Mana'eesh Za'atar (with whole wheat flour)
These soft, pillowy wonders are popular in the middle east, and also often consumed for suhoor (meal before starting the fast). This whole wheat version is a healthier take on the traditional mana’eesh and keeps you full for longer. I first tried the traditional mana’eesh when were were visiting our family who are based in Saudi-Arabia. We had it during Ramadan along with hummus. Our family told…

Zaatar Factory & Bakery, 2909 N Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank, CA 91504
Tumblr media
Zaatar Factory & Bakery is a traditional Armenian bakery that opened 12 years ago. They have various kinds of bureks, manaeesh, lahmajune, khachapuri, manti, baklava, cookies, etc.
They also carry grocery store items like spices, coffee, condiments, pickles, tea, canned goods, halva, etc. The building looks older. There’s a refrigerator with hummus, desserts, drinks, etc.
Zaatar Cheese Sandwich ($6.99): fresh thin dough wrapped around a thick slab of feta with zaatar. The cheese was too thick.
Spicy cheese burek ($3.99): Thicker than average, flavor was good but it’s too thick
Veggie lahmanjun: finely diced mushrooms, red pepper paste spread on a thin flatbread with crisp edges – a nice alternative to the usual meat based lahmajun
#6 Wrap ($10.69?): It was huge – 14 inches. The manaishe was thicker than I’m used to. It was wrapped around fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and mint. The tomatoes were mealy. The wrap was too dry and heavy.
Prices were not posted on the menu or for the baked goods in the display cases. Online ordering is available. It’s a good idea to order online or call first because some items take awhile to make (like 20 minutes). Parking was easy to find as they’re in a strip mall with parking.
3 out of 5 stars

Aye aye 🫡🫡 you don’t have to answer all I just thought of multiple
1) when do you think James’ bday is? (Or if he shares a bday with his VA, which would be June 11? Can’t remember)
2) feeding the arab James HC what do you think his fav arab dish is?
3) how do you think the mfe’s first met? Maybe through the garrison, child hood friends, met each other through connections, etc
4) who proposes first? Keith or James 🤔
5) what do you think of James & Adam having a familiar relationship? Like adam is the closest thing to a decent father figure for James, etc
6) say an apology went down with keith and James in canon, how do you think itd go? Like did James approach first and do this whole thing and apologize to Keith (that he probably rehearsed moments before) etc!
Thank you for feeding me and I absolutely will answer all 6.
1.) AFIK James doesn't have a canon birthday so I hc his birthday as December 22nd. He 100% a Capricorn (sorry, I'm zodiac trash) with how much of a hard ass he is. There's also angst potential for having a birthday so close to a major U.S. holiday since everyone I know with a late December birthday has Big Feelings about having their birthday constantly overshadowed by Christmas. I also can't decide if I want to have James' family be religious and if so what religion (for the non-Arabs reading, yes, not all of us come from Muslim families, but also if you're Islamophobic I will steal your knee caps).
2.) I think his favorite would def be situational. I can see him really enjoying za'atar manaeesh at the Garrison since it's easy to make and the ingredients keep/aren't difficult to find when there's not a big Arab diaspora around. When he can get the ingredients and wants something comforting, I can also see him having stuffed kousa as a favorite. Of course, he also really enjoys all the typical meze foods like falafel, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, etc when he has someone to share it with.
3.) I think Keith would be the only person at the Garrison James knows from the past, but I imagine he made friends with the other MFEs rather quickly after they all started. I hc that James' dad was a dick about image and keeping good company. Because of that, I think James would try to befriend the other kids at the top of the class, but then genuinely made a connection with the rest of the MFEs. He's especially close with Kinkade, who he roomed with all four years at the Garrison.
4.) Keith. He knows he fucked up majorly the way he ghosted James. He also knows that in doing so reinforced James' trust issues and feelings of needing to be absolutely perfect to deserve love. After coming back and seeing just how deeply he hurt James, Keith swore he wouldn't ever hesitate with showing he loves James unconditionally and is committed to never leaving again. The second he's sure that he and James both want things to be long term, he buys the ring to be a physical representation of that.
5.) I can definitely see Adam picking up James as a protege and Shiro encouraging it behind the scenes. I think that, while he would never regret adopting Keith, he does feel a little bad that James really looked up to him and got dismissed because Keith needed Shiro's attention more. Adam, who already took interest in James' potential, offered a win-win situation for everyone involved.
6.) Though I hc the apology for mouthing off as taking place relatively soon after Keith decked James, I see it going down in canon a bit differently. I think in canon the implication is more so it happened off screen right after the paladins return to the Garrison. I think they both apologized to each other between the paladins showing up and the meeting where James goes off on Hunk.

za’atar is both a spice blend & a plant, origanum syriacum. it is a staple in palestinian households & has been found in it's spice blend form in archaeolgical evidence from 1300bce. it has been used as a remedy for cold & flu for generations, & is very often eaten with fresh bread & olive oil for breakfast. for palestinians it symbolises attachment to the land, especially since the occupation. palestinians have always grown & harvested za'atar, but a limit was established in 2005 because a settler started to grow it as a commercial crop. plants were conviscated at idf checkpoints the following year. harvesting za'atar is a cultural tradition & one day palestinians will freely return to it. you can buy za'atar as seeds (x, x, x) or as seedlings. it loves well-drained soil & sun, hates wet feet, is resistant to disease/pests & grows like crazy.
za'atar mix, from yaffa.co.uk

We kind of burned it a bit, but they were tasty. I'll do better next time.
One of the manaeesh has za'atar and olive oil. The rest are fiesta blend cheese with za'atar.
We followed May Yacoubi's recipe.

I made a whole bunch of manaeesh this weekend, to have for lunch. This one has pesto, mozzarella, fried onions and garlic, and sautéed zucchini.
It's almost like a personal pizza, but the dough is much better!

Improved Market Stalls 1.0
Over time, EA added a variety of regional recipes and market stalls — except they didn't care to integrate any of them.  This mod fixes that.  Initially, this mod was just going to focus on the missing recipes, but as there are multiple market stalls (even non-food ones) that could use improving, this mod was built from ground-up to be expansible.
The first release of this mod focuses on the above problem. Dishes that were added via SDX and updates were added to their respective food stalls, as well as recipes from other packs (looking at you, Weddinhg Stories).
[*] indicates that the recipe module is required

City Living
Wedding Stories provided us with new Chinese and Indian recipes and, while City Living recipes were available at the Tartosa food stalls, Wedding Stories recipes were not. Additionally, the developers seemed to have missed the Vegetarian Butter Chicken recipe and the Lunar New Year SDX recipes were nonexistent.
Snow Escape came with a wide variety of Japanese recipes.  For the sake of brevity, I only added food types that are not already repesented in the menu (Maki, Onigri, Yakisoba) and a vegetarian option for one already represented (Ramen).
The Mexican food stall has some recipes from Jungle Adventures and the Latin American cuisine SDX.  As I am not Mexican, I had to do research to confirm if a recipe was in Mexican cuisine and I welcome feedback from more knowledgable Simmers.
Similarly, the Morrocan food stall has recipes from Discover University and the Arabic cuisine SDX.  I welcome feedback from anyone more knowledgeable on Moroccan cuisine.
Chinese
Chicken Stir-fry*, Minced Pork Noodles*, Rice Cake*, Steamed Fish*
Wedding Stories: Mud Carp, Roast Duck, Sweet Buns, Vegetable Dumplings
Indian
Vegetarian Butter Chicken*
Wedding Stories: Butter Chicken, Dal Makhani, Gulab Jamun, Palak Paneer
Japanese
Snowy Escape: Avacado Maki, Tuna Maki, Onigri, Miso Ramen, Beef Yakisoba, Veggie Yakisoba
Mexican
Chili, Chips and Salsa*, Elote*, Pan de Muerto*, Fish Tacos, Tofu Tacos
Jungle Adventure: Bunuelos, Empanadas Verde, Platanos Fritos
Luxury Party: Ceviche*
Morrocan
Knafeh*, Zaatar Manaeesh*
Get Together: Pita and Hummus Tapas*
Discover University: Fattoush Salad, Tabbouleh Salad, Shish Kebabs, Beef Wrap, Chicken Wrap, Falafel Wrap
Discover University
As the kebab stall seemed to be more of a pan-Arabic cuisine, I did not add the Moroccan dishes from City Living.
Kebabs
Knafeh*, Zaatar Manaeesh*
Get Together: Pita and Hummus Tapas*
Snowy Escape
City Living's selection of Japanese recipes is heavily limited in comparasion with Snowy Escape's, so there weren't many recipes added to the menu.  For consistency's sake, I only added recipes already represented on the menu.
In addition, the Festival of Light has Pufferfish Nigiri.
Traditional
City Living: Dango, Nigiri
Mountain Food
City Living: Dango, Ramen
Festival of Light
City Living: Dango, Nigiri, Pufferfish Nigiri
Festival of Youth
City Living: Dango, Nigiri
Festival of Snow
City Living: Dango, Nigiri, Ramen
Jungle Adventure
The food stall for Jungle Adventure appeared to be pan-South American, so I included all the recipes from the Latin American cuisine update and the Brazilian cuisine update, including drinks.  It did not seem to include Mexican recipes, so only one recipe from City Living (Empanadas) was added.
As Sims tend to waste food when they get the "Overwhelming Flavor" buff, I suggest my Don't Waste Food mod.
Food
Acaraje*, Asado*, Brigadiero*, Chimis*, Chimichurri Skewers*, Chripan*, Churrasco*, Hallacas*, Pinchos*, Pollo a la Brasa*
City Living: Empanadas
Luxury Party: Ceviche
Drinks
Caiprinha*, Coquito*
Wedding Stories
As mentioned above, Wedding Stories stalls already integrated City Living recipes into their menu.  I only needed to add the recipes from the Lunar New Year update and the Vegetarian Butter Chicken.
Chinese
Chicken Stir-fry*, Minced Pork Noodles*, Rice Cake*, Steamed Fish*
Indian
Vegetarian Butter Chicken*
Growing Together
This one was slightly harder to choose for as it's essentially a sampling of multiple cuisines.  I didn't want to flood the menus with every regional recipe available, I decided to go with a recognizable recipe from each of these cuisines: Brazilian, Korean, Middle Eastern, and Polynesian.
I plan to update this stall continuously as EA adds more recipes.
Around the World
Aracaje*, Japchae*
Island Living: Poke Bowl
Discover University: Shish Kebabs
