cam explore. Any Entry marked with a (G) can be hinted at in gossip and research, providing them a hint about where to go.
FIRST ZONE : The Ancient Plains
"Cool winds steal the warmth from your cheeks as your party steps into the wilderness, your goal and the mountains far in the distance and a vast rolling grassland before you. This place was the site of a great battle that nearly destroyed your home, but is now quiet save for the murmur of the tallgrass and your own footfalls.
Tumblr media
Design Note: The party can either choose to head to one of the locations they've already heard about/discovered, or spend time trying to find a new location with a perception or survival check, with you rolling a die to decide which one to point them at first. Once the random encounter is unlocked, add one die to the pool every time they travel to an area, and two die if their searching for a new area falls below a reasonable dc.
SECOND ZONE: The Forgotten Foothills
"Like the fingers of a grasping titan, the roots of the mountain-range pull at the earth giving rise to steep ascents and sudden valleys. The trickle of pure glacial melt runs in small streams over this uneven landscape, giving you a refreshing if bonechilling respite from your long travels."
Tumblr media
Design Note: Now rather than making simple progress, the party needs to actively hunt for the location of the ruins, with the understanding that taking a surface look at different locations is going to bring a random encounter or two down on their heads REAL fast.
Also shoutout to Yithini, my homebrew goddess of ascension in all its forms.
THIRD ZONE: The Cascading Ruins
"It was no wonder it was so hard to find this old fortress, as the waters pouring down from the cliffs above seem intent on wiping it from the mountainside. The noise and the crush of endless water rumbles in your bones as you make your approach, up a slick half eroded stair that might've been part of the structure's battlements. Most of the structure is lost in the pool of rushing white water below, but a few stretches of old fortification still manage to withstand the siege of time. "

oho? I love playing with character perceptions, so number 11 got my immediate interest!
AND THE LAST ASK for real thank you for sending in so many and another thank you to anyone who sent in any ask at all this was a blast:
Turns out this connected to a different document. I desperately need to clean out my drive ANWAY
11! "A large part of the Steve Harrington lore was that he left his throne, his popularity, childhood best friends, behind for Nancy Wheeler. This was a lie."
Snippet:
A thump as the object rolled out of its bag and onto the floor.
It was a wooden baseball bat, same as one might find anywhere--with one noticeable difference.
"Steve." Eddie said simply, eyes raking over the haphazardly hammered nails, some of which were bent from use, "What the hell is this?"
Steve at least, had the good graces to look abashed. "Ahhh…" He said, trailing off as he clearly fished for anything other than the truth and came up empty. "A nailbat?"
Spoken out loud it even sounded like a fucking fantasy weapon.
"Is that blood all over it?" Eddie asked, tone amazingly even given the panic that galloped wildly through his chest.
The fucking thing wasn't entirely covered but there was unmistakable red and black splatter that was either the product of the world's best prop artist, or the real deal.
"If it makes you feel any better, I don't think any of the blood is human." Steve said, who overall looked more embarrassed than anything.
Like Eddie has found his porno mags, and not whatever the hell this was.
"No Steve, that does not make me feel better." Eddie managed to get out, the words a little strangled. "You don't think the blood's human? What the hell do you think it is!?"
Because he had to know. There was no way he could not know, with a literal McGuffin, sitting in between them.
In fact this entire set up felt like something right of of a D&D scene and once Eddie was done panicking, he kinda wanted to write down a few notes.
There was a very long, dedicated pause, where once again it became very clear Steve was racking his brain for a lie.
Eddie let it go on, because he wanted to hear what possible excuse the guy could come up for this.
Particularly given that Eddie had once shared an English class with him. Steve Harrington was about as imaginative as a child's first chapter book (and frankly, the book probably knew more words.)
"Rabid dogs?" Steve said, sounding more like he was guessing than anything else.
How he had gotten away with lying to the cops about those house parties of his was a downright mystery.
"Rabid dogs that just might be human." Eddie deadpanned.
Steve winced.
"I might have swung it at a few people." He admitted.
"No shit." Eddie said, staring at him flatly. It almost felt like he was two people for a moment--a perfectly calm one, demanding answers out of a nervous and clearly spooked Steve Harrington like disappointed mother discovering a baggie of weed--and a person who wanted to fucking book it, immediately.
Before Harrington lost his shit and started swinging the nailbat at him.
There was no reason for King Steve, richest boy in town and previously its most popular (though given Hargroves penchant for violence, Eddie didn't doubt a lot of people would accept Steve back with open arms so long as the guy stood in between them) to own a clearly used homemade weapon.
"Okay look, you've caught me in a lot of lies and I'm gonna be real with you, this one came with an NDA." Steve said finally, like that wasn't a wild string of words. "The less you know about it, the better."
And that, Eddie could agree with.

Hi, Lost. I recently saw a discussion about Ackermans and how Levi never mentioned to Mikasa the possibility of them being distantly relative. And it suggests that Levi doesn't actually reveal that he's an Ackerman to the others, at least, not to a lot of people. I always assumed Levi and Mikasa at least discussed this off-scene but anyway, we all know Levi definitely talked to Erwin about it. Knowing Erwin's curiosity and personality, there is no way he wasn't obsessed with the idea of a clan of, basically, titan slayers. He loves a good mystery and they would be too important for Survey Corps and Paradis in general. It's weird that this Ackerman thing was never explored other than "yeah Levi and Mikasa are OP don't question it" because I don't know about you but I would be so interested in freaking super soldiers living amongst us and I believe so was Erwin. We were robbed of that conversation, it'd give us so much Eruri material I believe :(
Hi Anon, sorry it’s taken me so long to answer your ask. You're definitely not the only one to be frustrated with the lack of information and resolution about the Ackermans. People waited years for Levi and Mikasa to have “the Ackertalk”, but when it finally came in chapter 63 it left everyone pretty disappointed. It did happen though, and Levi does suggest to Mikasa that they may be related.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was a glimmer of hope that more would be revealed when the Ackermans were referred to as a “subproduct of Titan science” in chapter 93.  That really set the cat amongst the pigeons, but again, we got no further explanation about what that actually meant, either in the manga or in any of the supplementary materials. The only subsequent information we got about the Ackermans were Eren’s lies to Mikasa in chapter 112, where he claimed that Ackermans were slaves to their host, and Zeke revealing in chapter 130 that there’s nothing magical about the so-called Ackerbond, it’s just love.
Tumblr media
A lot of the additional information we have about the Ackermans comes from interviews with Isayama in the supplementary guidebooks, and it’s confusing at best and contradictory at worst.  For example, in chapter 65 Grandpa Ackerman tells Kenny that the king’s power to alter memories does not work on the Ackermans, and that this is one of the reasons they were feared and persecuted by the crown. However, later in the manga Eren was clearly able to alter Mikasa's memories, so that doesn’t add up. It's almost like Isayama was just making it up as he went along!
Tumblr media
The lack of resolution around the Ackermans is just one of a number of threads that Isayama never tied up, which includes HIstoria’s arc and Mikasa’s relationship to the Azumabito clan.  It’s frustrating, because the Ackerman lore had so much potential, but none of it was ever developed, and at the end of the day they were a bit of a McGuffin. (Levi McGuffin doesn’t quite have the same ring to it though 😂)  Having said that, I can understand why Isayama shelved the Ackerman backstory, because it wasn’t really central to the plot. Also Levi, Mikasa and Kenny didn’t need any additional lore to make them really compelling and popular characters.
If you're interested, I've got a post collating all the canon information about the Ackermans from the manga and the guidebooks: Ackermans Master Post.
With regards to how much Erwin knew about the Ackermans, there’s nothing in the manga, but I agree that once he discovered the connection between Levi and Kenny he would definitely have made it his business to find out more.  I wrote a tiny ficlet once about Erwin learning Levi’s name, it’s called Everything and Nothing
The words have been rattling around inside Erwin’s skull for days. Clattering against each other, discordant, disconcerting.
When they finally pass his lips one is familiar on his tongue, familiar as his own breath, the other foreign, sharp and bitter in his mouth.
“Levi.”
Levi’s head turns towards him on the pillow.
“What?”
“Ackerman.”
“Don’t.”
He turns away again.
“I always wondered…”
“I didn’t know.”
Erwin runs one finger lightly over Levi’s shoulder.
“I know, but it makes sense somehow.”
“Don’t.”
Levi is silent for a moment.
“It doesn’t change who I am. It doesn’t change anything.”
Erwin looks down at the black hair feathering over the pillow beside him. The pulse flickering in his neck; blue blood below porcelain white skin.
Ackerman.
Erwin leans down and presses his lips to Levi’s throat, to the pulse.
“Levi,” he says again.
It changes everything. And nothing.

Thoughts on BKO so far -
It's so refreshing to see a protag care about his mom and having his mom care about them in return :')
She gives him money through letters - like pocket money - and writes to him to ask how he's doing, Sagi even returns her affection so much that him caring about his mom will later be a plot point lol
I'm surprised that the game was still released in 2023 without changes made to the script, Guillo calling Geldoblame a fop and a "prissy fellow"? Could be chalked up to Guillo being in general a sarcastic tin can, but still it's... well, it has nearly been 18 years, and I must say, what was acceptable then might not be seen as "acceptable" nowadays.
Milly, despite being obviously the mole and oddly looking upset when some events are revealed, is well integrated to the plot, she often talks (nonsense), talks to NPCs (with various cutscenes demonstrating how she wasn't lying when she said she's a rich kid!), and has lines durings various bosses, from shit talking a young!Giacomo (despite us taking a beating each time he pops up!) - the one who is basically the former protag's nemesis - to being humiliated by a lava fish...
Bar the comments about Geldoblame, Guillo is basically the brains in the trio and the one who's here to voice the player's thoughts whenever some NPC, usually the totes not shady Verus "I know where you live and where your mom is, but it just shows how much I care about you, it's totally not creepy nor means I had you under my careful watch for a long time and now sends you to deal with various life threatening situations" says something that, well, that NPC isn't supposed to know. Heck, my fave line from Guillo is basically a mix of "how the hell do YOU know that?".
Unlike what I felt was the epic of gathering McGuffins and discovering places to save the world - with a traitor twist - I feel like BKO is more about Sagi being framed for X or Y reasons, and manipulated to be sent to fight against bosses we are scripted to lose again + rinse'n'repeat.
The game seems more dialogue heavy with several back and forths to the same place (the terrorist subplot...), but it's not that much of a hassle since, for now, the intrigue is interesting enough and, well, the OST/aesthetics are pleasing and pleasant enough.
That, and the trillions of NPCs who just exist to insult you because you're a peasant, or gush about their captain of the knights in less than NOA-friendly ways lol, the ones who happily exploit you charging 400 gold for something that was basically free in the first game, or the bajillion sidequests.
Also I love the "flashback in the really far far away past" to basically explain what happened in the world 1k years ago -
Baten Kaitos Origins is a prequel, both to Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Oceans, but also, has those 1k years ago flashbacks that basically tell/explain you what happened a long time ago, and how the events of legends - muddled as they were - happened.
By virtue of being a prequel, we know how it ends, it's basically a story that ends up in a tragedy, if Sagi'n'Milly are truly Melodia's parents, then they are Canas'd (they managed to survive to a world ending plot, but die to a flu).
Lyude was treated like shit by his half siblings Vallye and Skeed?
Oh wait, wasn't Sagi the one who told them (and their mom) that dad was basically cheating on her (forgetting his son's bday!) which later gave them a new sib?
Like, dude, for sure Lyuvann (the dad) should have kept his pole in his pants, but why giving the reveal to Camilla (the wife) that her husband was cheating on her with a woman named Almarde - with the holograms and all lol - in front of the kids?
Of course their first reaction is "my father would never", but when Almarde (the mistress) is hired to take care of Lyude - who's their sibling and popped up... well, not from Camilla, like...
They know the supposed nanny was Dad's mistress, and now they have a half-sib and the nanny looks after him? Hello?
Now it recontextualises Skeed shooting Almarde in BKEWLO, was it only because she was threatening them (when they were ready to shoot Lyude) or because he might have wanted to settle old grudges? Hell, even Lydue's mind-probing by the giant monster that looks like a willy and that creates nightmares had his half siblings tell him he never deserved to be loved, was it just a nightmare created by that monster, or...
Something his sibs really told him?
If Sagi never told them the truth, would Lyude's life have been better? idk. Surely not, Mintaka sucks after all, and maybe they would have been killed like the rest of the Azhani during Savyna's operation.
Speaking of which...
Savyna becomes the cold and aloof person who only knows how to kill... because we, the protags of BKO, either kill her dad in front of her, or let him die from the wounds we gave him as eldritch mist surrounds him... in front of her.
Shanath was an ass - but killing/or having him die in front of his child? Well, we know what happens next, she tries to join the sekrit d4rk militia, only to be inspired by Guillo out of anybody to "never forget that death is everywhere" - but hey, someone noticed that her animations when she deals a punch are oddly similar to Guillo whenever they use their, uh, claws/punch/piercing hands to kill enemies.
The prequel also has us beat Giacomo three times with apparent ease (when it's anything but!), prompting to despise Sagi, but most important, seek power at all costs... we know later on that he will become a test subject for his crazed dad and become obsessed with the "Magnus of Life", aka his dad's artificially created... being (with pointy ears!!) who can grant tremendous power.
1k years flashback wise... we basically follow the story of people who slowly grow more and more desperate until they feel like their only solution is to make a pact with evil entities/demons - known and feared as such by people! - to defeat another eldritch... thing.
Point being, let it be Sagi's story, the protags of the "1k years ago FB", Almarde's or even Savyna and Giacomo, we know how those stories end : they end up in tragedy.
But it also helps to recontextualise the cast's actions : Sagi's desire for revenge against Shanath (and possibly ending him himself!) ends up with Savyna being the cold and broken person we see in BKEWLO - who was ordered by Geldoblame to slaughter civilians - but Kalas doesn't threaten Giacomo after their final fight, leaving him the time to tell his two followers to basically help him save the world.
The desperate people from 1k years ago jumped to conclusions and wanted, again, quick revenge in their despair? They made a deal with demonic forces. Kalas... did the very same thing.
Short story long story : I like prequels when they both develop and give a new light to events we know, and I like tragedies lol
For the more midling points...
The OST doesn't feel as grandiose and loveable than the first game's - sure Chaotic Dance 2 is fun but it's a Giacomo theme! - so far nothing really made me pause and go "wow" save for Le Ali del Principio - obviously - the boss battle themes aren't mind blowing.
And the most negative aspect...
The battle system - it's different and less... static, with bits or real time picks and decisions but it feels much more simpler, there's no defensive phase, your combos are nothing as exciting as lining 9 cards from 1 to 9 or making pairs or what not, and worst of all, you can't even cook rice while fighting anymore :(
I liked the sheer stupidity of protecting yourself with a tea cup, a slice of tuna and a camera anymore, or create a "baked potato" by mixing fire and water magic but now we can't have those stupid combos anymore.
Maybe I'll grow to love it more as I play!

I don’t know if you already answered a similar question but do you have any thoughts on Alfira? I was just thinking about how much it sucks that she’s not a companion. Could’ve had Lakrissa as a camp follower for a double wammy (wammie?idk)
She feels like a Mcguffin that was specifically made for Durge. The game was originally ment to be played as The dark urge like all the previous Baldur's Gate games where you are always a bhaalspawn, but they made a Tav option instead and I think that was a good decision.
In an unintentional way she is interesting because she is the only character who breaks away from the time loop in a second playthrough. You play as Tav and see this cute tiefling with the most heartfelt song, you can be kind and she is thankful, you can be cruel but honest and she admits you sound like her old teacher but you are right.
You keep remeeting her, keep saving her indirectly and view her journey. Much like Barcus except she has no ultimate showdown climax. Her sole purpose is to get to Baldur's gate and start a music school for bards, that's exactly what she does all by herself as long as you're there to pave the road for her from monsters.
Then, next playthrough, it's Durge, and you're surprised when she comes back to camp. You expected the characters to remain consistent with their plots, but she takes initiative in a timeloop. It's like the ghost of her previous life in the Tav save is giving her courage.
Her music is phenomenal, a lot of videogames gloss over actually putting in effort when it comes to ingame bards or music that aren't for background or credits. I'm glad they didn't cut corners around Alfira because her song left me in actual awe and was the best ever way to get me attached to this one tiefling.
She is a symbol of hope in a way, to sing amdist the war, to love amdist the chaos, to hope for a better future amdist ths shadows. She is what proof there is the tieflings have humanity in their ancestory, she is what sets tieflings apart from devils.
I was looking forward to meeting her in each act, especially when she takes the children singing after Mol gets kidnapped. That moment really resonated with me. No one else treats these kids as kids, all other adults are busy fighting and surviving so these kids are expected to grow up fast and fend for themselves. Wipe their own tears and tend to their own heartaches.
Not Alfira, she still saw them as children and comforted them with her music. She still kept this facade of hope that we keep around children during times of peace even when she knew that they weren't buying it.
She feels completely out of place in a beautiful way, a reminder of what you're fighting for. Of why you're trying so hard for these tieflings, of just how cruel the dead three can be.
Because it's easy to get lost in the big picture, the battle of gods, the chaos of arhchamges the, befalling of a vampire lord. Alfira is the single drawn flower in the corner of a grim painting that makes you reconsider your position in the grand nothingness of it all, make you realise how small every person is.
In baking, even with cakes you add salt to them to make the sweetness pop out more. That feels true with Alfira and I'm happy she got her deserved ending with Lakrissa. They are as normal and average as normal can be, and in a world of gods and devils, that's as beautiful as love can get.
I would've loved her as a camp follower too, not a companion no, I don't want her on the battlefield. But maybe she can stay back at camp and give us once a day free inspiration dice to use. Or maybe act as the music ingame changer? Like in Hades the videogame, you can rescue Orpheus and he is the only playing music and singing in the "camp" or home. You can talk to him and ask him to play specific songs or strum differently, it's pretty nice and would've made the camp feel a little more personalised.

For the made-up title game: Up the Bend, Over the Corner
Obi-Wan and Quinlan are on a remote planet, looking for the mcguffin (which turns out to be a person) and, through a series of mishaps and one critical error in judgment, are lost and without transportation. They ask a local for directions and are given them, but it’s all relative to local people and landmarks...so..."go to Planki's ex girlfriend's father's place and turn left" kind of stuff.
It's a very long walk and nothing much happens aside from banter and maybe some animal related hijinks.
They might still be padawans. The mcguffin might be Mace Windu. I'll never tell.
