This piece is called Exterminate!; it is a DeviantArt friend's Predator character I drew back in 2010. She left me a wide field to play in; she just wanted her character to be fighting some kind of monster. I pinged on "blue-ringed octopus", so here we are. Those arms and tentacles were a whole lot of fun.

I used ink, watercolor, and Prismacolor pencils.

CONCEPT ART TIME!

Now that the comic’s out, I can finally reveal all the cool concept art that I did before and throughout the process! :DD!!!

This first board is the original concept! An incredibly fucked-up anatomy trip. I designed super complex, alien mandibles with three joints each for… whatever reason. I didn’t reference insects in this one, which is rather silly of me because they have all the cool mandibles! (p.s. - if you’re interested in cool weird anatomy, and you’re not freaked out by close-up’s of insects, go look up insect mandibles!!!!)

While I enjoyed designing this, I feel like the final version fit her much better. still looks cool though :)

This second concept board was developed when I hit an art block on the “reveal” panels of the comic. It was also a good way to figure out what the hell I was doing!

Each face model has two different mandible styles to conserve space. The final design has an expanded movement range compared to the others, and can somewhat function as a second pair of hands!!!

I have to say this turned out quite well! I am especially fond of the top right image. Concept art is very enjoyable for me, and I love talking about the process!! :]

Meet my Predator OC, Chaunn. I drew this back in 2005, when I was up to my eyebrows in Predator lore. I didn't RP very much, but I did write some fan fiction in the early AvP universe that had evolved from the Dark Horse comics and novels.

I won't bore you silly with a lot of background on this character. She's the Predator equivalent of an FBI agent, with heavy X-Files influence and Cthulhu Mythos sprinkles on top. Her ship is intelligent, sarcastic, and is probably a Cybertronian. Her protege is a xenolinguist/xeno-archaeologist (with Indiana Jones undertones), and he has a pet pfaukal, which is a large catlike creature I designed as a comic foil and plot element.

I made this with ink, watercolor (totally overlaid), and Prismacolor pencil.
