the way this played in an episode of the OC i was watching the other day and it gave me goosebumps...

Admittedly, there are a few distracting things that are bothering me. Things like why the futz does Harrowhawk keep calling her Griddle?

Why does the author continually shift what she refers to the girls as?

Why does she keep using modern-ish references to things when this world is supposed to be so dank and dark and awful?

Gideon refers to acne as pizza face, but does she even know the reference? Do they HAVE pizzza that she could have seen, or is this just lazy writing on the writer’s part? The point of gruel and disgusting sounding foods was clear and yet …

The coarse language and modern-ish teenage writing style is fine for fanfic and teenage writers, but I am already sorely disappointed in a PUBLISHER allowing this to go to print as is. Revise it. hire an editor.

as well as being incredibly misogynistic and demeaning, "catfight" just isn't an accurate term for what's being described most of the time. if you refer to two women fighting as a "catfight" i'd better see them growling at each other with blood under their nails and deep jagged scratches carved into their skin where they tried to disembowel each other with their bare hands. they'd better be tearing out chunks of each other's flesh with their bloodstained teeth and trying to gouge each other's eyes out. if you're going to be a sexist loser you can at least do us real sicknasty perverts the favour of not half-assing it.

Thinking about Matt and Neil going on their own country tour together during Matt's last year spring break where Matt has a big signing bonus for his team.

Matt: "Hey Andrew, you know how you and Neil have those cute couple road trips during school breaks?" Andrew: "We're not-"

Matt: "So I'm taking him this time and we're going to have our own cute couple road trip. Bye!"
