we need to talk about the conversation between Jesus and Lazarus because this is one of those occasions where the show gets Jesus's dialogue right; everything Jesus is portrayed to say in that conversation is natural; but it's directly based on how the scripture says he felt about things. His apostles not understanding and his frustration that he already told them.

And we need to talk about Lazarus too and the layers of meaning communicated when Lazarus realizes Jesus is telling him he's about to die but he admits he doesn't want to hear it - not because he doesn't trust God's plan! But because he doesn't want to see Jesus suffer and die because he's his childhood friend!! The absolute manylayered and strange relationship of a man who realizes that his childhood friend is the incarnation of God!! And the fact that not even his own death seemed to disturb him on a spiritual level as being part of God's plan, but this does. That while everyone else is agonizing about theodicy Lazarus is happy as a clam to be alive, and he is reasonably content that he might die for Jesus but doesn't know what to do with the idea that Jesus might die for him...

As a supposed "new fan," I'd love to know the history of how the fandom reacted to Gamzee fans circa 2013. Who were the big pushers of that hatred towards them that weren't just Hussie (perhaps BNFs and friend-writers-employees of hers)?

sorry god himself could not make me invite that kind of discussion onto this blog <3 i dont think its relevant nowadays Who was pushing it unless you were there. as far as like climate at large though, early homestuck fandom had very very heavily bought in to hussies persona of smartest guy you know whos bigoted writing was totally actually intentional tongue in cheek injections you were supposed to read as ironic. which like sure they certainly Tried to do that sometimes and we can argue back and forth all day about the validity of "ironic" bigotry and whether it is comparable to "genuine" bigotry, who is allowed to say what, whatever. but it created a space where genuine critique, especially critique that was focused on social issues ESPECIALLY any social issues that could be linked to the accursed SJWs sweeping the internet with their extremist inclusionism, was discouraged and the method was largely to insist people were actually too stupid or bad faith to Get homestuck. been called a bad survivor sooo many a times in this space for caring about the irredeemable clown. that mixed with both that ever present self aggrandizing intellectualism hussie oozed + presented as the goal within this fandom, and ofc with his own insertion Into that fandom as its creator ended up building just an extremely shitty parasocial climate full of people that cared a lot more about dunks and being "right" (as decided by hussies characterizations and what he openly mocked) than they did about like.... not opening people who wanted to have conversations they did not like up to harassment. im not saying its an entirely alien space compared to the general hierarchical nature of fandomspace, but that level of interference from an author who was also very invested in seeming very cool and smart and unaffected at the expense of the crazy emotional freaks he could scapegoat to further that image AND avoid accountability for his writing decisions just.... sucked! ok im tired and theres always manylayers to this, idk if that was clear tldr it doesnt matter much anymore i just wish we fuckin learned something!

hey it wasn't just me right Beau was definitely heartseyeing at Nott

Okay, anon, I’m gonna be real with you, I don’t know what this ask is referring to. Its been sitting in my inbox for... a while. I realized it was there one day and I was like “I don’t know what this is referring to, I should find out.” and then I just.. I never figured it out and my hellbrain completely forgot about it and I went on hiatus so! im real sorry about that. I think this was somewhere in the 70s but I don’t have much beyond that, so i’m just going to answer this to the best of my knowledge and also talk about Beau and Nott because I find them fascinating.

If by heartseyeing you mean like, aggressive affection Beau eyes, then yeah! Maybe! Probably! Beau loves people and Beau also loves members of the M9 very much. If you mean romantically, probably not! Not because Nott isn’t extremely magnetic and fascinating in her own right but more because I think despite her (now dwindling! we’re proud of her) asshole-exterior, Beau very much respects boundaries of like. “I have a partner.” and Nott has a full on husband and child. Also, they don’t really seem to be each others type, romantically.

HOWEVER

they DO have a tendency for very intense conversations, so maybe thats what you’re referring to? I really love that about them, actually. Back earlier in the campaign, I was always of the opinion that there was a certain similar thread to them; a sort of shamelessness about acting their worst qualities (one that Fjord didn’t have). 

Like, don’t get me wrong, much of it is very much a front for Beau (as we now know), in which she acts out her worst qualities to preempt people calling her out. But even if it comes from a pretty unhealthy place, there is a kind of honesty/self awareness in that, thats shared with Nott. I don’t remember where the last time I said this was but: Nott, even before she got goblinified, was always a bit of an oddball, and feels no reason to curb her oddities for those she doesn’t care about, and this trait was HEAVILY amplified in her goblin self. 

So- this is just a hunch on my part: I think that when they hang out there’s a sort of freedom there, a small lack of the self moderation/trying to be better, which leads to 1- honesty, and 2- alcohol (which also leads to honesty) which means we can get SUPER intense talks. There’s definitely more to be said about their relationship in general but I think that that alone can account for heartseyeing? (other than: sometimes Beau just has a very intense gaze).

(Anyway, thats also why im a little curious to see how Nott and Beau react /now/, after it is clear what Beau was willing to give up for Nott, also because their relationship is manylayered and interesting even if they don’t interact super regularly.)
