I thought when I posted The many occupations of fic Louis de Pointe du Lac that there really weren't enough non-rockstar ones to do a similar list for Lestat. But I was wrong! It turned out that he has nearly as many diverse talents in the various fic AUs as Louis!

Lestat hums, watching him. Louis holds his gaze, waiting. Lestat exhales, a long, drawn out breath, and then nods, once. “Don’t say I did not warn you, Louis.” Louis clicks his tongue, and then waves his hand. “Well, you know, I mean, one only knows after, and…” He sees the darkening of Lestat’s gaze, and hurries to continue. “What I mean is, that nothing could have prepared me for the turning back then, mon cher, and nothing can really prepare me now. But… we will manage.” Lestat’s gaze is shadowed. “As simple as that?” Louis quirks an eyebrow. “As simple as that.”

The muscles in Lestat’s jaw jump. “Promise?”

There is a lot in that simple word, a vulnerability that tears at Louis’ heart, and a desperation in regards to all that they have been through already.

He smiles softly, and then lifts their hands to kiss the blood tears off the skin. “Je promets.”

Summary:

Of car crashes and the inevitability of a reunion that cannot be fought against, no matter what timeline it falls upon. AU of season 1, episode 6. Or, what would happen if Claudia wasn't around to stop Louis from going back to Lestat that one time by the car?

Notes:

This idea came to me last year and although I did not write it at the time, it has stayed with me this entire time. I always intended to write it and this was when it was meant to happen. This is not a piece of fluff. Instead, it is a dark love that cannot be ignored despite all that is wrong and every sign screaming at Louis to run away from the blaring neon red flag that is Lestat. I did allow another author to use my idea at the time (I am always willing to share my ideas!), but now I am reclaiming it as my own. I like what I have created here and am proud to have been able to finish a piece since it has been a while now. I love loustat with all my heart and am so excited to see what season 2 brings to the table. I am so sure I will be in agony and loving every second of it. A new trailer drops tonight! I think I have rambled on long enough? Does anyone actually read these notes? If you are reading this, also note that the title comes from the Mitski song of the same name and you should listen to it if you haven't. I felt the song perfectly encapsulated how Louis feels since although he knows their love is an absolute mess and will never be a dreamy, pure, lovely thing, it's theirs, and no one loves him like Lestat, nor does he love anyone the way he loves Lestat. It's something Louis can't fight against.

Dear interview with the vampire fic writers . I have a request. Can you please write more Louis and Lestat fics in the tale of the body thief era ? Or even in Memnoch or the vampire Armand ? There's only 2 fics I've read about them in this timeline which I think is VERY Anne coded . Give us some headcanon in your story that Anne tried to not mention in her books 🥺🙏🏼
