very funny to me that valentino basically established marc as this omnipotent devil incarnate boogeyman rider and that’s the version of him he presented to the academy boys and now they suffer from the consequences of his actions. valentino once again creating a self-fulfilling prophecy (likely place for him to be)

sometimes i just say stuff and then you guys are like “yeah!!!” and im like. pause. we fuck with this? we fuck with marc/ago 70s shenanigans??? for real?
#i do love this place#me like okay what if old man giacomo agostini carefully kissed a 32 year old boy genius pressed against a mesh fence his folded arms#between them unfolding the visor of his cap sticking up to the sky his lovely mouth making a pleased little sound#bc old man giacomo agostini feels like he’s 32 himself somehow. when he sees the boy wonder now…#make me feel young again etc etc etc make me feel alive with this#what a bright wicked smile he has. always has been able#to wrap one around his finger ago knows it’s been like that since he showed up#not as insolent as valentino. not as obviously carelessly fixed on the idea of his own superiority#just a boy then who wanted nothing but to win again and again and again and isn’t that the one thing connecting them all…#but now… ‘if we don’t go back soon we might get in trouble’ marc says. as if ‘we’ isn’t himself only.#but like this is sounds like they are in this together. kids sneaking around. ago feels so bloody young today. been a while.#’scared of getting caught?’ he murmurs and marc laughs and then says ‘no.’ and it’s the truth. for once it’s obvious.#and then marc leans in and says ‘one for the road’ and it’s blasphemous how good he is. like he knows something about ago no one else does.#lasts a while that one and then they walk back side by side and marcs mouth is shiny with spit bc he keeps running his tongue along#and ago has to work sooooo hard not to stretch out a hand to hold onto him. he wants to. needs to really. but marc walks like he doesn’t#notice though he must. it’s like a magnetic field something you cannot really fight. ago remembers marc on his knees for him 40#years ago almost to the day and skips wondering how that’s possible to wonder how to get marc alone somewhere private#been a while. since he felt that wild. he feels so bloody young today. like a caged animal. before he can open his mouth marc says ‘later’#and leaves him with a hug that feels exactly as it always used to and nothing like it whatsoever#ANYWAY IDK#SOMEONE STOP ME BEFORE I W#FUCK WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! c#anyway yeah cool whatever why are you guys fucking with this#match voice how old can we make them before marc’s charm loses its effect the answer is every italian man ever wants to fuck marc marquez

Guys bear with me on this but Marc may have singlehandedly blocked 4/5 academy riders from being on Ducatis next year and I think it’s so funny.
Marc leaves Honda meaning Luca takes his opportunity to be a factory rider and gets on the Honda (1 academy member down)
Marc gets the factory Ducati ride starting a domino effect of Bezz to Aprilia (2 academy members down + Martin, Maverick and Enea as collateral)
Marc gets the factory ride so Pramac, and therefore Franky, go (back) to Yamaha (3 academy down)
Marc causes Pramac to go to Yamaha, meaning there are 2 less Ducatis, so Aldeguer goes to VR46 to replace Bezzecchi, meaning Cele/Franky have been blocked from a Ducati ride (4 academy down)
Pecco needs to watch his back because he’s next at this rate…

Another one just bcs look at the hattt and also they coordinate their polos lmfao
Omg yes yes yes!!! Your brain is amazing aidkaiisaks
This is totally what I was envisioning, like the dumbfordumb interaction that these two have is impeccable and the are totally the maried couple that has to be the "mentors" when they still don't understand how they maried each other, it was probably a drunk marriage in Vegas because Dani was going all bridezilla and JLo wanted a break. And yes I totally endorse the message that they are that type of insufferable couple that has matching outfit for everything.

Discussion:
Since there were so little motogp fics in the first few years, some of the ships in the top 5 were there because of a single writer. So it does not always reflect the fandom's opinions of the ships. For example, all of the Alex/Dani and Alex/Jorge fics were written by the same person (at the time. There are new ones).
It also shows how a ship being popular for a short time can have lasting effects on the all-time rank. Maverick/Fabio being an example of this as they are still in the top 5 overall, despite only being in the top 5 of the yearly rank twice.

"So far, the world championship can be said to be the sole stage of Marc Marquez. Although he retired in the third round at the Americas Grand Prix, he won the sprint race for the third consecutive race, and won the final race in two of the three races [up to that point]. As seen in the Sunday race of the Americas Grand Prix, it seems that no one can compete with him unless he makes a mistake." "However, I feel that there is an indescribable, disturbing, dark side to the excellent Marquez. Francesco Bagnaia has reportedly doubts about the new Desmosedici GP25 used by the official Ducati team." "It's primarily an engine braking problem. To improve engine performance, the latest Desmosedici GP25 has drastically reduced friction losses (power loss due to frictional resistance). However, the more friction is eliminated, the weaker the engine braking becomes, and it seems Bagnaia isn't achieving the engine braking he's looking for. To solve this problem, the GP25 adjusts inertia by adjusting the flywheel weight. This provides a good balance between the boost effects and engine braking. It's a version known as the 'GP24.9', which is neither the latest nor last year's model." "It's only a temporary solution. For regulatory reasons, the engine itself cannot be modified. As for Bagnaia, he would love to return to the GP24, considered a masterpiece, so he's in a very difficult situation." "The problem here is the presence of Marquez. He said: 'Losses? What's that? No problem,' riding the GP25 and getting bang bang results. With that in the face, Bagnaia is also trying to somehow follow suit. As a result, the engine problem that the GP25 originally had will not be seen as a problem." "Does this story look familiar? Yes, one seems to be watching the reproduction of Marquez + RC213V of the Honda era. Marquez, who has the highest riding ability, can ride at a ridiculous speed on any machine. Riding beyond the machine’s original capabilities is his true essence." "At first glance, it seems fantastic, but when the bike is pushed to 120% of its capacity, it’s easy for engineers to lose sight of the right direction. It becomes difficult to understand the 'true 100% value' of the machine that was created. The result at Honda was an extremely unique bike, one that could only be ridden well by one man at 120%, namely Marc Márquez." "The Ducati’s current strength is its versatility, which means that anyone can ride it well, within certain limits. That's why many Ducati riders are getting good results, and it's common for the Ducati to monopolise the top positions. With Márquez at 120% going out and causing a rampage on track, even if the bike isn't particularly good, it might be overlooked, and become impossible for an average rider to ride it, only become rideable by the genius himself." "If Marc Márquez continues getting good results with the GP25, the engineers might think that's the best version of the bike. This could make Bagnaia's life quite complicated. Besides, the satellite teams would be forced to use the GP25 in 2026, and they'd probably say, 'Oh no! I'm worried about next year!'"

really conflicted about these revelations concerning jorge martin's personal politics. i hope it's not too obvious that i'm a big fan of his, and have been for some time.
i remember his scandal regarding the homophobic phrase he used on El Hormiguero late last year, but he issued an apology and seems to have legitimately changed; at least, he's not publicly using bigoted language anymore. but waving a nationalist flag with ties to the spanish far right is much harder to parse. is he a fascist? is he just ignorant, and is that any better? do i renounce him and find some other favorite? it's unrealistic to expect any rider to be an unproblematic saint, but fans can still hold riders accountable by withdrawing support. but then, if i rescind my support of jorge, the question stands why i don't just quit giving money to motogp altogether, as i am very aware of the labor exploitation and enviromental damage bound up in the sport. how do we as fans decide our tolerance limit for bigotry, nationalism and ignorance, with the understanding that we're watching a straight white male dominated sport? what and who do we forgive?
this isn't the first time riders have been exposed for their unsavory beliefs. in 2014 marc marquez sold tshirts emblazoned with racist caricatures at the japanese gp. carlo pernat, who has managed enea bastianini, tony arbolino and plenty others is an openly despicable human being with a penchant for bragging about his solicitation of prostitutes.
Tumblr media
the above quote is from a La Reppublica article which itself is pulling from statements pernat made on italian radio show La Zanzara.
there are likely plenty more cases none of us know about, like the anonymous statements published in this 2015 motorsport magazine article:
Tumblr media
what do we do about this? the last thing we should do is remain silent and apathetic towards hatred in racing paddocks, but how do we as viewers effectively make change? these are not rhetorical questions; i don't want to support a series that is this polluted with prejudice and think we should all work to make the sport better.

Yes please! Absolutely tell me about your abo sic fic.
Oh hiiii anon.
Gonnacry you guys are all so nice to me wtf 😭😭😭
Probs last one for tonight cause I wanna actually write some of this down!!!!
Firstly thank you for taking the time.
Secondly, shall we delve a little more into Marc's prognosis??
So, underlying obvious pack rejection and a lack of reassurance and touch an omega needs.
Let's add onto that mate rejection- Marc and Vale had been sleeping together, not quite mated but it was defo on Marc's mind at least, someone left me a very very interesting ask about imprinting which I will come to soon (tomorrow maybe).
Now all of this has caused years of isolation, so marc has this pick empty cavern inside him, which is meant to be filled with pack. Now ofc it wouldn't be marc if he didn't ignore all of this. So, it's only when it gets bad, really bad that marc accepts it.
Time skip, 2025, valentino goes to some reporter and is being a dick
"I wouldn't want an omega like marquez in my pack".
VALENTINO WHY (I can hear the frustration now)
Now this is what causes marcs downward soiral. Something splinters in him at the words. The next day, he feels off. Over the coming months, he gets weaker and weaker. Coughing with flu like symptoms. They run every test they can think of - no avail.
Marc is suffering now, struggling to get through races with throwing up, sprinting to the bathroom whenever he races or comes close to the others (cause the symptoms get worse when he breaks valentinos command). He's dizzy and out of it most of the time.
People are becoming worried. Marc is not having fun.
Finally, finally. He finds a doctor who knows. (I'm still unsure if I wanna write this or have it unknown)
He's diagnosed with severe pack rejection and omega withdrawal (or something to that effect- idk how to word). Also his "omega" is suffering!!!! So bad, it fels rejected and abandoned.
They tell Marc he has to stop. Come of suppressants. Marc is like absolutely fucking not.
Marcs almost clinched the championship. He's not giving up now. They tell him his body will give up soon. The two sides of him are at war, and it can't be kept up. People on the grid are beginning to notice now. Pecco, Bez, Dani (testing etc), and Pol (commentating).
Marc is stumbling when he gets off the bike. His nose is bleedin. He's throwing up always. He's pale and frail, and just looks sick.
He somehow, somehow (?) Wins the race... and promptly passes out the minute he's off the bike.
I need you all to imagine the reactions because im loving the idea of everyone just panicking. Marc deserves people outwardly worrying.
Bonus points for dovi telling everyone to back off??? Cradling Marc to his chest??
Much to think about. Hmmmmm....

sooooo this is the translation for the icon interview with Pecco and a bit of Enea + (my little notes) (for @vr46ridersacademyofficial and whoever wants to read about pecco being a neurotic bestie and a "true rock" nerd)
Tumblr media
Genius and moderation: Francesco Bagnaia’s winning qualities. He’s the champion who says about himself that he’s shy (and that already sounds like an oxymoron); then you see him race, and you ask yourself if he hadn't been just joking…
To win a MotoGP world championship, the highest class of motorcycle racing, you need a lot of talent, to win two of them, and one after the other even, you need to be extraordinary.
The third centaur who was able to do something like that is Francesco Pecco Bagnia (don't pretend you don't know who I'm talking about!). The third after Valentino Rossi, his idol and mentor, and Marc Marquez, his next year teammate in Ducati. And, because the hunger comes while eating (lol that's prob just an Italian idiom and it means that when you start to eat you start to get more hungry too, so winning is making him more hungry for more victories), Pecco is trying to do the same this year with the new Desmosedici GP24.
Tumblr media
“Motivation is not something I’ll ever be lacking” says Pecco wearing the new glasses carrera Ducati (lol)
When I asked him to draw an imaginary identikit about himself to start our interview he replied: “I’m shy, very determined and an hard worker”. You can feel all of his Savoy (i guess coz he’s from the Savoy region but idk its more of a stereotype for people in the north of italy, being serious and quiet) essence - a mix of being a very private person, and also respectful and polite - that’s his own signature “ethics/moral code" and style. “It’s difficult for me to clash or argue with someone. If I’m angry or annoyed or nervous I keep that inside of me.” That's true in the paddock and outside.
Tumblr media
Who better than him is the opposite of the cliche “to be a pilot you must be crazy”?
“Being lucid is the most important thing in this type of sport. The instinct can make you go fast, and maybe there’s a bit of madness, but during the race, everything you do has to be calculated, and every decision is considered and thoroughly thought through. Nothing is left to chance. And seeing red on track/not being lucid is what makes you do mistakes.”
Most people would think you have to live a life full of sacrifices to become a champion, but Francesco lives that life differently. “Everything I’ve ever done, I’ve done it cause I wanted to, I’ve never missed out on anything, not really. I’ve chosen to go train on track instead of going out with my friends most of the time, but it’s because I truly believe you’ll always have time to do all the other things you want to do.”
Tumblr media
Respected by everyone in the paddock, Pecco is also praised by Enea Bastianini, his colleague and teammate, also born in 1997 but nearly 12 months after Francesco.
“He has the type of determination and awareness that when he decides to do something he’ll go and get it. On a more technical side, his braking is super effective with the types of tyres we’re using.”
Their relationship is really good and Pecco says “Enea is one of my many rivals. The only ally I have on track is myself: I motivate and help myself”- he displays a strong sense of duty and responsibility- “cause I’m also the most self-critical person in the world.”
And maybe it is this moderation (I guess she’s talking about the self-criticism bit) that becomes a strength for the natural-born rider Pecco.
Tumblr media
Francesco Bagnaia is cast in the same mold as another Italian sports prodigy ( shes trying to say the have similar vibes lol) Jannik Sinner, and not coincidentally Pecco is also a big fan of Jannik (he also carries Juventus in his heart, and he received a personalized jersey in December from the club).
“(Sinner) appears as a very “clean” person, it makes you want to support him. I’ve always loved tennis and thanks to him I’ve become an even bigger fan. I play tennis especially during the winter, I take classes three times a week”
Francesco always brings the same things to all of his races and most between the all: “Socks just under the calf, however it has nothing to do with superstition” and also music.
“I listen to music as soon as I wake up. I love old rock, the true rock. Favourite rock group? Led Zeppelin, of course, and I also really like Greta van Fleet.”
Tumblr media
Around the circuits, his sister Carola, assistant and media manager, follows him like a shadow.
“I would like Domizia with me at races more often, her presence is a necessity for me.” Pecco and Domiziaa are gonna be married in a handful of hours (July 20) after seven years of engagement: “Organizing the wedding was easy: there is no comparison with the World Championship. Maybe Domizia thinks differently about it.”
What does Francesco Bagnaia see in his future? “A successful career and a large family. And still riding a prototype bike: if not until I’m 37, the goal is at least 35.”

Thank you for typing all that out!!!! I was like they had beef??? But it makes sense. I was listening to Casey on the gypsy tale podcast, he mentioned how he was envious of Marc/Vale who had no fear of the track. Makes sense that Marc - the limit of the bike is when I crash - and him would clash even if it wasn't malicious or personal.
(about this) haha no problem! and yeah for sure I don't think it's anything particularly malicious and it's not even BEEF as much as a low-level grudge, the kind of thing that naturally bubbles up when you have athletes' egos existing within a team structure. though I do think the stuff you mention (ie marc's approach to the sport) is something that never did become much of an issue between the two of them, but only because... well they weren't on-track rivals
ofc that's one of motogp's biggest 'what ifs' - what if we'd actually seen casey and marc compete - so none of this is particularly original, but, look, it's a fun one to discuss! casey's for the most part been pretty schtum about marc's actual races and various controversies, but has on occasion mentioned not necessarily being the biggest fan of marc's approach, eg (from 2013):
Tumblr media
the "humiliate them" bit is most interesting to me - does feel a similar vibe to some of his complaints about valentino's propensity for mind games. the implications of marc wanting to humiliate opponents would be that for marc, it's not just about just wanting to win, it's about what effect he's having on rivals, about wanting to mess with them
so I - like everyone else - can only IMAGINE what it would've been like if casey had actually had to live the full marc marquez experience. it's a respectful relationship irl because it's a rivalry that never actually got to play out, so casey doesn't have any real motivation to criticise marc much beyond low stakes honda hijinks. and marc probably would have enjoyed getting the chance to race casey, but from casey's side? eh
obviously casey's issues with valentino's riding standards are pretty well-documented (as well as his issues with other rivals, including a younger jorge) (and various somewhat less significant figures, like him and his buddy in 125cc giving alex de angelis the truly terrible nickname of 'alex dangerous'. casey please). marc is relentlessly aggressive in a way casey would not have enjoyed at all, and would've also objected to on grounds of principle. the fearlessness thing you mention from that very very long podcast episode is interesting to me, because yes casey would have liked to emulate that in some ways... but he does also have his issues with riders who ride without fear to the extent that they don't care about their own safety. from his autobiography, explaining his increasing disillusionment with MotoGP:
The most fitting tribute to [Simoncelli's] memory shouldn't have been a plaque by the side of the track where he lost his life, but a real change in the way riders respect each other and respect the limits. Unfortunately, I don't feel that this happened. I have always been very aware of what can happen in this sport, which is why I have always shown respect to my fellow racers. You might not like the person next to you on the grid but you have to be aware that if an accident happens, anyone can be hurt or killed. Sometimes young riders are so desperate to win that they forget what's most important. They get built up so much that they start to believe the hype, they feel invincible. Nobody is, especially in bike racing. And if a rider doesn't care about his own safety then it stands to reason he doesn't care about anybody else's either. Don't get me wrong, MotoGP is as safe as it has ever been in terms of the gravel traps, circuit layouts and rider equipments, but the fact that certain riders were still putting others at risk even after Marco's death bothered me a lot.
which, yup, can't see casey being a fan of marc. he's got some very ironclad beliefs when it comes to riding standards and the importance of rivals respecting each other and what that looks like on track in terms of hard racing - it's just an outlook and approach that would always have clashed with marc's. (also, yeah, like casey admits, it does just scare him! laguna seca 2008 wasn't fun for him because he was worried about his safety! which is entirely understandable, but I can't imagine if that's the case he'd feel particularly comfortable or indeed safe racing marc marquez.) on marc's side, even in 2013 he was pretty good at shrugging off these kind of critiques from his rivals, including ofc from dani and especially jorge that year. so maybe it'd be mostly one-way antipathy, but probably not all that pleasant for anyone involved. livio suppo said back in 2020 that casey would've suffered a lot from marc's personality, and also in 2023 said this:
Tumblr media
I don't really agree with suppo about 2008 and it does lean into the frustrating trope (which casey also chafed against in his autobiography) that seeks to explain all of casey's struggles and defeats by what was going on in his head. like, I do think he would've done a good job fighting marc! he would've won plenty of their duels, even when they were fighting wheel-to-wheel! he did say repeatedly after laguna seca 2008 that if something like that happened again, he wouldn't roll over for valentino (unfortunately we never really had the chance to properly test this but oh well)! he just wouldn't have enjoyed it, which is kinda why he retired in the first place
basically, they respect each other just fine because they never had the chance to fight on track. if they HAD fought on track, things would've inevitably been more fraught, not least because of their very different approaches to racing, as well as how by marc's own admission he's an asshole as a teammate. that difference in approaches is where the 'fearlessness' of marc comes in, and not in a good way for that relationship. who knows how it would have all turned out
just one more thing - marc is actually asked about the "he wants to humiliate them" quote in a presser, but unfortunately the question is formulated in a kinda messy way so marc doesn't really end up directly addressing the comments. though my guess is at least one person present understood exactly what casey was getting at:

Sorry for spamming your askbox but I have more to say about your excellent au.
I'd like to argue that God's strongest soldier in all of this is really Alex Marquez. Like Uccio he knows that all of this is INSANE and that Valentino and Marc are both freaks AND YET he supports Marc. He even agrees to go along with the insane "stalk vale at the race" plan!
I also have to wonder if Alex' image of Vale has changed. He races motorbikes with his brother so Im going to assume he idolizes vale and then suddenly it turns out that your idol not only pays to jerk off to your brother but also he's also a totally delulu freak.
Never ever apologize for sending me asks!!!
I haven’t touched on alex in this au nearly as much as I should… I have so many thoughts about him. A lot of alex’s relationship with marc is built on not just racing together as kids but also how marc’s crash (which I should probably write more about but for now basically exists only in my head) affected the both of them. Marc was cruising for a professional career and it all ended in one crash, and that’s not easy for a baby brother to cope with. Alex effectively chose to end his career (what might have become a career) because of marc’s crash, and he has his own trauma wrapped up in that. He watched it happen and he watched as marc struggled to cope with the loss of something that meant so much to him. Quitting racing to support his brother’s recovery was hard for alex, and now marc being healthy and happy doing something else (even if it’s porn!! who gives a shit!!!) contributes to alex being willing to go along with marc’s scheme.
Marc may be stalking their collective idol who incidentally also has seen marc naked, but in alex’s eyes that’s a major improvement from him being depressed, miserable, and going through incredibly hard and painful physical therapy just to gain his regular movement back.
As far as vale I sort of think alex is trying not to think about that 😭😭 he’s compartmentalizing like it’s his job. No matter what you do, do not think about your brother maybe eventually boning the old man whose posters you both had on your wall!!!
