okay so storytime:

guys I was a hardcore Cursed Child (London) fan when it first came out. saw the show opening night, then numerous times after that, kept up with the fandom, all that jazz. then I took a break for the past several years

today I went back to see it on a whim and

GUESS THEY MADE SCORBUS CANON WHILST I WAS AWAY HUH

(how is this real life????)

my face was an absolute picture I wish someone could have captured the expressions I kept making, I felt like I was going INSANE or having literal delusions

every time a line was different (or missing altogether??) I had to stop myself going HEY WHAT PARDON, and that final scene literally had me whispering "oh holy sh -" under my breath every five seconds lol

what a bizarre and lovely experience??

it took 8 years and umpteen rewrites but somehow this beloved little ship managed to scramble its way into canon. just. wow. I'm so happy for us all

when did this happen? who made the final call on scorbus? does anyone know the details?

thinking about how scorpius canonically was a very sheltered child and spent the majority of his time pre-hogwarts with his very proper pure blood parents. he’s like the equivalent of those children who are raised by their grandparents and talk like mini grandparents.

like i’m just imagining the early days of his friendship with albus and tiny 11 yr old scorpius is using very proper language and doesn’t understand slang meanwhile albus has 101 cousins and probably spoke exclusively in slang.

Scorbmas day 4!! Joint Potter-Malfoy Christmas.

Lily L. Potter : “You cheated! I saw your card!”

James S. Potter: “I have no idea what you’re talking about”

Albus S. Potter: *sigh* “They’re always like this”

Scorpius H. Malfoy: “I think it’s kind of wholesome”

it’s funny to think that albus’ best excuse for his and scorpius’ disappearance was that the two of them wanted to run away and start a new life together

A Cursed Child Theory: Albus was sorted into Slytherin because Scorpius was.

HEAR ME OUT OKAY!!

The facts:

The sorting hat will take your wishes into account if you feel strongly enough

Albus felt very strongly about not wanting to be in Slytherin

The hat wasn't sure at first: "He puts his hat on ALBUS’s head – and this time he seems to take longer – almost like he too is confused."

So why was he sorted into Slytherin?

Because Scorpius was sorted into Slytherin, and Scorpius asked him if he wanted to be called Al or Albus.

We know our boy hates people calling him Al.

We know he feels an intense pressure to be who his family wants him to be.

Scorpius' first instinct was to ask him what he wanted to be called. In Albus' eyes, Scorpius was the first person in his life to put his wishes first. PLUS, we can only assume that after the scene cuts the two had the time of their little lives chatting on that train journey.

So when Scorpius was sorted into Slytherin, a little subconscious part of Albus' brain went "if he's in Slytherin, it's okay if I am too" and that's why the hat decided Slytherin.

In the first alternate universe (in the original script) he's in Gryffindor. Why? There's no Rose to force him to try and make a friend on the train, therefore no meeting with Scorpius, therefore he gets put in Gryffindor because Slytherin now has no redeeming qualities to him.

Scorpius' kind lil soul is the reason Albus Potter was put in Slytherin.

Don't mind me, I'm just thinking about the mirroring between Draco Malfoy knowing who Harry Potter was before they arrived at Hogwarts, and assuming that he would want to be friends with him because he's a Malfoy, and Scorpius Malfoy knowing who Albus Severus Potter was before they arrived at Hogwarts, but assuming that he wouldn't want to be friends with him because he's a Malfoy.

The stark difference between those two initial meetings is so, so important to me. And I will forever love Albus for seeing past the Malfoy name because, even though everyone was telling him that Scorpius was the "wrong sort", he went with his heart and found his soulmate.

Another favourite is OBVIOUSLY scorbus which is the ship between Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Severus Potter

In their original 2 parter versions they were written as best friends and Scorpius ended the show by asking Rose out, however when the 1 parter was released this was changed and it has since been changed in the 2 parter as well. Some people still aren’t aware that scorose is no longer canon and scorbus now is.

Along with removing scorose they also made several other changes to make Scorpius and Albus’ relationship less platonic since actors and fans had been asking for years.

Scorpius is nerdy, sweet and goofy. He loves sweets and homework and is thrilled when he’s compared to Hermione Granger. Just like his father, Draco Malfoy, he has platinum hair, grey eyes and a pointed chin. He also has his fathers nose.

Albus is the second son of Ginny and Harry as well as the middle child. He is the only Slytherin in his Gryffindor family. He hates quidditch, Hogsmeade, Hogwarts, Hogwarts Students and, according to everyone else, Gryffindor. Albus has a rough relationship with his older brother, his father, his cousin and all his classmates except Scorpius. He also tends to struggle in school. He’s described to look about as much like Harry as Scorpius looks like Draco. Back when Albus was straight he still managed to get absolutely zero bitches.
