A Year of Lupin
Part 1
Pilot Film
This was an animation test to see if any studios were interested in making a Lupin the Third series. The pilot film showcases the characters and what their roles are in the story. It's rough, but it would lead to the 50+ year franchise of a gentle thief.
Lupin Part I
For the 1970s, I was interested by the way the show was animated and being thrilled with each mission. I enjoy the animation. The sub cast were great, and it is more fun to see how Lupin and his friends escape from the situation. It's a good watch!
The Mystery of Mamo
The first Lupin movie and wow, it was something. I enjoy the animation and how stylized it was with its colors. While the story was a bit out there, it was engaging with the action and surprises. Also, the music was pretty funky. I love it!
The Castle of Cagliostro
I was highly excited to watch this as it was the directorial debut of Hayao Miyazaki. Of course, it's a classic in the Lupin franchise and one of the most important animated movies in animation history. I love everything about the movie from the animation, music, story, etc. I think it's clear that The Castle of Cagliostro is brilliant and was a delight to watch.
Part II
This is the most iconic of the Lupin series and rightfully so. I watched half of the series in English (turns out the dub was never fully recorded) and the rest in Japanese. Still, both versions of the cast were great. I also love how expressive the animation is along with the stories. Some episodes are wacky, heartwarming, or straight up upsetting. Overall, I had a blast watching this Lupin series.
Part III
I had my doubts because the animation style wasn't for me. I love the colors that were used, but the characters designs weren't the best. However, the show did get better towards the second half. We still got the adventures and fun antics like in Part 2, yet it was so cool with the neon colors and 80s music.
The Fuma Conspiracy
Wow, the animation budget was insane in this OVA. It sucked that the original voices of the Japanese cast didn't voice their characters. The actors in the movie were fine, but it wasn't the same. The story is short and gets to the point, again animation was so great, and it was great to see Goemon get some time to show his skills. I had a fun time with this one.
