I'm a fan of traits & trait mods and I really liked Atomtanned's mod /based on Dill's Turn-Ons & Turn-Offs/. This is quite an extensive edit - I just wanted to adjust it a little for my game and once I started I couldn't stop xD

I also included an optional mod that switches off Zodiac / Aspiration chemistry and balances out the chemistry bolts gain - so it makes chemistry betwen Sims much less complicated. Obviously it will only be useful for those who like to control every aspect of their Sims romantic lives. Details under the cut.

Trait-based Chemistry mod

It will replace original TS2 turn-ons and turn-offs with entirely new ones (only hair colors and fitness/fatness are unchanged!).

It conflicts with NickM406's No More Loading the * Family mod , and Tunaisafish’s Attraction Fix, make sure you don't have tunaisafish_fix_attractiontraits package in your Downloads.

🔸 Hobby requirements in Dill's / Atomtanned's versions (as well as interest) were set to 5 points, which is kinda an average in my game. I don't want TOs to trigger too easily so I've increased these to 8 points, just like Skill point requirements.

I also increased good reputation requirement from 30 to 60.

Above is the comparison of original vs new TOs, in the exact order.

FYI I've fixed the little mistake I've found in the mod - in my version stylish TO works as it should.

"ONLY TO Chemistry" mod

Conflicts with No Zodiac Chemistry by Belladovah , chemistry mods by Peanutty (it incorporates their "No zodiac and no Aspiration"mod) and any other that contain Attraction Constants BCON and Attraction Tuning BCON.

In unmodded TS2 game, interests and skills do not play part in attraction. Trait-based chemistry changes that only to some extent because Zodiac and Aspiration are more important. To make TOs the crucial attraction factor in my game, I disabled Zodiac / Aspiration Chemistry, and tweaked bolt requirements.

This mod makes chemistry between Sims straightforward and TO-based however various bonuses to attraction also apply (!), like Beauty Wish, Vacation bonuses, bonus for very good rep or penalty for extremely bad reputation (even if your Sim likes bad guys, they will be put off by Dirty Dirtbag status, and enticed by extremely good rep). Anyways, if you use this mod and your Sims have no other attraction bonuses, then:

if one Sim has a turn-on towards the other, and the other has none, it results in no bolts

if one Sim has two turn-ons towards the other, and the other has none, Sims have one bolt chemistry

if one Sim has a turn-on towards the other, and the other has a turn-off, it results in negative chemistry

if a couple has single turn-ons towards each other, it gives them one-bolt chemistry

couple has three turn-ons, that gives them two bolts

couple has three turn-ons, one turn-off, that gives them one bolt

couple has double turn-ons, they have three-bolt chemistry

Special bonuses granted by mods for certain Traits like the "irresistible" still matter of course.

🌹 atomtanned's Trait-Based Chemistry

I've used @lilbabydilljr's Turn-Ons & Turn-Offs for a while now, and I love that he added in 3t2 traits when calculating chemistry. I wanted to tweak it for my game, and I finally learned how to do so. This is a heavily-modified version of his mod, so most of the credit goes to him - I just added/removed traits and changed some images and text strings.

Like any mod that involves traits, this requires @hexagonal-bipyramid's Easy Inventory Check.

This is definitely the most involved BHAV editing I've done yet, so please let me know if you find any errors, as it's a bit hard to test in game.

UPDATE: If you use Clean UI (or any other UI mod that uses Clean UI as a base) this mod will need to load after. Or you can delete the turn-on images that are included with that mod.

UPDATE 2: @cityof2morrow let me know that this mod (and I believe any other custom turnon/turnoff mods) also conflict with NickM406's No More Loading the * Family mod. Thank you!!

01/18 - If you use any replacement UI built off of Clean UI, please ensure either this package loads after, or delete the turn on images that Clean UI includes. Thank you grilledcheese-aspiration for reminding me! The two turn-ons effected are ‘Musical’ and ‘Neat Freak’ which were originally ‘Hard Worker’ and ‘Unemployed.’

So I will say I probably should’ve done these differently (turn Creative into Artistic as opposed to Vampire, but whatever. They actually started out alphabetical in game which I thought was neat. They’re still fairly close!

But basically what I’ve done here is replace almost all the turn-ons with personality/trait based ones. I’m wishing we could mix and match individual turn-ons actually because as I write this list I’m already worried about people thinking there’s too many supernatural ones. But they’re used in my game so idk. They’re much more relevant than full face makeup I feel.

For badges sims require a silver level to have the turn-on. For skills I’ve increased it to 8 points, and if a turn-on mentions a hobby, a sim either needs 5 points or have it as their One True Hobby.

Chapter 22: Farm & Orchard

Welcome back to my Totally Lit Road Trip blog, where the lit stands for literary!

Today’s adventures took us all around Concord, MA, as we learned about Henry David Thoreau and Louisa May Alcott, as well their relationships with each other and other authors in the area. I think it says a lot about the authors that despite age and gender differences, they inspired each other’s writing and played a role in each other’s lives.

Jess and I started our morning at Thoreau Farm, where we were treated to a private tour, because we were the only ones there. Our tour guide, Barbara, is an amazing historian who told us the saga of the Thoreau family’s life on this farm. Even though Henry David Thoreau only lived there for eight months after he was born, the farm played a large role in his writing due to the stories his mother told him about the place. His grandmother, Mary Jones, was living in the house with her husband, and when he died, the “widow’s third” rule went into effect, meaning that even though she couldn’t own the house, she could legally continue living in 1/3 of it. Mary “swapped” homes with her daughter Cynthia (Thoreau’s mother), since she was younger and would have an easier time farming the land to make a profit. This is how Thoreau came to be born on a farm not technically owned by anyone in his family.

In 1995, when the last living owner of the house passed away, developers wanted to purchase the land and build condos. This prompted a group of historians and literature lovers to create a trust and raise the nearly $1M needed to purchase the land and restore the house. Rather than restoring it to its original form, as a lot of historical societies do with old houses, the trust wanted to refurbish in a way that would honor Thoreau’s memory and lifestyle. Given that he was a huge proponent of finding harmony in nature, the house was refurbished using recycled material and environmentally friendly paint, and uses solar panels to provide most of its electricity. 

One interesting tidbit about the house is that its original foundation was about 300 yards away from where it lies now, and no one really knows why it was moved. It certainly would have been easier to just build a new house on the place where it is now, and historians have not discovered a reason for its move.

Inside the house you can see most of the original floorboards and walls, which were repainted to match the original colors in the house, although they left a few spots un-painted for comparison. 

On our tour, Barbara told us about Thoreau and his siblings. He and his brother John both (unsuccessfully) proposed to the same woman. A few weeks later, John cut himself shaving and ultimately died of lockjaw. Thoreau was so distraught over the death of this brother that he wound up developing what we now know were psychosomatic symptoms which mirrored John’s so strongly that his family was convinced Thoreau must have cut himself as well. He eventually recovered, and went on to write A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, about a boat trip he took with John before his passing.

Thoreau’s younger sister Sophia (pronounced So-Fye-Uh) was an accomplished artist, and drew the cover art used for Walden, the book for which Thoreau is probably most well-known. Additionally, the family were abolitionists, and his older sister, Helen, founded the first woman’s abolitionist group.

Thoreau Farm is also still a fully functional farm, and volunteers from a non-profit organization called Gaining Ground farm the land and donate all the produce to local food pantries and meal programs. We took a few minutes to stroll around their crops, and it was really impressive. 

My favorite new plant discovery came in the form of Egyptian Walking Onions, which were growing in one of the small garden plots near the house. When I said I wondered how they tasted, Barbara gave us permission to pick a few, if we would try them and let her know what they tasted like. Can confirm they tasted like red onions, just in miniature form! The Egyptian Walking Onions are an heirloom plant, meaning the seeds were from Thoreau’s time period.

(The little purple buds in the phot above are actually the Egyptian Walking Onions! They’re very small, but very tasty!)

After a quick and delicious lunch at Nashoba Brook Bakery, we headed over to Orchard House, the family home of Louisa May Alcott. 

As you approach the house, the first thing that stands out is the lovely little garden out front, which is planted with the same plants and flowers that each of the four March sisters plants in her own little garden plot in Little Women. The plots are labeled accordingly with the sisters’ names - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. 

The first part of the tour takes place in the Concord School of Philosophy building, which Alcott’s father built in 1879. He was a Transcendentalist, who believed in education reformation. He believed in things like recess and field trips, and opposed corporal punishment, which was widely used at the time. 

In the Concord School of Philosophy, you’ll find benches that were created for the schoolhouse scenes in the 2019 Little Woman film, and donated to Orchard House after filming. You can sit on them as you view a short documentary about Orchard House, narrated by a very compelling “Louisa May Alcott”, played by Jan Turnquist. You can watch the documentary here, if you are a member of Thirteen PBS.

After viewing the documentary, it was time to tour the house. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed, so if you want to see the residence in all its glory and fine detail, you’ve got to come visit for yourself. 

We learned that the family bought Orchard House when Louisa was 25 years old. Prior to that, the family had lived in 29 houses over a span of 30 years, which sounds exhausting. After purchasing the house, which was only a few rooms, Alcott’s father had a nearby tenant house rolled in using logs, and attached it to the main house, making the whole residence much more spacious for his family. Louisa and her sisters helped with painting and setting up the house, although her sister Beth died before the family officially moved in. Beth’s melodium (a reed organ that resembles a small keyboard) and her portrait reside in one of the sitting rooms. 

Due to the success of Alcott’s writing, she was able to furnish the family home with a lot of nice things, many of which are still present in the house today. She was also able to finance her youngest sister May’s art lessons in Europe, which were necessary because in America, art was not seen as a viable career for a woman. May had a small studio room in Orchard House where she gave art lessons, and one of her students, Daniel Chester French, eventually went on to design the Lincoln Memorial.

May spent many years in Europe learning art from the masters, eventually marrying and having a daughter, whom she named after her sister Louisa. Unfortunately, May passed a way shortly after giving birth, and then Lulu was sent back to America to be raised by Louisa for about nine years. Lulu eventually moved to Switzerland, where she lived until her death in 1975 at the age of 95.

May’s artwork lives on, however, as it can be found in every room in the house. From sketches to paintings to ink drawings all over the windowsills and walls, May’s art gives visitors glimpses into the lives of the Alcotts and the art styles of the time period. Due to a current art exhibit with the Concord Library, more of May’s art was on display than usual, including a silk dress which she hand painted. In addition, the wedding dress of the eldest sister, Anna, was also on special display in Louisa’s bedroom. The silvery gray silk was certainly unlike any modern wedding dress you’d see today, but it had a very sophisticated look nonetheless.

Some other items of note in the house were Louisa’s boots and writing desk. The boots are kept in a costume trunk from when the sisters and their friends would put on plays. The very same boots are mentioned in Little Women as belonging to Jo, who wears them to play Roderigo, the same role Louisa wore the boots for in real life. Louisa’s writing desk, though small in size, was large in what it represented - her family’s faith in her writing ability. During her lifetime, it was unfitting for a woman to have her own writing desk, as writing wasn’t seen as an appropriate career for them, similar to art. Louisa’s father build the desk for her, showing how strongly he believed in her.

Something I already knew before visiting Orchard House, but that I still think is interesting and important to mention is that when Alcott was writing Little Women, she fully intended for Jo, the character modeled after herself, to remain a “spinster,” just as Alcott was. However, her publisher absolutely forbid that, so as a “compromise,” Alcott created a sort of unexpected character for Jo to marry, rather than the fan favorite pick, Laurie.

One thing I didn’t know before our tour was how involved the Concord authors were in each other’s lives. Nathanial Hawthorne lived next door to the Alcotts, and Thoreau and Emerson were contemporaries of Louisa’s father, Amos Bronson. They even joined the family for Anna’s wedding.

After our tour of Orchard House, Jess and I explored downtown Concord a bit, and visited a few antique stores, a chocolate shop, and a cheese shop. Then we went back to our hotel to unwind for a bit before heading to Copper House Tavern for dinner. We both had fancy burgers that were quite scrumptious, and very satisfying. Now we’re back at the hotel resting up for tomorrow. We’ve got a lot planned, and it looks like rain all day, but luckily most of our adventuring will take place in doors.

It’s December, his sophomore year of college and Bucky’s watching you again. From afar, always from afar. He’s scared if he goes near, something will give him away and you’ll laugh at him. He doesn’t remember when his fixation started but he’s certain it’ll pass. A load of girls on campus like him. Sometimes he thinks he likes some of them back. But not you. Bucky doesn’t like you. He’s beyond you. (Actually, you’re beyond him. He would never admit that.)  He watches you and notices how your fringe has grown the last few weeks and how a few strands are falling down your eyes. You brush them away and keep writing your essay. He decides it’d be better if he started writing his too. You’re a year younger but he knows you’ll probably get a higher score than him anyway. You’re good with words, he has noticed.

It’s March, your freshman year and you breathe out. You’re leaving the library, arms wrapped around books about Hamlet and Shakespeare, when you see him. Lately he seems to be everywhere you are. It’s getting annoying. You promise yourself you won’t stare at him again, but you cheat a few times. He’s wearing one of his overpriced shirts and he smiles at a sophomore girl. You know Bucky Barnes. You’d known him even if you didn’t want to. Because everybody does. Because that’s who he is. Everything you dislike about the world distilled into one label-whoring, conceited, 5′11″ tall boy. And everybody seems to be smitten with him.

He comes to you first.

“It’s destiny, Y/N,” he says, a smug look on his face, “third time I bump into you today.”

You tense. This is new. Usually, you don’t talk to each other if not for arguing in Romance Literature class. It’s one of the two classes you share.

“I must be very lucky.” Bucky chuckles and it’s somewhat engaging because he hasn’t given you a smile since the first day you met him.

“Admission office is on the left, doll”.

You had thought he was nice then. And beautiful. God, he was so beautiful. Please, he’s not. He’s an arrogant smartass. And now he’s standing here and for some seconds he laughs and you can see the dimples in his cheeks. You blink.

His light eyes divert to the books you’re holding.

He mocks and walks away.

It’s July, end of sophomore year and Bucky joins a summer book club. (He doesn’t tell anyone. He enjoys his facade.) Every morning he grabs an iced latte and a butter croissant and he goes to the meetings. He reads a lot. And he loves it. It helps him feel. It’s a getaway. Bucky always stands proud and tall, trying to hide how easily he can be torn.

Running one finger along the starched collar of his shirt, he reads quietly and he considers the ever-changing art of literature; words and metaphors that allow him to imagine entire worlds and fathom his own sensitivities. He almost feels vulnerable. He decides that reading together with another person is an intimate act and he’s thankful he doesn’t really have any interest in anyone in the club.

But then it’s Monday and his teenage dream walks in, hair falling gracefully your shoulders, Gone with The Wind in your left hand. And it could have been the sun gleaming through the windows, but Bucky swears his whole being flickers. In a way or another he always responds to your presence.

You sit two rows behind of him and when he involuntary turns to you, you look surprised and yet you smile.

He tries to avoid you and he’s good at it, until someone decides it’d be fun to present the next book in groups. You’re the only two without a friend there and you end up paired together.

“I don’t like this.” he says.

“Oh, I know.” you whisper.

You spend an evening in his dorm, discussing the author and the plot holes. At first, he talks a lot, trying to impress you. But then he lays on his back, listening to the summer rain outside and you reading out loud. Regardless of what you feel for each other, he thinks it’s a beautiful sound.

Next morning, he buys two butter croissants instead of one.

It’s October, your sophomore year and you’re not exactly friends. Or enemies. Bucky has stopped teasing you and you think it’s because of your days in the book club. Actually, it’s because he’s dating Natasha Romanoff now and he promised he’d be kinder.

You realize sooner or later and you say it’s obvious you don’t care. (Who is it obvious to?) The girl is pretty, clever and vibrant and she’s a good person. You like her. You just can’t figure out what she sees in Bucky.

It’s January, his junior year and he’s not doing well. He knows it’s his fault (he always loved half-heartedly) and that makes the hurting worse. It’s guilt driven. He tries to get Nat back but she’s not ready. And it’s awful because nobody warned him and he didn’t know; it’s hard to feel lovable after a break up. He desperately needs a distraction. He pushes himself past his breaking point. Carves his grades into the back of his neck. Devours facts and theorems. Almost joins the football team for extra credit. But to be honest he’s never been that much into sports. Debate team, it is.

That’s where he truly learns to despise you. Who do you think you are? The proud jaw, those smart eyes, your feet planted on the ground as if the world’s wisdom belongs to you. You’re at your best while he’s at his lowest point.

He watches you and then he watches himself.

“Your last argument was weak,” you say, raising your eyebrows, “you should concentrate more.”

Bucky bites his lip in frustration.

“You’re not the boss around here.” He says, crossing his arms in his chest, “You may think you are, but you’re not.”

(Technically she is, Bucky. She’s the captain of the team.)

“Don’t start again.” You sigh. “I just want us to win next week.”

He rolls his eyes at you. He would never admit it out loud but a part of him is enjoying this. Feuding with Y/N feels natural. It reminds him of who he is.  And he feeds on that.

He takes a step towards you.

“Of course, so you can take all the credit.”

You just stare at him. Sometimes you don’t understand what Bucky is trying to prove. That he’s better? Or that you’re worse? You hate it. How quickly he can make you lose your temper.

(How quickly he can exhilarate you.)

“If you don’t like the team,” you tilt your chin up to meet his gaze, “you’re free to leave.”

Bucky laughs. This is how you are. This is how you will always be. Both strong, you just, him lost.

“You need me to win, Y/N,” he sets his shoulders back and smirks, “I’m good at this.” He remains close to you and refuses to look away. He can see you parting your lips for a second or two.

(Did he just glance at your lips?)

“I know you are,” you breath out and Bucky is incredulous, “so start acting like it.”

It’s the first day of February, your sophomore year and you think you’re losing your sanity. Bucky invites everyone at his dorm to celebrate their victory at the National Debate Championship. And it’s strange because Bucky never really invites anyone he doesn’t like. If you didn’t know him, you would have bet that he’s been feeling lonely.

You don’t want to go at first. But you’re glad you do. Under the green lights he has installed and all the alcohol in his body, he looks different and it’s the first time you genuinely see him. A boy with silky black hair, blue eyes and skin that looks like it’d be cool to touch. There’s something attractive about him, in a rugged way, and you’re seeing it again after a long time.

Your allergies must have gotten in your head.

He doesn’t talk a lot that night. Not to you. Not to anyone. You deduce pretty early that Bucky just wanted company to drink. You wonder if he’s still messed up because of the break up.

Probably. Everyone on campus is talking about how Natasha was hanging out with that boy, Clint.

He tells you, you don’t have to, but you still stay to help him clean up.

“Why are you doing this, Y/N?” His voice is low.

You started taking a new antihistamine, maybe it’s the side effects.

“It’s called being nice,” you say firmly, “you should try it.”

Bucky makes a little humming sound and keeps collecting plastic cups. The room is quiet, but for the sound of trash bags and you count the seconds before you speak again.

“How are you?”

“I’m not that drunk, don’t worry.” He half-answers, half laughs but he pronounces the last word with enough irony.

“No, I meant,” you breath, “Is everything okay with you?”

“Seriously, you make no sense Y/N.” He’s careful not to look at you.

“I just wanted to say,” your voice sways for a second, you’re a novice in talking with him about anything different than books and words and that makes you weak and nervous, “You’ll be back with Natasha, I’m sure.”

Bucky’s face hardens around the edges, his eyes saying more about him than any words could. He comes close to you and it could have been the smell of alcohol but you feel like you want to throw up.

“You and I, we’re not friends.”

You don’t blink. You stare blankly at him, waiting for what follows. But he just leaves the room.

You promise you will never go to any of his parties again.

You looked around, and saw a guy whining to the other, who seemed done with him.

You hesitated but asked anyway what the problem was. The taller guy told you that they're whining because the store is out of dorayakis while the other looked gloomy and pouted.

You thought, 'why would someone whine about that...'

But nonetheless, you took the dorayaki and gave it to him. He looked at you and then the dorayaki, you told him that he can have it.

His eyes sparkled and he took it, thanking you before he went a way. He stopped in his tracks and asked for your name. "Y/n.... let's meet again <3" he told you before walking away with his friend.

You thought it was weird but pushed it aside, thinking that there's not a high chance of meeting him again. You only thought.

A few days later you met him. More specific, he found you again. He walked up to you with a silly smile while behind him was a trail of beaten up guys.

You wondered why but something about him told you he has more onto him than that goofiness.

Slowly you two got closer. One day you caught him beating up a guy who seemed to be older than him. When he looked at you, he only smiled back.

When you talked to him about that, he didn't give you an answer at first. He just looked down, his aura suddenly seemed to change. He told you about him, his gang, his brother and what happened to him.

He'd take you out at night . You would ride with him on his bike through the city. You would also eat sushi together.

In Late Summer, Anselm Kiefer Captures the Harvest

A show of the artist’s somewhat somber works coincides with a reconfigured festival of music in Salzburg.

While the Salzburg Festival has been forced to limit its offerings in a year marred by the global pandemic, art lovers in town are in for a treat.

In a season unlike any other, a smaller crowd is being accommodated at the events and performances, and the gallerist Thaddaeus Ropac hopes many of them will come to his show of new works by the celebrated German artist Anselm Kiefer.

The event, which runs through Oct. 3, features 18 monumental paintings and an installation, a sculptural piece encased in glass. All were produced in Barjac, a town in southern France where Mr. Kiefer lives part time.

Mr. Ropac, an opera fan and Austrian native, said the Salzburg gallery, which opened in 1983, was active all year round but even more so during the summer. “The town becomes a cultural hub, so bustling you can feel it in the air.”

This year, the pandemic forced the gallery to close on March 14; it reopened June 2. The public will be allowed inside the gallery’s building, the Villa Kast, for the show, which can also be viewed online.

In this series, Mr. Kiefer depicts the rural landscape in Barjac, through an immersive experience of its blades of grass and flowers, a close-up of nature. “The grass, the entire vegetation was so dried out that the light yellow stalks and the withered thistles made for a whole variety of ocher and yellow shades which delighted me; which, in their beauty on the verge of decay, reminded me of the grim reaper, Eros and Thanatos,” Mr. Kiefer wrote in a statement issued by the gallery.

The new works, in the artist’s signature style of densely painted surfaces bursting with color, texture and the occasional object, are dedicated to the medieval troubadour Walther von der Vogelweide, a familiar reference in Mr. Kiefer’s oeuvre since the 1970s. His poems are still taught to German-speaking schoolchildren.

“Kiefer is greatly influenced by literature,” Mr. Ropac said. “His work is often reduced to references to history, but the life that Kiefer depicts is so much richer than that.” Born in Germany in March 1945, two months before Germany’s surrender to Allied forces, Mr. Kiefer has a powerful voice that often echoes the burden of his generation as it confronts modern German history.

Though these works are not as melancholy as his other rural landscapes — like his sunflower series from the 1990s — a sense of decline emanates from his flowering meadows, particularly where a (real) trenchant sickle juts out of the canvas.

“Kiefer has returned to the landscape before harvest,” Mr. Ropac said. “The sickle evokes the harvest, but also death, labor or abundance, all of which could be viewed as political references.”

“This is a lyrical series in a German ‘romantic’ genre,” he said. “It is a very beautiful series, but in a deeper, more sophisticated sense of beauty.”

The exhibition is typical of Mr. Ropac’s summer activities. Based in Paris, he spends every August in Salzburg, organizing events at the gallery and working with the festival. He has served on the board of the Friends of the Salzburg Festival, the event’s main sponsor, and has lent or donated art for shows produced in tandem with festival organizers.

“Last year, we installed a Joseph Beuys piece at the Festspielhaus, the festival’s main venue,” he said. “Some years ago, we worked with Robert Longo when he was invited to design stage sets for Mozart’s ‘Lucio Silla.’”

This year, Mr. Ropac has pledged to donate 5,000 euros (about $5,880) each to 20 Salzburg-based artists who have experienced financial hardship because of the pandemic.

“We are launching a broad program of solidarity to benefit young artists at our Pantin gallery in the fall,” Mr. Ropac said, referring to his space in a suburb of Paris. “On a smaller scale here, we are offering financial support to Salzburg artists.”

So like with all this isolation and panic bout this dang virus ruining lives... l wrote and made my own legacy/challenge!

MY 10 GEN LEGACY CHALLENGE Made this up when l couldn't sleep and l was I couldn't pick what type of one l wanted to do so I created my own. This one isn't supposed to be rushed through, but more of a go with your own pace/gameplay to make this game more interesting.

Gen 1 - White This is the start. The start of something new. All different roads of paths laid out before you, yet your paranoid and worried about the future 'what ifs'. This Gen will be about self discovery of what they want to do and want so following 2 out of 3 whims is required. and atleast 2 degrees in University from either universities. Traits required :- Paranoid, Non-commitial and Self-Absorbed Aspiration:- Diccover University Academic Aspiration Career:- Professor

Gen 2 - Grey You've settled down from gen 1, you have a kid/heir and now the spotlights on them. As they grow your child will be an only child (although for story purposes you can have separated parents who  take say siblings away or if you want to add drama miscarriages may be included) This child of yours craves for stardom. The spotlight will be there's but they have to work either hard for it or schmooze themselves up to the big leagues. And will automatically generate the last trait of their parents. Max out Acting skill and get a Gold degree in Drama Traits:- Self-Absorbed,Outgoing and Ambitious Aspiration:- Master Actress/Actor Career:- Acting

Gen 3 -Black Although you've lived a life of luxury from your parent/s being so rick from their work, they never really had the time to spend any quality time with your and/or your siblings. So luckily your siblings and you are close and you got each other when calamity happens and  your parent/s gotta work or even bankrupt and may occasionally break the law to support your family. Each sibling will have one trait the same and must be at least 75 % green (Good friends or Best friends) and max the parenting skill. Gen 4- Pink Life's been tough but you've always been a go with the flow sort of person. Despite your close family ties from Gen 3 into Gen 4 you seem to in ways distance yourself into the arts. Musically or by painting or even drawing it just gives that warm tickle of feeling good about expressing yourself. You even meet the love of your life at an art museum and you both bond over talking about different art pieces, even a fun little nude model painting to be that moe extra thrilling! Must reach max skills in painting,writing,any music instrument and singing. Gen 5- Red After having a decent life of listening to the sounds of music flowing through your ears and the scratching sounds of pen on paper and the smell of paint have decided as soon as you step outside o take a deep breath and begin to dabble in the wonderful smell of dusty novels about supernatural lore. Absolutely fascinated by it you make it your life's aspiration to find them no matter how long the road may be but you figure out the first spot to check out that's known to be kooky - Forgotten Hollows and a river in Glimmerbrook. Must marry or birth a heir with a vampire, spellcaster. Max out the vampire lore or spellcaster lore skills as well as mixology. If you become a spellcaster you must make a small tiny retail potion elixer shop. For vampires you must turn at least 5 sims and create a vampire court in your household and give your next gen eventually the drink that makes them back into a human when they become a YA to give them a choice of whether they still want to be a vamp or human.Max Research and Debate, Writing and Logic skills. Attend university in Language and Literature. Traits:- Bookworm, Geek and Self- Assured Aspiration:- Vampire or Spellcaster routes. Career:- Sell potions or become a Moonlight Bartender

Gen 6 - Purple Whether your human , spellcaster or even a vampire, you seem to other sims have that ability to allure others in either friendly or romantically with almost no difficulty. So you use this as an advantage on finding the one or to break as many hearts as possible. You will need to max our the charisma skill and must have a partner that has the unflirty trait. And as an income have decided to either create romance advice or non fictions and to have 10 ex's and 10 good to best friends. Traits:- Romantic, Cheerful and Perfectionist Aspiration:- Romantic/Soulmate or Friend of the world Career:- Sell flirty cookies and red velvet cupcakes as  baker/retail business and must be excellent/outstanding quality.

Gen 7- Orange Your parent is a great baker but a terrible cook which makes you want to be a great chef. Be a master or flavor. Even open a restaurant. To share great food or become a critic. The choices are yours. Attend Culinary Arts. Must maxout  both mixology and cooking skills as well as discover all of the secret recipes and different foods (ramen, curry etc from different packs) Traits:- Foodie, Good and Neat. Aspiration:- Master Chef

Gen 8 - Blue With all that delicious food in your home you can't help but put on a few kilos. So to fix that you learn about wellness as well as go to gym at first only to become of sorts a gym junkie and love sports! You also inherit the Neat trait from your parent. And in ways makes you want to probably later in life become a surgeon as the human body fascinates you so! Max out Fitness and Wellness skills. Go to University to learn about Biology. Traits:- Active, Bro and Neat Aspiration:- Body Builder Career:- Doctor, Athletics or Police

Gen 9-Yellow Now that you got physical in the last gen, its time to do the time warp again! You've grown up with healthy meals that have fueled you into the world of science and robotics! Your favorite thing to do is play chess or read a logic book. Since you have a high love of circuits, during your university years you decide to make a robotic 'sim' that will pleasure your every need -- you just need to remember not to fall in love and avoid water! Soon though you grow tired of your nuts and bolts  robot looking for human socialization and contact where you after majoring in robotics major for a second degree in Physics and then a 3rd degree of Psychology. Must max out all the requited skills for all 3 degrees. (Logic, Robotics, Rocket Science etc) Traits:- Genius, Insane/Erratic and Squeamish Aspiration:- Strangerville Mystery Career:- Scientist, Military or Space Explorer

Gen 10 - Green Its been a wild ride of a generation in your family, so its time to go with the flow of life or waves. You can either live by the beach in Sulani or Briddleton Bay or live in wooded areas such as Glimmerbrook, Windernberg or Granite Falls (You just have to purchase a blank lot  and then go on vacation and either live in a rental or live in the Deep Woods). Who knows what other surprises you'll find collecting seashells or plants/herbs and whose to say its a definite end of the road for future generations but for you its time. Max out 6 skills (Gardening/Florist, Both Cooking Skills, Fishing, Handiness and Painting) Collect all shells and plants/herbs and make remedies. Make furniture from from the work bench. Make simoleons by painting scenery. Get to know a mermaid, dolphin or ranger/bear/hermit. Traits:- Hotheaded, Loves The Outdoors and Clumsy Aspiration:- Botanist, Outdoor Enthusiast or Beach Life. Career:- Freelancer (Painter), Selling collectibles/remedies, Conservationist Careers (Marine or Environmental Branches.), Gardening/Florist or even Odd Jobs.

Faraway Wanderers Reading Blog: Chapters 01-05

First post of my attempt at the May 2020 Asian Readathon with Faraway Wanderers!

Just some highlights here, the rest is on my wordpress blog because my ramblings got long.

Chapter 1: Tian Chuang

The first sentences use a common motif in Chinese literature and art to set the scene: our story begins at the end of winter, bridging into spring – the time when plum blossoms are seen blooming in the snow. Plum blossoms have come to symbolize resilience and perseverance as one of three plants that still flourish in the dead of winter.

Despite the emperor’s reluctance to let the last of his old friends go, he allows Zhou Zishu to accept the last nail that will seal his fate. It really is a gory self-inflicted punishment, I mean, it’s best not to think too hard on the fact that the main character is running around with seven nails punctured into his chest. Yeah. Let’s just try to ignore that going forward (also, don’t ask how, suspension of disbelief activated haha).

When I read this chapter a few months ago, I didn’t pay the setting much mind, but looking back on it those plum blossoms really set the scene – marking both a beginning and an end, enduring hardship and adversity to blossom.

Chapter 2: Chance Encounter

A short explanation is in order. Most wuxia stories are more grounded in realism and centered around martial arts, but the whole internal force, meridians, and acupuncture points are also an integral part of many wuxia stories. The internal force distinguishes the average fighter from a skilled martial artist – by disrupting that flow of internal energy, a person can be paralyzed or crippled. That’s more or less how the wuxia genre has been since it was popularized by Jin Yong’s works.

After some exposition on how Zhou Zishu walked out of there alive when most figuratively drop dead on the spot, we are brought along his new journey outside the spying life to…creep around people’s properties, drink wine, and bask in his newfound freedom. He also does a really bad impression of a beggar, despite the looks, because he’s not actually looking for handouts therefore puzzling all the people on the street except for a certain man who correctly guesses that Zhou Zishu is merely sunbathing.

An introspective piece reveals a bit more about our MC: ambitious and arrogant in his youth, but at the end of all his efforts there really isn’t much to show for it. He pretty much gave up his youth in service to his country, and “…anything he ever owned had to become compensation for the acts he committed”. The overarching theme according to reviews is atonement for past deeds, and two chapters into the story there have already been two references to this sort of karmic retribution (the emperor being all alone after ascending to the throne being the other).

Chapter 3: Abandoned Shrine

In which we find out that Zhou Zishu is a bit of a child inside. More accurately, he’s a dying man with no fucks left to give, who wants to live out his final days enjoying life as he never had a chance to before. He’s a bit aimless, though, and flippant about death, even his own, which is only appropriate given his former occupation. Despite his childish way of provoking the fisherman for his entertainment and enjoying his newfound ability to curse whenever he wants to, he is naturally observant, picking up on the fact that the fisherman is likely hiding some shady business, otherwise he wouldn’t be so rude and scare off customers.

As is typical of these abandoned shrine sideplots, the three people are running from their pursuers – who are after the kid in the group, a kid who makes the impulsive decision to leap into battle like a suicidal lemming. Ah, youth.

Zhou Zishu thinks it a coincidence that he keeps running into the same people today, as this marks the third time he’s seeing the girl in purple who threatened to poison a guy who for all she knew was just a random beggar. Personally, I’d been kind of suspicious at this point but that’s just me.

Chapter 4: The Chivalrous

We really need to hit the names before this gets more confusing, but the girl in purple. Is she following an archetype so far? Yes, but I do love her flippant attitude and she can hold her own in a fight. Always stan kickass self-confident girls. She is definitely a prime example of ‘cool but maybe get far away before you get murdered on a whim’ kind of character though.

Anyways, Zhou Zishu was not looking for the start of an adventure, nor a babysitting gig, but it has come calling him in the form of a dying man’s plea to deliver the kid he’s escorting. And this is where it gets interesting. The fisherman tries to guilt trip him by pulling the ‘it’s for your descendants and reincarnation’ card.

I appreciate when characters have a belief system that matches the time period. It’s easy to force characters to adopt modern mindsets, but realistically most people raised and living in X culture for their whole life would share a similar set of values and beliefs. Even if the writer or reader doesn’t believe in reincarnation, the characters definitely would.

So, Zhou Zishu accepts the fisherman’s request and the man dies, at peace (and cursing him if he fails in his task lol). But then the girl in purple asks for his name and this awesome spymaster, master of disguise…gives her the name Zhou. Zhou Xu. Zhou Xu??? Hello, that’s 1) your real last name and 2) ‘xu’ is kinda similar to ‘shu’ (I think – I’m awful at Mandarin pronunciations so I could be misinterpreting). Anyway, what was he thinking?? I know that his real name was kept a secret all these years, but still. The girl already said her master knew he was suspicious.

Chapter 5: The Evils

Just a friendly reminder that Zhou Zishu is basically wandering around the world with a skintight mask on and nails embedded in his chest which cause him excruciating pain at night. Last chapter, we were also reminded that he basically has no internal energy left, which surprised Gu Xiang when he grabbed her wrist. In this chapter, we learn that he’s fading fast due to the nails acting up.

Also, slight spoiler: her master is the main love interest of the story, so the bit about him visiting an old lover to have a one night fling is actually kind of refreshing. A lot of stories make its main characters inexperienced in terms of romance and/or sex before getting together in the story, which is fine, except it’s so popular that it kind of sends an ick message. So, kudos.

In conclusion:

Zhou Zishu is not my favorite protagonist ever, but he doesn’t annoy me, and I like the theme of redemption for past deeds and his drive to leave his old life behind and atone for those sins to the point of severe personal harm. It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds. And hopefully the next 5 chapters will have the main love interest in them lol.

Oh well, hey there!

As you might see, there’s nothing on here up till now ‘cuz I just decided to create a tumblr to blog about my life as a music and future English major, share experiences and find new friends. So here is a  little introduction so that you know with whom you’re dealing with :)

First of all, what are you gonna see on here? Probably some reblogs about my favourite aesthetics and art pieces, posts about music and book recommendations and random annotations about my thoughts on life.

To be completely honest with you, it has been quite difficult for me to find the right platform to express myself. Twitter has a limited variety of blogging options (well, basically you’re just tweeting random thoughts which sometimes turn into a litte...tsunami of complaints nobody wants to listen to) and Instagram is just about posting pretty pictures which i’m not exactly the best at. YouTube is something I aspire to do one day but...right now I’m not really ready for that.

So, here I am on Tumblr, a platform I used to be on when I was in my early teens and firstly discovered the unlimited options and deep holes of the digital world we call internet. Yet, I’ve been more of a passive user back then lol.

Before I go out into the wild to explore some fancy blogs on here (some recommendations? I bet nobody is ever reading this anyway haha), here are some facts about the confusing and chaotic mind which is writing this text right now.

1. I’m majoring in music and have the chance to get a really good music education here in my Native country, Germany. I’m a classical bassist, yet I don’t study to be a professional musician but to be a High School teacher (which is why I’m gonna start my second major - English -  this coming semester). Tbh I’m not really sure whether I want to be a teacher but that’s another story ;)

2. I love everything about the romantic and impressionistic era. From their dressing style to literature to art and music. And sometimes, I can be a complete mess about that.

3. I woud like to paint, read, compose and practice everyday 24/7 but...social life and responsibilities are coming in the way *awkwardly laughing* tbh many people do not understand why I’m prioritizing being productive and working on myself and my dreams over socializing and that is something I have many problems with. Of course, I want to make friends but...does that mean I have to go to a social gathering every second day and speak with the same people over and over again even though we don’t have anything in common??

4. I’m an INFJ and ....I think, I don’t have to add anything to that.

5. I love Joe Hisaishi’s music and I want to be able to compose like him in the future. (realistic? haha ha ha, maybe not?)

6. I love reading. I’ve been an avid reader since my early childhood and these days I especially like to read classics and ...how do you call it, bestsellers? idk but my favourite is Hermann Hesse, a German author who moved me to tears many times since I always feel like he is looking directly into my soul.

7. I’m moved to tears very easily. A beautiful sentence with a distinct use of grammar? I cry. A melancholic melody which is talking about the unspoken feelings of ife? I cry. A painting which is so genius in colours and composition? I cry. Yet, in general I find it quite difficult to express my feelings towards others in real life and sometimes, I really feel like a numb piece of irrelevant existence in a human body. What a paradox, isn’t it?

8. I love languages. If my life wouldn’t be full of practicing (sake of a music student), I would learn French, Russian, Swedish, Dutch, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic and so on. I cannot take that every language has its own beauty and that I’m not able to endorse my passion for them.

9. I’ve become a plant lover over the last few weeks. Since I’m living alone as a single pringle in a city far away from my family and my closest friends, I had to make some new friends. And plants are great. Nobody can convince me otherwise.

10. hmm my tea is almost empty so, that’s the last one ;) I’m vegan and I try to be as good as possible to our environment. Whether I try to live in a sustainable way or go to fridays for future-demonstrations, I’m there for it.

MONSTA X

tries to be an emo kid but really isn’t. has a lot of money but saves it all for ‘charity’ or ‘college’. aces school but always sleeps in class. mcdonalds all the way. laying in the grass on a sunny day. has some acne but is beautiful anyway. your average alternative music taste. down to earth, grows vegetables for their families. upside down herbs hanging from the kitchen window. is super athletic and most likely plays basketball. really good hearing but can’t see for shit. round glasses that are mismatched. 

EXO

singing in the shower, loudly, along with the music on your ipod. brushing your teeth with kids crest toothpaste. lives in jumpsuits and denim jackets. no one knows but they hate the dark. horror movies ftw. an entire shelf in their bedroom is dedicated to plushies. “yes i have to stand on this chair to take a picture of my food”. family camping trips every summer. plays the clarinet and looks forward to band camp. blasts lofi chill hop music whenever they’re in need of inspiration. pretty hands, no piercings. lives for doing anything with other people, will never hesitate to help out someone in need. 

SHINEE 

super nostalgic, keeps a memory box and still talks to childhood friends. That One Mom Friend. wants to major in psychology. keeps a dream journal and has a tumblr dedicated to psychic research. talks to their dog more than people. huge fluffy white comforter. listens to country music. likes the moments when it’s raining but the sun is out, and most wait for a rainbow but it never appears. doodles on your arms in crayola markers. cheetah print parkas are the way to go in winter. could be in a roller derby or bowling league. 

GOT7 

opening a window during a thunderstorm and just listening. forgetting to write in their diary. pressed wildflowers that are ugly to some but pretty to them. black fountain pens and nothing else. brings a smoothie to class every morning but never forgets fries at lunch. indie music is their jam. covers up the dark circles under their eyes with concealer, since they stay up until 3am. sleeping in super late on weekends and finally feeling refreshed. star of the soccer team and the lead role in the school musical. clumsy but charming. love at first sight. 

NCT 

making pinterest foodie recipes. prints out wikihow pages and keeps them in a notebook with them at all times. could read steven king at night without getting scared. screeches at jump scares but cradles spiders. is the world flat? probably does ballet or works out 24/7. keeps potted plants on their windowsill but can’t figure out why they keep dying. never turns the fan on while showering and then draws figures on the glass. drake is my spirit animal. phone is always at 80% but they never bring a charger anywhere. makes you go on the biggest ride at amusement parks or the biggest slide at waterparks. risk-takers and daredevils. 

BIGBANG

TWICE
