Albus comically glanced over his shoulder, saw no one there, and then glanced back at him. “Hello. Can I umm - can I help you with plant?” He chuckled as Albus grimaced at his wording. “I mean, can I help you with anything?”

“It’s alright, you don’t need to apologise,” Astoria insisted. “But does your mum know you're here?"

"She saw me use the floo network. But I didn't tell her I was going, I just left,” Albus said, and then frowned to himself as he realised that she probably wanted to call his parents to come pick him up. But he wasn’t ready to go home just yet.

Astoria seemed to sense his disquiet and caught his attention as she reassured him, "I won't call her over, not unless you want me to. Until then, you can stay as long as you like. We can even arrange to have your luggage brought over and we'll take you both to the station tomorrow?"

Scorpius perked up next to him at the suggestion of them driving to King's Cross together and Albus couldn’t help but smile, a little, at the thought of it. "Thank you," he said, making of a point of looking Astoria in the eyes as he did.

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year

I think this must be either the scene in which Albus talks to Karl about his Thestral patronus in a flicker of hope that you first gave to me.

‘It was a Thestral,’ Karl mumbles.

‘That’s-’ Albus starts but Karl waves his hand.

‘I know,’ Karl whispers. His head hangs low and his eyes are focused on his hands. ‘It’s bad. It’s death. Some of the other students even stepped back, wanting to get away from me as fast as they could. I even heard someone whisper it’s bad, they resemble death, they are bad luck. Therefore I must be bad luck.’ He takes in a shaky breath and Albus can see tears glistening in his eyes. ‘I mean how else can you explain that my deepest connection, my patronus, is with a Thestral?’

‘I wasn’t going to say that,’ Albus says softly. ‘I was going to say it’s a beautiful patronus. Maybe one of the most beautiful patronuses I have ever heard of.’

Or it might be the scene in which Ginny talks to a very little Albus about what being in love feels like in my fic Like Fizzing Whizbees.

‘Mommy?’ Albus gently tugs on her sweater, bringing her back to the present.

Albus scrunches his nose up in disgust. 'Yuck!'
