This time, I thought I would try something different on the blog. Instead of doing a deep dive into one group, I’m doing shallow dives into a bunch of soloists and their first mini albums, then comparing and contrasting. This time is female soloists, from Red Velvet to Oh My Girl to LOONA. So, let’s get into it!

[ARTICLE] MAMAMOO Spoils Moomoos with a Night of Everlasting Fun and Laughter

Fans in Singapore enjoyed a night full of amazing performances and funny antics with MAMAMOO. MAMAMOO, consisting of members Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein and Hwasa, stopped by Singapore for their 2019 HELLO! MOOMOO Fan Meeting last Saturday night. It was a night of pure fun and entertainment, as Moomoos and MAMAMOO interacted and laughed their worries away!

The show kicked off with “Egotistic”, as MAMAMOO successfully led the crowd into a frenzy with the fast-paced and upbeat song! Everyone was excited as they sang along and waved their cute light sticks upon MAMAMOO’s arrival.

They moved on to perform “Wind Flower”, from their eighth EP (Extended Play), Blue;S. The four ladies were all clad in cute glittery outfits, their voices meshing amazingly well and getting Moomoos to sing along with them!

Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein and Hwasa stayed on the stage to introduce themselves with their signature “I say MAMA- MAMA- MOO~”, to which Moomoos replied with waves of cheers and shrieks. They then introduced themselves individually, and Hwasa’s introduction stood out the most because of the use of Singlish incorporated into her greeting.

“Hello Moomoo(s), I am Hwasa-lah,” she greeted everyone nonchalantly with a charming smile. To no surprise, she was bombarded with roaring screams from the enthusiastic crowd! Afterwards, MAMAMOO continued on with “Better Than I Thought” and “No More Drama”, before the start of the game segment.

During the game segment, MAMAMOO were split into two groups, Team MAMA and Team MOO. Moonbyul and Solar made up Team MAMA while Wheein and Hwasa made up Team MOO. Each team included two lucky Moomoos they had to choose from the crowd.

The game’s called “What Song Is It?”, in which each team had to guess the song that’s being played. However, the catch is that the song would only be played for 0.01 seconds! Fortunately, if both teams fail to guess the song on the first attempt, the song will be played again but for 0.02 seconds. The third attempt involved a random MAMAMOO member having to dance to the song.

It was a rollercoaster ride, but Team MOO won in the end and ended up taking a penalty! They had to do the “Backpack Kid” dance, looking silly yet cute as they swing their arms from the back of their body to the front, repeatedly. The next penalty was to do the “Oh Na Na” dance. Team MAMA danced enthusiastically as well even though the group won. Moonbyul was so excited that she ended up moonwalking backwards towards the end of the song!

The next segment’s called “MOOMOO Tree”, where MAMAMOO members had to pick the fan requests they want to fulfill, from a board full of post-it notes. The highlights of the segment have got to be whenWheein and Moonbyul danced together intimately to “Moderato”, and when Hwasa rapped Loco’s part 주지마 (Don’t Give)! Moomoos had a lot of fun as they laughed along to MAMAMOO’s antics.

The fan meeting continued with MAMAMOO performing more of their songs, such as “I Love You Too”, “Star Wind Flower Sun”, “Starry Night”, “GOGOBEBE” and “Yes I Am”. “GOGOBEBE”, is the group’s latest single, which was accompanied by crystal clear fan chants which probably dazzled MAMAMOO as well!

Out of the blue, a fanmade video appeared on the screen, surprising the four ladies onstage. It was a surprise tribute made by Singapore Moomoos! At the end of the video, a cake was brought out to celebrate Wheein’s birthday! It was made to resemble chicken feet (dakbal), which is Wheein’s favourite food. They were amazed at the likeness of the cake to the real thing.

After performing “Decalcomanie”, MAMAMOO went backstage for a while. All that could be heard at that moment were the sounds of fans chanting, “Encore! Encore!”, as they kept a lookout for any sign of MAMAMOO.

Finally, the four talented ladies appeared back on the stage, all dressed up in the traditional kebaya! Their beauty stunned everyone in the venue, who didn’t expect to see MAMAMOO in traditional clothing!

The last two songs that were performed were “Waggy” and “Um Oh Ah Yeh”. Solar, Wheein, Moonbyul and Hwasa interacted with fans during the performances, capturing hearts in the audience with every step they take.

Unfortunately, the fan meeting had to come to a close, to which Moomoos waved goodbye to the four beautiful ladies who had made their night. it was a night to remember, and we do hope that MAMAMOO will be able to come down to Singapore again in the future!

Mamamoo: K-pop Discography Deep Dive (Part ONE)

Mamamoo is considered an institution in k-pop, right up there with Red Velvet and TWICE, who all debuted around the same time, in the 2014-15 period that birthed so many classic girl groups. They have four members: Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa, who are all in their late 20’s / early 30’s now. Here are my credentials: I would consider myself a casual fan of Mamamoo. [COVERAGE] ‘Starry Night’ in Singapore with MAMAMOO for HELLO! MOOMOO 2019

Multi-talented girl-group quartet Mamamoo successfully wrapped up their fanmeet tour 'Hello!MooMoo' with Singapore being the very last stop before the girls take some time off for their well-deserved break! Not only that, the group also performed their latest release; GOGOBEBE overseas for the first time ever during the Singapore stop! Singapore MooMoos were definitely in for a treat that night, with the atmosphere alternating between high-energy dance numbers, and soothing ballads – all of which only proved that the girls are indeed all-rounders.

The fanmeet started off with one of their popular tracks; ‘Egoistic’! The fast paced song coupled with the dazzling outfits the girls wore definitely opened the show with a bang. This was followed with ‘Wind Flower’ before the girls took a short break to interact with fans. They shared that they were all extremely excited for the fanmeet in Singapore and the huge turnout for the fanmeet that night was a shocker for them! ​During the ment, they also shared that their latest title track (GOGOBEBE) is from the White album, which represents Wheein (Red: Moobyul, Blue: Solar, Yellow: Hwasa). Another huge takeaway from the session – Singapore MooMoos should keep their eyes peeled when the girls are on a long break because they are definitely open to the idea of spending time back on the sunny island!

They returned to stage with ‘Better Than I Thought’, and ‘No More Drama’, both songs showcasing the charismatic vocals of the individual members. The girls then switched back to playful mode for the game session, which entailed then having to guess the song title after 0.1second of the track is played. However, the fans were pleasantly surprised when 4 lucky audience members were handpicked individually by Mamamoo to join Team Moo (Wheein & Hwasa) or Team Mama (Solar & Moonbyul)! The confusion that followed shortly after definitely gave everybody a good laugh, especially when Moonbyul asked if the track played was their song. ​Hwasa tried to showcase her dance moves as a hint, but she forgot that those were her solo moves and not the signature moves for the track, causing everybody to crack up! Afterwhich, the members picked a post-it each from the MooMoo Tree, which comprised of sweet notes written by fans to the girls prior to the fanmeet.

The setlist continued with ‘Star Wind Flower Sun’, which was only the beginning of the atmosphere being heated up. The audience went wild when the introduction of the next track played over the speakers and the girls continued with ‘Starry Night’! Finally, it was the moment that MooMoos had all been waiting for, and Mamamoo brought the house down with their latest title track –GOGOBEBE! This was followed by the closing act for the night which was a classic hit; ‘Decalcomanie’ (Was this really the closing act though.. :D)

With encouragement from excited MooMoos, the quartet returned to stage for their encore, with ‘Waggy’ and ‘Um Oh Ah Yeah’! To top it off, the girls were dressed in colourful kebayas and sneakily included Singlish phrases instead of their usual adlibs. During their closing ment, they expressed how thankful they were to Singapore MooMoos for waiting for them so patiently, and that despite the distance, their hearts have always been with Singapore MooMoos. Those who didn’t manage to catch Mamamoo this time round, do not fret as the girls have promised that they would definitely be back here again for future shows!
