The Mandalorian (2019-Present) + Book of Boba Fett (2022)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Character: Din Djarin (The Mandalorian)
Attributes: Introverted, honorable, paternal, stoic
Favorite Quote: “If you put one mark on him there’s no place you will be able to hide from me.”
I absolutely adore this series and have been dying to review it! Not only is it a great show but it has to be Pedro’s most enduring and iconic role. The series is about a lone Mandalorian during the aftermath of the Empire’s fall and his bounty hunting adventures. But when he’s given a bounty for a young, gifted child he breaks all the rules— to protect and save him from the Empire, then return him to the Jedi, with whom he belongs.
What makes Din Djarin work so well is his tightly signature look, you know that helmet and armor anywhere, and Pedro’s perfect voice work. I for one fell in love with the character from the beskar armor alone, it just looks so cool. The team behind its design are actual geniuses. And then mix that with a deep, coarse voice (or bedroom voice as Pedro calls it lol)— pulled off brilliantly by our boi and you have a perfect recipe for a mysterious cowboy archetype that’s impossible not to root for. I don’t know if Pedro has a thing for cowboys and westerns or if it’s just a recurring coincidence, but he’s done this type of role almost as much as his father figure types.
Another thing that’s so unique to this character is that you’d expect him to be badass and adept at everything, but he makes mistakes, miscalculates and is beaten on multiple occasions. It was a smart decision as it makes him grounded and realistic, just like the show itself (I mean as realistic as you can get in Star Wars) It's equally enduring how Din isn’t proud or cocky, but quietly confident and willing to accept help and friendship when necessary. Yet the best aspect of this character, by far, is that while he’s a stoic and powerful fighter he’s also such a kind hearted protagonist because of the adorable bond he shares withThe Child/Grogu. The softness Din’s love for his adoptive son brings to the Manadalorian is so special and Pedro’s inexplicable mastery of father figure roles brings it to life in such a great way! (this is dad role #5)
While I want to give credit to Pedro for the subtle physical performance as Mando, I actually don’t know how much it’s him or another actor. But regardless it all works together seamlessly, making it highly intriguing to read and interpret his every head tilt or body posture. And when we finally do see Din’s face Pedro’s ridiculously expressive eyes/face bring the character together full circle. He’s just as soft and introverted as we have been led to believe and even better, he’s emotional and vulnerable too.
My favorite scene is when Din has to say goodbye to Grogu, after finding a Jedi master to train him, and he takes off his helmet (and in doing so forfeiting his creed to never remove it😭) Pedro’s acting is off the charts; the way he talks, the expressions and the tears in his eyes…it’s just perfection. If you can tell this is my most beloved Pedro Pascal role and I’m so happy it’s this character that brought our internet daddy fully into the spotlight!

Moments like these

Because I miss these two like crazy and was in the mood to write some fluff, here’s a Mandalorian and Grogu fanfic!!! (Takes place sometime between the book of Boba Fett and the Mandalorian season 3)
The Mandalorian had taken off his beskar armor (with his helmet still on of course) and was knelt on the floor, working on fixing up his armor. They had landed the starship on a more deserted terrain so they wouldn’t be likely to be run in on by anyone unwanted. His armor, luckily didn’t get damaged much, or else he’d have to get a knew set. It was mainly dirty and needed cleaning.
He worked silently, trying to get dirt that got caked on it. He was so deep into what he was doing he didn’t notice Grogu, who had approached him to see what his father figure was doing. He saw an armorless back and curiously approached. He poked a tiny hand at the Mandalorians exposed side and he yelped, turning around.
“Oh… it’s just you kid.” He said, with a sigh of relief. The child made small sounds of happiness to see his friend.
As Mando turned away from him to work. He suddenly felt another poke in his side, flinched and turned around. He could swear he saw a mischievous glint in the kids eyes. “Kid what are you… HEY!” He yelped when the kid suddenly leapt onto him, using the force to jump high enough to reach the Mandalorian, just like his master Luke had taught him.
“K-Kid.. hehehey stohop!” He protested through light giggles when the kid wiggled his tiny fingers against the olders exposed chest. The Mandalorian tried to pull him off but the kid had a surprisingly strong grip on his shirt. Grogu slipped further down, now at level with Mandos belly, he began digging his tiny hands around into the unarmored squishy area that was his midsection. The Mandalorian arched his back and then finally fell back into loud and uncontrollable cackles.
Any chance he had at fighting back was lost, as the sensations were taking over his entire body and making it difficult for him to do anything but grip onto Grogu. After a while of this, Grogu finally stopped, sensing that Mando was having difficulties breathing.
“W-What was that?” He asked the kid. Grogu just giggled and tried to scurry away. But the Mandalorian was quicker of course, and grabbed him. “Oh you wanna play do you? See how you like it!” He said as he cradled the kid in his arms and began to wiggle his fingers into the kids own belly, causing the kid to erupt into bubbly giggles as he curled himself into the large hand. The laughter was infectious and soon the Mandalorian was laughing himself.
It was days like this that the Mandalorian appreciated, because Mando never had this much fun before he met the kid. And he knew he’d remember it forever.

I also taunted Bo Katan with the Darksaber, got chased by R2-D2, and almost had Grogu stolen by a jawa. It was awesome. I had so much fun!
