Someone of Matthew Edwards musical pedigree was bound to come across my radar at some point - I just thought it would have been long before now.

Edwards is English, but currently lives in San Francisco. But I don't think he's part of the current SF/Oakland scene. His music is a bit more produced and literate. It's satisfying my need for music like that of Maxwell Farrington/Le SuperHomard, The Divine Comedy, David Bowie, and David E. Williams.

The Futurists are Edwards' San Francisco based band. He did record a "recent" LP in his hometown of Birmingham, England with a group he called The Unfortunates. He also was in The Music Lovers who put out music on Le Grand Magistery (known to me because of Momus and Louis Philippe). He has collaborated with Fred Frith, and members from Ladybug Transistor and The Essex Green.

This two-song 7" appears to be self-released.

From a Catholic perspective this is a logical conclusion when dealing with sedevacantists. How is the school structured? What sort of classes will MC be taking? Are they going to take math?

as mentioned here the magisteris runs for seven years, and is focused on education within magical and non-magical disciplines. the breakdown by year is under the cut for length.

year one students take eight mandatory classes. a core four subject classes (mathematics, science, social studies, english), two classes focused in magical discipline (theory i & invocations), a physical education class, and advisory, which is held once a week and focuses on wellness and meditation techniques.

year two keeps nearly the same schedule, but students can choose whichever two based in magical discipline (theory ii, spell formula, advanced invocations, etc) they prefer. this year is considered one where students can explore their options more in-depth to see what electives they prefer.

year three (where we begin!) sees the the same four core classes, but electives are now available for choice. these can range from classes such as classic literature and anatomy to runes. students are required to pick at least one magical discipline for an elective. a student can opt out of physical education if participating in an approved sport. advisory is now once a month.

year four students continue on with the same mathematics and english track, but their other two core classes are changed. students are required to take a history class (world history, history of magic, etc) and science class (botany, alchemy, astronomy, etc) of their choice. a student can choose a phys ed class for their elective if they would like, but are no longer required to take the class. everything else remains the same.

year five students take the same mathematics track, and are now allowed to choose their preferred english class. a science class is a required course, but the remainder of periods are open to fill for credits requirements or electives. students meet with advisors and families to discuss future plans, and can be nominated for study-abroad programs.

year six students are required to take at least a minimum of four classes. a good handful of students choose to take this year to study abroad in different academies.

year seven sees the same process as year six, but students can choose to go out and shadow professionals in their field of choice to explore career options. at the end of the year, standardized tests are held to determine sufficient knowledge of magical and non-magical disciplines. the grades received are frequently used as part of applications to jobs or universities.
