The Best News of Last Week - February 13, 2023
Hello there! Welcome to another edition of ‘Feel Good Newsletter’. I'm so glad you're here. Every week, I scour the web for the most uplifting and heartwarming stories to bring you a little bit of joy and inspiration. So, sit back, relax, and let's dive in!
1. Minnesota House passes "universal" school meals, providing free breakfast, lunch to students
Tumblr media
The Minnesota House of Representatives is considering a bill that would provide universal school meals to all students in the state, regardless of their families' ability to pay. The goal of the bill is to ensure that all students have access to nutritious meals and are better equipped to learn in the classroom.
If the bill is approved, Minnesota would become the second state in the country, after California, to offer universal school meals. The bill has the support of education and anti-hunger advocates, who argue that it would help to address food insecurity and improve student health and academic performance.
2. Ukraine succeeds in bringing back 128 children forcibly removed to Russia
Tumblr media
Ukraine has succeeded in bringing back 128 children forcibly taken by the invaders to Russia.
Source: Yuliia Usenko, Head of the Department for the Protection of the Interests of Children and Combating Violence of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, quoted by Ukrinform
Quote: "We have managed to bring 128 children back to Ukraine. More than 50 of them, together with their parents or guardians, are currently in EU countries.
3. Putting solar panels in grazing fields is good for sheep
Tumblr media
A study found that installing solar panels in grazing fields is beneficial for sheep. The study was conducted in the UK and found that sheep were more likely to spend time in areas with solar panels than in areas without. This is because the panels provide shade and shelter from the sun, wind, and rain.
The researchers believe that this could help to improve the welfare of sheep, as they are more likely to seek out shade in hot weather, which can reduce the risk of heat stress. The study also found that the solar panels had little impact on the growth and health of the grass, which is important for the sheep's diet.
4. Dad takes toddler son for a manicure after teacher says it's 'only for girls'
Tumblr media
The father and son were at a "Daddy and Me" event, where fathers were encouraged to spend time with their children doing various activities. The father chose to take his son to get a manicure, but was told by the teacher in charge of the activity that it was only for girls. The father was reportedly surprised and upset by the teacher's statement, as he felt that it was important for his son to be able to express himself however he wants, without gender stereotypes getting in the way.
The article notes that the incident highlights the ongoing issue of gender stereotypes and the importance of promoting gender equality and inclusivity, especially in children's activities.
4. More than half of new U.S. electric-generating capacity in 2023 will be solar, and only 14% will be using fossil fuels
Tumblr media
Information Administration (EIA), energy production in the country increased for the fourth consecutive week. The EIA data showed that the output of oil, natural gas, and coal rose by 1.6%, 2.2%, and 3.2% respectively. The increase in energy production is due to a combination of factors, including improved drilling techniques, favorable weather conditions, and rising global demand for energy.
5. Deforestation in Brazil falls by 60% in first month under Lula
Tumblr media
Deforestation in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil fell for the first time this year, according to a report by Reuters. The decrease is attributed to increased enforcement of environmental regulations and increased monitoring of illegal logging activities. The Brazilian government has implemented several measures to reduce deforestation and preserve the Amazon rainforest, which is a critical component of the global ecosystem.
6. Cat returned to NJ shelter for being 'too affectionate' now happy in his new home
Tumblr media
A cat named Bruno surrendered to a shelter in New Jersey and was eventually adopted by a new family. Bruno, who was described as a friendly and affectionate cat, is now happily settling into his new home. The story of Bruno's adoption serves as a reminder of the importance of animal shelters and the work they do to find loving homes for abandoned pets.
7. A doggy day care was on fire. Neighbors helped save all 115 dogs inside.
Tumblr media
A fire broke out at a doggy daycare and resort in Seattle, causing significant damage to the building. No dogs or employees were injured in the fire, but several dogs had to be temporarily relocated to other facilities. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the resort is working to make repairs and get back to serving the community's four-legged friends as soon as possible.

WAITER WAITER 🥘🎶♟️ more lore please<3
thanks bestie >:3c
🥘 (Stew) - Do they have any favourite foods or comfort foods? What are their eating habits like? If absorbed by the Cook ability, what healing item would they summon?
- lula’s a big fan of soups and stews!! she loves making them herself with veggies she grows in her garden, probably tastes much better with those than with store bought ingredients. as for luca, he’s a big fan of spicy foods [and has a higher spice tolerance than lula], so he would enjoy curry, and be the kind of mf to put an absurd amount of salsa on his tacos LMAO but as for comfort foods, they both have a big sweet tooth so just about any dessert will satisfy them.
- lula is very good about eating three meals a day, while luca tends to forget about needing to eat 😭 she gets on his case about it often, and makes sure he eats something at a reasonable time. sometimes they cook together though! a fun activity AND luca remembers to eat…
- as for the cook ability, luca would drop an energy drink or a pepper of some kind, while lula would drop a tomato/maxim tomato orrr strawberries? [all things she grows in her garden]
🎶 (Music Notes) - Do they play any instruments? What kind of leitmotif and/or battle theme would they have? Are there any songs you associate with them?
- neither of them know how to play an instrument! though maybe lula would take an interest in piano, and luca with a synthesizer…
- OHHHH I think it would be fun if they shared a leitmotif, but the instrumentation differed between them. like if lula’s version had woodwinds/strings or just a more orchestral style, and luca’s version had more electronic sounds, or was in a chiptune style. if I had any proper knowledge in music theory I would’ve definitely tried to compose something for them by now [we are ignoring the fact that I played an instrument for 11 years-]
- as for a battle theme for them, luca on his own might have something like [Bombs for Throwing at You] from portal 2 or [System Corruption] from portal stories: mel? it would sound very reminiscent of either game… as for lula, something like [Dialga’s Fight to the Finish!] from pmd time/darkness/sky or maybe [Midna’s Lament] from loz twilight princess..? for a battle theme of the two of them together, [Try, Try Again] from m&l dream team fits I think… very upbeat and could highlight the two of them working together in a battle :]c
- for songs I associate with them, [Christmas Island] by LAKE and [By Your Side.] from the omori ost makes me think of them. ANNNND [A Gash on the Cheek] by Superet!! I am very normal about that song [lying]
♟️ (Pawn) - Does your OC get possessed easily, or do they have the willpower to fight back against any possible attempts? Have they been possessed before?
- both of them would be susceptible to possession, ESPECIALLY when caught in a bad mood. in their “canon” lore, neither of them have been possessed, though I’ve been thinking about the concept of one of them getting possessed by dark matter, and the other being forced to fight them >:3c bonus points if the possessed twin is winning the fight and almost deals a finishing blow, but said twin manages to muster enough willpower to stop themselves from doing so <3 I love angst

Alina and friends 2 Chapter:Meeting with the characters.
The girls walked along the path, following Daisy, who was flying. Later, they begin to feel tired.
Sanya:Girls, let's rest and look for something to eat. Otherwise we'll be hunting someone.
Alina:Fine. (I saw a tree) Oh! We can take a break there.
Daisy:Come on.
Alina, Lula and Sanya crouched under a tree until Daisy saw something and flew up.
Alina:I haven't been to other places for a long time. Meaning not the city of Novorossiysk.
Lula: Yes.
Sanya:Have you ever dreamed of going somewhere?
Alina:(She shook her head) No, but it would be interesting. I would like to visit Japan, for example.
Sanya:Me too, and in Greece at least.
Lula:Well, to be honest, I don't care what happens to Daisy.
Daisy:Girls!
Alina, Lula and Sanya noticed her on the swing, which she swings a lot.
Alina, Lula and Sanya: Wow!
Daisy:There's even a swing here. It's like someone was before us.
For Alina, these swings were very familiar.
Alina:It's a swing kikorikis.
Lula and Sanya:What? (Daisy stopped rocking)
Daisy:So this is their swing? (Examined) Then where are they?
Alina:They're not far away, I can smell it. (To Sanya) Sanya, you haven't heard of round creatures.
Sanya:Well yeah (Realized) So are we in Omsk?
Alina:So and kikoriki here. Go ahead!
The girls ran to the side where they saw the city with themselves kikoriki by making me surprise you.
Alina:It's true... We were all right.
Lula:Definitely them.
Sanya:But what kind of interesting city is this?
Alina:This is Shararam. The characters of the animated series live there kikoriki.
Sanya:They'll probably help us.
Alina:Otherwise, go ahead!
The girls ran into the city. They were surprised to see the building nearby.
Alina:Hold me, I'll shout right now... (Joyfully) hello everyone!
From the screams, all the residents heard her and looked at the heroes.
Man No. 1:Who are they?
Man No. 2:They don't look like us at all.
Woman No. 1:They're not even round.
Alina:I'm sorry, we're not locals here. I also know about you. (The Kikoriki got scared)
Woman №2:Do you know about us?
Umnikus:Calm down! (He went up to Alina) I don't think she's a spy. Maybe she was watching about us.
Alina:It's true.
There were 9 familiar Kikoriki in the crowd. Such as the blue rabbit Krash, raspberry hedgehog Chiko, lilac ram Wally, pig Rosa, orange bear Barry, yellow elk Bokko, blue grow Carlin, purple owl Olga and pigvin Pin.
Krash:Excuse me, can we please go through (he stopped with the others).
Carlin:Here.
Rosa:I've never seen anything like it.
Chiko:What if it's from other localities?
Krash:Let's ask.
Alina:Wow, so you've been living after 2009 for a long time? Great.
Umnikus: (Nodded) Yes.
Krash:Excuse please. (Alina and Umnikus noticed him) Can I ask you a question?
Alina:Of course, Krash (The main Kikoriki were surprised).
Krash:Do you know my name? (Alina nodded) Fine... where are you from?
Alina:I am Alina from Novorossiysk. And these are my friends from there too. Their names are Lula, Daisy and Sanya. I also know your friends. (The rest of the Kikoriki came up)
Wally:I haven't heard of it at all.
Umnikus:If so? Welcome to Shararam.
The residents were shouting joyfully, but they heard someone rumbling.
Daisy:I'm sorry, I have it.
Olga:So you're both hungry. Then come to my place, I'm having a tea party with friends.
The heroes were sitting at a table near Olga's house while she brought treats.
Carlin:And you haven't eaten for a long time?
Alina:To be honest, we used to eat. And now we haven't eaten for 3 days.
Olga:(She put the dish on the table) Here, enjoy your meal.
Daisy: (Tries the berry pie) Mmm, it's delicious.
Lula:You'd better chew, not talk.
When they had eaten everything, Olga took the dishes and carried them.
Heroes except Olga:Thank you.
Olga:To your health (She leaves).
Krash:And why aren't you in Novorossiysk?
Alina:We have a very important matter. We are looking for friends.
Bokko:And what's important about that?
Sanya:In Novorossiysk, black animals lurked with the leader of the Honeyeater. (The Kikoriki were surprised)
Carlin:Black beasts?
Alina:Yes, and took everything from innocent people.
Rosa:What a awful.
Krash:It's bad. We have to deal with this.
Alina:Seeing your city, we thought that you would all help us.
Chiko:It's great, but I don't think it's enough.
Bokko:So I think it's worth finding the others.
Alina:Great. Then-
Male security guard:Alarm!
When the heroes heard this, they quickly ran to the people.
Umnikus:What happened?
Male security guard:Tomorrow the Honey Badger comes to us with an army and told us to give everything away. (Everyone was scared)
Chief:We have to fight him.
Umnikus:No, if we fight, Shararam will suffer destruction.
Alina, seeing this, wants to help and she came up with it.
Alina:Do you have a cave?
Umnikus:Well yeah.
Alina:Then I need paper and pencil. (The child gives her paper and a pencil, and she draws a drawing of an image of a cave and a round stone on it) We'll gather around the gold and put it in the cave. And when the Honey Badger with the army goes up there, we'll catch it and cover it. And then we'll wait for them to weaken.
Bokko:Phenomenal.
Pin: Compression.
Umnikus:Well, then go ahead.
All the residents of the city, including the heroes, began to collect everything they have. At the moment Pin with a sigh, he threw the drawing into a pile of things. People started carrying everything in their arms while Carlin was in charge.
Carlin:One, two, one, two.
Later, the residents of Shararam put down the cave and waved to the heroes who were on top of the cliff and left In the shelter. When night fell, everyone went to bed, and Daisy lay down on a rock.
Lula:Aren't you going to fall?
Daisy:Yeah, no.
Alina:Good night, everyone.
Heroes of the coma Alina:Good night.
Alina looked at the sky thinking about the future.
Alina:(In thought) * I wonder which ones we'll meet again. I didn't even think about the battle. If I had at least six abilities, I could protect my friends and attack my enemies.*
When she fell asleep, a star fell from the sky. Hinting, she made a wish. The next morning, the heroes were still asleep. While in the distance from the cave, black beasts were walking and stopped when they saw the sign.
Honey Badger:Oh, that's where we need to go.
While the troops were walking towards the cave, Daisy jumped up a little and fell, causing everyone to wake up.
Barry:The animals seemed to be lurking around us.
Alina:(She looked at the back) Not in vain. They won't be feasting for long.
When the black beasts ascended, the heroes began to push the stone. But the stone is not rolling.
Alina:What the?
Daisy:It can't be.
Krash:Everything is gone!
But fortunately, there was a bug under the stone, which pushed the stone from behind the heroes. But realizing this, he ran to the other side where the heroes were and he pushed. A stone fell on the passage, making the heroes smile.
Heroes:Hurray!
Krash:We did it!
Alina:It remains to wait and that's it, goodbye evil.
Or does it seem so? The thing is, there was another bug underneath the rock and he pushed it. From this, the troops of the beasts ran away with their belongings, and the heroes looked at it in shock.
Alina:Here's an ambush...
Later, the stone began to fall and destroy buildings. The characters are still looking at it with fear. When the stone fell on the shelter, it broke and the shelter was intact. When the residents came out of it, they were shocked to see the destroyed buildings.
Chief:I didn't understand, is this the plan?
Later, they saw the heroes who stood in front of them.
Man №2:(Displeased) We need to kick them out!
*The screen turned black*
Later, the sky appeared, which turned out to be a reflection from the river and the heroes were sitting on the shore.
Daisy:Well, don't worry, maybe it shouldn't have. No one knows the reason.
Bokko:I think she's right. Although we don't know what made them so angry.
Krash:Maybe they got spoiled because of the gold?
Lula:Maybe, as they say, gold spoils people.
Alina:(She stood up and looked displeased) So guys, if it's my fault here, then I have to fix everything. Goodbye, my friends.
Sanya:How can we let you go alone? You don't know what's waiting there.
Alina:You go to the residents and explain everything. There is no bear to defeat except me. (He leaves)
Carlin:In vain, it will be lost anyway. We're getting ready quickly.
The heroes quickly ran and unnoticed to the houses so that they would not be noticed. When they arrived, they were packing up. When they had collected everything, they left Shararam and started looking for Alina.
In Novorossiysk.
The redhead was sitting by the window and washing with her paw. She missed her beloved mistress. But suddenly she saw Alina's friends and realized that they were going to look for Alina. She opened the window and looked down in fear. But there was nowhere to go and she went down the window sills. When she got down to the ground, she slipped her head into Christina's backpack unnoticed.
Katya:Are you sure they won't notice?
Christina:I do not know, but we have to find Alina.
Julia:Well, what if we go home, what will the parents say?
Kristina:I don't know, okay, let's go (He leaves with Julia and Katya).
2 weeks later.
The heroes were still walking in the forest and decided to stop.
Carlin:Let's all stop.
Heroes other than Carlin:Come on.
Sanya:How much strength do we need?
Suddenly they heard the sound of a branch breaking and looked around. When they turned around, they were scared to see the gypsies.
Roma:Hey people, would you like to buy something?
The heroes saw some kind of pink creature in a bag and decided to buy it.
Krash:We need this. (Points to the creature)
Roma:Well, an animal, so an animal. (To the gypsies) Hey, everyone line up.
While the music was playing, the gypsies circled around the heroes and left. There is a creature in the bag, but the things were stolen.
Barry:(Displeased) Here are the infections.
The heroes noticed that the creature hugged them.
Krash:It seems she wants to be with us.
Meanwhile, with Alina.
Alina was on top of a fir tree and looked all around.
Alina:You'll know how to treat all people badly. You will find out our revenge.
Meanwhile, with the others.
The heroes are still with a new friend.
Sanya: Yes, but we will definitely find her and everything will be fine.
The heroes approached the fir tree while Alina was climbing down from the fir tree. The heroes had just stopped.
Daisy:Phew, they still haven't found her (I heard the breaking of a branch and a familiar scream).
Lula:Don't you think-
Suddenly Alina fell on Lula, Daisy and Sanya and they started fighting with their eyes closed. While the others looked on in fright.
Alina:Right now, right now... I will deal with you and find out my friendly revenge! (Hit Lula, Daisy and Sanya causing them to fall and I looked at it with a gasp) Oh no I'm not-
Daisy:(She stood up) It's all right. (Lula and Sanya stood up) Even the bones didn't break.
Alina:Phew, I thought they were animals. I'm sorry for doing this to you. (The others joined her)
Carlin:It's okay, the main thing is that we found you.
Krash:We'd better all go together.
Alina:Well good. (I saw the beast in the bag) What do you have there?
Wally:We bought this from the gypsies. We don't know who she is or who he is.
Alina went up to the beast and took off the bag. The characters were surprised that it was a pink, feline slime.
Alina:It's a pink, feline slime from the game slime rancher.
Daisy:Wow, we haven't heard that.
Sanya:But we'll have to take it.
Alina:Fine. And we'll give her a name, Jelly (Jelly smiles and flaps her ears).
Suddenly, the sounds of bushes were heard and the heroes hid behind a tree. They looked at the bushes with fear.
Lula:(In a whisper) There's someone in the bushes.
Daisy:(In a whisper) Sanya, come take a look.
Sanya:(In a whisper) Why me at once?
Daisy:(In a whisper) Well, you're shorter than all of us.
Carlin:(in a whisper) Quietly. (The heroes were still watching)
Alina:Hey, if you're harmless, then come out. And if not, then you will get it!
Krash:We'll throw a spear right now.
Christina:Don't need a spear!
Kristina, Julia and Katya came out of the bushes.
Alina:Girls, what are you doing here?
Katya:We've been looking for you half of Russia, and thank God we've found you.
Christina:If that's the case, then let's go home.
Alina:No. I won't be back when I deal with the Honey Badger with my friends.
Christina, Julia and Katya:What?
Julia:Are you crazy?
Carlin:No, she wanted to save the whole world and is looking for friends to win.
Alina:Yes. Meet our friends. Well, these are Lula, Daisy, Sanya and Jelly. My new friends.
Katya:Wow, well, I'm Katya.
Julia: I'm Julia.
Christina:And I'm Kristina (His backpack is moving).
Katya:Kristina, what's with your backpack?
A Redhead poked her head out of the backpack, which surprised everyone.
Alina:The Redhead, (Hugged the Redhead) I'm so glad to see you.
Christina:So was that your Redhead in my backpack the whole time?
Chiko:It turns out she was looking for you too.
Redhead was scared when she saw the Jelly.
Alina:Don't worry, you'll make friends someday. Well, we should be on our way. (To Kristina, Yulia and Katya) You will also come with us.
Christina:Oh, I wasn't.
All the heroes went together in search of the Honey Badger.
To be continued...

大家好! According to tradition, ren ri (humans day) is everyone's birthday and we celebrate it by feasting. Pa and I decided to have jiao zi (steamed dumplings); because they're shaped like ingots, they're believed to bring wealth and prosperity. We ordered prawn and pork as well as vegetarian dumplings and walloped them all. Gosh, they were so delicious!

In the evening, N and I caught up for some red wine and shared lamb, escargot, mozzarella balls with cherry tomatoes, spinach and bacon, as well as margherita pizza. In case I haven't mentioned it earlier, he's half French and very in tune with his Western roots. So when we hang out, Western cuisine is what we usually have, partly also because he loves meat and cheese. N told me he's developed feelings for me and mentioned the L word. I'm deeply fond of him but am not sure if it's L yet; thank goodness he's willing to gimme time to figure it out!

Sunday was kai gong (open for business) lunch with Grace and Douglas. The couple brought in pen cai from Malaysia at a much lower price than it costs here and I bought yu sheng (lo hei) with additional Hokkaido scallops and tobiko. It was a lot to eat for 3 and we were stuffed to the brim! The meal was pretty healthy though, with plenty of veggies and seafood. After that, they gave me some homemade jiao zi (dumplings) to take home with me.

Haven't eaten duck in awhile and apparently, it's the red meat with the lowest amount of vitamin K. Duck breast when done well can be yummier than chicken breast and I requested for it, as well as a braised egg. The protein and veggies sat atop deliciously QQ thin yellow noodles and the meal came with a small bowl of tasty winter melon soup. All this goodness for $5.20. Why eat pasta when the price of 1 can get me about 4 portions of nutritious local fare?

So far, I've held off saying firmly that the war in Gaza is genocide. However, Palestinians are perilously close to a starvation crisis as there isn't enough aid flowing into the devastated area. If a famine occurs and results in massive numbers of deaths, I'll be pushed into saying this war, in my view, is genocide. Only pushing for a ceasefire can save these innocent lives and I'll continue to pray very hard for them. 下次见!

Guardelia Cloak 2
(Fernie) "I draw" hmm I guess I will go for this, "I summon Amethyst Mage as my ace and use her ability which boosts all my Mage's power when she is summoned as the ace!". It still wasn't enough power....even if I power boost Bronze Mage again Miguel has 2 shields to block both attacks. Each turn a player draws from a shield deck and since he didn't guard he has a defence lead over me! (Fernie) "Bronze Mage will attack your second Lance Statue while Amethyst attacks your ace!" (Miguel) "I won't defend, smart move!" I decided to write down my damage bet's! I went for 3 but he was still yet to use a shield which was concerning. "I summon Twin-Bladed Statue as my new ace and summon an Axe Statue! I then activate Rock Blast which destroys a monster 2 levels below my ace!". -Gulp- I didn't see him going for an effect destroy, he then attacked me and I blocked his ace with Ruby Shield....level 3 monsters had to bet 3 stones minimum!" He had bet 3 on both attacks though so again he took the lead.
(Fernie) "I summon Sapphire Witch as my ace, I use her ability to re summon a former ace mage in the battle line! I choose Amethyst mage and once again I use her ability, I then summon Crystal Witch and activate Crystalized Magic which boosts the power of all gem magic monsters! All three monsters will attack your ace!" I beat 3 on Sapphire, 4 on Amethyst and 3 on Crystal Witch, (Miguel) "I will twin guard Sapphire's attack with two Pillar Shield's, and a Boulder Guard on Crystal Witch!". I assumed he would go all in on defending against Sapphire....it was a tough call between which of my other monsters I should of bet higher on. I ended my turn by placing another effect card, (Miguel) "I summon my third Lance Statue and then activate Battle Cathedral which boosts the power of all statue monsters!". This was bad...but I was prepared to take all three attacks head one! As expected he max bet all 3 attacks and I took 13 damage...."Looks like you are about to lose!". I drew a card....I smiled as it was the one that guy gave me before.
(Fernie) "I activate Crystalized Cloak and evolve Sapphire Witch to Sapphire-Cloak Lula. I then activate her ability and increase all my mage's by the power of a discarded monster and all 3 monsters attack. (Miguel) "I block Amethyst's attack with Boulder Shield, nice try but at most you can only hit me for 10 life!". (Fernie) "Nope, when a monster is cloaked it can deal up to 7 damage and recover 3 stones". It then hit him that between Lula and Crystal Witch I could deal the 12 damage needed to win! (Miguel) "Huh....I see to be honest I have never seen a cloak monster before!". (Fernie) "Yeah it must be some new thing....you better not.." (Miguel) "Relax I will apologize to the guy if I see him again, also guess I will pay for both meals!" (Fernie) "You um don't have to it was just I had to if I lost" (Miguel) "I um want to...the battle was pretty fun and I now know what cards I may have to compete with".
We enjoyed our food and went our separate way's I went back to the guy who gave me the deck! (Fernie) "Thanks for letting me borrow the deck, here" I tried handing it back but he did not accept! (???) "You can keep it, I heard you beat that Miguel kid so it seems well suited to you" (Fernie) "Thank you" ...it suddenly hit me I recognised the guy's voice, he was that Solis pro player. While I was deep in thought he had vanished, I decided to go back home and rest as I felt exhausted after the battle. I convinced myself I hated Guardelia but in reality I missed facing my brother as he was the best player I ever faced. Maybe I should try taking on some of the other players out there!

Summary: Kath and the bad batch make there way to the mandalorian settlement to find a new ship for them.
Hello and welcome to chapter three and to what ever the names of this series is. . . yeah I don't know what to say other than enjoy and don't mind the spelling errors.
Part two is right below here. 🔽
-start-
Lula the stuff toka thank force was ok. It had only taken a few minutes to find it. It was under the console, laying on its side, like it was curling up and resting, safe from the world. Probably had slid under the console as they crashed. Picking up the plush kath made at a 'aha!' Sound.
"Now lest get you to your one yeah?" Kath said Tucking the plush safely away in her belt before crawling out of the hole she made To get in. Wrecker had practically squealed like a child. When presented with the well loved boll.
"Lula!" Wrecker cried scooping up the toka from Kath and crushed the doll in his large arms "your ok!" Omega has made her way out of the room she was staying in and clung to wreckers leg. the other one, the ones with the prosthetics, that she had yet to learn the names of. Waddled his way out of the room like he had yet to fix his legs but did not seamed to care. He seamed more concern in his team.
"Is the ship ok?" He asked, leaning heavily on the wall. Hunter purist his lips and shook his head
"Half of it was melted" he told his companion, who wilted at his words.
"Now what?" The pale man asked "we don't have enough to buy a new ship" Hunters eyes widened at that realization.
"Crap" there leader hissed out "I forgot about that!" Tech hummed looking down at his data pad before he started typing something on it. Wrecker looked confused.
"But Kath promise to take us to the settlement!" Wrecker bleated.
"Wrecker even if we can get in there. we don't have the money to buy a new ship" Hunter informed the giant clone, who wilted at the news.
"Dold of you to assume I'd let you go to day" Kath spoke up from where she stood, removed her hemet, she walked further in to her home, passing echo as she dose so "most of you are still healing from your little crash" she giggled a little bit as she disappeared in to a side room. a few minutes latter returning with a box of tools in her arms instead of her helmet.
"Especially you" Kath said pointed to echo "your look like your about to pass out" echo blinked he knew he was not looking his best but he would not say he looked like he was about to pass out if they wind blew his way. Kath did not seamed to acknowledge echo's attempts to wave her off as she grade him and guided him to a chare.
"Sit" she ordered echo. The others of his squad seemed just as surprised at this.
"The rest of you to" she stared not even looking up from her tools. The lessened, eventuality, all siting in there own chares in the living room. Ether watching kath as she checked over echo's prosthetic or talking quietly talking to each other on how to get a ship.
----*----
"Do got any ideas on how to get that ship of yours?" Kath asked this morning as she served breakfast to every one.
"we can do a few odd jobs at the settlement" Hunter said. Kath hummed giving Wrecker his meal, who immediately wolfed it down. Hunter winced at the site. He had not clue how his younger brother could eat that much and at that speed.
"Do you have time to do that?" Kath asked them from where she stood. "And don't forget they don't trust out siders"
"Well its the only thing we could think up of" tech said matter of factually shifting his goggles proudly. Though Kath had not clue what he was proud of.
"Kay..." She drawl, ridding a knuckle over her lip, thinking. After a long while of thinking she spoke.
"I could buy it for you"
"Were not a charity case" echo snapped immediately at her. She eased her hands up, surrendering.
"Not what I was thinking but ok" Kath muttered before specking louder. "look you need a ship to get out of here and I've got the money. You can pay me back latter for it" Hunter looked at her skeptically.
"And if we can't pay you back?" He asked
"A favor then, though I'm not sure if I'll ever call that in" she stated to them with a nod. Hunter looked back to his squad looking over them carefully. Tech was the first to nod. Then Echo. Wrecker hummed in agreement. Omega gave such a confident nodded Hunter could not stop a smile to form on this face.
"All right then this an agreement. If we cant pay for it a favor" Hunter stated. Kath nodded seemingly pleased with her self.
"Well head out soon then" Kath told them grading her helm. "The journey takes a few days on foot so get ready y'all" and with that Kath exited the room.
----*----
The journey to the settlement was uneventful. Kath had lead them around most of the dangers, tar pits, dangerous fana, and unstable ground. The most dangerous thing the ran in to was a particularly hungry plant and even then Kath took care of it quickly.
"Why are we going in to a cave?" Omega asked as they neared its entrance. Kath gave a laugh that sounded like a strang honk as she lowers her self carefully in to the cave.
"Because adiik they find it safer to live under ground" Kath said helping the others down in to the cave. Omegas brows furrowed.
"Them why don't you live with them if its safe?" Kath froze grading the attention hunter be for regaining her composure.
"I provide them with energy" Kath said moving further in to the steep and rocky cave. "That's why I'm not with them. Ax and I monitor the static storms and repair the rod's when needed."
It was quieted as they moved down the steep slop of the cave the only sound was the scuffle of shoes against rocks and the occasional falling rock. The slop slowly leveled out in to a dark tunnel that banked sharply to the left. Then after a while a slow turn to the right. The cave was where smooth no ragged or sharp edges tech nodded as he ran his fingers on the wall. The ground was covered in small round pedals some times a large rock would appear though the seamed as smooth as the pedals where.
"Is cave used to be a river" Tech blurted out suddenly to the others. Wrecker ground slumping forward, making them child on this shoulder giggle, omega at some point had made her way on Wreckers shoulders. Echo just hummed from beside Wrecker and hunter ,who was beside Kath, made no notion that he hurd more focused of what was in front of him. Kath on the other hand glanced back at him a small smile pulled at the edge of her lips.
"What makes you was that?" She asked.
"Nooo" Wrecker wined childishly obviously not keen on the info bump that was about to happen. Tech smiled adjusting his goggles to sit more comfortably on this face.
"Well first of all" he started to name all the features of the cave that would make it an umber water river. Then the slipped in to an explanation on how his could have been made. Then at some point he started to talk about anything that was geography. No one complained ad out the info dump ,except Wrecker he wined every so often that its was going to make his head hurt, It filled the erey silents the cave had some how had made. It may have been the echos or how every thing was slick and slippery and the cold that nipped at your ears.
When Tech got to how volcanos worked Kath made a motion to quite down. Instead of quiting down tech stopped specking.
"What is it?" He asked looking at Hunter and Kath. Before Kath could answer Hunter spoke.
"The settlement is up a head" Kath gave Hunter a look but nodded.
"Yes the next turn the settlement will be visible" she told them.
Their foot steps quieted as they rounded the curve and true to her word they saw the settlement. The cave that they where in opened up on to a large cavern that was once an under water lake. There path lead down to the they settlement. Pedals turned to boulders and a flat surface turned in to a beep slop. Similar to the entrance the had enters from.
"Do they know were here?" Omega watched as the lights to the houses slowly turned on one by one.
"Yes" Kath said with absolute certainty as she stared at the fingers that slowly exited the buildings "these are Manbalorians after all" with that she headed down the slop. The others quickly followed after her.
Some one was waiting for them it the bottom of the slop. A Manbalorain that had green armer and they did not loomed pleased. Armed crossed and foot impatiently taping the ground. Kath ignored him. With the last part of the slop she was able to slide past the mando and started walking to the settlement. The bad batch followed her.
"Oh no you don't!" Snapped the mando rushing to get in front of them. That's when Kathy finally stopped and acknowledged the warrior.
"Why have you draught these strangers to are home aruetii!" The manbo spit the last word at Kath. If she was affected by the words she did not show it.
"The need a ship and they are here" she told the other, who only sputtered and growled something in his mother tough. Kath snarled something back that him that mabe the green mando get in to the others space.
"Your want to say that again aruetii?" The green MandalorIan snarled lowly.
"Oh I'm sorry I thought you could handel it in are mother tough" Kath sneered at the mando closing the distance between the two.
"You little-"
"That's enough!" A giant Mandalorian shoved his way in between he was bigger than Wrecker, but he was not the one that spoke. It was the old man that spoke. The was hunched over his cane and slowly shuffling his way over the them. Another Mandalorian was walking close to the elderly man and a not so subtle hand was hovering under the elderly's arm.
"Ezekiel what have I told you about messing with Katharine?" The old man grumbled, finally stopping in front of them.
"But she is a aruetii!" Th- Ezekiel barked, he was clearly not pleased by the intrusion. The elder gave him a harsh look.
"Just because she lives out side of are home dose not mean she's an outsider" Ezekiel shrunk back and away from Kath. The elderly man turn towards them and smiles gently.
"Katharine! How have you been?" He beamed waddling his way over to her, with his arms stretch out. The mando next to him seamed to have goten a heart attack from the elders reaction as the scrambled after him. picking up this cane as they do so.
"Ba'buir things have been going all right" Kath greets warmly, gently hugging the elderly man before releasing him and waving over the bad batch. "Ba'buir I wish I come here under my own volition but some of my friends need help"
The old man seemed to deflate at those words
"All right my dear" he nodded soulfully " let us talk some place warmer" he waved them to follow stopping after a few shaky steps. He stopped and looked around murmuring something about this cane. The mando that was quietly and patiently waiting at his side handed over the his cane.
"Oh thanks you dear" the Mandalorian nodded to the elders thanks and stayed by his side as they walk towards the building. Omega ,who was still on top of Wreckers shoulders, asked not so quietly.
"Ba'buir? It that this name?"
"No." Kath shook her head band slowed down her walk so she was close to Omega and Wrecker "Ba'buir is a title"
"Ooh" Omega gasped but immediately pause and made a face like she ate a lemon "a title for what?"
"Being a grandfather" Kath told her. Omega gave her a look that mabe her laugh "Mandalorains see grandfather or Ba'buir as a title just like how you may see sargent or boss as a title."
"So it hase to be earned?" Omega asked tilting her head to the side.
"I suppose yes" Kath hummed "my Ba'buir got it by just being him, Loving and kind. Every one here by now calls him Ba'buir"
----*----
Ba'buir and Kath as well as omegas brothers talked for hours on the ship that they needed. Patently it was not a easy as buying one and leaving. The still needed enough ship for every one to leave, in case of and emergency. At some point they had all left to the ship yard were omega was not allowed to be in. So she was left here waiting with Echo for her brothers to return.
"How long have they been gone for?" Ground Omega as she flopped back down on to her chare.
"Its only been a few minutes Omega they won't be back for a while" Echo told her scrolling throw a bata pad.
"Easy for you to say you have that data pad" she pouted crossing her arms over her chest. Echo only hummed and continued on with what he was doing. Slowly Omega stopped with her pouting and slipped off her chare walking over to Echo's.
"What are you reading?" She asked as slinked in to her brothers lap.
"Im not sure" Echo answer her "before the republic fell. I always found my self reading the update reg books in my free time" Omega scrunched up here face as she tried to read the complicated and blurring words.
"That's weird." Omega mumbled still trying to read the page he was on. Echo laugh yes it was weird he supposed, if he thought of it from an outsiders perspective. He could guess why he like to read that kind of stuff. It was probably because of how it was written. All the complicated words and rules that kept them in check, challenge him. it made him feel smart when he was a cadet. Domino squad just berated him for being odd and so ridged but the reg manual gave him a strang since of peace and closure, his brother never gave him. Not till after they succeeded there last test even then it was not much (then it was only fives and him). He shook his head focusing back on Omega. He did not need to think like right know.
"How about you try something easier?" Echo asked bookmarking the page and opening another.
"Can I pick?" She asked. She craned her head back form her eyes to meet his.
"Yes you can pick" Echo confirmed "want to read it out loud?"
"yes!" She said, practically vibrating his his lap. When his squad got back it had been several books later and a very tired Omega in his lap.
"Did you find anything?" Echo asked quietly. Hunter nodded.
"Yes is enough for us"
"Two rooms for us and a refresher" Tech told Echo.
"Even a small kitchen!" Wrecker boomed. Echo cringed as Omega jumped. Her head snapped up and looked around. she perked up a she notes the others.
"Your guy s are back!" She squealed, jumping off of Echos lap and leached on to Hunters leg. Wrecker shrunk in to his self just realizing she had fell a sleep.
"Oh sorry meg" Wrecker mumbled
"Its ok!" Omega chirped bounding over to hug his leg "I wanted to be awake when you guys came back anyway!"
"Oh ok" Wrecker said a bit dumbfounded as he pick up Omega.
"Where's Kath?" Omega asked looking past her brothers.
"She's helping with stocking the ship full of supply" Hunter informed her.
"Witch was unnecessary of them to do" tech huffed " but a welcomed one"
"Why are they doing that?" Omega questioned
"Turns out they all have a serious grudge against the imperial empire" Hunter said with a shrug.
"Oh" Omega uttered slumping against her giant brother.
----*----
"Hop to see you again in better circumstances" Kath told as the made the last preparations. Hunter smiled as he watch his brothers get ready in the cockpit.
"Don't worry will come back to pay off are debt with you" hunter reassured. Kathy huffed
"Gods know here I thought you'd just come to see me" Hunter rolled his eyes, Crosshair used enough sarcasm for him to recognize it anywhere.
"All right we can come just to see you to" Hunter mussed
"Oh why thank you sire. For you to blessing me with your presence" Kath said with a sarcastic bow.
"Oh of course" Hunter said just as sarcastically. It was strang to her sarcasm to be use this way. Crosshair used it in a much more negative manner. Kath burst out in a fit of laughter, as she eased from her bow.
"Thank you for that" she giggled "not many people run with my sarcasm like that" Hunter shrugged.
"Its not much one of my brothers use sarcasm" Kath hummed with a nod.
"Still thanks for that" she said "my I ask as to were you heading next?"
"Were work is" Hunter answered vaguely.
"Mercenary?"
"Guess you cloud say that" Hunter implied. Kathy nodded and patted him on this shoulder.
"Explains why the pimps hate yea" Kath noted "safe travels to you my friend" with that she left. Disappearing in to the shadows of the cavern. When Hunter turned back to the others they where looking at him to see if he was ready to leave clearly not caring if they where staring at him. He nodded and closed the ramp and as simple as that they left.
-end?-
As that the end we see if Kath and her people? I don't know maybe 🙄. Anyhow hoped you liked my shit writing see you on my next post peace.
Ps could totally see the clones calling 99 Ba'buir.

National Avocado Day
Today we celebrate avocados! A fruit that grows on trees, avocados have a tough skin with a greenish or yellowish flesh inside, as well as a large seed. They can range in size from that of a hen’s egg to up to about four pounds, depending on their variety. Some major varieties are Hass, Fuerte, Bacon, Zutano, Rincon, Mexican, Guatemalan, Booth 8, Booth 7, Lula, and Waldin. They are native to Mexico and to the area south of there down to the Andes Mountains.
The Aztecs are known to have eaten avocados. For a long period of time, avocados were only eaten in Central and South America and in the Caribbean, where they gained the name “alligator pear.” In 1833, horticulturist Henry Perrine became the first to plant avocados in Florida. They were first planted in California in the 1880s. By the turn of the century, orchards were established, and avocados first gained commercial importance.
Avocado dishes began appearing in Mexican recipe books and restaurants in the 1920s. During this time, avocados really weren’t popular in the United States except for in California, Hawaii, and Florida. More Americans began embracing avocados when they became a popular salad item in the 1950s. Guacamole also gained in popularity, largely on account of the El Torito restaurant chain. In the twenty-first century, the popularity of avocados has continued to increase. According to the Hass Avocado Board, avocado consumption doubled between 2005 and 2015 and quadrupled between 2000 and 2015. Today, the biggest growers of avocados are Mexico, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and Columbia. They are also grown in Florida, California, Hawaii, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Israel, and some Pacific Islands.
Avocados are a good or high source of vitamins C, E, K, B1, B2, A, and potassium, and they are a rich source for omega-3 fatty acids. They are high in monounsaturated fats that are healthy for the heart. One of these fats, oleic acid, is also healthy for the skin. Not only can avocados benefit the skin by being ingested, but they can be used topically. The Aztecs used them in skin masks, and by the early twentieth century, they were being used in facial cleansers, creams, and lotions. This is still the case today.
Avocados are used in savory and sweet dishes all around the world and are almost always eaten raw. One of the most common uses for avocados is guacamole. It is made by mashing them and is used as a dip for tortilla chips. Avocados are spread on toast and tortillas, eaten in salads, and even enjoyed as desserts. In some countries, they are used in milkshakes or other drinks, and sometimes in ice cream. Avocado oil is used in salads and dips as well.
National Avocado Day was founded by Model Meals, a meal delivery service that focuses on sustainable agriculture and healthy eating. They work with local organic farmers and growers to create menus. Avocados are often used, and they decided to create a holiday because they liked them so much. They chose July 31 as the holiday’s date because it is during peak avocado season in California.
How to Observe
Celebrate the day by eating avocados! There are many varieties you could try and many different ways you could eat them. You could have some guacamole and chips or spread avocado on toast. You could also use avocados to make a salad or a dessert. Some restaurants give away free guacamole today, so keep an eye out for that. Another idea could be to use oils and lotions made with avocados.

Tooka Dolls: Wrecker x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You’re a bit embarrassed that you still have plushies for comfort, but find out Wrecker has one too.
Words: 600+
Warnings: none
Author’s Notes: I’ve read every Wrecker fic I can find on the internet so I guess it’s time to write my own now, have some fluff with our new fave space himbo <3

Moving into the Bad Batch’s ship was already stressful on its own, but honestly you were more worried about them silently judging your living habits.
These guys were so used to being on the run, going from one mission to the next. They didn’t seem to have any keepsakes or objects of sentimental value, only carrying what they need. They sleep at the strangest hours of each cycle and mainly only snack on nutrient bars, unless they somehow have the spare time to sit down for a meal. All kinds of weapons line the walls, and the ship always has some sort of strange smell that they’ll either blame on each other or ignore.
You, on the other hand, aren’t as used to a chaotic lifestyle. You joined them a bit out of the blue, and you tend to stick to the schedule you’re used to from your own planet. You’ve kept quite a few things from home with you as well, which you tend to hide in the corner of your bunk so no one sees. You don’t want them to think you’re a liability because you have attachments and need comfort objects to sleep. You don’t want them to think you regret coming with them either.
One afternoon, though, it’s pretty quiet and you take the opportunity to relax until you get to your next destination. You curl up in your bunk with the blanket a friend made you back home, inhaling the scent. You also take out a few plushies from your suit case and cuddle with them, grabbing your holopad to browse anything interesting.
You reply to some messages from your friends, hoping it’ll reach them despite the slow transmission speeds out here. Tech also set up a filter on the ships network, which is supposed to guard you from being tracked. If the new empire finds out about where any of you are, you’re all in big trouble.
“Hi Y/N!”
You jump at Wrecker’s booming voice entering the room.
He retracts a bit, noticing your alarm, “Oh. Sorry, am I bothering you?”
“No not at all,” you shake your head. “I was just having some me-time I guess,”
“I have that sometimes,” he nods, scanning your little set up. “Whoa! Is that a tooka doll?!”
“Yeah…”
“You have two?!” he gasps and grabs them from beside you. “That’s awesome!”
“You don’t…think it’s weird to have toys at my age?”
He stares at you in genuine confusion, “What?”
You sigh, “I thought you guys would think I’m not tough enough because I need them to sleep,”
“That’s weird. I have one to sleep and I’m the toughest guy here!” he grins, flexing his arms. “Hang on, I’ll show you mine!”
He shuffles over to his bunk and grabs and red and black doll.
“This is Lula!” he wiggles it around in the air. “I’ve had her for as long as I can remember!”
“Aww, I love her,” you laugh, walking your dolls towards his. “Maybe ours can be friends,”
“Whoa really?!” he beams. “Yes!!”
“Will you guys quiet down back there?” you hear Tech say, making you both burst into laughter again.
“SORRY!” Wrecker yells back. “Well, I’ll let you get back to your me-time,”
“Actually,” you grab his arm before he leaves. “I don’t mind your company,”
“You don’t?” his face lights up.
“Nope,” you lift your blanket a bit so he can join you under it.
“That’s so awesome!” he bonks his head crawling in, but eventually settles next to you, “I like spending me-time with you,”
You smile, leaning on his shoulder, “Me too.”

The Best Takeout & Delivery We Got This Week (3) added to Google Docs
The Best Takeout & Delivery We Got This Week (3)
Restaurants across the state have slowly started to reopen, and close, and reopen again over the past few months. It can be a lot to keep up with, and there’s still a large degree of uncertainty around the safety of dining out. Want to know what’s safe? Eating at home. And if you’re as bored of canned tuna as we are by now, here are a few great meals we’ve had recently that you can get for takeout or delivery.
Featured In The Ultimate Austin Delivery & Takeout Guide See all our guides Week Of August 10  Raphael Brion SeoulJu Korean Kitchen & Bar $ $ $ $ Bar Food ,  Korean  in  North Lamar $$$$ 9515 N Lamar Blvd Ste 230
The North Lamar Korean restaurant Seoulju has been takeout only since the pandemic hit, and just last week they launched delivery of both food and drink. Which means that you can get dishes like Korean Fried Chicken, kimchi stew, and spicy rice cakes, alongside beer and soju delivered right to your door. We opted for two sauces on our still-crispy chicken wings: Korean Sweet & Chili and Extra Spicy Sweet & Chili. Get the extra spicy.
 Raphael Brion Joe's Bakery & Coffee Shop $ $ $ $ Tacos ,  Mexican ,  Cafe/Bakery ,  Tex-Mex  in  East Austin $$$$ 2305 E 7th St
The dining room at Joe’s Bakery, the family-run East Side Tex-Mex staple, is closed. For now they’re sticking to a drive-in model (you can’t even call ahead or order online). You park, waitstaff comes out and asks if you need a menu, they take your order, and the food comes out fast. We recently got an order of breakfast tacos (migas con todo and a bacon, egg, and cheese) as well as a side order of carne guisada and a whole bunch of their fluffy homemade flour tortillas. Everything was excellent, as always. You don’t even need to ask for their spicy salsa - they’ll put so many containers in your takeout bag that you’ll have leftover salsa for days and days.
Nicolai McCrary The Gossip Shack $ $ $ $ Southern ,  Soul Food ,  Fried Chicken  in  East Austin ,  Windsor Park $$$$ 2709 Rogge Ln
The menu at Gossip Shack consists of just a few items - chicken, waffles, and waffle fries. But everything they offer, they do exceptionally well. Their wings are some of our favorite in town, due in large part to their unique offering of flavors, like jerk chicken or their signature CPR (Cajun, parmesan, ranch). And those are exactly what we got - large, perfectly fried chicken wings coated in Cajun spices, ranch seasoning, and enough parmesan to make a bowl of spaghetti jealous. Orders can take a while and they often sell out before their stated hours, so call ahead and get your order in ahead of time.
 Nicolai McCrary La Fruta Feliz $ $ $ $ Tacos ,  Mexican ,  Tex-Mex  in  East Austin ,  MLK ,  Mueller $$$$ 3124 Manor Rd
We love a lot of things about La Fruta Feliz - their barbacoa de chivo (barbecue goat) is a favorite on tacos, and their al pastor is excellent - but if you’re looking for a really good and hearty lunch, their torta is a clear winner. Coming in at a massive 12 pounds (don’t fact check us on that), it’s packed full of meat - in this case, al pastor - and veggies for just under $5. They also have a huge fruit and veggie juice list, so go ahead and throw on a Digestivo (papaya, orange, and carrots) to help you get it all down.
Week Of August 3  Raphael Brion Carpenters Hall $ $ $ $ American ,  Seafood  in  South Lamar $$$$ 400 Josephine St
Carpenters Hall at the Carpenter Hotel has switched to takeout only, and they’re selling a cold fried chicken picnic for two or four. For $28, the picnic is not an insignificant amount of food, consisting of a half chicken (with a ranch dressing and spicy honey), potato salad, roasted green beans, and a cabbage slaw. Plus two very good chocolate chip cookies. You will have leftovers.
 Raphael Brion Slab BBQ $ $ $ $ Southern ,  BBQ  in  Wooten $$$$ 9012 Research Blvd Ste C4
The Slab Slider Trio at Slab BBQ is exactly what it claims to be: three barbecue sliders. They’re mini versions of their much larger sandwiches: the Notorious P.I.G. (pulled pork, mustard coleslaw), the Texas O.G. (brisket, pickles, onions), and the Chicken W.A. (smoked chicken, coleslaw). But just because they’re smaller doesn’t mean they don’t pack the same flavor punch. And at $12, it’s a perfect lunch for those of us afraid of a singular sandwich commitment. Why have just one sandwich when you can have three, each one better than the next?
Nicolai McCrary Lechonera El Pachango $ $ $ $ Latin ,  Puerto Rican  in  East Austin $$$$ 2701 East Martin Luther King Jr Blvd
Lechonera El Pachango specializes in roast pork - something they’ve proven to do exceptionally well in the short month that they’ve been operating out of a seemingly-abandoned gas station on East MLK. We weren’t sure what we wanted to try when we pulled up, so we decided to just go with our nose (and a little guidance from the owner). We ended up walking out with a plate of slow-roasted pork, rice with peas, and yuca with pickled red onions. The pork was juicy and topped with a sauce made from a bit of the marinade and lime that we couldn’t get enough of. The yuca con mojo comes out in a stewed-consistency, making it fork-tender and bursting with tangy flavor. And the rice was the perfect intake-vehicle for all of it.
Week Of July 27  Raphael Brion Hank’s $$$$ 5811 Berkman Dr
We’re working on a guide to takeout Happy Hours, and the Windsor Park neighborhood restaurant Hank’s has a very solid offering. Every day from 3-6:30pm, you can get very good and very inexpensive frozen palomas, frose, and frozen margaritas - they’re $5 each. Order online, and pick up at their convenient drive thru takeout window. Instead of racing home with your frozen cocktails - drive safe - it’s perhaps better to bring a cooler.
 Nicolai McCrary Bodhi Viet Veggie $ $ $ $ Vegetarian ,  Vietnamese ,  Vegan  in  North Austin $$$$ 2301 W Parmer Ln
Bodhi Viet is a small food truck in North Austin with a 100% vegan Vietnamese menu, offering everything from banh mi and pho, to Vietnamese coffee and boba tea. We really liked the banh mi we had here, stuffed with a spicy lemongrass seitan, and filled with fresh vegetables that they grow themselves. And the best part is that they’re only $3, so you can throw in an order of their pineapple curry that we also really enjoyed and still get away for under $10.
 Raphael Brion Vic & Al’s $ $ $ $ Sandwiches ,  Cajun  in  Cherrywood ,  East Austin $$$$ 2406 Manor Road
Vic & Al’s is the new Cajun restaurant from the people that brought you the ever-popular Italian food trailer, Patrizi’s. We really like the po-boys, especially the super-tender blackened catfish and the Cochon De Lait, which has a sauce that’s almost like tonkotsu broth. The vacuum-packed, pre-made cocktails are also fun, including the very good made-for-summer Orange Drink (it’s very orange, but it also has tequila). Vic & Al’s is open for both takeout and delivery.
Week Of July 20  Raphael Brion Bufalina Deli $ $ $ $ Sandwiches ,  Italian  in  East Austin $$$$ 500 San Marcos St #105
Bufalina Deli isn’t technically a new restaurant - instead it’s a simple lunch-and-dinner concept operating out of Wright Bros. Brew & Brew with a variety of salads and Italian sandwiches. On a recent takeout order, we really liked the summer tomato salad and the meatball parm hoagie. And since you’re ordering from The Brew & Brew, you can also get coffee, beer, and wine. Place your order online and pick it up at The Brew & Brew.
 Raphael Brion Ramen 512 $ $ $ $ Japanese ,  Ramen  in  Central Austin ,  Wooten $$$$ 8023 Burnet Rd
You might have heard about Ramen 512 and their often sold out popups - yes, the ramen was that good. But now they’ve found a permanent home, inside the new “cloud kitchen” concept Kitchen United Mix. This place currently has three options: Hakata Classic (a pork tonkotsu), the BGO (the Hakata Classic with black garlic oil), and the Sunset Red (a spicy version of the Hakata Classic). We recently tried the BGO and the Sunset Red - the broth for each was super creamy and rich, as a pork tonkotsu should be, and the spice level on the Sunset Red was in fact actually spicy. You can order the ramen ready-to-eat, or you can cook the noodles at home, with very precise instructions. Takeout and delivery are available.
 Nicolai McCrary Lula Mae's Catering & BBQ $ $ $ $ BBQ  in  Cherrywood ,  East Austin $$$$ 3842 Airport Blvd
Despite the small space - Lula Mae’s is located in a small gas station off Airport and 38 ½ St. - this place manages to put out some really great barbecue, with side dishes that are tasty enough to order on their own. We really like the brisket and the pork chop - the latter of which is served as a giant, whole chop with a smoky exterior and a juicy center. You can get all of the meats by the pound, in combo-plates, or as a sandwich.
 Raphael Brion DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya $ $ $ $ Japanese  in  North Austin ,  North Loop $$$$ 7301 Burnet Rd
The dining room at DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya, the Japanese shabu-shabu place from the Ramen Tatsu-ya team, has been closed since the pandemic hit. But they did what people do these days, and pivoted. They transformed the restaurant into a takeout-only pop-up serving sandwiches that mash up the French dip and shabu-shabu, with excellent results. Our favorite is the beef sandwich with a wasabi ranch and the pork sandwich with kimchi and a curry cabbage slaw. For dipping, you can choose between an umami jus and a spicy miso (they recommend which dipping sauce to get for each sandwich). Make sure to get an order of the aptly named “Pow!tato” - a side dish with some of the most impossibly crispy smashed potato chunks we’ve ever had.

The Haitian food truck Kreyol Korner - off of North Lamar near Koenig - is usually open only on Saturdays, but it’s worth waiting for the weekend to roll around to try this place. Check their Facebook for the current menu and opening days and hours. Standouts from a recent meal include stuffed plantain cups and the super-tender stewed chicken combo. Also, make sure to ask for extra pikliz, the Haitian pickled vegetable relish.
 Nicolai McCrary Otherside Deli $$$$ 1104 W 34th St
Otherside Deli makes some of our favorite sandwiches in Austin, from cheesesteaks and meatball parm subs, to Italian subs and patty melts. But if you’re a first-timer at Otherside, chances are you’re here for the reuben - loaded up with their housemade pastrami, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and russian dressing, between two slices of grilled rye bread. Keep an eye on their Instagram for some fun specials, like the Outer Limit Fries that come loaded up with all of the typical reuben fillings, but on a bed of waffle fries. They’re currently accepting takeout orders from their shop near 34th and Lamar.
 Raphael Brion Ramen Tatsu-ya South Lamar $ $ $ $ Japanese ,  Ramen  in  South Lamar $$$$ 1234 S Lamar Blvd
Ever since they originally opened, Ramen Tatsu-Ya has been vehemently anti-takeout. But then the pandemic hit, and they pivoted to takeout-only (and have stayed that way ever since). We recently picked up some of their ramen and it tasted just like how we remembered it at the restaurant. The toppings and noodles come in their own container (that way the noodles don’t get soggy), and the broth is packed in a deli pint container that’s thoroughly wrapped in plastic wrap to prevent in-car disasters. The instructions are clear: heat the broth, do not boil, then add the broth to the noodles and toppings. And with three locations in Austin - north, east, and south - ramen is never too far away.
Week Of July 6  Nicolai McCrary Island Fork - Caribbean Cuisine $$$$ 100 12th St
Island Fork in Pflugerville specializes in Caribbean food, like jerk chicken, curry goat, and escovitch fish (fried fish topped with pickled vegetables). They also have jerk-seasoned burgers and chicken sandwiches, as well as a menu of “rasta pastas” that feature creamy, Caribbean-inspired pasta sauces served over noodles and a variety of meats, like oxtail and jerk salmon. We usually get the jerk chicken here, served with coconut rice and grilled sweet plantains. Make sure to get a Caribbean soda as well - we like the Irish Moss and Ting.
 Nicolai McCrary Cuantos Tacos $ $ $ $ Tacos ,  Mexican  in  East Austin $$$$ 1108 East 12th St
Blink and you might miss this little food trailer on East 12th street, which has some of the best Mexico City-style street tacos in Austin right now. Cuantos Tacos has a tight menu of classics like suadero and beef cheeks, as well as a few less-common options, like buche and longaniza. Everything can be made as tacos or quesadillas, and at $2 and $5, respectively, the prices are affordable enough that you can probably try a few items off the menu. We like just about everything they carry, but our favorites are probably the champiñones quesadillas and the suadero tacos.

There are miles of beautiful Chicago beaches, Chicago museums that rank among the world's best and the friendliest city-dwellers out there (if we do say so ourselves).
Whether you’re an out-of-towner or a tried-and-true Chicagoan planning a staycation, we’ve assembled the 25 best Chicago attractions for your touring convenience. Oh, and if you’re feeling decadent, cap off your day of sightseeing with a meal at one of the best restaurants in Chicago. What can you do in Chicago for a day? Ready to dive in to the windy city?
1. Millennium Park
What must see in Chicago? Millennium Park - This vast 24.5-acre section of Chicago’s front yard is one of the most popular places to spend time outdoors in the city, look at public art and attend special events.
To take a selfie in front of Cloud Gate (a.k.a. the Bean), go for a stroll through the serene Lurie Gardens, catch a free concert in the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion (in the summer) or skate on the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink (in the winter).
2. Art Institute of Chicago
What is the most popular tourist destination in Chicago? One of the city’s most well-known cultural institutions, which houses more than 300,000 artworks and an on-site restaurant, Terzo Piano (Italian-Mediterranean food).
Acquaint yourself with classic paintings like Georges Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (as seen in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) and Grant Wood's American Gothic, or explore an expansive collection of contemporary works in the museum’s Modern Wing. Check the museum's website for more information on temporary exhibitions.
3. Lincoln Park Zoo
Located in the middle of Lincoln Park, this 35-acre zoo houses more than 1,000 animals and is one of the few remaining free zoos in the country.
Watch lovely African penguins frolicking, observe majestic cats in the Kovler Lion House or visit the scaled residents of the McCormick Reptile House—all entirely free of charge. Trust us, it’ll get wild.
4. Garfield Park Conservatory
Among the largest conservatories in the United States, this giant greenhouse in Garfield Park provides a home for some 600 species of plants (most of which aren’t indigenous to the region).
Stop by 365 days a year to admire the gigantic trees that fill the Palm Room, see a depiction of ancient Illinois vegetation in the Fern Room or window shop for succulents and cacti in the Desert Room.
5. Wrigley Field
Built in 1914, Wrigley Field has been the home of North Side baseball team the Chicago Cubs for more than 100 years.
To watch baseball at one of the oldest ballparks in America, sing along during the seventh-inning stretch and see one of the only manually operated scoreboards in existence, controlled by three members of the Cubs staff.
6. Museum of Contemporary Art
Take in a constantly changing lineup of exhibitions, including touring shows from the likes of Takashi Murakami and Kerry James Marshall, or stop by the museum’s in-house restaurant, Marisol, where chef Lula Cafe chef Jason Hammel serves an inventive menu.
7. Time Out Market Chicago
Opening in 2019, Time Out is curating a 50,000-square-foot food hall in Fulton Market, hosting some of the city's top restaurants and chefs.
Time Out Market Chicago is a living, breathing version of our magazine, stocked with 18 different kiosks where you'll be able to enjoy dishes from folks like Brian Fisher of Michelin-starred Entente, Thai Dang of HaiSous and Zoe Schor of Split-Rail. There will also be three bars on-site, a demo kitchen and plenty of events taking place within the bustling space.
8. The Second City
Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert and Joan Rivers are just a few of the famous folks who honed their talents onstage at this theater devoted to sketch and improvised comedy.
You’ll see some of the most talented rising comedic talents (and maybe a couple future Saturday Night Live cast members) on the Second City’s Mainstage. If you want to learn more about improv, stand-up or sketch writing, you can sign up for a class at the Training Center.
9. The 606
A 2.7-mile stretch of an abandoned elevated rail line that has been transformed into a pedestrian path that connects Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Bucktown and Wicker Park.
It’s a great place to go for a jog, zip around on your bicycle and quickly transverse some of the most popular North Side neighborhoods. Plus, you’ll spot some art installations as you go.
10. The Green Mill
Once you’ve snapped a picture of the iconic Green Mill marquee, head inside, order a cocktail and take in a set from some of the city’s top jazz musicians. The music typically goes late, but you’ll need to show up early if you want to score a good seat.

Thirty Zero Point Weight Watchers Recipes for those days when you run out of points and realize it isn’t even dinner time yet. Use these delicious zero SmartPoints recipes whenever you need a low point option for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks.
For those people on Weight Watchers, sometimes a zero point recipe can save from what otherwise would have been a disaster of a day. I make zero point recipes part of my daily routine, but there are certain times I rely on them more then others. First of all, I almost always rely on a zero point breakfast and/or lunch when I know I have a fun evening event where I may want to indulge. Saving those points for a glass of wine, dessert, or heavier dinner allows me to indulge without too much worry. On the flipside, when I realize I have eaten almost all my daily points and it’s only 3:00 PM, believe me that I pull out some zero point recipes for dinner. Sometimes this means a simple omelet, but when I have time I like to cook an actual dinner.
Even if you aren’t on Weight Watchers, these recipes are still great options for dinner. They all are made with lean proteins. plenty of veggies, and fiber filled legumes and pulses. They are clean eating friendly and gluten free.
Zero Point Soups and Salad Recipes
Soups, stews, and salads are one of the easiest things to make when you need a zero point meal or side dish. When it comes to salads, usually I just pile in whatever veggies I have at home with either some leftover cooked chicken or canned beans. Since dressing can be high in points, I will use lemon juice or a drizzle of balamic vinegar. You can also make some pretty delicious zero point dressing using nonfat Greek yogurt, fresh herbs, and lemon juice. I look at soups and stews the same way. All you need is some fat free chicken broth, veggies, and lean protein or beans. Consider adding a can of diced tomatoes for extra flavor. The combinations of virtually endless.

Zero Point Recipes for Chicken and Turkey
On the new Weight Watchers plan chicken breast, turkey breast, ground chicken breast, and 99% lean ground turkey all having zero points. That makes them a no brainer when it comes to building zero or low point meals. Think about flavoring the chicken or turkey with spices and fresh herbs that are also free. Then you can use cooking spray for cooking without adding points. Then add some veggies, a big salad, beans, or lentils to finish your meal.
Slow Cooker Tomato Balsamic Chicken, 227 calories, 0 Freestyle SmartPoints™
Slow Cooker Italian Red Pepper Chicken, 236 calories, 0 Freestyle SmartPoints™

Zero WW Point Seafood and Vegetarian Recipes
Another option for an easy zero point meal is reaching for seafood, legumes, or pulses. Virtually all fresh fish and shellfish has zero points. One of my personal favorites is salmon since it is filling and works with all different flavor combinations. Usually I will throw it on the grill with some homemade blackening seasoning. Then I just throw some veggies alongside it and dinner is ready. When it comes to vegetarian meals, lentils are definitely my favorite. I love using them as a substitute in ground beef recipes since the texture is similar.
Slow Cooker Tuscan Lentil Sloppy Joes,  244 calories, 0 Freestyle SmartPoints™
Blackened Zucchini Wrapped Fish, 186 calories, 0 Freestyle SmartPoints™

Snacks and Desserts with Zero Points
On some days, you may just need a zero point snack or dessert to get through the day. I love making zero point hummus using chickpeas and nonfat Greek yogurt. It is filling and you can make so many different flavors. When I don’t have time to make a snack, I usually reach for nonfat Greek yogurt with a bunch of fruit or hard boiled eggs.
