Short character study of Chimney in SE4EPS4

In honor of the new episode airing today, I really wanna look back for a second on Chimney's part in se4 episode 4: What's your grievance?

We were gifted with the icon buckley dinner scene and Buck's line: "Love me anyway." that fanfic writers, including myself, ate the fuck up.

I was recently rewatching the episode and noticed during the diner scene how well and respectful Chimney handled the situation. He was clearly there on invention, knowing Chimney himself would probably be hesitant at first to participate since he knows how important that diner was for Maddie and Buck, and he probably didn't want to overstep. So the main reason he's there is as support for Maddie, which he did perfectly.

So with that in mind, again with the fact that he didn't wanna overstep, he was kind and respectful, didn't make anything about himself and sometimes tried lighting the mood when a hurtful remarks were thrown around at Maddie or Buck.

He let's Maddie speak, he doesn't intrude. He knows this isn't his place to meddle even though maybe he likes to say something in their defense. He knows it's a family situation and he doesn't want to overstep. He offers mental support for Maddie, which she is very grateful for. Just him being there means a lot to Maddie. He lets her speak, comforts her with physical touch like holding her hand or looking at her when she speaks. He wants her to know that he's here for her and that he is listening.

What really stuck out to me was his attempt to comfort Buck, a job normally his parents would do. When Maddie is given her baby box, Buck's immediate response is asking when he'll get his, in which Margaret and Philip share an annoyed look.

Chimney sees this happening and is taken aback. He didn't expect their reaction.

After noticing the silence on Buck's question he tries his best to comfort Buck. He knows how awful they hurt Buck with their unanswered answer so he tries to lighten the situation. He places a hand on his shoulder and answered in Margaret and Philip's place with:

"you're not even a grown up yet, they're probably still adding stuff"

He tries providing an answer to comfort Buck. Even throwing a "right?" after it as he is seeking confirmation with the parents to undo Buck's hurt. They reply very quiet, nodding their head in shame, not wanting to go further in on it. But their silence confirms what they all expected, they never made a box for Evan.

He later checks back in on Buck after he realizes that Buck realizes there isn't a box for him. He feels bad about his failed attempt to comfort his friend. He's stuck. He wants to do more but knows it isn't his fight.

These tiny moments show a lot about Chimney himself but also his love for Maddie. He understands their trauma and the situation they are put in. I also personally think that Chimney deserves more love bc his character is sometimes overlooked, even tho he places a big (comforting) role in lots of situations.

A girl's lunch was just what the blonde needed, it seemed, after what had seemed to be a stressful few weeks. Though her boyfriend hadn't told her every little detail of how he'd found out about his father, or the times he'd met his new kind of step-mom and half-siblings, Maddie knew it was enough to warrant seeing Marie herself. As someone who hadn't had her sister around for a long time, and Marie never having one before just recently, it was like the two had found each other as substitutes in the months that she and Toulouse had been dating.

With their milkshakes and fries on the way, Maddie debated tiptoeing around the subject she really wanted to hear about, but she'd never been that kind of girl. She and Marie had begun to skip the niceties a while ago, when Maddie struggled with the conflicting feelings surrounding Liv coming back home. "So, how did it go? Toulouse told me your new brother looks just like him. He said it was the first thing he said to him. And that your kind of step-mom is really sweet."

A Father’s Day for Bastien.

Maddy will arrange a scavenger hunt for him. They’re always hiding Waldos, this just feels like the next step. She hid cards while he was sleeping in ‘six places in their home that they had made love’. Considering that still left a lot of places, it’s good that it wasn’t too big of a home.

Taped to her ‘exercise’ pole cause one time she was really feeling it which probably would have made him feel it) (6. Three are from her, her own signature inside of them, while three are from Frankie and have her little handprint on them, dipped in blue paint and then pressed onto the inside.

Because Maddy has enjoyed making photobooks, like the special Valentines Day one the year before, she’s going to make a special one of Frankie’s first six months with her Papa Bear as the gift for finding all of the cards. It’s going to start off with pictures comparing them - one of the very few baby pictures that she was able to find through going through every avenue on the internet that had to do with the Belleroses, and then a picture of their own little girl, showing how they did resemble each other. Frankie had his big eyes, the forehead slope. The rest of the pictures were of the two of them, only a fair few had her in them since there weren’t many times when there was someone else around to take photos of all three, but even those were focused on Bastien and the little girl that made him so damn happy.

Of course, he was going to be having his favorite throughout the day. His favorite foods, they could watch his favorite movie, they could go on a long walk together which also seemed to be his favorite thing to do. It’s a day totally about him.

Because of last years mixup, she’s also not just gonna be sending out texts. Two shirts - one in Thomas’s size and one that was one up from Flo’s to make room for breasts, are going to be sent to the Laveau pair. It was so up both of their alleys, matching shirts for the duo that was affectionately known as the ‘dads’ seemed perfect.

And of course since she got the Savanne girls some things, she’s got a gift coming for Chip. She thought of him the moment that she saw it, and had to get it, along with just a basic Happy Fathers Day card

if it’s during the school year, i just stay in the trailer and do school work, if i’m not being used as an extra or a stand in. when it’s not the school year, i kinda just follow her around, helping wherever i can!

i did, and i was super excited to, as i loved her in B99!

no, as i was under 15, so mom didn’t think it was a good environment for me, because i’m ND so it would have been very overstimulating. i usually stayed with my grandparents, or with Chris Evans when it was a non marvel project as he’s my godfather!

yes!! i changed abby a bit. she’s still tough, but she’s not mean the way she is in the show. i also changed the favouritism because yes maddie was one of the best but abby chose to not correct her sickled feet, the same with how she didn’t correct mackenzies alignment in tricks until it was too late. i hate those things about the show so i changed them lol

William John: We're at the end of 2023, and while the Origibabes are finally back again, they've now got upstarts to contend with. Say Now, known by the dubious moniker "needanamebro" for most of this year, are three young singers who combine imperiousness and beatific harmony; the more things change, the more they stay the same. "Not A Lot Left To Say" goes by in a blink, but perhaps that's by design, given that it's documenting the painful moment of a relationship that sits somewhere between Erykah Badu's "Next Lifetime" and a kind of detached apathy -- to say anything more than nothing seems fruitless. The song's spacious production reminds me of "Everything is Embarrassing," Dev Hynes' classic traipse through the gloom with Sky Ferreira. It was Hynes who guided Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan back from the figurative dead ten years ago, and while they're hardly in danger of being replaced just yet, I'm excited by the prospect of Ysabelle, Amelia and Maddie continuing their legacy. [9]

Nortey Dowuona: Ysabelle starts the song off on a tough but wistful tone, feeling a bit let down by how it all collapsed and ended, but slowly accepting the outcome. Amelia is completely over it all, wanting badly to move on and put it all behind her. Maddie is still not over it, still longing for those close days. But Amelia, allowed the only direct riff on the bridge, soars, her unspoken hurt lingering in those notes, then she returns to the alcove of the group, all of them united in putting this relationship to bed, but quietly wiping a few tears away, hurt yet resolute. Ian Mathers: Breakup songs that also acknowledge "don't wanna be your friend, don't wanna be your ex" are too few and far between, and this one has a commendable sense of swing, vocal performances, and brevity to match. Like the relationship, it ends just when it needs to. [9]

Michael Hong: Soft girl group harmonies and fluttering club kicks. Where those disappear, the song feels scant, yet the words feel stickier. For the amicable break-up song that "Not a Lot Left to Say" is, are you supposed to only come out thinking about the words "bet I'm still the one?" [7]

Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: Densely packed pop product -- every line genuinely makes impact, every hook connects with none of the excesses that aspirational pop groups sometimes burden themselves with. This is competent and poised but never stiff; the three of them balance the clear effort they're putting into this attempt with the joy of having the chance to try it. [8]

Will Adams: Formerly known as needanamebro, now known as Say Now. Both names are so bad I assumed this was a Xenomania project. They're not, but the bland UK pop polish of "Not a Lot Left to Say" could have convinced me on its own. [5]

Crystal Leww: One of the most wonderful things about UK pop music is how it's continued the tradition of the girl group in Western pop, which has largely ceded ground to Asia. Say Now follows in a long lineage, which recently just made FLO the Sound of 2023, and "Not A Lot Left To Say" is just stacked and layered harmonies on top of each other. I feel like this is like the **~~Just Girl Things~** version of when the dude at the party busts out the acoustic guitar -- just three girls riffing and seeing how they can jam together and make a little tiny shitting on their ex. Cute! [7]

GIFTS: Merry Christmas from the Laveaus to the Belleroses. MANDATORY: Why Mount Meadow and what brought you to town? The thing about Hollywood is that no matter how big it may appear on the outside, it's small and suffocating on the inside. This year Flo had found herself in a flurry of tabloids. Whether it was about break ups, hook ups, body shaming or on set drama, everywhere she turned her face was plastered next to a heinous headline.
