It's a bowl of pacifiers in the Lost & Found Department. Idk if this is to indicate that they collect them from infants that die, or if they give them out like lollipops at a doctor's office. Either way, kinda fucked up lmfao 😬
Is Port Townsend so gossipy that the Dead Boy Detective Agency’s arrival and their mission statement spread across the whole ghost community in town after just one case?
Or are the Dead Boy Detectives Agency known world wide?
Because if it’s the first one, then how quickly after they arrived did people start gossiping about them? Was there a ghost in the Police Department that saw Edwin take Becky’s shoes and told people? Did one of the ghosts overhear the cats talking about them and it spread like wildfire?
But if it’s the second one, then it’s so funny that the Lost and Found Department/the Night Nurse hasn’t had ANY idea where they were before this. Like not even enough to investigate prior to Charles possessing Esther.
You’re telling me that if they’ve solved so many cases that they’re known across the sea that none of the people they’ve saved before has been interviewed/processed by the Lost and Found Department before? Seems unlikely to me in thirty+ years.
Like I know they’re understaffed and overworked but it’s so funny to me to imagine the L&F department getting enough information on them to have a shared file on them but not enough that they have any idea where they are.
Maybe every other child whose case they’ve solved before was like we’re not snitches and the Devlin children accidentally were, like whoops?
Plus if it’s true, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities to imagine that maybe one of the ghosts from Port Townsend sent the flyer to the boy’s agency.
Maybe because that ghost has a connection to the Aspen family or because they had a case they wanted to bring to the boy’s attention and thought this would be a good way to get them in town?
Or maybe it was one of Esther’s previous victims? I mean, we see Emma (the ghost from the first episode who sent them in Crystal’s direction) clearly navigating the ghostly word despite being young so whose to say one of Esther’s previous victims couldn’t do the same?
If it was a ghost connected to the Aspen family or one of Esther’s victims they might have moved on once Becky was saved or when Esther was dragged off by Lilith so we just never see them.
If it was someone who wanted a case solved maybe it was one of the ghosts we saw (do you think they solved any other cases off screen? Or is the evil seagull still causing havoc in Port Townsend? lol).
Genuinely not sure which option is funnier to me.
Solve one case, get trapped in town, and everyone’s gossiping about you to the point where you got people lined about around the block to see if you’re up to stuff.
Or ghost celebrities are in town, talk to them while you can, and everyone lines up to do exactly that.
another funny kind of narrative dissonance with dead boy detectives is like. okay. so the boys are convinced that once a ghost's unfinished business is done, Death can find them immediately and take their souls. Which she does. When they're ready to go, she arrives and takes them where they need to go. But therefore this means that the boys immediately have to run away as soon as a case is finished or she'll take them too.
But there's also like. A whole community of ghosts. Just kind of hanging around. Everywhere. Like. In general. There are a lot of ghosts. They seem to be a whole entire community of ghosts. Emma hangs around in a graveyard, a place infamously not associated with death. Suicides apparently automatically get a special version of being a ghost where they are not in Hell but also not taken by Death to the afterlife. Like. Are all these ghosts also under the impression they're like. Pulling a fast one on Death? Do they all think that she can simultaneously turn up to where a ghost is within seconds but also somehow fails to notice a whole community of ghosts just kind of chilling in the same place for decades. Or is this like, a Charles and Edwin thing that no one has the heart to correct them on despite the fact that most ghosts are fully aware that Death simply does not give a fuck where they hang around.
I don't like how the afterlife department people said that the two dead Devlin girls were "Haunting" a house for 29 years. Sure, they were THERE for 29 years, but what they were doing wasn't haunting. They were stuck in a loop, and it wasn't their choice. It just really makes me think about how people say that ghosts are haunting their house, when the ghosts are really the ones being haunted by their past, unable to move on
about the fact that P. falciparum (the most dangerous kind of malaria) was likely endemic at least from the 2nd century BC onward
that Galen said semitertian fevers (P. falciparum infections) were more common in Rome than anywhere else in the Roman Empire
that the most severe manifestations of P. falciparum (quotidian fevers + cerebral malaria) were most common in babies and young children, an epidemiological observation that indicates the transmission rate of P. falciparum was extremely high in Rome
that Quintus Serenus said there was no Latin word for semitertian fevers (they used a transliteration of the Greek, 'hemitritaeos') because "no one, i think, could have named it in our language and mothers would not have wanted to"
Gotta a better pic on my computer of Charles' file folder in S1E3 and
"If this lost soul has not previously been reincarnated prior to two years [of] today's date, please check "No".
SO
There's reincarnation in this universe! And is this implying that if you aren't reincarnated within two years of dying, that you will no longer be able to reincarnate?
New friend: Hey can I ask you two personal questions?
Me: Uh, maybe.. what questions?
NF: You mentioned being ace, are you aro too? If so could you tell me how you know? Also you said you use any pronouns, can I ask how I should switch pronouns?
... ( 3 hours and many messages about being aro, relationship anarchy, and our experiences as mathematicians trying to be okay with not defining everything about ourselves)...
NF: So anyway I planned to message you because I just wanted to say thanks for attending our meeting yesterday!
but the fact that Niko helped create the Lost and Found department in the afterlife BECAUSE she met Edwin and Charles. It exists because of them, and their friendship with Niko. Im fine. Totally fine.
