whenever i've imagined the upcoming bucktommy kiss (which is a lot) where buck initiates the kiss at the wedding once tommy saves chim, i imagine buck runs up to tommy and immediately kisses him in front of everyone. which is great and all, but now i think it'd be great if it starts with a simple hug first. like there's a slowmo scene of tommy getting off the plane, looking around for someone he knows, and then buck yells his name and sprints over, we hear tommy let out a soft "evan" before he's stumbling at the force of buck's body colliding with his as he hugs him so tightly. and as buck holds him, there's a few reaction shots. bobby has a slightly raised eyebrow, wondering when they got so close, athena looks a lil confused but happy nonetheless, hen and karen share a look, maybe we see buck's parents share one too (but less knowing/sweet and more worried), and eddie smiles a lil. let's out a sigh of relief because tommy is his friend too and he's glad he's safe. and THEN buck kisses tommy. and oh my god we get to see everyone's face switch immediately. the shock and the confusion and the pride. oh it'd just be so beautiful.

Listen, can we get recognition of the son and father relationship in s8 please.
"Huh." Hens eyes follow the back of Bucks retreating back as Bobby looks on as well. "I thought he would have a bigger reaction than that. He was so desperateto get rid off Gerrad." Hen pondered, looking at Bobby who had stepped in the station now fully back as Captain of the 118.
Everyone had celebrated at the news...
Except Buck, who was subdued at best when Bobby announced he was back at the helm of the station.
"Wonder what that's about." Bobby frowned, his stomach already churning at what was to come.
What came next was nothing.
At least nothing from Buck.
No chats, no hugs, no smiles, and no interest in cooking for the team or even helping Bobby cook.
Buck was fine when it came to communicating during calls. Ever the professional.
Too professional for Bobby's liking.
And it didn't go unnoticed by the team.
He had tried to approach Buck about before the end of the shift during his fourth day back but Buck had rebuffed his efforts to talk.
They hadn't talked since he came back, Buck wasn't even talking during team dinners.
Sure he would talk to Eddie, Hen, Ravi, and Chim- all smiles and laughter with the team.
But it was just silence with Bobby.
Bobby had it by day 7 of his return and vowed to actually confront Buck at home.
(Bobby refused to be upset about not realizing that Buck had moved in with Tommy at some point. How had Buck not told him that? That was a really big life changing decision and milestone)
(Of course Bobby had missed the irony of him being upset at Buck)
He drove the extra 40 minutes from DTLA to Silver Lake, he had thankfully been able to find Tommy's address through some old work emails.
"Bobby? What are you doing here?" Tommy asked once he opened the door.
"Is Buck here?"
Tommy's jaw ticked at that, "He's out for a run, should he back soon." He opened the door wide and stepped aside. "Come in."
Bobby nodded in thanks and came into the house. He had to admit to himself, he and Tommy weren't close. It always felt as though they both were keen on putting a wall between them, that line between being professional and overly friendly. Bobby knew why his own reason for doing so, it just took for Buck and Tommy to be dating for him to put together Tommy's reason for the wall as well.
He didn't know what to expect when stepping into Tommy's house. But it felt warm and lived in, it was neat but there were a few knickknacks here and there, pictures of random sites and people with Tommy (including a lovely framed photo of Tommy and Buck at the awards ceremony), and a lot of plants.
He also noticed a few familiar items that he was sure belonged to Buck.
"Can I get you something to drink? Juice? Tea? Water?" Tommy offered, leading them towards the kitchen.
"Waters fine, thanks." Bobby took a quick look around the kitchen, taking a seat at the kitchen nook table.
"So...any particular reason for the drop in visit?" Tommy asked, sounding blase as got three glasses of water, setting aside one on the kitchen island.
Bobby nodded and gave out a meek thank you as Tommy sat from across him.
"I-uh, I'm not sure." Bobby admitted, he looked up at Tommy quizzically. "Has Buck told you anything? I mean, has he been different recently?"
Tommy arched a brow at that. "Bobby, if you're asking if I know why Buck has been giving you the silent treatment at work, you can just ask outright."
Bobby's eyes widened and he knew his mouth was hanging open as well. "So you know the reason then?" He asked the other man cautiously.
Tommy nodded, twisting the glass between his hands.
"Can you tell me why? I've been trying to figure it out but he won't talk to me." Bobby pleaded, "He's acting weird around me. He doesnt want to talk, doesnt want to help me out with cooking duties. He doeant even call me Cap anymore."
Tommy nodded sagely. "I know."
"Can you tell me why?"
He watched as Tommy looked crestfallen at that and sighed before explaining to Bobby. "No, because it's not my place and Evan knows he can trust me. And as much as I respect you Bobby, I respect my boyfriend more."
Bobby pressed his lips together, mildly annoyed and impressed that Buck had found a partner that had his back like this.
Bobby rubbed his face tiredly, shoulders slumping in defeat as he mumbled. "Yeah."
"Safe to assume he's doing his job, right? Responding to calls and orders." Tommy leaned back in his seat, arms crossed. "He's talking and treating you the way he typically would with another captain. You put on the uniform, respond to calls, take orders, and go home."
That had Bobby sit up straight. He felt a weird sense of deja vu at the words- he was unsure if he had said the words before or if someone else had. It felt familiar and bitter all at once.
Tommy looked at him with an imploring expression.
"Because this is a job and not a family." Bobby finished hollowly....
He had said the same thing to Tommy and the rest of the 118 when he had started as Captain.
He said the same thing a few times to Buck too after Buck had started at the station, but it never stuck.
Buck had wormed his way into Bobby's life and heart. Despite trying for all the years to make sure he had never treated Buck differently, he knew he had a soft spot for him.
Athena knew.
Hen knew.
May even knew.
A part of him knew that Buck was aware of it too.
Which was why Bobby was at his ropes end in trying to figure out how his relationship with Buck was now at the step before first step.
It was though they had pressed the reset button on their relationship it this time, it was Buck making sure that they weren't a family.
"Exactly." Tommy pointed at him knowingly, a sad smile that had Bobby feeling more guilt ridden for their relationship.
"Tommy, I-Im so-"
"Y'know the one thing I admire about Evan? Is that he's selfless and resilient as hell, but he's not gonna force someone to love him and he's not gonna settle either. It's either all or nothing, which I definitely appreciate because I want it all with him." Tommy's smile was fond, "I know Evan cares for a lot for the people he considers to be his family, I just wish that they thought the same for him."
Bobby frowned at that, thinking hack to the times where he and the others had been there for Buck when he was hurt.
He was about to retort back when he heard Buck's voice and foot steps approaching them, "Hey baby, you wouldn't mind if we skip the movies toni-"
Buck froze on the spot, his demeanor switching quickly to something darker and moodier as he asked Tommy "What's the captain doing here?"
Both men stood up but only Tommy went to Buck's side.
"He wanted to talk to you." Tommy explained gently, he rubbed Buck's back in comfort. "I know you're pissed but it might help to talk to him. Even just to get closure." Tommy advised.
Bobby frowned at that, still unsure to what led to Buck essentially giving him the silent treatment.
He watched as Tommy whispered something into Buck's ear and saw how Buck's eyes widened and hardened again. His looked straight at Bobby with a disappointed frown.
"Just talk to him." Tommy pressed, "You might get some answers you've been wanting to get." He kissed Buck on the temple ans squeezed his hand, "I'll be in the living room if you need me, okay?"
Buck nodded, letting their hands linger and trace over their arms as they pulled away. "Okay, yeah."
Buck licked his lips, rubbing his face tiredly with the bottom of his shirt. "You really don't get why I'm so angry at you?" He asked Bobby, his voice heavy with confusion, hurt, and frustration.
"No," Bobby stressed, waving his arms out in frustration. "Honestly Buck? I don't get where any of this is coming from. I figured you of all people would be relieved that I would be coming back."
Buck nodded, not in agreement but just because as he slumped down in the seat that Tommy had vacated.
"Yeah," Buck sighed, "but that doesn't undo what you did, Captain."
It was the Captain that did it.
It was the final straw.
Bobby slammed his hands against the table. "Damn it, Buck. What the hell did I do in the first place? What exactly?!
Buck took a deep breath in, his blue eyes dark and wide but his voice was rough- on the verge of tears as he told Bobby "You were planning on leaving and you didn't even bother to tell me."
For all the bubbling anger that Bobby had felt, it only took Buck's shaky voice to break his demeanor.
"Oh."

won't make my mama proud
read on ao3
Buck's just gonna say it. He's not gonna be cagey about it. He's not gonna make it weird. Everyone important doesn't need an announcement, they'll - they'll see him, and they'll understand, and Buck will get to enjoy himself.
His parents are the wildcard.
"E- Buck," his mom starts, brow furrowed as she looks at the seating chart. She's getting better at catching herself, and it's small fries but it's not nothing. "Why did George get moved to table seven?"
He'd been a little giddy, sitting at Maddie's kitchen table with the seating chart out, the tips of his ears bright red and the smile refusing to leave his face, basking in the little hip-shake arm-wave dance Maddie'd done when he asked if she could fit a plus one in.
Buck honestly couldn't remember who they'd moved to make it work, but it'd made the most sense - Tommy knew Bobby and Athena, he knew Karen and Eddie and Marisol, he wouldn't have to sit with a table of strangers who didn't even know a "George" anyway.
His mom's eyes flit to the extended family table, where Tommy has been tucked in between Eddie and Denny. He'd made the place card himself, intent to match the script from the printers, tongue sticking out as he swooped the 'Y' out in gold Sharpie on a piece of leftover cardstock cut to match.
"Uh - I'm bringing a date, after all," Buck says, and he watches his mom slide through names, a mental list of people she vaguely knows of. The Marisol thing had been a point of contention - extended family meant family to Margaret and Phillip Buckley, and they'd already made an exception to let Chim include Eddie and his son at that particular table. They'd acted like the relationship to the bride and the groom was going to be hovering over the top of each table. So. She knows the name Marisol. She knows Athena and Bobby. Knows Karen.
The list of potential dates is growing smaller by the minute and clearly it's not computing.
He's just gonna rip the bandaid off. "His name is Tommy. My date."
Once upon a time, he'd have taken an opportunity like this to make sure he was the center of fucking attention for as long as he possibly could be. Maybe drive home the point that his parents didn't know him as well as they claimed they did. Definitely press their buttons, see if he could invite a reaction out of them.
Now he waves off his mother's confused silence. "I already ran it by Maddie and Chim, they know him." Sort of. It's too complicated to explain to his parents, right now. Maybe if the dancing goes well, at the reception. Maybe once he's snuck about fifty more kisses in.
"Buck, you can't bring a friend as a plus one to your sister's wedding."
He doesn't see why not, really, but that's - very much not the point. Oh. Oh yeah, that's a little painful. He gets why Tommy'd slammed the brakes, now, when he'd stuck his foot in it.
"Good thing he's my date, then, mom."
Even after all this time, he always feels like he's one bad interaction away from laying into his parents, but he tempers it. This isn't really about him, or them. This is about Maddie's wedding, which is two days away and doesn't need the distraction of the brides family having it out. Again.
"What do you mean?" she asks, and - her defensive voice always sounds like she's expecting a direct attack, teeth at her jugular and she's too frail to stop it. He's always hated the way she does that, because it always makes her sound like the victim of a heinous crime when half the time she's just trying to deny something she's been accused of.
Buck takes a deep breath through his nose. "Tommy. He's my date to the wedding. Once we've all eaten and toasted at the reception he'll be the one I'm getting drinks for, he'll be the one I'm introducing to Maddie's work friends, he'll be the one I'm dancing with." He'll be the one I'm going home with, Buck doesn't say, even if he really fucking wants to. He'd gotten a dick pic for the first time last night that had rocked his entire fucking world and he's very ready to explore the realities of finally understanding he's attracted to the male form in a sexual way.
She goes through what seems like all the stages of grief at once. Not unexpected, but still kinda shitty to witness. But she's - they're both better. His parents are trying. He'll give them that. She shores up a PTA mom smile.
"Oh. I didn't know you... Well I just didn't know."
"It's new," he says, because now doesn't feel like the time to tell her he's been analyzing old friendships for weeks now, that his penchant for trying to create deep bonds with men he admires has taken on a new meaning to him. He doesn't want to get into the conversation he'd had with Tommy two nights ago, Tommy laughing but understanding as Buck regaled him with the tale of how he'd followed the varsity kicker around like a lost puppy for most of his junior year and he'd only just figured out why. "Tommy used to work at the 118, though, so he's not exactly a stranger."
He doesn't really feel like giving her more than that. It's new to him, too, it's new and fragile and it's settling warm in his gut, this feeling like he finally knows the way to make a proper chili is to add some unsweetened cocoa powder. The recipe works without it but it was never quite right, until the secret ingredient got thrown in.
"You'll have to introduce us," his mom says, and Buck thinks about it - about the way Tommy will internalize the confused looks his parents try to hide, and the way Buck will want to curl tighter around him because of it, the way he'll want to shrink under the force of his parents never quite getting him and how he knows, he knows Tommy won't let him shrink.
"Yeah," he says, and his mind goes back to thinking of Tommy in a suit.
Tommy with a button undone that turns into three by the third song, Tommy fiddling with cufflinks, Tommy with suspenders, Tommy's ass in a pair of crisp tapered trousers. Buck wonders if he's an ankle sock with dress shoes guy.
His mom turns back to her trove of little gift bags, plastic crinkling as she ties another finished one off. He's - it feels a bit like he's waiting for a shoe to drop, sitting there next to her as her hands continue to pull jute twine from its roll in even six inch lengths, cutting them, twisting bags and tying them off.
Their hands meet the next time he slides a pile of filled bags over to her -- a bubble jar, three Jordan almonds, four Kisses, a quarter inch of crinkle paper on the bottom. Buck goes to move his hand back and her soft, wrinkled hand reaches out to pat his knuckles before she returns to her twine.
-----
He picks up Tommy's call when he's halfway home. "Hey," he says, and he knows Tommy can hear the smile in his voice. He can't bring himself to care.
"Hey. Did you already eat at your sisters?"
"No, my parents took Jee out to dinner so Maddie and Chim could have the night before Maddie imposes her weird twenty-four hour no contact rule."
"You Buckley's," Tommy says, and there's something fond in his voice that makes Buck's heart squeeze, just a bit. "I know I'll see you tomorrow night, but I thought, if you're not busy --."
"I'm not busy," Buck interrupts, and Tommy's little chuff of a laugh echoes back at him.
"Maybe I'm about to ask you to detail my truck for me."
Buck's still trying to find the right way to word his thoughts about armor-all and gear shafts when Tommy cuts across them.
"Low hanging fruit, Evan," he warns, even though he can't have possibly known what Buck was thinking.
"I was thinking about the twig, not the berries," Buck shoots back, and Tommy groans.
"You have sufficient evidence not to call it a twig."
"Which is why I was trying to compare it to the gear shift, before you derailed that train of thought."
"Do you wanna come over for dinner or not, Evan Buckley?"
Buck taps his thumbs on the steering wheel, does a little jig in his seat, tries not to smile so wide that he scares the driver next to him as he coasts to a stop at a red light.
"Are the berries on the menu?"
"The stick shift too, if you're lucky."
"This metaphor is getting a little murky."
"If you wanted to stop for shitty burgers I wouldn't mind," Tommy admits, voice softening, and Buck is already trying to plot out the best route to In-N-Out from here to Tommy's. "If you think of a way to make an Animal Style innuendo you are not getting into my pants tonight."
"I'll stick with the hot meat puns, then."
Tommy laughs, bright and loud, goofy like he can't quite control it, and Buck settles into his seat, flipping his blinker to get into the turn lane so he can double back a few blocks.
"You far enough away I can hop in the shower without telling you where I keep my hide-a-key?"
"Yeah, but maybe you should tell me anyway."
Tommy hums, and something settles under Buck's skin when Tommy gives him a frankly ridiculous set of instructions that no first responder is ever gonna follow in an emergency when they could just kick the door in, dispatch instructions be damned.
It's far too early in this, but Buck's pretty sure he's deep enough in this that it wouldn't weird him out if Tommy told him to keep the spare. He doesn't, and Buck doesn't mind, but it's there, in the back of his mind, that feeling like they're both in this for the long haul.
"Hey, I told my mom you're coming as my plus one," Buck says into the comfortable silence that drifts over the line. Tommy knows the bare minimum about his family, really, but he knows that's significant all the same.
"How did that...go?" And Buck keeps forgetting that Tommy wasn't always confidently out, that he's experienced the coming out conversation with a lot worse results than Buck's experienced, so far.
"She was mostly weirded out that you made George move to table seven," Buck jokes, because he's not sure he's fully unpacked how he feels about it yet, and Tommy - Tommy gets that.
"If I'm stepping on toes, I don't mind sitting with all the weird singles and estranged aunts, Evan," Tommy assures, for the twentieth time.
"You're sitting with the people I want you to be sitting with," Buck reminds him, and hopes he understands the part of that that Buck doesn't know how to say out loud yet.
"Noted," he says, that same tone as when he met Buck for coffee, a few weeks ago now, the weight of understanding the things between the lines.
"Go shower," Buck tells him, and tries not to let his imagination run too wild at the thought. "I'll see you in a bit."
Tommy doesn't immediately respond, and Buck can imagine him on the other side of the call, debating whether or not to make the dumb joke about detailing his gear stick himself. He clearly has better impulse control than Buck. "See you soon," he says after a beat, and hangs up before Buck can draw him back in.

So we all know that LFJ plays a gay guy really well
And let me give you even more examples!
Tommy having a crush on Buck but it not being super obvious until you rewatched it with a queer lense was super important.
But once Tommy lets his feelings be known to Buck, his demeanor shifts.
He smiles openly around Buck a lot more. He lets himself look smitten and enchanted whenever it's just him and Buck or when they're around people who know about them. Examples: their first date, Chim's bachelor party and wedding
He's way more relaxed in his demeanor.
He's very upfront about his feelings for Buck to Buck. "Evan, I think you're adorable, but I don't think you're ready." "You already know that I'm interested." "God, I hope so."
Because there is a big difference in the way queer people act before and after coming out, even if it's just to your crush. You can see that in the Harbor tour scene, the basketball scene, and the loft pre-kiss scene.
Tommy was smiling a whole lot more after their first kiss, and after their hospital kiss too. I swear that smile in the hospital room screamed "I got laid in a hospital supply closet by my very eager golden retriever boyfriend who turned into the smoothest motherfucker I've ever met."
Side note: I don't see people mention Tommy's nuances in that loft scene quite as much, but you need to go rewatch Tommy's reaction after Buck says he called and asked for the tour just to get to know Tommy but then Tommy left with Eddie. Tommy laughs for a second, realizes what's going on, and the look he gives Buck afterwards like "God, I want you so much". I think he was starting to piece it together then.
Aaargh, let's not forget how happy he looked after Buck confirmed that he'd been trying to get Tommy's attention. He's just smiling at Buck like he's pregaming being kiss-drunk. The way Tommy just looks into Buck's eyes while Buck is rambling, and his smile radiating "He likes me! I'm going to kiss him about it, just need to find a good segue."
And, AND let's not forget how Tommy listens to Buck. I mean actively listens to him. He gives Buck all his attention when he's with him. Even when Buck was rambling before the kiss, Tommy was still paying enough attention to relate the kiss right back to what Buck said, meanwhile Buck was up in the clouds relearning the days of the week. And then bringing the beer back up!
Tommy, if you were a lesbian, I'd marry you in a heartbeat and have your kids, and I ain't even into marriage or parenting.

In 2x09 Hen Begins, we get to see past Tommy being a jerk. But as I said in a previous post (that I can't find), my headcanon is that you can see how he's always looking at Gerrard for some kind of validation or a sort of sign to follow. He's always looking at the Asshole in Chief to make sure his behavior fits the one his leader expect him to have.
Tumblr media
Here they welcome Hen like a bunch of pricks. Tommy is looking at Gerrard to know what reaction would be appropriate for him to have. Chim is further on the right, disagreeing with the way Gerrard is handling Hen's arrival. (also Lou, stop torturing your fingers lmao)
Tumblr media
Here Chim says he thought Hen was from the East Coast. Then Tommy makes a remark about New York bitchiness because Hen is rightfully sassy. Chim calls Tommy out, then Tommy is seeking approval from Gerrard. He could just own his remark but he doesn't. He needs validation. He knows Gerrard would never tell him he's going too far, definitely not for saying this. But he's looking for a sign that would tell him he's acting the right way. Gerrard says nothing.
Tumblr media
And when Hen finally says her piece like the queen she is, Tommy, once again, turns to his leader. It could also be to Chim, their eyes definitely meet anyway. But by now, we know that Tommy is following whatever cues he gets from Gerrard.
We talked about how closeted gay men can be really awful in order to pass: misogyny, racism, homophobia, and more. Anything to "look the part" among the boys to make sure no one finds out about them. And honestly, I don't even know if those acting choices were conscious but they really fit Tommy's storyline so perfectly. We also know some people are more followers than leaders anyway, closeted queer or not. But that would be a very happy coincidence.
Tommy was a jerk, yes, absolutely, but there were signs that told a bigger story.

Excerpt from my bucktommy roommates au WIP:
When Chimney connected him with Tommy, Buck never thought getting a roommate would also lead to finding a fast friend. He’s not only glad to be out of the frat house-seque living situation, but living with Tommy is great- Tommy is amazing. He’s so deadpan and dry with his humor, the kind that laps at you like the edge of a wave caressing the shore, you almost miss it. He keeps the place tidy and organized, which Buck is a big fan of. And Buck quickly discovered Tommy’s a movie nerd- loves romcoms in particular. He’s missed many a movie references between Tommy and Chim. Buck’s just never been a huge movie guy, but he finds he can’t say no to Tommy, who’s determined to introduce him to a new movie every week.
Last week, it was Pride and Prejudice, the 2005 movie (and yes it’s different from the BBC mini series, Tommy had pointed out.) Buck enjoyed it more than he thought he would, mostly because Tommy recited his favorite lines under his breath and glanced at Buck ever so often to gauge his reactions. It didn’t hurt that Mr. Darcy reminded Buck of Tommy, all tall, cool and stoic and could come off as closed-off before you got to know him, handsome, too. Buck ended up having a very weird dream that night which involved him and Tommy at a ball.
Their shifts don’t always align so they can’t have movie night on the same night every week, but they do make it a point to make time for it. Buck has snacks and beer ready, since he got off a bit earlier and now he’s just waiting for Tommy to get out of the shower. When he finally comes out, he’s wearing a nice button down and jeans. He ironed them, Buck realizes. His button down is open enough to reveal the hollow of his throat and something in Buck itches. He doesn’t know what that’s about. The point is, this is a date outfit, which means Tommy’s going out- but it’s movie night…
“H- heyy, Tommy,” he says awkwardly. “Uh, I have snacks and a movie, but Iooks like you’re going out?”
Buck sees the moment Tommy’s face falls. “Evan,” he groans softly. “I’m so sorry. I thought I texted you earlier, but I guess I never hit send. This guy asked me out and you know I haven’t been out with anyone, since you’ve known me. I just got excited, is all,” he explains. Buck knows Tommy doesn’t owe him an explanation. He’s free to go out, hell, he should. He’s a great guy and anyone would be lucky to be with him.
“Hey, no worries!” He says a little too cheery. “It’s okay, really. You deserve to go out. I hope you have a great time,” he tries to sound as sincere as possible, because Tommy does deserve to be happy. Sure, Buck’s a little disappointed and he doesn’t know why the thought of Tommy spending time with someone else stings a little, but there’s always next week. Tommy doesn’t look completely convinced but he nods and gives Buck a relieved smile. “Thanks, well don’t have too much fun without me,” he says drily.
“Yeah, well watching movies by myself’s not as fun,” he huffs. “I might go out, too. I mean, hot chicks love firefighters, right?” God, why did he say that? What is wrong with him? Tommy looks at him curiously. “O-okay?” He says slowly, a little confused. “Guess I’ll see you tomorrow, then. Have a good night, Evan.”
“You too,” Buck calls out softly, as Tommy walks out of the door and locks it behind him.

Coming Out is Easy - 7x06 coda
Buck felt the kiss down to his toes. He just couldn’t help himself because seeing Tommy, especially a Tommy fully decked out in gear and covered in soot, it suddenly made it click for Buck. The thing that people had about firefighters. Although maybe it was just Tommy because Buck saw firefighters covered in all kinds of things all the time and it had never brought out this reaction before. It had taken Tommy to get that out in Buck, and so as Tommy strode towards him, talking about the fire in a tired and apologetic tone, Buck walked towards him and kissed him.
Tommy kissed him right back and it was an assault on his senses. There was the smokey smell that lingered on Tommy and neat slick slide of their tongues meeting and the feel of the short hair at the nape of his neck. Buck could taste him too, a hint of coffee, likely the only thing keeping him standing after so long a shift.
Buck held onto him even after the kiss ended, his hand still at Tommy’s neck and his other around his waist. They breathed the same air and Buck just smiled and pressed closer, wanted nothing more than to stay there together until they were forced apart.
“I can’t believe they got married at a hospital,” Tommy said eventually.
“They didn’t want to wait,” Buck said with a smile.
Maddie’s call had had everyone rushing a bit, but they had all been happy to be there for her and Chim even if it wasn’t the wedding they had planned and agonized over for the last few weeks.
“Come on, I know you’re tired so you don’t have to stay long.”
Buck turned and he started heading away, but Tommy grabbed his wrist.
“Bathroom first.”
“Why? You don’t need to clean up, Chim and Maddie won’t mind.”
Tommy chuckled. “Not for me, Evan. You look like you’ve been kissing a chimney sweep.”
“I doubt you fit in a chimney,” Buck said, a little playfully and incapable of not grinning.
Tommy chuckled again. “Just, if you don’t want them to have questions, maybe wash your face first.”
“And what if I want them to have questions?”
It wasn’t like the invitation to the wedding hadn’t been, in a small way, Buck’s way of just telling everyone without needing to have individual conversations. His sooty beard would more than clear things up and Buck wouldn’t even have to say a word.
“I’m not going to stop you,” Tommy said.
“Then let’s go.”
No one said anything to him or Tommy directly, but there certainly were reactions. His favorite was his parents being both shocked and confused followed closely by Athena’s perfectly arched eyebrow and Hen’s knowing look. They stayed long enough to eat cake and no one said anything when Buck left with Tommy. He was sure, considering they were in a hospital, that everyone would start leaving soon anyway. He had no idea how long the hospital staff would allow it to go on.
“You really do nothing by halves, do you, Evan?”
“You’re not complaining, are you?”
“No. Not at all.”
Buck reached for his hand, lacing their fingers together and when he looked to Tommy, Tommy was already looking back, his scrunchy smile in place.

911 ep 701 first watch reactions
(I don't think I have the energy to write proper Buddie meta, so here's me randomly squealing instead...)
LMAO In case you were wondering whether s7 of 911 will be subtle about their gratitude/debt to ABC for saving the show, the answer is a resounding no.
Also, I have lost a lot of respect for Frank as a shrink, but gained a lot of love for him as a sass king. "Did she win!?" The murderous look Athena gave him was priceless. I love her, too. She doesn't even need words to rule.
Man, nooooo. Don't give me a mutual "I love you" between Bobby and Athena like that.
"Go ahead and cut the green wire." Everyone and their sister: "Green? You said Red."
9-1-1 is the superior comedy they slipped into our drink, while we were here for our weekly action, suspense, drama and familial love.
Buck broke off with Natalia, and the show really did it like that. XD Every single person who rolled their eyes at this pairing during s6, we were all justified, but wow. The show really is the only forum to respect the pair even less than fandom does. And of course we find out about it in the middle of a scene built around Eddie being half naked, Buck watching him, with the camera specifically turning so we can discover Buck was initially covered by Eddie's body, and the angle change reveals him, when the whole thing wraps up with Eddie welcoming Buck back to the land of the living... Yeah, wonder what made Buck feel alive again. Don't know. 'Tis a mystery. We were given zero clues...
"I want the honeymoon life." *cries* Chimney is just such a good, good man. And okay, expecting your whole life to be a honeymoon's a bit unrealistic, but Madney are living together and they have a child. They know this. Chim knows this, but he still wants to go for it. Aim for the moon, you'll at least land among the stars, right?
Bobby baffled by Athena's reaction to Norman and Lola is hilarious.
I like how Chim has a great idea, but it's still obvious that it's gonna go wrong, because he can't help going overboard with it...
OMG, that scene with Eddie recounting to Buck what Christopher's date was like... If I were to write my Buddie meta, I would serve a three course meal just from that. I mean, the fact that watching Chris hanging out with a girl he likes, makes Eddie compare it to "hanging out with his guy friends" (when there's no lack of interest in this girl... in fact, it turns out that if anything, Christopher's problem is the opposite of a lack of interest) is so telling. There's a reason why that's where Eddie's mind went.
But then also... Eddie's trust in Buck got to me, the way he went to his best friend (not his own gf) for help with Chris. But that was still played with half a smile. But then Buck sort of disses himself jokingly, and Eddie won't have it. "You didn't end up like you." He sees how Buck worked on being a better person, even when Eddie wasn't there for the worst of it, and he appreciates it, and won't let Buck forget it. Meeeep. I love them.
Oh Chim. I was giving you so much credit, and then you went and bought that outdoors jacuzzi. lol Still love him. That's what Maddie's reminding herself of right now, too. ;p
Poor Hen, she was great in this ep, but none of it was really about her, she was comic relief, both with Chim and with the red wire. Then again, she was amazing in this, like she always is with everything.
Eddie and Buck were both so good with Chris this ep, MY HEART. Buck with getting him to talk about what's really bothering him, and Eddie with realizing exactly what his son needs, and how to give it to him. They completed each other. Neither one would be helping Chris without the other one. Tell me again how they're not soulmates?
In conclusion, I love Bobby saying, "Let's go prove one of us wrong," when they're both right. Something WAS going on with Norman and Lola, AND Athena was using them to avoid him.
Argh. That scene of the ship and its passengers being hijacked was rough to watch. </3 I'll still be here to watch the conclusion of this. That's the power of 9-1-1 for you.
It def felt like a great kick to the new season. We had lots of comedy and fun, some great tension, some emotional moments (especially with Christopher), but all in all, it's still clear that the whole thing's a build up to next week. Are you excited?

Okay I'm going to partially tell on myself. I am new, as in the Buck/T kiss showed up all over my dash, as did all of Oliver's interviews and I just thought he was the yummiest most delightful human being I had ever seen and heard (my god is accent is heaven) new. And I thought that first kiss was really well done. It was a great scene. Now, that being said, I didn'twant to jump into a show that was seven seasons into the story with zero context, except the stuff I had been seeing on my dash for years. So I started from the beginning, with the full intent and excitement of getting to T in season 7. Imagine my surprise when he popped up occasionally in earlier seasons. His only good part was when we were supposed to believe that Chim could lift him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, haha. That was great.
Anyway by the time I made it to season 7, it was too late. I had just watched 5 seasons of Buck and Eddie. There was zero room for T to compete on any level. Which is why the behavior of some is so confusing to me. Let me say first that I do not think the show always intended to put Buck and Eddie together, I don't think that's been the intention since the beginning. There is however a very good case to make that Eddie's introduction was Buck's actual Bi bell ringing moment though (*what a man plays in the background*). I do however agree that the writing has trended, increasingly so, in that direction. The writers do not hold all the blame however, Oliver and Ryan have kind of acted them into a corner. There are several scenes, multiple scenes, where the acting choices the two of them made were interesting, to say the least (looking at you 'go for the title' kitchen scene I love. Buck was flirting on every possible level in that scene).
Sorry, I got off track, back to my point. The people like me, who came in after the kiss popped up everywhere, being all in on T is somewhat fine. The problem would be the ones who are deliberately refusing to go back and watch the entire series before pontificating on B/T being destiny and all that other nonsense. There is an argument to be made that they're avoiding it because they know most of the history dismantles their current ship fixation. So as a result those people can be easily dismissed because they have zero context to any of their opinions. The ones who were with you all for 5 seasons though, yes I've seen their posts, who lost their shit over 2 pairs of lips touching, is what I cannot wrap my brain around. I completely understand the excitement behind that first kiss. It was a much anticipated moment for BUCK. He was the important person in that scene.
But confusing, or deliberately misinterpreting, Buck's revelation and sigh of relief at finally figuring out something pretty significant about himself, as being about him finding T is a gymnastics act I did not expect to see from so many long haulers. I mean, it should be obvious but T wasn't important in that scene. His gender was what was important. Which is why they have barely bothered to show him since that episode. And the interactions they have shown, minus the hospital kiss, that they made sure to show Eddie's reaction to btw, have all been red flag scenes. Little things that show this relationship isn't really that different from his previous relationships. Buck may have figured out the gender part but he's still making the same relationship mistakes. It's why the few scenes they've had together, and it's the bare minimum of effort, have been about Buck trying to initiate some level of communication and emotional connection and him being dismissed or having it turned into a daddy kink joke. I also think Oliver's enthusiasm dipped drastically by the end and it showed.
Which brings me to Eddie. The show, and more so, Oliver and Ryan have already done the hard part. The emotional connection, which is way more difficult to pull off than a physical connection, is already there. Their chemistry is already established. They're partners in every way but physically. As a result it is not a huge character leap to eventually bring a physical relationship into it as well. That will not be a shocking character development for either character. It goes back to the way the two have been written and they way Oliver and Ryan have interrupted those scenes. I won't touch their interviews because I think it's pretty clear, at this point, they seem to agree it's the way to go. There's more story to explore with them learning how to navigate an actual relationship than there is in bringing in other, lesser characters, to firstly try to compete with that connection, and then try to establish endgame status. I don't know. It's not about any two pairs of lips touching it's about the right two pairs of lips touching. Because when it's the right couple the characters get that sigh and exhale of finally! But the audience gets their sigh and exhale of finally as well. That is the point.
Sorry this got looooong 🤣
Ooooh Nonny, you speak right to my heart.
First of all, thank you for going back all the way to season 1 to actually sit down and watch the show. We aren't just making up Buddie. It has been there since the beginning. I'm so glad you got to witness their beautiful history together and that you realised just how right they are for each other.
I can't speak for the people who suddenly turned 180° and dropped Buddie for BT. I have been shipping Buddie from season 2, so I don't understand their reasoning or motivation either. It like you said so beautifully:
"It's not about any two pairs of lips touching. It's about the right two pairs of lips touching."
And that is what it comes down to. We can be content with a lackluster, meaningless relationship for queer rep. Or we can be exhilerated with an amazingly complex and years in the making relationship, which will be so much better for queer rep. It will be revolutionary in so many ways to make a slow burn queer ship canon.
(Before anyone comes at me for talking about queer rep. I have slowly been figuring myself out over the last couple of years and, looking back at my life and relationships, I've come to realise that I definitely belong somewhere on the ace spectrum. Not sure where exactly, I'm still searching for the right label, but it feels right to me. This is actually the first time I said this on a public forum for people to read. Kinda scary to be honest.)
I know what I would choose for myself if I was faced with these two options. Why wouldn't we automatically choose this for Buck and Eddie as well? It's mind-boggling really.
So yeah: queer Eddie and Buddie canon in season 8! All the way!
Don't apologise for your great post. I loved reading it. Feel welcome to drop in whenever you want. :)

Uncle Tommy Begins
day 3 of @bucktommypositivityweek 1790 words rating: teen and up tags: fluff, domestic, mention of child abuse, mention of accident
Tommy wasn’t really great with kids. Growing up with an alcoholic dad who yelled and hit him left him a bit scared that he might do the same without meaning to. He had told Evan about this one day, a week after Evan had opened up about Daniel, after days of debating whether to share his own story or not. Because realistically, Evan loved kids. It was just a matter of when he would become a father, whereas for Tommy, it was more of an if. He loved Evan so much that he was afraid this might be a dealbreaker. But Evan hugged him instead, whispered reassurances in his ear, comforted him after his sobbing.
When Evan learned about Tommy babysitting Chris, he was eager to introduce Tommy to Jee-Yun. But upon hearing Tommy’s story, Evan decided to hold off—at least until their relationship had progressed a bit more, or when the situation was more stable, when Bobby’s barbecue party was back on the calendar.
So when Chimney called and said Anne was in the hospital, and asked him if he could drive Jee-Yun to his house, Evan’s first reaction was to glance at Tommy, concern thick in his eyes. He wasn’t just worried about Anne; he was worried about Tommy too. They’d planned this movie date for days, it was not easy finding a space between their hectic schedule. And now it was about to get canceled just as it started. Evan knew Tommy would be cool with it, but it still didn’t feel fair.
“So that was Chimney.” He started, carefully. “He–uh... Anne fell…”
Tommy quickly turned to him. “Oh no, is she okay?”
“Chim’s on the way to the hospital, and...” Evan paused, hesitated, “he asked if he could drive Jee-Yun home and I said yes. I’m really sorry.”
Tommy’s eyes widened, and for a moment, he just stared at Evan as if the words hadn’t fully sunk in. His brow furrowing as he processed it. Evan watched him as he offered a small, apologetic smile.
“Evan, we don’t have any toys here. What should we do?” Tommy began, his voice a little panicked. He paused, thinking out loud. “I have some kids movie here,” he mumbled, then wandered towards the tv cabinet and opened the drawer.
Evan opened his mouth, but no words came out. He wanted to clarify that he meant his own home, not here at Tommy's, but Tommy's reaction warmed his heart. Tommy wasn’t just okay with his niece coming over even though he wasn't comfortable with kids as Evan does; he also considered this place their home. Evan would love to call this his home too, one day.
“S-so... you’re really okay with this?” Evan asked, needing to be sure.
“Of course, Ev,” Tommy replied, still rummaging through the stacks of DVDs. “Oh, and tell Howie to take West Street, it’s less crowded.”
Evan's smile widened. “I’ll let him know.” He quickly texted his brother-in-law to bring Jee to Tommy’s place instead.
Chimney came in a rush, greeted them briefly, handed sleepy Jee to Evan’s arm with hurried apologies and brief thank you as he left.
That left little Jee confused. He glanced at his father’s car, then turned to Evan and finally to the man beside him. Noticing her unease, Evan gently tapped her arm. “Jee, this is Tommy. Remember when I told you about him?”
Jee-Yun nodded slowly. “Uncle Buck’s boyfriend?”
Evan smiled. “Correct! God, you’re so smart.” Evan gave her a kiss on the cheek.
She giggled a little before looking back at Tommy, and Evan was worried again.
But Tommy smiled at her, ever so gently, then offered his hand for Jee to shake. “Hi, Jee. I’m Tommy. It’s really nice to finally meet you. Uncle Buck’s told me so much about you.”
Jee-Yun slipped her tiny hand into Tommy’s, giggling. She could only hold half of Tommy’s big palm. “Hi, Tommy. Do you really drive helicopters?”
Tommy chuckled. “Yep, I drive helicopter at work.”
“Wow, that’s so cool!” She exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air. “Uncle Buck also said you have a strawberry farm. Is that true?”
Tommy laughed again, Evan felt his heart melt at how cute these two were. “Not exactly a farm, but I do grow some strawberries here. They’re not ripe yet, but, do you want to see them?”
“Yes!”
“Alright, but first, let’s clean up this drool before we check out the strawberries.” Evan said playfully, gently wiping at dried drool on her cheek.
“I’m not drooling, Uncle Buck,” she pouted, crossing her arms.
“Sure, sure,” Evan teased, smiling as they walked inside.
When Tommy confided that he was afraid to be around kids, Evan couldn’t quite see why. Tommy seemed perfectly at ease with Jee-Yun. He took her on a little tour of his backyard, showing off not just the strawberries but also the tomatoes, leafy greens, and all the flowers in his raised bed. He also told Jee about the rabbits family that made a visit a few days ago, lifted her up (even though it was clear that Tommy hesitated at first) to see the tube feeder he’d nailed to the tree for the birds and the little nest they made right above it (Jee squealed when tommy pointed at the little eggs there), and let Jee shake the dry food container that called bunch of his neighborhood cats over.
As she began to look tired, Evan suggested heading inside, but Jee-Yun wasn’t having it. Then Tommy chimed in, “How about we watch a movie? I’ve got some good ones. Have you seen ‘Baby’s Day Out,’ Jee? It’s so good.” Just like that, she magically obeyed.
When Jee-Yun seemed completely absorbed in the movie, Evan leaned in close to Tommy’s ear, whispered, “Hey, is it okay if I make dinner?”
Tommy, equally engrossed in the scene, jumped a little before responding. “Oh, yeah, sure.”
“You’ll be okay?”
He glanced down at Jee-Yun, who was nestled between them, slightly leaning toward his side. A soft smile touched his lips. “Of course.”
Evan smiled back. “Okay then, won’t be long.” He promised, placing a gentle kiss on Tommy’s cheek before carefully standing up so as not to break Jee-Yun’s focus.
Once he put the ingredients on the kitchen counter, his smiles grew way bigger as he watched the scene unfold on the couch—Jee-Yun was now fully leaning into Tommy, almost in his lap, both laughing at the action on the screen.
Evan made sure to snap a few pictures of it.
Evan tasted his sauce again; it was good, perfect even. He switched off the stove, carefully took the bagel pizza out of the oven to set it on the countertop. But then, the scene before him stopped him in his tracks. Tommy and Jee were still on the couch, but instead of watching TV, the TV was watching them asleep.
Tommy was sprawled out, his arms dangling by his sides, while Jee was fully stretched out, her head resting comfortably on Tommy’s thigh. Evan could already picture the little drool spots that would likely end up on Tommy’s jeans or the couch, he might as well start preparing an apology for it.
Leaving his food behind, he tiptoed out of the kitchen. Seeing them up close like this, he didn’t have the heart to wake them. They looked so exhausted. So instead, he quietly grabbed a light throw blanket from the bedroom, draped it over Jee, and softly kissed both of their temples.
Evan smiled to himself. And, of course, he couldn’t resist taking a few pictures of it too.
When Maddie arrived thirty minutes later, Evan met her at the front porch, whispering for her not to make a noice and to head straight to the living room. As soon as she saw them, she smiled warmly at Evan, who beamed back, proud of the scene he’d directed.
“You picked a good one this time, I admit.” Maddie said with a grin.
Evan’s smile grew even wider, his eyes twinkling. “I know, right?”
Maddie left after Chimney told her that Anne had been discharged, after some hard persuading to convince Jee that it was getting late, and they needed to check on her grandmother, and they could play again some time. Evan almost caved when he saw Jee's teary eyes, ready to let her stay the night, but Maddie firmly shook her head. “No, you two have a morning shift tomorrow. Go get some rest.”
They slumped back on the couch after saying their goodbyes to Maddie and Jee.
“Now it feels so empty,” Tommy sighed.
Evan chuckled. “Exactly. Every time her parents pick her up from my place, it suddenly feels so quiet.” He glanced at Tommy, nudged him lightly. “But hey, you did great today.”
Tommy turned to him, looking unsure. “Really? Did I make a good impression?”
“Baby, you’re kidding. Jee loves you!”
“Really?”
“God, yes!” Evan laughed, cradling Tommy’s face in his hands before pressing a tender kiss to his lips. Then another. And one more for good measure. “You’re going to be a great father.”
Tommy’s smile faltered. “I’m not so sure about that.”
Evan’s eyes softened, his voice gentle but unwavering. “I am. You’re so good with Jee. That says a lot.”
Tommy’s expression lightened a bit, his heart warmed. “Well, I’m glad then. She’s your niece, your family. I want to be good for your family.”
Evan’s heart swelled. God, he loved this man. Their relationship might be only one month old but Evan was so sure to build a family with him. “And you're doing so good. I might even give you a reward for that right now.” He smirked and leaned in for a deeper kiss.
“Mmh, babe, the dishes—”
“The dishes can wait.”
Their date might still have been canceled, but this time, for a much better reason. Evan made a mental note to plan an even better date to make up for it.
The next day, Evan was greeted with a stream of messages from Maddie when he opened his phone after a call. He wondered if something had happened to Anne again, but when he glanced back at Chimney, he seemed okay. He clicked the notification bubble, only to be bombarded with misspelled texts.
Tumblr media
He spent a whole minute to beamed at how Jee-Yun called Tommy as Uncle Tommy there. He took a screenshot of it, then sent it to Tommy.
Look at what you did, she even used four pleese, he typed.
A few minutes later, his phone pinged with a reply from Tommy: Be ready to be Jee’s second favorite uncle, babe. With a winking face emoji next to it.

BiAsBuck’s ficrec Fridays
Happy WTF Friday everyone?! YIKES ON BIKES. That sure was an episode.
Back again with another round of the fic I've been reading this week. You can find previous rec lists here. As previously I'm here for henren and all buddie/bucktommy/buddietommy configurations...and apparently this week, all of heroic_pants' Buck and/or Eddie with Josh fic?!
Bring on the drama. *eyes next week's potential list like...welp*
10 May 2024
a mouth full of teeth and nothing to sing by @cal-daisies-and-briars A HEN CENTRIC FIC!!!!! I'm living. Post 07x03, Hen struggles to process the cruise ship rescue and drunk driver call in the midst of ongoing tension with her friends. In which Hen gets the apologies she deserves and gets to vent her frustrations, whilst also self examining her own actions. Fantastic crunchy characterisation.
time will tell by @bekkachaos '5 times Hen and Karen suspect Buck might not be one hundred percent straight, and 1 time they realise they were so damn right. aka., Henren knows and they occasionally speculate about Buck, and Eddie, and now, Tommy.' For everyone absolutely thriving over that reaction in 7x06.
Better Late Than Never by @pop-me soft semi-somnophilic sapphic henren married vibes which I ADORED. Pillow princess Karen, as she deserves. A gorgeous little slice of life domestic scene that was truly so loving and sexy, loved it.
and my heart and my hat by Anonymous (who are you mysterious author, I love your Tommy voice SO MUCH!) This was such a great Tommy POV from 7x03-7x04, charting his feelings from the moment Chim calls him to ask for his help with the cruise ship search, through to the kiss. I really enjoyed the whole ensemble camaraderie of this fic, Tommy's perspective on Hen, as well as the lovely moments where we see all the ways Buck just being Buck is charming to Tommy. So enjoyable.
raspberry. by @buckttommy good lord...hot!!!!! Buck, Tommy, a gay club, a handsome stranger, exhibitionism and some exploratory D/S vibes. This was just *fans self* super sensuous and unabashedly queer, I loved it.
And if you threw a party, and invited everyone you knew by @pantsaretherealheroes In which 'Eddie wakes up the morning after Maddie and Chimney’s wedding with a hangover, and unexpected bed-mate, has a panic attack and a hell of a realisation. Josh makes coffee. They talk.' This is ultimately a buddie fic, but with some glorious supportive Josh along the way, with just the right amount of cattiness too. I just really loved this dynamic and odd couple vibe.
are we still friends? can we be friends? by @pantsaretherealheroes ok how about that, but instead Buck and Josh genuinely have a casual dating set up and all sorts of fun together, mutually agreeing to keep each other in the loop if it stops being what they want. Meanwhile Eddie is PINING, and Maddie is feeling some kind of way about it all. I just really enjoyed the maturity of the dating within these parameters, and the complicated feelings along the way.
treat your mouth as if it's heaven's gate by @bucktheally this is the fourth part in an bucktommy alternative meeting bright as the morning, soft as the rain series in which Tommy was never part of the 118, but can also be read standalone. Look this instalment of the fic got me totally enchanted the moment that Buck set himself up with his laptop 'intent on Wikipedia’ing himself into the queer community in-between naps.' Perfect characterisation. No notes. The fic is sexy, sweet, and I love the development of their relationship set up from this initial premise. Buck just loves to learn!
Won't Be Long Before I Belong by @justaswampdemon a post madney wedding coda fic in which Buck accidentally comes out via soot and Tommy meets everyone. Sweet, tender, gentle and caring.
PS - once again sending out the signal to ask if you have any henren authors/fic recs I should check out PLEASE let me know! I love them!

a (long) comprehensive list of buck related things in 7x04 that have me losing it as i rewatch:
- the stupid starry eyed look he has while getting the tour from tommy
- the terrible “i need mo jo” joke that tommy laughs at purely bc it was endearing
- “you didn’t call me because you wanted to see the toys”
- “you need to raise your bar kid” my GOD the “kid”
- ofc, the “no way!! eddie was in the army!”

- not buck related: but i adore ravi so much
- OKAY BUT BUCKS STUTTER !! they way he trips over his words when he’s surprised or nervous or even upset 😭
- “i do. i really do.” MY GOD OH MY GOD FUCK ASHHH AHHH
- and the SIGH after as eddie walks away, the building up the courage to ask more
- THE SAY HIS FACE DROPS WHEN EDDIE ASKS HIM TO WATCH CHRIS OHHH EDMUNDO WHEN I CATCH YOU
- “i keep saying, chris it’s not a video game” “because it’s harder than a video game???” maddie i see you and am so sorry you have to deal with this
- SAME WITH “he’s made an impression in a very short time” “i can see that” LIKE SHE IS SO NOT GONNA BE SURPRISED WHEN BUCK COMES OUT TO HER 😭
- “i don’t think you lie to a child just to ingratiate yourself” bro it’s not that serious i promise
- sorry brb imagining buck asking chris all these questions about tommy and chris going 🤔🤔🤔

- the pouting OLEASE he’s so
- his smile
- the “evan” throws me off every TIME but also it kindaaaaa
- “what are the odds?” bro chill
- the smile when tommy fists bumps him oh i see you gay boy even if you don’t yet
- “so i’m your basketball beard” brother you don’t even KNOW
- i’m sorry the song that’s playing while they play basketball is “playing with the boys”🤔🤔… the lyrics too “i don’t wanna be obsessed but my desire with the boys” (and YES i am aware it’s a top gun reference, however that movie is also gay is hell and so is this song, moving on)
- tommy cocking his head when buck runs into him like oh my
- poor chim does not deserve to be put in the middle of all of this
- “well you bucked that up didn’t you” :(
- okay this scene between maddie and buck afterwards is actually so important to me, i love their ability to communicate, and how buck openly admits that he doesn’t know if he meant to hurt eddie or not, and that he was angry and lashed out, and maddie’s reaction to it :( “that’s not how you get someone’s attention”
- “i guess i was trying to get his attention” buck is the representative of the “i don’t know why i do the things i do until tons of self reflection after the fact” club, same im the president actually
- i do love that we get to watch him try and figure out why he acts and feels the way he does in real time! even at the end he still doesn’t entirely know until tommy is in his face staring at his lips
- the stutter is back 🫶
- “evan…” STOP THE WAY HE SAYS IT THAT TIME MAKES ME GIGGLE I CANT
- this entire scene drives me crazy btw i can literally pick it apart piece by piece… but the way he smiles throughout it makes my heart go akrjeidjdjsjd
- the chemistry is fucking IMMACULATE btw!! the flirting is so natural and it shows through buck being oblivious about it!! like brother no one stands that close to each other
- buck figuring out how he feels AS he speaks!!! poor boy is trying to catch up as fast as he can
- everything about the “okay” after tommy says “i can teach you”… the smile, the eye squint, the head tilt, like oh my GOD
- the way the tone changes when buck says “good” my GOD, the way his face drops as he comes to the realization that maybe it was about tommy the whole time
- the “cause trying to get your attention has been kinda exhausting” punches me in the gut EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS LIKE FUCK OH MY GOD BUCK LIKES MEN FR? and the way he says it GOD, like i said, he’s literally figuring this out as the words come out of his mouth (“i guess so”)
- okay my ONE nitpick about the kiss scene is that tommy grabs his chin, and then when it cuts it’s the two fingers under the chin, it’s inconsistent and i think i like the chin grab better
- the absolute STUNNED look in bucks eyes after the kiss!!! as the perfect oliver stark put it: he’s found something he’s been missing for a long time
- tommy is so worried in the split second before buck tells him that it was okay
- the wordless nod after tommy asks if it was okay THIS MEANS SO MYCH TO ME
- you can FEEL the sense of relief and wholeness radiating off of buck
- “better than fake mouth static” AKSHSISHS
- his eyes following tommy’s lips as he laughs, and then the brief look down like his whole WORLD has just been turned upside down before tommy speaks again
- i am so fucking here for buck being asked out and being stunned by it
- the stutter again 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
- tommy’s smile as he leaves like tee hee ur kinda cute
- the entire of his expressions at the end. there’s panic, there’s confusion, there’s happiness OLIVER STARK THE MAN THAT YOU ARE !!!!
in conclusion: this is everything i wanted and more, the brain rot is everywhere, i cannot escape this episode

Misunderstanding
Tumblr media
Tommy x Evan “Buck”
A/n: i write a lot of Tommy and Buck. Imma write something different. Eventually.
Summary: Its Bucks off day and he decided he was going to bake some cookies and bring them to Tommy at work. When he arrives he spots Tommy talking to someone hes never seen before. Hes about to walk over to his boyfriend when the man kisses Tommy. Buck stops and turns around walking away before seeing or hearing Tommys reaction.
————
~Bucks POV~
I feel Tommys lips on mine as he gives me a goodbye kiss. “See you later.” He whispers. I hear the bedroom door click shut and drift back into sleeping.
When i woke up i made me some oatmeal and watched an episode of The Bachelor. When i was done i was bored. Eddie went down to Texas to vist with Christopher. I’m glad the two are making mends, i know it hurt Eddie when Chris left to live with his grandparents in Texas.
Maddie and Chim are taking a short trip to Long Beach. And Hen and Karin are dealing with the foster people to get Nia. So im out of options when it comes to hanging out with someone.
I decided im going to bake some cookies for Tommy and his station, so i get to work. I’m going to make a variety and an allergy free batch.
Once i finished i put the cookies in some boxes and loaded them into my jeep. I didnt text Tommy that i was coming because i want it to be a surprise.
When i arrived i parked my jeep and grabbed the boxes of cookies with a big smile on my face. I walked into the station and scanned the area looking for Tommy.
“Looking for Tommy?” Someone asks. “Yes.” I answer. Everyone here knows who i am. “Hes upstairs in the kitchen.” The person says. “Thanks.” I smile and make my way up the stairs.
When i get to the top i turn the corner and see Tommy talking to someone i’ve never seen before. Hes tall and skinny but well built, he has short curly blonde hair. I cant tell what color his eyes are but the way he is looking at Tommy is making me uneasy and hes standing really close to Tommy. Tommy is leaning against the counter just keeping conversation.
I was about to say his name when the guy leans forwards giving Tommy a kiss. That was all i needed to see even though thats not what i wanted to see. My heart instantly sank and i turned away and got out of there as fast as i could.
I threw the boxes of cookies in the trunk not caring if they spilled out and drove out of there as fast as I could.
I drove to my apartment because i obviously didnt want to go back to Tommys bouse where i’ve been staying at most of the time anyways.
When i walked in it was kind of cold but it didn’t bother me because i was flamming with anger. I cant believe Tommy kissed another guy. I tried not to cry but it was too hard to hold back. I really thought he was the one, that he wouldnt cheat on me. I guess i was wrong.
——-
~Tommys POV~
Everything was going fine at work, had a few easy calls. We got a new person his name is Kaleb Green, great young kid. Hes been doing really good.
We were in the kitchen just talking about why we wanted to become a firefighter and the craziest calls we have ever been on.
“So is your locker the one with the gay pride flag on it?” He asks me. “Yes?” I answer carefully. I dont think this kid is a homophobe or anything but im alway cautious when it comes to telling people. I have no shame in being a gay man but having such a masculine job some people may see me differently.
“Thats so cool. Another gay firefighter. I’ve never met another one. I dont feel so alone now.” He says. “Oh, well actually…” i was going to tell him about Evan but before i could finish my sentence he leaned forward and kissed me. I definitely was not expecting that.
“Dude! What the hell?!” I shout shoving him off of me. “Sorry. Too far?” He stupidly asks. “Yes way too far! Plus i have a boyfriend. He happens to be a firefighter too.” I snap. “Please dont report me. I really like it here” he begs. “Too late.” I tell him walking out of the kitchen.
I walk downstairs to report him when i see a familiar grey jeep leaving the parking lot pretty fast. I hope that wasnt Evan.
“Hey Kinard, what did Evan bring you?” Steven asks from a far. “Shit” i say under my breath that was Evan and he probably saw what happened in the kitchen because i never saw him.
I was about to ask if i could handle this when a call came through. I had to push down my anger and my worries about what just happened and focus on the call. God i hope its a simple call so it goes by fast.
It was not. It was a warehouse fire and the warehouse contained toxic chemicals so everything we did had to be done carefully and correctly. It took the rest of the shift.
We finally got back to the station at 11pm. I grabbed my bag and headed straight for my truck. “Hey Kinard.” I hear Kaleb call out behind me. “Dont talk to me. You most likely just ended my relationship with Evan and he was the best thing thats ever came into my life.” I snap at him. Which I probably said too much, based off his facial expressions, but i need to talk to Evan tell him what happened and pray that he believes me. “Let me talk to him, then i’ll ask for a new placement.” Kaleb says, “let me fix this.” He adds. “No you are not talking to him and yes find a new placement. Its not going to work for you here.” I tell him throwing my bag in the truck and drove home.
——
When i arrive home i dont see Evans jeep which means hes not here. I dont know why i thought he would be at my house after all. I mean yeah hes been staying here most of his time anyways but this would be the last place he would come after seeing another guy kiss me.
I try calling him and texting him but hes not answering, rightfully so. I drive over to his apartment next. I see his jeep parked in its usual spot so i know hes here.
I knock on his door immediately when i arrive. No response. “Evan its me. Please can we talk?” I ask through the door loud enough he should be able to here me. After a few more moments of knocking and asking nicely I threaten to do a welfare check and kick down his door.
I then heard the sound of locks unlocking and the door opened to a cold apartment and a tall Evan with a tear stained face and a angry blank expression.
“Evan please listen, i didnt kiss him. He kissed me.”i say, this is a lot more nerve racking than i thought. Its so hard not to stutter and to hse the right wording. “I saw you Tommy.” Evans voice cracks, he walks to the other end of the table while im at the other. Hes so close but het so far.
“Evan i would never cheat on you. Please believe me. We were talking and he asked if my locker was the one with the gay pride flag. Next thing i felt his lips on mine and i pushed him away. I swear.” I tell him the whole story but i cant tell if he believes me or not.
How do you convince your partner that you aren’t cheating on them when they saw another guy kiss you? I feel like im losing him and i really dont want to.
——-
~Bucks POV~
I listen to what Tommy is telling me and my brain is telling me not to believe him but my heart is telling me that hes telling the truth. Because Tommy is the first person to ever so me the type of personal affection, how it feels to be loved. Even though we haven’t said it yet we can feel it when we cuddle, when we get intimate, and when we say the same thing at the same time.
But in this case what do i go with my brain or my heart? Part of me wants to just believe him and go back to how things were but the other half wants to kick him out of my apartment and never talk to him again.
“Evan everyone in this situation had a misunderstanding.” Tommy says. “How am I misunderstanding this Tommy?” I ask in anger. “Okay, okah, im sorry. Wrong words here. Kaleb had a misunderstanding with what i said and he didnt let me finish talking before he kissed me. I was literally about to tell him about you when he kissed me.” Tommy explains.
“Thats what they all say.” I mumble under my breath. “Say what?” Tommy asks. “That the other person kissed them.” I answer. “Evan….” Tommy says, he can tell hes losing me.
It was quiet for a few moments as each of us trys to think of something. “I’ll come get my stuff tomorrow.” I say finally breaking the silence. “W-w-w-what?” Tommy stutters. “I said i’ll come get my stuff from your house tomorrow. While your at work so we dont see each other.” I repeat. Evans face goes into panic mode as he runs a frantic hand through his rough hair.
“Evan please. Im telling the truth. Listen Kaleb said he will talk to you. He’ll tell you everything i just said is true.” Tommy says all in one breath trying to convince me. “Please leave Tommy.” I ask. I’ve been hurt by too many people that are supposed to love me to try again and risk getting hurt again and again and again.
“Evan, baby please.” Tommy begs. “Stop. Get out Tommy. Get out before i call the police.” I command. Tommy rubs his chin with his hand as he turns to the door. He looks back at me one more time before he forces himself out the door.
Now im all alone, again. I should just stay single the rest of my life clearly everyone is going to hurt me when i get close to them.
——
The next day i wait intil i know Tommy is going to be at work so i can go get my clothes from over there.
When i arrive i dont see his truck which means he went to work today. I walk up to the door and i go to type in the code to unlock the door when the door opens. I look up and see the guy from yesterday. Kaleb.
I wanted to punch the guy so bad. He messed up the one good thing i had in my life. “Evan, right?” He asks. “So you’re Tommys new side piece huh?” I snarl. “Please let me explain myself. I never ment for any of this to happen. Can we just talk?” He asks stepping aside for me to come in. I roll my eyes and walk into the house.
I took a seat at the island in the kitchen as I listened to Kaleb talk. He basically said that it was his fault that he made the move and he ruined his chance at the firehouse. He said that he’s been transferred to a new one.
“So do you believe Tommy now? That he wouldn’t cheat on you?” Kaleb asks. “He was going to come tell you instantly but we got a call. You know how it is.” “Yeah.” Is all i say. “Well i have to get going. I really hope you can forgive Tommy. He really loves you.” Kaleb says as he lets himself out.
I sat at the kitchen island with my head in my hands thinking about what to do when i saw Tommy standing in the entrance of the kitchen leaning against the wall frame.
His body language was soft and his face was filled with regret. Hearing both sides of the story and that basically Tommy was telling the truth made it a little easier to go with my heart. But still knowing another guy kissed him hurts a little.
——
~Tomms POV~
I stood there and watched Evan as he proceeded what Kaleb told him. I can’t believe i caved and let Kaleb talk to Evan but its the only thing I could think of that could save mine and Evans relationship.
“So its true.” Evan finally says. “Yes.” I say. “A lot of people hurt me in the last Tommy.” He says. “I know. I never wanted to be one of them.” I try to control my voice to keep it steady.
“I know.” Evan says, “it still hurts that another guy kissed you.” He says. “It wont happen again. I swear to you Evan.” I promise him. “I know.” He says, a small smile spread across my face.
I walk towards him keeping an eye on his body language. “So do you forgive me?” I ask when im standing in front of him. I feel like im shaking as i wait for an answer. “Yes.” Evan tilts his head up and makes eye contact with me.
A smile spread my face as i lifted his chin up with my finger and connected my lips to his. God it felt so good to feel his lips against mine again. “What were you bringing me yesterday?” I ask out of curiosity. “Cookies. They are spilled in the back of my jeep.” He answers. “You taste better than cookies.” I say shrugging my shoulders. He smiles at that.
“I missed you so much.” I say against his lips resting my forehead against his. “I missed you too.” He says. I cradle the back of his head with my hand as i take his mouth back into mine.
I have him back and im never letting him go again.

Just a cute genderbend fanfic of ouaw cast
(small spoilers????)
Everybody was relaxing in the inn after a battle that led to frost using too much magic and causing him to have a fever. Frost was in his room having fever dreams as others just talk downstairs. They had nowhere to be urgently so they decided to relax after a while until frost gets better.
They were talking with twig occasionally getting away to grab drinks and sometimes hot jonhs. Torbek finally smelling less like piss (still smells like but its not that unbearable now) and sipping on hot milk as he listens to the party talk what they did before they met torbek. And also about the wedding that happend after torbek left.
Twig also listening to what they did, it seemed so adventurous and fun, she wanted to experience it too. Twig often chimming in with "and??" To get them talking if they took a pause between talking.
It was peaceful, too peaceful. Gricko went upstairs to check on frost, perhaps change the wet towel on his forehead or if he is awake then give him some food. Then everybody suddenly felt on edge as if they knew something was about to happend. They didnt know what. They knew something was about to go horrible wrong.
They continued to talk downstairs as gricko went to check frost, trying to scout out what was making them on edge. Then frost began to head downstairs with gricko trying his best to convince him to get back to bed, of course frost being the person he is he didnt want to be useless in battle beacuse he himself felt on edge.
Frost sat down next to Gideon, Gricko has put frost in a blanket and making him a burrito. Frost head felt heavy as he leaned into gideon's shoulder to rest it there.
Then the thing they have all been waiting for happens. Suddenly everybody feels too dizzy to keep their eyes open. Twig who was standing needed to urgently sit down or she would plummet to the floor.
The unbearable headache and dizziness was there for 1 minute,2 minutes, 3 minutes before finally stopping.
The room fell silent. Not even mice made sounds. Everybody looks around shocked. Everybody was genderbend.
Panic soon started. "WHAT THE FUCK?" Kremy yells out first as he looks at his tits, he couldnt see much of them since his mouth was in the way jut he felt them and saw atleast something.
Gideon looked bewildered at his chest. Frost is too tired to have an reaction and just burries his head into gideons shoulder.
Gricko is sizing his breasts, its not the first time he had tits so he was now a bit used to that. Torbek suprisingly doesnt change at all.
"What is ha- what is with my voice??" Twig stops mid sentence, her voice isnt too much deeper but its deeper then used to.
"Okay everybody calm down. Im sure its just fae messing with us again...." Kremy tries to take care of the situation, frost is is usually the one who does that but frost isnt able to barely do anything.
"Well im quite okay with this" "of course you are, gricko! But not us" gideon says as he looks around the room again. Its so weird to have more weight on his person.
Gideon looks at frost. He doesnt seem much of a difference on him, maybe the fae didnt do anything to him beacuse he is ill?
"Okay im sure this will go away soon, maybe twig can do something." Gricko now taking over the control as his daughter? Son? Looks at him, if hootsie genderbend too you couldnt even see it.
Twig looks at her companions as they have a spark of hope that she can somehow help. "I dont know if i can do anything..."
"Well thats alright twiggy, dont worry too much" Gideon places a hand on twigs hand and messes up her hair, he did it carefully as not to disturb frost.
"Uhh... torbek has a question. If frost is a tabaxi, wouldnt he have multiple tits..?" This question is absurd..... but everybody wants to know.
Frost suddenly loses his fever, his head stops pounding, his mind isnt a fuzzy mess. His full body slowly restored after being genderbend.
Frost heard the question as he now sits upright. "Well, since tabaxi lean more towards human then cat, so to answer the question, no. I dont have multiple breasts."
"Oh! You okay frosty?" Gricko comes closer to frost to make sure he is feeling more okay "ah yes, im quite alright now gricko, it would seem that this genderbend has cured my fever." "Oh thats good!"
A slow lullaby song can be quietly heard coming from outside and they genderbend back.
This was very stupid and i love it. Hope yall enjoyed it too

"Tommy was homophobic and racist, and now he's Buck's love interest?!"
Yes. Life it not a perfectly smooth line. Real life is not a friends to lovers 200k words fanfic you pour your wholesome fantasies into. For many people, life sucks then sometimes, it gets better.
I know it's tempting to say that Tommy was an asshole before the writers decided to change his narrative, and it's an important discussion to have. Because at first he kinda was, for what we could see. Though they only showed the 118 back then with 2 probies, Chim and Hen, so we don't even know how it would have gone with a white cishet probie.
But if you're dead set on thinking Tommy didn't change, or just conveniently changed, you really need to meet more people outside of people your age, your social circle and your fandoms.
A scared closeted person, and especially a man, will not hesitate a single second to over perform as a "real dude" and use any kind of discrimination as a defense mechanism and to fit the mold. Tommy was evolving in a very white and macho environment. The 118 was a real white boys club. Survival is also about being able to hide in plain sight and sometimes it means acting like the worst to make sure people see the character and not what's under the mask.
I'd have to rewatch the episodes from season 2 to be 100% sure but I think at the time, we see Tommy look around when things get tense. I don't know if Lou was directed to do that or if he just chose to play Tommy like that but Tommy is looking at the others, especially to Gerrard, to see how they react, probably to match their reaction. Like when Hen makes her great speech about "seeing them", Tommy turns around to see how Gerrard is taking this. And I took that as him waiting to see how he's supposed to react based on how the leader will react. This is also what you do to hide in plain sight: you keep your enemies, or potential threats, closer. You laugh at their jokes, you shake the same hands, you reject the same things. When Chim tried to befriend Tommy, Tommy just stayed silent, but Chim really wanted to start a conversation so Tommy had to say something mean so Chim would leave him alone. You can't be seen befriending the outsider either.
Then Chim saves Tommy and the whole dynamic changes because bros will be bros (and for the sake of drama and a positive storytelling, etc, etc.). They also make Tommy openly admit to Chim that his favorite movie is Love Actually and this wasn't a random choice. Tommy probably started to feel safe around Chim without giving too much away.
Also the Twilight gay "joke"? I mean come on, Tommy played dumb to make it look like he was so not gay he didn't get it. And I'd love to know if the writers really wrote Tommy as possibly queer at the time, because this reaction in particular was way too obvious. It's almost on the same level as Buck panicking during his date with Tommy and saying they'll find hot chicks after that. Again, over performing to protect themselves.
So to me, going from Tommy at the 118 to Tommy being out and proud of being who he is absolutely makes sense and I love that for him. We do love a good character growth, and drawing this kind of parallels with real life also needs to be done. Because it definitely happens in real life.
Also, don't forget it's a TV show. They will write nonsense sometimes and contradict themselves, and make questionable choices for the sake of keeping the story on rails.
